there are premades, like mine, that still needs to practice and learn to play better, so these premades play free tourney.
there are also other premades that needs tickets, so they play free tourney.

what is the problem in forming a team for you? when i am alone and i play free tourney, 90% of the times my team lose is because players are newbie/noobs and don’t want to cooperate. but i still play alone some tourney to improve some build/my skill.

the resolution is oh so simple: nerf backstab damage by 20-30% and increase HS initiative. keep everything else the same, and the thief would be perfect.

then raise thief hp tp 18.5k with berserk berserk and armor accordingly…then rework every skill of d/* because then thief wont use dagger main anymore.

try to test changing traits, runes and weapons , playstyle and stuff like that. warriors are very good melee dps in tpvp, you just need to learn what you can do and what you can’t do with your class.

Yes. In my experience using BS (in PvE) as with all stealth skills, they have a no harm, no foul kind of execution. If you miss, you didn’t attack, so you don’t lose stealth. (AS is more strict, but now 2-4 more chances, albeit at 15% instead of 50%) so you can try again before you lose stealth, especially now with the AS fix.

if the thief was fixed so attacking air still reveal stealth, you have only 1 chance to hit with backstab, hence my question about mindfull thief.

right now yeah, if you miss you can try again

bunker build won’t just disappear because of some cap points change….you can try to put your idea, still will be bunkers. you can suggest if a cap point is disputed, it is blank…will be still bunkers. i think it is the build itself that needs to be nerfed

being a thief for me is not easy to say i am op. i can say i played sometimes mesmer, sometimes necro and i don’t feel thieves are op, just very strong.

about spvp: raid is the worst map ever created. full stop.

foefire is a lord rush because the advantage in points it gives is difficult to nullify because of the zerg.
khilo, well if treb kills a lot it helps team, even if the only purpose of the one shooting is farm points…

think about it: players who plays just for points, will be easier to beat in tournaments.

Xeph- It really is a l2p issue. If you’re going to build complete glass there’s no reason for the glassiest cannon in the game to 1shot you if you don’t read his movement and blind or stunbreak it.
And as far as Mesmer goes the only thing I see wrong here is their portal ability which makes them invaluable in a capture/hold the point type PvP.

And no, I don’t ONLY play thief. My first class which I even PvE’d to 80 was a Warrior, which I stopped playing because I felt there was such a low skill-ceiling for the class compared to Thief. When playing with 3x less armor and 2x less health, the game becomes alot more twitch-reaction based in which any minor mistake will cost you a death. And quite possibly throw the match.

Are you seriously telling one of the best players in the game to l2p? Go 1v1 his thief then and win with another profession rofl…

if proplayer right now means players who streams, well, if jumper, is THE jumper i know, he streams too…. so who is the best? i say, they are equally skilled, different popular as it seems…

WHEN anet will implement ladder the game will be balanced at all ranges , because everyone will belong to his own range of skill, so everyone will have the same chances to win a match.

furthermore, “pro players” stream, have their forum and share their builds/playstyle. instead of whining on forums, you could start watching them how they play their class and how they deal with other classes. it will worth the time spent

If a thief with this trait gets you low, OF COURSE they are going to have an advantage. It doesn’t matter what skill they use, it will seem OP.

Chill and cripple both effectively stop heartseeker gap closing. And if a thief gets on you with full initiative when you are low health, you will die! ANY burst with 100% health and cooldowns will be able to finish you just the same.

If you have ZERO awareness, YES the backstab combo will land, and your reaction time will be too slow to stop it. Part of being a skilled player is finding out your opponents builds during the game, and getting your reaction ready ahead of time. Use stability; be prepared to use a stunbreak when you see the thief go d/d; dodge if you have 0 other options.

so now we are put in the conversation the traits thief has?
wow just to prove thief is op you can go OT???

it is sad: a player showed the damage hs does to full hp. then wrote some numbers. skill itself is fine. then you can say:“blablabla u autoattack, then at 50% hp you spam” lol.. and what does the opponent do meanwhile? ig you are playing a class with no cc, no armor, no hp…what are you playing???

i black powder down and i can tank every melee hit i want. then i hs inside ahd i stealth, can BS someone and use #3 to chase blinding ranged opponents.

no i tested a lot s/d after pw nerf. it has no damage. it has only an evade and a daze. atm i don’t find it usefull for thief gamestyle or maybe on my gamestyle.
s/d imho needs a little rebalancing. after that i can consider it. right now, d/d and d/p are the best combinations for my gamestyle. (i never use assassin’s signet for the record.).
i accept your suggestions as i said. that’s all

How did you end up at that, from a Heartseeker thread? I have an elementalist, you just saw it hit a Golem. How about you make a Thief and go into a tourney game mashing number 2, and see where that gets you. Since you’re the one suggesting that is a viable way of playing the class.

Untill then, thanks for explaining quite clearly that you don’t run anything close to a squishy damage build, making your comparison of ‘19 moves versus 5’, meaningless. Join us next week when we complain that bunker guardians have to press signficantly more buttons before they have done as much damage as a Thief backstab opener.

Clearly the “effort” to damage ratio is just off there.

By your logic, less effort for more effectiveness is ok because its what you want. You’ve made that pretty clear. Everyone is wrong but you. Fantastic.

Enjoy using every excuse you have in your limited toolbox to continue justifying a
clearly broken profession.

The rest of us will go on knowing that your profession will be nerfed, and I hope your skills of persuasion help you in combat when the time comes.

ele bunkers are just as bad as guardians. bunker builds are ruining spvp.

try to remove bunkers’ boons.
try to put on them poison because poison lower the healing power.
try to daze/stun bunkers a couple of times.

ofc every thief and war skills have 1200 range.

You clearly only play theif. The biggest hit I have ever taken by an Ele is under 4k. Ranger a bit over. I don’t think I have ever hit anyone for much over 3k on an Ele and Ranger usually I run a condition spec so can’t comment on what a Long Bow may or may not do.

I have copped some 12 and 15k backstabs though. And a series of Pistol Whip + Quickness that added up to 16k+ many times.

I have shot people with a warrior for 7k with no points put into rifles at all. Warriors and theives seem like they are from a different game to the rest of us.

I am not sure what Anet sees as acceptable damage. Usually, its some % of the smallest health pool. Even taking 30% of someone’s health pool using 1 ability is a monster of a hit.

have you ever tried to immobilize a thief and shoot him from max range(if ranged clas)? or chill him? or cripple him? i beg you to try it, it is fun to see a spamming HS thief doing litterally no damage because the HS close the gap effect is affected by these conditions.
i play thief as main, i play mesmer as backup, i tested necro, ele and engi…except for mesmer i understand how much the player skill stands out the class he plays.

OP, if you really think the ele is the best tank with the best mobility and the best aoe damage. Let alone you imply they can do this at the same time.

Tank = (generally staff) water+arcane. 0 dps. Still not as good as guardians or engis.
AoE = (staff) Fire arcane. 0 survivability. Debatably not as good as Engis or same warrior specs.
Mobility = D/D Air
arcane. Still not as good as thief.

what if i say you you can be tanky/dps with sceptre/dagger ele?

No the decision is:
I use Heartseeker, then I use Heartseeker again, and if he is still alive, I use Heartseeker again…

You don’t actually have the slightest clue how the class works or how much damage that ability does, do you. Not a clue.

to support you with some numbers:
with 3.2k attack hs does about 650-690 damage above 50% hp. so assume 850-950damage critting.
you have about 20k hp?
how many hs to make you reach 50% hp? every hs costs 3 initiative. if traited you have 15 initiative. 5 hs put you to 50% hp? no. hf spamming hs against any half brained player.
oh and 5 hs means you have nothing to escape a fight. or if you can escape, opponent won because in this game hlding points make you win.

i can suggest you something OT:

- learn your class in every aspect he has (cond damage, power, tanky, support)
- learn every combo field and finisher he has and the combinations you can have
- learn every map (when to do bosses/how to steal them; to do guild lord or not to do guild lord; use treb or not, destroy theirs or not)
- learn to coordinate with teammates
- test in free tournament
- repeat this list for every teammate you have
- profit

to start you can use what Braxxus suggests.

and remember: player skill makes the difference, not the team build. (just won a tourney with 2 necro, 2 thief, 1 mesmer..and it was just to troll…lol)

i can say: why not? anet decides, we can theorycraft all the time we want.
but i still don’t like s/d. i would prefer something more damage than always put conditions. there should be some bonus damage for back strikes in the s/d dual itself. something you can upgrade with traits. right now s/d is only a control build, and thief really have s/p if he needs control.

Well its still the tankiest build for thief (s/d) . Think about it this way, cripple the melee target with dancing dagger and he won’t be able to make it to you, this means less damage you are taking. Daze on the stealth ability, means the target will not be using abilities for those 2 seconds ergo less damage you will take. The dual ability that evades during the entire duration, thats a lot of damage avoided and you are removing boons from the target that not only could be keeping it alive but giving it more damage as well, which is even more time to live for you. If the target has no boons you are getting vigor and regen, I don’t need to explain the benefit of this.
Flanking strike will still do damage and so will the sword #1 chain, which is surely enough for the trade off of getting a large boost to survivability.
In addition with this sword/pistol will be similar just giving less survivability but giving more control

if i want to play a tanky thief right now i prefer d/p. stil more control than s/d, more damage, after all the nerfs at damaging thief got, this is now the best weapon set thief can have.
and in this build you are a fool if you think you will win by just presing 2,2,2,2,2.
as i said, why not? but i don’t like s/d suggestions.

My problem is that A.Net specifically stated that the ability to span gaps like that is an exploit. A Mesmer using blink to do it…exploit, ..ele to do it with Ride the lightning, exploit, an engineer to do it (dunno what kill it was, but saw one do it in Forests of Nifehl…Thieves doing it with sb 5*….these are not supposed to ‘clear gaps’ but they can be used as blink abilities, or faster travel, but not to be used to span distances you can’t make on your own with a jump.

This would indeed be exploiting (or voluntarily bypassing set game mechanics).

Spanning gaps is not an exploit, and I would challenge you to show where Anet specifically stated that it is.

i really need to know this because o.w every thief in the game should be banned. there are a lot of known “teleport” in every stream you see. anet didn’t do anything about it. seems right so.
