AFAIK, sigils apply to the weapon using them. Stacked sigils only allow one stack to be in effect, you can’t have more than one. I’m not sure how the game handles on item switch effects, like AOE freeze and AOE bleed. That’s the only combination that can confer an advantage, I think, but the game may prioritize the main hand in this situation

I don’t like the game adjusting my level for me. When I want to open the map or gather with my level 80, I don’t want to have to fight lower levels. There’s no reward for it.

XP is boosted and there is a lower than normal chance to get items your level. Having this in is necessary to prevent griefing. Few people want to enter a dynamic event and have the level 80 come by and swat the mobs getting most of the credit for it with a gold reward, while the rest are considered not contributing to the encounter because they did next to no damage (maybe they’ll get bronze). This is partly a problem with how dynamic events reward participation, and needs to change to give us support players some love, but I don’t see a reasonable change that works with a level 80 swapping down mobs instantly. It’s not fun for others involved to not participate, even if they do get a reward for being there.

I’m not sure renewed focus is as bad as it seems. I think tome of courage is fantastic, but it isn’t without its counters. Any form of crowd control will interrupt unless you have stability. Light of Deliverance has along cast time so it cannot be relied upon to save you in situation where you are the target and rapidly losing health, or you are the target and the mob in question has knockbacks, launches, dazes, or stuns. Pacifism will help get off light of deliverance, but it isn’t without its own cast time and it only lasts for part of the cast time Light of Deliverance has.

On the other hand Renewed Focus will protect you from having new crowd control applied and would work in the difficult situations above. I think Renewed Focus isn’t worth it though if you aren’t investing in boosting your virtues (not a easy task since nearly every trait line can do this in someway). It also isn’t as helpful as tome of courage when it comes to saving others when you are not the target. Some question though on renewed focus:

- Does it renew the virtue of courage passive? So, for example, can I get four aegis blocks in quick succession: One from courage passive, one from courage active, one from courage passive after renewal, and one from it’s active after renewal?
- Is its duration increased like the other elite skills with the trait?

I think at the very least Renewed focus should grant stability, and allow for movement and action. Endure pain does this, and while warriors are without a number of healing abilities guardians have, I don’t think this would break the skill.

jagged horror trait discussion

Suggested fix: Lower degen and make it so a jagged horror is summoned on death of anything in X radius from necromancer.

Seeing as this seems to be meant to compliment a minion build, if a minion dies it will be replaced by a jagged horror.

Edit: In other words, make it more like : http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Jagged_Bones

Sanctuary: Death Star

Posted by: SirMoogie.9263

SirMoogie.9263

Not too practical. Sanctuary does not prevent longer range melee attacks from entering. It also doesn’t absorb AOE projectiles. It does not block player who have stability (it’s not a wall so much as a barrier that performs knockback when touched, with stability no knockback can occur).

It’s a great skill, but I think it should be expanded ever so slightly so that melee cannot strike occupants in the center of the bubble, unless they specifically have stability and enter the field. Anything more than this though and it would start trending into elite territory again.

While conditions are normally good on low vitality professions, like the guardian, if specced right (by spec I refer to the combination of gear, weapons, traits, and skill choices) a guardian has impressive condition removal. The wiki has the details of a guardian’s impressive array:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition#Skills_that_remove_conditions

As other posters pointed out the guardian’s full heal is on a high cooldown elite and has a long cast time. If you notice a guardian building up a spell with a tome open it’s probably coming. you can attempt an interrupt with fear.

As a general point you shouldn’t come out of every 1v1 encounter expecting victory, sometimes certain professions will have an easier time against other when specced a certain way.

Easier time..? the dude won the battle with like 80% health left. But yeah he must have used that elite skill…. too bad my elite skill plague just lets me survive longer basically in a situation like that, it does almost no damage so even if I had used plague on him it wouldn’t have mattered he still would have won by a mile.

Fully possible if he/she was healing and mitigating your damage. Health lost, if your report is accurate, doesn’t provide nearly enough information about the circumstances surrounding the victory. Did he/she actually lose 350% of his/her health, but have enough regen and healing to mitigate that much damage. Did you only lose 120% of your health, because you did not? Build matters and you haven’t provided enough details about the encounter for us to evaluate if it was indeed impossible for the average necromancer running some build to win as a profession against the average guardian playing this guardian’s build. You’re claiming lack of fairness, but we do not have enough information to actual determine that from your recollection. How many professions did you trounce that now think necromancers are unfair, just because you happen to be running a build that counters theirs?

It would be unfair if necromancers could never beat guardian’s running this specific build, but there isn’t enough information here to determine this. it would be unfair if this guardian’s build made him impervious to most avenues of attack, but I suspect more controlling/direct DPS build, or even lots of control on top of condition damage would crack him/her like an egg shell.

I’m not saying that the game is perfectly balanced and your case in impossible, just that you lack the information needed to evaluate it.

Romance

in Personal Story

Posted by: SirMoogie.9263

SirMoogie.9263

One thing that really pulled me into ME3 was the story brought out emotions in the player because of having relationships with NPCs in game. For example, when I played ME2 I romanced Tali and thought that was cool.
But in ME3 there is a situation where you have to choose between letting the AI achieve sentience and having the Quarian fleet destroy the Geth. In other words you had to choose between your friends Legion (a Geth) and Tali (a Quarian.) First time through (I didn’t read the forums or spoilers) I was thinking it would be ok to let the Geth have sentience, then negotiate peace between the Geth and Quarians. What happened was the Geth got their sentience and destroyed the Quarian fleet. Tali was so shattered that she committed suicide by jumping of the cliff in front of my player character. .

Wow that is troubling. I had the paragon option at that point that allowed the Geth to obtain sentience of Legion (but losing Legion’s personality in the process) which allowed for the Geth to work in harmony with the Quarians. So, much better. In some ways the ME paragon options do away with the tough choices, which has its pluses and minuses. In your shoes I don’t know what I would have done, probably side with the Geth as I’m not a proponent of carbon chauvinism.

Hammer Time!

The hammer may be adequate as a utility tool for situations. But for people who prefer it as a main weapon just because they like hammers instead of blades, the hammer is horrible to use.

It’s good, but it’s horrible? I take it you mean it’s horrible at what you would like it to do. Unfortunately, the way the game is set up is to have certain weapons capable of doing certain tasks (including being jack of ll trades). This fits in nicely with the concept of choosing what role you want to play. To choose your role you pick your traits, your gear, your utilities, and your weapon. It isn’t just like this with the guardian, but every class. Some weapons are just more suited for the control role, some condition damage, some direct damage, and some support. The hammer happens to be the go to weapon for control (immobilize, ward, and knockback give it three control skills, no other weapon on the guardian allows for this). I suppose they could heavily redo the game design and make no weapon suitable for any role, and then have your traits decide what your weapons do, but that’s probably not the changes they had in mind for patches.

I would not mind the hammer being a more lethal DPS weapon if specced into the Zeal line, but not at a cost to its control options.

Hammer Time!

I hope that they don’t change it too much. I like to play a defender and the hammer fits in nicely with the amount of control it provides. If it is to get a gap closer it should not be at the expense of of losing it’s immobilize, which functions as a gap closer and protection for your allies.

Well you did call them out and directly and insult them. If your in game behavior is anything like your forum posting, then yes you got suspended for directly insulting people. There is a difference between saying “This $%^& dynamic event is too hard”, and “You guys $%^& suck at this dynamic event”. One is comment on the frustrating situation the other is venting your frustration on others. The former is acceptable to Arena Net when not abused, the latter is not. There are also other comments that regardless of target will likely get you a suspension (such as racial, sexist, or homophobic slurs) This isn’t League of Legends, we don’t insult other players here or call them “sodding idiots” regardless of skill. We help them play better. I don’t know the circumstances of your suspension, but you can open a support ticket to find out until they improve their suspension notifications, something they are working on.

1) I’ve had the same Arenanet account since Guild Wars 1 and I’ve never changed the password. Unless these hackers went back in time and figured out what i used almost a decade ago I don’t see how that’s possible.

That your Guild Wars 1 account was not targeted for exploitation does not entail the newly released and highly popular Guild Wars 2 won’t be. It’s still an avenue to pursue. Open a ticket, it can’t harm you.

2) I was like level 20something with all of about 12 silver on me. Also basically impossible.

The 21 karma weapon exploit could be done early on in level as you only needed a little karma to do it. That’s what made it an exploit.

In the real world most of the time isolated events, meaning short outbursts of profanity and such will not get you banned or kicked out of any restaraunt or any other public place as long as the short outburst does not escalate into something worse. Yet this is what’s happening in game. I would understand if some moron was repeatedly saying offensive things over and over again, but most of these bans don’t have to do with this, it’s the short outbursts. Seriously get a life, don’t act like you have never cussed, or said anything offensive before. Everyone has, who are you to judge someone else?

And Arena Net has said they do not intend suspend for short outbursts of frustration. Now there are probably cases where they screwed up, but I haven’t seen any presented. On Reddit the vast majority were not outbursts of frustration at something, but targeted attacks against players or just simply bigotry (accidental or otherwise) on display. The one issue in this thread that seem overboard is the fleshlight joke, if that is the case. I think it deserves some action as young teens can play the game and may have parents not ready to talk about fleshlights or having their kids look it up.

I have an issue with the unclear definition of botting, as described here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Rules-of-Conduct-related-So-I-wrote-a-hotkey-macro/16162

That is a good question about “botting”, actually macros, and would be interesting to see if someone defined a nostromo looping macro that was only active while being pressed if that would be considered “botting”. My guess is no, but it might depend on circumstances. AFAIK, there is no way for them to detect that you are playing a nostromo macro. They may be able to detect nostromo software drivers, but not the specific macro being used. Thus, it would have to come down to in game behavior to decide the issue. Is your toon sitting in a dynamic event “hot spot” repeatedly using a skill and looting. Then yes, that sounds like an abusive use of nostromo macros.

Yes, I actually read the terms of service, from top to bottom. In doing so, I did come across some points that seemed overly vague to me.

I have an suggestion. I have maneged to play a game, where people had an ability to custom filter. That way, every player could write words that appeared to him/her offensive. This could help solve the problem with subjective offence.

While this would work at masking the problem, I’m not of the opinion that we should have people using racial, homophobic, sexist, or elitist terms to begin with. Why should women, gay people, people of differing racial groups, or casual gamers have to feel shunned by the community when it should be those that would make the community seem unwelcoming to these groups that should be dumped to the curb?

I think there is a simple concept people should embrace on the internet in general. The internet is a public space. Treat it like you would going to the movies or a restaurant. If you wouldn’t scream racial, homophobic, or sexist slurs in those places, don’t do it in map chat. If you would do those things, then live with the consequences of being uncivil.

Arena Net’s existing policy is consistent with their goals for community building:

http://www.arena.net/blog/building-community

From what I’ve seen of those banned for language use on Reddit, I’m happy with how they are approaching it.

From the reddit thread it appears they are looking on informing people in a better way on the reasons for the suspensions. I agree that it doesn’t help you learn the rules of the community if you don’t know why you were suspended, so a quote of the offence would help you fight it, if it was truly an unwarranted suspension; or change your behavior, if it was warranted. In the meantime you could either try getting the reason for your suspension from reddit or these forums by posting your character name(s). Just don’t do so in a thread calling out Arena Net staff, as that is against the rules… you read them right?

But is it 95% unambiguous? That it isn’t perfectly unambiguous doesn’t mean it isn’t a good warning. What parts do you find unclear? It would help your case more if you presented those concepts in the document you can’t understand, rather than just saying it isn’t 100% clear. Sometimes good enough is good enough.

During the beta weekends I made several trips to see how my friend Bleepdoop was doing on his emissary mission and was dismayed each time to see that he could not overcome the dreaded underwater cavern. Every time he was stuck to some surface of that cavern making for easy prey for the stinging jellyfish. I always reluctantly resurrected him knowing all too well that while he may aid me in combat with the poisonous sea fish, he would always return to the nearby cavern walls stuck, never to deliver his diplomatic message to the kodan. I wondered what was in that message that was so unimportant that sticking to the cavern wall was of higher priority? I also thought to myself surely at release I will get to see the culmination of this envoy’s quest. However, it was not to be.

Please help Bleepdoop learn to swim through caverns!
