Hello Bradekus, you’ll be relieved to hear… my guild has everything you can wish for.
I’m not going to copy and paste a forum message as the people above me did, but I’ll write out why you should join in with us. The Old Boys are casual/semi-hardcore PvX. We do everything the game offers, WvW, SPvP, Fractals, Dungeons & Guild Missions (challenge is being unlocked right now).

Lately our guild has been expanding a lot, and we want to continue to do this, while at the same time keeping the family feeling in the guild. Our guild chat is rarely silent, and if it is, that’s because we’re running teams in dungeons or WvW. We use Teamspeak 3 as a voice chat, but you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.

Most of our members are very nice people, that like to help others with advice or help. We don’t rage, we don’t flame, we don’t stress and most of all, we don’t insult.
Our policy is one of social excellence and a show of maturity.

Well it all depends on what you want to do AND what you are good in.

I see plenty of players that invest everything in pure power/prec/crit and don’t care what happens to their mates cause they have no mates. I often do WvW runs with players in my guild and the new ones are always the ones with self-sustaining builds but without any real importance. If you want to be succesful, be a team player: that is support your fellows.

Now, I run a support build, but it is recommended you have a team for that, cause you only get any profit out of it by helping others. Guardian is the perfect class for this so that’s why I bring this up.

Basically the purpose of this is to have high tanking values and high healing. I run full cleric’s armour + sapphire orbs and sapphire jewelry + orbs. Weapons have soldiers: staff and hammer.

Why these weapons? It’s a support build and these are the best support weapons:
Staff:
n°2 skill has a area heal of 2k, just double tap it to detonate it, healing yourself and people around you.
n°3 skill has the swiftness buff, which is very useful in wvw
n°4 skill is a channel skill with a final aoe heal: every pulse of the skill (there are about 5) will heal you for 1k and the final will aoe heal for 2,5k.
n°5 skill is good for stopping zergs (a not crossable line), this often requires you to be the last man, because you want the zerg to attack you and not your dps mates. You can outheal and block them.

Hammer
n°2: combo finisher, when paired with a water field gives a 1k+ heal again
n°3: a nice immobilize
n°4: throw back an enemy that wants to stomp your ally
n°5: a ring that can’t be crossed: again stop zergs and protect allies

Heal: any, but not the signet

Utilities: free choice, but shouts preferred (hold the line, stand your ground, save yourselves) and the elite should be the tome of courage (30K+ aoe heal)

Believe me I’ve tried. I hit content burnout at level forty with a ranger, and twenty-five with a thief. An entirely separate thread could be made on this issue, but the simple fact is that, at least to me, the leveling content in this game just isn’t fun after the first time though.

Clearly that idea of the zones feeling different and still being exciting each time you go through them because of dynamic events didn’t exactly work out as intended.

Sorry mate, but that makes me feel you have 0 patience. I have leveled myself 6 level 80s, even 2 of the same class. Yes, it was boring rerolling all the content, and yes I’m happy now I’m finished with them, but really… you shouldn’t be complaining.
If you can’t even bring yourself to level 1 alt, then you’re downright lame.

Sprinting is technically the same thing as swiftness or a skill like Bull’s charge/Ride the Lightning/…

Is it possible to add a feature so we can see when a member was last online. I mean, it’s so hard to organize a guild right now if there are over 400 members in it and you want to keep it active and use ranks.

This has been suggested months on end and still hasn’t been added. This is indeed a feature all the guild managers out here have need of very badly.

Come on Anet, do us a favor.

The Old Boys can offer you this:

- PvX: we play all aspects of the game (also pvp and wvw, but no zerging)
- Casual: we play mainly for fun, no rush, no farm
- Active: 60+ active players, 30+ online at evening
- Represent: 100% unless for private bank uses

- Guild missions: yeah (3, nearly 4)

I fear the “no wvw” aspect of your request will make it hard to find any guild at all. PvE on itself lacks enough content except maybe dungeons. My guild will do fractals, but I fear you won’t find enough players doing it to have a group all day long. I think your main option will be to join a “fractals” guild, if those exist.

Looking for more dedicated players! We’re especially looking for people who like to take on recruiting duty and want to prove their worth so they can possibly become one of the leading staff. Everyone can climb the ranks with the needed dedication to our guild and activity!

Precursor drop rate and achievability make the legendary status laughable and ridiculous. I’m not going to be part of such bull kitten.

Me no want AM and RS, they’re not fun to fight at all. Please tell me we’re staying with FSP, one of the most fair opponents we’ve had.

I like the idea and I’m sure my guild would participate in this. Seems a lot of fun.

Hello there, I can’t spell your name, but it looks awesome.. now that has been said….
The Old Boys will gladly welcome you. We’re a crazy bunch of people on Gandara (30-50 online daily) and we have 3 of the guild missions unlocked at the moment. We’ll start unlocking guild challenge tomorrow, and guild rush will follow swiftly. Most of our members are very active and engaged and we have TS3 aswell (not obligatory).

I do hope you don’t want to join for the guild missions only? Close to all the members we have are representing us 100%, because we want to maintain a group of people who all appreciate eachother. If you’re interested, let us know something (link in signature)!

I’m totally against the idea of a continuing hunt for better armour while even better armour is coming out and I refuse to get myself ascended armour. I have geared all my characters up with exotic quality material and kitten anet if they want to let players do all their work over.

No I don’t want new higher stat armour, no I don’t want new currencies, no I don’t want to be forced to play game content that I don’t like (e.g. dailies).

Fractals have been awesome so far. Very smooth runs.

Still looking for more dedicated members and people who want to help make The Old Boys stronger than ever. We’re especially looking for people who like to do activities together with other guild members and who are willing to help others and be active on both forums and in-game. Thanks!

Hey Arrow, I think my guild is what you’re looking for. We don’t have a huge mass of players (about 60 active weekly), but we have a ton of awesome very active players and our officer squad is called Team Handsome, what more could you possibly wish?

Now for real: we’re a PvX guild where everyone does what he wants and where we try to stimulate members to play together. What is a guild if nobody ever does anything with his mates? Everyone is considered equal (everyone can become leading staff if they show their qualities) and the officers are leading of course, but they don’t stand above the crowd (I often get poked by various members ).
If you want to be part of a crazy bunch and have fun with us, help us build this guild and maybe become one of Team Handsome, you’re free to join in!

First off, what timezone do you play on? Second, my guild isn’t spvp only, but we have a few chaps jumping into spvp time and again. The guild itself is PvX, so we do anything from dungeons, guild missions, world vs. world and spvp. Succesfully completed both the Bounty and the Rush and we did a teamspeak WvW run afterward with a few people who were still up for it. We are now 5 guild merits and 5k influence removed from the Guild Challenge (we will start building it sunday).

Nice thread. I just started playing ranger after leaving it for months and playing all other classes first and I really hope it’s worth it.

Using Cloak and Dagger is really difficult, okay?

It is, and backstab all the more.

As the others here say it all depends on what you’re running.
I have 5 80s (thief, warrior, ele, guardian and engineer) and a low-level ranger and mesmer.

Thief is epic in small groups, especially when we’re running with the guild. I drop stealth, everyone goes in, then we slip into a zerg and aoe all around. 2 minutes later there’s no zerg.

Elementalist is crazy AoE on staff, hitting 4k per fireball that rains down on the enemy. Staff elementalist works best when you’re running with a zerg or holding a position.
D/D ele works best for roaming, with a nice sustainable healing and enormous mobility.

Engineer is pretty much dependable upon grenades: works good for defending fortifications, and works good for aoeing walls.

Warrior: works good if you’re running with a small team. Probably not bad in zergs either, but he dies pretty fast if you’re on berserk.

Guardian is master support. In zerg I use staff/scepter-focus. In roaming I use greatsword/staff. Works great in any mode.

Mesmer: perfect deception, great in teams for portal and very nice on sword/torch.

Ranger: sniper, arrow spam.

Okay well maybe that’s a little unfair. Just too bad that I went in MS BL just to see a zerg of 50 man run down 1 guy alone near my spawn. I really wish you’d all stop zerging, makes for such a great gaming experience if you don’t (trust me, I nearly never run with a zerg).
