tPvP power for necro is just crap. The traits don’t really synergize well with the build and the amount of time it takes to put out the damage to kill another player specced and traited to do the same thing you do, will have done it 3 times over. Sure necros have more durability and the ability to apply massive amounts of vuln. The problem is, even with 2600 toughness 21k hp a thief still eats through it like it is nothing, a mesmer can just outlast you, a guardian will just sit there and have a cup of tea going lmao and /dance while you do next to no damage to him, a warrior will just charge you with a hammer knock you on yourkittenand then either use dual axes or gs to melt your hp away realitively quickly. A ranger will auto attack bleed stack you with shortbow or longbow knock you onto yourkittenimmob you use rapid fire then auto attack from max range. Power build for necro is just horrid without a zerg situation, and even in a zerg situation, you won’t be focused with that build because compared to other classes doing the same thing, you are just a minor annoyance.

Necromancer for PVE?

Get a dagger and a focus or warhorn
Get a build that consists of 30 points in Blood magic,20 points in death, and 20 in spite , play a build with Wells skills and your necro is going to be the 2nd best tank in the game.
No kitting, just stand there and be like a wall of bricks healing all the way and having multiple protection abilities while you aoe your enemies down to 0.

I love being able to do that, also use a staff for swap just to get even more damage and regen from the 2. Mobility means nothing when your only true reliable mobility is dodge, which as a necro you get 2 of. Standing in your wells with tons of healing and toughness and a bit of power you can just stand still drop your aoes use the 2 on dagger (may not be much but it helps) and just eat whatever beating they dish out. Not to mention, plague form blinds and poisons them all constantly for 20 seconds, almost doubles your hp pool and at level 80 gives about 2k toughness, and grants stability for the duration. With the spec I have crap gear because I decided to have fun in PvP instead of grind for mats or grind for gold to pay for mats to level a profession, I was tanking 5 undead on the last airship in the level 80 instance. Broke or not, necros have this amazing ability to survive and annoy the hell out of enemies, not to mention 15 sec upkeep on dark combo area and 10 sec upkeep on light combo area

For a power build golem may be best elite, but I really enjoy trolling with the #2 on plague for 20 seconds, mobs or players blind is just amazing. Had a PW spam theif come to kill me, he put haste on to do so, I eventually lost that encounter however his pw build yeah, 44 hits from pw, 10k damage total from it. I just loled when i looked at that.

ok here’s what i noticed. most monsters don’t come in packs so what I do I go near them and let them do first strike or let the minions do first strike. most of the time they attack the minions or the minions attack the monster. Once they have done so, cast any skill and the rest of the minions will attack as well. I tried it on many area on the map and never failed.

Wait till you get to the level 65+ zones, you will be hard pressed to be fighting anything less than 3 mobs at a time lol

I would consider that a bug on the necro then, considering my thiefs bonus showed, and went up more when i used 2 +10 bleed duration sigils on weapons.

While yes having so more options would be nice, or having this all the stats on one amulet split over several items so you can actually mix up stuff instead of well, base an entire build off one item, if your necro is squishy as a condi you are probably doing something wrong. Saying that plus heal for necros is a flat out lie, that is actually my main stat followed by toughness followed by vit. Reason being, well spec with siphon life on evey tick gives me almost 300 per sec for 15 sec with properly timed wells. The healing well has an initial heal of upwards to 9k with 7k ticking over the course of the next 10 seconds while standing in it. Mark of blood regen, siphon life from dagger MH, and the 4 skill from focus offhand regen all benefit from plus healing. Not to mention it also works with the trait that heals allies while channeling the #4 in death shroud.

Well considering you have spoilers in here and well this is kind of a flaw all it’s own. Their are people that like the whole personal story, but, the whole personal story kind of sucks considering the end of your personal story is in the level 80 game dungeon, which sucks for anyone that hasn’t done the previous dungeon stories, because the dungeon stories are all linked, and your personal story isn’t really linked to the dungeons. So yeah there’s that to.


The Trahearne show is great, funny he isn’t even that for the final fight against the dragon though, you fight along side your 4 other party members and divinity’s edge.

In a team, the only satisfaction you get is about how good you work as a team and move on the map. There is really little personal satisfaction of doing something well.

Only thing that is remotely keeping me even a little interested in this game atm is the 1on1 situations you get every now and then.

Roll a class and be that person on your team that stays back and defends the close point. You end up in 1v1,1v2,1v3 situations all the time, surviving in those situations long enough for help to arrive = satisfaction.

So your saying you can do half the damage, at least, of any other class? Nice try, in any given situation where both people know what they are doing, you won’t do even a third of damage of any other class. Support? Hmm… necros provide no buffs of any kind past 3 seconds of protection for every well… marvelous. Healing? Without full healing gear your blood well isn’t even better then a simple regen from staff. Again a guardian/engenier/ranger/warrior/elementalist blows you out of your shoes in buffs/healing/cc/debuffing. Thiefs don’t do much in terms of support but oh well.
And the list at times seems indefinite. Next time you make grand claims provide some proof.
Go on… spec for full power with DS and realize that warrior does more damage with auto attacks then you with 100% ds pool and full power/might spec.
Oh and we are the only class with no cobos…. we got 1 underwater finisher >_> extremely unreliable at that too. We got 1 mark which needs to be triggered and a base attack of staff with 20% chance…. Oh yes almost forgot we do have bone minions explosion and flesh wyrm…lol. GL getting finisher from those. Now ever checked how many finishers warriors have? No? Do it…
Also our fields are poison from staff/poison from one of the almost completely useless utility. 4 darkness from wells 1 light again from well. And spectral wall… the completely useless utility. And they really don’t provide us with anything in terms of buffs. Also you can’t trigger them w/o enemies unless you get minions… but then you sarifice all your utility slots for aoe blind on nothing?

Our lack of combos does suck however, in a PvE environment, Light and Dark combo fields are what most people like having. Ground targeted wells, our 4 combo always hits with them so we can provide, area retaliation, area blind, or are weakness depending on which field we utilize. No we may not have the most amazing party buffing capabilities, but we can convert conditions on our party into boons, at the same time as providing that dark combo field. We can pop plague form and spam 2, if 20 seconds of mobs being basically useless 25 if you use the well that blinds, you are in akitten party. Not to mention, if you spec down in full the +vit +heal tree, all of your wells heal you, while providing you a nice health buffer, add to that that most +heal gear also has either + toughness or +vit you can be the healer, and the tank, at the same time, all while keeping mobs up with the conditions we apply easier than other classes, blind, weakness, chill, vulnerability. The Necro stems not from dishing out massive amounts of damage, but massive amounts of hampering to the enemy, which is far from useless, just unpopular.

They are getting bashed because they are broke, not because people don’t like them. There are a ton of traits/effects in those trees that just flat out don’t work, don’t work as intended, or work somewhere in between not doing anything and doing what it says it does.

Last I checked Well of Corruption converts 1 Boon every second for 5 seconds. So not so great against one Gaurdian with a million of them up. ^^

Tooltip: Target area pulses, converting boons on foes into conditions, says nothing about converting 1 at a time, and even if it is I never had a problem taking on guardians using it. Unless they come charging at me with a hammer, and then summon a spirit hammer, but that is more of a case of i can’t kitten move when i’m being knocked down thrown 500 ft away from where i was previously faceplanted and then have the same effect repeated by whichever one didn’t just previously do it to me lol.

Also that kind of relocation would do nothing to fix core issues with class. Class lacks damage, any distinct role, it serves next to no function as support class due to simple fact you bring barely any noticable healing and no buffs at all. Past specing for 3 sec protection on wells. And so on….. no reason to even list at this point. Its all been said over and over again.

If you play support and you know, actually get +healing as a stat, that 10 sec well of blood heals for 7k over 10 secs, on top of the regen from staff 2/focus 4 also get affected by it. WEll that converts conditions on allies into boons and boons on enemies into conditions or blinds or that stacks up 10 vulnerability and the fact that any combination of the 3 wells that aren’t heals give 15 secs of dark combo field and the 10 sec heal one is a light combo field and you have yourself an amazing support, also, level 80 in horrible gear not even statted properly to support or tank, i was tanking 5 of the undead on the final airship in the level 80 instance. 20 sec blind from plague form with a practically doubled hp pool and added 2k toughness is amazing as well.

You can also target a Guardian that is buffed up like the is no tomorrow, Cast Corrupt Boon and then Epidemic and see the lil numbers fly.

and then you see that corrupt boon did absolutly nothing 9/10 times, and you cry yourself to sleep

To be fair after playing a Warrior and Thief underwater Necromancer is A LOT BETTER than them.

I had the same issue, turns out, undead like to walk through the walls instead of up the staircase out of the water, and go underground. Took some time and camera fidgeting to find the bugged mob that was underground but target it and if you have any use a ground aoe and it will come running up through that ground like nobody’s business to come and try to kill you.

The part with the ship bugged out when I did it as well, it turns out there is occasionally, and I only know this due to camera clipping and names showing up through walls, that a mob will end up underneath the ground. I managed to use an ability and hit him and he came out of the ground got swarmed by npcs and killed and then the mission progressed without a hitch. If you destroy the ghost ship and quest doesn’t continue, look underground for a bugged undead.

I agree that mission was kind of a pain, I feel I did more work in my downed state than in the golem (actually i’m pretty sure every kill i got in that fight was while being in downed state). The only thing remotely even let me stay alive was that the majority of the NPCs went and stupidly attacked Mr. Sparkles who seems to have a ridiculous amount of health and health regen at that point in time.

Sorry to say this to all of you but there is not one thing in this game that is not an improvement from Guild Wars. Enjoy what you have been given for goodness sake. Nothing is perfect however the team at Anet have nearly done that. You are experiencing their work their hearts and souls and creativity went into this. You all are just criticizing and nitpicking until they feel so disheartened they change things that were fine. So please stop. Anet the worlds you have created both in GW2 and Gw1 have enchanted me since I was 12 I now am an adult and I can say that I applaud you all for your skill and artistry. Thank You!

Never played guild wars 1. I find in this game my personal story is only personal up until I met a certain someone, then it felt just like playing oblivion. Then the epic final boss of the game and end of the story, after “slaying” him, all the regular guards or citizens just speak to me like I’m so ordinary nobody citizen that did nothing. Feels great.

I just completed it as a L26 thief, but I have a build geared towards story, so take that with a grain of salt.

Seriously where is the fun in being able to play all these different traits and weapons, and play a class how I enjoy it as opposed to it doesn’t matter if you find this way of playstyle horribly boring, it is the ONLY way to get the job done without having to get from other players or guildmates in what is supposed to be a personal story.

I find alot of the random diaglogue to be entertaining, I also find that yeah I was hitching-hiking onto someone elses story. Needless to say among other things the personal story was supposed to be “completely soloable” which turns out to be rubbish consider the most important part of the story, the ending, is set in a dungeon. Not to mention, unless you do story mode of all of the other dungeons at least 1 time you miss out on the entirety of the story that is the story you are hitch hiking on.

The Fort Trinity mission was no problem for me also, just control your AEs, pull the mobs in as small a pack as you can get, and never get in front of the NPCs.

Control your AEs is a fine thing to say, tell that to a necro who has only a very few actual non auto attack skills to choose from that aren’t AoE. I did fine through everything going dagger/dagger spec with wells for the survivability, but in the level 50+ missions of story, I was hard pressed to do anything other than go minion master and let the buggy ai of minions fight the constant mob packs that attacked while I mostly just stood and watched because most of the necro abilities are AoE and made for group combat by hampering enemies and making it easier for allies to kill them. Which kind of sucks considering as most people have stated, the allies you get die to easily and have crap damage output compared to the damage input and can’t hold aggro of a mob for anything.

And the difference between the tooltip and effect are? Well affect thw whole team thus do all affects chained to them.

Point is because the tooltip does not remotely lead people to believe this and makes people think it is just another useless trait. It should not say “when cast” that makes it seems like it is just a buff that should be applied to you. It would be fine if it just said, Wells apply protection for 3 seconds.

Might gets converted to weakness, it only stacks once but 22 stacks of might = 22 seconds of 33% reduced damage, imo not useless. Regeneration converts to bleed.

I hate underwater combat on my necro. It iskitten and everything is AoE based so most of the time instead of fighting the 1 mob I want to, i hit the 3+ neutral mobs just because I hit a button that isn’t 1. Except with the spear, then even 1 AoEs on the last hit. Not to mention I play support/well spec, so I get completely Fed over underwater since not a single of my 4 wells gets replaced with anything useful. I understands wells are a ground target that hits anything standing above them, why not make it a bubble shape underwater that hits anything inside of them instead of rendering me just about useless cause the rest of utils are borked because of my spec. Also, the whole use one class elite underwater kind of sucks, it’s like that with most professions, I have no problem with the elite they give though as with my spec it’s the elite I use anyways. Doubled health and at level 80 about a 2k+ to toughness is rather useful.

A good necro tank is just as viable as a good guardian/engi tank. I play m necro tanky, and I always get told by enemies at the end of games that I’m hard as crap to kill. Necros have freedom, just less of it due to alot of the freedom being jacked because of bugged traits. Also, a power build necro will never be as good as a power build of any other class, and it is because 90% of our abilities with any weapon stacks some kind of condition on the enemy, with an exception of axe, but the damage that does and how annoying it can be to land that damage with no way of being able to stop the enemy from just casually walking away from it, is next to useless.

Don’t even have to be condi specced, I do it well enough as a well necro with + healing that makes my non healing wells heal me for 260 a tick my healing well tick for 700 and an initial heal of 8k, combine that with the 4 skill on the staff for retaliation, i just let the thief kill himself while trying to assault me, and when all else fails, plague form blind i can tank 3-4 players the entire duration of the form lol

as a well specced necro with plague form as elite i had a thief try to pw spam me to death, he succeeded eventually, and by eventually i mean his pw spam eventually had a total amount of hits on me of 44 and only a 10k damage total from it in comparison to the number of times he used it. Shame my team didn’t come to help out at the point till after I was dead and the thief capped it.

They can be a good matchup if the specs of both are right, but the mesmer has it easy with as many ways to stay out of a thiefs melee range unless the mesmer doesn’t see the first strike coming at all, not to mention the aoe fields it can put down. Ground fields are a thiefs worst nightmare when the person you are trying to kill constantly stands in them.

Apologies if the heartseeker comment was strange in any sort of way. It was just a random suggestion since thieves have been getting the nerfbat at the moment.

They didn’t get any sort of nerfbat, they got one skill reworked, a unique on to them that scaled damage with the amount of heath the target on the receiving end had which was supposed to increase in damage as health went down. The problem was the damage between the 100% start and 33% max damage was only like a 150 damage total difference, so it could be spammed reguardless of health. The damage scale and % life it scales to, makes it the viable execution move it was made to be, also it still has gap closing capabilities.

Immob can be annoying but the only ones that last any lengthy time are the ones caused by utility spells, meaning if you break out of their long immob with yours, their sufficient immob on you is rendered useless until it’s back off cd as well.

Please don’t offer bads the ability to spam an exectution move that was designed to be used when an enemy is low hp as a finisher from 100% again and think they are good because they can. Yes it is a little odd that immob is counted as a condi and not a cc, and yes quickness can cause ruthless burst on classes that run it. However, most quickness builds are also put on glass cannons, so if you time your dodge/condi remover,you can punish them while everything of theirs is on CD.

Don’t bring up “casual/hardcore” when it comes to time. It’s a mindset. Just like a large majority of people playing here (I assume) I work 50-70 hours a week, I raise a family, I deal with RL responsibilities just like the next guy. From a “time” standpoint I am casual as hell. The difference is how you spend the time you do have. SPvP is a zergy mess. It’s team deathmatch. It’s exactly the same as in every FPS I’ve ever played outside clanmatches. Go in, zerg around, lul, leave. There won’t be balance there. Just like WvW. It won’t be balanced. It’s all about the zerg and aoe.

The game is (as I understand it) meant to attempt e-sport viability. Because of this the balance is done at the top-end for competitive play. Most every “issue” that’s been presented on the forums (as with every other MMO style game forum when it comes to PvP) is rantish from a viewpoint that is everywhere but actual competitive play.

TLDR: Hotjoin is TDM in MMO format. Adjust your build/tactics/class for the zerg/aoe. Balance lies in competitive play. Casual/Hardcore is mindset, regardless of time.

I think your missing the point entirely here, yes thats what the game is in the 8v8 format and that is how it will stay unless the point system is changed. The point here is being auto balanced to the losing side when there is literally only like 4-5 secs before the match ends and will be rebalanced for the next game anyways. I don’t understand why all the competitive people come in here acting all smart and know what there talking about and being like, oh it’s perfectly fine for the people that don’t want to play competitively to be handed a loss. A rework in the time allotted for autobalance to take place in the sPvP 8v8 has absolutely no affect on what happens in tPvP in any way shape or form. There is no reason to hate on the casuals who just want to run around in the giant zergfest, when the point in this topic will not remotely affect your competitive play.

It’s annoying when it happens in tPvP but really that’s kind of the chance you take by playing tourney’s with puggers instead of your team.

Casuals care, you know, the ones who don’t have enough time to spend to get good enough to play competitively in tPvP, but still enjoy versing other players as to repeating the same dungeons to grind for tokens for armor that is really only good when you use it in the dungeon you just got done grinding it from. Those people care about hotjoin, and considering this is only one of numerous threads that discuss the not penalizing leavers as much as the people that get autobalanced to another team threads that are out there, I would say quite a few. Sure the hardcore PvPers do tourneys to get rep, with a good team it’s more efficient that hotjoin anyways, and they don’t really care about what happens with them, ergo all you guys on the forums telling casual players oh well it sucks to be you but since you don’t have the time to put into becoming a hardcore PvP sorry about your loss if you get screwed over by auto balancing constantly.

You are also talking about the sPvP 8v8 environment where people just prefer running whatever class can steamroll the enemies faster to give themselves more kills while zerging around the map like a bunch of mindless zombies. Engineers are popular in tPvP where bunkering a point is useful, and their are skilled Ele players in tPvP matches I;ve been in that can wreck havoc just as quick as a thief if given the chance. The classes are not popular in 8v8 because, 8v8 is a mindless zergfest and skill is unimportant in them. The only thing currently important in them is, get as many kills on the map as you can wherever you can because a kill is worth 15 points everywhere except a neutral capture point.

Okay, so there are two problems here:

  1. You lose out on 15 points
  2. The game needs to be balanced because one team has more members than the other

My apologies, but I’d rather see #2 fixed and a balanced game commence than #1 remedied. That’s the selfless compromise, life isn’t always fair.

Right because 4 skirmish or defense or offense kills adds up to 15. Thats actually 60 points gone and the up to 30-60 point win bonus if you have booster that makes for a total of 90-120. It is also a self kick in the face when you work hard on the winning team to get a lead like that and then 8-10 points from victory get team swapped, and don’t say well oh you can come back from that, no, you can’t not from a massive amount like that and the game pretty much swapping you and loading you in just in time to hear you lost the match. It’s a self kick to pride and discourages new players from wanting to continue when they get autobalanced to a losing team. And yes, it is entirely important to balance out teams when the game is going to end in 5 seconds, and be rebalanced for the next round anyways.

Basically don’t engage a mesmer without a team where the stacks of confusion will be more spread out otherwise you will just kill yourself trying to do anything because confusion hurts yourself on everything including auto attack. Pretty broke concept there that the only way you can defend yourself from a CD based game is do nothing but use the move buttons or kill yourself.

With the exception that I’m pretty sure you cannot entirely clear trait tree’s, I’m pretty sure those are locked while in the arenas, so you are still limited to which ones you can use in that reguard. Also, the enemy is not the only one that can change chars at the start of the tourney, and you get 5 mins to decide whether or not the current class/spec your on is going to be the most beneficial for the situation.

The problem is really the damage output from the sharks, 1 or 2 hitting at a time isn’t bad but get 4 aggroed onto you and that 4 sharks hitting for 1k critting for 2k and stacking bleeds. Not to mention Underwater weapon sets and utilities completely bork over some class build. My well specced necro, so much fun to go underwater and pick placeholder icons in my util slots, save for plague which i use wherever, but don’t really touch the other buttons aside from 1-5 except maybe 6 because most heal skills have a realatively short cd anyways.

It doesn’t honestly change much between the two. It’s not like your PvP gear is going to be different from what people see with their PvE gear, they are in fact, all the same skins. I really don’t see what the problem is either way, it’s not really “showing off” anything considering the PvErs have see the PvE equivalent skin of the PvP skin, which they are all trade offs. The dry bones PvP light armor set = karma bought light armor from level 15-35 zones from what i read on one of the forums or wikis.

I think he meant loses to them in terms of outright tankiness, which necros do in terms of raw mitigation skill. A good necro can however, outlast a defensive war/guardian if played properly, (moreso if increased mark size and makes them unblockable actually made them unblockable, and increased the size of all the marks and not just the mark of 1 sec step back plox fear). Balance is intended for the meta game, and since they want this game to go e-sport, meta is balanced around 5v5 tourneys and 5 man dungeon teams currently. 8v8 sPvP is nothing but a zergfest of cookie cutters with the occasional other class in the mix up out to farm easy glory and rank points because it’s easy to do.

Ah sorry realised my point there was poorly described, i meant cross-proffesion skills.
Other proffesions have spammable moves that are finishers aswell as having decent damage/skill utility.

Besides the finisher part the staff #1 is VERY bad in comparison to most.

Oh yeah for cross profession the fact a necro can pretty much keep an uptime of 25 sec and more of a combo field is amazing. The staffs 1 damage is pretty lackluster though aside from the finisher, and that it hits multiple enemies, a point nobody even seems to pay attention to lol.

So far no one understands what the OP is talking about. He is talking about out of combat weapon swapping here (Ex. Warrior equipping a warhorn Out of Combat solely to get the swiftness boon, and then switching back to whatever his main 2 weapons are before entering battle). I agree that this should be looked at. Possibly once entering a match, your weapons of choice (equipped weapons) are locked in and cannot be switched out until the match is over.

If a player has the skill to equipt a weapon out of combat get a boon and swap back before getting into combat, then i do believe you can skill up to do the same thing, it is a matter of choice of whether or not you choose to do so. Can an elementalist go scepter dagger but before getting into combat go air attune bust out a staff grant swiftness to their party then swap back, sure, if they can get it done before getting into combat, which mind you is easily initiated in the game, more power to them.

Necro staff skills actually scale on worse CDs than that. 2 skill is a 5 sec cd, 3 skill is like 15 secs, 4 is 25 and the fear i think is 40. The cd on staff skills for necro is pretty horrendous, however, 1 is not useless as it is one of the few combo finishers necros actually have, and also seem to overlook. With my well traiting, 1 on the staff provides 15 secs of lifesteal with the proper rotation of wells, and 10 secs of condition removal, with the well of blood.

I know that it being a finisher is good, but the skill on it’s own is extremely lackluster.
There are plenty of other spammable moves that are finishers but have alot more flat damage, cond damage or genuine utility overall.

On a necro? Not really. Necros can place down millions of fields but have very few options when it comes to the matter of finishers, Mh dagger has no finisher, focus OH has no finisher, staff has finisher on auto attack and with the #4 blast. axe mh has no finisher, pretty sure the 2 abilities on an OH warhorn are not finishers, nor do i think the abbilties on OH dagger are finishers. Necros are just lackluster with finishers in general.

I LOL so hard at this. If that were the case, it would be completely horrible. Certain classes are complete crap without traits. Honestly why have different classes at all if that were the case. What you basically saying with that statement is, everybody play one class with the exact same abilities and let skill decide the answer. That is not even right considering the cooldowns on some classes compared to others, and this is a CD vs CD based game.

So what your saying is that any class that wields a staff or 2h weapon, that uses the abilities then has all but one or 2 skills they can use on a relatively long CD, be stuck with that weapon, and uselessly have to twiddle their thumbs around while they have to wait for CDs to come back up in a game that is based around being mobile. Of course I guess it doesn’t matter for the Engineer or Elementalist that can’t swap weapons because they use kits and atunements. Are you saying they should not be able to do that either, it would be the only way to make it fair if nobody else could switch weapons. While we are at preventing swaps, shall we take away the necros elites that give them different toolsets as well, and take away DS to?

Weapon swapping with different sigils applied to weapons are made to flow with the build of the character, if you picked a class that does not have a weapons swap, ergo no second sigil set to use, roll to a class that can.
