With knight amulet and these two equipped, I was being tickled by what were supposed to be huge bursts. Throw in prot and you’ll actually consider not running blocks since you’ll be the closest thing to a walking wall of diamonds.
Vote functions would be so good, yet so much bad could come about from it nowadays x.×.
He hits a target twice in a row with vault (l2p issue). Idk why, but I’m certain the 18k hit was on a clone, since I can’t imagine any reason he’d do an extra 6k unless he’s running executioner, but if he was then he’d be running a super squishy and super situational build (see 11k HP).
A full zerk DPS berserker is still in a better spot than w.e the OP was running here. At most, he has steal to recover 1 dodge since he doesn’t appear to be running trickery. He has limited access to stealth through his blinding powder meaning fights with this guy end in a second with either him or the target insta dying as evidenced by the ranger’s pet (emphasis on pet) hitting him for 25% of his health. This build is, essentially, as gimmicky as they come.
I honestly don’t understand why people keep bringing up damage as the sole base for their argument. It isn’t damage alone that kittenes people off about DH. It isn’t damage alone that kittenes people off about reaper. It isn’t damage that warrior complain isn’t enough. It isn’t damage that thieves are complaining isn’t enough.
I can go with a full zerk ele, setup a ridiculously uncommon situation and 1 hit 5 people with dragons tooth and tell you that I caught them off guard while they camped mid during a team fight, when in reality, I probably spent a minute stacking might and had a reaper down there spamming vuln on everyone in the circle. I wouldn’t be lying when I say that I 1 shot 5 people, but that’d essentially be a half truth since this is nothing but showboating numbers without any actual point.
Not attacking anything for longer than a minute when your team is losing should result in dishonor that stacks per minute until the match ends.
The dude confirmed it on a golem using a build that would normally keep him in spawn. Are you a golem? If so, I suppose the golem class needs a buff.
I remember when I first started. I was using this shout guardian build and tried dpsing with it to a fantastic effect (I got rekt). I pushed past it.
I remember my first time playing dark souls. I got rekt horrendously by the asylum demon and immediately quit for a whole month before I mustered up the courage to get that fatkitten down, so I understand where you’re coming from, but GW2 isn’t that difficult. Hell, if you’ve played until level 80 before PvPing (idk why I waited, but I still did), you’ll understand stats a lot better.
I don’t mind a streamlined system, but a completely dumbed down or one limited around newbies? Why not give veteran players the option to cut out the crap they don’t enjoy x.x?
I still use basilisk venom, since its arguably the strongest elite for thief. Just don’t initiate with it :P.
Or do and burn one of their stun breaks. W.e works honestly.
No guys, don’t feed the troll kitten. This is a repeat of the gunflame thread. One sec, let me build a full damage ele and hit a 20k dragon’s tooth and scream that ele needs to be weaker.
I believe I should refer to you the fool who was complaining about gun flame, but I feel like you’d support him.
I never said she didn’t type words. I just said she was typing not speaking.
But you didn’t said anything. You have just pressed down on pieces of plastic to send electronic messages received throughout the world viewable to anyone with a computer, who then can “read” the message and transfer it to a coherent sentence.
That’s the forum version of backstabbing a dude as he backstabs your team mate. You must take this thief roleplay seriously, Vincent.
Or, you know, I just walk up to you in stealth and then Final Thrust… =D yay for runes of infiltration, amirite?
So many jokes to be made here. Soooo many.
Why do you guys simplify systems so much for new players? Honestly, the game isn’t that difficult to understand. If the player has never queued on that account, force them to build their toon by opening the build screen before they begin. Refer them to meta battle so they have a template to build around.
People aren’t idiots, anet.
I respectfully, but strenuously, disagree.
In general x.x?
There were a few reasons for keeping players in HotM when queued:
- It forces new players to recognize they have completely different builds in PvP maps.
- You won’t miss the match accept because of load screens and get dishonor.
- We can make a better user experience (match accept and map voting) without having to worry about interrupting whatever a player might be doing elsewhere.
In order to allow queuing from outside HotM, we would need to change these things.
- We would need tech to remove players temporarily from queue during load screens.
- Create better tutorials or gating for new players so they don’t hop into PvP unprepared.
- Revisit the way the match flow UI works.

Thanks to SchmendrickTheMagician and Ross Biddle’s discernment for showing it is possible.
Possible using a build that will literally never work ever past the first gunflame. Then it’ll back to warming the soil with the downed bodies.
Would you believe d/d condi DrD could potentially be a thing? Because just recently I had a friend blow up my phone saying he 1v2ed 2 DHs on point with it and bled them to death. Literally “dude i just killed 2 dhs by myself! I popped their kitten traps and put over 20 bleeds on them both after everyone told me not to engage! omg X3”
It would catch on faster if it weren’t for the fact everyone is doing their kitten edest to make stealth builds work. Evades as they stand right now are not as reliable and require way more resource management then simply stealthing. But at least any of it’s hardcounters don’t shut down entire lines.
I just wanted to drop by and tell you that condi DD D/D isnt viable vs competent opponents, much less a DH who wasn’t afk. Like DH, they have to fight on point (I suppose this could be considered a bunker build), but it takes far too long to kill and is countered by………
Range. Guess where DH does a lot of their damage at?
Also, reveal isn’t as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Sure, if you’re melee and facing a herald, you’ll have a little difficulty, but the classes that can 100-0 you have no reveal and the ones that do have reveal can’t insta down you. Realistically, you’ll only have a herald with their reveal or MAYBE an engineer with lock on, since there’s no way a serious scrapper would give up the AoE CC on crate, or the rampage/moa on X, or the sweet fields on mortar. The reveal trap is also a joke.
Another thing I feel I should mention is that in a 1v1, unless VS a sustainlord like scrapper or ele (sometimes druid, with certain builds) thief is still capable of downing players. The problem herein lies with what HoT brought about, which isn’t the damage (it did bring a lot) or the CC (again, it brought a lot). The issue with HoT is that it created far too many bunkers. Bunker chrono, bunker druid, bunker reaper, bunker ele, bunker scrapper. The only classes to make it here without being restricted to a bunker role is DH and rev because of their superior on-point pressure with the ability to either escape or sustain (DH can actually escape now). You’ll find that, actually, the issue isn’t in the classes themselves per se. You’ll find that the issue is in the game mode. It promotes point control rather than actual fighting. It is because of this, bringing actual combat into the picture means very little when the real winners are the fatter team with more CC, instead of the team with better mechanical skill and rotational awareness (not saying rotations are worthless). It is also because of this reason that the back capping role of thief means very little since thief has 0 knockbacks (well, they have ONE on their DD block) and a very poor bunker build. Warriors would be fixed if they brought back pre nerf shoutbow, but honestly, it makes no difference. The name of the game is, pretty much, choose your bunker flavour.
Honestly, the only real PvP in this game exists in WvWvW and even that isn’t amazing.
Just to let you know, I’m not arguing that people shouldn’t get off their kitten and theorycraft (I did and am really enjoying my thief’s new build).
(edited by SlayerSixx.5763)
which would mean he’d have to put himself in combat first.
This alone puts a ridiculous amount of shade on the OP’s SS.
Hmm that wasn’t the point I was trying to make. Although it can be seen that way it’s not valid really because: The warrior could’ve easily been in combat from fighting someone else and built it up, or fired an auto off to then use the adrenaline signet. I believe the OP’s story completely.
I’ll expand on the point I was making with this claim: The warrior would be sub-par to a mesmer at doing the exact same thing, excluding all other advantages the mesmer also has, because warrior requires this adrenaline build-up to even be allowed to burst in the first place, and it must be built up whilst in combat unlike a mesmer or a burst build on another profession.
So you’re saying that the warrior was in the middle of a fight, has his adrenaline charged, sees A DRAGONHUNTER 1v1ing someone from a good ways away and thinks “HM, I THINK HE NEEDS HELP”.
Wat.
which would mean he’d have to put himself in combat first.
This alone puts a ridiculous amount of shade on the OP’s SS.
If that’s the case, then you forgot to mention that aside from the initial gunflame, unless they sacrifice a spot for frenzy or sigil of rage then they’ll have no quickness available for the 2nd, 3rd, or fourth shots meaning that there’s literally 0 excuse to get hit.
Complaining about getting hit from outside of their field of vision isn’t a proper excuse either, since mesmer can match that damage too if they have the time to setup without being interrupted.
Another class can steal? Then it must be thief. Nerf them please.
Noooooman, don’t waste your time explaining.
He just admitted he has HIV soooo…..
Losing.
Whenever I want to play condi, this is what I use. High mobility since thief’s primary role in CQ is to remain mobile and back cap. I suppose you could toss out a tree for SA for better sustain, but you don’t really see many condi specs in PvP. You play this similarly to the meta (or what used to be meta) D/P, with all of the usual burst power combos, but you supplement your damage with a ton of poison on auto, torment on interrupt (headshot, steal, basilisk venom), bleed on caltrops and dodge. You’ve got some sustain through nearly perma weakness. I prefer the daredevil heal for more dodging and honestly think that replacing lotus training for any of the other two dodges would be far more optimal because lotus dodging in stealth actually unstealths you more often than I’d like :/.
You could replace a imparting daggers for skale or spider venom for better condition bursting (BP>HS+steal+spider venom would equal around 5-6k power burst + all of the poison and torment ticking away for a few thousand as well).
My main issue with thieves running a build that isn’t x/SB is because of initiative restraints. You can’t do a burst with one set and then again on another set without waiting around 10 or so seconds to recover initiative.
How do you stack bleed efficiently :o? Also, wouldn’t P/D make more sense if you wanna run condi?
How2thief? Ferrrysimble.
Pick how you wanna sustain. Thief has two semi viable choices and a totally unviable 3rd that only works in solo PvE:
-Perma stealth (gunna need D/P, for the most part)
-Perma evade (gunna need daredevil. Fortunately, you’ve got more weapon choices)
-Health recovery (a mix of signet of malice and some traits)
Pick how you wanna deal damage. As per usual, condi or power.
D/D or P/D (only in WvWvW) for condi.
D/P, S/D, or staff for power.
The issue with thief is that you are totally reliant on your ability to quickly make decisions and act on them (aka, how well you can take initiative…GEDDIT? CUZ THIEF USES INITIATIVE).
You can end up theorycrafting when you’ve gotten better, but getting good on thief takes alot more time and dedication than it takes for the rest of the classes. A lot of newbies take it on and quit because they can’t stand the wait…..
Or you could just be a thief genius.
Best of luck :o.
So this is a social experiment? If so, it’d make a lot of sense.
Trick is a waste line on P/P. No point buffing steal, which is a teleport that brings you into melee range, on a build that absolutely benefits from keeping at a distance. You’ll end up stealing in and then wasting a dodge to get out. The issue with this is further exacerbated by the fact that you have no vigor sources on your build, so you’d be forced to burn steal and agility signet for the dodges meaning you can’t use steal for the interrupt in a consistent fashion and won’t be able to enjoy the cleanse when you absolutely need it.
Assassin’s signet is also a waste, since you’ll find that spamming unload vs competent players when not in stealth is a total waste.
Invigorating precision over no quarter? The only reason anyone takes crit strikes is for no quarter. If you want sustain, pick up acro in place of that since it provides you with far more defensive options. Also, assassin’s reward > invigorating precision. If you’re REALLY looking for a heal build (not optimal), signet of malice + assassin’s reward = a consistent 1.5k HP per unload. You can go further with invigorating precision, but this is a PvE build tbh.
Also, dagger storm over a stun or an insta finish with a nice CC chain? I get that you can drop it in a black powder and roflspin into some sweet immunity and is actually very effective VS dragon hunters, but it simply isn’t worth the slot when the other two are faaaaaar better.
I’d tell you what I’m running exactly, which is probably the most effective P/P build (I love the weapon set to buts) in my opinion, but where’s the fun in that :P?
-slaps-
Yudodismeng?
Old feline grace + DD condi please.
For pure damage? Give scholar or pack a shot. Feel like branching out for some more sustain? I enjoy revenant runes, but scrapper runes are also a sweet choice.
TCP*.
P stands for Peasants of course.
Would you like some ammo to reload, sir? You seem to have fired off shots.
Nice attempt at All is Vain
Yea, that was literally the only issue I had when I tried switching from guard to thief. Guard was a simple 123 with little deviation in combos. Thief, on the other hand….. I eventually stuck to watching streams until I got a breakthrough in my head. Hopefully leagues will group similarly skilled players together this time around so newbies don’t get thrashed by the abjured (or similar skill gap).
Guess i should just reroll to a warrior, mesmer or thief
One of these three is not like the other, not like the other….
I don understand your thief.
Shish kebab would be my new favourite skin. I’d use dagger just to use it.
Oh, my bad. I haven’t been a wingman for a while x.×.
It ended. You shouldn’t get dishonor AFTER a match ends, right? Last time I played was a day before this patch so I’m not entirely sure.
Used to happen before HoT launched. Close the game entirely and chill for a bit.
tomato blade op nerf now.
Next patch, they’ll remove the tomato stem and the knife blade. Now you have a tomato attached to the hilt and can stab people in the nose with mushy tomato and hope the fluid enters their lungs and causes them to choke and stab themselves while they convulse in pain, ultimately killing themselves. Then you’d get another nerf to remove the tomato so that you just smack people with a hilt, but it’ll be like a mini staff and then they’ll leave it be and nerf main staff just because.
ANet doesn’t stab you the back. They smack you square in the face with their nerf bat.
Such intro, much kitten kick. Nice job.
You’re doing god’s work, son.
That would actually be “Daughter”. But thank you.
Edited just cuz the post was that amazing.
So having the other classes roll with this is fine though?
Don’t you agree that warrior needs some seeeerious sustain boosts though? Also, condi anything is a non-factor for serious PvP discussion.
So, you mean to tell me that you managed to walk up to a DH from 1200 range without stealth and didn’t have all of your dodges burnt by true shot?
Also, KITE the guy with bow? Why, I just can’t. Excuse me as I go to the doctor, I think he’ll have to take a thorough look at my abdomen after all of this laughter.
Having it unblockable isn’t the issue. Its heavy light proccing with it. The DH burns all of your dodges with true shot and now you only have invuln, teleports, or stability prior to getting CCed being the only thing to save you from the traps +it delivers a blind to go along with it.
How is this even right? Its not even that difficult to fix, just remove the unblockable function. I suppose this is necessary so that DHs can finally dominate other DHs, revenants and chronos.
Shame for everyone else, I suppose. One more defensive tool down the drain.
Are you kittening kidding me? Thieves are the most overpowered and forgiving class at the moment.
I don’t know what more you kittening want when each of your skills is a dodge, gap closer, cc, and 10k dmg. You literally only have to spam one button and you even cry about it? Rofl.
Imagine if you had to play another class.
Lol, troll detected. You cannot have played 5 seconds of this game around a thief and really believe that. I swear thieves will probably get a permanent de-buff soon called “existing- Lose 50 hp every second for eternity.”
Also, I added capitalisation, punctuation, proper spelling, and grammatical sentence structure to the quoted portion of text. I can only hope that my ability to think can be conveyed to you through the correction of your mistakes.
Nononono, don’t help him. Let him keep bashing the second weakest class in the game. I suppose he gets the privledge of doing so since he’s playing the weakest class currently.
And they thought that keeping it that way was a GOOD thing?
I literally cannot.
Honestly, make dead or alive and savage instinct baseline. There are so many warrior traits that need to be made baseline it isn’t funny. Make eternal champion pulsing stability for yourself baseline as well and then turn your suggestions themselves into the stand alone traits. Would make a lot more sense than what you guys currently have.
