Why not? Staying true to a profession allows you become more proficient with it albeit you probably won’t know enemy class mechanics as well (you can always refer to the wiki).

That isn’t necessarily true :P. Staying true to a profession means that instead of playing the game as the game is meant to be played, you play it through your class’ viewpoint only (hence some of the ridiculous neff request threads).

Almost every source of healing has terrible healing power scaling and the amount you gain vs the potential damage you just gave up is a terrible trade off. The condi stat is what made it viable in the previous cele trio meta. The condi stat is so powerful on its own because it doesn’t need incredibly high amounts to produce a good chunk of condi DPS and there is no stat to counter it (well, I suppose vitality would, but that’s more of a soft counter).

Also, I agree that the vitality is also a big part of what made it viable for ele especially, but it isn’t the biggest part of what made it successful (I’ve seen and dueled cleric eles who would literally run in circles loltanking everyone).

Core necro is still pretty meh, especially with some of the current specs running around. Removing bunkers would actually bring back thief, power mes, and to a lesser degree, warriors.

90% of current “bunker” build run cele and it is not because of healing OPness but rather how effective it is by making an inbetween “bruiser” type that can survive for a long while and still dish out decent amount of damage…

Just felt like I’d clarify.

90% of bunker related builds run cele because of the condi stat. Split cele in two and create one with power/prec/fero and the other with just condi and re-adjust the numbers for the amount of stats lost and you might see a quite a number of changes to the elites and core specs.

I find it funny that there are basically no other pings aside from the targeting one. There’s no MIA, there’s no incoming, there’s no OMW. GW2 is a very fast paced game and sometimes, you just can’t type your messages out to your team.

First, I’m not a dude, dude. Second, match manipulation is cheating according to ANET. Queue ing with low tier players is match manipulation since it places the higher level player in a “softer” match than is appropriate.

No it doesn’t, or at least thats not how its supposed to work. Matchmaking is supposed to allocate teams so each has a 50% chance of winning.

Except it doesn’t. Matchmaking is looking at players w/l ratio. If player has above 50% w/lo ratio it will put them on team that are garanteed to lose. The amount of absolutely lopsided matches compared to even just proves it (as well as match history). Matchmaking almost NEVER tries to create teams that both have 50% win chance.

If it doesn’t gauge by elo/MMR, how would the system know how to stack the teams like this?

One time i was like usual doing 100b in mid Foefire, my m8 chrono gave me alacrity and quickness, my 100b turned into 1000b then our engi gave me magnet power, i pulled all players to my 1000b and then it happened numbers beyond believe started to appear, My GS got too hot to the point that 1000b reached their lord and got insta died, game ended with the message:

“You Win”

What the hell is all of this. So much comedic gold here. Quickly, save this in case it gets deleted.

I’ll toss my own in here.

So I was playing thief. Enemy team had a full meta comp and one berserker warrior. He kept dying and feeding kills until his allies RQed cuz we overtook them even though they were running the meta bunker comp. When they all left, the warrior’s composure changed. He stood at mid as we were all rotating home and far and he took a deep breath. Little did we know, he breathed in so deeply that all of the O2 was sucked out of the air and we insta died. Our chrono loled as he continuum shifted, but the zerker was already waiting for him in his past. Once the chrono came to, the zerker had hopped into his past through the portals he made and stole all of his pips and demoted him to amber.

Idk, how’d I do?

Problem is, a majority of the builds one can cook up on their class ARE viable and ARE powerful, just not in a conquest setting.

People seriously need to stop advocating for trait tweaks (although some specs do need some toning down) and need to start crafting game modes that don’t simply reward sitting on point all day doing nothing.

The problem with that solution is that it punishes builds that win fights, but cannot chase down targets that can stealth and/or disengage. sPvP is supposed to be the most balanced game mode, where armor and weapon strength is equal and everyone has access to the same skills, stats and traits. I’d like to see more game modes as well, but I think the priority for Anet right now should be fixing and balancing sPvP.

The issue is that power burst builds do enough damage. The bunker builds (as is currently evident) can take enough damage. Condition builds (as is currently evident) can also do enough damage. In terms of combat, the game is almost there for balance.

Like Ithilwen suggested, an attack and defense game mode would actually work very nicely with GW2’s combat system. The classes that ARE mobile can launch quick and repeated strikes (thief, warrior, mesmer, ele, engi). The less mobile classes can either boast the best defensive (not in the sense of bunkering) power, or launch a slow and deliberate assault with the intention of ending the game in one move (think of a bunker guard, necro, ranger, engi). There would be plenty of tactical choices that could be made by the team, regardless of their composition.

@Ithilwen Capture the flag would be exactly like spirit watch without the points, so I’m sure the meta would remain the same.

An attack and defense mode, like you suggested, sounds like it would be fun.

That being said, I honestly doubt that its that big of a deal who is at what rank at this point. I haven’t played since leagues dropped, but I’m far better than any of your average amber players. Would it make me a bad guy for playing ranked against them? I suppose you’d say that I’m not intentionally trying to find matches against lower ranked people while they are, but it honestly doesn’t matter. If you win, great. If you lose, look at what you could’ve done to tip the scales in your teams favour should you ever run into more legendary rank players again and make it so that ranks are nothing but pretty little gemstones next to your name.

The thing is, those high-ranked players will be punished less for losing and rewarded more for winning; that, or being matched up with equal ratings against easier opponents. And that would probably be fine, if that Division was where their true skill is, but most likely it is a highly competent friend of theirs and/or another account made by someone to boost others. I know several great people that are still not even in Amber, since they dgaf about the leagues atm, but their true skill would be equal to that of Diamond-Legend.

Here’s the problem: having people of low divisions, but high level of play, will completely warp the matchmaking in favor of the (most likely) already a stronger team, unless the low ranked person plays at his intended level. Basically the easiest way to go above your intended division is to have low ranked, yet (even moderately) high-skilled players of low rank to boost your progress.

I already posted what I think would be a fair fix for this on the first page of this thread.

Of course, what you quoted was just wishful thinking of mine since lower leveled people tend to know less of the game and even less in regards to where their mistakes were and then they eventually give up because no one enjoys being farmed.

Headshot isn’t a DPS skill, though. Well, it can be with impacting disruption, but that’s assuming daredevil.

You literally have one shot to kill your target with steal+CnD+backstab and that’s assuming air/fire proc, all crits, etc. Once you kill them for the first time, they’ll simply dodge after 1-2 or spam aoe near themselves and you’ll drop dead asap. Assuming you don’t get the kill and don’t die, then you’re stuck spamming death blossom and running in circles trying not to die.

Sorry, if D/D were viable, you’d find more and more people using it.

Then, legendary people will be stuck, unable to progress. Just because they are in minority doesn’t mean we can treat them like second class citizens.

That’s the problem, though. This is the first time they’ve ever implemented this in the game. You need muuuuch longer than 3 weeks for everything to even out. The legendaries will have to simply wait until the rest of the game catches up so that matchmaking can actually do its job.

So why are you running D/D? Assuming you aren’t camping stealth, D/P still has shadow shot and head shot which are both much better than dancing dagger and CnD. If you spam heartseeker as a gapcloser….

Also, this carries no weight vs players who know what they’re doing. IF you manage to instagib them, they’ll be more than prepared for your next assault. Then, judging from your ridiculous burst, they’ll know you’re squishy AF and would immediately have you begin a very intimate relationship with your spawn.

That being said, I sincerely doubt warriors are in any position to call ANYONE out on their class choice. At least thief can properly rotate :P.

You know..that fast cast interrupt you sit on all game, but never use..use that.
Then apply that high level condition poison you have on your power build. Problem solved.

Hambow was more of a soloQ hero tbh.

Druids pack better healing and similar CC, but nowhere near the same DPS. The counters people suggest are what is generally known to hamper their ability to crap out heals, but if you want to change the game for the better (and I totally agree that the current state isn’t anywhere near acceptable), suggest tweaks rather than outright nerfs.

If your entire team is running power based builds (hard to believe) simply focus him or outrotate to the point where you outnumber him and then focus him. Druid, like every other bunker build, is just a nuisance.

Poison is what you seek.

Cleansed easily. Never even applies to DS ele.

Ele can get crushed 2v1. Druid has obvious heal animations, so if you can’t interrupt the big ones, drop a quick poison. Also, if you’re applying poison (let’s assume doom sigil) you won’t just be running the poison. Drop a damaging condition and the poison among a few others. If you’re lucky, their cleanse doesn’t touch the poison/DPS condi. If you’re semi-lucky, one will remain. If you’ve kittened off the rain gods, they’ll consistently cleanse those two.

Better idea over here, fellas. Why not just make it so that unless a majority of the enemy team is at least on your level (if you’re legendary, the enemy team would need as much or more people of your rank), you won’t get a pip for your win?

This would solve the problem of people bypassing the matchmaker and making life easier for the lower ranks, but then it entirely destroys the experience for the very few in the upper tiers. Hopefully, when people start to experience better games, they’ll have more motivation to continue ranking and, eventually, you’ll have enough people chilling at diamond+ and then there will be no need for this nonsense.

mobas only work as you have hardly any rotations, and splits are obvious.

Splits are obvious, but they place noted strain on the team being backdoored. The person backdooring usually is in a prime position to single handedly secure the win for his team or even double back while deep warding and picking off the enemy DPSers who usually hang back behind their tanks. Aside from that (speaking about league now), there are a few junglers capable of soloing baron (super version of chieftain+svanirx1000) and taking dragon (the equivalent of just chieftain or svanir) is a laughably easy task that can be done as early kitten into the match and if you’ve been doing your job right as a jungler, you should have secured enough dragon buff stacks for the final buff that, again, grants a ton of damage for your allies.

On that note, a split in gw2 would be just as obvious as well, since you’d see the person capping as soon as the point illustration changes. Also, when splitting, if your team has adequate communication, there’s literally no way for the enemy to sneak around you without stealth since there are very few alternate paths for one to take for flanking and even less if you don’t have a teleport.

To call conquest complex is funny, friend.

Nah, it isn’t just fresh air that doesn’t work anymore, its practically every burst build. Warriors and thieves are the most vocal because they’re incapable of building a worthwhile build that isn’t centered around burst. That being said, I still understand your sentiment. Balance, for the most part, is there or at least it is in my opinion. What needs to change is the game mode. Then you’ll see much less emphasis on bunkers and burst builds will come finally get to see the light of day.

Also, as choov said, there are plenty of ways (plenty being relative, kek) to create a viable (viable being relative to your skill tier) build for sPvP.

Honestly, if Anet devs actually played their game to its fullest, they’d understand, better than any rager on the forums, what the game truly needs in terms of balance. I suppose its only right to assume that they listen to the vocal minority who constantly leave their droppings all across the forums since its obvious they don’t actually know how their game works. Oh well.

OP has a valid point, irrespective of who won the game.

So you believe that ranks will make or break the match? You do understand that there are unranked people running around in WvWvW right now who would probably wipe the floor with these meta hugging farmers, right? Hell, you wouldn’t need to go into WvWvW. Some duel server regulars would probably be able to do the same. Ranks mean nothing. If you believe that, then you’ll forever be stuck crying that you were beaten by someone with a prettier gem next to their name.

Is it match manipulation? Sure. But it isn’t honestly that big of a deal. People spend too much time crying over rank as if they have no chance to win at all.

At this point you really just need to learn to play. ANET doesn’t need to nerf me (again) because of your lack of skill.

Chrono is still a problem, I believe. That being said, simply make it so you can’t heal or buff NPCs. Nerfing a class due to a particular game mode isn’t the right way to go, tbh.

Bunkers aren’t about skill. Burst is about stacking damage and bunkers are about stacking defense. Bruisers bring both and eventually beat both. None of the three are especially enjoyable. The game needs a total rework, IMO. More solidified roles. For this to happen without screwing PvE and WvWvW over, we need a PvP split.

Scrapper can totally force the Tempest to lose a point.

Beside that, you shouldn’t fight a Tempest on a capped node anyway. If it’s your point, you win, the Tempest hits like a wet noodle and can’t kill you. If it’s neutral, you win, the Tempest can’t support the big team fight, and can’t cap you. If it’s enemy capped, what the kitten you’re doing there with a bunker?

This is pretty much what any sane, decently skilled player knows and believes. People need to put more pressure on anet to create a new PvP mode. Conquest is the reason why all of these super bunkers exist and its definitely not fun. That’s also one of the reasons, I believe, Anet can’t effectively balance their game. The classes are, believe it or not, actually balanced for the most part, or I should rather say that core is balanced vs core and elite is balanced vs elite since there’s no argument that these two are from different worlds.

For the record, I’m in my fourth year in GW2 and have played and liked Mesmer since soon after I started.

Yeah I can avoid traps if I’m willing not to cap the point they are set on. This is a near guaranteed death if I try to cap. How is that not OP? WoP was an appropriate countermeasure.

I just want to drop in and mention that mesmer is actually one of the best suited classes for dealing with DH.

Send in a clone to trigger whatever traps could already be laid down, blink to escape in case he teleports on top of you or pulls you in. Sword 2 and distort as an invuln. If you’re vanilla, mass invis to avoid the true shot spam and attempt to reset now that his traps are on a 25s CD. If you’re chrono, shield and WoP to still facetank. A majority of DH’s burst is traps which a mes can easily avoid. A majority of mes’ burst is mind wrack, which is on a 10s CD (a little longer if you consider the skills used to generate clones for the burst and a little longer still if you decided to burn iLeap to whiff his traps). A full trap (or even medi trap) has RF for x2 SoC which amounts to a whole 10s of block time which leaves you a whole 10s to mind rek him before his first trap comes off CD. If you’re complaining about maw, that means he took a serious hit to his sustain and if you can use any one of your more than suitable get-out-of-jail-free cards, he has 5s to kill you before he dies a humiliating death.

You say that ANET shouldn’t be focusing on pro league relating balancing (which they said they weren’t doing), but pro league is exactly where mesmer wasn’t viable for the longest time. In terms of PUGs and non-tourney related PvP, mesmer had it quite nice after 6/23. If you believe otherwise, I have seen, played, and spoken with many mesmer who’d like to tell you otherwise.

We already have a map with a supposed anti-bunker mechanic.
It’s called skyhammer and it’s highly unpopular. Any map mechanic, that lays down direct damage and control effects on points will hit non-bunkers far harder than actual bunkers.

The hammer isn’t an issue. Once you get the timing right, you can dodge mid-fight without a problem. The issue with skyhammer is the emphasis on troll CC builds. I can’t remember how many times I was having a leisurely stroll to one of the side points and a mesmer/engi pop out of stealth and CC me off the sides.

That being said, I still enjoy skyhammer. Its still a fun map.

As for map mechanics countering bunkers, what’s stopping the bunker from walking off point and coming back in a few seconds after they’ve healed up? Mesmer and ele can do this quite easily and then simply resume the sustain game until you die while a team mate of theirs rotates to kill the person using said map mechanic. If the enemy is another bunker who came late to the party, he’ll grab point and then it’ll be another race for the map mechanic. At this point, you may as well replace the bunkers with seigerazer or some other tanky NPC and turn PvP from fighting over points to fighting over treb.

There are no actual pointers that could be given that would actually help you in any considerable way as a SoloQer.

There’s the usual stuff like:

-Pay attention to the map and outrotate/+1.
-Fight on point when you have it capped. Feel free to fight off point if you’ve got ranged pressure and they’re primarily melee. Fight on point if you’re confident you can force a quick decap (only possible with tons of displacement CC).
-If its Kyhlo, try to find a good opportunity (usually after a team fight you’ve won) to run and destroy their treb. If you feel like your build isn’t suited for larger team fights, feel free to soften up the enemies on mid with the treb (don’t camp).

NO, NOW I REMEMBER. THE CLASS WASN’T CALLED THIEF, IT WAS CALLED SB5. My apologies, its been such a long time since anyone gave a crap about SB5. In fact, the last time I heard any legitimate QQ was back before Anet patched them. Before the patch, they used to be called Heartseeker.

My rule of thumb is that high sustain should be available only to those who spend months on the same profession..if not years of practice, nobody should become an unkillable rambo after watching a youtube video and copy/paste a build from metabattle

And guess what? I agree with you. I don’t believe warrior and thief should just get straight DPS and healing added to their kit, since that would cause a whole slew of problems. I believe that the whole design needs a thorough looking at. Also, the 18k base means nothing in the current meta. Hell, reapers technically can wrack up 40k+ if they wanted to if they didn’t attack and ran in circles while managing their LF. DPS isn’t a major issue since thief can still (more or less) burst for around 10k+ out of stealth. The issue is the design overall.

Idk man, I feel compelled to comment because I love the game and what it used to be/couldve continued being, but its been ruined.
