Ranger Pet DPS -- more quick Mists tests

Sleepy.2647

Wrong. Pets get rooted in place when they attack, while your target moves out of range. Birds have 300 range on most of their attacks and they STILL whiff 50% of the time. Ranged pets have generally pretty crappy dps from what I can tell, so problem is still there.

Wrong,The only time bird misses is when he uses the skill casted by the pet itself, and that happens once every…10-15 attacks? Not a big deal

Same goes for all other pets, autoattacks RARELY miss. Don’t base your facts on a BS video, try it yourself. Arguing that pets miss 50% of their attacks is BS, they hardly miss 1/10 with or without trait, but trait helps catching up your target faster so it boost the DPS against moving targets.

And devourers don’t make bad DPS, they are actually the best DPS against moving targets or mobs/bosses that hurt melee pets. Canines are also great because they cripple a lot.

Conclusion…want to get the most out of your pets? Learn to use them. Just like you can’t be in melee in many situations pets can’t do it either…you can’t expect a pet to go melee and survive to something that you wouldn’t survive.

It just baffles me that people are actualy making backpieces that cost 100g+

Here’s a cheap one that costs you 0g

1x Prototype Fractal Capacitor (1350 fractal relics)
1x Gift of ascencion (500 fractal relics)
40x crystals or 240 philosophers stones (24 skill points)
1x Vail of condensed mist essence (pretty common drop in FotM)

Hope this was useful to someone

Have a nice day

Pretty much what I was going to say. Instead of using a stationary golem, use a moving one.

Then prepare to measure your results in minutes instead of seconds.

Use the 30% mov speed trait = problem solved
Use a ranged pet = problem solved
Use both = amazing.

It’s like saying i can’t hit from 1.200+ range because i refuse to use anything but an axe.

There is a reason why you can change pets anytime (outside combat), anywhere.

Umm… you really think that’s a simple test? Maybe it doesn’t take a genius, but I think you could get it easier and more quantifiable results.

Easier? Maybe, more accurate? No. The only reason why people may think MF is fine it’s because they NEVER been in a group with 5 MFers, put them together and let the results show up.

There are not that many selfish greedy players, it’s hard to get 3-5 on the same group tho it may happen…and when it happens you’ll wish you didn’t join that team

You are just assuming, if it was a 3% stats loss i wouldn’t make 1/2 less damage with MF gear.

I would like to join that test vs a MF warrior with my Ranger anytime. And you are just pointing out that wearing MF set in Orr doesn’t matter…no one said otherwise because you are playing ALONE there so you can do whatever you want…not like you need anything there to tag mobs.

The test it’s simple, 5 players doing the same dungeon that takes 1h+ with normal gear then do it again with full MF gear. People can’t just argue “Hey, i use MF gear and parties are fine” because most of the time they are the only leecher in the group.
With 5 players using MF gear no one will be “tanky”, no one will be “high DPS”…therefor dying faster and killing slower, it doesn’t take a genious to see what happens. Even if they are the best players on GW2 the difference between normal and MF gear would still be huge, killing a mob in 20 seconds instead of 10 seconds multiplied by X mobs in the dungeon, coupled with downtimes like wipes that are more likely to happen or dead/downed people more often.

Well Sleepy, look at the actual numbers.

Wearing explorer armor instead of valkyrie, knights, zerker, or whatever, that’s gonna cost you about 3% of your character’s total stats. 3% isn’t a little kittened or puppied or anything. Given all the other variability in gameplay, it’s probably not detectible over the RNG of your weapon and crits.

Where does that 3% actually come from?
MF gear has less stats if you didn’t notice, not just the lack of a third stat.
Normal exotic chest armor = 101 main stat, explorer exotic MF chest armor = 72 main stat?
If you add to that, the lack of runes which boost your power/prec/crit as well as the completely lack of critical damage (roughtly 60%+ critical damage)…how can all that be 3% damage loss?

I have no idea where people pull these numbers from…3% difference…yeah…right. Someone who DOESN’T have MF set might actually believe you, people who has it won’t.

My difference between my own MF set and my glass cannon set = probably close to 1/2 damage loss…that’s “sightly” more than just 3%.

I think the important thing is to notice there is a cost in performance of wearing magic find, but it’s not all that huge. Given that most of a character’s performance is NOT from gear, your choices in weapon set, utilities, and deploying skills/dodge/positioning matter so much more.

MF gear does not make you a glass pea shooter. It’s a handicap, but not all that much. This makes sense when you think of how everyone wears magic find gear while farming in the highest level zones, and we get along just fine.

The issue is thinking that because you play well you won’t make your team worse by wearing MF, that might be the case if only ONE is using MF because you will hardly notice it out of 5 players (you can still tell when there is someone slacking or using MF).

For example, to me, wearing MF or not means hitting 1/2 of what i can hit with my glass cannon…doing that just feels like i’m doing nothing for the team…i’m just there to dodge and nothing else since i’m doing way too low damage to be effective in a dungeon where you need to kill fast certain stuff or something like that.
If i had a tanky build, but i’m using MF it defeats the purpose of having a tanky build…so it beats down the same argument, you can’t make a tanky build with MF gear and you can’t make a glass cannon build with MF gear.

MF wasn’t made to use it in dungeons, sure people could wear let’s say 40-50% MF at most and still be “fine”, a little kittened but fine. The problem is using MF gear that puts you well above 100%+ and still think you are doing fine for your group…no you are not no matter how good you play you are simply getting carried.

No matter how well you play, if you could do it 2x better without MF gear then you are leeching your team.

Some bosses easily have over 1 million health. So /5 and do your analysis with 200k health now. Now do that over multiple bosses and multiple dungeon runs. You must be an mfer trying to justify how bad you are.

It’s obvious that people who says MF gear is not bad for dungeons are just trying to justify their selfish actitude. I have MF gear myself and i know it’s freaking bad…anyone who uses it knows perfectly you are getting carried by your group if they are half decent.

Yes, speculation is having less stats…get real. Speculation on GW2 is saying you do the highest damage in your party because you pull aggro.

I have full MF gear, i know perfectly how it is wearing it or not. The fact that people claims to have the similar stats with and without MF gear it’s funny tho…they are willing to say anything in an attempt to prove they are not greedy.

I know it’s not completely random, but it’s not any kind of aggro system that allows you to state that you get aggro because you make the highest DPS, it has nothing to do with the damage you do. You can get aggro by multiple factors, so it defeats your point entirely.

You can just go near a boss and get aggro, or stay away and still get aggro because others dropped it.

Well when you roll and Ele and are constantly the furthest away from the mobs, then you can possibly explain to me how one gets all the aggro without doing highest DPS…

Cause I sure don’t use an effing shield to draw aggro.

Aggro = Random, even if you don’t hit the boss you will get hit eventually. It’s funny to see people saying on this game “I hit like a truck because i got aggro”.

The difference between a full set of greens with magic find and a full set of oranges with crit chance is only roughly 5-6% damage output.

What? 5 or 6%? Even a set of full exotic MF gear will make you worse than that…by far.
I don’t know what comparison you made between gear but MF gear has less stats and no third stat.
In the case of explorer gear for example, you have less power and no critical damage at all, now add to that the stats missing from jewerly and all the runes from armor/jewerly which results in you having less power and zero critical damage outside the traits (30%…and you can reach 100%+ in PvE).
I would like to know how a 70% less critical damage and probably 250-300+ less power results into 5-6% damage loss.
The difference is so big that a green set of no MF gear is better than full exotic MF gear.

Crazy… last time I ran TA with 2 guildies and 2 pick-ups, I ran MF AND still drew all the aggro.

Stats only help you so much, if you can’t maximize your skills effectively and mitigate damage properly you’re doomed to fail no matter what gear you have. Assuming MF gear brings the party down is pathetic, learn your profession better if you’re failing at dungeons because that’s what will help you get ahead.

Yeah, because getting aggro in this game = you doing the highest dps…ermmmm…not.

1) I run in guild but I still use MF .. No one complains because I get the job done
2) If you are in an inactive guild, join an active one? Multi-guilding is possible!

Is it perhaps possible that you’re guild/party members does NOT run with magic find? Don’t you think that they are doing more than you? In other words picking up the slack.

Well it’s all good right, because they’re you’re guild members. Surely, in a big guild, at least 4 people are sitting in LA looking to run dungeons and waiting for you to show up. ( I am in a big guild btw, 300+ members 80+ online at primetime)

We recently played against Subject Alpha. I’m the only one who could survive the whole ordeal, making it possible for them to respawn and run back without him getting health back. I don’t think they are doing more then me. The only difference my MF set does with a non-MF set is that I don’t have more critical dmg and I have 90 less power. It doesn’t change a lot.

It doesn’t change a lot if only 1 player on the party is the “leecher”, if everyone does it you will multiply the difficulty and time spent doing the dungeon.
You can’t argue that since you are skilled you are better than others while using MF because if you take into consideration everyone is at the same skill level MF gear = worse.
In fact, a set of green gear adapted to your build is probably better than MF exotic gear with random worse stats. The difference is not 90 less power, it’s probably 90 power from the armor itself, then X more from the jewerly, and X more from the runes…coupled with pretty much all your critical damage if it’s the case of berseker gear, that’s a bit more than just 90 less power…it’s 1/2 of your damage.

Yes, i agree with the above post…rewarding more silver will increase the prices for everything where as instead of rewarding silver if you got more lodestones and T6 mats it would not just make prices cheaper but would give a better economy overall.

However the silver gain is “fine” because it doesn’t give you more gold than what a MF farmer could get doing events. But giving more silver is not better, it just makes the gap between new players and old players much bigger because prices on everything will be a lot more expensive.

Just give us inspect feature and problem solved…those who want MF gear will get to group up with MF players…easy fix.

What’s the complain about having inspect feature? That people can’t lie anymore to leech groups? If MF gear is so good then why don’t these kind of players make full MF parties? Oh…right…it’s because it would take them two or three times more time to complete a dungeon.

The argument about people not inviting new players is invalid…because people right now could kick anyone with low achievements anyways…and i’ve yet to see people who really cares about players not having yet full exotic gear. The thing is that any of these new players with green gear proper for their build can support more their party than someone using MF gear with random stats for their build.

Arah actually gives probably more gold than anything else if you just keep doing path 3 first 2 champs over and over. Over 28s with gold food+ chest and two bags in 5-10 minutes at most.

They buffed drops and i guess that’s fine, but they should have tuned the drops according to the dungeon a bit more instead of giving everything the same reward (10s+bag to every boss-semi boss). But i don’t think the drops are excesive considering that you can do outside dungeons the same and more gold than that.

Most of the time bad players are simply not “giving their best”.

Your computer sucks? You’re not doing the best you could. You could buy a new computer.

Your internet sucks? See above.

You can’t dodge or kite properly? You need to spend more time practicing. Time is money. Take a day off work, practice.

They aren’t giving you “their best”.

Do you have facebook open and chatting while playing? Are you on your headset chatting casually with a friend? You’re not giving “your best”.

Are you eating while you’re playing? Are you worried that your girlfriend is going to break up with you? You’re not doing “your best”. You are distracted.

If I could have my MF AND max gear, I would. I don’t play bad on purpose. I want to use MF, and I don’t fail at contributing to my party. I really don’t see how this is a problem. Unless you start refusing people for all the above reasons too, which some people do. And that’s sad, and probably turns a lot of people away from gaming.

Your argument makes no sense, people who has a bad computer, can’t dodge or plays worse than you are already giving their best…you however don’t.
There are many forms of leeching, like what you said about playing semi-afk, just like using MF gear is also leeching and being selfish
I noticed you have a hard time facing the truth, but if you are already in a set group who agrees with you leeching a bit why are you so worried? The skill of the player has nothing to do with this topic, using MF gear is much worse than using normal gear so there is no point argueing over this.

@Ivanov
That’s what the leechers don’t understand, it’s not profitable to use MF gear in a dungeon that will slow down everyone included yourself. Sure if you are the only one leeching then it “could” be a bit profitable because it won’t slow down the group by an hour, but if several people in your party do it you will probably be stuck in a party that will spend too much time doing the dungeon for a small profit.

Either way, I’m not a weak link in my party, and someone using MF isn’t by default a weak link either.

That’s being a leecher want it or not. Bad players are not leechers, people plays better or worse…that’s a fact, but if you are not giving your best without the need of spending anything that’s leeching your party.

Sure you might not be a weak link to your party, but tell your whole party to use full MF gear and let’s see if the party is so efficient
As i said, it’s hardly noticable having 1 “MFer” in the group, take a whole group of MFers and let’s see how well and fast it goes.

There is an huge difference between not having the gear and having it and not using it just because you want better profit on YOURSELF. I would take a new player with green gear adapted to their build over a skilled MFer anytime, if i’m going to carry someone i choose the one who needs it the most.

The thing is still that people should be able to choose, right now there is no choice because people can simply lie and link normal gear when in reality they are using “Leecher” gear.

So having MF gear is only about the third stat…huh? There are no sigils, there are no runes. Also it’s not only the third stat, your main stats are also lower because MF gear has worse stats, an example is the chests, MF ones have 72 to the highest stat and normal gear has 101.

Sure you probably won’t notice the difference with 1 leecher, but take 5 players with MF gear and let’s see if it’s not noticable. You can also do Dungeons with 3-4 players without any problem by that matter…and in fact the time spent between 3 players with good gear and 5 players with full MF gear probably will be the same if the skill involved is equal.

The thing is that with 1 MFer in your group it won’t make it obvious, take 2 or 3 and you will see the DPS/survivality is much worse and therefor time spent doing a dungeon increases a lot…you don’t need to be a genious to see that.

People who uses MF gear in dungeons should only play with the same kind of people using MF, they would then notice how kitteny it actually is to be in such group, but they should be happy because they all can use that gear to get 20-40s more in a 2h dungeon. Players don’t realize this because usually you get one or two of these leechers at most, it’s quite rare to see 3-5 players on the same group using MF…but i wish that happened more often so Anet had thousand of complaints on the forum whining about this same topic

People should not be forced to play the way they don’t want, but that applies for both sides…you can’t force people to carry leechers just because you can’t tell who is the actual leecher unless you ask for people to link their gear and check the skins one by one (and even then, they could have 2 sets with same skins so you can’t tell).

Everything is doable with MF gear, but is it the same spending 30 minutes than spending 45 or 1h? Probably the one who has 6h+ to play everyday doesn’t give a crap, but the one who has 1 or 2 hours actually wants to get the most out of their time.

The fact that you don’t deal MAX damage isn’t that huge of a deal. You’ll slow the run down by a minute or two.

Also, well you can consider it selfish, I have to pay for those runes, and that armor, and those weapons. And some of them are quite expensive.

By 1 minute or two? That might be the case in the speed runs that take like 15 mins to be completed, but then, put everyone on MF gear and even those 15 min will turn into 30.

No matter how skilled people is, sure to do crappy speed runs the gear doesn’t matter, but on dungeons that take longer than 30 mins or hours to be completed…even having a single player using MF gear is bad and noticable.

And MF gear is not THAT expensive, in fact it’s cheap. Using MF gear in dungeons is very selfish because it doesn’t boost your profit by much considering many mobs can’t be looted and chests ignore MF completely or so it seems.

Btw i have full MF gear, but i know it’s garbage to use it in Dungeons because it makes everyone spend more time doing it and the profit for using MF in a dungeon is pathetic compared with what you get farming fields/events with it.

Yes, it shouldn’t work in dungeons, or add inspect feature as people said. It’s not acceptable to do a dungeon that takes over an hour to complete with normal gear and find kittened characters that are simply “leeching” for the most part because no matter what build you use it makes your character much worse therefor increasing that 1h+ probably by half hour or more.

I don’t have anything against people who uses MF gear, but if they want to use it they should make MF gear groups or invite people who is agree with it.

That being said, this doesn’t mean i don’t want people with bad gear in my team, but i don’t want people who probably has good gear using bad one just because they want to make a dungeon sightly more profitable and much slower for the entire party to complete. And yes, it is that bad…it lowers your damage pretty much by 1/3 or even 1/2 in some cases like medium armor.

From the video itself you can notice it was used almost on every single fight and the enemy didn’t even notice they killed themselfs most of the time.

The build seems decent tho, but relies too much on pain inverter which it’s not available for everyone and certainly doesn’t work vs everyone. It’s good to see someone actually using well the sword.

Now I’ve decided to reroll a (longbow or riffle) warrior for sPvP and PvE, there’s no other option unfortunately.

Good luck with ranged warrior you’ll need it

Longbow is a decent weapon capable of doing some burst if you combine it with quickness, i run a glass cannon berseker build and for PvE/Dungeons shortbow + longbow are a must have if you want to maximize your DPS with that build.

In WvW i stick to Longbow most of the time, great weapon and barrage does good damage, 12 arrows that hit 500-1k+ each on average…simply great.

For sPvP however Longbow is not very good because it’s sort of limited, tho the knockback and barrage are still good.

Is Ranger a DPS class or not?

in Ranger

Posted by: Sleepy.2647

Sleepy.2647

@Sleepy 2 things:

1. not sure if serious, but there are players with 5+ professions at 80 with exotic gear.

2. also not sure if serious, but when you say that big flashy numbers aren’t “DPS” then what is? many classes can drop this “burst” damage more often that a ranger can deliver similar damage, even with pet. our single target damage usually doesn’t even amount to what other professions can dish out in an area.

1- I know there are players with plenty of level 80 chars fully geared, however if you read a few posts from that person you would realize that’s not one of them

2- DPS is damage per second, not big numbers…if you can’t compete with other classes DPS then you are doing something wrong.
It’s true that our only weakness is our AoE damage compared to certain classes but AoE usually is not that needed and when needed have barrage which does 10k+ (just to say a MINIMUM amount of damage) and piercing arrows which are great if you care enough about hitting at least 2 targets pretty much the whole time.
For PvE dungeons longbow/shortbow are a must have set up, if people doesn’t maximize their DPS it’s because they simply don’t want to. People says ranger doesn’t have “damage” mainly because you don’t see a 30k crit, however it’s as easy as using Barrage + Rapid fire every time you have QZ up to dish out between 15-30k+ in about 5 seconds and i’m not even gonna bother saying how much damage a well used pet can provide.

Mob tagging as ranger is ok, not the greatest but not the worst either. With traps trait, shortbow piercing arrows and longbow barrage you can tag mobs quite well.

For leveling i advice you 15 points in beastmastery to reduce the pet swap cooldown, then the rest either on markmanship (20 points to get 10% damage boost with full endurance and piercing arrows) or Skirmishing (30% pet crit damage, 20% bows cooldown, being able to throw traps, etc).
But it’s up to the kind of ranger/build you prefer, i’m not that much into condition builds.

Yes, ranger will get more improvements eventually. The problem is a lot of people just want to get more damage while all the ranger needs it’s not really a damage boost (in general, some stuff could use more damage).

I am quite surprised that all of the posts so far weren’t whines about how the entire class is unplayable and he should just reroll a warrior.

I meant in the whole ranger forum, not this thread…but yeah, i guess that kind of people already got tired/quitted or are too busy doing Fractals

Is Ranger a DPS class or not?

@MeGaZlo, you are directly going to the ignore “troll” list, the true fantasy is you having all classes at 80 fully geared as you said

My statement is based on facts, if you can’t handle your pet don’t play ranger.

They are beasts in PvE and great in Dungeons. Ignore the whines, they are in every single forum not just ranger one.

Ranger is obviously a DPS class and a good one, what does DPS mean? If what you want is flashy big numbers then no, it’s not a “DPS” class…but then…that’s not DPS.

1- It depends on your build, i use currently a glass cannon berseker build, works fine anywhere if you can actually dodge (not adviced if you often get hit by “one shot” abilities.

2- Ruby Orbs, cheap and effective

3- Air/fire superior sigil works wonders, Air is cheap and boosts your damage.

4- Many, you can’t stick to only two pets, but if you do…devourers are probably the best for all kind of fights…they are tanky, ranged and deal decent damage. Raven/Hawk are great DD, so is Jaguar, Hawk F2 is quite good tho.

5- 15 points into Beastmaster are pretty much a must have, the rest depends on your build. I myself use 20/30/5/0/15 right now, works quite well.

6- Personal choices, i have QZ (you can use it for many situations like speeding up a cast, rezzing faster, opening something faster, shooting Barrage/Rapid Fire fast, etc). My second and third skills are Signet of Renewal and Signet of the Wild mainly for the passive and Renewal for an emergency.

7- Rampage as One, Entangle, and Spirit of Nature…all of them are great. For Fractals you will probably give much more use to RaO but Spirit of Nature it’s amazing in certain fights.

Just did 4 fractals in a row with the same random group having 3 rangers on the party…probably one of the best groups i’ve had for Fractals so far…3 rangers, a thief and a mesmer from lvl 9 to level 13.

That’s the thing, only a minority of the people who got precursors actually put it for sale on the TP

I don’t care so much about the precursors, the 20 slots bag was already a good reward
