You don’t need Signet of Stone at all, it’s quite useless if you don’t have signets traited to apply to yourself and entangle is not that good considering you are “melee”…you could take more advantage of Rampage as One.
I don’t really know, but you could use your skirmishing points on marksmanship in order to get the signets trait and give you more raw damage
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
It depends on what you actually do in GW2, for general PvE/Dungeons you probably won’t really need longbow except to use barrage every now and then.
If you do WvW…i wouldn’t even go WvW without a longbow, i rarely use shortbow there with a power/crit buils, but that’s just me.
I like the class, not the look. I have warrior, necro and working on a guardian…but the one i like the most is ranger. I’ve played archers/rangers in plenty of mmorpgs (P2P or F2P), and pretty much all of them were about the same burst machine that dies if that same burst didn’t kill your target…it gets really boring.
I don’t need to play the class that does the most damage (burst) in order to enjoy it. As Himei said it’s a matter of taste.
Hmmm, if you are going to use axe/longbow then use longbow as a starter because when mobs get close you do way less damage. You would benefit more by using a shortbow or a sword/anything if you only use your secondary weapon as a finisher.
Also note that you are using probably one of the weakest weapons combo we have, longbow does decent damage at max range, not so decent once you lose that range. And axe by itself is “imo” the most weak weapon for a power/prec build, it’s “ok” for condition builds.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
Yes, it’s obviously doable but they are still the bottom line for it. I know many people who plays thief and retired it from dungeons/pve completely. They certainly need to be buffed in PvE.
It’s not just ranger the only class that needs fixes, most of the classes (if not all) need them in one way or another. Also the only way to fix a class is not boosting the damage, balance comes in many ways.
Pets are what makes rangers unique, just like every class has its own feature. I’d rather they work on the pets a lot than buffing ranger damage and making it the two shotting sniper.
“IF” warrior can do that, then people who wants to play that way already has a class suited for them, there is no need to do the same with rangers.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
So if you honestly think the Ranger is fine, play one to 80, make a youtube video of you doing good in all aspects of the game WvWvW, sPvP, Dungeons, and random PvE including boss fights, and I’ll make a youtube video of my other three 80s doing it not just better, but MUCH better.
I wouldn’t have said anything if you didn’t include thief there, but thiefs are probably the bottom line for PvE/dungeons :O
Not all bosses are the same, that one was much weaker defense wise than the ones you find on the rest of dungeons. And 5 stacks of might still don’t give 65 condition damage
As you can see on this screenshot, 7 stacks of might (you had 5) and 100 condition damage from wildness survival still only makes me hit for 60 dmg …/facepalm. You probably had about 200-300 condition in your build in order to reach that amount of bleed damage. By looking at the missing HP i can also tell that ranger didn’t have 15,082 HP which is what you have with full berseker “build”…it probably had around 16.5k-17k, so it either didn’t have berseker gear completely or it had many trait points used on Wildness Survival and Nature.
I wasn’t even using proper traits/runes having only 50% critical damage on this screenshot (90-100%+ crit dmg on a PvE ranger), that boss was even weaker defense wise than light golems and you can crit these for 1k+ easily with pretty much half the critical damage than what a PvE char can have…so yeah, do the maths.
You are welcome to ignore my posts.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
I’m quite sure you don’t do 65 bleed damage with berseker gear/build. Not even if you put 30 points into Wilderness Survival you will reach 65 bleed damage, you need way more than that.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
What maths? I can’t prove wrong anything because that boss no longer exits, but the fact that you do 60+ bleed damage already PROVES you didn’t have full berseker gear/build, period…there is your proof on your own screenshot.
You posted two screenshots comparing apples to potatoes trying to make a point, that’s not productive in any sort of way. Where are the maths on these screenshots? You ask for something you didn’t do yourself.

Disable mailing items/gold? Are you serious? Whats the reason? Cause of gold sellers? What if I want to send my friend 10 silver for repairs, or i want to send him dye which I dont need, etc? Most lame idea Ive heard for the past few days.
You can always use guild bank to transfer items/gold, so goldsellers would still be able to sell gold…except maybe it could be easier to track (whoever was in that guild).
What makes you think they will care about this?
No one remembers the halloween event? People spent hundreds of gold crafting these exotics and a few days later they were dropping like candy and sold for 10-20g.
Just deal with it, prices change and “tomorrow” the current legendaries will be obsolete and new ones will be in demand. Whatever you buy today, tomorrow might be worth much more or nothing at all…it’s a gamble, it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it or not.
I just hope they balance classes better, make dungeons (final chest) more rewarding and remove completely the event mobs tagging mindless farm…it just promotes “botting, afking”.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
(b) It identifies you as someone who’s played long enough to get 100g and cares enough about WvW to waste it on a shiny badge – i.e., someone who, statistically speaking, might know more about WvW than average and might, on average, be worth at least listening to.
Most of the commanders didn’t really pay 100g for it, while some could have done it, most of them just collected the 100g from their guild
They should disable commanders title outside WvW, easy fix. There is not a single reason why it should work outside WvW.
I agree that stealth is sort of bad unless you give pretty much to all classes the ability to see stealth for a short period of time. The way they did it in GW2 is very bad, there is no way to detect stealth players and hitting them doesn’t break it either.
Clearly you never play warrior before and you have no idea what you’re talking about.
I have a fully geared ranger and a fully geared warrior.
My warrior has way more survivability than ranger in WvW circumstances, even when my ranger is building as vit oriented set while my warrior is just full glass cannon set.
I do have a warrior, and even if warrior has sightly more HP with full berseker, he has MUCH less survivality than a ranger.
As i said, rifle glass cannon warrior is good for WvW, but in 1v1 situation it’s garbage.
Also the “insane” crits are just on upgraded 80’s, it doesn’t insta kill anyone level 80.
I don’t even remember the last time i got caught by a zerg with my ranger…who the hell uses shortbow against zergs? 95% of the time you won’t apply bleed, DPS wise longbow is better, safer and has more utility…and…has some “burst”, obviously not in the form of 10k insta crit, but it has some burst.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
We probably won’t be buffed to thieves level, but you also mentioned warriors. Anet has mentioned that warriors are where they want them to be, and we are nowhere close to warriors even if we go 100% glass cannon. If we spec glass cannon, with full berserkers, we (us and our pets combined) should be able to match the damage of a warrior who does the same.
Warrior’s ranged main burst comes from their unique class feature, just like we have our pets. You forget that if a warrior builds completely into rifle to pull out these numbers…first, it’s easy to avoid their “burst” in 1v1, and last, they have zero survavility…anyone can kill them.
Well, it’s obvious they won’t buff ranger to that level (not anytime soon) because it would become OP, it’s common sense. And if what thieves say is right, they are pretty much going to balance the game to make PvP last for a while instead of pressing two skills to kill someone.
They said where you could expect future changes for ranger class, none of them were about buffing ranger damage but to rework some traits/signets and spirits.
I could get a big surprise and maybe they go crazy and buff ranger damage, but if that’s not the case i won’t be dissapointed.
I’ve already posted about your screenshots Sdric, they are ridiculous and funny because there is no way that ranger has full berseker and power/crit traits (you said it was full berseker on the original thread) as i was doing crits on that boss for 1.5k+ (1.7-1.9k if i’m not wrong when having 20-25 sigil stacks) unbuffed, and the pet never died on that boss and hits much harder.
Not to mention you used two skills on the thief, nice try tho…but try harder.
If you used two skills on ranger you could have used either QZ+ barrage or QZ + RF and blow away your 8k by a mile (you can actually use both during QZ). RF alone on that weak boss did easily 14-16k, barrage does even more.
Also in PvE thief is quite bad, probably the worst or one of the worst classes. Thief is not really the best example to show how you beat a ranger in PvE.
About the warrior, that’s a proper example unlike your screenshots, but it has zero survivality with that kind of build and it’s mainly a burst every now and then, DPS wise it’s nothing a ranger should envy. It’s hard to tell in WvW, but they do have good DPS, tho the only thing i really envy is the proyectile speed.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
And what’s the point of having another 80 full of exotics with 100% map to do “serious PvP” when you can use a lvl 1 char to do “serious PvP”.
If you didn’t notice making a thief wasn’t the best choice looking at how they whine over the forums, they know the nerf bat is comming…and it will strike hard.
Thiefs, Guardians and warriors hardly will make more DPS than rangers in lupicus, the only comparable one is warriors. The rest are ranged classes, so what are you talking about anyways?
Ranger won’t have huge damage boost, if you don’t like the design then reroll to another class…easy fix.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
You fail to recognize no one said ranger doesn’t need fixes. It can have plenty of fixes without the need of boosting ranger damage to a ridiculous level…like giving our pets inmunity when we use dodge.
Sure, some classes have more block and stuff, but being at that much range it already nerfs their damage output for the most part.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
That new thread was pointless because devs made a thread themselfs saying what they would fix on 15th November.
To me ranger means the most fun and enjoyable class.
I don’t know what kind of dungeons make your pets die so fast, because i run cats most of the time and they don’t die that often. Even in Lupicus if you run two bears they can survive and “hold” the boss plenty of times…and yes they get sometimes one or two shotted…but the same happens with players.
The same goes for WvW, people says “Oh, pets are useless in WvW”, but you forget that all classes are pretty much stuck to being ranged for the most part, kittening their damage and utility as well.
Ranger needs fixes, but damage balance will most likely come in the form of nerfing other classes burst and not buffing ranger damage as people wants.
Unless you really love the skin or you absolutely hate PvE, you can get the same stats from Ascalon Catacombs (one of the easiest/fastest sets to get).
That set is mainly for a tanky build…a melee oriented build. I have one of these sets myself and being honest i’ve never used it. I guess people that run greatsword/tanky builds can really make use of it, other than that you won’t really need it imo.
Well, it’s no secret that rangers need some fixes and rework, but it’s also been said that changes will be made on 15th.
They can’t fix everything at the same time, and what may seem like a fix for someone, it’s a nerf for other classes. If ranger can do decently right now, imagine if they change it too much or make certain skills too good…it would change from “decent” to OP in a blink of eyes, that’s why i don’t expect any major change other than changing some traits, sightly buffing spirits and obviously fixing a bit the pets AI/skills cast time.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
The goal is to whine, people read whatever they want in order to make their point stronger.
Quote where i said ranger is the best at removing conditions.
Just because there are fewer rangers playing in competitive sPvP doesn’t mean they are “useless and underpowered”, it means they are harder to play. As long as ONE ranger is able to do well it means the class has the tools for it to be there, better or worse than other classes…but it has them.
If they removed the burst, what makes people think they are going to put it back and turn this game into a two shotting fest? The most obvious is they will nerf the big bursts in order to make PvP more enjoyable, i don’t think anyone likes a PvP that lasts 2 seconds…and if they plan on making competitive tournaments it’s quite normal that very high bursts will get nerfed and reworked in order to make it more balanced and fun to watch.
Everyone seems to whine about rangers burst, but how many classes actually have high burst damage?
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
If you’re talking about condition removal guardians have rangers topped on that. A lot of guardian skills put down a light combo field. A guardian with a mace can keep a light field with regeneration on the ground 50% of the time untraited. With the right traits a guardian can keep a large light field on the ground up almost constantly with near constant regen, retaliation, or both.
I never said rangers were the best at removing conditions.
Reading the posts instead of posting whines would help finding the answer, a tip…it’s bolded.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
Just because you don’t consider it a role doesn’t mean it’s not one, and a big one in sPvP. Roles are not just tank, DD and support.
Obviously in random matches vs randoms all you want is “pew pew” and do big numbers.
The AoE heal is not situational, it’s one of the best skills in sPvP because people actually have to stay inside circles a lot, and while the healing it’s crap all the classes have some sort of conditions.
I see rangers playing paid tournaments ranks 40-45+…that means competitive groups actually have an use for them.
I didn’t ignore the question, in fact i replied to it. I’m happy because i know they won’t change ranger basics at all, it will never have the kind of burst some people wants. We will probably see certain classes burst being nerfed, but ranger will never have it to that degree.
Some people just made the wrong class, if you want high burst there are other classes that can do it, where is the problem?
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
Balance can come in many ways, balance doesn’t mean they have to buff rangers into the same crap high burst classes do. In fact, thieves will get big burst nerf on the next patch, or so they say on their forums.
I’ll restate this. Find me a role that the Ranger does better than an other profession. One, legitimate, role that you’d whole-heartedly take a Ranger for.
I’ll tell you a good role for a PvP ranger, it’s probably the best finisher. You get quickness every 15 seconds if traited, and also QZ, coupled with it’s ability to stay alive and at the same time do decent damage, bringing an AoE condition removal which is pretty sweet when people stays inside a circle.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
I challenge you to find me a role in which the Ranger is better suited than another profession.
Why does it have to be “the best” at doing a role when it’s decent at doing multiple roles?
For example, people on rangers forum is always comparing it to thieves saying how good they are at everything…but then you go to the thieves forum and you only see whines saying how crap it is for PvE and dungeons…so who do you believe? Believe only on your own experience.
Ermmm…yeah the 2k was made up, and the 10k was also made up. Some classes hit harder than SB with autoattack, but they also hit much slower…we do 2 autoattacks per second so even if we hit for 700-1.5k per autoattack that’s still 1.5-3k per second, and that’s not counting the pet which is far from useless.
People still has in mind “big numbers”, big numbers mean nothing unless they kill you in one or two shots, and rangers can avoid that if you spec for it.
No matter what people says, DPS from all classes is sort of balanced, burst obviously is not. Obstructed ranged attacks problem spreads to all classes and not just rangers.
They are going to nerf thieves burst on the next patch most likely, just wait and see.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
15 points in beastmaster is very standard for PvE/Dungeons, 15 seconds pet swap is godly. The rest is up to you, i’m not a fan of condition builds as they do less DPS than power/crit builds, and when leveling/doing dungeons hitting from behind or the sides takes longer than killing the mob itself with a power/crit build.
The difference is some classes do 10k and then hit for 1k, and ranger does 2k all the time…see? DPS is the same, burst is not.
I believe when Anet balances the damage it’s based on the DPS, burst doesn’t matter much if over 15 seconds the damage is the same.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
Let me rephrase that for you “Rangers will never have skills that do more than 2000 damage instantly, just face it already people”
And that’s perfectly fine, not every class hits for 10k with skills as far as i know. PvP should take skill, and not simply smash your keyboard with your feet to kill your target. If any class can kill in a second or two then that’s a flaw of that class, the rest shouldn’t be buffed to match that.
So many rangers complain that warriors do this, thieves do that, but if you ever go to thieves forum they whine about them being bad in PvE, conclusion? All classes whine that they should do MORE.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
Honestly getting hit for 600-800 is normal if the ranger is using low DD pets, DD pets however can do a decent amount of damage (if they hit), even more if you trait for it and use certain buffs/signets.
DD pets hit harder than the ranger itself, but they hit less often (less attack speed, or not hitting at all if your target moves a lot), so these numbers are not crazy if they hit squishy builds.
And what is wrong with that? The point is that the ranger’s hardest hitting “burst” skill is SB auto-attack, thats how sad the class is.
Wrong, SB is not even out hardest hitting weapon, burst or DPS wise. And comparing burst damage to DPS is non sense.
Ranger will never have skills that do 8-15k instantly, just face it already…people shouldn’t keep trying to turn GW2 ranger into the typical archer because it will never happen.
What’s wrong with rangers? The answer would be…people’s mentality. They want to kill people in two shots before they even get to react like thiefs do to squishy builds. Funny thing is thiefs get stomped by any decent warrior, and honestly, no one should be able to kill in one or two seconds…i think that’s a big flaw of the game.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
Sdric, these screenshots from the Halloween dungeon making a comparison are simply lame and not real and it’s what make it fun to see when people complain.
First, you compared an autoattack with TWO skills, and second…you are not even counting the pet and on that boss the pet hits like a truck and pretty much never died against him.
Also the build counts, and the gear because 1k crits with shortbow on that boss…you were doing something wrong. Let me tell you that ranger didn’t have full berseker gear.
I was easily doing 4-5k DPS on that boss with sword (2k+ crits, two felines, quickness every 15 seconds and QZ).
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
For WvW in general i prefer longbow because you can do everything with it, obviously traited to have more range. It has everything you need, barrage does good damage and cripples, you have a knock-back in case someone gets close to you and rapid fire is somewhat decent.
Shortbow is more roaming oriented, and only if you know you are getting into close combat, otherwise longbow is still more usefull thanks to its range when traited.
It also depends completely on your build, longbow is not any good unless you run a glass cannon or semi glass cannon berseker build.
With your build the bleed damage you do is very low and not worth it to go melee. Axe is pretty decent on condition builds, semi useless on berseker builds.
I’d like to see that playstyle and build on a video vs true 80’s,
About entangle, it’s a good skill against people that doesn’t have a clue, once they realize they can kill the root with an autoattack or two it will barely stops them for a second…somewhat decent elite vs ranged classes as it takes them longer to kill the vines, completely useless against melee classes.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
I’d use healing spring. Many times the best thing for kitting is to remove conditions that make you slower/damage you over time/reduce your healing, and troll unguent will be somewhat useless for that.
QZ is devastating with any weapon other than SB. As for roaming groups…that’s “mini zerg”, you can pretty much use anything for that as most of the time your team will outnumber your enemy. You should try the axe solo roaming and see how it goes against true 80’s.
Using axe/hornbow mainly for the buff yeah, but other than that you will notice you are not really using the axe at all, skill 2 from range is like if you did nothing, the chill is decent but at the same time it’s “wasted”. You can use the horn buff when you see you start the fight and save yourself the trouble of switching in combat to have 10 seconds stuck with one of the worst weapons we have for that kind of build. Axe fits better in a condition build.
Fire trap is the one with the lowest cooldown…yes, and it still doesn’t make it any good dps wise compared to a power/crit build. It lasts 3 seconds, 12 seconds cooldown…there it goes 9 seconds of DPS waste for the most part as you won’t always be hitting from the sides or behind mobs in a dungeon so condition builds are not really optimal for that.
The reason i said their cooldown is “too high” is because you can’t spam traps and to be honest only fire trap makes “decent” damage. I’d prefer to run berseker set up and use slow traps to support the party instead, it makes it easier to “kite” certain packs of mobs or perma slow down champions, and for that you don’t need condition damage.
What does axe bring to WvW exactly? It’s the weapon that deals the lowest damage and has less utility than the rest of weapons ranger has. There is no reason to switch to axe when you are already using shortbow.
Also the hybrid build seems weird, mixing 3-4 different stats. The mixing of bersekers + power/vit/toughness i can understand, but the rest seems like a waste if you build around power/crit damage. Carrion/rampager weapons are a waste with that build imo, either get berseker ones or power/vit/toughness.
(edited by Sleepy.2647)
I don’t know, axe doesn’t really bring much honestly…yes you will slow them for 3 seconds but in those 3 seconds you are pretty much stuck with the axe that does quite low damage, if you wanted to run away there are better options.
Have you tried LB + QZ + Rapid Fire + Barrage? that’s a good burst in about 5 seconds.
Improve in which way? Higher dps? More survivality?
It really depends, i’d forget about condition builds for dungeons because traps cooldown is too high and you won’t always be in a good position to hit your target therefor decreasing your damage a lot.
Traps are good, slow ones, it helps when kitting certain packs of mobs so having skirmishing with 20-30 points is not a bad idea. It also increases your crit rate and crit damage.
If you want more survivality forget about carrion unless you run full condition build and get a few pieces with power/dur/toughness.
Jaguar stealth has a purpose, it increases crit ratio or so i’ve been told.
Imo, ranged pets are the most useless, mainly spiders (besides their root), they deal low damage and spiders simply die too fast.
Well, it would help to know what’s that build for. So far some stuff makes no sense like both weapon slots being axe+torch and then having arrows pierce targets, longbow/shortbow cooldown reduction traits.
The chance to bleed on critical hits is not that good unless you have full condition build, i would prefer pets do 30% more critical damage. For first marksmanship trait i’d use 10% extra damage when having full endurance, it’s a bigger boost than a buff that applies only when you reach 75% HP overall.
But as i said, it’s hard to give any recommendation unless you say what will you use the build for, PvE+dungeons, PvE leveling, sPvP, WvW…
It’s like 3 silver to respec in PvE, quite cheap (pretty much what it costs to travel somewhere at level 80). You do this through a class trainer.
