It was never about “breaking immersion”… some SJW-type complained that the female stretching animation was too sexy, and got it removed.
If that was the issue then they could have simply pulled that one animation from the list.
The issue is they switched from the old “cut scene” style dialog to in game dialog for story. So now they have this old system from before HoT that they aren’t using anymore so it’s now even less of a priority to “fix”. Since new work is never ending, old work simply piles up on the “when there’s time” pile.
Gosh, don’t go interrupting their paranoid ranting about their favorite enemy destroying their ability to kitten to their character in game with your “facts” and your “logic”. That’s just plain mean!
I hate even more how all human females have super-narrow shoulders, like all women were fragile barbie dolls. And don’t get me started about the anorexic body models, like women are either fat or anorexic, and if they aren’t then they must have strong body muscles and huge boobs and butts.
(facepalm)
These are some of the reasons why most of my characters are male.
…and boob shaped chestplates, OMG! “Yes, please, I’m totally suicidal and want to make it way more likely you damage my heart when you hit me, so make me something for that, armorer.”
Not, TBH, that the male animations and models are any less the sexual fantasies of stunted teens: those bulging muscles and giant packages, completely unlike what people in the real world want, but very much in line with what they imagine “pulls the chicks!”

Clockwork Watchknights spawn through them during the defend event. I wasn’t aware they stuck around forever, but it’s likely related to that.
I suspect it’s somewhere on the awkward line between “working as intended” and “really, really hard to fix”
Square-Enix buyout of GW2 confirmed: all items now scaled at Final Fantasy sizes.
Update: I just got the achievement. It seems that you have indeed to not only destroy the catapults but also defeat the Centaur Boss before he reaches Nolan’s Homestead.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that is the same for all three defense events — hold off the attackers and kill the world boss before it turns up to reinforce them. It’s just more annoying up north, especially because people don’t randomly hang out there so much, so smaller crowds…
Known issue, fix will be in the next patch.
I can’t say for sure, but that certainly sounds like the Justicar Hab pre-event to me, right down to “totally stomped”.
I think the queue limit is still 2 players, like it was during the season, so maybe that’s it?
It says the passive is to add health drain to all downed skills, which I wouldn’t be shocked to learn did proc those things. Technically, I think the activation is also going to heal you some, so … shrug
Also, if all else fails, know that they are account bound, so you can use them on two separate characters, just not both at once on the same character. So … worst case, you have a ring for an alt if you ever want one.
Yeah, if your entire OS restarts, that’s a sign that the OS is having some trouble.
It could be that GW2 is the only thing that pokes whatever bit of the system causes restarts, but that doesn’t mean GW2 is doing anything wrong, just that it happens to do something obscure that is normally fine … but breaks on your system.
If it isn’t the firewall or whatever on your machine, it’s somewhere between that and the ANet servers, blocking you specifically from communicating with them.
I’d push to recheck both the machine and network firewalls.
It doesn’t help you, but ANet are working actively on a newer, native, macOS client for GW2. It apparently runs the game minimally already, but is not at release quality, so expect an improvement in the next half or so…
Something is wrong with your hardware, and/or drivers. It may be that only GW2 happens to do whatever is required to trigger the bug, but it’s something in the system that’s not happy.
Note: unlike those other games you name, GW2 puts a lot more pressure on a single CPU core, so it could be marginal voltage on that, or memory, that doesn’t trigger when all cores are loaded, or a thermal issue that causes a hotspot to build up where more active cores don’t…
Yeah, well, the final advice I’d give is this: the “meta” builds are not required to clear raids, let alone anything short of that. So, while they can help, and they can be a guide to what is (seen, and frequently is) mechanically better … it may not be enough to matter compared to personal skill, and it may not even be enough after that.
So, play what you like. Once you find yourself having trouble, eg, killing things fast enough, or whatever, then start thinking about how to improve that.
don’t burden yourself trying to play a raid build in open world pve, for example, because those are optimised for “one target for a long time”, and can really suck when faced with “many targets, each dying fairly fast”.
I guess I say gimmicky because mesmer is suppose to be all about illusions yet they always seemed to die before you could properly build them up to shatter them(at least when I last played). So guardian does have a lot of build up stuff before you can actually do damage?
Yeah, in random PvE stuff — especially levelling — they feel pretty useless. It gets better later on, because things don’t die quite so fast, but … that explanation helps a lot!
Guard doesn’t have a “build and burn” cycle like illusions do, but it is heavily dependent on cooldowns and timing of skill use to survive — despite being a heavy armor class, their health pool is the size of an elementalist, so they are squishy if they don’t defend themselves well.
My guess was that your issue was more the “must use all sorts of utility and defensive skills a lot” rather than “hard to build/burn illusions for shatters”, so that’s not so applicable.
Guard, especially the 2H hammer build, feels “slow but heavy hitting” in combat, in my experience. Contrast ranger, which feels “lots of fast but weak attacks” to me. (Note: this is how I feel about their attacks, not necessarily the math of it.)
Ele, for reference, has a “fresh air” based build, which is a trait that resets the cooldown on air “mode” on crit, which involves lots of jumping back and forth, but it’s not the only build. You may find that unsatisfactory for the same reasons, but I’m not sure.
I think you would be happy with any of those choices though.
That’s an old-time bug from before the Lake Doric map was released.
Your character should (may?) get another one when it completes the new Lake Doric map.
Good luck.
Well, I got a completion chest from the new map, and I long since had the old map one, so … I think so. Count it as a lucky bonus map completion reward.
Just got HOT and created the new character, it is missing the revenant mistfire wolf from the special edition.
Thanks!
You should probably file a ticket with CS about this, since that is the only way to get an individual response to your issue.
Are you certain that you don’t have a 25% move speed boost by default?
Move speed increases (generally) don’t stack, you simply get the largest one, so you would see 125% default and 150% with the effect, if both were present?
Interestingly, over in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/ranger-pet-bug-not-unstowing-in-combat/first we noticed that if you enter combat while gliding, with your ranger pet stowed, it doesn’t come back automatically when you land.
I wonder it this is related.
The other possibility is that accessing the gem store (and trading post) is done via a web browser. You may need to allow GW2, or the “coherentui_host” process, to access the Internet for this to work.
I’d also suggest checking the sound options in-game, and seeing that you are using the correct output device, and the volume sliders and mute options are not selected.
Beyond that, it’s some local thing, so it’s really hard for us (or anet) to help you more. sorry.
I’ve participated twice in (failing) defense events up there. I’m not sure if it is more rare, or if there is some event-based trigger that makes it more likely (eg: killing, or failing to kill, some world boss, or something)
…but it runs, sometimes, and if succeeded should award completion. I’d suggest trying out more events, and looking specifically for the defense event, not liberation or other local events.
EDIT: and my patience was rewarded. after 1.5 hours hanging out, doing local stuff, we got an attack. focused on killing the boss, LFG-ed the thing, and it worked. I got the achievement complete.
So, not bugged, just painful to get done.
Oh, and learn from my mistake: don’t attack the siegemaster until he is OUT OF THE DANG CENTAUR COMPOUND!
(edited by SlippyCheeze.5483)
I opened a ticket about this and got a quick response. Its a known issue and is being investigated
Thank you so much for posting this, seeing as they won’t admit they messed up!
The forums are mostly for player to player support. If you ever want an individual response to anything, submit a support ticket for it. Occasionally ANet staff will comment here, and they definitely read the forums, but … it’s not where the respond.
Yeah, this is a super-annoying “UI” bug, in that it so looks like you will get mastery points, but you don’t. Sad.
It seems like the trigger is to be attacked while flying by a ranged enemy on the ground, possibly tied to moving a long way from them? Anyway, that’s the most reliable trigger, and once that happens the pet will not auto-pop even if I’m hit, etkittenil I get back out of combat at least once.

If you guys still having issue with the connection, try using VPN. It solved my issue with DC.
it works temporarily, but it is not convenient in the long run when you have other stuff downloading in the background that use up the VPN bandwidth allowed. ping is also higher.
other online games have proper routing and don’t need a VPN to have stable connection out of the box. Gw2 needs VPN to just not DC every 10 mins lately. why can other games not route through the Tier 3/Telia servers and why must NCsoft servers specifically route through there? there lies the probem.
what we hope is Anet to contact the networks involved to look into the issue, because Level 3 or Telia is the hop before reaching their NCsoft servers. our ISP is unable to solve the problem and we don’t have other choice of ISP. our report also carries little weight.
No no no. You got it wrong. It’s not ANET’s fault that your connection routing is going through some bad packet lost. It’s the fault of your ISP.
~Anet Carpet Cleaner.
It could be either, or neither, that is at fault. There are way more than just your ISP, and ANet’s hosting provider, involved in how traffic crosses the Internet. It’s more like a regional network of trains, run by different companies…
…and, in general, that’s absolutely the right set of stats to give to players who boosted to 80; they are mostly new, and so could really, really use some help not dying, especially if they plunge direct into HoT content with the hard-hitting mobs.
It was hilarious to see people get shut down like that, and it showed that ArenaNet does indeed investigate and take action on those verbal abuse reports.
Keep in mind that ArenaNet usually starts people out with a 1 – 3 day suspension at first (they might even get just a warning before that), and it may take up to a week or more between when you submit your report and when they have a chance to act on it.
I’m pretty sure they do take action. But their actions on specific incidents aren’t always immediate or visible to us.
Believe me, reports are read, and we have a team on board 24/7/365. That doesn’t guarantee that the team member will respond exactly as you desire, for they try to look at things objectively, and we tend to forgive an occasional “slip of the tongue.” Still, we do take action on offensive chat and will continue to do so, in the interests of keeping the game pleasant for everyone.
You also are welcome to send individual reports to the team. Best to include the exact day, time, and precise spelling of the offending player’s character or display name, to offer the most effective report.
I suggested this in another thread on the subject, Gayle, but one of the things I was surprised by in testing out FFXIV was that in their news they had a “report on actions taken”, which indicated the number of bans and suspensions that had been issued in the last month.
That didn’t have the whole “call out one individual” thing going on, but it certainly gave the sense of the scale they were working at. (IIRC, it was ~ 8.5k accounts blocked, and ~ 18.5k suspensions.)
Anyway, perhaps publishing stats like that on a regular basis would give the community some sense of how much action was undertaken, and we would see less “reports do nothing” conspiracy theories.
(ps: yes, I know I’m literally kitten for mentioning the competition. )
…yes, yes, I know, then it would be “conspiracy theory number two: the numbers in the report are made up!!!!11!”
In an emergency you could also contact support, and ask them very politely if you could please be moved to that server, in order to play with your friends.
While they are entirely free to say no, it isn’t unknown for that sort of request to be honored.
I think you would probably most like warrior, with my second guess being elementalist, because they have the least focus on “build and burst” in the way that mesmer does, and they don’t involve juggling the same volume of things that guard and mesmer do.
It’s really impossible to know, though, because it is all about you. (eg: I didn’t find mesmer gimmicky, so I’m just guessing about what made it seem like that to you…)
That was my thought: support condition classes. Druid is an obvious choice, with boons granted to party members boosting DPS, plenty of healing, and especially splash healing, and then wanting to contribute some DPS back.
Mesmer might also benefit, depending how well it fills the gaps in their needs; I’m pretty sure that at least some illusions benefit from precision and bring their own fury, condi is pretty common in mesmer, and spreading boons … is their thing.
Really, though, it’s unlikely to be “meta” at all, because enough players are absolutely convinced that only maximum DPS is ever the right answer, and this isn’t going to be maximum DPS, no utility or survivability, for anyone.
So, this may be useful: my experience in other MMOs, where I usually like the same subset of classes gameplay, was absolutely not useful for which classes I would enjoy in GW2.
Ranger itself is actually a bit more timing-dependent and picky than other classes, and tends to favor condition damage at higher levels, which actually makes it a bit more challenging than others.
You might find that necromancer is a better choice for “simple” gameplay, using power builds. I’d probably put Engineer, and Guardian, in the same “complex” tier, and Thief in simple play but a tendency to punish mistakes very harshly.
Finally, berserker or viper gear is the “meta”, but that is full glass cannon mode. You might consider not going there until y’all are a bit more familiar with gameplay (though while levelling you will have a mix of stuff, so…. yeah.)
It’s especially notable when you move from core tyria, to either HoT or LS maps — those have much, much harder hitting, and more skill use by, enemies. It’s kind of a brick wall of challenge for people who boost right to 80 and try them out, so playing through basic content, and using less-than-full-DPS-no-survival stats, can be quite valuable as you get your mind around things.
Queen Jennah has never worn shoes in her life! Clear evidence that this episode was planned out before launch!
Well, it’s not really a “lake” anymore. :P
(Because ANet doesn’t want to have underwater anything as a reminder that underwater skills especially Revenant are unfinished)
…as a reminder that underwater combat, especially the 3D positioning parts, are actually pretty terrible given the vision and movement controls of MMOs available today, so it’s not really much fun for anyone.
Fixed that for you.
You can fill out all the masteries, including raid masteries, without completing that particular point. You have a choice about which of the options you personally prefer to use.
So glad to have personal representation in game. #BarefootLife
Right now it seems like they have (most likely) a staff or greatsword skin, and the guardian greatsword animations. Though … I suspect that NPC assembly is not tied to the same rules as players are, so you could assign a suitably animated skin with any weapon skill combo…
btw, I haven’t heard anyone say it out loud yet, so I wondering about the pronounciation. Harati, Harafi, Harasi, Harafthi..
We can assume it’s mostly west-coast US pronunciation if they do nothing else, so it would most likely be:
Ha-Raaa-Thee
You don’t. Usually, MMOs don’t talk about enforcement either — but I was trying out FFXIV recently, and in their news they announced the number of actions taken in the last month. (~ 8k bans, and 18k punishments).
That might be a good thing to push anet for. It would at least give the sense that something was being done.
You can expect a similar model for additional legendary weapons, but I don’t know that you need to assume they are tied to living story releases.
For example, the HoT expansion maps all had individual map currencies; there is no reason that expansion II: the expansioning, which will likely have new maps, won’t have legendaries tied to the map currency.
(Also, that you must have a 1:1:1 relationship of map:currency:legendary for the model to work.)
Note: there have been recent discussions about using wine 2.0 with macOS to run the 64-bit client. You may want to consult those for advice on performance improvements.
gw2timer.com has these implemented using the API. I’m sure other web-based and app-based tools do the same.
So OP is ranting about his internet connection dropping out longer than the grace periods. OP can run the same even again 2 hours later and loot the remaining chests in this super extreme case .
If they came back several hours later, the next meta would be active, so they could loot a new set of chests, not the old ones.
Though, TBH, feels like “doctor, it hurts when I D/C like this”, “well, don’t do that then”, is the appropriate answer here.
FWIW, I learned that waypointing removes the ghostly effect from the omnomberry thing, and without that you can’t feed the ghost even if the food effect is still active.
So, IDK if that is why my first attempt with the strawberry ghost failed too, or not, but it’s certainly possible.
Anyway, eat the ghost food while standing next to the cat, then feed it.
Decisions to allow selling raid-only cosmetic rewards are often motivated by allowing raiders to turn their effort into $$$ by the dev team — especially when they have more than one of those already.
Check the dev tracker for details, but short version: known issue, you will need to do those hearts one more time after reset and it should be fixed.
This is a known issue, caused by the fixated player going down. A fix is in the works.
Quick Draw has a 9 second cooldown, and procs from any change to weapons, including picking up environmental kits, or changing into celestial avatar form.
Are you certain that you are not consuming the QD charge early with something like that?
I can say that I have not noticed any issues with a condi druid.
