Shouldn’t Mordremoth be easier to take down than Zhaitan? Zhaitan had a whole nation of corpses plus many ship crew to use from the beginning, spent 120 years to build its army and expand the territory, consume as much magic as it could. Mordremoth didn’t have such time and resources.

It’s not that difficult for them, honestly it’s probably more how they intended, but when someone is running a dungeon they’ve run a hundred times do they want to take 20s to kill each boss, or like 5s and move on? I don’t think anyone 5 man’s AC for fun anymore, they do it for the easy rewards.

Then the best way would be make new dungeon and give more reward to low level players for complete this dungeon.

I think it would be good to value both the journey and the rewards and not focus exclusively on the end result. The sub-80 you party with today, the sub-50 you teach the ropes, may become your new guildie or a valued fractal/dungeon partner in the future.

I take on board not everyone wants to go this route, but I think in the long run it can be quite rewarding in ways that are more valuable than gold and tokens.

I’d think you’d be surprised by this community and how open they are to helping people. But, there’s a big difference between “hey guys that know this stuff, could you please help/teach me?” and “The game should be changed so you guys have to help me!!!”

I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of a lot of help from the people on this subforum, and I’m very grateful for it.

Firstly, I have level 80 toons and I could run the dungeons well.
Secondly, why should a level 35+ dungeon let level 50-60 players have much difficulty?

It’s exactly like this. However most people are looking for efficient runs, and being uplevel means your dps is extremely low. The dungeon is easy even with uplevels; it’s just longer.

If a level 50-60 player could not run a 35+ dungeon efficiently, then how is it not a problem?

I done ac and have had a lvl 31 warrior in my group before npe and he was better then the lvl80 zerker…. why you might ask he stayed on his feet and kept killing things.

Remember a 7.5k ap thief complaining that we wiped on kholer he left when he died the second try and the rest of us completed that boss on 4.

Talked to him about it and his defence was well the rest of the group wasent zerkers so he couldent stay alive when boss started to attack back

At level 52 players have 4 trait points and pretty much never are geared to level. It’s not surprising people think you’re dragging down the party.

But it is a level 35+ dungeon, shouldn’kittens difficulty be based on level 35 players? If even a level 50+ player could not do it well, then level 35 would have a very hard time.

If Anet thinks this is a level 80 dungeon, why not set it to level 80 only?

It kinda depends on what you’re doing… and how long you take to type.

If you’re doing AC and join on a low level then nobody’s going to assume you’ll swap since it’s an introduction-type of a dungeon and lots of noobs tend to join them. If you join on a low level for one of the later dungeons like Arah, I think most people will wait at the very least a few seconds before kicking. Could be wrong but whatever.

Either way, people can do what they want. If they don’t wanna play with somebody then they should have every right to refuse them. Kicking somebody towards the end? That’s another thing and it’s pretty mean.

Actually AC was 35+, my character was 52.
Sure they can do, but maybe the game should make some change when a basic 35+ dungeon was filled with level 80s, even 50+ 60+ became “lowbies”.

it takes longer.

Try it yourself. use a low level character and do AC with other low levels. I did that for a good month. And it indeed take “much” longer.

hack, many new players dont’ even know where AC is. Many times I spend a good 15 minutes just waiting for some low level to find where the entrance of AC is. While a good experienced group of level80 can clear AC in 15 minutes.

Obviously if you are so good that you can solo AC fast, it wont’ take long to carry some low levels.

But if even AC was filled with 80 zerkers, how are the low level ppl going to find much fun in exp dungeon?? Wasn’t it designed mainly for level 35+? Even to lowbies, the best way is to switch in the end of the run to get the exp.

well you know, I spend a good month doing AC on my low level. And the party is always filled in a few minutes. So it’s not like those people should have a problem finding a group.

And the truth is many low level rage quit after a few wipes anyway. People are people. Many low level people only want a smooth run just like high level people.

Those low level people are the same people as high level people, they are just not level80 yet.

I dont’ like the system myself. Anet seems to think everyone should play with everyone. It’s just how they design their game.

Actually, I saw many 80s quit after a wipe when the rest of the run is totally fine.

well you know, that’s why I say people are people.

I prefer to change it some way, make some bosses easier for “lowbies”(Spider queen is even hard for 40-50+), and give lowbies(no more than 10 levels higher than the requirement) more bonus rewards.

Dungeons have always been content for lvl 80s. When i started playing i was only doing story mode dungeons on my first character until i got to lvl 80 and kept doing other stuff to lvl up. If you join a dungeon group on a low lvl character you are basically being carried. Now with the changes to traits and stats to new characters it is even worse.

If you want to lvl up your alt in dungeons just switch characters when the last boss is almost dead, that way you will be more useful and will stop leeching, or keep pugging with your alt but dont expect that full lvl 80 groups welcome you with open arms, run then with other lowbies too ^^

Though I think the shock of nearly being killed by 6 puny mortals – even having his mind overpowered by one, leading to his body being controlled by said one – would be a bigger shock to the system than any physical wound.

Likely. Yet an Elder Dragon doesn’t strike me as the sort to cower in a corner for seven years because its expectations were overturned. So, Slowpoke, coming out with superficial cuts, possibly some bruising (if anything had been broken or even sprained it seems unlikely he’d have been capable of launching himself back into the air), and an unpleasant surprise… I suspect Kralkatorrik is back in fighting form long since, if indeed he ever left it.

People seem to think he fled, but he accomplished his objective, and killed the ant that could mess around in his head in the bargain.

He might be the key to connect Tyria and Elona in story.

They better fix the pacing because it feels like those dragons, waiting gently in line, may take about next 15 years to be slain (if we assume that there will be an expansion every 3 years).

If World of Warcraft had followed similar cycle of development we would be stuck in the middle of Burning Crusade now, I guess.

I just can’t see the Dragons as expansions. Sorry, but poor lizards stuck in queue, which moves every couple years?

“Brave heroes! Tyria needs you again! Gather your children and let us chkitten which dragon will be the next! By the way, shoutouts to lizardy leftovers! Thank you for being gentle and doing absolutely nothing over the past 11 years!”

Hrrr……hrr……. I hope hybernation works legit…hrrr…

DSD was logical to be quiet, Primordus’ Destroyers seems to be less threatening than GW1 due to the dwarves’ effort. Kralkatorrik is still recovering from the wound. I think the only one should be killed ASAP is Jormag.

Maybe Kralatorrik would try to affect Elona through the desert.

They seem to be matching the Personal Story’s length of 8 due to the complaints about Season 1 being too long and drawn out. The issue is that the Personal Story was too short (imo at least).

And even then, we accomplished much more in any given PS chapter than in any of the S2 episodes we’ve had. Then, we always accomplished what it was we set out to do at the start, and while back then it led to a very compartmentalized story, S2 hasn’t given us any sense that we’re succeeding. At this point, if we do manage to beat Mordremoth it’ll feel almost like an accident.

Yeah, it lost focus really.

Zhaitan had a very organized army, so we have to counter the attack and dismantle the army piece by piece. Mordremoth is even simpler, we need to find its location and strike out. Because it could attack from anywhere, we can’t just try to defend.

Slowpokeking.8720

In the first half of Season 2, after Mordremoth’s awakening, it immediately became a huge threat. Its vines and minions were attacking from various places, destroying towns and waypoints, even tried to take down the leaders at World Summit. The last part of Dragon’s Reach2 was quite a big fight. It all looks like we must act fast and must strike against the dragon since it could attack anywhere.

But in the 2nd half of the story, we don’t feel the menace that much. More than half of the missions were spent on research and the egg, which we don’t even know how could it help. Even those research were not really related with HOW to defeat Mordremoth. We are not really making much progress. Ok we found a giant flower, very possibly part of the dragon was draining power, than what? How are we going to deal with it? Nothing? It was very disconnected. This episode made even less progress against Mordremoth until the end.

Quite a few cliffhangers in the first half weren’t even explained now. What were those crystals and the energy surge in the vision? How did Mordremoth know the summit. These were all unanswered when there was only 1 episode left .

Slowpokeking.8720

<Character name>: Destroyer queen. Dragon minions shouldn’t be able to reproduce. How is this possible?
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Two possibilities. Could be a creature that was pregnant when she was corrupted. Or this “queen” might be a kind of minion we’ve never seen before.

Obviously it’s just the PC’s own guess. Even Forgal Krensson was not very sure about it, he never said the minions could NOT reproduce, just saying that pregnant before corruption might be able to explain it. They also consider the Destroyer Queen to be able to reproduce.

Question about Glint.

in Lore

Posted by: Slowpokeking.8720

Slowpokeking.8720

  1. Do you see anything keeping Glint’s egg in stasis? Nope.
  2. You apparently don’t get the notion of what stasis is in this case – it means “it won’t hatch for an extended period of time”. So it doesn’t matter how long those branded eggs existed. Point is, that we’ve been told dragon minions cannot reproduce (and by this, I mean sexual reproduction – they cannot have kids) and this makes sense, what with innards being replaced by crystal, ice, fire, etc. or becoming rotten.
  3. No one ever said about eggs being ‘put back into their bodies’. The concept that you’re apparently incapable of comprehending is that they remained in the body from the point of corruption until laying them.
  4. Once more, NOTHING says that the Matriarch lays eggs. So… it rather proves that you don’t know what you’re talking about very well.

But talking to you, once more, is becoming like trying to talk to a pull-string doll. Pointless, aggravating, and gets no one anywhere. Since you refuse to comprehend what I’m talking about, being stuck by your own tunnel vision, again, I’ll cease this nonsense now.

Actually, from NPC who didn’t know the dragon minions well and made obvious mistake on the Destroyers. It’s not reliable at all. So the whole argument makes little sense.

It clearly stated its hatchlings.

Question about Glint.

in Lore

Posted by: Slowpokeking.8720

Slowpokeking.8720

  1. No, it’s not the same thing.
  2. Glint’s egg is in stasis, the others are likely similar. Skritt personal story says that only creatures pregnant upon corruption can lay eggs amongst dragon minions.

No, we don’t see the Risen/Branded have any stasis to keep them, they even lay the eggs out from themselves and hatch out spider hatchings to attack us. Do we see the Risen have a huge stasis for all the Risen Spiders and put the eggs back to their body when they were sent to fight? No. Actually the Risen Spiders are everywhere in Tyria, it’s not like they return to Orr often or build stasis near their residence.

That line said they’ve never seen something like the Destroyers Queen, but such Destroyer existed even in Gadd’s time, which proved they don’t know the dragon minions very well.

There are things to apreaciate in this patch.
The artwork is great as always for example. The sound is also great.

However the narrative is… well, still a checklist. Like they are still trying to hit certain points, but have trouble fitting them in.

For this episode the tasks seem to be:
- The way to Caithes secret.
- Faolain is a crazy kitten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111 oh and evil of course…
- Show some Sylvari fanservice
- Evil Asura.

However it needed (in my opinion) more than this. This is just one chain of events, maybe two or three days in Caithes life.
The result is that every character feels one dimensional.

With these flashbacks we could have taken a look at the birth of the Sylvari, how Faolain fall from grace, etc…

However we got naive Caithe and kitteny Faolaine with mommy issues (seems to be a common theme, looking at you Braham).

I am really torn here. It is not bad. It just comes (again) as a wasted opportunity and maybe it is simply because episode 5 was so “good” and now we end up with two “filler” in a row.

This is also pretty annoying with the finale next, which as it seems will be:
- We find Caithe and her secret.
- We get (not) to the egg in time
- The pact launches its attack (and is completly destroyed) (and kills the Mordrem creation plan )

I hate to say it, but Season 2, with all it`s high notes, seems to end up as nothing more than filler. I am about to say that Season 1, even with Scarlet, had much more bite to it.

I mean, how far did we even come so far? To be honest… even with all that “happened” we are not really that much further.
So far we only solved the mystery of the Master of Peace and are officially introduced to Mordremoth who is, where we knew he was.
The rest was mostly “character developement” and hijinks…

Yes, it is all needed, but we are slow, even slower than with Scarlet. However she had the positive side of that she actually did something.

So far our “antagonist” is just there, not very menancing. He is a danger, sure, but nothing feasable and the writing so far doesn`t make it out as something we should rush to, as we are just patroling along a danger zone.

I really hope we get a big announcment after the next release, because right now we know it will be a cliffhanger and you know what? I am so fed up with these kitten cliffhanger

How hard can it be to give us some closure?

Yeah, season 2, we never really make any achievement against Mordremoth. Just solving some stupid mystery and fight over a mysterious egg.

Question about Glint.

in Lore

Posted by: Slowpokeking.8720

Slowpokeking.8720

Slowpokeking, the difference is between organic egglaying and “creating an egg shape pod for artificial lifeforms to pop out of”.

Destroyers do the latter. They are physically incapable – like all dragon minions that aren’t corrupted pregnant creatures – to produce offspring.

Risen spiders/drakes do the former. Such is only possible because the creatures who lay said eggs were pregnant upon corruption.

The question is: which does Glint do?

And it is a very important question in Glint’s case, because if it’s the former then that means there was a dragon race with either dragons being asexual in childbearing or there was a dragon daddy somewhere in the past.

Because Destoyer themselves might not be organic, but other than this difference between them and the organic creatures, it’s the same thing.

Who said the Risen/branded were pregnant upon corruption? Kralkatorrik left years ago but there were still unhatched branded eggs.

Slowpokeking.8720

To be fair, that same page says (excluding the “biology” part):
to make a copy, representation, duplicate, or close imitation of:
That’s the kind of reproduction seen here.
But as for reproduction as a process minions can do, I’m going to go with no, they can not. In certain cases special or high ranking minions can create spawn from something that is not already a spawn (make destroyers out of rocks, make undead minions out of living…anythings) but can not within themselves replicate cells into a separate living entity and thrust it into the world. Some might carry or incubate said living entities for a time, but probably not reproduce them in a way biological things tend to do.

The Destroyer Queens do lay eggs, what does that differ from Glint lay her egg? The Risen Spiders also lay eggs and it could be turned into spider hatchling. Same with Branded Devourers.

Question about Glint.

in Lore

But the queen didn’t give birth to living creatures. This is what reproduction means.

Biology. to produce one or more other individuals of (a given kind of organism) by some process of generation or propagation, sexual or asexual.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/reproduce?s=t

Dragon minions do not reproduce – not in this concept – and neither does the Destroyer Queen.

What the Destroyer Queen did was create mobile incubators (what eggs effectively are) that ‘hatched’ into young destroyers (hence the term ‘hatchling’). But this is NOT reproduction.

What do you mean living creatures? The Destroyers are not made of flesh but that is reproduction.

Embers are not created by the Elder Dragons. Destroyers, are all the same species, they were not corrupted but directly shaped from lava and rocks. They just take different shapes to fight differently. It’s not like real crab/harpy/troll, they just adapt the form of these beings.

The quest made it clear:

Slowpokeking.8720

Yes, the Destroyer Queen – a very special champion – is capable of creating mobile oval incubation pods… that hatch crabs, trolls, and harpies. Not the same thing as an actual egg.

Creatures that produce real eggs are creatures that were pregnant upon corruption. Jeff Grubb, Ree Soesbee, and Scott McGough confirmed that there are not creatures corrupted into destroyers seen.

There were no egg-laying destroyers in Eye of the North. You are thinking of Destroyer Spawns – a ‘pod’ that spawned three destroyers each. Very different from eggs, since they were destroyers themselves.

The destroyer hapries/trolls/crabs are all the same thing, destroyer made of lava and rocks, they just took different forms.

No, I’m talking about Gadd’s lab, it had Destroyer Matriarch, which was pretty much the same version. So such Destroyers are not new species.

Unfortunately the story model you suggest doesn’t fit the MMORPG scenario.
For that devs not only need to add a story branch for every option but also make a story that makes sense for everyone and every NPC independent of what path/option you picked.
In MMOs the player character is usually only an important person among a mass of other really important NPCs against a problem, different from a single player RPG where you are the savior of the world.

SWTOR would disagree. It’s totally possible to not change the big direction but still have a lot of options. Especially the main storyline is pretty much single player instance.

By the time any brave Norn decided to see what had caused all the trouble, Drakkar could have been more concious, or even more attuned to the Norn mind after successfully infiltrating Svanir’s.

Svanir was corrupted because he accepted the offer.

An organized army should be able to take it down, they could just dig out its head and chop it off.

It didn’t turn people, Jormag was offering power to Svanir through this champion and he accepted, also it took a long process to turn him into the Nornbear. If people just refuse its offer and try to kill it, that’s going to be different.

Why didn't the Norn try to kill Drakkar?

I’m pretty positive you could see the giant creature under the lake in almost any graphic setting, so it was obviously supposed to be seen. And do we know for certain they didn’t try to kill it and fail? As Konig mentioned, digging it out of the ice would have surely led to corruption. And the Norn avoiding the area was a large factor, sure, but very un-Norn like. I think it’s likely that the area being “cursed” kept away the common Norn rabble most of the time, but a mysterious powerful entity would probably just seem like a challenge to the more adventurous ones. I think it’s more likely that some Norn would have certainly tried to kill it, but failed. Something like Drakkar would take the cooperation of pretty much every Norn in the known Shiverpeaks and probably some other species to permanently kill, but that sort of cooperation is not the Norn way. The small hunting parties that probably went to investigate this mysterious lake entity probably became the few corrupted Konig mentioned.

Short version: They probably DID try to kill it at least once or a few times, but failed.
You just don’t hear about it because history commonly only mentions SUCCESSFUL ventures, not failures.

How is digging it out going to corrupt people? The Dragonspawn had such power because it was the greatest champion of Jormag. Also at that time, Jormag had already awoke and was very strong.

As the EOTN storyline showed the norn just didn’t approach threats that way.

They didn’t destroy something simply because it could be a threat. Even the ones who agreed that the Great Destroyer was threatening the entire North (and potentially all of Tyria) wouldn’t help fight it unless it had done something to harm or offend them personally, or they wanted the glory of taking it down.

When Jora sought help with fighting the Nornbear, or even simply tracking it, she was looked down on as being weak for needing help. Even those who defended her did it by making excuses – she’s a warrior, tracking prey isn’t her role, she can’t become the bear so she can’t fight with the full strength of a norn etc.

I get the impression that’s changed somewhat over time, at least for the norn who came south. I suspect it’s a combination of having to band together to survive and make the trip and integrating with the other races societies but they seem more willing to work together. They seem to acknowledge that when (not if) they go after Jormag it’s going to be a group effort.

But the focus is still on individuals rather than groups. They might choose to work together, but it’s something each individual decides for themselves on a case-by-case basis. So unless the threat from Drakkar was evident and immediate to a lot of norn, or someone went around and persuaded several hundred of them to go after it, it just wouldn’t happen.

Yes, not just because Jormag was so powerful, I think also because the pride probably caused many Norn to listen to Jormag’s whisper since he promised them with power.

With Jormag still lack of power to rise, I don’t think Drakkar could turn people’s mind that easily. Even Svanir was corrupted by Jormag through it. Sure it would have been hard to kill but not impossible. The Norn are brave enough to take a challenge.

“Zhaitan’s will/power took them over” means that the Risen’s minds were corrupted…

Do they even have mind since they are actually corpses? Many Risen are just “mindless”, they don’t possess intelligence and were just driven by Zhaitan’s will.

Yeah, I don’t understand them for giving the Sons of Svanir a place in their city.

Since Jormage was still gathering power, I think Drakkar shouldn’t be as hard to kill as the Dragonspawn. It couldn’t even turn Jora, Jeff Grubb also mentioned something like that.
