ANET can't create good story final boss fight

Their are good Storyline bosses out there and good non/secondary story bosses too.

While the quest/zone clear part of WoC in GW1 was tedious and dull, I enjoyed the storyline and Minister Reiko(she should be a stronghold champ) is one of my favorite storyline bosses of GW1. Dhuum, Mallynx and other low story/non storyline backed up Bosses are pretty great, they just aren’t in the main storyline. Same with GW2. They could be, but they’re not

With that said, I think they are very capable of making a good main storyline boss fight, they just screw up with execution and timeframes to complete their work.

Zhaitan wasn’t a completed fight and would have been much better if they had that time to make it versus, ermagaawsh its so freakin big, BOOOM, smashes through several airships “AAAHHHHH oh laser on switch” PHHZZZZ dead. We all know he should of just hugged the main ship and we’d be screwed. I kind of like the idea of being an undead Pact Commander. If the dragon order was the other way around, Mordy would of just taken the laser to his tree face and Zhaitan’s dragons would of flown from above and taken out the Pact.

PS its Magitech nonsense>stupid dragon staring down the barrel nonsense. Anything and anyone that’s remotely powerful in Tyria is backed by magic typically.

I don’t get why did they spend so much effort to let us fight what we had already fought instead of focusing on Zhaitan, they blew it themselves.

The problem with solo content is that it has to balanced around someone. The entire instance takes about 10 minutes as a zerker and can range from deadly to trivial depending on profession.

Not for me, thanks to the bugs, it took me many tries, even with a group you could get owned by the bugs.

Not too easy or too hard?

And there’s the hitch. Too easy or too hard for who?

I think it should be overall easy on game mechanic, but show us how powerful the boss is as well.

In GW1, the Lich was a pushoff, the hard part was the Titans. Abaddon was way too easy, Great Destroyer was fine. Shiro probably was the best final boss encounter.

In GW2, both Zhaitan and Mordremoth encounter sucks. Zhaitan was joke and Mordemoth encounter was filled with bugs, it was also too long and boring.

Can we get a better encounter for the next dragon? Not too easy or too hard or too buggy?

Zhaitan was able to pull spirits out of the Underworld and infuse them into Risen champions, such as the Eyes of Zhaitan and the corrupted priests. Grenth was not happy about this. (This is a plot point in the Grenth cathedral personal story instance.)

Regarding the Cataclysm… it was a feature of the Cataclysm even in GW1’s time that the people of Orr were made into undead by the Cataclysm. The bodies were still around when Zhaitan rose because they were either buried and preserved (the older kings, queens and princes that Zhaitan corrupted) or were already walking around as undead when Zhaitan awoke.

We don’t see him do that, if he could do that why does he need to bring corpse to make new Risen? We don’t see him doing the same thing as Shiro in GW1.

Yes, a few got turned into undead, but that’s closely after the nation’s destruction. Most of them are gone with the explosion and the 100 years decaying.

How could the bodies be still there if the nation was blown out and not rot after 100 years underwater? It makes 0 sense.

What kind of structural damage would you expect from a sudden burst of (magical) flames? Are you saying the sinking of an entire peninsula, comparable to an apocalyptic earthquake, is less likely to produce structural damage than some flames? And regarding the bodies the real question is: why there would not be remnants of the bodies, especially given the high amount of orrian risen seen deep in Orr (think about the various orrian nobles we encounter)? By the way the Cataclysm happened 258 years ago.

If it could sink Orr, then the buildings should be all badly damaged.

Because they would all be vaporized and rot into nothing before Zhaitan’s Rise.

If anything it’s the Trees (like the physical Pale Tree) that may come from Mordremoth, the sylvari seem to spawn from the Dream (this gets out of topic, I explored this in another thread) and aren’t corrupted by Mordremoth when they’re born, not even Malyck was (who’s unconnected to the Pale Tree nor protected by it).
Don’t undervalue the plants, but I can think of a couple: the mordrem wolves and trolls. Anyway, every mordrem must be corrupted by Mordremoth before it can go through the cloning process.

They were dragon creations, it’s very clear since it was revealed. They weren’t “corrupted” but born to be dragon minions.

That’s an early concept art for something that’s not even been implemented in game yet nor does it have a clear description of how it looks, and honestly will resemble those serpentine creatures just if you really want it to.
Ultimately they really don’t resemble dragons, but to each their own.

It could be a possibility that the 2 are connected.

All the structural damages we see are a consequence of the sunking.
I’m not saying the Foefire and the Cataclysm are the same thing, I’m just suggesting that coming both from orrian artifacts some characteristics might be shared (for example, the blue flames are), specifically the binding to Tyria of the invested souls.

What? You mean the buildings are immune to the fire explosion? If the sunking could even damage the buildings that much, why would the bodies still be there after 100 years?

Again… the sylvari are unique creatures, their link to the Dream grants them a resistance to the dragon’s mind, but like every other creature when fully subjugated they’ll stay like that even after the dragon’s death (at least not until their minds get cleansed, like what happened with Twitchy, the purified undead chicken).

What every other creatures? Other than some plant, they were nothing but clones, they were not corrupted, but created directly by the dragon. Even Sylvari was not “corrupted”, they were dragon creations.

I really don’t see how those creatures can be envisioned as dragons. If anything they resemble marine serpents and it would make sense, since Abaddon was the god of Water.

They are and they resemble to DSD’s early concept a lot.

The Cataclysm didn’t act like an atomic bomb, we can witness the Vizier’s tower itself still being up anyway. Regarding the spirits still being linked to their bodies, I think what happened is similar in a way to what happened with the Foefire (which, by the way, was also caused by orrian magic): the souls invested by the Cataclysm were constrained on Tyria.

But it did, Vizier and his tower might be still there due to them being in the central of the ritual. All the other buildings were very badly damaged.

Foefire was totally different than Cataclysm, it destroyed their bodies into dust but left their soul as ghost, which didn’t happen to Orr at all. Why would their bodies and soul still be there 100 years after the ritual? It makes little sense at all.

You quoted me before I was able to modify my sentence, since I noticed it could’ve been misinterpreted. Once a mind is subjugated it will remain so even after the dragon’s death. And again, the sylvari are a pretty unique case and the Mordrem guards you are mentioning where still struggling, not yet completely subjugated by the dragon.

That’s not what happened with Mordremoth, according to that guy, Mordremoth control them and gave direct order to them. Without his influence, that guy regained his mind, he made clear that “He wanted to obey”, which mean it was the dragon giving order to them, but without the dragon, what to obey?

No idea what you’re talking about.

Abaddon had water formed dragon with him in the pics, the other gods didn’t.

Not likely, Mordrem Guards could even break Mordremoth’ control for a while.

First off, the Cataclysm didn’t “blow up” Orr, it made it sink.
The remains of Reza’s body were still there, in Azabe Qabar, we know Zhaitan corrupted the body. And of course King Reza has a mind, it’s the mind, which projects itself as a spirit, that travels through the various Realms once the mortal body dies. Most likely Reza’s spirit was still confined to Tyria, still linked to its body.

He stole it from Arah, taking it to his tower, and there, unleashed its might upon the land. With a flash of light and explosion of flame the nation of Orr crumbled and was lost into the depths of the sea.

If the power was strong enough to sink the continent, there is no way flesh bodies could not being vaporized into dust. King Raza had been dead for more than 100 years when Zhaitan awoke, why would his soul still be there rather than went to the Underworld?

The whisper you are thinking about regards the singular relationship with the sylvari: the dragon slowly torments sylvari’s minds (by the way, sylvari are in a sense already imbued with plant and mind magic) until they’re weakened enough to fall to the dragon.
And of course Mordrem remain under control following Mordremoth’s death, we know that.

Under whose control? The dragon is dead.

In one of the quests, a Mordrem guard would tell you he was always there, but could not control.

Really? The presence of serpentine creatures in those representations is a sign of Abaddon being influenced by the DSD? With this reasoning Melandru was influenced by Mordremoth because half of her body is made of “plants” (or even Balthazar being influenced by Primordus because he’s surrounded by flames). Doesn’t make sense.

But no dragon was present on any of their transformation. Abaddon himself don’t use serpent creatures as minions as well.

In theory, any could, using the Inquest’s methods.

But they still spread corruption, and create new minions which would not be under control until those devices that allowed the Inquest to control them are placed on them (all Dominated Risen have asuran devices implanted onto them).

It would be really hard to control the whole, and the goal is to be rid of the dragon corruption entirely.

It’s like saying “we have seized an enemy’s nuclear warhead, so can we use it against the remaining enemies?”

Sure, you can. But you sure as hell don’t want to – unless you have no care for the landscape being usable for hundreds of years.

The dragon is dead, no corruption would be spread out.

I don’t think all dragons corrupt beings in the same way.

King Reza shouldn’t have got any “mind” cause he’s long dead, he shouldn’t even have his body due to the Cataclysm had blown even the entire Orr underwater. He should have been in the Underworld for a long while like many Orr people. Zhaitan pretty much “animated” him back. From those Norn crew we can see Zhaitan might not corrupt soul, it just corrupt the body and gave them the previous intelligence and memory.

Mordremoth control his minions with whisper, they knew what they were doing but could not help. I doubt they would remain under any control once it’s dead. None of its champions have any “chain of command”.

I don’t know if we were caught that off-guard for Mordremoth’s attack. His initial attack, where he destroyed some waypoints and spread his vines across Tyria? Yes, that was a surprise attack, but we couldn’t have done anything to stop that. The assault into the jungle? Knowing sylvari with dragon minions wouldn’t have stopped the vines knocking the airships out of the sky. At best, it would’ve minimized the damage suffered after the initial attack.

Plus, we weren’t going in completely blind. The Durmand Priory had a scroll with the names of all the Elder Dragons (except the sea dragon’s part got very (and conveniently) damaged) and a bit of details about them. While it might not be a list of all the weaknesses of the dragon, it did prepare us for what was to come. Sadly, I’m pretty sure Trahearne’s sacrifice at the end of the main story was an inevitability. Without a sylvari bound to him, one who was strong-willed yet too entangled to resist, it was either him or Caithe, and Caithe is far too loved (by ArenaNet) to die just yet. Plus there was the whole killing Faolain thing and you know what I’m just rambling now I’ll be going OK bye.

Knowing it could attack the ships would not let the Pact try to assault it with just air force.

The strike is ongoing, but only companies like Activision, EA, Disney and Warner Bros are affected because they make the most money, but pay the least. The strike is limited to these companies because these companies are the demons in this case. there is no value in striking in the small companies or other companies where wages are fine.

I read somewhere else that blizzard voice actors are paid pretty well (relatively)

Arthas’ voice actor dropped it in WOW because the payment was low.

The last time I played around in there DoA solo was doable but pretty difficult. The main thing is just making sure you have all of the right heroes with all of the right builds (and patience).

When I left years ago ,I could do the other 3 with some patience. Just Foundry was too hard and I guess Mallyx would not be easier.

So I thought about Aurene for a bit. The way she looks she is obviously a combination of Kralkatorrik’s crystaly goodness (the crystal spikes on the back) and Mordy’s planttastic features (the barky skin, the MoM looking face). Now the last part comes from her absorbing part of Mordy’s magic when he died.
Maybe Glint’s other scion, Gleam absorbed part of Zhaitan’s magic when he died? Considering Glint’s forsight it would make sense for her to plan on giving him a role in those whole thing (which is also why she so fiercly protected him and her other eggs, it was more than mother instinct). We could get a half-zombie half-glint-look-a-like Gleam in a future LS update. Wouldn’t that be something.

Maybe Gleam had already been turned into someone’s champion, mostly Kralkatorrik.

I’m definitely curious to see what comes out of this discovery. Is it possible that certain forms of magic are “anathema” to certain Elder Dragons? Maybe the EDs are capable of filtering magic when they draw it from a ley line like the Chak do, so that they aren’t hurt by absorbing their anathema magic that way. But that wouldn’t necessarily prevent us from targeting them directly with their anathema magic…

Alternatively, could we replicate the filtering effect on a larger scale to block Primordus’ Fire magic from getting transferred to the other Dragons when we kill him?

This makes me wonder something as well… Killing Zhaitan transferred Death magic to the other dragons, and killing Mordy transferred Plant magic to the other dragons. But Zhaitan was also the Dragon of Shadow, and Mordy was also the Dragon of Mind. Are those other aspects reflected in the prism? Is Primordus now a Fire-Death-Plant Dragon, or is he a Fire-Death-Shadow-Plant-Mind Dragon?

Actually, I don’t believe Taimi’s idea.

Mordremoth’ blight clones got nothing to do with death magic, it could be used on living thing as well.

No it won’t, like the gerent after patch, it could let people spread out to help if one lane is doing too bad.

Try stacking an entire map at a tower. It doesn’t work.

They don’t have to do it, just finish one tower and wait for others and help if some other lane is needed.

Which was why I singled that map as being different than the others. Read the bolded.

Running around was just the tactic created by a guild when they first completed meta event. It’s not the tactic that the map was designed for. Having the tower boss not being able to regenerate promotes players being able just zerg each tower which is something that a large percentage of the playerbase complained about with LS1 events.

So it’s better to let people keep running and doing the same thing for 10 mins 20 mins or even more and doesn’t allow one mistake?

Dragon Stand really could use some change

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Slowpokeking.8720

It’s not a broken system. That entire map relies on a substantial number of players working together in each lane. That is how that particular map was designed. Just because you don’t like that doesn’t mean that is is broken. Especially if any issues are coming from the players themselves where they leave maps with no commander tags and so on.

LFG is very much an adequate solution to you problem. You lack the people. LFG is used to bring players onto maps. This is what we have been doing since megaservers. Also, because you disagree with it doesn’t mean that the response was lazy and flippant.

None of the other maps are like that, and the tower event is boring, it should work like other maps, when you shut down the tower and kill the boss, you can go help others rather than keep running all the way doing the same thing.

Of course it is a game, you’ll never hear me saying otherwise; but there is a big difference between players who commit to the tasks at hand, and do what is required for the event to succeed, and those who either go AFK (usually in the most crucial part, the towers), or don’t even read the squad/map chat for instructions doing exactly the opposite of what their squad leader has asked them to.

But this is open map and you don’t get to pick ppl, the event itself is long enough, I don’t see why should the blight tower event be so repetitive.

I think that is up to Anet to decide.

I don’t think DS is hard, mostly too long and annoying.

I’ve been on maps that have completed it in under an hour. The amount of time that it takes falls onto the quality of players that you have and also the number. Contrary to popular belief, the events do actually scale down fairly well and I seem to remember being able to apply swiftness to the NPC’s.

The only exception comes to the blighting towers where you “may” need a full map. I added the quotation marks as the likely intended mechanic for the towers hasn’t actually been done or at least I haven’t seen anyone ever post about it. That mechanic could mean that you don’t need a full map. Just a theory though.

1 hour is still too long and it doesn’t happen often, most of the good ones finish in 1 hour +20-30 mins

Also it’s hard to get in the only good map sometimes.

It is players and squad Commanders responsible for finishing the event fast, or drag it forever. It’s not the event mechanics “faulty” but players’ ability to do their job efficiently and timely.

Last evening I was in a map who finished the event, including Mordy’s death, in approximately 45 minutes. It was the fastest and more efficient DS map I have ever played. They were no accidents, no delays, no respawns and, most importantly, no AFKers.

The mechanic affected pugs, it was boring to keep running and 1 mistake gg.

So what? You can’t decide what kind of player would you meet. And it’s not just about difficulty, it’s basically punishing players for killing the boss early if they can’t keep the run up.

- not sure about the blighting towers itself. I find the event boring and exhausting myself (as commander). But having the boss respawn only if all 3 collectors are reactivated would make it a bit too easy. If you nerf something too much, people will stop paying attention and will start feeling invincible. Kinda dislike such a mentality. Best to keep them on their toes.

But Boss immediately respawn at 100% is too much, it should take some time and not at full HP.

The tower event is horribly boring IMO. At best, you end up in a good map and run in a circle for several minutes, killing boring mobs, when a single mistake you can’t do anything about can cause the whole thing to fail. At worst, you realize one of the lanes is full of players who don’t read the chat and can’t organize, so you fail. The entire event being based around infinite spawns and unintuitive mechanics doesn’t help.

Tarir’s meta is the same thing, but much better, because once you’ve done your job, you can wait for the others to finish instead of repeating it ad nauseam.

Yeah, it would be much better if the boss does not spawn immediately back if one of the pods go back.

Adds to the challenge, people need to work together to beat the bosses. There was harsh player criticism that most fights in GW2 were a zerg fest (before HoT) with little penalties.

So it’s better to not kill the boss rather than kill it fast when others have not done?

It’s a 90 mins-2 hours event, I don’t think part of it should be that annoying.
