Well music can define you as a person, it can also connect with your moral grounds and opinions. Actually alot of music is like that.

For instance, if a band completely turned their view in the opposite direction and did it under the same name I think many people would get extremly mad. For instance a black metal band suddenly decide to make white metal instead under the same band name would probably cause a riot among their fans.

Anets change however isnt anywhere close to something as extreme as that and games are usually not an expression of views and opinions on the real world, so I dont see what people feel has been done so wrongly by Anet. They’ve made a great game.

The only wrong turn taken by Anet imo is the alt-unfriendlyness being showered over us altoholics each patch.

There is plenty to do, just not too much so you feel suffocated.

Currently 6 pieces of ascended gear has been released. Cloak, Accessories, Rings, Neck. They are all obtained in different ways, some of them can be obtained in more than one way.

There is probably more end game in GW2 than there is in WoW, unless raids is your only idea of end game. Plenty of 5 man dungeons aswell as the fractal dungeons, revamped world boss fights that are quite fun aswell as the never ending end game that is WvW.

It’s easy to do “well” when you charge zero monthly subscription to play the game, whereas your competitor is charging $15/month. People are going to play this game because it’s free, even if it wasn’t a good game. The question is how “well” the company is doing when they have $0 from subscriptions and their competitor is getting tens of millions $$$$$$ of dollars each month from subscriptions.

Try hundreds of millions of $ per month in WoWs case. No idea what the current player base is for WoW, but between 6-7 mill still. 7 mill subs = 105 mill $/month.

And you dont need to wonder how well Anet is doing, apparently they did well enough with GW1 to spend money on doing GW2. So I’m pretty sure they arent losing money. Sub based games is a dinosaur in gaming, it’s outdated and needs a mercy shot in the back of the neck.

Even a so gimmicky and die hard fan centered game as Star Trek Online is doing very well, well enough to release an expansion very very soon. It has also become free to play, but there are players everywhere. But then again, they made the smart choice at start, with 1 single server with instances (overflows). Same as GW2, not an insane amount of servers like SWToR and Rift had. GW2 never went live with the expectations to get 8 mill subs, SWToR and Rift on the otherhand did.

I can safely say, the two most enjoyable MMOs currently on the market are STO and GW2 imo. Free to play so you dont feel forced to play either or, both have some of the best combat systems I can imagine and both have a healthy amount of people to play with everywhere. Something not even WoW can beat with its ghost town zones all the way up to max level, WoW the game that needs x-server lfg.

The races of GW2 -- Elves, dummies!

Most of you missed my point anyway. This wasn’t so much a diss of GW2, I was just trying to start a discussion about what makes certain games such a big hit with a mainstream audience. Those are the people you need to reach if you want a blockbuster hit like WoW.

EQ had the beautiful female elf on its box. WoW also had a female elf on its box. That stuff sells. Most of the general public are not as imaginative and nerdy as you folks here, they just want stuff that they know and can easily identify with, like elves and dwarves.

There is no point reaching those people and becoming a “blockbuster hit like WoW”. Anet doesnt have the need, since the game isnt sub based, so their income isnt based on how many players they have in the same way as Blizz.

With 8000000 subs, Blizz pulls in $120000000/month. They must remain mainstream to keep their cash flow, so they need to add all the silly fluff to saticefy the playerbase. I wouldnt be suprised if they introduce sparkly vampires soon in WoW in a serious non-easter egg kinda way to attract even a younger audience. They’ve already broken the lore on several occassions.

GW2 is popular enough, servers have enough population without them having to add more servers or more hardware, so keep their costs balanced. That means they dont need a silly amount of income generated from the players, except that which we are willing to pay ourselves.

I currently started to play STO (Star Trek Online) again after a 2-3 year hold. The game is now free to play and is filled with people. They’ve gone from the sub version to an optional sub version. You can either pay monthly for gold membership or just use the item shop, which can be fully used without spending one single real life coin on it. They’ve still managed to add content and polish the game.

More and more games have a better success as free games and dont require mainstream WoW numbers to survive, because they fill a role in the MMO genre.

We really dont need elves in this game, since they are already there basically in the form of humans, or in the mythological sense they are there int he shape of sylvari and asura. Adding elves would break the lore.

And if you really want elves, Neverwinter online is around the corner. You can even make your own Foundry content too so you can get all dirty with your elves.

When people say elf they most often mean Tolkien elves. When in reality it’s a modernization of elves.

Elves were a bunch of different things. You infact have elves in GW2, in the shape of the asura and sylvari. Both fit in the mythological spectrum that is the elf.

I dont see any problems regarding immersion and the S.A.B. GW2 is one stretch beyond steampunk fantasy. It’s has dragons like most high fantasy setting, but it lacks orcs and elves, it’s has gunpowder weapons, flamethrowers and lasers.

It’s a science-fantasy MMO with high fantasy aspects. S.A.B fits right in the way it is. 250 years have passed since GW1, alot can happen in 250 years, just look at where our own world was 250 years ago.

Boss chest = 1 time per character, per day, per boss.

Bonus chest (dancing one over your minimap) = 1 time per day, per boss.

No, boss chest, big one everyone loots from is 1 time per character per day, per boss.

Bonus chest is 1 time per day per account, regardless of which boss you do or what character you use. You’ll only get the bonus chest (that shakes like the daily in the bottom right corner) once per day per account not per boss.

No I know what I’m talking about regarding this and what I said is how it works. It’s just that simple.

There is just really one place in one game Anet needs to take a look at and then do their own, more open world version of it.

Darkness Falls in DaoC. It was the perfect, most fun PvP area outside the frontier RvR. A huge raid dungeon, open for everyone from the faction that held this and that thing, tons of evil do-badders you could farm and tons of PvP when fighting those that took it over or when you got it taken from you.

This could easily be implemented in one or more open world WvW enabled zones. Shouldnt be tied to what you own in WvW, but pure open zones. And since there would be no keeps to take, there wouldnt have to be a queue, just an overflow like regular zones. That way they could max the amount of players at a good number to not make it too crowded.

SneakyErvin.3056

People here have a very narrowminded view of OWPVP. It’s not about the ganking and making the life misserable for others, atleast not to everyone. There are a few rotten eggs.

WvW is not comparable to OWPVP. Too much zerging mentality, and at the core, sadly poorly designed for lesser skirmishes. It gets better patch by patch, promoting lesser zergs, but its still zergs. Since the zones are very small it doesnt get the same feel that DaoC had for instance.

This game however isnt designed with PvP in mind in the open world, so it wouldnt work in its current state.

My suggestion, as I’ve suggested in similar threads before would be to implement WvW based PvE zones in the future, where the 3 servers pitted against eachother share some events and hearts. It should be an optional leveling zone with a similar pure PvE version zone for those that want a safe leveling experience.

Way more than needed, as i think GW2 is still a 32-bit program and so can’t handle more than 4GB of ram.

Exactly this and 1GB ram on the GPU is also more than enough. You really dont need more than 1GB on your GPU since only a select few games out there will use more if its available and those arent MMOs.

Well I guess some wouldnt be happy and I’m fairly sure some people didnt even read my original post, but jumped the gun and answered out of the blue.

There are a few drawbacks, like the dyes and loadstones, but the market would solve that by lowered demand and price due to more being available.

I’m also not saying my system would be optimal. But it would sure be nice to be able to work on more than one character at a time. It would also bring more to do for us altoholics.

It would still be optional. I probably wouldnt do dailies on all my characters each day, but maybe work on a few of them.

No matter how you look at it, it would be faster for altoholics to gear up alts along side a main compared to how it is now.

This is also just an idea I would like to see devs work with, something to open up the alt gearing a bit more. Right now the laurel system is horrible IMO.

Guild Bounty training mission is there for you to get influence so you can reach AoW5 a bit faster if you dont have it, so you can unlock regular Guild Bounty.

If you can handle the mark in the training version with your guild you should be able to kill 1 out of 2 marks in the regular guild bounty and earn the commendations. You might lack people to find both marks, although you really only need to use one person to find number two while you kill number one.

Just a little suggestion here from a person that enjoy alts.

Why not make dailies doable with each character and turn laurels into soulbound items? Just make Karma Jugs a once per day/account reward on the first daily you do.

This would ease up some of the restrictions thats currently there while playing alts. It would give no advantage over those with 1 character, since laurels would be soulbound so you couldnt hoard it with 10 characters per day to provide for your “main”.

All you would need to do to make sure it wouldnt get abused would be to make any “character enhancing item” i.e ascended items and such souldbound on aquire if obtained from the vendor. This way laurels would be soulbound aswell as the non vanity items you can obtain with them.

Altoholics would be happy and those with just one toon wouldnt notice a differance.

Nothing besides maybe story mode dungeon completion for the sake of starting exploration runs.

Only change I’d like to see otherwise for a more alt friendly game would be making the daily/monthly doable on each character you have. Just make sure the karma jug is only rewarded once per day per account, make laurels soulbound and obtainable once per day with each character.

It would individualize character progression a bit more and be less of a hindrance for people with alts. There would be no benefit having multiple toons over having once, since each toon would provide for themselves and not the account.

It wont be that big when The Elder Scrolls Online gets release, I’m super hyped for that game, I loved morrowind, oblivion was ok and skyrim was pretty good but not as good as morrowind. One thing about video games you should learn is theres ALWAYS a better game that will come out.

The it comes to the point of subscription fees, something many players stay away from. I’m one of them, I’ve payed MMO games during a period of 10+ years, but now playing GW2 really opened my eyes to how stupid it is with sub fees.

And the company making ESO are known for massive bugs, which are all fine and dandy in single player games, but wont be accetable in an MMO, especially if it has a sub fee.

@SneakyErvin

You can try and rationalize it all you want, but wrong is wrong. The devs stated, in black and white, that server “fullness” is tied to accounts, not people online.

You can write 20 more pages about why you think your anecdotal evidence is right, but it would still be wrong.

Actually, the dev link says nothing in black and white. It’s very vague, so I rather go after what has been said here on the forums earlier regarding server migrations.

But please do answer me, how all of a sudden a server marked as Full can suddenly, minutes later have enough room for a 500 man guild, or more in the case of a certain mass migration done by a US guild to a full EU server.

If it was account based, there wouldnt be a possibility to transfer to the server in those numbers, which has been done. This is no speculation about what if, since it has already happened. RUIN moving to desolation is a prime example.

The dev post only states the obvious, that full means full, due to too many people being on that server. It doesnt state if its current logged in numbers or not.

The mass migrations between servers, especially full ones, has given a better view how it works.

There is no explaination except the one I’ve given as to how full guilds, in the case of ruin multiple full guilds can transfer to a server labeled as full, unless enough people can mass log out to make room, as was stated by said guilds when it happened. Also when I transfered myself it was easier to do it at certain times of the day when servers were very high instead of full.

It’s also the obvious behavior to cap servers at active players logged on, since its a multi-regional game that spans the globe without zone restrictions. If it was tied to accounts only, some people would likely not be able to get in and during some time of the day there would be dead hours on the servers, which there is on some that are only EU or US servers. But then there are servers with a quite steady flow of people 24/7 since they are multi-regional.

People claim server population doesnt indicate players, but it does. It indicates players online, and servers have a higher limit than they had at release, the limit has increased gradually since release. Some servers also have a much higher population now.

This is wrong, as confirmed by ANet:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192

You can interprit that official answer anyway you like. But having switched servers a few time myself leads me more in the direction that it tracks people online. Also as I said, when mass transfers happened to certain servers, some guilds organized total logout schedules to get the transfering people onto their server.

This is another thing that leads me to the conclussion that population is based on people online. Otherwise the “full” servers would have been full even after organized log offs took places for people to get onto the servers.

The only thing is, this game doesnt have queues, once you get onto a server you get access to it, no matter if its full when you log on.

Reason there are less full servers now is because server capacity has increased, which with the lack of “low” pop servers in EU proves more people are playing now. After release we had plenty of low servers. If server capacity increased, chances to see “low” pop servers would be greater, since the number of players required to fill “low”, “medium”, “high” and so on would be greater.

But since “low” doesnt exsist, its only normal to assume there are more players on the servers now, same with the ones that are now high which used to be medium.

If we would have a significant drop in players along with the increased server cap it would be like this.

Full → Very High
Very High → Very High or High
High → High or Medium
Medium → Medium or Low
Low → Low

Depending how close to the above mark they were. Those close to the lower mark would most likely show a lower mark status compared to those closer to a higher mark.

But we currently have it the other way around, except there are no full servers now, since capacity is greater.

Yeah long hair is a no-no in this game, I hate it even when I see it on other players when its clipping through their armor and such.

I’ve spent several coins of gold to get “perfect” sets and looks for my characters, items that dont clip into eachother or float. So far I’m happy with the toons I have. Would like to see more sleeveless options for medium armor and less long coats. Some regular skin tunics that end just above the belt would be nice. I wanna show the tattoos my norns have, heavy armors have perfect options, medium doesnt.

I currently on have 2 toons with hair, my norn guardian, medium long hair and my asura engineer, short hair with sideburns, a bit rockabilly. Rest are close shaved, bald or sylvari branch heads. I’ve never liked playing people with “pretty” haircuts, since thats just not me, I’ve been a longhaired metal head for most of my life, but decided to go skinned a few years back, which I very much enjoy, much easier to keep in order and comb.

So my toons go the same way with the looks I prefer IRL, either skinned, longhaired or some rockabilly style. The rockabilly style however usually ends up on little people races cos it makes them look kitten.

US Servers
Very High – 21
High – 1
Medium – 2

EU Servers
Very High – 12
High – 1
Medium – 14

Looks like more players in the US to me.

This was looked up during US early prime time and during EU night time in the middle of the week, thats nothing to go after.

Server population changes when people log off, the reason why some big guild logged off in masses to get certain immigrating guilds onto their server. So if you get these result during US early prime time its not suprising. Check between 1400 – 2000 CET and CST and compare the results, since those would be more accurate.

People claim server population doesnt indicate players, but it does. It indicates players online, and servers have a higher limit than they had at release, the limit has increased gradually since release. Some servers also have a much higher population now. Just that the EU list doesnt have “low” servers anymore is a good indicator. Low have turned into medium, medium into large and so on. I’m on a former medium now high server myself, that is now in EU T1 and kicking as.

I wouldnt be suprised if there is a million or more playing.

And whoever claimed WoW servers were capped at 1500 per faction on “full” servers… No not even close. I wouldnt believe its below 5k on a full server per faction.

This was actually a heavy discussion in ToR, about how small and incapable the ToR servers were compared to WoW. 10k players on a full WoW servers was the common conclussion. What was full in ToR was medium in WoW. A reason so many wanted BioWare to reduce the servers so there would be a higher population. I was on a very heavy ToR server myself, it was a freaking ghost town.

If people are really dense and stand still, which most dont. There are too many variables that make iWarden a kitten poor choice for anything except a shatter spec really. He is just too static, he doesnt even move after his initial summoning.

That wasn’t the point though: you implied that condition Mesmers benefit much less from the Focus than Power Mesmers do. The problem you mentioned here applies just as much to Power Mesmers.

I’d actually say condition Mesmers are better suited for the Focus, because 1. condition Mesmers are heavily reliant on the Staff, so what you use for your other set (in terms of DPS) is not particularly important; and 2. condition Mesmers have problems catching runners, and Temporal Curtain helps with that.

Power Mesmers on the other hand essentially sacrifice a Phantasm (which condition Mesmers don’t care much about) if they use the Focus.

Nope never said that, I said all mesmer specs besides shatter specs benefit very little from focus besides the swiftness. That means phantasm specs and condi specs of any kind.

Thing is, if you spec and build for speed, focus becomes completely pointless in a condition build anyways except for speed, since you will most likely not have bleed on crit, or you will go with low condi damage due to lack of trait points as I said.

For a power build, especially shatter, focus works ok if specced, since you can shatter the iWarden. GS+Staff is one of the best setups though for either power or condi specs. GS clones stack bleeds very fast in a condi spec, it also brings a KB and cripple. And in a power spec, you have 2 hard hitting phantasms on unspecced short cds. iWarlock can hit insanely hard, then you can shatter him for a kittenload more.

You want two good weapons as a mesmer, so when one is on CD you go to the other to pop clones or phantasms depending on spec. Focus just does nothing that cant be done better with another setup.

There is also a very limited number of MH weapons to go with focus i.e sword and scepter, neither of which are reliable clone spawners, unless you get close with sword. If they make scepter worth it, it will be good in a condi spec and a power spec, but as far as off hands go to complement it, off hand sword or pistol is just much better than focus for both condi and power specs. Duelist does good damage with power and stack bleeds like crazy with a condi spec. And then there is torch for condi specs aswell.

For condi and phatasm specs the iWarden is useless, since it wont deal much damage unless, as I said earlier, the enemy is really bad. And you need to sacrifice so much to get acceptable swiftness uptime, both through traits and runes. If the iWarden becomes a ranged phantasm or a mobile one it would be a nice tool.

I just really dislike focus, sword and scepter and hate being “forced” to use a combination of them+spec+runes to be mobile outside of combat.

Considering a dark world threatened by gods know how many ancient evils I think a humorous mind is needed to not go hang yourself from the nearest bridge in LA.

And I can tell you a little personal story about a bad thing that happened where humor followed shortly after. This is pointed towards your “making a joke at a funeral comment”.

6 years ago I found my mother dead in her bed. Later on that same day after I got home from the hospital they took her body to I decided it was time to call my brother in the US (I live in Sweden) and tell him what happened.

As I tell him about her passing, things just get very quiet and awkward, just silence. But then the silence is broken by my brothers question “so… what did she drop?”. At which point we both break down in laughter, and some of the grim seriousness of death goes away for a while. Then we keep talking about more serious things.

Havent done much sPvP in a while, but last time I did it was on my warrior, felt kinda UP and slow, might be due to the very limited itemization in sPvP. The same character rocks in WvW when you can balance the spec with gear better.

Most fun class and the one that suits me best for WvW would be the engineer, its a nice class. Running soldier+knight armor(chest+legs), berserk trinkets+rifle 0/20/10/10/30 spec. Deals good damage with a SD based rifle spec that still has very acceptable survivability. Due to traits, classes that open with stuns and crits will struggle with the protection boon, after that its just to control them and fill them with big holes. Very easy to take down GC specs.

Only thing I’d like to change would be the centaur runes into scholar, ruby orbs or divinity, but with the bulky mechanics brought to speedy kits last patch made me settle with centaur+speedy kits for easy swiftness application. Atleast the centaur runes still provide a great power buff.

Weakest for me personally, elementalist, since I suck at playing them.

If people are really dense and stand still, which most dont. There are too many variables that make iWarden a kitten poor choice for anything except a shatter spec really. He is just too static, he doesnt even move after his initial summoning.

Dont forget you must more or less spend 20 points to get the focus to an acceptable cd and a secondary use, along with atleast 40% swiftness duration to have acceptable uptime on swiftness. 60% is the top to go since it will give you 19 sec swiftness on a 20 sec cd, avoiding the non-stack risk.

Thats alot of stats, both from traits and runes a condition spec gives up.

You either:

A) Give up dueling traits for it, meaning no bleed on crits or fury for your phantasms.
B) Give up chaos traits, leaving you more vulnerable in a attrition spec, not a smart choice. It also most likely robs you of the 5% condi from toughness traits (25 pointer)
C) You give up shatter CD+Condi damage
D) You give up a bit of all of the above.

And you give up 6 useful runes and one usful weapon (both scepter and sword are rather horrbile for a condi spec, mixed with focus its even worse, scepter+pistol can work but I’d prefer GS+Staff).

Focus is just useful for its swiftness and hilarious pull at times in WvW, but it mostly only works vs really bad players, its mindnumblingly easy to avoid.

3 Obsidian Shards for 3 Laurels?

Nothing on the laurel vendor is worth its price, maybe the necklace, but the rest is overpriced to the extreme.

I use laurels to get ascended gear that I cant get from anywhere else i.e necks and accessories. Rest is just not worth it considering the cost vs time.

35 laurels for an ascended ring that costs 10(!) in fractals… wut? They should be more like 10 laurels tops, if even that.

Mesmer needs a 25% Mov. Speed Signet

Why would I sack utility for 25% speed when I can just use temporal curtain? The reason I love my focus in wvw is for pulling people and also reflect, two very big advantages there.

Well and I want to use the torch because it fits my condition build, so what? If there was an easy and quick way to switch weapons, fine for me. But as it is now it’s way easier to switch a utility skill (signet). Also, if I enter combat and cannot switch any more, I’m not as screwed with a wrong utility as I cam with the wrong weapon.

Justine is also missing the point that none of us that want a signet option or similar for speed is asking for them to remove the uses or the builds for people that like focus.

All we want is an option for the rest of us, like almost every other class has. Especially an option for condition specced mesmers, where focus is straight out trash and there are no runes benefitting a condition spec that has swiftness duration on it or similar.

No you do not.
The Mesmer like the Warrior and the Guardian aren’t meant to have a 25% Movement Speed increase.
I play a Mesmer for my Main and even I know the only thing making us not Godlike in Pvp is that we can be caught.
If you learn to play the Mesmer properly and not make it super obvious which clone is the real one (Ie By blending in and not being the only body in the back) Then you won’t need the movement speed increase
Giving mesmers a speed increase would just wreck what little pvp balance we still have

Still both guardian and warrior are very easy to obtain perma swiftness with or close to it without giving up anything vital. It’s also not for combat we want speed, its for roaming. As I said before, movement speed bonuses only apply when you run straight forward i.e no strafing or backpeddaling.

It would even out the escape and catch mechanisms for all classes, seeing as mesmer is the only one lacking on the speedfront. Mesmers have horrible cripples, one with extremly short range, they also only really cater to DD specs. Condi specs have no real cripple and give up even more than DD specs to get perma swiftness.

Sure as someone said the pull on F#4 is nice in WvW, but thats not what we are arguing. But many players dont want that ability nor the phantasm, but are stuck with these because its the only means for mesmers to get perma swiftness. Yes yes, centaur runes woohoo… they are a horrible choise since you might end up in combat without a heal, and no, no other class is forced to waste their heal in such a way. And having to waste a heal in such a way is very imbalanced seeing as how all classes only have one major heal, so it should be an open choise.

No one is saying that we should remove the focus options for those that like it, we just want another option for us that want to run another type of DD spec or a condition spec. Just like most every other class, there is more than one option for perma speed.

Except for the thief who only has the signet.

There can still be alot of humor even in a serious setting. I think Anet has done it pretty well balancing the serious with the humerous. It’s common in both RPG games and fantasy movies, it can range from slapstick silly to a more modest apporach.

Megabosses chest as daily please reconsider

Alts are already a huge bonus, the game shouldn’t reward people making alts more than people playing their mains.

Well having alts costs alot more than having 1 toons and it takes x amounts of time longer to get gear for all.

Currently the whole system (except for gathering) is very alt unfriendly, all will be even more so with the patch, and no I’m not talking about the daily chests.

Anyhow, the OP is wrong. The system will work well the way its supposed to after patch, if you are hellbent on getting the daily chests with 80 rewards, go do it on an 80, easy and simple.

Guesting and Dragon Chest Limits

SneakyErvin.3056

The change will be minimal. Only difference will be that one guaranteed rare.

You will be able to get 14 guaranteed rares after the patch if you do all events. You will still be able to open a total of 14*(x characters). What isnt clear though is if you will recieve daily chest+boss chest when doing the boss the first time of the day or just the daily chest with the guaranteed rare.

Right now when you do a boss you get a minimum of 1 rare in the chest, sometimes 3 and at times even an exotic. Only difference is 1 of the rares. After patch you might still get 2 rares on following alts doing the bosses or none at all and maybe even an exotic.

Most likely the chests have better droprates than pre-feb patch and will stay that way after this patch. I’ve seen alot more rares since the feb patch, not including the guaranteed rares.

Boonhate will destroy engineer off builds

SneakyErvin.3056

Boonhate is a decent idea but with the current layout with trait lines it will be poorly implemented.

They should IMO rework trait lines, especially the minor traits that are mandatory to reach higher traits. If I wanna be able to avoid boons I should be able to do so if its not something I aim for.

Like the 5pt alchemy minor that procs the elixir at 75% health. Forcing people into those traits when boonhate goes live is not fair, there should be options.

No, nay, never. I’ve payed for other MMOs in the past and it has been worth it, GW2 wouldnt be.

The game is good enough for a F2P game, but far from the quality to justify a sub fee. The attracting factor at start was the alt friendlyness and no grind philosophy, which is slowly fading away patch by patch along with time gated progression etc.

I’m honestly not sure how long I’ll keep playing if it gets even more alt unfriendly. Other MMOs are on the horizon, some of them are probably good F2P alternatives.

5 pts: 50 pwr or Phantasms have retaliation?

Not sure why you havent invested points in dueling, for a 20/30/0/0/20 spec. This would help you out greatly in dungeons where you face phantasm smashing mobs. It would let you shatter for great damage when you cant safely use phantasms.

It would give you alot more crit and crit damage for a power based spec, your phantasms would crit 30% harder and have fury aswell. And you wont need toughness as a mesmer in dungeons unless you go a for a really tanky role.

But it all depends on what gear you use.

Zerker SD+Rifle spec engi does great burst damage if thats what you want. Plus you get some very bursty close quarter abilities too (blunder+jump). I’m running mixed defense/offense armor+spec myself and I still do great damage on mine.

But the class takes a bit getting used to, but if you learn it, the engi will preform great.

For WvW you have massive control and great burst, no long cast times and things come in seperate attacks instead of the very easily avoidable killshot warriors have. The only class I find more bursty is the mesmer. AoE or single target, it does insane amounts of damage both from shatters and phantasms, iWarlock can crit for 13k+ if you pop him at the right moment or if you run in a condition heavy group he will crit for that amount very often.

New Password rules = far to extreme

If you have trouble picking a password and getting the message they have been used by others, then your password isnt creative enough or safe enough.

1. Think of something personal to you, doesnt have to be family members or stuff like that, but something only you would know or relate to.
2. Toss in some number or other things if you can.
3. Pick up a pen.
4. Pick up a paper.
5. Apply pen to paper.
6. Write down your password.
7. Profit.

I know its an age of technology and pen+paper seems archaic, but its still a fool proof way to remember passwords, unless you happen to be visited by an MMO password hunting burglar.

Mesmer needs a 25% Mov. Speed Signet

^Pretty much spot on here… We cannot catch anyone currently least of all two of the other “slow” classes… One of which has SEVERAL movement capabilities just built into weapon sets the other has a speed signet.. before that our best option to catch runners was using the phantasmal berserker to cripple them… However that is bugged out and they are crippled for less than a second… Doesnt really matter there anymore… So yes this is a glaring issue when they say they want mesmers to have some of the mobility of theives yet we can’t even match it.

Finaly another one that understand the issues. Mesmers, supposed to be mobile like the thief, still cant catch a necro thats fleeing, on of the supposed less mobile classes in game.

Mesmers are also dead in their tracks if they try and flee, also versus the so called less mobile classes. Warrior is probably one of the most mobile and deadly with the right spec, infinite dodges, perma swiftness and perma fury. And he didnt even have to bother with getting his swiftness perma, since it came with the spec.

Another thing people dont seem to get, atleast the ones that claim movement speed will imbalance the class in combat is the following.

Movement speed, no matter what type, only work while you travel forward. Strafe while running and you will move at base speed for OOC or IC. You must travel straight forward for the bonus to have effect. This mean that giving mesmers movement speed buffs would increase their chasing and escape abilities. Which goes perfectly in line with the philosophy behind the class, a mobile duellist.

It would be on par with the escape/chase mechanisms of the other classes. Even heavy and “immobile” classes like the warrior and necro have better escape mechanisms than the supposedly very mobile mesmer. All without giving up anything to get it.

Rune of the centaur still doesnt give 100% uptime AND you need to put your heal on CD and use an inferior type of heal to put up swiftness each 12-13 seconds (the actual cd of Centaur).

I would be fine with a tuning of the focus. Make the phant useful, maybe an illusionary ranger with a bow instead of axes (currently it mirrors axe #5 ranger skill), something similar to duelist maybe and lower its base CD to 20 sec. Increase the swiftness duration to maybe 20sec on a 25sec cd, this would with one swiftness duration rune result in a 24sec duration on a 25 sec cd (no interfearance with the non stackable effect).

It would also allow those with traited focus to keep permament swiftness, not unreasonable for spending 20 traits on it compared to engineers who spend 10.

There is nothing wrong with the iWarden phantasm as it is. No need to bring up changing it.
If you want to change something to help Mesmers with their speed buff, give Staff #5 Chaos Storm an increased time out of combat guaranteed speed buff, Keeping the random 3s speed buff if in combat.

Chaos Storm is on such a long CD, adding a swiftness to it that can be used outside of combat would keep it on CD pre combat, the place where it is most useful.

I still strongly think that either buffing the swiftness duration on F#4 or making a passive 25% with a new signet. 20 sec duration on a 25sec cd would be acceptable. I could live with the focus if that were to happen.

And well I’m glad you enjoy iWarden even though its horribly bugged. It might work with a shatter spec, but really not in a phantasm spec (yes those actually exsist) since he will do nothing useful. Easily avoidable predictable damage, never moves, not even between his skills unless the enemy is out of LoS. But thats for a different topic. My suggestion was just one to make focus more appealing since the majority hates it and only uses it for the limited speed.

Mega Boss loot changes

SneakyErvin.3056

Maybe set a maximum daily chest number instead? 5-6 Rare chests per day, no matter what event bosses you kill, that couldnt be too hard to track.

While I understand your desire to be able to choose which encounters you get rewarded for, I think this would cause everybody to just do Maw over and over again, because it’s the easiest event chain on the fastest timer. I think at least part of the intention behind the once per event per day system is to encourage people to spread out and do a bunch of different events, and not just farm the fastest ones. As has been pointed out in this and other threads, there are many more “guaranteed rare” chests in the game than the ones people are currently farming. Being able to get a guaranteed rare only once per day from Teq is a bit of a nudge to get people to go north one zone and help with the Hydra Queen event.

They could always just remove the level 80 rare loot from the lowbie bosses. Make sure loot scales with event level. It’s currently fubar that dragons give the same loot as Balthazar, Grenth, Melandru and so on. Dragons are too easy IMO. Maybe they should limit the daily chest to the braindead events and leave the higher risk events with a rare chests per character per day instead?

Problem is, you cant fail on Maw, Fire Elemental, Jormag, Shatterer, Sunless and so on, but you can indeed fail on Orr events. Why do they have such a low reward when so much more work is included?

It would be OK in PvE for farming etc, but far from OK in WvW.

It’s just that the “heavier classes” like guardian, warrior, necro, ranger, engineer are all much more mobile outside of combat than mesmers just like the two “lighter classes” mentalist and thief are.

Mesmer is the only class without a viable speed option. All others get it with their spec/gear or by just swapping a signet. If you go for the speed option on Mesmer you dont only gimps yourself in general, you effectivly waste 20 traits while under water, lock up 20 trait point for cases when you dont need the speed (siege/def and instances), where other classes can just swap 1 signet or a trait(engineer) for something more useful. Or as the warrior that just gets it as a bonus when aiming for perma might/fury.

I would be fine with a tuning of the focus. Make the phant useful, maybe an illusionary ranger with a bow instead of axes (currently it mirrors axe #5 ranger skill), something similar to duelist maybe and lower its base CD to 20 sec.
