Eir and Gram are also related to nordic mythology.

Yep, though is it Gram or Garm her wolf is called, either way, both of them no matter what are from norse lore.

Garm = The wolf that guards the gates to Hel.
Gram = A magical weapon. Made by the dwarf Regin, given to Sigurd Fafnrsbane, the slayer of the dragon Fafnr.
Eir: Godess of healing.

I love all the people that have quit even before testing what came with the Lost Shores patch.

Those people remind of the cardboard doomsday proclaimers sitting ontop of bus stops all over the word. Is that the right word, doomsday proclaimer? Or should it be religious bums?

Real ancient "NORN" of North Amerika

The inspiration for the Norn race comes, quite obviously, from ancient scandinavian culture, mixed with either saami culture or native american culture.

Both saami and native american culture have their similarities depending on tribes and such.

The name Norn comes from norse lore, Urd, Verdandi and Skuld, (past, present and future). The iconic spirit worship is more shamanistic in the saami or native american way. The Norse had/have their gods, Asar and Vaner (Aesir and Vanir) aswell as the Jotuns. Jotuns are giants, devided into different tribes/races.

Hrimthursar = Frostgiants of Niflheim that want to cover the world in ice.
Eldthrusar = Firegiants of Muspelheim, that wants to devour the world in flames. Surtur the king of the muspeli is the giant that will set the world ablaze during ragnarök, so the new age will dawn.

Both ravens and wolves are strongly related to norse lore aswell. Hugin, Munin, Freke and Gere, Odin’s two ravens and his two wolves. Then you have Hate and Skoll, the wolves that chase the moon and sun and will devour them during ragnarök. There is also Månegarm who lives on the blood of the dead and chases the sun and moon aswell, causing solar and lunar eclipse.

Its too early to assess the long term impact of ascended gear. I do get the feeling ArenaNet have gone back on their word and we are being drip fed the never-ending upgrade ladder.

In most MMOs I like some of both PvE and RvR/WvW. That said, GW2 PvE endgame is pretty crap. Other than the Fractals instance I’ve been extremely unimpressed with ArenaNet’s PvE endgame. So to PvE-focused friends I advise them to stay away from this gobbler. One decent 5-man instance in an MMO does not an end-game make.

On the other hand, WvW is very good and I would still recommend people to play at this time if they like large scale PvP. I can’t comment on sPvP as I don’t play that.

I don’t think it is too early to assess. I think Chris Whiteside’s statements in the AMA were pretty clear once you strip away the corporate double speak:

“Ascended is (probably) the last gear tier, however, we will continue to gradually increase the stats on all tiers of gear on a shallow power curve forever, not just Ascended.”

Pretty much gear treadmill confirmed, the only things we don’t know is the steepness and speed, which he seemed to agree were out of whack. If it’s a VERY shallow and VERY quick treadmill, we might be able to get an ascended piece in a few hours (rather than 60-70 hours as it is currently).

If they change it so that 1 Ascended is as easy to get as 2 Exotics, then I doubt many people will mind too much, as we’ll be back at the top of the treadmill in a couple of days, each time they creep up the stats.

However, if this is their idea of keeping us playing constantly, to give us a new piece of gear or a new infusion every couple of months that takes a couple of months (for normal people) to get, then their game will die, and it will deserve to die.

There was never supposed to be any endgame. The whole game is Endgame. This should not be a surprise. Once you play Skyrim, or GTA4, or Half Life 2, or Assassin’s Creed 3 all the way to the end, you don’t complain there’s nothing to do now that you’ve finished it, you turn it off and do soemthing else. GW2 PvE is like that, and in fact any worthwhile content, whether it’s a game or a movie or a TV series or whatever is like that. It stops.

WvW and sPvP were where we were supposed to find the long-lasting content. Endless battle in an open arena? Yes please! Honing our skills in close-quarters combat on a truly level playing field? Sign me up!

When I look at GW2 I see it as something like COD4. In both games, the PvE campaign is decent, cinematic and very entertaining. However it is easy, short and shallow. You play though it once, have a great time and then you go into PvP, which is where the majority of players spend most of their time, and where the real depth of gameplay is to be found.

Hundreds of thousands of people are still playing COD4 today, 5 years after it came out. I’m sure very few of them are moaning that playing through the PvE campaign over and over is boring.

You compare SP games to MMOs. It’s not the same thing. You cant go and compare them regarding end game or not.

A game cannot survive on a PvE or PvP only setting, it needs both.

However, the introduction of ascended gear was done wrong, as Anet stated in the AMA. As most players have said, it should have gone live as it was intended to be in the final end i.e you should be able to obtain the ascended gear by taking whatever path you want. WvW, PvE-event drops, dungeons, fractals, badges, karma, crafting you name it. Currently there is only the fractal way aswell as a very expensive crafting way rgarding cloaks.

Both of the costs, mystic forge and fractal relics, are being looked into. Since they are both very high, this was also stated in the AMA.

And regarding the future stat increase on rarities I asume he included it so people wont get their panties in a twist when new levels are brought to the game along with 81+ gear.

If they do increase stats prior to a new level cap I asume it will be increased on exsisting gear aswell, unless they start with item levels. Which I hope they dont. If its exotic it should have exotic stats, not exo t1, t2, t3 stats.

Yes I would recommend it. Out of the people I know that started playing it only one have quit. His reason was that it was boring because gear was too easy to obtain and there was nothing else to do. He didnt even set foot in WvW or sPvP, because they were bad since they didnt givbe you gear with higher stats when you progressed.

A WoW child in short.

The rest of us enjoy what the game brings, we arent super happy about grinding, but the fractals are fun and bring many laughs when we fall to our deaths. I will stick with the game for a good while, since I enjoy it and so will probably the people I know.

@OP: Yes those games are claimed to be involved with deaths. It doesnt matter if its a heartattack, playing a game, driving a car or having sex. Life kills you, thats just how it is.
It doesnt matter what it is in life, some people have feeble minds and cant seperate reality to fiction.

During the 80’s we had the Washington Wives bashing heavy metal, blaming Judas Priest, W.A.S.P, Alice Cooper, Twizted Sister etc. for the decline/corruption of the youth. They claimed a Judas Priest song made two kids commit suicide.

The truth behind the game deaths are probably as true as those claims during the 80’s. Which means its as far from the truth as it can be.

Many swedes here probably remember Sivert Öholm, trying to prenounce We Are Satan’s People in very bad english live on swedish TV. What he though W.A.S.P ment. The most evil band at the time, with the sawblade codpieces, bracelets and naked women on their album covers/videos. I dont think anyone to this day knows the exact meaning of W.A.S.P, because I dont think Mr. Lawless has set it straight yet. Last I heard was We Aint Sure Pall.

Sorry, but a recount would not work in this game.

1. It’s not all about DPS in dungeons. People with support specs would be labeled unwelcomed by the narrowminded DPS kittens.

2. Condition damage spells (except bleed up until 25 stacks) only count for the person with the highest condition damage stat, the rest only add duration. People with just a few point less condition damage would lose the whole tick, so wouldnt really reflect actual dps.

People shouldnt be forced into the min-max playstyle due to a stupid dps meter. I’ve freely chosen to spec my engi and mesmer as glasscannons (although, mesmer doesnt feel half as glassy as engi), while my necro is more a DoT tank with high toughness.

I keep seeing more and more misconceptions in this game. Like say the new fly “lf1m for X, need heavy armor”. Many fail to see how fragile a heavy armor class is if they dont come with toughness.

Would however like to see some form of inspect, to be able to detect the MF leeches.

Next gw2 Expansion Class?

I want ritualist it was a lot of fun and there is room for another defensive buffer type class with pets. Ranger spirits don’t play like Rit at all nor are they even useful currently.

People saying monk and dragoon I doubt it.

No because WoW just did it and thats kind of a me too attitude to take which would be bad for PR right after Mists has released. Maybe in the expac after the first one it would make more sense.

Dragoon no as well because it is a direct rip off of Final Fantasy which is their intellectual property.

Those two reason as to why GW2 shouldnt have either are very poor reasons.

Neither of those two are game specific. They are/have been standard types within our own society and would fit very well in GW2.

You say Dragoon is the intellectual property of FF… Do you even know what a dragoon really is/was? A hybrid soldier, a mix between cavalry and infantry. Used as either light cavalry or (most commonly) infantry. They used their horses to move into positions on the battlefield then attack from foot. Their primary weapons were blackpowder guns.

Monk is one of the most generic professions, a very wide profession. They’ve been included in games for ages, either called monks or friars. Mostly centered around martial arts or wielding a staff.

Personally I’d like to see either a heavy armor ranged class, a bard/skald/minstrel type or some type of summoner.

If there was an inspect option I would not include people with MF gear in dungeons.

Dungeons in general? Not necessary, they’re easy enough as it is. I killed Simin in MF gear.
Fractals? No MF allowed.

Did you solo him? Do you know if your group was composed out of only MF users or just you? The exact reason why it shouldnt exsist. Other people have to pull your weight.

I’ve done several fractals with MF people. Its been easy, but thats because most of the group uses proper gear. What happens when a full group of MF users get together, you guessed it, low damage, low surv, long kitten dungeons and so on.

Yep, should be shared IMO or devided equally among the group. 200% MF/5 = 40% each (food should be personal).

Those stacking MF give up alot of effective stats. Like close to 100% extra crit damage, tons of precision and so on. And the more MF sets they release, more and more classes will use them.

The issue doesnt only come down to dealing low damage or trading surv, in addition to that or as an effect of that they lose out on hate vs the mobs since their damage is low. So the guy with no MF will have to work his kitten off harder the more MF using memebers there are in group.

If there was an inspect option I would not include people with MF gear in dungeons.

My thoughts go to the MF levels in D3, why not just let us buy MF for skillpoints after reaching 80? 0.25 or 0.5% MF per skillpoint or something, then making it more expensive the higher you reach. Maybe 0.5 MF per 5 or 10 SP after 50%. Cap it at 200% or something.

Dredge Powersuit (Very unbalanced)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

Dodge is there for a reason.

Powersuit is very simple. At 10+ he gets a bit annoying since his agony damage comes from an attack you cannot dodge, atleast not the whole attack. I also suppose the people complaining about the powersuit also have huge issues with floor switches, cogwheels and bomb running. All simple tasks if you do it right.

Only issue I’ve had with him is when someone kites him the wrong way and dont understand the cauldrons.

You cant expect swamps, underwater caverns and svanir bashing every single fractal, sometimes you get the longer ones, like collosus and dredgies.

Honestly, I dont understand how people can compare 3 (yes 3) items to a geargrind such as WoWs or Rift or any other MMO.

I takes roughly 1-1½h per day to “grind” for it after you hit level 10. Once you have the 2 rings you like there is no more “grinding”. You can even save all the wrong stat rings for alts.

It takes much longer than that, I hate dungeons, this is only the beginning. Get it?

Ps. I don’t think fractals are fun at all.

Actually no it doesnt.

I started with a fractal 10 around 21.15 , it was done around 22.15. This is with no voice communication and just pure PuGing. Thats an easy hour or hour and a ½ that I happily do as a break from other things in the game.

And regarding whoever it was that remarked on getting this and that when it comes to cloak mats. Run ascendants if you dont wanna grind mats, you need roughly 1800 marks and you can make one with mats obtained from the fractal vendor and mist essences that drop in the fractals.

@Snoring Sleepwalker.9073: I see what you are saying. Currently, it does look like treadmill, but if ascended gear will be the top tier and stay the top tier there really is no treadmill.

Honestly the game brought less grinding to the table than what I excepted at release. I expected to grind a set by doing dungeons, then when I had that, be set for WvW. However, I had full exotics just 5 hours after hitting 80, since everything was there at the TP.

I havent done more than the story mode of all other dungeons and a half Arah explore. I dont mind doing dungeons here and there for gear, and with the setup for fractals and ascendant gear I dont mind them at all.

To get the rings you need to grind to difficulty 10. When you reach 10 you need to spend roughly an hour (depending on the group) per day until you get the ring, while in the meantime you get badges and vials so you can craft cloaks in the mystic forge.

It takes 1850 badges or something from fractals, some skillpoints and a condenced mist essence or what they are called to create a ascendant cloak. You can also grind for other ascendant cloaks by doing regular world things, like farming vials of powerful blood, ectos and such.

I prefer the slight challenge in fractals though compared to the mindnumbing farming. If the cloaks turn out to be as nice the the others I will just sell all my current globs, scales, blood and so on and get rich.

And honestly, how many people have tried fractals? I complained before the patch, then thought I was silly for doing so before testing it out and giving it a shot. I still complain at times for the lack of a LFG tool and how incredibly stupid some groups can be, no matter if you end up with 4 other random PuGs or 4 people from the same guild, some people are just beyond help. Then you get the super easy going awesome PuG with no trouble at all.

To anyone saying that it’s not a grind…

Tell me how 300 ecto is “not a grind.”

That’s right, THREE HUNDRED ECTO for Infused Ascended gear.

Plus 250 of whatever T6 crafting material you need.

Who cares? Thats what the whiners asked for and got. However, if you dont plan on running for more than BiS gear for everything besides fractals all you need are the regular pieces. The infused piece only comes with resistance, worthless outside the fractals.

The difference between regular and infused is +5 agony resist.

edit: Also regarding group finding, yes it can be annoying, yes its not perfect. But I havent spent much time lfg. I’ve found good groups and done more than 1 difficulty at a time. 5-11 just today, covered with 2 groups.

Infusions also have stats, and there are more tiers to come.

Have even looked at the gear not labeled (infused)? Probably not.

All ascendant pieces have infusion slots, infused ascendant gear has a +5 agony resist bonus, that all. The level 10 pieces have the exact same stats, same infusion slots but miss the +5 resist.

Endless quiver:

+17 Precision
+17 Toughness
+24 Condition Damage
+32 Condition Damage
+18 Precision
+18 Toughness
Unused Offensive Infusion Slot

Endless quiver (infused):

+17 Precision
+17 Toughness
+24 Condition Damage
+32 Condition Damage
+18 Precision
+18 Toughness
+5 Agony Resistance
Unused Offensive Infusion Slot

The implementation of the new gear wasnt 100% thought through IMO. But that doesnt mean its all bad. The only thing they really screwed up was limiting it to fractals. However there is nothing wrong with the fractals, they are much more fun than the other dungeons that just felt like WP bumrushing for the win.

The new dungeons are perfectly done, enough difficulty and fitting rewards. I thought it was going to be another endless clusterkitten of annoyance, but I was wrong. Its far easier to get to level 10 (the level you need to get to pretty much) than I thought. Levels 1-10 are there so you learn the dungeons pretty much, with a fair shot at exotics and rares (lots of ectos).

I was dead sure I wasnt going to get ascendant gear because I hate PvE in general. Its easy to say things suck before you try it, I’m just glad I tried it before I discarded it.

People also bash on PuGs, I’ve had the most wonderful PuGs aswell as being the PuG guy in guild groups.

Going above level 10 really doesnt give you any major benefit, except maybe a slightly higher droprate on the ring. The level 10-11 fractals should be enough if you only want rings for PvP/farming/other dungeons. Otherwise you grind to 20 for some extra resistance on the ring (doesnt effect pvp or other pve).

And if you have friends that wont help you to reach level 10 then you have bad friends/guild mates. You can only get one shot at the ring per day from the daily, well two one at 10-11 and one at 20-21. So there is no big reason for them to grind high fractals besides that, they would gain more by helping you up if its hard finding frac 1 and higher groups.

I play less than I did at release, but that means nothing, thats the story with every game. I’m currently working on getting mats for cloaks, lots of them, one for each character I have and will have. Also grinding fractals up until level 10 on each toon, first reached 11 today and scored a ring for my necro.

I only feel the game lacks a proper lfg tool. The game is very nice in every other group finding aspect since you can just tag along without grouping with people in the open world. It’s far from entertaining to stand around in LA looking for fractal groups. It shouldnt be needed for finding groups, it should be possible to experience the rest of the content while browsing groups. Bet it comes before new years though.

I dont see how people have issues getting vials. I run with MF food, thats it and I currently have 5 or 6 in my bank and one already used on my necros cloak.

Also still waiting for class fixes, but the classes are working, no game breaking bugs yet. Pet A.I sucks though.

Not a big fan of the new zone, was expecting more humanoids along with karka. Some crazy pirates maybe that have run out of rum?

From time to time I take a break from GW2 and play Xcom or Mechwarrior Online, but that doesnt mean I’m losing interest in GW2. It’s just that Xcom and Mechwarrior are classic brands from my younger days and I cant pass up playing those from time to time.

Easy solution to the Ascended Gear problem #2

Sadly its too late now to fix it by restricting it to the fractals. And here is why.

People have already obtained a cloak and a ring (or 2), which in turn means they have salvaged their old items no doubt or in the case of backs, vendored them.

Only move Anet can do to revert anything is by giving the new gear exo stats and infusions only to give agony resist. Its too late for anything else.

I thought it would be much harder to get the ascendant pieces that matters, but it only requires you to get to difficulty 10 for the regular ascendant rings. The one with extra resistance is obtained at level 20 but is a waste if you only want to PvP and farm or do dungeons.

I just reached level 11 difficulty on my enginner, got a drop at the extra boss in difficulty 10 and I got my first ascendant ring. Sadly it was a necro ring so now my necro is my best geared toon with an ascendant back (which everyone can get, costs roughly 15g and up depending on stats) and a ring.

Now all thats needed for me is to run a level 10 each day and get my mesmer and necro to level 10 too in order to get 3 dailies done per day (I do think its on a character to character basis and not account wide since difficulty is saved per character).

If it wont take more than this per day I dont see it as a big roadblock to me personally, but I still think its wrong to not have the ascendant pieces available for WvW currency already.

edit: Also a sidenote, the fractals arent very hard or time consuming. All you need are people that knows what to do and are ok with telling it to the group. I went from 5-11 today, had one wipe before level 10, then a few at level 10 because we kittened up. But since you get more silver in there than you need for repairs its all ok in my book.

If you havent tried it yet, please do, its not a clusterkitten like other dungeons in the game.

I posted this in another thread. I just made the Ascended backpack, here’s a comparison to my old one:

Guild Assassin Backpack of the Berserker
20 power
14 Precision
1% Crit damage
25 Power
3% Crit damage
15 Precision

Quiver of Swift Flight
24 Power
17 Precision
1% Crit damage
32 Power
4% Crit damage
18 Precision

The stats are 20-25% increase, apply that to every piece of armor and weapons and I think you’ll agree it’s going to be a problem in WvWvW.

An increase of 4 stats points from rare to ascended = gamebreaking?

The lols is mighty on this one.

For the sheer majority of the forums who don’t understand game mechanics, you think an extra 36 points (ring ring backpack) is going to be the deciding factor in a fight?

Wow. Just wow.

This is just the beginning, wait until there are full sets.

The stats isnt the only issue or the major one, the major issue are the options to obtain the new gear, oh wait sorry, the option, since there is really only one.

That forces people to do a minimum of uhm 35 dungeons in order to have even a chance at a ring, and that is if everything works like it should with no disconnects or crashes, in which case you pretty much need to start over. And if you really dont want to PvE just to stay competative in PvP its a pain in the rear regions.

I had to do 10 dungeons with my mesmer just to get past lvl 1 since people crashed and got d/c so much and couldnt get back in.

Currently its not an option to do anything if you want top gear for WvW. A place where you do actually need it if you arent a mindless zerger.

Those are for different specs. Not sure what you are trying to get across, atleast compare two items of the same affix. That means zerker vs zerker, valkyrie vs valkyre and such.

Someone posted a comparison of two rings: Ruby Orichalcum Ring and Vine of the Pale Tree. Like these two affixes, there was some overlap of statistics but some non-overlap as well.

If I have to compare the same affix? Then you can’t compare these rings. If you compare those rings, then I can compare two different prefixes/suffixes.

So, really, which one is better?

Still not seeing what your point is, since both those 2 you linked are off the same level and for different specs.

But compare a pale tree ring with a ruby orichalcum one.

Pale Tree
+71 Power
+50 Precision
+4% Critical Damage
+32 Power
+4% Critical Damage
+18 Vitality

Ruby Ori+gem
+67 Power
+48 Precision
+3% Critical Damage
+25 Power
+3% Critical Damage
+15 Precision

And for those that dont want to do dungeons at all the gap gets even bigger when we start talking about backs. You cant obtain an exotic back outside of PvE, so you are stuck with rare backs in WvW if you dont PvE.

Just two quick questions to the people that claim the 12000 posts in the now locked ascendant gear thread isnt an indication of what the majority of the players want.

How many MMOs out there have have stayed perfectly healthy after having doomsday proclamations regarding changes on their forums?

How often have the doomsday proclaimers or whiners (as you may call it) been way off mark?

I dont think I’ve experienced one MMO that currently has a healthy population after disasterous patches. Patches that drove the vocal population to complain on the forums. The companies didnt care, because it was just a minor population of the game that went to the forums.

But the now closed thread had around 12000 posts, around 9-10000 of those were against the new gear in one way or the other. Thats roughly 80% of the players that represent the forum goers. I’m sure not all disgrunteled people go to the forums.

The negative attitude pours into the live gaming crowd aswell, people express their feelinging in game. I think the numbers are quite frankly the same in game with the pro and against crowds.

The biggest gripe also seems to be the stat inflation and the lack of options to obtain the gear. Sure you cant please everyone, but you CAN meet everyones demands halfways.

Solutions.

-Add Asc gear in WvW and through crafting asap, make it karma gear in WvW. Dont include infusion slots in WvW/crafted gear and make the infusions only give agony resist.
-Remove the inflated stats and make them exotics with infusion slots, make infusions give agony resist only.

This way PvPers and PvEers would be happy. Not giving infusion slots to PvP/crafted sets would mean those that so eagerly wanted a new tier in PvE gets their fun little grind while the PvPers can either buy it or grind it, depending on their choice, since they didnt demand the new gear for WvW. But if they one day want to dabble in PvE they need to grind for the set like everyone else.

I just love how missinformed many of the pro-ascendant gear people are.

You claim ascendant gear doesnt have a gem slot and only an infusion slot, thereby making its stats lower than exotics with top end gems.

Oh my are you off the mark. The ascendant gear already has a gem included in their stats, a gem of higher quality than the current ones that can be crafted. Ontop of that they have an infusion slot. The current low level infusion that have been found give 5 resist and 5 to a stat or no resist and 2×5 stats.

The cloaks and rings already created and found have any stat combo a player may want, from rabid to berserker. On a second not, you cannot obtain exotic cloaks even, so the ascendant cloaks are just THAT much better. You can get an exotic cloak, by gridning fractals. Again a slap in the face to the WvW community.

The stats are there, on fansites, wikis and ingame. It’s not hard to just glare at the stats and see the big differences between gemmed exo and ascendant pieces.

Why is fractal progression not accountwide?

in The Lost Shores

Fractal progression account wide would be so bad its not even funny. Its terrible that the levels do not reset as it is.

Wait, you want it to reset so the people that dont feel like grinding several hours everyday will never have a shot at the level 10-11 an upwards ascendant items?

That sounds awfully alot like WoW’s weekly badge/honor cap… no make that daily cap. If you missed out on one day you couldnt reach the cap, so you were behind.

Thats not even close to the game design, unless they give us a shot at ascendant rings from lvl 1 and up, same shot in every difficulty and so on.

I thought ideas about ascendant gear/fractals couldnt get any worse.

They could also introduce fractal solo runs, for those working odd hours and have a hard time finding low difficulty groups.

I sure hope it doesnt reset, the grind to level 10 is already a pain for those that want to spend time elsewhere or have a life.

Resetting the level would mean the level 10-11 difficulty rings from the chests would be even further away for casuals, the crowd the game attracted the most with their now broken promises.

Atleast now you can grind when you have time, take a level per day or so.

@Rpgtabbycat: Yes you do if you want to be able to stay at the most competative level in PvP. Which makes it a must for every WvW player, even if they hate PvE.

Why did they not introduce the ascendant parts in WvW so WvWers could get them? That would be fair and give everyone 2 options to obtain them. Then have WvW specific infusions and fractal infusions, obtained from their respective field of use.

Tada, simple solution and fix.

People already farmed these or are in the course of getting them. Everyone ingame is spamming LFG fotm lvl 1,2,3,4 that means that people enjoy them , it’s not like your getting left behind everyday you see lfg lvl 1 and 2 , they are short even if you grind one level a day you can get up to lvl 10+ and get the ring you wanted. It’s sad that people are so casual nowdays that want one tier gear for 10 years. Life issues and kids aside no one is forcing you to play them.

You just dont get it.

Just because people do it, it doesnt mean they enjoy it. It just means they need to do it in order to get the best possible gear for WvW. It’s the 5th day since patch and its already hard to find level 1 and 2 groups.

The system is also much to unfriendly to people who have alts. You need to grind 10 levels on each alt before being able to grind rings, just to get the best gear for WvW.

The promise from the devs at start was that you could do whatever part of the game you wanted without any hindrance. This patch but a huge block in the way for those that just enjoy WvW and not PvE.

Its the same old song, over and over again, from game to game (sad to say except for WoW and SWToR that I know of), PvE heroes have huge benefits in PvP. Atleast in WoW and ToR there are special PvP sets with PvP stats.

In GW2 since the patch those that do not enjoy PvE one bit will have to sit their with their pants down and get violated by a rusty pink blade in their rear section, just because Anet force them to go do PvE to stay competative in PvP.

In a game that promised that the PvP playing field would be equal and only based on skill at max level. That idea got tossed into a plastic bag and then suffocated.

The latest patch turns those promises into the biggest lies in MMO history. We bought this game due to those promises, and now we have to sit idly by because the vocal minority in this game had their wish come through. Power creep, treadmills, stat inflation and so on.

Will this be WoW 3.0, only with more bugs and smaller major content patches?

Why is fractal progression not accountwide?

As the title says, why is fractal progression not accountwide?

I need to grind from difficulty one on each toon. I imagined the difficulty level was just an indication of account experience within the fractals.

The game is turning more and more into WoW. It was a perfect game for altoholics up until the patch.

Since all items from there seem to be acount bound, why arent the progress also account bound. Or do you want people to get fed up with one toon after too much grinding or what? I enjoy switching toons, I’ve gotten to diff 3 with my 3 80s and I’m already starting to get bored since the unlimited content is infact 9 different dungeons only.

People keep asking why people are upset about ascendant gear. Here is a short asnwer.

It has to much impact on PvP and it forces PvPers into PvE. Something that should not happen when a game is so centered around a special PvP area.

Why is the ascendant gear not designed for dungeons and open world PvE only?

Guys, come on. Really?

Why is this such a big deal, what exactly changed that the game is significantly worse this week than last? Better dungeon drops, better champion drops, better chest loot, more content, DA KARKA, and you guys want a “legacy” server?

NO ONE is forcing you to play a so called “numbers game.” You choose your play-style, not Anet, not “elitists,” but you.

The problem is that players who have families, jobs and children (the casual players that this game was so focused on targeting) will no longer be able to compete with the people who have more time to spend grinding away dungeons. This gear actually gives a somewhat significant increase in stats from exotics. Not only that but I read that they plan on increasing stats on legendary items to make them stronger than ascended, along with making the ascended armor and weapons. The exotics that I spent a considerable time obtaining will be rendered inferior and all forms of PvP will become a mass of hardcore players all in the same gear, tearing up the standard casual player. Hope that helps.

Compete for what exactly? I hear a lot of talk about competition, but I was unaware that PvE had a competitive scene.

Even if it did, it’s like me getting mad at the PGA for offering a green jacket because I can’t compete with professional golfers.

Your comparisons are way off. The concern here is the gap it will have on PvP. If it was ONLY about PvE we wouldnt care this much, because there is no competition in PvE. But when PvE gear takes a step into PvP with no way for PvPers to obtain it besides PvEing people have a right to be upset.

All the current ascendant items force you to do atleast 1 dungeon even if you dont want to, you MUST have a drop from fractals to make even the cloak. This is also RNG gear and not something you can obtain through badges. So you cant calculate the time you need to spend before being able to skip this thing that should have really been optional at most.

You are also forced to do atleast difficulty 10 to have a chance to obtain the ring i.e you must complete level 10 and get to 11 for a chance that the chest drops the right ring.

Also, the current way it works is that its all saved to your toon, not to your account. So if you enjoy alts and WvW you will need to get to difficulty 11 on ALL toons, IMO unacceptable. It should be a accountwide save, its an indication of your knowledge about the fractals, since 1-10 gives you squat that you need really.

Also comparing gold to this is just uhm… I dont know what to call it. The jacket doesnt make you better at golf, it all comes down to player vs player skill. The golf example is more like a sPvP player being mad at someone in more shiny sPvP gear because hes more skilled, its just looks.

You arent forced to play to get the jacket to be competative, but WvW players are forced to do dungeons (not PvP) to stay competative in WvW. It doesnt make sense.

WvW should be about player vs player combat, PvE should not have any impact on WvW gameplay.

A questline for both the precursor and the legendary is the only thing that would rightfully make legendaries legendary.

What is legendary about the way they are obtained now. Its all RNG at first then a grind for this and that.

Atleast a legendary quest would be fun and people could do it when they have time and feel like taking a few steps of progression towards it.

A questline for a legendary would be something along the lines of.

Go find the npc that has x in his possession, deafeat him/pass his trial to obtain it. After that go on a long journey across the world and into the depths of tyria and do this and that as a rite. Once you’ve done all steps the weapon turns into its legendary form. Give players some choises for some of the weapons, different paths which inturn gives you a different legendary in the end depending on the characters choises. Doesnt have to apply to all the weapons, but some atleast. Maybe the character takes a more evil path and gets a different look. Consequences of character actions should be stated next to the choise, so you can pick what you like for looks or pick the character choise your toon would do.

Heck it could be a quest just as far reaching as 1-80 was, take a few weeks to complete.

People should also be able to do more than one weapons quest. So those that want to can collect a whole collection or just 3-4 for their weapon setups.

Now that would be fun endgame.

Some form of waypointing system would be nice in them, if it makes bumrushing tactics useless IMO.

A working lfg system would be best, something that isnt based around which server or overflow you are on. The lfg system has already been successful in older games so I dont see whats so hard for Anet to do about it. If they want to start going down WoWs road with tier progression they might aswell implement the only fantastic aspect of WoW dungeoneering i.e RDF (LFG tool).

Fractals, crashing, groups, progression...

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

SneakyErvin.3056

Well the concern of this post is related to crashes/dc’s while in fractals.

As the system is designed you need to finish 3(4) fractals for each difficulty step. Since it went live there has been one major issue with this.

Disconnects and crashes. If someone disconnects and you happen to have an overflow group (most groups nowdays) you are forced to start over. The further you get the harder the blow is.

I’ve had serious bad luck with my mesmer, people have had issues with connections or crashes and I’ve tried to get past difficulty one atleast 5-6 time with constant crashes from group member.

The biggest issue isnt the crash or d/c on its own, its the inability to get back in with your group. Lucky me I havent crashed myself, but many members do.

Worst has been when it happens in the middle or the third mission, when you have already waste roughly 45mins on the other two. Most annoying this was during a a collosus run (3rd on diff 1 that time) the guy with the hammer d/ced and the hammer disappears. The d/c wouldnt have been an issue that time since we were all from the same server, the big issue there was the hammer vanished too.

Same thing has happened in overlfow groups aswell, but there the d/c is the big issue too.

Any urgent plans on fixing this/these issues?

Fun instances, but my oh my are they buggy along with connection issues. Maybe 3 per difficulty wasnt such a smart move to start with, maybe 3 stages per difficulty would be better? Finish 3 randoms at any occasion and move up a step? Seem simple enough to me, why have them tied together all at once?

Lost Shore Event - No Reward [merged]

Uhm… OP… are you new to MMO gaming?

They have logs for everything. It wouldnt take much work seeing who was where when and who did and didnt get loot.

All they need to do to solve it and give everyone that participated rewards is send them a chest in the mail including random drops aswell as the bag/accessory. Only thing they might not be able to account for are food buffs. But they should have a log of positions, time, equipment, event stage, crashes, effort put in (deaths/damage/revives/heals). They should also be able to see the reason why people d/ced and such, if it was loss of connection or regular logout.

Its basic stuff they also use to catch exploiters, cheaters, hackers and bots. If it can be used to weed them out and punish them it should be used to reward people that run into bugs and such aswell.

I got my loot and all, had no isses whatsoever except with culling and some minor ms lag. I still think the unrewarded should get their rewards if there was login issues, crash issues and disconnects. My friend had d/c’s at start but managed to get back into it and stick with us till the end and recieved a nice precusor.

To answer your first question, albeit irrelevant and condescending, I am not. In fact, my wariness comes from what I know about network programming, and the difficulties associated with identifying the cause of a disconnect.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe they do have logs indicating precisely why people disconnected (whether it was a server error, or they lost their connection for some completely different reason, or they just quit the game). In that case, it would make this easier.

I do hope the unrewarded can get their rewards, but I don’t think it’s as simple as many people make it out to be.

But you see it is, unless Anet is using stoneage servers and programming. It worked perfectly way back in DaoC even. Then there is WoW where retroactive rewards were very common due to bugs or other things and then ToR. This game is 8 years younger than WoW, a brand new MMO of 2012. They should have all of that covered.

Maps probably have grid locations, grid locations probably get logged. We have combat logs ingame, there is surely something on their side too. Your character gets downed, rezzed, defeated, or helping others in similar situations, this should be logged somewhere.

Items should also be logged, its been like that for ages in MMOs, your whole character is logged, heck even your QB setup is logged in most games.

If this was 10 years ago it would be a different thing for an inexperienced company, but this is Anet, who has already done GW, an MMO.

There is no excuse as to why unrewarded players should not get the reward retroactivly. We didnt just pay for the software, we payed for CS aswell among other things.

You need to (more or less) use the keyboard and mouse in this game to be able to move, attack and dodge all at the same time.

Thats just how the game is designed.

Also, basic mouse buttons cant be reconfigured in GW2, its by design. I ask myself why everyday. Just like we cant unbind ability/item links on shift or ctrl.

VoIP is not a must, and a decent PuG will manage just fine.

Me and 3 friends along with a PuGer got to level 3 fairly easy, ran into issues on one boss (cthulu) and the piranahs in the dark underwater caverns.

We used very little communication with the PuG, just short plans before a fight regarding supposed obvious boss mechanics or routes. One of my friends was also half sleeping/loaded and it was still pretty much a walk in the part.

Biggest issues with PuGs or bad groups in general is that they dont keep track on health bars, miss too many dodges and miss easily spotted “downed” messages from party members in chat.

Fractals are nowhere near as annoying as the regular dungeons, the fractals play mor like open world events or personal story quests. There are no uber trash mobs, and bosses are fairly easy to understand even BEFORE fighting them.

IMO fractals are PuG friendly to say the least.

The swamp can be an issue, but shouldnt be.

All you need to do is designate wisps before you move from the starting spot. You tell number one to say go when hes about to pick the first (the one that needs to run furthest), when the time starts ticking the other 2 pick theirs and run their kitten off (equip speed boost weapons/utility). The 2 leftover members make sure to block the spider trail and the other, while the guy picking the one by the traps should have ZERO problem going solo.

I see zero problems with how it works. We ran into one issue with it today, but it was a player mistake. A group member died at the wrong spot in the dark underwater cavers and got eaten by the pirahnas. We got around it and nailed it on the next try.

They want people to utilize the rezz functions aswell as caring if people get downed.

If you fall down or die to envoirment you lose nothing and get moved to the closest “save” point. It works like falling and dying in the real world, you lose no durability, also you end up downed and not defeated in the fracts, so you can FA to max health.

If a member in your group died from falling he scrwed up and didnt watch his downed debuff, fall too many times and get a too high debuff resulting in you getting defeated and not downed eventually.

Yep just amazing. I just love how they are designed.

Unlocked difficulty 3 today with 3 friends of mine and a pugger (2 engis, 1 necro, 1 warr, 1 guardian). Was a blast from start to end, had some issues with the jade colossus chtulu thingy, but finaly got him down, we were half nekkid but it died.

I must say veteran mobs mixed with regular mobs as trash feels much more balanced than the silver vets of the other dungeons. Also makes it a bit more pug friendly. Was also much more fun with tricky objectives along the path, traps, wisps, JPs etc etc.

Bosses felt very balanced and fun. Felt more right and fun with the mix of regular trash, fun traps and stuff and balanced bosses. It was also doable in an acceptable amount of time.

If youcould only rework the other dungeons to be roughly the same. Regular vets, fun bosses and less chaos.

I just thought of a thing regarding Ascendant gear, itemization, PvE and WvW.

Maybe, just maybe it will just be like this. Ok here goes.

The ring we have seen is stacked with MF along with power and presicion, and an infusion slot but no gem slot (since its already calculated into the ring. Perhaps there will only be a select few types of rings, that all have MF as the major stat.

Con, pres, MF
Vit, pow, MF
Pow, pres, MF
Vit, con, MF

Then the infusion (offensive, defensive, omni) will decide the rest for the instance.

Offensive = +damage dealt to karka
Defensive = Reduced agony damage taken

Maybe thats close to how it will work. This way no one would freely use ascendant gear in WvW and those that do are far behind in useful stats (MF = Bad) and infusions wont have any impact on non karka.

We just cant know for sure until the patch is out.

And regarding Legendaries. It’s not a big issue if they are of ascendant level if they keep the stat combos they currently have (pow, tough, vit), because the choices are very limited. Reskinning an exotic would probably still be better to fit your spec.

Dear GW2: I don't want to be *your* hero.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

SneakyErvin.3056

The biggest letdown in almost every MMO is that you always have to be the good guy.

WoW was semi different, you were good to your faction, but atleast you had an enemy faction. However everything regarding PvE was good guy stuff.

DaoC, WaR and SWToR were different.

DaoC had 3 realms, none that were good or evil. The only true evil was in Darkness Falls really, but your character didnt have to be a hero anyways. The struggles within the realm were more an everyday fight for survival.

WaR was pretty much the same, good and evil could be discussed, although many probably saw orcs, dark elves and chaos as evil.

ToR same deal, Sith vs Jedi, good/evil was a point of view and opinion really. Plus you could be lightside Sith or darkside Jedi.

GW2 forces you to be the hero with a big H. Something I really dislike. I would love to be able to play an evil kind of character, force my will upon others through magic or steel and so on. I cant be a crazy evil engineer that wants to blow LA into pieces, or a necro in Zhaitans service, or a norn dedicated to Jormag.

I had the same gripe in D3, hero after hero, but never a chance to see it from the other side as an agent of big D.

The MMO industry really needs more immersive character choices. Pacifists, terrorists, antagonists, heroes, villains, misanthropes, humanitarians, thieves, murderers, lawmen and so on.
