The Death of Alts...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Anet is slowly killing off alts and I don’t understand why… Alts are one of the main driving forces to keep players around, yet every decision kills them a little more.

1. It started with fractals… oh fractals are character bound so you can progress on each characters… (i.e. screw you alts, you have to run 50 fractal runs just to get back to the skill level you are at)

2. Next was laurels… Oh sorry this reward is account bound so your alts will take forever to gear up…

3. Then came daily bonus chests… what you only made alts to get bonus rares? L2GW2!!!

4. Next came WvW ranks… oh you want to play an alt in WvW, sucks to be you, all your bonuses are gone now (i.e. “progression”)

5. After that came time gated crystals… oh you can only get one of these magical crystals a day, good luck ever building gear with these crystals on your alts… that will take 100 years…

6. Here we arrive today with dungeon rewards being switched to account bound for gold AND tokens.

Every time one of these things happened the blind Anet defenders came and swarmed shouting their typical chant… "what you only play alts for X, Learn 2 GW2 and play the “right” way!"

Well guess what… there is no longer a single area of the PvE game left that alts aren’t penalized for, guess it’s time for a new excuse.

This is the reason why I pretty much stopped playing GW2 alltogether. I took a break to play Neverwinter, game didnt offer much so I decided to go back and play GW2. I played for a few days and then it struck me again, kitten they hate alts. Since then I havent logged on again, because the grind is just too big.

It’s much more grindy than any MMO I’ve previously played. I would be fine if everything was per character i.e 1 daily per character to get 1 laurel per character, like how fractals and relics works. Things are too time gated.

I’ll be going to FF14 when it goes live this month.

I dont think any former sub based game that goes F2P will be much of a competition for a F2P based game. However, other F2P based games might give GW2 competition, like Neverwinter Online, which I personally enjoy alot at the moment.

I agree with OP and it’s a reason I gave up on GW2 dailies and pretty much the game as a whole just recently. Currently I’m not even logging in anymore, I’m trying out neverwinter and find it much more fun and alt friendly.

Sadly it doesnt have much PvP in the way I like, like WvW type of PvP, but my PvP needs are met by playing BF3. I found the NW PvE part and leveling much more fun.

GW2 really needs to broaden their laurel system and let us do dailies/monthlöies on each toon if we like. Make laurels soul bound if needed. Some will say economy will get kittened up… well it already is, and it’s not a big issue.

Stealth and why it reduces depth and skill

Actually, with the lack of the trinity I find it odd they kept the gimmicky stealth of “rogue” classes. Would be more appropriate to move away from the core mechanic that stealth is when they remove the trinity.

I mean, former healer and tank players have adapted, why shouldnt the stealther community be able to adapt?

Atleast most other MMOs have some form of stealth detection. I far prefer the “old school” stealth system that included perma stealth, but if you got hit you got knocked out of stealth. It was a good system for letting the stealther get the opening, but if they failed they had to suffer the consequences.

Current GW2 stealth is far better than other MMO stealth, since no one can really stop a thief that fails and wants to run off.

It was fun, looked great and all that. But the same old boring problem persists, lack of loot for the work done. There is really no point, for me atleast, to run it again. There just isnt anything special about it the second run.

The glove token reward from the meta achievment was kinda nice, if it wasnt for the fact that the gloves just looks awkward on most armor sets. I’m still saving the token, because I dont know which toon the gloves will fit on. If the color of the molten effect would be dyable it would be different, but currently it only looks decent on my warrior, but there there problem comes with shoulders and clipping issues, due to too big spikes on the molten part of the gloves. On other toons they are just too bulky.

Why do stuff need to be so pointy, why couldnt the molten metal parts be on the gloves and not halfway up the arm of the character?

In my opinion, GW2 is dying

So put the game down for a month or 3 games like GW2 even GW1 where not made to be played every day with out any other games alone with it. This is no “WoW owning your life type game” so play any of the countless single player games that has what you want.

It was possible to do this prior to the daily patch that introduced a poor time gated system. Currently, GW2 has more of a daily pull and “owning your life type game” feel to it that WoW had when I quit. They had a few flaws in WoW with time gated content with their weekly caps, but you could spend the time as you liked to get those caps done.

GW2 forces me to atleast do the dailies every day, it’s still much much much more alt unfriendly than even WoW was. Atleast in WoW you could do dailies on each toon everyday and progress them individually. Something you cant do in GW2 “the no grind MMO”.

This is out of a perspective that you want to maximize your character, which I enjoy doing, it’s part of the end game progress, instead of getting perks and stats from levels, you get it from your gear.

For me, WvW is also starting to lack alot, sPvP is dull and small, dungeons feel old, fractals feel old and pointless. Leveling another toon to 80 (have 5 so far) feels pointless since it requires another 2 months to fully gear it with what is currently available.

From being a really casual game that was about fun, where you could level alts, gear them and enjoy other aspects of the game, it has turned into (in my opinion) the slowest MMO to progress in that I have played. Not only that, but farming isnt even enjoyable, since loot is too kitten random and boring.

I log in once per day to do dailies, then there is nothing else to do, and I doubt the patch today will change it.

Boon Hate is brutally unfair to guardians.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SneakyErvin.3056

What I dont like about boon hate isnt boon hate on its own. It’s that some classes are forced into proccing boons in order to reach the higher traits in a line, even if they arent interested in the minor mandatory boon traits. Like Elixir B proc at 75% health, at 75% health the enginner suddenly takes 9% more damage from a boon hate warrior, when the trait should really help the engi instead.

This would be a great time for Anet to rework how minor traits work and gives us something like 3 options per minor trait tier. So 9 in total, but they should be unique to the tier, so a t1 minor trait cant go in t2 or t3 and so on. This way we would get options that are free of boons if we want.

Introducing boon hate with mandatory forced boons in the minor traits is not nice.

But when I listen to music its alot of metal, black, death, pagan, viking, power, thrash, techno, industrial and so on. Besides that I listen to some Billy Idol at times and viking rock.

I can safely say, it’s alot of Amon Amarth, Marduk, Watain, Unleashed and Slayer in the loop.

Why have profanity filter? An answer

But isnt it hypocrisy to disable the filter then complain and report people who use “bad” words? Leave it on and you wont see the “bad” words, you activley pick to have it turned off. Why? Just to complain?

It’s not hard to figure out what someone “really” said if you see, “Kitten you, you kitten kitten.” Maybe someone who reports such things doesn’t like seeing someone go off like that in a public chat channel?

I don’t really know the mindset, though, as I’ve never reported someone for cussin’ in chat. If I find someone’s chat behavior annoying, I’m going to block and forget them.

But it’s filtered none the less so shouldnt be reportable. Otherwise there is absolutley no reason to have the filter in the first place. And as I said, there are far more serious phrases being said in chats, something the filter cant handle.

Currently it really only screws things up, like names for example. There are real world names you just cant use, because they include a “bad” word. And there are several words which dont have an offensive meaning in every case, still the filter doesnt recognize such.

I never report people, unless I suspect a bot, hacker or cheater/exploiter. Words dont bother me, not even in-game life threats. I usually just laugh about it when people get upset to that point. It has happened alot, mostly when I played WoW. I cant count the number of times I had life threatening tells sent to me or threads made on the forum about how worthless my life was and that I should kill myself, just because I loved ganking.

It gives me a good laugh, sine I know it’s mostly empty words and those that really mean it probably lack the braincapacity to even find where I live.

The empty can rattles the most.

Also, the filter is pretty bad, for instance, something like the word kittencat or the name kitten gets filtered, even when used in a lastname like Bruce kitteninson and so on.

In my mind people are to sensitive when it comes to words. Words are just word, filtering the “bad” words wont do anything about the more morbid part of the word usage on the net, like the ones that straight out threatens someone or their families life.

“If you dont keep your mouth shut I’m gonna kill your dog and make you choke on it”

See, this isnt stopped by the filter, and its far worse than a simple line like “kitten you”.

It doesnt add up in my mind.

New raid dungeon? can't wait...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

SneakyErvin.3056

As soon as the word “raid” is mentioned people think of the WoW type raid.
Which is far from an original idea. GW2 open world events are raids in the way raids were back in DaoC, same with WvW really, it’s also DaoC inspired.

People saying WoW raids are the only real raids are fools. Darkness Falls, now that was a raid where you had to be on your toes. Not due to monsters all the time, although they got deadly the deeper you went, but due to enemy players from two other factions. There was no need to group up into WoW-style raid groups, you just tagged along GW2 style, killed stuff, people, monsters and claimed loot.

WoW type raids are just one type in a long line of raid encounters. GW2 open world boss events are just as much raids as WoW raids.

But then again I’m not surprised those comments come from WoW. They also whine on the forums about braindead boss mechanics and compare dungeon bosses here to raid bosses in WoW instead of comparing them to 5 man bosses from WoW. Both being equally simple when you know the mechanics.

And Amun Ra. Saying WoW is the king of MMOs is like saying Bieber is the king of music. Even within the MMO genre there are sub genres, where games dont need to be mainstream like WoW to be successful, especially not the ones that follow a non-subscription plan. WoW must have a huge playerbase, otherwise they’d lose hundreds of millions $ per month. So they cater to a larger crowd, much like pop artists.

In my opinion boon hate should be boon stripping. Something more classes should be able to spec for in certain trait lines.

There is no need to expand the buffers just because you expand the strippers, there is a reason why they want to introduce boon hate in some way. But then again, stripping or extra damage would be a spec thing, depending on class, some get it for free like necro.

April 30th patch sounds impressive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

SneakyErvin.3056

To me it doesnt sound very impressive. This is probably because of my taste and which part of the game interests me. However, some things just seem very poor for a “major content update”. Earlier they said March+April would be the big patches in the F&F storyline. So onto my thinking.

Story dungeon: Is this the same type of hoax dungeon we had last patch? The ones that seemed cool when reading about them, but doing them got boring and pointless after the first go. “Daily account bound reward” turned out to be a tiny karma buff, at a time when karma is barely worth getting. And we were allowed to get 1 per day, wow.

WvW skills: More skill can sure be nice, but after the lag flopp after last patch my inspiration to PvP in this game declined. I have pretty much only farmed gold the last month and finaly tweaked the gear on my toons, lookwise and statwise. I also did a few name changes, but now that thats done, my need for gold is minimal, so farming gold another month isnt really an option.

sPvP+Spectator: Nothing that interests me one little bit, if I want smallscale PvP that is more open and epic, I’ll just play BF3 Rush games, it gives me a better PvP fix than sPvP could ever do. Plus it has real objectives and large maps.

Then there are the things that doesnt seem to get patched.

-Fractal content
-New Dungeons
-New 80 zones
-PvP ascended gear
-Crafted ascended gear
-Dungeon ascended gear
-More fractal ascended gear
-Removal of time gated progression
-Reinstatement of an alt friendly reward system (it used to be there)
-Achievment reward system. Laruels did seem to be part of this but now there is talk of yet another currency. And this all was supposed to go live during F&F. So far nothing, except pointless leaderboards.

and so on…

I love the game, but I’m wondering more and more each day why I log on. Then it hits me, dailies and guild missions. Thatd about all I do, log on do daily, log off and play something else, then log on if there are guild missions to get my comms. The time gated content and alt unfriendlyness that comes with it is what is driving me away slowly, more and more for every patch.

The Mass Berserker Mindset

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

SneakyErvin.3056

That’s a good point someone brought up. Some people are playing on machines that can’t keep up, or have intermittent lag spikes on their internet, or they are living in Australia and there’s sometimes latency issues. I don’t think any of that makes bezerker gear better for everyone.

Thats the fault of the player then, and the group shouldn’t have to carry a bad player, regardless of the reason why he/she is bad, be it sub-par physical or mental capabilities, or a sub-par computer/internet connection. Bad players are bad players.

So you’re saying everyone in another country is a bad player? LMAO. Okay there. Add to the list of people I’d never consider grouping with.

Anyone who performs worse than the top 50% of the population is a bad player by definition of being sub-par.

The reasons why they perform worse than 50% of the population is irrelevant, and the game doesn’t recognize this anyway. Only the fact that they don’t perform up to par.

There is no certainty that 50% is the right number for subpar. You can have 20% being sub par, 21-80% being on par and the rest above par. We have no clue what it looks like in the community, what the “skill field” looks like. It’s only assumptions, there are no set numbers that half the community is below avarage skill.

And as I said in the other post, balanced gear is the best way to go. Enough defense to survive getting hit, but not too much to impact your damage too heavily.

Why are Condition Builds < Berzerker

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SneakyErvin.3056

SneakyErvin.3056

Big numbers vs massives of small numbers will always look better to some people. Sure conditions might be lacking a bit in PvE, but in WvW they just destroy. Running around with close to 3k armor, 21k HP+ (depending on WvW buffs) and 1600condi unbuffed is alot of fun in WvW.

GCs melt in seconds, and it’s very easy to reapply condis. Plus you have alot of defense from high armor, high health (well not THAT high) and forms. It’s also not hard to get 18-20 stacks of bleeds fast on the enemy, at which point they tick down quickly.

For me its roughly 2250/sec with 15 stacks, something that is very easy to apply. And the chance for them to cleanse the bleed is small, since they have weakness, chill, blind and poison to deal with too.

However condition classes need skill to handle, well, experience with playing the class. You need to know when to use which skill vs which class and so on.

For PvE condi necros are amazing tanks. Very easy to hold and get aggro, they are annoying on inanimate encounters (blizzard fractal mid event), other than that they deal great sustained damage. Only downside is, you really only ever need one necro, since they pretty much keep their stacks close to 25 on their own, if you bring more, they will be in eachothers way when it comes to stacks. For events conditions are boring and needs a rework, but condition specs are far from weak.

I just have to ask the people negative to the dungeons, fractals and boss mechanics one thing.

Are you honestly saying WoW 5-man boss mechanics were any different? They were also huge piles of HP with gimmicky attacks. Not even heroics were hard, same deal, a few new mechanics, still the same braindead encounter. Atleast in GW2 you need to be aware and dodge/block etc.

I was bored to my mind from WoW dungeons and SWToR dungeons when I started with GW2, barely touched dungeons here since I feared it was the same boredom. I was wrong, dungeons were fun, needed a bit more attention and so on. Only boring side was the lack of loot. It’s still lightyears ahead of most other MMOs. Fractals in my mind are amazing, some regular exp dungeons could use a revamp, both dungeons and fractals could use a loot upgrade, thats about it.

If you survive easily you have too much defense and could have more offense and do things faster.

Anyways I’m bit curious, how do you people know everyone melting in seconds is running Berserkers or if pvt-gear would even make any difference? Do you ask them to link their gear? Play with them again when they use pvt-gear?

Standard veteran mob standing next to boss drops an AOE on half the group.
2 players who were at full health are suddenly in the downed state, and me standing right next to them – I’ve barely suffered 10%.

- That happens way to often.

Guess who’s group now has to 3-man the boss and adds? Or I can leave the other two still up to 2-man it while I rez the zerkers, only to see them faceplant on the very next AOE…

Oh and, if you survive – it means you had just the right amount of defensive stats.

That happens way too often. It’s been a regular thing then I play my warrior. I stand there up close and personal with 2 other warriors or other squishy geared people, kaboom AoE, I keep standing there, wondering where the other 2 guys went. Then I take a look at the floor and there they are. Then I just back up, dump some arrows and combo fields. Or I avoid the AoE with a dodge, F4 LB, then evisc back into the fight, since I’m not caught up by looking at “huge” numbers from my 100B.

I dont think I’ll ever go back to full zerk gear on any of my toons after trying more defensive combinations. I just got tired of some situations that would down me if I screwed up. Now I can take the semi heavy hits and dodge the planet killers, earlier the semi heavy hits would be planet killers aswell, so dodge had to be more stressed.

Well, at least I know I don’t have to take both of you seriously anymore.
I have 2127 armor and 18372 health. When I get one-shot and you take only 10% of your maximum health you would need:
21270 armor
OR
183720 health
OR (optimal)
6251 armor and 62510 health

Math: Effective was used (Armor * VItality). To take 10% damage you need to have 10 times as much effective health. You get biggest effective health when Armor * 10 = Health (because Vitality gives 10 Health). So best Armor is X when X * X * 10 = 39077244 * 10 -> X = 6251. Then Vitality is just 10X.

You do know, you dont get any credibility for quoting someone and claiming they said something. I wasnt the one saying anything about 10%, still you quoted my post along with his. I was just agreeing with him that it’s just too usual to see zerkers go down around you when you are still standing.

It has nothing to do with 10% or what , it’s a matter of being downed or standing, giving the rest of the group an annoying time getting you back on your feet and having to stop their dps. In the end if you dont manage to stay on your feet in zerk gear as much as the guy in mixed gear you will deal less damage overall and force your group to deal less damage while rezzing you. And since many zerkers go down alot, they also deal less damage in the long run compared to someone that goes up and down between 100-25 during the fight/dungeon.

Rezzing someone isnt just a downside on dps, it’s also has the downside of snatching aggro quite often.

No actually, I’m just talking about myself.
Also there’s nothing magical here (like opinions).

So you are a dirtnapping warrior soloing exps? How does that add up? No j/k, but then yes you are part of the exception when it comes to dirtnapping, congrats to you, but it doesnt mean berserk gear is superior to everything else.

And regarding second paragraph. Because the difference in survivability is very obvious between zerk and mixed zerk+survival gear. Some things just doesnt one hit someone in mixed gear. I’ve noticed it easily myself when I made the changes to my gear. Things that would one hit me in zerk gear just shaves off part of my health instead.

So if someone gets one shot, they most likely are in full zerk gear. Also you say people have too much defense if they survive easily, but where does the line go? I find it’s nice to have alot of dodge juice, I also find it very nice to have enough toughness to survive if I do get hit, that way I will deal constant damage instead of going down on an unlucky hit.

As I said before, balance is the best way. In my opinion atleast. If someone gets downed, they deal less damage and their group needs to stop dealing damage in order to get the person up. And this happens alot.

@killcannon.2576: They do effect skills, your enemies skill, they make them weaker or force them to attacking you more times.

@Sprawl.3891: Nice subtle way of claiming you are skilled. Still other attributes would make it easier for the rest of the group, so you just come off as sounding selfish and ignorant to the greater good of the situation.

And food for thought. In WvW, what use is there for full zerk gear really? All you need is enough damage to make your enemy go to zero, anything above that is wasted and would be better spent on defensive stats to give you a higher chance to not reach zero as quickly. I guess it’s something that has stuck with me since WoW and SWToR, resilience and exprtise, it really is the same effect you get from toughness/armor.

It worked brilliantly in those games aswell. Here it’s just not a special PvP set, here people decide if they want glasscannon PvE gear (zerk) or resilience PvP gear (added toughness). Same concept. Expertise however increased damage done aswell as reduicing damage recieved, so 2 people with the same expertise didnt get a real boost versus eachother.

And still somehow those dirtnapping Berserker Warriors end up soloing whole dungeons.

No they dont. You are talking about a select amount of zerk warriors that actually know how to play in their zerk gear, not dirtnappers.

And regarding the “zerk > everything else”, pre the guild mission patch I ran with a very small guild, we had a 5 man that did fractals, switched one guy from time to time depending if our regular was on or not.

Our group was made up of a tanky warrior, my engi, a guardian, a mesmer and then another engi or mesmer depending on who was on. We never had issues with dps, 3 of us were full out zerk at the time, my engi, the guardian and the mesmer. Still we managed to take bosses down very quickly.

Dredge suit/Elemental usually died during the second cauldron drop.
Old Tom died after the second switch.

And so on…

This was with classes that are said to be weak when it comes to damage in PvE or damage in general. I’ve been in plenty of full zerk groups that just fail over and over, because people just die.

A dead person deals zero damage.

@killcannon.2576: You forget that toughness helps with aggro control, something that adds alot for someone going the support route. Rabid necros for instance are aggro magnets and can take a good beating while still dealing nice damage. If you are very confident with avoiding attacks through dodge and other means, toughness will benefit your group greatly, since those that might not be so great at dodging will have aggro less often. On a warrior it’s just amazing, since you have infinite dodge juice.

Balance is the best way to go.

Out of the 3 I’d have to say necro. It’s very easy to level and they are tough as hell. Largest healthpool ingame along with warriors. Tons of conditions in forms of damage, debuffs, slows and so on.

I’m not sure how the non condition necros are, I’ve been condition spec on mine since beta and love it. People find it weak, but its infact strong when you learn the class. Really fun in both WvW and PvE. The pets are very buggy though, but there are many other great utilities to use, so it’s not a big issue.

With toughness, condition and precision gear they will be able to take a massive beating and deal a very nice amount of damage through their conditions.

It’s probably the fastest class that I have leveled.

Reason they dont match EU vs US servers in sPvP and WvW is due to lag for whichever side that has to log onto the others continent.

It’s still possible for those in the EU or US to transfer to the other region, but it’s their choice, so the lag isnt forced upon one continent or the other.

And I doubt china will have the option to transfer, since it’s a very closed up country with a very special internet. They will most likely have just their own shards, both when it comes to the game and the TP.

I prefer mixed gear myself, only toon with a full set of a specific prefix is my necro in rabid gear.

Most others are either in a mix of zerk/valk/knight/pvt depending on class. I set my mind on stat numbers I want aswell as rune set bonuses I want, then I make my set. With high dodge classes, like warrior and engi I enjoy the extra toughness, since it lets me get aggro more easily so my group can worry less. Guardian already has great survivability and mitigation, so I just decided on getting enough valk gear to get him to 16k hp, rest is zerk.

It also depends alot on playstyles. This game is not a min-max game like WoW or other similar MMOs, there are no cookie cutter specs in the same way, options are wider, same with armors.

But congrats to the zerkers that find themselves above others because they can beat CoF x seconds shorter than a mixed group. You truely are the gods amongst us lesser mortals.

It’s the only thing I currently do in game. After dailies I usually log off, hopefully we will get something that takes a bit longer to complete and have fun with than the previous patches.

Last good patch was the fractal patch, it gave me something to do on a regular basis. Every patch after that has been very short on content and it has stripped everything that was alt friendly. They have only added weekly (G-missions)and daily things to do, that take about 30 minutes per day and can only be done with one character.

I just save what laurels I get for my alts and incase they add something new on the laurel vendor.

You need like what, over 600 used pickaxes for it to be worth?
Way to waste your money.
And it’s soulbound too. By that time gw3 will be out.

Why do people never think before they buy? Learn to use your brain and do some math.

Edit: Here, for the people who never learned math:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1citm3/60000_uses_before_the_molten_alliance_pick_is/

Yep, I still dont know why people buy them. Depending on what I farm I go through ½-1 pickaxe (50-100 uses) per day, thats a minimum of 600 days before I see any benefit from the infinite one. We can say it would take me an avarage of 2 years if I farm every single day. And this is without counting in karma bought picks that are free.

People think they have gone even when they’ve gotten the gold back that they spent, but they miss the big picture, the effective uses of 1 infinite vs 600ish regular picks.

Never been a fan of the flashy looking weapons in any game.

I’m not sure why so many game companies think flashy as soon as the word legendary pops up. I’d much rather have a good looking clean weapon, a mace or hammer with ornaments that strikes your foe with thunderblasts when you hit them in combat.

Currently the legendaries are kinda awful in my mind, too over the top. Now days everything is so FF over the top its not even funny. If I wanted oversized sparkly greatswords or overzied greatswords in general I’d pick FF or any other asian MMO on the market.

I’m glad there are still choises that lets us avoid the “legendary” weapons. The mystic weapons I do like, because they look very special in their own way and usually have a nice theme to them. Fractal weapons just look yuck. F&F skins look lovely for the most part, just enough magic fluff going on, the axes are probably some of my favorites when it comes to looks, I’m a sucker for fire.

After roughly 60000-62500 uses you will benefit from it compared to orichalcum picks. The actual number goes up and down depending on gem costs when you buy it. Before that, orichalcum picks will net you a higher profit per node.

It might be a nice conveniance item due to freed up bag space. Might be fun for the animation if you like that kinda thing.

But its alot of uses before you actually make a profit over orichalcum picks.

The “lack” of weapon skills is what caught my interest with this game. I honestly think I use more skills in this game than in any other MMO, even though it has less skills, but then in return they are all effective.

I played WoW for several years, before that I played DaoC and SWG. Somewhere in between I tried WaR and STO, after I quit WoW for good I played SWToR. I actually think the only games where I used the same amount of skills would be DaoC and SWG and maybe STO.

WoW and SWToR just had so many skills that were rarely used. 4-5 skills on a regular basis would be enough. In GW2 I use all my skills, easily 10+ skills at any given situation with any class, except when farming. With an elementalist it goes up to 25 skills, not counting the F1-F4 attunements, with them its 29 skills.

<—-Atheist. Not sure how not believing in something is a belief system. (Sorry, just trying to speed up the process.)

But thats just it. Atheism is just too broad to be covered with one word and label. You say you are an atheist, but what kind of atheist are you? Several of the atheistic branches serve as beliefs, they are however not religions. Then there are some religions where its possible to be atheist and still part of it.

Agnostic = Believes that there is some form of higher being(s), but they arent sure what they really believe in. They havent found the religion that fits their way of thinking. Many never find a religion to settle with.

No, absolutely not. Agnostics don’t belief that their is a form of higher being(s), they are just convinced that that’s a question that probably will never be answered. Agnostics are not in search of a religion, they may or may not belief in gods or anything like that. In fact, most of them, at least in Europe (according to a survey from 2010) don’t belief in gods.

Oh and by the way: Saying that just cause atheists are convinced that their is no god makes atheism a belief is not very impartial.

No it can have many meanings. It’s very common for people to say that they are agnostic when they arent sure what they believe, when they are still searching. It also has a number of other meanings, regarding faith and not knowing for certain if there is or isnt a god. There are also agnosticism that claims god is beyond human comprehension, that he resides in a world we will never understand. There are also agnostic atheists.

And regarding the atheist thing. But it is nothing more than a belief since there is no proof for or against the exsistance of gods, so all both sides can do is believe.

When something isnt 100% sure and proved, it’s a belief. Religions are made up of belief systems. Atheism may not be religion, but it is a belief and some atheists religiously try to find proof that there are no gods.

Atheism in itself is a wide “label”, it reaches from someone that lacks faith to the kind that believes that gods dont exsist, the latter is a belief.

edit: Yes modern satanism is also a thing related to atheism, but its a belief still the same. They still have very diabolical rituals and something they call spiritfire, the black flame. Satan not being an entity but instead resides inside everyone, the primal force, instincts and the carnal. Something that goes far back to old paganism. It’s not theistic satanism, but it still has alot of rituals and spiritual beliefs, like believing there is a spirit afterall.

It would still matter if God exsisted even if he gave man free will, there is a little catch. If you arent godfearing and do as God wants to and live by his word, you can use the free will he gave you, but if you do (this is the catch) perdition awaits you for not following the word of God. It’s just like the omnipotent God test. Can God make a stone so heavy that he cant lift it?

No neither you or Vayne.8563 get what I’m saying.

Atheist = Convinced that there are no gods, many also seek to prove there are no gods. The certainty that there are no gods and the seeking to prove it makes it a belief, since no one fully knows, so all they can do is believe they are right and that there is proof. Just like religious people have no clue if what they believe in is true.

Agnostic = Believes that there is some form of higher being(s), but they arent sure what they really believe in. They havent found the religion that fits their way of thinking. Many never find a religion to settle with.

Monotheist = Dedicated to a religion of one single god. It doesnt mean other religions arent accepted, except for a few select ones we know of. Some even welcome people of other creeds into their holy houses, even if they arent there to praise their god.

Polytheists = Dedicated to a pantheon of gods (Norse, Greek/Roman, Native American, Hindu etc.). Often very open minded towards other religions, could be due to the fact they already worship many different gods.

Unbelievers/Non-Believers = They just dont believe, they are just regular people that dont care if someone is religious.

Atheists annoy me as much as bible thumpers and everyone else that tries to convince you that they are right.

And regarding Thor and Loki. They arent demigods in the myth, maybe in the Marvel stories, but not in the lore. A demigod is usually a supernatural being with one parent who is a god and the other a human. Thor is a pureblood aesir and Loki is of giants blood.

I’m the open minded kind myself, I see the possibility that there might be something higher. I see it as this, if there is one type of god, there are all types of gods. Every culture is different in some way, why shouldnt the gods be. I also dont bother with prayers, temples, offerings or anything else. If my gods are there on the final day so be it, if not, then atleast I didnt waste time in my life with unanswered prayers, being in temples or sacrificial offerings.

edit: This is also why I dont understand the OPs point of view. He/she just seems to try too hard to be an atheist when he takes it to an entertainment level. It’s ok as there is no pro or against propaganda, aslong as it’s fictional religions. I just wonder what movies, books, music or other games he avoids if he dislikes even fictional religion.

Most superheroes have god like powers and would most likely be described as gods if they were written a few hundred years back. Thor and Loki a prime example, perfectly fitting as superheroes/villains.

edit2: Missed the comment earlier in a post about Hitler germany. Hitlers party members were far from atheists, they were very much the oposite. It was a very christian, something germans could relate to, an easy way to get the people to hate jews. Then there was the Thule organization, some mumbojumbo mysticism department with a mission to find old treasures (yes like seen in Indiana Jones, Hellboy and so on) with special powers. Wagner was also a highly liked composer due to his works having germanic themes.

This has later crossed over into the white power movement in many countries, with the Faith, Folk and Family mindset, white christians are the only ones who should be allowed to live according to them, the rest are just scum of the earth. Like a european KKK, they just dont waste so many bed sheets. Only differance is, instead of the extra love for germanic myths, they see it as impure pagan filth, a mistake done by Hitler putting those faiths on par with christianity. Germanic symbols are common within some groups anyways, but those dont follow the FFF ways.

Atheism itself is a religion.

I will not get into this argument on the internet again. I will not get into this argument on the internet again. I will not get into this argument…

But honestly, hes right, it is. If you label yourself atheist, it’s the same as labeling yourself as christian, muslim, wicca or whatever. You believe in something, or well, you are trying to prove that there are no gods. So its a form of religion a.k.a a belief.

Unlbelievers and agnostics is a different story. Unbelievers just dont believe, they dont get bothered by religion. Agnostics arent sure what they believe in, but there is something.

Atheists are trying to prove the non-exsistance of gods. I honestly dont see the point of atheism, let people believe in whatever gods they chose if that helps them through life. Why try and disprove what cant harm you? It’s not like it would stop wars and create peace if you one day actually manage to prove the non-exsistance of gods, we mankind, will still find things to bicker about and go to war over.

Currently the events are much too simple, with the exception of the Orr events, those are all fun and feel more alive, since the bosses will chase you and can infact kill you if you dont pay attention.

The rest are a pile of cowdung, dragons are the least epic monsters in the game, except for the looks. I avoid most world events even though they give me 1 rare per day each, since they are so awfully boring. Not good when people avoid free loot due to a thing being too boring. There is only profit to be had from the bosses, but I cant stand doing them since they are simple, no brain activities. Heck the champ abom in the plinxx chain is more deadly than any dragon.

Also, why does the Arah chain event not reward a daily chest at the end when its harder than every non-Orr boss out there?

I honestly dont see the problem or really the point of the question at hand. I think you are taking atheism a step further than needed.

It’s a fictional world with actual gods, thats the story of the game. It’s still fiction, there is nothing pro or against the gods and faiths of our own world. There is a need for gods due to the depth of the story. Doesnt matter if its positivity towards the gods or negativity, aslong as it doesnt bash our real world cultures its fine. They can borrow things from our world, thats ok, but do it in a respectful manner.

It opens up options for your character, flavor in skill, depth in story, design of the cities and the world. Without gods we would have no temples really in the same sense.

The difference between Need and Want

If all you think about is winning fights, and optimal characters (by stats) then there’s nothing else for me to say to you. Other people really do get what I’m talking about.

People who play games like Skyrim or Dragon Age, they don’t worry about the same type of optimal you do. This is where the RPG part of the game really gets lost in the math. The fact that you see this as the only way to be optimal means to me that we’re playing very different games.

I just don’t care about stats all that much, and never will. But when my character looks the way I want him/her too, that’s optimal to me.

Please understand what I’m saying before commenting. I’m talking about optimal preformance, about making a character the best they can be when playing with or against others.

Want, need, force and grind all come into the big picture.

Us that want the best gear to be optimal, need to grind what we are forced into since there are few options. We set out to do what there is to do in the game to progress our character to be the best he/she can be. We want more options to do so.

You who dont care much about stats or optimal gear is the one that makes the optional choice. But the OP is making it sound like its us, that want to experience and have the best possible equipment to make our toons the most optimal we can, who are doing something thats “optional” and not forced on us.

Just the dailies alone is proof of forced content, since we cant decide to skip it some days a week without falling behind. It’s worse than a system where everyone can grind at their own pace.

You are making the active optional choice to not be part of the different things in the game. We play the game for what it is and take part in everything it has to offer. It’s no different to want BiS gear compared to wanting max level on a character. It’s all about forging your character, little by little as content is released.

Stats is the only progression we can work on right now that improves the effectivness of the toon. I dont want to grind gear, I would be happy if exo was the best possible gear, but since it isnt I want to improve my character(s) the way I can, which happens to be through ascended gear, it’s just not a choice.

This is in order to be optimal in situations where I play with others. Since thats how I am, I do it for the good of me and my fellow players, since its a cooperative game not only outside of WvW, where my server is still my friends.

And when it comes to WvW winning is all, thats what its about, winning is fun. So of course aiming for best gear for best possible odds on the outcome of a fight is a nobrainer for me.

Even if some dont take “stalking” as the OP mentioned seriously enough since its online “stalking” in a game, it’s still “stalking”.

It leads to an uncomfortable time while online, leading to a less fun gaming experience. This is something that shouldnt be tolerated IMO, since the game is supposed to be fun for everyone.

Or is this where the part “online experience may vary from person to person” comes in?

I also have a feeling that many people in this thread are actually “stalkers”.

Whether or not someone is being stalked, or whether or not someone is doing the stalking is not imperative to the point of implementing such a feature. It has a much wider range of effect than just that one aspect.

I think you see so many are so jaded because of the “boy who cried wolf” syndrome. The definitions of stalking are not subjective, though the perception of it is. That leads to a disparity.

I think we can all mostly agree that there has been a standard set by the MMO industry, for many different reasons, and there doesnt seem to be much justification for doing things differently in GW2.

Implement what feature?

GW2 is currently doing, what most other MMOs did fine, completely wrong with a utterly broken anon system.

Updating locations even when invis.
Giving people on your friends list log on/log out messages when you are invis or want to be at log in.
Removing your ability to sea guild chat while being invis (WTF?).

Among other bad things.

I would love to see a system where you have to accept a friend before you get a follower. I would also love to be able to log in as invis, like you can in Origin for example and STO if you check a box 1 single time.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SneakyErvin.3056

You cant seperate want, need, force and grind. They are all connected even if you (OP) like it or not.

The core of MMOs is wanting to improve your character. With want comes need, need is often connected to forced duties or grind. If you want to improve your character to give it top preformance along with your skill you NEED ascended gear even if you dont feel like grinding for it.

There is a limited way of obtaining it but it is a must if you want BiS gear for your character. It’s only optional in the open world. For instances, WvW and fractals you will want it to be most beneficial to your group (you honestly dont want worse gear when you can obtain better).

You are forced to do the daily each day to not fall behind, even if you dont want to, there is no option to catch up on missed dailies at the end of the week. 7 dailies per week would be better, they could all be done on sunday before reset. Less stress, more options day by day.

You are forced to do dailies to get laurels if you want ascended necks, no other way.

Optional things are cosmetical things. Things that increase your stats and lets your character preform better are not optional.

Okay…this is where some of us different. There are people playing this game that would rather have a cosmetic upgrade than something that gives them better stats. You’re right, everyone wants to “improve” their character but not everyone sees stats as the only or even best way to improve them.

I see the best way to improve my character as getting better at playing the game. The stats, they’re nice, but I think I’ll be a better player being able to get through some of the harder content with less stats, not more.

Because you thing stats are “the” way to progress, you think that you need these items. I don’t see stats as “the” way to progress, so I don’t. I’m quite happy to play my characters that don’t have any ascended gear at all.

No I’m saying stats are the only way to make your character optimal. No matter how you see it, you cant be optimal without the BiS gear. You can be good and beat other people who have optimal setups since their skill is lacking, but you yourself is not optimal till you have the best possible stats to compliment your skill.

Thats not my opinion, thats just the defenition of optimal. You arent optimal if you run in exo gear, since there is more optimal gear out there.

Cosmetic gear is however optional, since it’s not needed for optimal preformance. It’s fun and all and nice to look at, but it can take whatever time it wants before you get it, since it wont decide your characters victory or defeat.

People say x more % crit damage/toughness/vit/pow etc wont make or break a fight. But it can, it all depends on how much better you are vs whoever you face. Vs some its overkill and not needed, vs others its the skin on your teeth.

I prefer the overkill approach vs easier opponents, it means I come prepared for whatever I get pitted against.

It is however up to a person if they want optimal gear or not. But the optional choise is not in wanting it, its in not wanting it.

I just have to start by saying one thing.

People here are horribly bad at reading comprehension. I’ve seen several answers in here from people that clearly havent understood what the O kitten aying.

Hes not complaining that he or his group got camped, hes complaining about his group camping the enemy starting WP.

Having said that. I see nothing wrong with this tactic. It’s an old tactic, even from a historical perspective, it’s been used since the first war most likely. It’s nothing but a very smart thing to do, cutting of your enemies reserves or “camping” a spot where your enemy has dug in.

But there are always way to overcome it. In WvW there are 3 exits. 20/3 = 6.66, thats 6-7 men per exit if they want to keep it on lockdown, thats not very big numbers. And once one exit is clear, you can can move on and clear the rest. If they focus on just one exit, then you can leave your camp as you see fit.

Well music can define you as a person, it can also connect with your moral grounds and opinions. Actually alot of music is like that.

For instance, if a band completely turned their view in the opposite direction and did it under the same name I think many people would get extremly mad.

A long time ago I would have agreed with you completely. But time passes and things change. We grow older, wiser and less passionate about things I guess. As it stands the most defining things about my life are the systems I design at work (aka my career) and my family.

Even if the music’s theme resonates well with my feeling at the time, in no way does it define me. And I wouldn’t be upset if the artist chose a different direction. Heck, I don’t really care who the artist is and what he believes in. I just like the product.

When it comes to music, texts are important to me, if the artist is trying to get a message across that I dont agree with I wont listen to it. It’s one thing if its a concept and not a pro or anti message.

Movies and games are mostly a different story. They dont have a serious message in the same manner as music, since it’s not built on feelings. Sure, some might try to build on a serious message catering to a certain crowd or view. But when I dont agree or find it enjoyable I avoid it.

And personally the older and wiser I get, the more determined I get about my views I’ve had for years. Things that might have just been a “phase” for other to express their rebellion etc. is in fact a lifestyle or life for some until the day they die, something rooted deeper than just a rebelious fling.

To those who say the Sylvari are elves (And I didn’t read out the entire thread) I’d like to point out something I heard the devs said once… HUMANS fill the niche usually taken by elves in a narrative sense.

Loud, old, magical race, once powerful and very loud about it, and currently fading off for the younger races to take the mantle.

Yes humans fill the elven role, but racially, sylvari are the closest out of a mythological perspective, so are the asuras.

But when the word elf is mentioned, people think of slender, light haired or dark haired humanoids with pointy ears, unimaginable beauty and high intelligence. Mythological elves however is a different story.

Sylvari fit the mythological elf background well, with the wild hunt, nature spirit, forest homes and so on. Also their curious interested in things is something that fit well with elves too. There are many myths about the curious behavior of elves, many of them not appropriate to tell on forums.
