The most funny party of this topic is that WvW was created to win capturing towers, camps, etc.

A solo roamer annoying has nothing to do with this . . . . actually a solo roamer should be consider the underdog in this reward system.

All the QQ in this forums with stealth, warriors mobility, Elementalist using mist form to enter a tower after dying, OP ranger underwater . . . . etc. is simple because people is not focusing the real goal of WvW . . . they are just proud people that get rolled every time they want to roam by them self.

WvW is not a dueling field . . . when you get that you will start complaining for kitten things like that.

no matter how bad the opponents are no other class placed in such situation can win – place a guardian, ranger necro or whatever other than thief & it will melt in 1v5

conclusion thief op … but ofc i expect from thief players daggers to be thrown at me because when thief gets nerfed they are gonna have to use normal player skills thus resulting in showing how bad they really are.

So basically, all the videos above mean nothing to you . . . there are a lot of outnumbered fights where all the profession win even a lot faster than thieves.

Did you see any of them? do you really care about balance? do you play SPVP and notice that thief is the less efficient class?

Did you see forums this days?

People will always complain for what they consider OP . . . but this is totally subjective.

I do play a ranger . . . i actually made one specially to play solo SPVP spirit build back days when it was incredible OP.

Any time we can switch professions and have a duel . . . you play with thief any build you want . . . and i will play ranger . . . lets see who wins . . . i mean is very easy to play thief you should not have any problem with this.

All the profession are good . . . one better that others to one specific job . . . read the post i linked . . . ranger is consider for this community to be harder to play against in 1v1.

I can bet my account to this . . . every single profession on maximum potential played only by experts . . . thief will be one of the bottoms.

I know this would happen . . . i provide great videos with good examples of regular players with other professions outnumbered killing better than a thief and no one says nothing.

If you all want to be objective you must provide numbers or examples to the table.

Most of the problems IMO is that most people do not get the role of each profession, and they want all to do the same.

Look at the pools in the forum . . . thieves are always on bottom . . . with rangers and eles xD.

GW2 is an excellent game.

The most important thing to me besides the gameplay is that the entire team always tries to be transparent even if they in troubles because of that.

They made hard choices like breaking the trinity, no monthly fees, barely vertical progression . . . that could be devastating to the current MMO game life expectation . . . and they succeed IMO.

Working on Anet will be like working in google . . . just talent everywhere giving by free many things that they just don’t really need to give in order to pursuit more incomes.

Okay here we go, complete guide to modern meta thief.

1. Go D/P backstab build (10/30/0/0/30)

2. Learn your rotations

• Backstab rotation: Bass venom-> Black powder-> heartseeker+steal (steel mid-heartseeker)-> auto attack in the back.
• Vs. Casters: spam auto attack + 4 in downtime between backstabs (precast backstab animation into steal if you get stealth without your black powder combo)
• Vs. Melee: spam auto attack + 3. depending on wep sets, you’ll wanna use blind as a spam or as a gap closer. Eg; you see warrior swap to hammer, hit 3 every time the blind wars off between attacks; very easy to do since init regen buff. Against a staff mesmer just use it to close gaps (they usually don’t have anything that you’d really wana blind when they are in staff).

3. Learn your 1v1 matchups

• Necro: they give you a long kitten fear when you steal, you can blind their fears, and their heal is long cast time (easy interrupt with 4). Some ppl complain about this matchup but imo thief does well against necro.
• Ele: They have low health pool, open with backstab rotation and just blind up when they go earth attunement, spam 4 when they go water attunement. Backstab as often as possible, their steal skill is a massive slow and makes landing backstabs super easymode.
• Guardian: their steal is a huuuuge daze, get them to around 1/2 hp by dropping a blind field and just auto attacking, then steal – daze – auto attack until daze wares off – then auto attack and daze spam with 4 until they are dead dead. You might not need black powder against some guards, but if they are rocking a hammer it’s usually a good idea.
• Mesmer: A good mesmer will usually outplay any thief, they have immunity to damage on command with sword 2 and f4 and blink on 8s cd + they burst for like 1/2 our hp. If you’re in hotjoins, you can usually get away with just spamming 3 and auto attack though.
• Warrior: Easy matchup for thief. all you have to do is spam 3 when they go hammer or mace or LB and you win, straight up. Drop black powder if they go gs, you can also precast black powder into steal and then use that axe aoe to do dps and spam aoe blinds. Watch their hp bar for berserker stance buff (it looks like this) -it will make them immune to blinds for short period (like 8s) -just kite or drop shadow refuge during this time period, it’s easy to play around if you’re patient.
• Ranger: This is a long fight, basically just use steal off CD, drop the tree when you get around 50% hp and heartseeker through it. You can choose to spam 3 or just drop blind fields and auto attack, but it’s SUPER important that you save enough initiative to interrupt their heals with 4. You have a lot of control over the fight -you can basically reset it every 20s with steal, but so can they if you let them heal.
• Engineer: Like mesmer, a good engineer will usually be pretty tough for a thief to deal with. You’re gonna wanna ditch this fight in ranked games.
• Thief: so good news is that most thieves you’re gonna meet in spvp are pretty bad. Just keep pistol 3 up for the majority of the fight and you’re gonna win. If they go stealth, drop a black powder and stand in it to blind their backstabs. Whoever lands most backstabs usually wins (takes like 2).
  Heartseeker: Just use for combos, it sucks for damage.

4. Learn your stomps

(pretty basic stuff here)

• Drop black powder before you stomp a: Guardian, Engineer, Warrior, Necro, Ranger (they all have interrupts in their downed state that can be blinded with pistol 5).
• Prepare to shadowstep mid-way through when you stomp a Thief.
• Do not stomp Mesmer until they use their invis. Also, do not stomp Ele until they burn mist form. Just auto attack them until they burn these abilities.
• In 1v2+ scenarios, drop black powder and stealth off it with heartseeker before stomping. You can use 4 to interrupt if they try to heal the downed body.

5. Be mobile; SB5 for vert mobility.

6. NEVER play evade spamming cheese builds. If you touch these s/d or d/d builds you will be dead to me. Good luck!

I’m around 1000 games on thief in spvp, I bounce around the top 400-1000 of NA ladders and I’ve played with or interviewed pretty much every competitive d/p thief in the NA scene. I’m not throwing this in to brag, it’s just so you know I’m not some random troll.

OP you should try this gameplay . . . very accurate guide =P.

IMO the biggest problem this game has is the lack of real direct competition.

1.- No duels.
2.- No clan wars.
3.- Not hard reach top lvl. (maybe add 10 lvl with new good skills but a lot harder to get)
4.- Not real raid bosses with very long spawns (once at week but very hard with guarantee drop)

I use to love Lineage 2 because there was a lot competition everywhere.

-Siege were between guilds and allies for castles that gives stuff to the clan.
-Dueling was everywhere, people motivates to improve their gaming not only spamming 1 skill.
- Crafting was a big deal, unique items like boss jewels game unique bonuses that you could not find anywhere else.

I’ not saying lineage 2 is a better game, i’m just saying that if they were merged the result will be the perfect MMO.

. . . just an my opinion.

You cannot buy uber weapon to dominate without having skill. Even you bought exotics you suck because you don’t have skill (you need to spend time to master in any case). If you earned it you didn’t waste real money for it and it wasn’t a big grind, so you are not in disadvantage. ANET got some cash. Win/win/win IMO.

Legendaries should not be tradable though. So if you got it – it’s a status item.

You miss the point. The guy is a casual player without much time to play and obtain the best gear in the game, the freaking ascended stufff. Before, you could get exotics easily or with 0 effort buying them in TP for exchanged gems for gold. I didn’t saw anyone complaining that u could buy the best stat gear of the game so it was ok.

And then ascended comes and you need to invest huge amounts of time, and you can’t buy gems convert to gold and buy this stuff (and before u could buy the best gear with money). Before it was ok to be able to obtain the best stat gear with real money, but now it’s not ok because ?

I’m just trying to understand what will be so bad about buying the best stat gear in the game when some months ago u could do that.

Well this is a good point . . . people didn’t make a big deal with exotics in TP.

The only feel that hurst is not the pink color, or the skins, or the infusions, is actually the extra damage that could help in a duel.

I love dueling and WvW fights.

Do you think the stat increase do not worth it?

You may wanna put a post in the last CDI topic. Chris is exchanging idea with the community on a daily basis and presently the discussion is directly on that. Anet know about this issue and they are thinking about putting in place several others ways to get ascended gear. They don’t really want to make it easier to get, only give more ways to get it. Of course for now its only talk and there is no plan yet. But if you have some suggestion of how we should be able to get this stuff that would fix your way of playing feel free to explain it in the CDI topic.

If you want to shortcut the process, buy Gems and convert to Gold. If you don’t mind waiting, you can still get your gear. Basically, if you put in the effort, you get the reward. Sounds like you don’t want to put in much effort due to real life, and that’s fine. Play how you want to play. All Casuals have access to the exact same thing Hardcore players have.

Try to be in my place . . . i have only 1-1.5 hr daily to play. . . i want to use that time to be in the action . . . WvW., Dueling on the mill, fractals (the only kind of dungeon i like).

Daily i can do it while playing WvW, fractals, or spvp.

But crafting . . . it is just too much for people like me.

I’m not saying that i can directly purchase Ascended for gem store, was only a example of things like skins that we can access due to our situation.

I’m saying that the jewels method could by an option to us, people with jobs, wives, party lovers that want to play this game without being in the bottom.

Is cool for me that people that have more time to play and make a good effort are the ones to achieve this items, but IMO having a long term option like laurels+gold, Laures+ BH will not harm anyone.

I’m a working person (10hr daily) that still love to play this game when i have a free time.

When i decide to play this game and expend some of my time on it was because we were told that was not going to be any grind focus like most MMO out there.

I have seen people that craft an entire ascended armor in less than a week, they deserve it since they put a lot of effort.

I feel sad sometimes because i know i will never have the time to make a entire ascended set with weapons because of the time it requires.

Purchasing gems IMO is really good for people like us, that in 1 day we can get enough money to get items that took 1 month to us.

Dailies are great also, they allow people like us to expend 30-45 minutes at day to get laurels and then buy jewels with it eventually (slow but effective).

Dear Anet would you consider to make options (like jewels) for people like myself to at least have a hope that one day we will get ascended armor and weapons?

Ele is not in top tier of course. . . but a match losing 150-500 is not a balance issue only.

Probably you got a bad team with a hard profession to play, or they were testing bad builds.

Sadly the system will give you this bad teams sometimes, and people complain here because the frustation.
