It’s a bad daily with good intent behind it.

The intent is to force players to experiment with other classes, which is a good thing. However, in Unranked, it’s ridiculous to see both teams comprised of mesmers and warriors for 90% of the team’s class make up. This goes on for a few hours, the prime time hours, of hotjoin. Kinda lame.

You know Anet just made a major change to SPVP interface and match mechanics . . . and all of that still gets shadowed by the fact that if you get a team with 2 engis . . . 2eles . . . or worst the combination of them you are dead by sure.

Seriously i would love to see a dev be transparent with this issue . . . . is like they don’t care a kitten.

Actually there’s not a problem of balance, there’s a problem of AoE. And to fix that ANet need to make a big rework over all classes… a rework that you will never see.

at least it’s not Wildstar…you can’t even tell whats going on with all that aoe insanity in that game.

And i would say not even AOE is the problem . .

AOE Burn fields and burn application is the issue IMO.

Both ele and engis have a lot of burn and CC . . . and heals . . . and burst . . . and mobility . . . well

Burn is a pin in the kitten . . . more if it is on AOE.

Is well known how frustrated the community is, and Anet do kitten.

Honestly the only thing that keeps me playing this game is the fight mechanic and it is not enough to maintain a player interested with this MAAAAAAAAAASIVE OP roll face builds.

befor you respond to my thread you should really consider what goes through your mind? Do you think about the people that are going to read your response, or whether or not you are adding value to the lifes of others.

Personally I try to be a value giver rather than a value taker, I try to brighten the day of others as any normal human being would do.

The problem here is, you are focusing on the wrong things in life – infact I think you should take a good hard look at yourself and ask… Am I really the kind of person I want to be?

LS stealing 2 boons would destroy boon spam builds. Thief having boons for days vs naked guardian/ele. But I think LS stealing one, removing 2nd boon would be fine.

No my friend, is not that easy to spam LS.

The cost is high and Flanking Strike is hard to apply continuously.

I would love to hear another thief opinion on this.

I wouldn’t really give boon spam to thieves.

Reason:

  • ability to easily reset fight
  • ability to escape from any fight
  • great potential in condition removal
  • great mobility
  • great damage spike output

As many may disagree, I can say this:
Thief is actually one of few classes that isn’t boon dependent.
You don’t need swiftness in fights, because there are plenty of gap closers.
Might boosts damage spikes too much. Thieves in many cases can down any class while remaining above 90% – assassin type of class.
Fury is fine, since thief should crit a lot.

Skills:
Death blossom – d/d is a power spec, yet DB has it’s good use in condi build in Arena PvP. Caithe has a nice DB skill – why not rework it to be a bit similar?
Dagger Storm – it does hit, but you gotta move to enemy, kinda bad. The good point of that skill is that it reflects incoming projectiles and range skills.
Black Powder – well, it’s nerfed and seem to go to nerf category just like War’s Adrenaline. They shouldn’t drop skill’s power from 10 to 2.

I wouldn’t say thief can boon spam or steal them now with the nerf they did to LS.

About Death Blossom, i know there are interesting builds that could use it . . . but lets be honest you have never seen it as an option in a serious match.

It is like using traps. . .

There are so skills than definitely need a revision and other a fix . . . please consider this opinion.

1.- Shadowstep. skill with the auto return bug.

When the user tries to shadow step (no matter the skill) the character suddenly returns by itself to the original position.

the weird thing about this bug is that in most cases the shadow step animation is successful, but then suddenly it just returns back.

Also not only for thief . . . there is a lot of terrain problem using this skills, is very frustrating that you throw away a good utility because of this.

2- Black Powder. The blind application interval is too big. Right now this skill is useful only to gain stealth with heartseeker. This skill must be useful also for defensive purposes for example, S/P, P/P (mainly this one).

Decrease the interval a little bit, DO NOT MAKE IT ONLY TO SPAM STEALTH!

3.- Dagger Storm. I don’t even know when this skills will hit or not . . . the rate of a successful hit is sooooooooooooo weird. Make it more reliable.

4.- Death Blossom. Please consider redesigning this skills or to cost less at least, D/D set has been always incomplete because of this skills.

5.- Larcenous Strike. After the nerf we had for this skill is a lot harder to use, it should steal 2 boons at least.

Too many boon spam builds ATM that could be toned down with this.

6.- Traps. More than 2 years of this game and such a waste of skills that no one use. Make them viable plz.

Please let me know your thoughts thieves . . . .

Is even funny how people complain about ranger when a guardian can kill 3 people in the cap point like nothing then go invu, block block block, heal heal, block and spam the easiest rotation of the game again to hit like a truck.

IMO 3 profession need to be down tone:

Engi(torret, celestial)
Ele (cele)
Guard.

If You actually compare a guardian to all the other classes it is actually about the middle of the pack in terms of how difficult it is to play in PvP.

There are several other classes/specs which are much easier to play like longbow ranger, D/D thief, Anything warrior etc…

As for your claim of a guardian killing 3 players like it was nothing. It was likely a good player on the guardian VS 3 idiots who had no idea how a guardians mechanics work.

Some of the things all guardians have in common

1: All have a low base health pool. This means they must trait defensively & or gear defensively (not so with several other classes)

2: They all have horrible target uptime due to not having much in the way of CC. What little they do have is on long CD’s. So kite them.

3: Much of their ability to remove conditions is linked to utility skills (skills which often have a good 20-40second CD’s). Which also likely is a big part of their DPS potential & or survivability. Get them to burn their CD’s then you can dominate them.

Once you realize these things and study guardian attacks a bit you can beat them quite easily.

Man i stop reading you when you said that D/D thief is easier to play than Guard.

D/D thief is the hardest set to play correctly . . .

Compensating a 4v5 match is one of the main issues with SPVP.

Another user came up with the idea to make respawn time shorter for the team with 4 people.

Personally i see this as a very good option to solve the issue, can you tell us what option are you considering to solve this?

Someone help me: What’s the point of this thread? That the OP hates thief if s/he’s not a thief him/herself?

The point of the thread is to recognize the source of ‘thief hate’ and educate people (both thieves and non-thieves alike) that nerfs on stealth is not the answer. All the hate and cries for nerf, are completely understandable. But frustration doesn’t justify nerfing a glassy class.

A thief needs stealth in WvW. (That’s not the same as saying they need SA, although it’s probably the smarter choice.) I’m likely singing to the choir, but hey, I wanted to share my two cents.

So next time there are pitchforks and a cry for “Nerf thieves and their kitten stealth!” we shouldn’t feed their anger and frustration with l2p, no matter how sincere it may be. Instead, we should sit down, nod quietly, allow them to vent, and politely reply. “Now see here, we’re not the culprit, we’re the victim. You, fine sir/madam do too much damage and force us into stealth. We don’t need to nerf stealth, we need to nerf your damage.”

This is totally not a veiled post in hopes of nerfing the dire condition meta. No pun intended.

The op is talking about the kittened design of stealth in this game not a single stack of bleed/poison/torment. It is pretty stupid the thief can activate and actually land the 6th bonus of these runes while in stealth and not be revealed. It is the same complaint that housed the changed for the shortbow poison cloud. A Thief in no way should be able to stack a condition on a target in stealth and stay in stealth.

You have to be more specific, Engi itself isn’t broken. It just has 2 specs that are broken. Those are:

1. Turret Engi
2. Celestial nade engi

Those are 2 of the 3 most broken specs in the game. Of course the most broken spec in the game is D/D celestial bunker ele.

I agree that turret engis can be tough, but they are not unbeatable. Tips for dealing with Turret Engis:

-ALWAYS try to engage a turret engi off point. If you see one coming. Run to them. Force them to drop their turrets far from point and then flee back to the capture point.

-If you are running a condition build focus on the engi first! If he gets his turrets up and survives your burst. Just run. You will die.

-If running a power or tank build focus on the turrets first! A turret engi without turrets is extremely vulnerable. Priority for destroying turrets: Rocket Turret> Flamethrower Turret> Rifle Turret> Net Turret> Thumper Turret> Healing Turret.

-If a turret engi does manage to get to the capture point and drops all of his turrets plus supply crate then you should just run. Odds are you won’t win that 1v1. Go help elsewhere on the map and come back to capture point once engi has left the point or his supply crate is on cooldown.


Ultimate Pro Tip****** Do not feed a turret engi. I have played countless games where one player runs to our home point all game trying to kill a turret engi. The player never decaps. Never wins the 1v1. And always causes the team to lose. DO NOT BE THIS PLAYER!

So my friend in resume your advice is . . .

Run always run
Try to kill turrets . . . and as we explain before . . .. that is not a smart option.

So basically if there is a team of 4 engis . . . there is nothing to do?

i have read very bad arguments defending this build:

1. You have to zerg the engi to kill him . . . make rotations . . .

So you tell me that i have to use 3 of my teammates just to kill 1 engi and leave other caps?

2.- Destroy the turrets, then the engi is very week . . .

How would i destroy very well placed turrets that are not affected by critical damage or condis and then come back with 100hp to try to kill a 100% fresh engi?

3.- Play the class first then come here and make your opinion . . .

I did already, and this is why i came to create this topic . . . is the ultimate AI joke build . . . and yes i play it often because of that.

4.- You complain because is a hard counter for your profession . . .

Is a hard counter to almost every single class in this game . . . .tell me how many classes or builds are good against them . . . 3? 2?

5.- The problem is that we only have this mode . . . we need more SPVP game modes and they will not be a problem

The turrets dont die fast because they cant be crit and are immune to condi. I think turret engi is fine. It trades his mobility for ability to be strong in 1v1. Not like builds that have super mobility and are still good at killing players and have OP dmg like shatter mesmer.

I would say that engi has a very very good mobility . . . . and if you dare to chase them they will bomb you to the grown.

Am i wrong?

Also shatter mesmer is very strong but due to the nature of their build they suck capping . . . just like stealth based thieves.

Introduce a viable non-conquest mode and you will see how effective AI is instead of complaining when this is the only mode where they want turrets to be active.

is not the only option, reduce the a lot the HP of the turrets and alot also redude the CD . . . fixed.

Enemy can focus to destroy fast the turrets before attacking the engi . . .

Now if you focus on turrets at the time you finally destroy them u r alsmot dead and engi 100% hp.

Because of conquest most focus on melee everything making it harder to deal with turrets and the specs that deal with it are not lacking it’s the same thing with celestial ele. That circle forces to take AoE fields,not kite….and then players complain because their specs are countered..what did you expect??? Then they want to balance around that circle!!! Just bull kitten.

Go in wvw and tell me if the pvp QQ is solid there.

I think you are offtopic. This is a PvP thread and balance about PvP. WvW is a different forum.

I’m surprised you are defending the two most OP professions in PvP. Ele and Engi are both too strong right now.

Trying to balance everything around your precious circle with no regards to the other modes is source of great unbalance that’s why I don’t trust a thief’s point of view if he hides in conquest scared of diversity in wvw I play both anyway. The obvious answer is already know.

If the counters exists make them more appealing instead of people running conquest meta specs. Come to wvw and pve tell me those two are OP.

My friend . . . everything should be balanced around the precious circle . . . at least in this SPVP forum.

This is the only SPVP mode we have . . . for more than 2 years . . . at least they should fix this before moving one.

And for the others that say . . . just AOE turrets down . . . if you can do that is because u r fighting againt a very bad engi . .. good engis will always put the turrets very separated and in good spots.

There are several issues right now with engi, several post has been created . . .
