yea but i think you know what I mean. my team can’t/doesn’t care about holding points. every point we get is decapped in 20 seconds. i try to hold a point and get 1v3’d and nobody comes. every enemy team has had at least 1-2 tanky guard/wars and i haven’t had a single one. the point is when 4v5 and skyhammer isn’t ruining the match, class composition and newbs still are.

5 games in soloq today and I haven’t had a 4v5 or skyhammer yay!!! but I also haven’t had a SINGLE warrior or guardian or spirit ranger or anything bunker’y on any of my teams. Every game is 3-4 thief/mes/ele and the rest are terrible necros that apparently don’t have condi damage, direct damage, or survivability. not sure if they forgot to use an amulet and traits???

either way, soloq is as bad now as hotjoin used to be, so I’m gonna go ruin some teamq matches.

when someone is applying condis with their auto attacks taking 1-2 extra long cooldown condition removal skills does nothing.

after 5 seconds of removing conditions you have them all back again.

i wish more people would play diamond skin ele to discourage the condi meta

Best teams in either NA or EU are not using condis. So it’s pretty hard to justify a condi meta when there is little evidence of it.

idk… the best teams are maybe not using condis but they are certainly packing a ton of condi removal, which is definitely evidence that condis are a legitimate threat if not built to clear.

I was up to rank 29 at one point playing warrior but then I wanted to git gud at thief, ele, and guardian, and so I lost a lot of rating learning those new classes. Now with the insurgence of scrubs into soloq it’s extremely difficult to rise back up because most of my progress is getting muted by 4v5’s. Don’t worry about the leaderboards. They don’t mean anything, there are way too many factors in soloq for people to take them seriously. Just play the game and forget about it. If you’re not having fun anymore, I recommend just taking a break from it.

only thing i worry about is getting my MMR back up so I can hopefully escape the scrubfest…. until I want to learn a new class again lol

Yesterday I did run into something very strange. I was playing against 2 warriors, a thief, a guardian, and an elementalist, and a few times in the match I got “condi-bombed” as in I went from 0 conditions to 5-6 instantly – I don’t mean within a second or 2, I mean all at the exact time similar to signet of spite or something.

I’m pretty sure it was the thief applying them? He was running a MH Pistol condi build I believe but how can he apply several conditions at once? Maybe sigil of earth and doom and venoms or something?

I’ve never had anyone but a necro or engi do that to me. It didn’t kill me or hurt me that badly… it was just odd. It happened at least 2-3 times so it wasn’t just a fluke.

The NA class compositions also had heavy condi removal. Ele’s with cleansing water and cleansing wave, guardians with soldier runes and pure of voice, warriors with berserker stance and cleansing ire.

Condis are very strong and that’s why most current ‘meta’ builds automatically include lots of condition removal.

to actually go with the “story time” spirit of the post and disregarding OP’s silly example, I would have to say when I was new to guardian in a match on legacy and we were losing so we lord rushed, and I dropped a sanctuary on the lord and we all got inside it and DPS’ed the lord and we killed him when the enemy had 499 and all 3 points, and we won like 520-499

or when i was playing condi warrior on forest and it was like 480-480 or within 5 points and i saw their boss move and ran there and 2 were killing it and I shot ONE arcing arrow (with only like 1k power so they don’t do lotsa damage) and stole it in one hit FTW.

or when I was recording a video of my build/playstyle for a friend and in my first take I got a 4v5 on soloq (it started 5v5 until about 1 minute later ally dropped) and one of the enemy players was The Guardian who is in like top 25 always in soloq and we almost won 4v5. It was 499-499 but they had 2 points and stillness and we had 1 point so it ended 499-503 but was still epic.

im rarely getting a 5v5 match on skyhammer in soloq. roughly 15 out of the last 20 matches on that map were 4v5 or even 3v5.

you aren’t punishing leavers and you aren’t fixing the map so what is the thinking behind leaving things the way they are? lack of data? ignorance? anet’s owner’s child designed the map? what is it? i’m really curious what the good reason is that nobody will comment on this and nothing ever even hints towards changing.

Bunker build Warrior

i forgot to say if you want a true bunker go guardian.

and warrior’s role is better suited for not a true bunker but a survivable damage dealer, your link for hambow is close to that but get rid of those 10 points in the tactics tree and put them in the first tree for extra vitality and damage. you’ll get your vitality back, you don’t need leg specialist, and you’ll gain 100 power and condition duration.

on such a tanky build without a lot of healing, I dont personally like endure pain. i’d rather use dolyak signet it gives you more armor and an emergency stun break or stability. stun break to avoid spike damage + reduced incoming damage means you won’t need things like endure pain as often (which can lose you a point anyway), and that stability can give you that extra guaranteed stomp which turns team fights around.

Bunker build Warrior

if you want a true bunker put 6 in the 4th tree and either go shout build with shouts heal and soldier runes, or equip a banner with banner regeneration and maybe monk runes or dolyak. monk are nice for increased duration of stability and regen and vigor, dolyak are straight up extra tanky’ness with a tiny regen boost.

6 points in 3rd tree of course. 10 points in either 1st or last tree. so total either 2/0/6/6/0 or 0/0/6/6/2

most bunker of all would be like…. mace/shield and sword/warhorn with 2nd major trait in 4th tree the quick breathing trait to convert condis.

if you do a banner build you can equip 2 stances and 1 banner

if you do a shout build you can either go 3 shouts or 2 shouts and something else.

cleric amulet will really increase the sustain.

sigils of renewal and energy too since you wont have 15 in last tree your weapon swaps are 10 sec and will proc every time so both weapon sets.

Yeah bro we should totally take the time during a match while fighting to double the length of what we’re typing for the sole reason of the level of courtesy you’d probably expect to find in victorian era dinner parties. You’ve got it. Perfect sense, because good manners is of utmost importance during a match, if everyone used good manners rather than neutral tones everyone on the enemy team would drop dead immediately.

Why don’t you just assume that someone would ask nicely had they the time?

I had this guy in yolo q yesterday focusing a bunker warr and letting a condi nec freecast. I tried targetting him, I tried saying “focus nec” in chat, I tried banishing the war away and then going back to the nec, he still kept beating on this 75% HP bunker war and then called me pretentious after we both died. Are you telling me if I stopped to type

because CLEARLY the dishonorable system DOES NOT WORK AT ALL and if you’ve ever played soloq for more than 2 hours you know that to be true.

4v5’s are rampant everywhere probably 20-25% or more of games are 4v5. How could this be possible if dishonorable is working as intended?

It’s been like this for months, put their names in gray on the team panel and maybe we can START to do something about it?

It’s difficult for me when I get online to be able to find a full team of similar-skill players that want to teamq. So apparently I need a bigger contacts list.

I play primarily warrior, thief, ele, and guardian. I have experience with mesmer and ranger as well and I am willing to polish my skills on those if needed.

NA servers please add me, preferably R55+ (or decent leaderboard ranking)

I prefer teamspeak use and have a server available if needed.

I would also consider joining a pvp-oriented guild as long as repping is not a requirement since I am an officer in my PvX guild (I would just rep to find a team, etc).

This is just a L2P issue – conquest may not be ideal game mode but it is certainly much more enjoyable when you “get good” at picking your battles.

even simplistic websites can keep people from botting them, so i don’t see how GW2 makes it harder.

maybe after you’ve played X number of games in a day, in order to “Play Now” it asks you some sort of random question or captcha-like entry to prove you are not a bot etc.

and that’s just off the top of my head – I’m sure there is either a better way to prevent botting than limiting progression, or more likely there are more reasons they want progression limited such as to force people to soloq to reduce queue times which they view as one of the most important issues.

Nothing is OP if you aren’t using it with a high level of skill.

If a class build + high skill = not enough counter-play available, then it would be OP.

If the skill is lacking then who can know if it’s OP or not?

Warrior is one of the easiest classes to master, relatively speaking, as in compared to other classes. It’s still very hard to master it, just not as hard as other classes.

The only special consideration should be AFTER the teams have been decided, the teams most favored to win should be seeded such that they don’t play each other early on. it would be dumb to have the 2 best teams fighting it out in round 1 and so the 2nd best team there is didn’t even get to round 2.

mesmer is best at this map. good mesmer > any class at hammer. mesmer removes your stability and pushes and pulls you and when those on CD mesmer blurred frenzy, distortion, invis, oh that was fast I’m ready to remove your stability and pull you again, you ready?

Engineer’s are easier to dodge and can’t steal your stability every couple seconds, and the knockbacks aren’t instantaneous allowing you to stunbreak during them.

Good guardians are also very difficult with greatsword and hammer but hammer has a long CD it’s GS that you have to watch out for.

I am not enjoying soloq anymore because of terrible matchmaking, rampant 4v5s, and, of course, Skyhammer.

I really enjoy teamq with a solid team but it’s difficult to get a full team of similarly skilled players with a decent composition all on at the same time that can play more than a couple of games.

Am I the only one with this issue? I used to PvP a lot but recently it only takes me about 1-2 games to get bored/annoyed with it.

Coaching what exactly ? I don’t see how conquest can be complicated. Most new players are using a sub par build, this is where the problem comes from.

rotations can be a bit complicated. once you have a good understanding it seems quite simple, but for a new player it’s not obvious and there is no way to learn except with practice and/or being taught by those with practice.

I may be way off base but thats why I’m asking… I feel like the China launch is eventually going to be very good for GW2 PvP because from my own experience it seems that China (and eastern countries in general) have more of a competitive …. “spirit” in online gaming than the West does. If that’s true then after the China launch it could mean a lot more PvP attention from Anet.

Maybe it’s just wishful thinking? I’m sure some of you have more insight than I do so please share >.<

the MMR just changes way too much per match. new player gets a couple lucky wins and he’s top 100. veteran players get a few 4v5’s and lose hundreds of ranks.

I just started doing some pvp a couple weeks ago, due to the inactivity in WvW on our server. Didn’t think I would ever try it, but it’s been kind of addictive fun. I have just been doing the pug type 5v5 matches, and had one the other day where we only had 4 vs 5……got our butts kicked, but noone on the team gave up.

My biggest concern in the last few days, is that my video card has been locking up at times during the matches…..think I fixed it(new driver was buggy), but felt terrible locking up in the middle of a good match, with our side winning…….they probably didn’t miss me much, as I stubbornly play a ranger……but still felt bad crashing out.

(And fwiw, I am not THAT stubborn, as I also play a mesmer in pvp….lol)

But definitely agree with some others here…..don’t give up if your side is down by 1 player……I would think the win would feel great with a smaller force.

rangers dont suck as much in PvP as they do in WvW. pvp isn’t about zerging so if you’re good in 1v1, 1v2, 2v2 type scenarios you can be really effective.

It’s not a new idea (I remember in Warcraft 3 over 10 years ago people would give lessons for money, and there was no in-game currency so it was actual cash) but it’s still a good idea.

A team of 5 players could easily come up with 5-10 gold for a 30-60 minute training a few times per week.

It would make the scene more competitive especially for the top teams who don’t have a lot of competition to fight against at their level. By “selling” their knowledge they can help other teams get up on their level, which will result in more competition for them, which will indirectly end up making them better as well.

I can’t imagine a downside to this really as long as there are experienced coaches willing and aspiring teams interested.

Give zerker stance a condi duation reduction. Immunity is toxic to a game.

zerker stance is powerful but the uptime is only 13% and 17% if traited. If it was changed to be reduced condi duration instead of immunity, it would need shorter CD or increased duration to make sure it’s useful.

or it would have “stacks” as in the skill has no duration, it simply auto-clears the next 5 incoming conditions or something.

ascended items in my experience cost like ballpark 80-100 gold to craft and that does not include the cost of leveling up to 500 crafting.

they should be rare drops. even in WvW in 600 rank up chests I’ve only got 1 ascended armor piece drop and maybe 2 trinkets. That is lucky, and it’s a toss up whether the stats are going to be any good or not.

It’s really awesome that ascended are now account bound though.

what i do think is silly is the “final” rewards are not the best rewards in the track.

cleric support is very team-reliant to win and not good for soloq unless you want to play like home point bunker or something.

but if you go celestial with strength runes and same trait lines 0/0/2/6/6 you can be a hybrid with some good damage and survivability. i’m guessing that’s what Chubbz was running? and in soloq you should be a little more selfish and probably choose the cantrip traits for 2 and 4 in water instead of cleansing wave. i really also prefer to use arcane mastery trait 2 in arcana with arcane brilliance heal. the trait makes it only 20 sec CD and its a blast finisher for your water fields, and since water 3 is 20 sec CD as well, you can time it so that every heal is also blast, and if you use it with enemies near you it becomes almost a full-heal every 20 seconds not to mention always having regeneration. with your CC’s and cantrips as oh-kitten buttons you are very survivable, and with a little bit of might stacking from strength runes you can put out some really nice DPS as well.

4v5 can be won. I had a few guildies ask about my condi warrior build so I made a video for them of 1 match, and after about 1 minute it was a 4v5. The game was 499 to 499 but they had 2 points and stillness and we had 1 so we lost 503-500.

So regardless if the OP is saying 4v5 is possible he is correct. You also never know if your ally will be right back or not, or if an enemy is going to DC, so not playing is just a terrible idea.

My thoughts would be something like this:

5 points for a kill, double if on a point
5 points for a rez, double if on a point
if your kill rallies an ally you get credit for the rez
10 points for decapping
10 points for full capping
0.5 points for every second spent alive in combat on a friendly or neutral point
10 points for killing your forest boss
15 points for killing enemy’s boss
10 points for capping stillness
15 for capping tranquility
25 points for killing foefire lord
10 points for destroying treb
0 points for repairing treb
1 point per trebuchet hit (still get credit for kill if they die)

I have played warrior more than anything else and I think cleansing ire should be a grandmaster trait, merciless hammer should be reduced to 10% damage increase or simply a higher crit chance instead of auto-damage increase, and fast hands should be a master major trait instead of minor. also, combustive shot is a little too large simply because of how small the capture nodes are in conquest.

but forget all that, if merciless hammer was moved into the tactics tree instead it would completely “fix” the hambow build because right now the 2 most important traits of the build are both in the same tree which allows for burst mastery to add to it, whereas if it was in tactics you could still get the hammer trait, cleansing ire, and burst mastery, but you’d lose out on the 10 in strength, armored attack, and defy pain, and have to pick up something else like longbow range increase.

The Counter Comp to Apex

KPZ was close to a counter because they had a thief. But I think a better counter to Apex’s comp would be 2 thieves with 3 total CC bunkers. Something like:

1 banner bunker regen hammer mace shield warrior with battle standard
1 cleric support guardian with staff and hammer
1 full support staff ele
2 trickery thieves

2 Trickery thieves synergizes very well with all those CC’s because one can steal stability while the other can still be ready to steal it again / interrupt a heal if the person used a stun break. And the CC’s are everywhere with warrior hammer mace and shield guardian hammer 3/4/5 and staff 5, and ele earth 4/5 air 3/5 and water 4.

The synergy is even stronger when you consider that everyone on the entire team has low CD blast finishers for might, healing, and retaliation.

And with battle standard, ele glyph, 2 shadow refuge, and so much insane CCs, it’s going to be extremely hard to get stomps or rezzes against this comp.

It would still take a talented group of players to make it work well but honestly not THAT much. It would really just be a matter of coordinating CC+trickery bursts, fields+blasts, and abusing mobility of 2 thieves to stay 1 step ahead in rotations.

Imo Master Splinter is wasting his heals playing solos, that he could be boosting his team more with. I’d be using more gust, earth 5 immob’s in 1v1s keeping people off points. Unstead ground, and static keeping them getting back in. Probably would be 2e (rock steady), 2w, 3arc to keep the health up a lot easier.

I would like to talk about this tournament in the ele forum. There is so much snobbery against staff eles I am surprised to see a couple of them on top pvp teams. You can barely get anyone to talk about a staff build they are so disrespected.

yea or in a better universe the MMR wouldnt change so much post-match which would take more than 20 games to get into top 50 and people wouldnt go up or down more than 20-30 ranks in a match.
