I am rank 67 (I think) and pretty much only play PvP nowadays since October or so.
I have all 8 classes but my best are warrior, thief, guardian, and ele. When I cared about soloq rating I got up to rank 29 with 500 games played, but since then I realized it’s a joke and experiment with other classes in soloq so idk what I’m ranked now nor do I care. Teamq however is where I want to be when I get serious!
Whisper me or mail me in game if you are putting together or have a team that has an extra spot! I also have a lot of guildies that are good at tpvp but we rarely have enough people online at the same time to get a solid team together.
Only interested in teams that use TS or other voice coms.

Ok I have to comment on this. This guy “Vee Wee” posts all the time, and constantly says “Hi guys! Vee Wee here. #1 NA Engi and world first rank 80!”
It annoys the crap out of me.
A) You aren’t NA #1 engi, that spot is almost always held by Five Gauge as he is at the top of the leaderboards constantly.
B) You weren’t the world’s first rank 80. You claimed to be rank 80 back when the devs said that there were no rank 80s. And the first rank 80s happened as a group with this reclassification of ranks patch.
So please for the love of Dwyana stop putting that at the top of everything you post….
Lol who cares? If you’re actively and positively trying to make PvP better and more enjoyable for everyone, then you can call yourself whatever the hell you want >.<
what stance are you talking about that makes you do more damage? You mean Frenzy where you attack faster? That skill already increases incoming damage taken. Have you used stances on warrior before? No idea what you are trying to say. You think 4 seconds of invulnerability is what makes warriors strong?
When I played Warcraft 3 and TFT you could create a new account anytime unlimited and your MMR would start from 0 every time, meaning there would be a lot more “trolls” that were high level beating up on newbs.
…and even in that game under that system I had on average closer matches than this current Soloq matchmaking system.
How do they math? Can Anet math please? I just want closer fights…..
Is there really a downside to drastically reducing the MMR fluxuation for all players and start new players at a much lower MMR? If a new player is much better than the average new player, he should start with a very strong win/loss record, but one should not be able to achieve top 100 or even top 500 in their first 20 games….. nor should one be able to move up or down 100+ ranks in a single match after they’ve played hundreds of games.
TL;DR – I say just cut the starting MMR by 66%, and reduce MMR change post-match by ~80%.
ya think?
/15
re-logging fixed the issue for me have you guys re-logged?
Everyone in the mists got kicked out of their match, the match restarted, and nobody could get in. I was able to get in after re-logging. Started off 3v2, eventually ended 4v5. Got to lose the same match twice in a row!!!
I use condi warrior and I longbow burn the minions, pop stances to get a good Flurry on the minions (all of them when possible), and then just run around for a minute and they’re all dead. Then fighting a MM necro with no minions is like fighting a wet paper bag.
But then when everyone de-selects Skyhammer, Anet would finally have to admit nobody likes it and couldn’t point to imaginary numbers that said otherwise. Fat chance…
I don’t think they refuse to admit people don’t like skyhammer. I think their “data” is misleading due to hotjoin etc.
I don’t see why every amulet has to be available to every class….
If you take soldier and settler away from warrior it will be right in balance with other classes. Rabid, zerker, and carrion warriors do just as well as other classes. It doesn’t make sense that every single competitive PvP team must invariably include 1-2 warriors
If you give mesmer, ele, and guardian ability to use Dire it would give them viable condi build options that do not really exist yet.
and so on….
Yes? No?
Btw the TL;DR is allow us to “thumbs down” 1 map when queueing for solo arena, meaning you wouldn’t get the map you veto’ed, with understanding it may increase your queue time.
the amount of wins to get one PIECE of dungeon armor is almost as many as it took to get entire SET under the glory system.
but glory system it was just skins – these are legitimate exotic gears that have stats and can be used in PvE/WvW as well.
Do we not think this is working? After the knee-jerk of the THOUGHT of all of this…. are you being proven wrong yet?
THings seem to be going well – population is up queues are down people are liking PvP rewards are high costs are very specific…. I’m getting very close matches over and over. If they weren’t 60% skyhammer I’d have nothing to complain about….
We allow players when soloq’ing to select ONE map they deny from their rotation, meaning you will not get that map. By doing so you understand you may have a longer queue.
Warcraft 3 had this and it was perfect. Although they had like 7 maps and you could pick 2 you didn’t want. You would never get the maps you de-selected.
This would also allow you to see how many LADDER players are not interested in skyhammer etc. Sure hotjoin trolls can love it but this will not only improve game experience for all it will also show you that you are not doing a service to soloq by having skyhammer in the rotation.
And once you see how disliked it is, remove the glass panels and leave it otherwise the same, and you will probably see spirit watch become the new least favorite. At that point, reduce the orb points slightly and then it will be more of a toss-up than it is now for which map is less favored.
Pre-patch PvP literally cost NOTHING to play. There was no gold required and you could earn your “look” through drops, glory, and crafting with mats dropped – including dyes.
You also earned almost no gold. You could get lucky with some dyes, and after countless matches your wallet thickened a little bit, but a pathetic fraction if compared to PvE.
PvE has always been and still is where you earn lots of gold, but also spend lots of gold as well.
Post-patch PvP can often cost to play. There is well over 400 gold worth of skills and runes and sigils and new amulets. On the flipside, it pays for itself. Rewards have increased significantly. It’s much more similar to PvE in the economic sense of being rewarding yet requiring some re-investment of your earnings.
As far as bringing the game modes closer together, they did just that.
I logged on this afternoon and first thing I see in guild chat:
person A – “PvP is so enjoyable now XD”
person B – “I’ve never done it until now, and it’s pretty nice!”
person C – “Are people usually bad in PvP? I consider myself a noob but I’m doing painfully well”
(100%) – (crit chance) = X%
Ask yourself, “Is transferring the condi worth it taking X% longer on average to proc?”
The answer is going to depend on your build. If you’re a condi build you’ll almost always want generosity. If you’re a bunker you probably want purity.
Also I’m pretty sure the dungeon unlocks are character bound, not account.
It could have a queue, doesn’t mean it has to be ranked or us MMR. Simply allowing people to find games.
it took me awhile to figure out how to change weapons with the new system in PvP. The only way I could figure out was to buy the generic PvP weapon, equip it, and then change the skin in the wardrobe. Pretty sure that’s the only possible way. In PvP since there are no different weapon stats I don’t understand why you have to have a weapon to apply the skin to – why can’t the skin itself apply to the weapon slot?
the fact this thread and discussion is happening is proof they could have done a better job.

I lost 300+ gold cause of patch, i got 100 transmutation crystals in backpack and i kept it because i thought you could use it for trading 1crystal for 1 charge and also use it like it was to transmute 2 armors in 1 to get the rune and stats from 1 armor piece to another one but now you can only use it get skins. I got a lot of difrent sets in my bank like 2-3 pvt sets with diffrent runes but now i have to drop it because you only need 1 set for the skin, and there is no way anymore in game to get runes out of armor so i lost more then 300 gold cause of this…….
my main plan was to keep crystals after update and chose my skins and then remove all the runes from my armors and sell them so i would have 600+ gold that i could spend on skinns and runes but now i got ripped off because there is no way anymore to get runes out of armor
you thought you could use crystal charges to “salvage” runes?
why can’t you just use a BL salvage kit to get your runes?
Or are you saying there is no way to transmute the stats on it so you can’t make it salvageable?
i got like 60 charges just for logging in to the mists.
—Glad I got ~180 unidentified dyes
—Upset that some of those duplicates used to be abyss, celestial, etc and out of the 160 unid’s I got nothing worth even 1g. 200g+ I’d spent on dyes down the drain
—Glad I got some PvP rank up chests that included lots of rares and couple exotics and tomes and scrolls
—Was worried my 65 charges wouldn’t be enough for 8 toons both PvP and PvE builds
—Glad the mists is more full and active
—Don’t like the mists are laggy and slow to load – especially swapping toons before a match
—Glad the new build UI is quicker when used to it
—Upset that I have to re-work my build everytime I go from PvP to WvW and vice versa
—Glad there are new sigils and traits and runes and amulets more diversity
—Upset that I have to pay for them in PvP. Any single build is not really an issue, but we are talking well over 400g if I wanted to unlock and try it all. Even just to test out a build let’s say Cavalier’s axe warrior with burst precision – 20g just to equip it.
Haven’t tried the new map yet
I love that I can now fight in town clothes.
The new build UI is much more complicated for PvE folks to understand. Why? Because the old systems were the same so it was what they are used to. Why split into 2 different systems “in the name of bringing the game modes together”??? Also, if it makes sense to make this change for PvP why doesn’t it make sense in PvE? Everytime I go between the 2 I have to re-do my build, once in one UI and once in another.
Why couldn’t you just have combined the PvP vendors into one, and made runes/sigils equipped upon purchase, with runes being sets of 6?
nobody is clear that in PvP they have to apparently buy the generic weapons and then spend charges to apply the skins via wardrobe in order to change their build. this is not necessarily easier than it was previously. also everyone’s pvp build changed and i was able to 1v3 enemy teams and kill everyone so obviously they were not fully equipped and prepared for the new game.
i dont care what you do but if you care that was my experience so far.
i have to pay charges to wear what i was wearing before. there was no clear instruction that apparently i have to buy with gold the generic weapons to equip them because apparently i cant equip a skin, so that took me awhile to figure out. then the mists are laggy as kitten due to the megaserver so if I see my team is 4 thieves and I want to switch guardian good kittening luck of me getting back into the match before it starts when it used to be a smooth transition.
i suggest not listening to these guys and playing and deciding for yourself.
everything everyone is saying about the patch is speculative. it won’t be exactly like anything thinks it will.
how about you play for awhile after the patch and then let US know how the changes affect yourself, the new player?
It’s almost noon here…
sucks to be in Europe right now :/These topics happen every patch day. I don’t understand it. You guys know Anet is based in the western US, this should be nothing new.
According to the said ANet, one of them posted the exact time when the patch should go live, and that time passed ~20 minutes ago.
No anet employee posted when it should go live; if they did, provide a quote.
HOWEVER, The window for getting the 5 transmutation charges gets smaller every minute, and in 4 hours, you risk having timezones without any ability to get them whatsoever because they’ll be asleep/at work/etc.
what? no matter what time the patch goes live today, the window to get your stones will be minimum 24 hours.
its turning into a roughly 3-5 months consistent PvP to get dragon.
yay this means with being rank 49 it will translate to 65 or so plus 5 free charges and that means i can spend all my charges and be able to wear all the gear I’m already wearing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pretty sure you will be rank 53, depending on where you are withing the rank of 45.
im rank 49 and I will be around 65 if I am reading things correctly.
i only started consistently pvp’ing in november and don’t play hotjoins so I am estimating under the new system and increased rank points, consistent PvP players will be able to go from 1 to dragon in 3-5 months average.
yea I don’t think these are hacks I have never seen them and nobody I know has either so….. only thing I’ve seen are engineers who literally cannot be stomped. They are downed and my team repeatedly stomping them but nothing happens, and they cannot be cleaved for damage and eventually heal themselves back up.
I don’t think it’s a hack though I think it’s a bugged engi skill that is kittening things up.
What happens to the gear we bought via gems and converted to PvP? Do we have to like… Get them from PvE to use or what?
you have to pay charges to use them from wardrobe apparently, even though you already have them equipped and they never required transmutation to use.
I’m rank 48 so I will get bumped to around 60 or so which means…. I won’t even have enough charges to put all my gear back on that I’m already wearing.
Maybe if I un-equip all my PvE gear and put all my toons in the Mists can I get it to default to my current PvP gear instead? Isn’t there a way I can pick which of the 2 sets I want to default to when it starts? Devs plz? halp
so i have 8 classes = weapons + armor is total somewhere around 70 total transmutation charges I will have to use to get back the same gear I already am wearing!!!!!!!!!???
edit: bold
it seems odd that we would have to pay transmutation charges to equip gear we are already wearing currently….. or maybe its just me
somehow i expect if after the patch the character you log on as is already in HotM then you will have your PvP dyes assigned and they will carry over when you leave to PvE. and the opposite will be true if your character was in a pve zone when you first logged in after the patch.
i meant to say you should not be able to see enemy ranks until end, just allies.
you should be able to see ally ranks from start, enemy ranks from beginning. win record and leaderboard position would be nice too, except it should be class-based and not account based because I often get good players trying out alts and that is always, inevitably, a hard loss due to mistaken MMR (and it works the same way if I try a new class)
queues are long i want to queue for both and play whichever comes first. plz!
ive never seen a top tier team pvp game where even teh best bunker held 1v2 for more than a minute.
This is why you can lose 200+ ranks in a single match. You get a better rated team but it’s all thieves and mesmers against a war/guard/necro/thief/engi and you lose due to class composition and MMR thinks you suck because you lost to a lower ranked team.
And vice versa you can gain 200+ ranks in match for same reason.
No leaderboard that you shoot around the ranks so hard even after hundreds of matches will ever be valid.
Yes if simply could add option to allow PvE gear stats into our custom arenas would be able to get a lot more people to come into the custom arena and duel etc. Then it’s a hop, skip, and a jump away from converting them to competitive PvP.
Thanks for the comments! To clarify
1. Point of ongoing progression is you keep getting reward chests and new titles (recognition). Many players are losing a million+ rank points that count for nothing. This would at least provide continuous reward and recognition
2. This is a real issue that keeps PvP player base from growing
3. This doesn’t seem like something to work towards. It should be very easy to code and implement, and there are no downsides I can think of.
4-5. obviously
6-7. a more involved and drastic change that would impact the entire game. probably too late to consider anything like this. #7 by itself however could be very useful – would not necessarily be OP considering the durations/stacks can’t be factored in.
8. pleeease this would make skyhammer a soloq-worthy map. if not, leave it in hot-join only.
9/10 – replay value increase yes please.
11. would not change players – each of the 5 would be the same 10 players just swapping teams around per match – stil would spawn at start of match 3, tranq at start of match 5
12. another big change probably too late to consider but if not, worth doing so. Maybe even give stealth classes an option to choose whether they want longer duration but can’t cap and have revealed, or shorter duration and can get knocked out but can cap and no revealed and aegis on stealth.
13. The limitations on point requirements can prevent any crazy builds. Even can have it where you have to start with an amulet and you can shift points within those 3 stats, but none below the minimum level. This simply allows for some more build variety and the ability to create better counters to whatever the meta is.
14. fun times! not really PvP but can effectively train people to be better PvP’ers and give people something to do while in queue. Almost like a whole new game mode due to leaderboards. I could spend a lot of time here.
15/16 – can’t think of any good argument against these???
if it was 1.5 points maybe. not 2.
A lot of you suggestions seems to be more of a personal preference versus what the developers want for their game aka useless rank, while another bunch of them are things they are coming to the game down the line aka build saving.
Others like 13 leads to more trouble than ever before. others like 10. are only an issue because Arenanet couldn’t balance a chair on a flat surface if they tried.
priority for condition clearing defeats the purpose of covering conditions, the problem seems to be how easy conditions are spammed so why not do something about that instead.
The only reasonable sane suggestions are 4, 5, 8,9,12, 15 (but only 1 per rally and if multiple people are hiting the highest damage overrall during the fight and down gets the rez).
Keep stealth moves, but remove cut movement bonus to -50% of the normal combat speed but include a trait that reduces it to normal combat speed but put in in one of those defensive lines. Or don’t cut movement speed but any damage dealt breaks out of stealth and you cannot be under it for more than 7 seconds.
oh and really you disagree with #2 and #3? I’m really curious as to why?
you want logic? kitten yourself!
what you really need to worry about are warriors that have double endure pain, greatsword and sword, berserker stance, and stability. you cannot stop them from getting to point and they can get back to orb before you pick it up – but if you make them use CD’s running orb then they are vulnerable to kill when they get back to it.
As someone who mains a warrior I can say with great confidence that even with all my stances (Endure pain, Berserker’s stance etc.) I would never be able to solo an orb with four people attacking me. Not against four people.
you can if you had a greatsword and a sword with your stances off CD
also # silvermember I assume suggestions like #1 etc are “unreasonable” or “insane” are simply because you feel Anet would never do it?
