So it makes sense to make the game appeal to the casual players, simplifying it because those are the people more likely to pay.
It is the other way around. The game was DESIGNED to appeal to casuals, and the business model was (smartly) adapted as a consequence.
Think about it: hardcore-focused MMOs are all subscription based. GW2, from the start, wanted to be a game you don’t feel compelled to play, that’s why they added the cash shop instead of a subscription.
My WvW gear (power build):
- Zerk weapons
- Zerk armor with Traveler runes
- Mix of trinkets for a little bit of added Vitality/Toughness
I prefer to switch out trinkets than to switch out armor, because it’s easier to obtain them without spending a lot of gold, you don’t have to buy multiples of runes, and if it turns out I don’t actually want that Soldier’s ring or whatever later, it’s very easy to recycle it for a different character.
Plus, if you play pvp or Fractals, you end up drowning in ascended rings with every stat combination you can think of.
Having been away playing other games I have to say, the movement/controls in this game feel very off. I guess I got used to it playing this for a while, but they’re slow and cumbersome compared to other games. Just not feeling fluid to me. Maybe it’s just me?
Can you elaborate a bit? What feels clunky? The first thing you want to do is remap your movement keys to move forward/backward and strafe, and turn with your mouse. Maybe that will help.
Only two champion titles? I am a casual and I already have three. Come back when you have eight of them :P
Two Words:
Ascended Downscaling
Too late for that. The grind crowd would riot.
You’re seeing more power necros because the build currently is very trolly and easy to pick up and play at a standard level. It’s not a lot of effort to roll someone with lich form or downed damage or the procs it has. Once more pugs realize you focus the necro first because it can’t survive in any build any type of proper focus they’ll go find a better class. Class needs a rework before these things get balanced out though.
You are optimistic. I would have said “once more pugs realize it is a good idea to focus the player with a little target on his head”.
Sorry, I just don’t see it. What are people hating on?
A lot of builds in the game have less condition removal than what EB provides. If you play an evasive build (something with se-d) or a ranged build, you should try to get rid off EB and go into a different line, just to try.
Aren’t you allowed to take screenshots? Everyone here is talking about how amazing the Itzel village is, but I haven’t seen a single picture.
alongside the Foot in the Grave buff they got recently.
Power necros don’t usually take that trait. I suppose the lich buff has more to do with it, as well as the downstate damage buff.
Where did you see warrior hate? Warriors are usually welcome in pvp, because they run support builds most of the time. Shoutbow is not OP maybe, but it is the strongest and most important build in the current meta.
The only time I really hate on warriors is in WvW, because they can just (and will) run away from you if they get outplayed, which is not really warriory, if you ask me.
This is the hardest thief counter in the game
Not with vamp runes. Then this trait carries you hard.
Didn’t notice the mesmer part (maybe because I mostly play mesmer and the MM tries not to put other mesmers on my team), but I do see an awful lot of necros recently. Rangers have made a huge portion of the soloq crowd since the LB change.
I guess people like playing zerker professions lately, and necro and ranger are the most effective provided you don’t face focused fire. No idea about mesmer though. Maybe it’s the chronomancer and reaper hype, like you said.
I am okay with the removal of the Applied-buffs, but there should also be a nerf to ascended gear then.
I don’t know about you, but most of my ascended gear comes from WvW. I got my accessories from the seasons, my amulets and rings from the WvW laurel merchant, and my weapons and armor pieces from random drops in rank chests (I’ve gotten a few rings and weapons from pvp as well). WvW is actually the fastest way to obtain ascended trinkets.
As of the armor and weapons, the stats they give are ridiculously small compared to Applied Fortitude. If you do want them however, they are not PvE related in anyway: you can craft in your home BL. WvW rewards are not that great unfortunately, but good enough to get you enough gold to afford these items.
This is unfair for who played WvW for long time and is happy to say “I spent 300 WvW ranks to carry 5+ supplies” or “I have all the WvW rank buff”. But is ok. There are no (non-ridiculous farming) titles, no skins, no stat bonus, no good loot. Nothing for the WvW player.
I am a WvW player, and I have unlocked those guard stacks. Yet I think they are ridiculous, and I am glad they are being removed.
Aren’t you tired of being forced to kill dumb NPCs when you respawn, just to feel useful again? That’s PvE! WvW players have been complaining about ascended when it came out, and yet ascended armor gives 5% more power, while Applied Fortitude can add 15% to your HP! When you lose to someone with guard stacks when yours are not up, you always wonder what could have happened. Enough of that! Skill-based combat is better than stat-based combat.
If you are incapable of beating a new WvW player without your guard stacks, it is a player skill issue. I like GW2 because there is no gear treadmill. Those guard stacks were a stats treadmill and I am glad they will be gone soon.
It would make anything with Mug and a dagger off-hand unplayable, because of the reveal caused by mug. So you couldn’t do a steal→CnD combo.
I actually like the idea of having leagues. I suggested that once long time ago.
But I also liked the MMR Leaderboard.. Could we have both?
I wonder..
I would love a league system. However, I fear the player base is a little too small for that. Maybe after HoT?
You can actually get gear faster from dungeons. You have to craft some of the pieces with the mountain of gold being thrown at you.
For the skins however, I am close to getting the “Dungeoneer” title, having only three explorable dungeon paths, ever. But since it is the only skins you get in pvp (glorious armor excluded), I think this is acceptable.
i dont queue up for ranked because of elitists. they see me on my mes, they will be already calling me names and tell me off. play meta or go away. thats how it is. and honestly i prefer enjoying my pvp than having to block 5-10 people a day just so they stop yelling at me for not playing the way THEY want me to.
Good news! The team with a mes destroyed Orange Logo this time around in ToL.
I am pretty sure that selan is not Misha. And I wouldn’t use the word “destroyed”: it was a 3-1, with some close games.
But yeah, having a mesmer on your team is not a handicap, if you are attentive to where the Portal is.
We know you are Poliator. It is written in red next to your comment. Duh.
I don’t really like this idea. In a team game, I find normal that rallybots exist. I could object to your proposition that the solution would have been for your team mate to not die. Your team is punished for playing badly.
In addition, for a rally to be effective, both involved players must have stayed in combat since the damage to each other was dealt. So, in a way, even if it is on the other side of the map, it is still the same team fight.
Ask yourself: how many times have you been saved by your mesmer downing a free-casting ranger in under a second, and stomping him before his team mates can get to him? Surely, such skillful plays should be rewarded.
Also the whole pre-made argument. I think it must be down to different comps and MMR ratings of players, because 80% of the pre-mades I come across are just a group of friends or a PvE guild trying out some PvP and they still get rekt. It’s sad but I only really come across true pre-mades when I’m in a group anyway, and then it doesn’t matter as much.
Same here. I only face premades when I trio queue (sometimes duo), and then it is rather balanced. I would say I win around 50% of my games against full guild premades.
edit: oh, and my premade of IRL friends will kick your kitten :p
Mad King runes everything, but they only work well on a ranger, with a Rampager amulet.
I agree. If we get back to a decent LB one day, I would like to see more rewards, maybe with a ticket system like the one they use during the WvW season: the higher you are on the LB (starting at 70%), the more tickets you get, with additional prices for people in the top 100. I am not sure that solo players are the majority, but casual players definitely are, and it would be nice for them to get something outside of ESL tournaments.
Another idea I would like a lot is to organize automated in-game tournaments every week-end, to encourage new teams to form.
The guys on the losing team called us out as premades eventhough we weren’t
I call it premades when I see one guild tag or an actual competitive team, not based on some score speculations.
Just because you get rekt 500-80 or find yourself in a 1v2/3 constantly doesn’t mean it’s a premade.
Please, don’t project your own pvp experience on everyone.
It is true however, that many (if not all) of us have been in the situation, described by MAN, of being called a premade when in a full solo team. It is also true that in the first weeks after the December patch, when the devs were answering the threads complaining about the whole “solo-vs-premade” issue, the OP ended up being proved wrong by John Davis every single time.
It is not difficult to believe that people would blame anything instead of admitting they could have played better. It is a very, very plausible hypothesis that many people are under the impression of being against a premade, comforted only by their ego. And yet you think this is a particular case?
Eh, my local basketball court functions as a soloq, random 4v4’s. People can be very rude irl; pushing, shoving, and calling you out as someone who can’t play when they contributed nothing to their team, sooo kinda like our beloved HoTM soloq lol.
Really? Well, I shouldn’t be surprised. Competitive environments have this effect on people. But in general, the rudeness is toned down when you are facing the person, and you can not hide behind your computer screen.
Best thing you can do is ignore. “:)” or “lol”
I usually keep a Packet of Salt in my inventory to ping in cases like this.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Packet_of_Salt
If you mean something that can actually kill the Thief. There is no such thing, a Thief can disengage from everything. He dies when he overcommits, but thats a mistake made by the Thief and not a play from his opponent.
By that logic, nothing can kill a GS/sw-wh warrior. That doesn’t mean it has no hard counter.
1) Condi engi (or even celestial, but he won’t be able to push you out of your SR)
2) Anyone with a Stealth Trap :P
The only thing I really farm is Black Lion Keys. I do it because I enjoy it and it gives me a nice income. I don’t think BLK farmers are really hurting the game since all they really do is bring down skin prices for those that want to buy them.
BLK farmers, you are the real MVPs.
There isn’t anything in the game similar, so they’d have to create new code just for this.
It wouldn’t be easy, I’ll give you that. But Custom Arenas are already password locked, so that’s not exactly a first in the game.
I agree with Provost. Anet definitely went overboard with this “execution”. It is not the eighteenth century anymore: we don’t have to warn the population by having public executions. Just ban the guy and move on. That’s bad publicity.
it is probably going to be named “Sniper” due to OP’s post in reason #2. This “Sniper” is going to most likely be power-based since it fits the theme of the .
I agree that rifle is a plausible choice. However, for the name, I’ll put my money on “marksman”, which is a little bit more lore friendly. Who wants to bet? I’m on EU.
edit: “sharpshooter” is possible, but less cool.

Do you expect people to take your poll seriously with how biased these questions are? And there is no option for 1-4 man queue, 1-3 man queue, 1-2 man queue and full premade queue. What are you trying to achieve? Getting rant buddies?
Yes.
k
More likely they will try to blame a ranger for it even if there aren’t any in the group
kitten, I’m spotted.
To make a TL;DR, Emperor Hirohito.
Ok, now I HAVE to change one of my character’s name to “Emperor Hirohito”. No name-stealerino plz.
Stop harassing Anet with useless posts.
I agree that this suggestion is bad, but it is often raised, and it is not totally useless to remind people why it is bad. Let us not decide what is worthy of being on the forums and what is not. Freedom of speech and all that kitten.
Dude, you do know that most people, in real life at least, deal with frustration politely, right? I know that this is an online gaming thing, but trash talking people is a really bad habit to have. Imaging you were doing that in a “soloq” volley ball game with strangers at the beach! Just chill out, there is no excuse for being rude.
Also, hotjoin is only here to test how well your build holds against a zerg (I test my WvW builds there). Zerglings be zerging mate! If you want to play and have fun, go to unranked. If you want to trash talk, go to ranked. Simple as that.
Ranked is like a salt mine.
I need your authorization to quote this expression in the future.
I like playing ranked on professions I know well, with meta or semi-meta builds, because the overall level is better.
Unranked is a place to experiment with (not too) weird builds and to have some casual fun. No need to swap professions if you are stacking, no need to discuss an opening strategy if you don’t really feel like it, and overall less flaming. You encounter the occasional rager, but it is overall a better experience if you queue solo.
In addition, it is nice to not play Foefire or Niflhel every game. If I want a pleasant Khylo game, I go to unranked.
The reason why assassin’s is considered better than zerk for mesmers in most isntances is because of reflects. More power does not increase the damage of reflected projectiles, while more precision does increase their chance to critically hit. Another less important reason is because it procs on crit traits/sigils more often.
Oh ok, thank you for this precision. I rarely play PvE on my mesmer.
On the WvW side of things however, you are better off with berserker gear. Your choice.
20-25mins were no surprise back then
Your questions are heavily biased.
I did that on purpose because we both know what’s better for the community
Why a straw poll and not another rant thread then, Stalin? Wait, you did both.
20-25mins were no surprise back then
Yep, you got it. Nobody played in soloq when we had the choice. I don’t know why you are so nostalgic. The overall level has increased in soloq (facing partial premades has forced even the more reluctant to rotate a bit). Every decent player played in teamq because of how awful the queue times and rotations in soloq were.
I agree with you on the LB part, but your poll is a joke. Your questions are heavily biased. You are not helping your case at all.

Careful! Assassin gear was better before April 2014, but if I am not mistaken, the best stats for PvE and WvW (on power builds) would be berserker.
To get the gear, well, it depends on what you like to do. If you like to play WvW, you can have the gear very easily with badges of honor. You can go even faster if you play on Edge of the Mist. You won’t be able to salvage it tough, so either be sure that you want your runes on this set, or use cheap runes. I think this is the fastest method if you start from 0 gold and don’t want to grind.
If you like dungeons, buy an armor with dungeon tokens.
A relatively cheap way to gear up is to craft your armors and weapons, or buy them on the TP.
You can win armor pieces in pvp through reward tracks.
For your trinkets, buy the ascended amulet in WvW for laurels and badges, as well as your rings. I suggest you get your accessories from the Temple of Balthazar in Orr (I think that’s the one with zerker gear, not sure though), since the only cheap way to have ascended accessories is through guild commendations or WvW seasons.
You can have cheap exotics back pieces from karma in Orr, or by crafting one with any lvl 400 craft you like. Good luck!
i believe that the hardest rotation to 1vs1 has to be engi and the most glass class is mesmer what you guys think?
There is no “rotation” on an engineer. It is more of an elementalist thing, because kits have no CD. While certain combos are well known, each engineer has different ways of playing his build.
I think different players have different play styles. For example, mesmer is difficult, but I had no trouble getting used to it, because I think it suits me well. On the other hand, I have tremendous difficulties to play elementalist (fresh air, but even on celestial I’m not that good), because I just don’t have the right mindset. That’s why you’ll probably get a lot of different answers.
People keep telling me to go S/F or S/S in Dungeons, and I’m just here, spamming my Illusionary Berserker and shattering like a boss.
You need to learn the mechanics of dungeons, boon sharing and why people stack.
I leveled my mesmer using greatsword, with the staff as my secondary weapon. It works great. The GS may not have as much damage as the sword, but you are certainly safer at range than in melee range. Mesmer’s are lightly armored and take lots of damage.
I did try the sword a few times. I died far more often. So I stick with the range weapons. I kill slower, but I die a lot less.
You sound like a bearbow.

PvE is meant to be a chill game mode. Let people play what they like to play.
Stop living in the past, the golden age of online gaming where ppl actually being nice was long over. Welcome to the age of online trolls and ragers. GW2 community is no worse or better than any other online mmorpg out there. It’s just the era we are living in.
That’s exactly what Scipio Æmilianus was saying in 150 BC. Well, maybe not the part about online gaming, but the part about things being better before.
I remember playing vanilla WoW back in 2006. The community, if I remember correctly, was far worst than the current GW2 community, except for some pvp solo queuers and dungeon elitists. Special thanks to the amazing WvW and SW community.
Play what you like, as long as you are not in elitist dungeon groups.
That being said, GS damage is really low, even at max range and interrupting the cast, it is lower than most ranged AA in the game. And it is definitely lower than any power-based melee AA. Sword is better that way.
Also, shatter deals less damage over time than phantasms. You will still succeed with a shatter build though, only a bit slower.
