Condi/Condi-Power Mesmer Roaming

in WvW

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Condition Mes is extremely strong for it’s access to so many potent defensive skills, it’s high stealth uptime and it’s primary conditions (Torment and Confusion) which together, basically mean you cleanse them or you don’t move and you don’t attack.

A lot of people don’t bring proper condition management then claim that this build needs to be nerfed or it’s “cancer.” While it is a very strong build, I truly don’t think it’s OP if you’re prepared to fight it/know how to fight it. It’s going to be easier for the Mesmer to play than it’ll be for you to kill it but that’s why so many people enjoy playing it – it basically plays itself.

I’ve got no gripe with condition Mesmer because I’ve learned how to deal with them. If ever they have their condition removal and mobility buffed, then I’ll have an issue with them. Because at least right now, they’re slow so they’re easy to kite/run away from and they generally have terrible condition removal so you can kill them with only a few re-applied bleed stacks if you’re a condition build yourself.

Condi Mes is no threat to me on my standard pew pew Ranger because I know how to kite well. I’ve had more than a few of them rage whisper me probably feeling irrelevant that they got disowned by core Ranger with a bear pet.

EDIT: And for the record, I hate the build as much as anyone else. It’s frustrating to fight and you know they’re probably putting in half the effort that you are. I just feel that bringing proper condition management and either being good at kiting or being good at pressuring them kills them the same as anyone else. The truly OP roaming build right now is the boon stacking bunker Beastmaster Druid that’s constantly boon stacking, reseting fights and doing huge damage from the pet. It has it’s counters but it’s far more tanky than condi Mes, a lot more slippery, a lot better condition management and it’s weaknesses aren’t even that much of a weakness (CC) because of it’s low cooldown Stability/stunbreaks.

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I feel you. I’ve had lots of people berate me for choosing to play a Ranger and while I understand that it doesn’t contribute as much to a zerg as many other professions do, it does have it’s place.

I’ve also had many people make fun of me when I happen to mention anything about my class in chat such as the time someone said “get on a real class and you’ll be fine” or “can you even kill anyone with a Ranger?”

I have more hours in WvW than a lot of people and probably more hours in my Ranger alone than a lot of people do in their entire accounts. It doesn’t mean I’m skilled but it does mean I have a heap of experience. I know exactly what I’m doing and how to do it and I don’t need to be criticised by brain dead zerglings. I may be a Diamond rank but I got many of those ranks by playing by myself or in small scale and I’m one of the few Diamonds who continues to do things alone.

And on that note, I’d bet money I die less, pay attention to the commander better and get at least enough kills to be considered relevant. I may be restricted to singular targets but let me tell you I am the bane of all staff Ele’s. I understand 110% that my profession of choice is not optimal and doesn’t contribute as much as a meta build but others need to understand that a competent player is just as valuable as a player with a meta build.

I agree that Lick Wounds is broken under water (not on land) but there are a lot of other broken under water skills as well. Aquatic combat was pretty much shxtcanned by ANet ages ago and Dwayna turns a blind eye to the happenings down there.

Have you ever fought a Trident Necro in the water? The amount of Life Force you can generate if there are multiple targets is insane. It’s nearly equivalent to Lick Wounds except you won’t even get downed.

I wouldn’t be against fixing under water Lick Wounds but in all seriousness? I think it should be pretty low on the list of things to work on. It’s so situational it doesn’t seem worth it to complain about, no offense.

The lower the tier the more likely you are to not get zerged.

I find roaming is best in T3/4 as I can actually make it to the other side of the map without getting swarmed either by other roamers or by a zerg. I can find fights on my way there and on my way back without getting constantly outnumbered (or at least anything beyond 1v3).

Fights are more frequent and generally more exciting in higher tiers but also with a much lower rate of success due to players constantly adding to a fight. You might start a fight a 2v2, kill those 2 just as 3 more arrive, then kill those 3 as the first 2 come back + 5 friends, then you’re running to get away, then you run in to a zerg. Sure it can be fun but you’re not likely to live very long no matter how skilled you are.

Any tier is acceptable if you’re competent and intelligent but lower tiers are better as you’re more likely to survive a trip from one end of the map to the other and back again. Where as higher tiers, you’ll make it half way across the map and either die or will die before you can get back again.

Given (DA or CS) + Tr, it actually has pretty much the same base damage. Throw Bound or the CS/DA line into the mix and you actually end up with better than RF on a lower channel time and obviously a lower cooldown.

Honestly, I never seen Rapidfire hit harder than Unload. Even more after unload started to stack might per hit.

Rapid Fire is a 3.75 vs Unload at 3.2. Unload does stack might but Rapid Fire stacks Vuln so it is clipping just as hard. Add on the pierce trait and Rapid Fire DPS can easily 5x Unload on multiple targets.

If we are factoring in buffs, Ranger has some of the biggest single attack buffs in the game. Signet of Wild/Hunt if memory serves is a 75% damage buff. Then of course we have the fact that Rapid Fire is also tied to a weapon with a quick Stealth, fast Knock back and an AoE.

If thieves had the Ranger longbow skills, the salt in this forum would reach epic levels.

The build I run for my Ranger is designed to critically hit 100% of the time without losing much Power damage. I’m using modifiers like +%‘s and stacking Ferocity while relying on Fury, Spotter and Hunter’s Tactic’s (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hunter's_Tactics – which doesn’t want to link for some reason…) for the Precision.

When hitting a glass target from max range with Long Range Shot, I’ll do between 3.2 and 3.9k per hit. I’ve killed Thieves/Ele’s who were focused on something else with only a couple auto attacks numerous times.

Quickening Zephyr + Strength of the Pack! + Rapid Fire has gone as high as 19k on a player and as high as 32k on an NPC. On average, I’m only using QZ + RF however.

Thieves are the main thing I save this combo for because many of them are either not expecting the damage to come so quickly or are just too slow to react. But it will 100 – 0 them in exactly 1second (QZ halves the RF cast time) doing between 12 and 15k. I’m not sure what the damage is like from Unload on average as I don’t play Thief but I just thought I’d give some numbers from my experience with Ranger.

Also note that Signet Of The Hunt + Signet Of The Wild + Steady Focus + Remorseless + Scholar Runes can = up to 10k Long Range Shots (those are auto attacks remember). There’s a video I saw not long ago showcasing how this can be done. It’s obviously a total gimmick build and if you miss your shots or if your target survives you’re screwed but yes, Ranger has a ton of damage modifiers.

When I see such a ranger, what happens most of the time is:

Me: “Is that a ranger? Looks like a longbow.”
Ranger: “kitten11111111”
Me: “3…2…1…” pushes a single button
Ranger: Knocks himself back followed by rapid firing into his own face.

If you’re a Scrapper, I don’t fight those 1v1, ever. If you’re anything else, I’ve long since learned to sheath my bow as soon as I take a single reflect hit. For Ele’s, I don’t even usually take one hit, I just kite them with GS while they’re in Earth.

But yeah, at least 90% of Rangers you meet are dumb enough to kill themselves to reflects. Or at least to not realize their attacks are being reflected until they’re half dead :P.

I always lol when someone tries to reflect me and they find that I’m smart enough not to fall for it though. They just stand there for a second like “wait… What? kitten it.”

I would have to say Guardian as well but I’d just like to add that if you happen to decide to run Tactics + Shouts with your Warrior, I believe you could apply some decent AOE heals, too. Still, Guardian is the better choice regardless of build but Warrior can add to the zergs support if you run the right skills/traits, mainly Tactics. Which also has a minor trait that grants Healing Power per stack of Might.

Best Roaming / Small Group Class?

SpellOfIniquity.1780

but a good Druid will play their advantages and not let you get close enough for that to happen and just reset the fight, seen it happen way too often against 2-3 players, their sustain and kiting potential is too kitten good, unless you’re a Thief as good as the Druid, oh and they can also stealth and immobilize you just to make it worse.

It can be done with core Ranger too, although to far less of an extent. I roam on a standard pew pew Ranger and am capable of resetting and running away from fights easily with Quick Draw + double Swoop, Hunter’s Shut and controlled pet CC’s. Ranger/Druid is in general a very strong roamer if you’re capable with it’s mobility. It’s very possible to go entire fights without ever taking any damage besides possibly from Retaliation. I literally go about 75% of my fights (at least ones I see coming) without ever taking a hit. You’ve just gotta know when to juke/kite and Ranger/Druid has very strong potential for both.

Just wanted to expand on the point that Ranger/Druid is a very strong roamer as it has access to many of the key things that make a good roaming profession.

Durability Runes + Damage Reduction

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I started using Durability runes on my Warrior recently. What’s messed up is that I feel like I’m doing the same damage with these runes that I do with Scholar runes. I know the reason for it, because I’m stacking Might a lot more easily, it’s just crazy how runes that are entirely based around defense are giving me roughly the same damage output as ones that are fully offensive.

To be fair, I’m also using Longbow + GS and consider myself quite good at Might stacking rotations even against other players. Still, the runes alone make a pretty significant difference. I’m usually hovering around 15 – 20 stacks of might during a fight which means even less harmful attacks like Bladetrail wind up doing 3 – 5k crits. I actually one shot a Thief just a few hours ago with an Arcing Arrow that crit him for 11k. Again, this isn’t all in the runes themselves but, with the Toughess + Vitality + Boon Duration it’s kind of silly how many stats can be stacked. I think a fair change would be either;

a) remove the 1second Resistance, remove the +125 Vitality and change the 6th bonus to +20% Boon Duration instead of +15%

or b) Change it to:
+25 Toughness
+5% Boon Duration
+50 Toughness
+10% Boon Duration
+100 Toughness
5% of Toughness is converted to Boon Duration

Fix to boon duration and condition meta

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Wtf are you talking about? When you get a heap of conditions on you that means the person just blew half their cooldowns to do it. It’s not instant. The condition build ignorance on these forums is insane. It’s like people think if you’re a condition build you don’t even have to press buttons. You just look at the screen and people die.

I drop 5 stacks confusion, 2 stacks torment, 5 stacks bleed, 6 stacks poison and cripple in less than a second using only one utility. Most of the time that applies before they even see me. The reset for most of that is 20s and that is just the opener.

My Condi Shatter Chrono can apply ridiculous amounts of condi and then reset back so that I have most of my cooldowns reset. It is a continual stream of condi application with hardly any cooldown with a big chunk of the fight completely invisible.

If you don’t think condi is a real problem in small scale, you must either play a very heavy condi removal class, play condi yourself lacking perspective or don’t duel/roam much.

Yes I suppose I’m thinking from a Necromancer’s point of view in that it takes most of my skills and a long time to cast them all to land a large condition nuke. Thief, Mesmer, Engineer in some cases and condition Berserker’s can all land some relatively instant and large condition bursts.

Still, my point stands that there’s a ridiculous amount of condition ignorance even if I was being narrow minded in this particular instance.

And no, I run a standard glass pew pew Ranger, a Longbow + Greatsword standard Warrior and a Trailblazer Corruptomancer standard Necromancer. I have moderate condition management on the first two and only transfers on my Necromancer. I’m just familiar with dealing with conditions so it always blows my mind how people think they’re so OP.

They’re strong small scale/1v1, no doubt about it. But they’re far from being OP if you’re prepared for it but most people would rather use the excuse “I shouldn’t have to be prepared for it they should just be nerfed.”

Fix to boon duration and condition meta

Sigil of nullification triggers on 1 target. It also triggers if there are no boons on the target. What other class besides necro has AoE boon corrupt? Rev has a skill to strip, but revs are spamming resistance.

People have been complaining about conditions since the beginning of the game. In large scale battles in WvW there is so much cleanse it’s ridiculous. I’ve survived getting hit with every single condition in the game, getting corrupted, only to have my allies cleanse and resist them all away.

No one is moaning or crying. People are giving their opinions on game balance. Some people think the amount of boons able to be stacked so easily isn’t very fun to play or play against. The meta we have now is actually stronger than the old stability since old stability was countered by chill, cripple, and immobilize.

Well it can go same with the conditions to be honest almost any class now days can go full condi and do kitten ton of damage without taking any skills. Stacking those boons takes time they dont stack right away like condis do. Mesmer, necro, revs are your friend for boonstrip and if they buff sigil of nullification then that is your friend as well. Also people are moaning and crying about boon duration / condi meta that is right now. Both of them are strong in their own places. And now thiefs thief are also your friend with boon strip so get to know another classes.

They have nerfed the reduce condi food in favor of more condi. They further boost it with increased condi stacks.

1. They also nerfed +duration foods so your point is moot.

2. Condi stack limits are irrelevant to PvP – if you have 25 stacks of bleed in WvW/sPvP you are already a dead man walking, 30 or 40 is hardly worse than 25, you’re still dead.

Not to mention it’s incredibly difficult to get that many stacks of Bleed, let alone any other condition, on an actual player who isn’t AFK.

I don’t know why I try in vain to convince people that condition builds really aren’t that amazing but at least some people are experienced enough to agree.

Ugh, please nerf this…such an OP boon…should be a boon that stacks like stability, and each stack should protect a player from one incoming application of cripple, chill or immobilize…it should basically be to movement-impeding conditions what stability is to cc’s like stun, knockdown, daze, etc….that or just have each stack of resistance protect a player from one incoming condition, damaging or non-damaging.

Condi is already way too strong

and cleanse is limited if u want to nerf resistance then condi should get nerfed as well

people like u who plays cheesey condi builds makes wvw extremely boring these days which makes downside of wvw.

See this is the state of mind that I don’t understand. People say they don’t have enough cleanses, imagine that blocks and evades are the power version of cleanses. Do you have enough of those to counter physical attacks? No.

How come I can kill someone in 1.5seconds with a physical attack and that’s okay but with a condition build that takes 30 – 60seconds that’s not okay? How come you can go immune to those conditions by applying Resistance or cleansing them and that’s not enough but if a physical attack hits you you can’t undo it and that’s fine?

I really will never understand the logic. I’m not asking for power damage or condition damage to be nerfed. I’m asking for Resistance to be adjusted because conditions are irrelevant in large scale combat. Yes they’re strong in small scale but power is still better. There’s just an overwhelming amount of bad players that aren’t willing to learn how to deal with conditions.

Personally I think if conditions were nerfed in to uselessness it’d be a whole lot more “boring” than what it is now. Everyone one shotting each other, no fights lasting longer than 5seconds and every stat combination besides Soldiers, Berserker’s and Marauder’s becoming pointless to use. Wow, how fun would that be? Not very.

is anyone else tired of using the Greatsword?

in Warrior

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Yes and no. For me, it’s basically the requirement to take Defense and a similar feeling with Discipline except that it can be managed to go without if you build very carefully.

I like Warrior but it’s my 3rd favorite because of how limited I feel with builds thanks to how mandatory two of it’s trait lines are. I try to think up new builds (speaking from a WvW perspective) but I can never put something together that’s not using at least one or the other. I’ve tried running Strength, Discipline, Berserker, which is still using one of the two… And I’m simply too vulnerable without Defense. I’ve tried running a condition set up with Arms, Tactics, Berserker but again, too vulnerable and Tactics is pretty much garbage.

I see where you’re coming from with greatsword but it doesn’t bother me that it’s such a great weapon. It’s the trait lines that bother me because it seems like no matter what armor/runes/utilities I’m using, my traits are still going to be basically the same. Defense is straight up too good and Discipline has just a couple traits that make the entire line too good.

I’ve got a similar problem with Necromancer in needing to always take Soul Reaping. At least with Ranger, I’ve got the freedom to use what ever because none of the trees are mandatory. I feel like I’m a bit more vulnerable without Wilderness Survival and I feel like I’m losing my class mechanic by not taking Beastmastery but any of it can be compensated for if I pick the right utilities.

We had been doing a bit of a tug of war pushing in and back out until we had killed enough to make a full push through. Once we got close enough to the gate we saw how many AOE rings popped up so we turned and went for the NE gate instead.

After we capped I came out near the NW gate to grab some supplies and saw all the AC’s there. Wish I had taken a screenshot because it was pretty ridiculous. At least 4 of them were stacked right on top of another on one of the ramps.

Those that are prepared often stay alive, although, it is absolutely possible for them to die as well if they’re not intelligent about when they utilize their cleanses. Much like physical damage, a player can survive if they are intelligent about when they dodge/block, etc. but can quickly be defeated if they’re careless or outplayed.

In 1v1’s, condition builds are often more effective than power builds for their more consistent damage pressure.
Both types of builds require their hits to connect with their target but condition builds can maintain damage over a period of time rather than instantly. There are still hard hitting attacks and utility attacks for both types of builds but the difference is usually more difficult to recognize with condition builds. This is where I believe a lot of the frustration comes from. People are unsure about what they should be avoiding and what they can tank where as with power builds, it’s pretty clear cut what’s going to be painful and what’s not (eg. Warrior Rush versus Bladetrail. Rush = very painful, Bladetrail = utility damage, not very painful).

Condition builds also have more physical defense than power builds while still being able to deal heavy damage. The difference is that conditions are much easier to manage than physical attacks because even if your opponent hits you, you can still deny them the damage by removing the condition(s), applying immunity (Resistance) or by sending the conditions back. If a physical attack hits you, that’s it, it hits you and it deals the damage. It’s instant and if coming from a damage based build, it’s probably going to hurt a lot.

The reason condition builds are allowed to have higher defenses than power builds is those reasons. Because even if the player hits you, you can still deny them their damage. They have recharges and important skills they need to land just like power builds.

For many, I think the issue is just how conditions work. It’s like being shot in the head versus getting cancer. Being shot in the head is power damage, you don’t have any time to think about it or regret it, you’re just dead and that’s it, you f@!#d up. Where as with conditions they’re over time, you’ve got the entire fight to be angry about “why me” and to hate the person who did it to you. Sometimes you’ll even go through the five stages of death… Denying that it hurts, being angry that it hurts, trying to run away (bargaining), depression when you realize that you can’t outrun what’s already on you and eventually acceptance.

The fact of the matter is that condition builds will always be a taboo because of how they work. They are absolutely balanced (with the exception of a few builds. But then, the same can be said for power) but players will never believe that until they understand how they work. Those of us like myself and other individuals who have played/fought many condition builds have learned how to deal with them instead of trying to have them nerfed in to uselessness.

There are OP power builds just like there are OP condition builds and boon spam is no less obnoxious than condition builds. The difference is that boon spam is much more difficult to prevent because few things have access to boon strip and everything has access to massive boon application. Removing condition builds from their viability would only make the game more linear and boring than what it already is. Learning how to fight them and how to play them will help you a lot more than wishing they didn’t exist.

As someone who has played a core conditionmancer for many years (and now mains a power Ranger instead) I want to let you know that the only things I can kill are people who aren’t prepared. Anyone who has decent condition management will eat me for breakfast. I simply cannot keep enough damage on them and cannot withstand the damage they are dealing to me. Although yes, I have potential to deal a very large amount of damage and have very high health, that damage is not instant. Power builds can cut through me far more quickly than I can cut through them because my damage has a ramp up and can be ignored if my target is carrying proper cleanses. This is why I’ve opted to main my Ranger now, my damage is instant and painful. I can kill people a lot more quickly with a Quickening Zephyr -> Rapid Fire rotation than I ever could with a: Grasping Dead -> Enfeebling Blood -> Blood Is Power -> Corrupt Boon -> Dark Path -> Plague Sending -> Tainted Shackles -> Doom rotation. And would you look at that? That’s a whole lot more skills and a lot more complicated than the power build and all of it can be made irrelevant if my target knows how to cleanse it or how to dodge the most dangerous of those skills.

Bloodstone Fen is my favorite map, but...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I’m not a PvE player. In fact, I only leave Eternal Battlegrounds, Alpine Borderlands or Edge Of The Mists maybe once every 3 – 4+ months excluding any time I spend in LA doing stuff in the Mystic Forge.

I always explore new maps such as the ones released with HoT or other ones prior to it like Silverwastes, Dry Top, etc. but I only usually go there a few times to see what’s up then I never come back. PvE just isn’t my thing.

That said, Verdant Brink was the first map I ever enjoyed being in. I went there quite often just to relax and do what ever. Sometimes I even tagged up to lead event trains but the biggest reason I liked the map was for the events themselves.

Now with Bloodstone Fen, I like both the events and the physical design of the map. It’s both fun to be there and pleasurable to look at/explore as well as easy to navigate. The red skies and mixture of landscapes are like candy for my eyeballs. I go there daily for the daily rewards and just to gather some loots.

There’s one major problem though… NPC’s throwing rocks at you from 1000000000 away and being dead accurate. It drives me insane and as far as I can tell, there’s no way to stop it. They even hit you while using the stealth mastery and the damage adds up quick.

Can we please either remove this rock throwing business or add some kind of skill that gives us a reflective bubble while in flight? Because besides pre-nerf PU Mesmers in WvW, this is the single most obnoxious thing I’ve experienced in the game. The second I leave the ground to fly, I’m being pelted by rocks and they don’t tickle either. Especially if you’re coming down near a mob of them, it’ll only take a few seconds before your health is at a critical percent.

Pets keeping their names
/crossarms
Quickening Zephyr cooldown reduction

QZ was actually a big one for me. I use it a lot and I always found that for what it does (Quickness/Superspeed/Fury) it’s cooldown was a bit long. It feels like it’s at a more reasonable area now and I’m happy with it.

Pets not keeping their names never bothered me all that much to be honest. I love naming things so I had no issue having to re-enter pet names when I swapped them. The change has definitely made it more convenient however so I’m definitely happy with it. Gave every pet a name so they’ve always got one when I swap.

And /crossarms just makes me happy for going idle. It’s how I often stand IRL and I really enjoy giving my character that kind of chill/reserved/smug stance.

I searched “gw2” in my My Computer search bar and deleted the cache, unused .dat and .tmp files as well as any other duplicates that appeared to be unused, emptied my recycle bin, restarted the computer, attempted to log on to different characters -

And doing all of that allowed me to log in again.

My last character had been kicked while in the story and I was getting the same message as other players. After taking these steps, I was able to log in to all of my characters again immediately after taking said steps. So I’m hoping/thinking that something in the cache or other files was the cause of the problem.

26 July Necro Patch notes

SpellOfIniquity.1780

And the nerf to Rise? Really? What made them think that was required.

Why do people keep complaining about their 50% damage reduction skills being “over nerfed”? Can no one read?

All professions that had a skill that reduced damage by 50% got adjusted to 33%. This isn’t something specific to Necromancer. Rangers were crying about Guard being adjusted too. I would understand if it were only a few professions but it was all of them that had a skill with this kind of effect.

I’m really disgusted with these forums today. I know people always complain no matter what happens but this was a good patch and people are treating it like it’s going to be what makes them quit the game. For me, it’s probably going to be what makes me quit coming to the profession forums. Sick of seeing people who don’t know how to be grateful.

I just wanted to give my thanks for the pet buffs and other skill adjustments (like QZ cooldown reduction, WOO) that came for Ranger with this patch.

I was going to post this in the Ranger section, and I’m sure it will be moved there, but I first wanted to post it where others might see that there are some of us Rangers who aren’t ungrateful. Seems to me like hardly anyone is pleased with the changes but then again, they don’t seem to be pleased with anything.

Keep up the good work and thank you for giving my Ranger some much needed love (:

Camp Swords Sooner

I give up. If ANet ever folds to these buffing camp demands, among the many other solo player hating requests, I think I’ll just become a full time zergling until the game becomes too stale to play any longer.

I like doing things by myself despite how difficult it is. There are blobs and gankers everywhere , “marked” buff on sentries and towers making it all the more easy for people to outnumber you and bunker builds left and right that are just designed to kite you until they get back up. Even with all that crap that makes it feel like you’re always going against the odds, I still like to think for myself and to attempt to contribute to my server on a more personal level. But people are so obsessed with forcing the blob mentality that I can’t see this passion for solo play lasting a whole lot longer, assuming ANet caves to the cries of their many sobbing children.

I may not have been around since the very beginning but I have been around long enough to know that roaming and solo play is but a shadow of it’s former self. Taking camps, killing dolyaks and attempting to kill other players before you’re swarmed by a flock of them is all we have left. And even yaks can be extremely hard to kill if a player is nearby thanks to the aura it gets (which, although a nice addition, it still contributes to the problem). Before we know it sentries are going to be Champion status and camps will be full of elite NPC’s and “marked” buff and the only thing you’ll be able to do by yourself is to die.

The lag tonight was unacceptable

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I understand that these things happen, especially in WvW where hundreds of players will be in battle with the server needing to calculate hundreds of thousands of different things at once.

But tonight was unacceptable and it has been getting progressively worse over the course of the last week or so. It’s difficult to explain just how bad the lag was but in my 5,000+ hours in WvW, I’ve never seen lag that bad, for that long. Usually you just wait it out for a few minutes until everything settles down but this lag was the lag that wouldn’t quit and it was having some extra weird effects on skills to boot. I was on my Ranger at the time and it was taking like a solid second or longer for my arrows to connect with targets which isn’t something that usually happens during lag. To be sure it wasn’t on my end, I asked map and others confirmed that they were indeed experiencing it as well.

I don’t know how one would go about resolving this issue but it truly was unplayable and that’s not something I say often. I left the map to do other things and I hated to have to do that when I had just recently signed on looking to relax and get some fights going.

Please look in to this ASAP, Anet.

Change splash damage on Cata's/Treb's

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I’m not sure that this deserves a fix to be completely honest. While certain spots are undeniably exploitative, pretty well all of them can be easily countered with proper siege placement.

The only two that come to mind as being an issue is the spot beneath Veloka Slope bridge and the hill west of Bay in the Borderlands. Both can still be countered but it’s a bit more difficult.

If these splash damage places were impossible to defend against and they were being used all the time then I would agree that they’d need to be fixed. Most of them are last resort options however and nearly all of them can be defended against if you know where to place the counter siege.

SpellOfIniquity.1780

It comes in waves and I’ve been experiencing it on FA more frequently than normal since last week.

It’s most noticeable when I’m trying to use Ranger GS skill #3, Swoop. Because it’s a clunky skill to begin with that doesn’t always feel very fluent unless you’re on perfectly flat ground, the lag really becomes apparent when I try to cover some ground with this skill. I’ll have a half second, sometimes a full second delay before it fully goes off or it’ll feel like it didn’t take me as far as it should have.

Of course it happens with any skill on any profession, I just mean that this particular skill is a very good indicator that some skill lag is happening if it’s not quite enough to be sure. You know the lag where you think hm, is that delay or was that my imagination? That kind, lol.

Anyway yes, it has definitely been happening a lot lately and it’s very noticeable. I completely understand if there are 3 whole servers fighting in one small area that there might be some lag but when I’m all by myself with no one near me and large scale fights are effecting me across the map, something is probably wrong. Seems like any time I see orange swords pop up, I start to get some skill delay even if I’m no where near the battle.

Read the article, you’ll see that the likes of @SpellsofInquiry are not unheard in the MMO world : individuals who will pursue nerfs for their own class in order to elevate their own role/build..nothing new, they are others like him on every profession thread

EX: A staff ele who proposed to nerf earth traitline as he considered focus eles to be noobs carried by build
-same with few power wars talking about condi wars..and so on

P.S I find it very amusing…some players asking for nerfs to something they can’t beat, once they beat what is now too weak because of nerfs ..they’ll think to be the hot kitten.
If you wonder where the build diversity has gone from GW2 well….anet simply try too hard to please the whining crowd

There are plenty of people who agree with me. I find it more amusing how blindly ignorant this sub is.

I think this will be the last time I visit the Ranger section. No point trying to discuss anything with people who only want things that benefit their profession instead of things that put them in line with everyone else. It’s one thing to want to want improvements, it’s another to deny when what you want is unreasonable.

Have fun kittening.

camp solo flipping should be harder

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

My two cents

As primarily a solo player, I’m really not fond of the idea of making camps harder to take. As others have said, it’s up to the server to defend their supply camps. I actively try to do so quite often and fortunately, people will come to my aid if I’m specific about how many players are attacking.

On the offensive side of things, it’s been quite some time since I’ve done any real solo roaming. I stopped with that hobby nearly a year ago now because of how suicidal you have to be to enjoy it. Unless you’re a Thief, Mesmer or semi-bunker Druid, being ganked/zerged happens far too often for it to be any fun.

Some players still do it but the solo roaming community has diminished greatly. Most people have chosen to roam in small groups instead of alone and I can’t say that I blame them. They’re just adapting to the meta. Myself and other stubborn individuals however still continue to do what we can manage by ourselves. Personally I don’t do much besides defending our side of the map in EBG. Building siege, repairing structures, defending supply camps, walking yaks, getting in to skirmishes, etc. etc.

If camps became harder to take I honestly believe it would be the final nail in the coffin for true roamers.

Remember that roamers are players who do more than just fighting other players. There may still be people in small groups and occasional solos looking to scrap but actual roamers that are doing things for their server would probably call it quits. It’s possible to take supply camps in half a minute but believe me when I say that any longer than 60seconds is quite often too long, at least in the higher tiers. Let us folks who like to do things at our own pace have a little something for ourselves. I’d be really upset if people took one of our camps and I had to call for help to retake it every time.

or its condi brethren… Perplexity.

I’d argue on this one… I find better use of general condi duration for necro much better than simply adding confusion. Burn guardian cannot make effective use of perplexity as they have little to no interupt methods. Condi rangers gain much more benefit from the stealth from trapper runes than adding confusion to their set.

Honestly, I think the only professions who can actually pull the full potential of perplexity are thief and mesmer (maybe berserkers now, but I’ve only seen burn based ones). And with it, I’d say Nightmare runes are more close to being the Durability rune for condi builds.

Any time I make a condition build, Undead runes are my go to. Extra Toughness never hurts, WvW condition builds usually have a lot of that and +7% of it is converted to Condition Damage. Works on any build IMO and I’d say they’re the best Condition Damage runes.

That’s the thing though, we’re having different opinions on which is the best condition rune but no one denies the effectiveness of Durability runes. Which means there isn’t really a condition rune that’s as valuable as Durability.

Meh, i have fun roaming on Reaper.

I used to roam on base Necro, so reaper is already a step forward with RS2. Although the previous iteration of Spectral Walk was awesome, where you could leap off a cliff and pop it at the bottom – was good for trolling and watching other classes follow you to their death.

There’s no escaping any groups/zergs, but that kind of makes it fun – fight tooth and nail until the end.

I’ve given up on using Necromancer, sadly. I can’t stand dying all the time because I can’t escape a fight when I need to. So often in roaming you’ll need to kite away for some breathing space because 2 or 3 other people join in but on Necro you can’t really do that unless you’re very creative, and I’m just not that sharp.

I love the class and it still has my most playtime but for what I enjoy doing in WvW, scouting and roaming, it just doesn’t cut it anymore. At least before HoT I had enough condition pressure to make people back away from me when being ganked. Now, everything is so tanky and hits so hard, I pretty much get obliterated as soon as someone else joins the fight. It’s nothing I’ve got against the class, I’m just not skilled enough to deal with it’s huge vulnerability while solo in WvW.

Anything is a viable roamer if you’re good enough with it. I’m certainly not terrible with Necro but I’m no where near good enough to be alone with it against all the ganks happening out there. Upsets me so much… I don’t want to shelve the class but I already did over a month ago.

How to fight Druid in WvW?

in Ranger

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

@Crapgame.

Anduriell’s reaction was much more suspicious/paranoid than yours but anyway..

I understand where you’re comming from, which is a an experienced veteran ranger which you seem to be imo, who knows pretty much all ins and outs.
Not everyone is so experienced and people can get one-shotted in WvW by a ranger, right? Maybe he/she is new to an MMORPG and plays WvW in masterwork gear or something, we don’t know. Indeed we don’t know much about the backstory, I fully agree. That doesn’t mean it’s a veteran too that is looking for a nerf.
Why would exp people go post in an certain profession subform that they get one-shotted to get devs to nerf that profession.
Why wouldn’t people just say out loud that they find that certain profession to be OP, instead of complaining they get one-shotted? We’re not in 4th grade anymore right? We can say things the way they are. Prolly not something for you to answer, you can’t speak for others

But anyway, it really doesn’t seem that way in that case for all we know, for now it seems he was just asking how it could be possible in WvW by a ranger? I actually took it as a compliment to the ranger.

Ranger and Necromancer have always been my two main characters but for the longest time, I considered Necromancer my true main. I used to reside primarily in the Necromancer forums but over the past few months, Ranger has become my new true main.

Since making that transition and visiting the Ranger forums more frequently than the Necromancer’s, I’m noticing that this community is a lot less friendly. Any time someone so much as insinuates something is strong, everyone freaks out and starts throwing around insults. I mean I’ve played Ranger for years, I understand how ANet loves to nerf us but people here really need to relax. If someone asks an honest question there’s no need to attack them over it the same way there’s no reason to avoid discussing something that might be over tuned.

Wouldn’t put it by them. I remember before the north west inner gate exploit in SMC was fixed they would send a Mes to port in their entire zergs on a ritual basis. There was no point in defending once they got through outer because they’d just skip the inner gate and go straight to lord.

I also remember during golem week when about 95% of their server was abusing the golem buff exploit and the golem + FGS exploit. Although every server was abusing these exploits, Mag was doing it on such a large scale that was uncommon to find anyone that wasn’t using the bug.

For the situation you describe, it is probably a coincidence. There’s also such a thing as skill groups. Just because they can wipe groups larger than them doesn’t mean they’re hacking. They’re just organized. Still, if any mass bans happen on Mag, I’m not going to be complaining about it.

There are players like that out there that just enjoy watching others suffer. Sometimes they’ve had a bad day, sometimes they just don’t like you/your build, you can never really know. It’s best not to think about it too much because it is just a game after all. At least when players do something like this in WvW, it’s just the simple action of being rude where as in PvP, there’s often some kind of verbal abuse as well.

I’ve had this happen to me a handfull of times but a handfull is all the times I’ve needed to learn to not to try to get back up once I’ve been downed unless there are other players nearby. If it was a 1v1 and there’s no one to save me, I’m not even going to consider using my Bandage skill. I’ll fight back until they stomp me or if they want to let me bleed out, I just go to the map and spam click the waypoint until I’m dead.

It was good of you to stay calm because getting a rise out of you is probably exactly what they wanted. If you’re the kind of person who feels like giving them a taste of their own medicine, I always carry an “Endless Princess Doll Tonic” on me for those occasions. You can stomp people while in that form and it’s always fun to pop the tonic, /dance on them while they bleed, then stomp them in the form. Or, activate it mid-stomp for extra style points.

Personally though, I try to be the better person as often as I can. If someone emotes at me or does something rude, I don’t respond with the same behavior if I kill them at any point later on. Two wrongs don’t make a right and they’re probably not going to learn anything by being treated as poorly as they treated you.

Side note: Raging at someone should never make you feel better. I’ve done it more than I care to admit but 75% of the time I’ll end up apologizing for it minutes later. It doesn’t feel good to berate someone over what has happened in a video game, even if the player receiving the hateful words brought the anger upon themselves.

I ran full Celestial on an Elixir Scrapper and Longbow + Sword/Dagger Ranger for a while some time ago and they both worked quite well.

Elixir Scrapper was the one I was using the most. Traveler runes + constant boon uptime, easy might stacking, tons of condition clear and good sustained healing were quite fun. It certainly didn’t hit very hard but it was extremely durable and capable of fulfilling pretty much any role I wanted. Whether that was roaming, havoc, zerging front or backline. I was using Alchemy/Inventions/Scrapper with the trait that gave me extra healing power while I had Regeneration so it was pretty solid for heal support as well when I was using Healing Turret (although I preferred to use Elixir H when solo).

Longbow + Sword/Dagger Ranger was pretty nice but not as effective. With Skirmishing + Torment sigil on my Longbow, I applied Bleed fairly often doing respectable damage, cover conditions like Vulnerability, Cripple and Torment along with Poison from Sword and Dagger and had a very strong sustained heal with Troll Unguent. Because I was unable to stack very many boons and because neither of my weapons hit very hard, it didn’t feel as effective as the Cele Scrapper. Still, it wasn’t terrible, had about the same condition management and similar sustained healing.

I hear that Tempest is quite good with Celestial and standard Ele pretty well always has been. Just be sure to add Boon Duration in to the equation if you’re going to be using Celestial. Being able to stack a bunch of boons is extremely beneficial as you’ll have the Healing Power to make Regeneration significant, split stats between Condition Damage and Power to benefit Might stacks, moderate Toughness to compliment Protection and moderate Precision to compliment Fury. Cele builds never hit terribly hard but they are powerful with sustain if used in the proper build. SpellOfIniquity.1780

Drivable cannons with arrowcarts mounted on the front and sides, a built in shield generator that activates every 5seconds destroying all projectiles, granting pulsing stability and regeneration, an overcharge skill that activates 20seconds of superspeed and a 5,000 range leap that is also an evade. Takes 20 supplies to build and can be deployed anywhere normal siege can be depolyed. Also does 200% damage to gates and walls. We’ll call it the Batmobile.
