I laughed my kitten off at their class descriptions.
How the classes actually are and how they think they are are two very disparate things.
I’m just sad they didn’t get rid of the world completion medal, or at least give it to the clones.
No, that would make our core mechanic actually useful and completely ruin all the noob warriors.
Just wait, they’ll nerf this. We aren’t allowed to be on par to other classes.
No, warrior is designed to be accessible to new players and allow them to be on par with more difficult to play, yet more dangerous classes. Keep at it, you’ll get better.
Generating lots of clones fast. That’s what it’s for.
Regarding swiftness: I do not believe mesmers are supposed to be good at running. Every class has their strengths and weaknesses, and of course: theme. Sprinting around like a sweaty non-clone is neither baffling to opponents nor stylish to potential admirers. Our weapon-based teleports are reliable, utility teleports are good in a pinch, and we have clones and stealth to reduce the need for performing public scenes of leggy exertion when in the heat of it. For a mesmer, it is not so much about where you are, as it is about where you appear to be.
That only applies for combat, of course. I would like to see Signet of Inspiration’s passive split two ways: In combat, it grants the current random boons; out of combat, it alternates between swiftness and aegis.
K, so I can start sending my clones to activate vistas and unlock waypoints? Or do I still have to run there?
So wait… mini pets are toys. I thought they were alive. Oh, Chirpster! You’re a robot!
(Chirpster is an adorable green moa.)
I feel like a god with those stacks of might xD
Congrats, you now know what every warrior and thief feels all the time.
Not quite. We don’t have a weapon with an auto-attack that deals equal damage 33% faster than all others, we can’t move at +33-50% speed, we don’t have 9 different ways to deal direct damage in the thousands in less than a second, we can’t stack conditions without sigils and/or runes, we can’t stealth for more than 6 seconds, we can’t catch or escape from our enemies, and our indirect source of damage (phantasms) have been getting worse and worse since release.
…but, dude, we got 9 stacks of might.
OMG, nerf mesmer too much might!
(Good points.)
Well, TC will probably have only 60% their normal presence during the start of Wintersday. So now’s the best chance either underdog has had to take the lead. Go go go!
i fell like a god with those might stack xD
Congrats, you now know what every warrior and thief feels all the time.
They’re too busy staking mesmers in torurns atm.
I don’t really want to get to in depth in the discussion as it’ll probably devolve into an argument, but my view clearly outlined in the OP. The current availability of kill shot contradicts the bolded statement. In my view the devs can’t see past their own class.
Perhaps it’s a perfect imbalance to drive people to learn to counter mesmers?
Truth is that mesmer is supposed to be a very versatile class, yet all the changes in the last few patches work to pigeonhole you into one build.
Saw a picture with an ANet employee directly in front of one of these in a tPvP match, so I’m pretty sure they are aware of it.
Let me guess, was he
A) A warrior
and
B) Laughing
Apparently two chances to dodge weren’t enough for most players. Now they can stand still and dodge!
Go warrior go!
Thanks for the answers. I’ll leave with my tongue held. Cheers.
Yeah, but constantly recharging it is just busy work. It should just have a normal cooldown. It does nothing to play and only discourages the use of mantras. I hate the way mantras are build and I don’t think I’ll ever use them tbh. (I reserve the right to change my mind. :P)
Thanks for the response, but I’m wondering if HS replenishes all your adrenaline or just part of it.
Because if it does, you have access to 2 kill shots in a 10s span. 2hko on most enemies. Just stand outside a skirmish and win.
(edited by SteepledHat.1345)
Mantras are nothing but the same skills other classes have but repackaged in with annoying busy work. Charging them is just irritating. I say get rid of them all and give me some decent condition removal beyond null field and a passive speed signet.
Nah, it’s just the logical conclusion to a long line of nerfs. You still have portal, right? So, it’s balanced.
This will be “fixed” in the next patch 10 days from now.
Big QA fail.
I’m not convinced that any of the devs even play mesmer.
From the patch notes….
“Healing Surge: Healing surge now heals based on current adrenaline level, and then grants a full bar of adrenaline.”
So my concern… one full bar- does that mean one of the three segments or all three segments?
Somehow I think two full power killshots would be a bit at odds with the following…
From the latest patch notes…..
“We want the Warrior to be capable of good melee damage in a sturdy body. They can still do some decent damage at range, but they aren’t as good at it as the Ranger (with their pet). They have a hard time taking enemy boons down, and instead, have to just go through them with raw force. They may have a hard time with enemy conditions, and may need to ask for ally help in order to keep themselves free of hampering conditions.”
So it’s only one segment of the bar, right?
So… ‘zerker is now broken on it’s second pass. Duelist supposedly got a buff. (I should have taken before/after numbers.) We got a nice stealth nerf with membrane. And we got more reliable swiftness in the form of a random boon and a 2 second increase on a seldom-used-in-combat weapon.
Nice quality mesmer patch.
(looks at warrior section)
Oh, look at all the buffs. How surprising.
Are you suggesting WvW players cannot focus on things other than nodes?
WvW players can only focus on one thing.
A Commander Icon.
Not everyone zergs in WvW. Lots of small group action now.
Wait, wait, wait. You’re saying that if I’m blinded, the enemy blocks or the enemy dodges my phantasam won’t spawn and it goes on cool down. Yet if I dodge/blind/evade a thief attack the thief doesn’t lose initiative.
How the hell is that balanced?
We do lose it.
I certainly hope so. I was responding to something on the first page. If you didn’t lose the initiative it would be broken as hell.

Got some movement improvements coming for Mesmer also. Mostly more reliable swiftness.
I appreciate the response and I look forward to seeing what you have in mind. I would like to ask you to consider granting mesmer some form of passive speed boon for all the reasons other players have stated above. However, I reserve the right to change my opinion after I see your changes.
all getting buffed to +25% speed increase.

So, mesmer can’t catch anything now. We’ll be stuck trying to snare with Sword 3 or GS4. Should mesmer get a speed passive just to keep things fair? Are these speed passives getting a little nuts? Or should mesmer be forced to stroll and blink across the battlefield while trying to keep up with it’s party. Hope you all have your foci, it’s gonna be mandatory now.
Lol, there’s no rule against it afaik. Lighten up. Report if you want, but too many false reports are a no no I think.
Very few people do this in my experience.
It seems to still be working for me. I use it often. Be aware, channeled skills will still hit you if you’re stealthed if they started channeling before you went stealth. Perhaps that’s the situation you’re experiencing.
Yes, it would be better if it behaved logically. However, this goes against the current policy of only nerfing and bugging mesmers. Therefore, it will not change.
I can understand the annoyance if it’s armor. But I’ve worn town clothes a grand total of zero times. So it wouldn’t matter to me. But if it’s armor
I’m GL of the Order of the Pointy Hats – I kinda have to use it. :P
So which is it?
Lmao, the title auto censored. Wizard Hat. >.<
Everything with portal requires a lot of coordination on the part of the participants. That fact makes is not OP. It’s only done by structured groups and it depends on a very small subset of players. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to a cap on the number of people it could move. I never use it in WvW because I’m always running solo or in a small group. I do however, use it to save party members from bugs in fractals and to portal them through difficult jumping puzzles. (Some of my group have a terrible time with JP. Low end systems.)
No. Stop chasing people to spawn. It’s not smart. They want you to follow.
I like all of this. Good job!
Mesmer has a high effort to result ratio. You can expect to work twice as hard as other classes to get the same result. There are no push to do a lot of damage buttons on mesmer. However, we have the best style and the illusion a lot of variety in skills. Oh and portal. (Portal makes us OP /sarcasm)
Mantras are another good example of the busy work they put us mes through. We have to constantly monitor our mantras and refresh them to get the effect of another classes normal “Push button to get effect” skill.
It would perhaps be a foo strategy if we had another reasonable alternative for AoE.
When I say mesmer is hard, what I really mean is that the effort to result ration is very high. You have to work harder as a mes to get the same results as other classes. Longer skill chains and more strategic thinking. Contrast that with all the push to win skills on Thief/War/Guard.
Another thread reminded me of a point, mantras are just another example of mes doing the same thing for more work. Have to charge them and maintain them just to access the skill. More work for the same result. Granted, this might not be so bad if there was a viable mantra build. But mantra traits are so scattered…..

Rangers are fine. I always see them cowering inside a keep or behind their pet. Just like they’re supposed to.
If they target you with a channeled skill, you go stealth, then the channeled skill goes off, you’ll get hit.
I’ve already seen that. The video immediately called to mind thieves and warriors to me. Funny how we can interpret things differently.
So I keep hearing this over and over. I don’t think mesmer is OP. I think the class has a high skill requirement on the part of it’s players. I feel like I’m a decent mesmer. I’m far from the best, and I’m humble about what I can do. But I can’t help but be insulted when someone says mesmer is OP. I work hard as a mesmer and I’ve worked hard to get where I am skill wise. I don’t just walk over everyone like some kind of super man. Telling someone that thinks mesmer is OP this normally gets a remark about how I must be a terrible player in general. I can’t help but be disheartened. So at this point, I’m sick to hell of it. I want some straight answers.
So I’d like to know why mesmer is OP. I feel like this view is mainly a “learn to play” issue, but, as always, I’m open to suggestion. Why am I wrong? Why is it OP?
SteepledHat points out my primary reason for wanting mainhand pistol Mesmer.
Lyss and Ilya are the Mesmer pistols, but they come in a pair. Sure, Lyssa is also patron of assassins/thieves, but screw them. I want illusionary pistols like my duelist.
Actually, Lyssa is the patron goddess of assassins and mesmers. Goddess of beauty and illusion.

Those pistols were made for us.
The GW2LFG site listed above is a handy tool, but we are working on something internally to improve and upgrade our group tool.
I’m just really surprised that Anet supports a 3rd party site like this. I mean, what happens if suddenly everyone involved with the site has their accounts compromised? You told people it’s a handy tool. I’m not attacking you as much as saying I’m concerned. It seems like a risky thing to do – sending your players to an unverified site.
I use GS for one main reason. I’m half way to Sunrise. They could nerf it to hell and I’ll still use it.
I wish we had it. Lys and Ilya are made for us.
