It appears my guild wars 1 account is no longer linked to my guild wars 2 credentials. I now see an option to buy the game in the account management page, but I had previously purchased and linked the accounts before beta. Is this an on going issue or a unique circumstance?

You just proved conclusively that thieves are over powered .

Then I expect you to log into your thief and show us a video of you doing that in a matter of hours. The guys he was fighting were particularly lumpy and unskilled. No interrupts at the end of vault.. they probably don’t even know you can. Likely just zerglets.

Our warrior, DH, mesmer lost to a engy and ranger at home. Had they won they simply rotate to mid and engage the next 3 vs 3.

We actually saw all 3 of them die respawn and try again to 2 died and 1 peeled off to mid.

You just gotta play thief so you can out rotate this. Your team doesn’t even need to hold points for your to carry them to victory. /s

You can carry low rank teams. Matchmaking isn’t bad. Class stacking isn’t an issue. You’ve just got to be good enough to carry an entire team. If you’re not then you belong where you are.

Swapped to guard myself, the other three didn’t know how to swap characters/ didn’t have any ready. But that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. The also didn’t know how to rotate. But that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. They couldn’t target called target, but that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. I just gotta carry harder. Two of the thieves had duo queued together, but that’s not their fault, it’s a me issue. Also, one of them bailed about a minute before the end of the match and I still lost ranking, but that’s not their fault…. it’s a me issue.

It’s in no way an issue with the system; I’m just terrible at the level of these other players.

Sorry, but I couldn’t help it and read “it’s a me” with a Mario voice every time.

Carrying a game as a solo queue is hard as hell. I wish ANet would show us the MMR of our teammates. I feel like teams are composed of players from a wide range of MMR.

I think if you play a support class like Ele/Druid or a class with mobility like a Thief/Mesmer, then you can carry pretty hard, but for me, a DH, there’s a limit to what I can do. :/ I really wish everyone had to solo queue, lol

They absolutely need to show other people’s MMR or at the very least, the average MMR for both teams.

Two teams’ average MMR could be close to one another’s but still consist of a wide range of MMRs. That’s why most surveys use the median.

Team 1’s MMRs: 1,900; 1,800; 1,750; 1750; 800 (1,250 average)
Team 2’s MMRs: 1,800; 1,300; 1,250; 1,000; 1000 (1,270 average)

I know which team I’d want to be on if I saw each person’s MMR…

True, we have no idea right now. It’s the same type of mystery we had when we didn’t know our MMR but ANet could look it up. I strongly believe ANet doesn’t want us to know the MMR of our teammates, because then we might realize something. An average will lie to us. I’d rather we use the median

Haha I hate conspiracy theories but I honestly think this is the reason why we don’t see them.

I wonder why they don’t give us population data, average number of games played, distribution of players broken down by rank and division, and other useful statistics.

I don’t like the word “carry.” It implies the other 4 people on the team are practically NPCs. As if they just /sit while one person does all the work. A carry is no participation required by the the person(s) being carried. That’s never the case.

If you want to move up in ranks, I think a better way to put is to say you need to overperform at lower ranks. That’s all there is to it. And that should be easy if you truly are much better than the players in the lower ranks and belong in a higher rank.

If they added 1v1 then we would hear complaints against 1v1 balance. (The game is not balanced around this at all.) Classes would have severe advantages and a new period of QQ would begin. Just enjoy the same game format you have since launch and the same imbalances you always have!

Andy have never been transparent with participation Numbers. Ever.i think the only time they ever posted hard factual Numbers was in regards to player race/gender, and that was 4 years ago…. but no no meaningful numbers have been published since.

Well that’s disappointing, maybe if players could see just how many are playing and how they’re distributed they wouldn’t be so salty about being in mid/low tier.

I was wondering if there were any numbers published on how many actual active players there are in PvP. Maybe over the last four seasons vs the current one?

It’d be awesome if we could get a weekly status update on how many active players, average number of matches, average win ratio, and player distribution over divisions.

That’s the issue it’s not creating any balance. Games are a clown fiesta, 90% of the time extremly one sided.

And what is the problem with not being able to catch top players because of win streaks lol?

The game is designed to snowball. The entire game mode is strange when you consider the style of combat GW2 has.

MMR isn’t supposed to be a progression system. It’s just supposed to create balanced games. It’s designed for you to not go up in rank.

That’s a big balance problem though. Every class should have about the same skill floor, otherwise 1 class will dominate the lower end of PvP because its just too effective despite not even knowing how to play.

And for this game, lower end of PvP actually takes up way more than half of the PvP population.

But it only makes sense to consider the state of the game for an extreme minority. Any feedback can just be dismissed as crying on the part of an unskilled majority.

It’s not fun constantly seeing the same classes. I main thief, used to main mesmer before it’s only workable spec was condi. I suspect that certain classes are optimal in upper ranks (like thief for example ), but not so much in silver/bronze because they require team support and coordination to function. Hence, hop on dragonhunter.

This exemplifies what is wrong with guardian. Previous seasons it was Mesmer, Necromancer, Warrior, and now guardians. The low risk high reward builds need to be removed from the game period.

This carries bad players to levels they should never attain. All because they use builds that carry the player.

Wouldn’t the player playing less optimally be the bad one? Regardless of the state of guard, you can’t fault the player for doing what is logically the best thing to do.

You don’t get it do you. You should have to put in serious time to perform like that on a guardian. Currently you do not, and that is a problem. Certain players just rotate classes every season playing the easiest class that season. I’m not faulting them i’m actually faulting Anet tbh.

The problem also rears it’s ugly head when those builds get nerfed and the players are at an ELO they have no business being in. They have now become a problem for the 4 other players on their team and that’s not fair to the other 4 players.

I propose to remove this cycle completely by removing low risk high reward builds. You can have low risk mediocre reward builds thats fine for new players, but those builds should never produce really good results.

It’s called balancing for skill. The idea is that it gives a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Here’s more info on the idea.

My issue is that it’s overtuned.

I get 13 for win, 17 for loss. Someone says it has something to do with how much you contributed to the match…but when I pull 3-4 of the different award things I still get 13 on a win. Some people get over 200 for a win… why… only Anet knows.

Devs said this is false. I was misinformed on this at the start as well.

If you are getting killed by heaps, then you need to learn how to kite, or stop trying to facetank. It will not work.

the thing is.. you don’t even have to run into his traps.. he can pull you into them from a 1200 range no matte what you do… even invisibility doesn’t help because his pull still targets the thief for example…

on top of that dh has tons of shields as well to prevent bursting.

dh was already strong and still dh got another buff while others who needed a buff got a “ghostnerf” again…

ofc those dhs don’t want to get nerfed… a profession that doesn’t need any kind of playerskill to get wins … i mean come on those ppl couln’t play anymore since that would require them to get some sort of playerskill x’D

SB 4 is wonderful to deny res. SB 2 is best used as a pbaoe and as denial.

SB 1, I wouldn’t mind a change and buff to the speed. SB 3 change might be nice, but I’d rather keep it as is and buff the speed at which the dodge starts. There’s a minor delay on skill activation. SB5 is beautiful. I just miss the 1200 range.

That is absolute lie. All thief utilities have CDs, steal has CD, stealth spells have CD. Weapon skills are resource based and ini is not endless – ini regen and usage is CD and it is global over both weapon sets unlike for other classes (imagine if necro used staff 5 all his scepter skills would be on CD as well – this is how it is for thieves).

Also, thief is only class in entire game with weapon CDs (ini) not affected by alacrity and which puts them in disadvantage in overall picture.

I also would like to point out that main damage for thieves comes from AA because due to repeatable nature of other weapon spells Anet nerfed most of them to the level of utility.

As far as topic goes: yes, we need longer CDs, especially for highly impactful/aoe spells. Atm it is just fire away and forget meta and i am really tired of it.

You’re correct in that thiefs’ weapon skills don’t benefit from alacrity (even though the rest of your skills do), but at the same time thief arguably benefits the most from quickness due to so much of its damage being on its autoattack chain, the situation isn’t as lopsided as you want people to believe.

And yes, ini is not endless, but again don’t try to pretend like you are getting the raw end of the deal here. Yes, you can’t spam all 5 of your weapon skills back to back like another class could, but you also have the lowest CD on your weapon skills in the game. And yes, FYI, I was talking about the CD on initiative, not making some stupid statement along the lines of "Oh, thief weapon skills have no CD, kitten a kitten ".

The highest ini cost among all of your land based weapon skills is 6, and considering that initiative regenerates at 1 per second, this means you have a maximum of 6 second CD on ALL of your weapon skills. Indeed, most of them are 5 second CDs or less. The top 4 thief builds on MetaBattle, as well as the WvW roaming build, also all take the trickery line, which gives you an extra 2 ini when stealing, as well as you can trait in that same line to gain 3 initiative when swapping.

Don’t come in here with your sob story about poor thief and their initiative deal. Even with initiative, thief has by far the lowest CDs on weapon skills of all classes. By far. Chrono gave mesmer a shield, which came with CDs of 30 (now 35 in PvP) and 40 seconds. DD came with staff, where all of the skills cost 3-5 initiative. Your longest CD on your elite spec weapon is 5 seconds, 1/7 of what the CD is for chrono’s weapon skills. Quit whining about poor thief, because they are not in a bad state if we are talking about CDs.

You claim that the game needs higher CDs, well thief weapons are a good place to start imo to reduce skill spamming. All of their weapon skills on 6 seconds or less CD. All of their weapon skills (except for spear 5, but really who fights underwater anyway?) can be used twice back to back at least, and this is nothing but skill spam. @Svarty was correct, increasing CDs across the board would only help thieves, as their ability to spam weapon skills would just become more pronounced.

You say all this while quoting mesmer cooldowns and ignoring the bonus alacrity the mesmer gets. It’s especially funny given how brainless condi mesmer is at the moment. I say this as a former (since beta) mesmer main.
