@Waraxx: It’s not only a CoF thing. Everywhere in PvE berserker gear works best by far. Using pvt or clerics or knights (well, an anchor should throw in some knight pieces) are just suboptimal – they suck.
A 5 berserker group is going to do every dungeon in this game faster and easier than a group of random armor sets.

So this is why so many people get kicked from high level fotm runs.

Nope that’s about it. It let’s bad players think they’re not and gives those from SPvP something to do when they’re bored. It’s fun to be able to play in some form of PvP with my PvE spec and gear, but that’s all. There’s nothing to take seriously in it, because it’s just a bunch of noobs spamming 1 for the most part.

However, occasionally you do find very good players. I’ve had more than a few awesome duels out there. But if you’re wanting to fight strong players, your best bet is to stay in the heart.

SteepledHat.1345

This is just part of a disturbing trend with GW2’s ongoing development. When are they going to wake up and realize that players want FUN content, not content so challenging that it ruins the fun for the vast majority of the playerbase.

It’s such an oft repeated cliche in the MMO industry, the decision to cater live development to the most elite of the playerbase, on the assumption that they are a.) worth the nearly impossible effort to keep happy and b.) that that 1% is somehow more important to retain than the other 99% of us. Every MMO that has gone this route has dwindled away to nothingness. WoW may have gone to far in the other direction, but their success shows that mindfulness of casual players is the key to burgeoning success for an MMO.

I think this game has a high percentage of high play hour “casuals”. We don’t want content that can be facerolled, but we also don’t want content that is highly frustrating and most often doesn’t offer rewards any where near worth the frustration. However, we’ve spent several hundred+ hours playing the game because we love it and want more, fresh content and FUN things to do with friends and guild mates. Stop assuming that the hard-core are the only ones you will lose if you don’t find new ways to keep them happy and there are exponentially many players and potentially lost players that are casual than are “hard-core”.

If you want hardcore content, make hard core modes, in addition to normal modes, for dungeons and make T3 guild activities challenging, while allowing normal dungeons and T1/T2 Guild activities to be something “casuals” can actually have fun playing and leave feeling sufficiently rewarded for their time.

It really feels like Arenanet has had a major personality transplant since the game went live and it’s not taking the game in a positive direction. There seems to be a large portion of the company that still possesses the soul of what makes this game great, but it also seems like there is a darker faction pushing to take the game someplace that could tumble the entire wonderful house of cards that 5+ years and 300+ people built!

Anyway, I have more of an issue with the fact that another guild can kill our mark before everyone in our guild and also in the same zone can get a tag on it. For example, our crew was working on the bounty where you had to search barrels for the mob. We were spread out search the map. Another guild finds it and starts the fight. Only our members that were nearby to tag got credit even though members all over the map were helping by searching for barrels. I don’t see why this is the case. Tag a barrel and in the same guild should get you a personal reward.

Glory score and team effectiveness

in PvP

Posted by: SteepledHat.1345

SteepledHat.1345

it’s hard to create a scoring system which could truly analyze a person’s effectiveness. And it’s used by players to get a sense of how long they’ve been playing, th thinking being that time and skill to have something of a positive correlation. However once you’re over rank 30 it doesn’t mean much, titles such as champion slayer are probs better indicators of skill, but again not great.

I tend to agree. I’m 66% the way to champ slayer after two days of tournaments. So even that title doesn’t say much. I only mention it because I had the displeasure of being told I was being ineffective due to my low score. But I was never sharing a circle and I tended to stay back on point to defend when needed. Hence, I have a ton of kills but low glory score per match. I’m still new to tournaments so I thought it best to ask to make sure I wasn’t being rubbish.

Glory score and team effectiveness

in PvP

Posted by: SteepledHat.1345

SteepledHat.1345

It is my understanding that one’s personal glory score at the end of a match is a poor measure of how much they contributed? Staying back to defend a point awards nothing. Leaving to go elsewhere when a point is safe and other players are already claiming it awards nothing either.

So why is this used as a metric by people to make claims of superior performance? And why is it listed at all?

I can appreciate your perspective, but for someone in my situation I actually prefer to fight the higher ranks. You see I found SPvP boring for the most part. I played with some folks in my guild and it’s much more fun.

My point is, as someone with a lower rank it’s important to have my head repeatedly smashed against the wall. That’s the only way our team will get better. Just my view.

Thief pve is now unplayable

in Thief

Posted by: SteepledHat.1345

SteepledHat.1345

Firstly, please don’t call mesmer illusions pets. They behave entirely differently. (Must have a target, can’t give commands, can be evaded out of existance.) Also, mesmer phantasam damage is really just an attack. We have two skills that remove boons. One is GS3, it roots you and has a miniscule AoE. The other is the sword auto attack which reqs you to stay in melee range long enough to get through it’s first two stages. (It chains, autoattack.) Arcane thievery allows us to transfer conditions that we have (3 at most) on a 45s CD. We can’t reflect them. There is a difference.

That being said, a warrior far out damages most classes. That observation, in my view, says more about the warrior’s imbalance in PvE rather than anything about thief. You seem to devalue the ability to stealth res. It’s wonderful. You can’t play only DPS in this game. Everyone has to carry some support to create a stable team. Stealth is where thief is most useful in support. As far as thief’s easiness in PvE. You might not reset aggro tables, but you can stall out CDs with no issue on utilities and stall out init regen. That’s crazy valuable. It’s just not easy mode anymore. Seems like issues where everyone will just have to adapt.

Everything else aside, thief is far from unplayable in PvE.

I’ll let you know once I get into dungeons. But I doubt it’s going to be hard. Also, thieves are very valuable on speed runs. I <3 a good thief in Arah. Makes it much less trouble to run through. I also haven’t noticed the thief being much squishier than mesmer. It has more escapes so it’s easier to use. I’m used to the lack of AoE with mes, though thief is a bit more limited in that department. Either way, I’m having fun. I’ll let you know if that or any of my views change.

I have a precusor (two actually) and I agree with Sazgo. It’s not fair to people. I was lucky and had my precusor drop during the Karka event. I was lucky enough to get one I could actually use. I bought a cheap one (relatively cheap) off the trading post. It’s cheap because it’s an underwater one. People don’t like those as much because they can’t walk around LA showing off, but I think the skin is awesome.

But I don’t think the way it stands now is fair to people, and I can certainly see why people are frustrated.

Let me know where I can farm up some luck to be on par with yours. See, I’ve worked to generate a ton of gold only to pour that down the toilet. I don’t mind the working. Where can I work to get an RNG benefit?

The real question is, what’s more important my work or your luck? Which is more valuable and which should the game focus on rewarding?

I think a good balance would be, if the game allowed you to get lucky, but also allowed a definite means to progress toward the goal. Then it’s the best of both worlds. As it stands right now, I could toss 500 more staves or just 4 before I get the legend. That kind of situation eventually leads to frustration. But heck, if they don’t fix this can they at least give us another endgame goal?

best is to drop exotic into MF. Get a legendary at first try last qeek (4exo at 2g50=10g) and another after 21 tries today (64 exoX2.50g =162g).
Rare into MF make you run twice the RNG, first RNG chance to get an exo, second RNG on this exo create chance that it’s a precursor… Cheaper and more chance overal with exo than rare (4rare has 1/16 to make an exotic; not saving money but just making harder to get a legendary that way, imo.) BY FAR

Funny, I dumped 100g worth of exotic staves into the forge and got nothing valuable back. Isn’t RNG great!
