Mesmer, thief and guard for the anti blinds. It’s a stun break+fury too. It comes with reveal/vuln on the toolbelt too to further counter some thieves and mesmers. The auto proc trait is also nice although it doesn’t proc on rifle 4 for better or worst when I tried it.

You did mention pry bar/engineer. What about utility goggles? I normally have it with my SD engi build but there is also a trait in tools that auto procs them on CC/blind. This makes you immune to blind for 10 seconds.

Now this is a good idea, but when you are running the old meta build, is this really a very good trade off for one of the other utility skills just to prepare for a mesmer?

Even though it might seem that the mesmer constantly has blinds up, they don’t really. Shatters have a not-insignificant cooldown, and using them purely for blind means they’re not getting much other than blind out of those shatters.

Applying consistent pressure to the mesmer is the best way to keep the blind from being effective. They have to make the choice between blinding at that moment to mitigate the damage, or actually preparing a shatter to do damage. Since blinds are tied into shatters, they don’t get both unless you let them take the time to set both a burst and opportune blind.

Now, particularly as a ranger, you can also use ranged attacks. While mesmer does have significant uptime on reflect, it’s linked to skills that have very obvious animations. Don’t just sit there hammering on the bow without paying attention to them. Wait to rapid fire after they’ve healed, save pbs when you’re certain it’ll hit, that sort of thing.

As an aside, I’m curious as to how you fight thieves. Even with blinding dissipation, thieves still have significantly more access to blind that mesmers do. On top of that, thief blind isn’t tied inextricably to their burst; they’re able to use it without sacrificing some of their main skills. If you’re having this much trouble hitting a mesmer that’s using a pbaoe blind, how are you going to fight a thief using black powder?

To be honest pyro, I have the most trouble with mesmers, since we can do a lot of damage from range, and now, as I have said the trait itself is good just fix the dodging part. Although thief still being a close second, especially when I run shatter mesmer.

The problem comes to me when you pair this trait with other mesmer mechanics, AA the blind, okay let me rupt you!

I mean its doable but it is a very very very hard battle for me, considering that I have dueled a LOT of mesmers, from baddies to very good ones. I can never see any opening from a real fight against mesmers with your skill level, rylock, and other people. Unless! I get lucky with the burst from mirror blade stealth.

There is too much to watch out for now.

You are NOT asking for tips by saying things like ’don’t ask me to AA and cleanse’. These SHOULD be the ways to deal with blind. AA is an important part of PvP gameplay in this game. You are underestimating AA way too much. However, It’s perfectly fine to openly question the power of a trait. Just don’t pretend you are not.

This trait indeed has problem being unavoidable. We knew it will be a very strong trait even before the patch comes online. It should be fixed that you can avoid it by blocking/evading etc. Since it comes with shatter, players should tend to dodge when mesmer comes close range. That’s exactly the time mesmer tries to burst. Or mesmer uses it for defensive purpose when the opponent is close. Then I think it is a good play if the mesmer can time the skill correct to avoid the big hit. This is essential since now endurance has been nerf’ed and most players can hit harder with their build.

Dude the ones I mentioned wouldn’t help at all even if I they did it, thats why I said that.

Yeap you have fair points, but being on a 10 sec icd just on f1 is hard to battle, you can tell me to stay ranged but that works for the GS’ advantage, they can cast izerker too.

First of all, Let me ask people to avoid replying “L2p” please.

Okay, before I never had any problems vs mesmers, using my mesmer, or any other class for that matter, unless we are talking about someone really skilled than me.

Now, Blinding Dissipation almost makes it impossible to kill a mesmer, unless he is focused.

This trait is an instant damage mitigation not mention it is AoE.

Even with just mindwrack, you can have instant AoE blindness every 12 seconds (10 if traited) NO clones needed so you can you this on the fly.

So now add those 3 more shatter skills, 4 with chrono spec, and you have a very strong defensive mechanic.

I can never really land a clean burst unless they are running out of defensive cooldowns.

Ranger Maul burst (easy to blind)
Engie Prybar (easy to blind)

1.) So how do I counter or play against this? Please don’t tell AA to get rid of the blind, do you want me to do that while phantasms and the mesmer is wailing on me?

Off topic But very useful information:

And this is just the trait itself.

Now pair this with stealth (decoy – every mesmer will most likely have this)
Mass Invi (another popular choice especially with the manipulation trait)
Torch (another popular OH choice Shatter/Condi Specs)
Torch also has blinds with prestige.

Now again stealth + blind is now stronger over the latter.

Now pair this with distortion (any mesmer will have this, more if traited)

Now pair this with reflects (again a lot of mesmers will have this with the newly revamped manipulation trait)

Blink and Mi will have reflects, Mirror is a 4 second reflect on a 12 second cooldown.

The 10% Condition duration always bugged me, I mean 10% for a GM trait is hardly useful.

Especially in pvp that we don’t get food buffs, and we lost the condition duration in the Marksmanship tree.

So I suggest changing it to maybe an effect that is related to the name.

Some examples:

  • Create a bonfire at the end of your dodge/evade ( X ICD)
  • Create a flame trap at the end of your dodge/evade (X ICD)
  • Gain Quickness when you dodge/evade (X ICD)
  • Next 5 attacks Cause torment (10-12 Second ICD)
  • Make the 10% damage proc with evades

You cannot spam Backstab because of revealed. Revealed is the cooldown. To land a Backstab you first need to stealth, then you need to correctly land the hit on the player’s back. This is actually not easy against smart players because the stealth has a limited time. You don’t even need to dodge you know. You can just keep spinning around or run back and forth. There is no risk atm facing a thief because they will die from your random aoe anyway. Two hits.

You people don’t understand what you’re doing here. You’re complaining about a class that is already greatly weakened after the patch. You keep doing this even when every other class is currently way stronger and can one shot the thief. If Anet has any sense they will not listen to your random complaining just because of biased thinking and inexperience.

And lastly, If you get Backstabbed twice in a row, it IS a l2p issue. Anything can one shot a thief now, anything. And honestly, you cannot die to a thief now. At least, you shouldn’t be dying to a thief.

What? So you can’t spam it until it hits? LOL

Healing Prism: Increased the base healing by 200%. Added a 10-second internal cooldown.

Nerfed due to interaction with Necro’s Vampiric Presence causing large amounts of AoE heals. Was not “disabled until a fix was available”, but simply nerfed to a state where it wouldn’t even be picked if it wasn’t a minor. (Some Mesmers on the forums have asked for this to be re-looked at and maybe changed to be a percentage of the base heal, with a slight scaling on Healing Power. This would address the VP heals while also allowing Mesmers to have AoE heals on a slightly useful scale.)

Chaotic Dampening: Reduced the recharge reduction percent of staff skills per pulse of chaos armor from 5% to 2%.

Nerfed because low cooldown on Chaos Storm from (non-bugged) interaction with this trait. While it is still a usable trait, the counter-argument to the nerf is that it is easily countered since anytime you’ll see a Mesmer with a Staff, you know they will have this trait and you can simply move away from their Chaos Storm, forcing them to chase you down and use Utility Glamours to obtain Chaos Armor again (effectively blowing the long cooldowns and wasting skills to chase you down and maintain low weapon skill cooldowns).

Power Block: Reduced the damage on interrupt by 17%.

Nerfed because high interrupt damage…? At least it doesn’t have an ICD… yet.

Maim the Disillusioned: Reduced the torment from 2 stacks for 6 seconds to 1 stack for 6 seconds.

Apparently this was something that was already in the pipeline, but it doesn’t make sense for a Master trait to do so little. Arguably, if you have the right traits and utilities, you could apply 10+ stacks of Torment with this trait (20+ without the nerf), but it would mean you blow everything (and I mean everything. All your escapes, defenses, everything) to do something that most players can already deal with (condition removal is a thing, remember?).

I think this nerf makes most sense in regards to HoT, but since we’re not there yet, it hits a bit close to home.

Do note that all of these nerfs were done within 3 days of the release. Which does makes them feel very knee-jerky, especially since there were no bug fixes or buffs to the Mesmer after the patch (see: “Mesmer only gets nerfed in patches” dilemma).

So feel glad you got to enjoy your OP traits for a week and don’t look the gift horse in the mouth. If you got nerfed every (hot) patch, you would feel grateful for having had something broken for so long.

Lol, it boggles my mind that people are complaining about thieves post patch. Thieves are EASILY, hands down one of two worst profs with the ranger.

Yes, even necros are worlds better than thieves right now, in a burst meta.

The amount of SERIOUS suggestions like BS having a cd, all stealth skills incurring an initiative cost is absolutely hilarious. You people are all so terrible at this game and it is so entertaining to read.

“Hornet’s String, Monarch’s Leap, and Serpent’s Strike now destroy projectiles.”

Projectile destruction is controlled, on-demand, and the cooldown reduction can be taken more advantage of while on sword. Projectile destruction is done during the cast when there are no evade frames (ie: cast and damage portions only).

This way, you can actually Monarch’s Leap back into or Hornet’s Sting away from incoming fire safely. Since these skills have decent cooldowns, it’s not overly strong or random as the current trait.

Yes, very nice.

Still, evade or block would be better for synergy with other things.

No love for GS tho?

Power ranger is like kitten tier in term of dmg now since every class can outdps it, and survive 1000% better than rangers. Power ranger need lots of love.

To make it worse, non of the 3 guys in the video have any clue what’s happening in this game. This is just another bad players video or this video was purposely made like this to show “ELE IS OP PLS NERF QQ”.

I would volunteer myself as a test subject playing a ranger, to give this video some justification.

Grouch, the community must give you a lot of flack for being an engineer main and on the development team. Everyone thinks your bias towards engineers affects decisions when it comes to balance. But confirming this bug, taking action, and having a prompt plan to fix the issue has really made me feel otherwise. You’re doing a good job.

I disagree completely. The balance patch has been out for over a week now. Fix it. It is taking way too long. The rumor now is that we won’t even see a fix until Tuesday at the earlier. Completely unacceptable.

Your definition of prompt is definitely different.

I agree with style, If you want promptness, that would be the mesmer nerfs.

Engie has the most work that they have alotted to, Elite Reworks, graphic changes, aesthetic changes, etc.

Hell even the Engie trait rework presentation was done in power point slides.

Engie bugs or exploits take a while to take action whereas other classes get the knee jerk reaction nerfs.

So there are macho guys constantly saying 1v1 again. Why? Why should a thief or a ranger go 1v1 in spvp? It is a team fight and your job is simple. Ele’s seem strong to many people because it was not the most powerful profession for quite some time. So only real ele fans played it and learned very well. What you are talking is experience and reading the situation. One guy playing a perfect game does not mean the class is strong. If you still think it is strong, open an ele and do spvp matches as a ele newbie. If you win constantly against everyone then you can ignore others and form your own true idea.
But remember, spvp is not about dueling. It is a bloody team fight.

IF you’re capping a point and someone comes, you will be in a 1v1, no one is talking about dueling here.

You will see a lot of 1v1 scenarios in pvp if you play a lot. Especially we are talking about PUGS here.

Also, that high sustain/regen the ele is getting, don’t tell me that is skilled play. The multiplier on health regen is just too much.

Against a lot of mesmers yes, but 1 only I wouldnt think so, proper management of condition cleanse is a must.

Confusion mostly comes from scept 3 and the shatters, remember this is even fewer sources now since iMage has been changed to burning. Confusing Combatants traits is gone. so yeah.

I don’t wanna sound like a jerk but I am willing to give tips since I main mesmer.

It’s not just burning… every condition is overpowered right now on the classes that can spam them:

Nope, Why would you attack under confusion? that condition has more counterplay than burning. Burning does all the damage as long as you have it.

TBH It’s not guardians who utilize burn so well, its eles, with might stacking, high regen.. you know the normal dd ele one..

First, I didn’t attack – confusion now does regular damage too even if you don’t attack you know. Also, Guardians can burn-bomb you within a second, much faster than eles can.

Lettuce, your “demonstration” is just silly. It is a zerker ranger playing like he is a PvE Bearbow ranger – using skills right off CD, not counting any dodges, and just camping longbow. He isn’t even standing at max range to maximize damage, or properly using CC.

Also, the ranger is playing a spec that specializes in +1’ing opponents, while fighting an opponent who is an excellent duelist. Of course the ele who is going through an entire rotation isn’t going to take any damage from a glorified rifle-turret.

That isn’t to say that eles couldn’t use a shave, especially in the sustain from water/arcana. I think the best (first) place to start is cleansing water from evasive-arcana dodge: there is a reason it was nerfed in pvp before. They could remove the healing from the water dodge, and the trait would still be excellent.

I also like the suggestion that soothing ice not grant regen – it makes the trait just another “this is another condi cleanse trait” with an added benefit of reducing power-damage too, as opposed to presenting a real choice. To be honest, I hate that the trait is so passive to begin with.

Also, I think they could undo some of the small buffs done in the past: burning speed doesn’t really need to evade, and there isn’t really a need for a blast on frozen burst.

I think they should reduce the protection durations from elemental attunement and elemental contingency a bit – these two traits are enough for perma-prot without even going into earth or taking armor of earth. Maybe they are about to up the amount of boonstrip a ton, but if not, this is just too much, too easily. Before when eles couldn’t take both ele contingency AND ele attunement, at least they didn’t get perma-prot so easily and swapping to earth was an actual timing thing.

I hate diamond skin because of how passive it is – rework the trait in some way to require having a brain rather than just spamming healing skills to stay above 90% health. It is a stupid trait, that now can be abused because you no longer have to give up water/arcana to get it.

Finally, I think everyone agrees that burning needs to get reduced a decent amount now.

Some of these changes might bring ele out of the stratosphere, but they won’t address the “pigeon-holed into water/arcana” problem. However, I am pretty sure Anet doesn’t have the will to do more extensive work including further nerfing of these sustain traits with simultaneous buffing of weapon-skills and utilities (stronger and/or lower cooldowns) to make the class less rotation-based.

While I do get your point, but 1v1 happens all the time, so what if that happens? the ranger will surely lose all those times, even if he was playing bear, there is no doubt how much regen the ele gets, even with a different pet or tactic, this will still be a very very hard fight for rangers.

How? Zerk rangers will have limited condi cleanse for burns,geomancy,poison while taking considerable damage with high might stacks.

I think the point of the video is sustain is too stupidly strong. While doing high damage if he ever fought back.

With all the aoes from fire and earth, the pet wouldn’t last very long.

I’ll just leave this here. Zerk ranger trying to kill the cele ele without the cele ele fighting back. Take note that he’s fire, not earth. And he’s not even d/f. If it was d/f, it woulda been worse. If he fought back, he would have killed the ranger about 5-6 times in the duration of the video. No matter if the ranger outskills the ele, it’s too much a hard counter thanks to the passive rng traits like blinds, soothing ice, burns from flame legion + BA rune. Just look at how often the ranger has to heal and the ele isn’t doing a single thing.

But hey, #Balanced. Let’s nerf stoneheart. (Trollface). Not even using earth traitlines.

Now can we discuss genuine reasonable nerfs?

I propose a raise in the icd of blinding ashes to 10 seconds or so.

A raise to the icd of soothing ice or remove the regen portion of it.

A rework to diamond skin to proc resistance for 4 secs every time you go in earth above 75% health threshold or something of the sort to promote more “skillful” play.

Scale down burning across all professions.

And I think eles will be in a good spot after those things get implemented.

Regen is really absurd for ele, and thats not counting how effeciently they stack and make use of might will all of that regen/cleanse/damage

It’s not just burning… every condition is overpowered right now on the classes that can spam them:

Nope, Why would you attack under confusion? that condition has more counterplay than burning. Burning does all the damage as long as you have it.

TBH It’s not guardians who utilize burn so well, its eles, with might stacking, high regen.. you know the normal dd ele one..

However, we also gained:

  • 10% crit chance while flanking
  • 7% crit chance with spotter (if your previous build couldn’t run it)

So if you focus on damage, you should be able to crit more, but the crits do quite a bit less damage.

Worthless.

I never ran spotter in WvW since the crit chance is highly overrated if you ran full zerg. Prepatch I could get 83.5% crit chance with just fury.

Look at my pics below, prepatch vs post patch. I didn’t even have spotter in the first pic. You’re only getting 4.1% crit chance with spotter, something that could be gotten with food lol. This is a nerf across the board, period.

I’ve grown a liking to Enlargement, which is a better trait than Most Dangerous Game.

Enlargement gives (below 50% health – 60s cooldown):

  • 5 stacks of stability for 8s
  • +25% damage for 8s
  • +50% movement speed for 8s
  • (traited) instant 3 stacks of might for 15s

This trait will benefit you whenever it triggers. If it happens during combat, great (damage + movement speed + stability), if it happens during running away, still great (movement speed + stability).

Most Dangerous Game should give a flat 240 power and 240 condition damage below 50% health. It’s the same as 8 stacks of might, but can’t be improved with boon duration (nor boon stripped/stolen however). (compare with Last Rites)

But even then I’d still prefer Enlargement, because it will benefit me in any situation where I drop below 50% health.

The power is of course in the combination of the two, but by the time Most Dangerous Game powers up, Enlargement will already be gone.

Anyway yeah I love enlargment, an adept trait too, at the same time, this is also affected by signet cd reduction traits bringing it down to an effective 48 sec cd.

EDIT: Haven’t tested it before but Having the signet trait brings enlargment to 36 seconds, dont know if this is a tooltip error

You can keep making excuses. You can keep acting blind. You can keep giving silly arguments. You can keep pretending that the spec is weak. You can keep bringing up unrelated stuffs to justify this.

You can keep defending this BS, but you’d quickly see a dying GW2 pvp community. (Not like it’s not dying already.)

My favourite quote of that video: “Oh I messed up” followed by “Oh I messed up” and the repeated “I messed up” on an ideal long channel guard sitting there doing nothing but the most obvious channel in the game.

I also like how he used all his utilities, made sure he had all his damage procs going, used scholar runes everything to get absolute make burst.

Go watch JebroUnity channel on twitch, got a game or two with helseth and frostball, check their burst on competent players and use something like that as a comparison.

At the end of the day the only thing in that whole combo that is different from pre patch is the mantra of distraction for confounding suggestions and power block. Could it be what’s actually “broken” is the stat inflation and that marauder has about 10% more crit chance, more ferocity and power than the old zerker?

@mailmail yeah there’s a lot of things that if the ICD was per target they would work better and be either stronger and balanced or less powerful and balanced. I hope those kinds of things get implemented.

Jeez I am sorry I am not perfect and that I fat finger my burst sometimes. Keep in mind that the damage I was doing was to a guardian with 3.2k armor and 21k hp and about half the video was done i swapped back to strength. That video was to show how much damage there is atm, and if you watched towards the end Arken and I started to duel. After the recording, he swapped to mara power guard and i was basically one shotting him. It didnt matter if i had power block on (Mental anguish does similar dps without an interrupt).

Not all of us are as good as you though…

works really well if you slot energy sigils. dodge roll a lot, evade lots of attacks, and always have the bonus.

I think also having the effect on evade would make GM worthy

LoYF is actually kind of interesting, they did change it from 5% to 10%. With two rolls, that’s a 20% burst of condi ticks and damage that stacks with itself and other sources.

With proper timing of your condi applications you can set up a nasty, but subtle degen spike. It’s potent stuff even if you don’t invest too heavily into condition damage.

Also restores piercing to SB without investing in marksmanship. Gives you a new tree to play with altogether. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be.

Mesmer is a bit on the strong side as you all know. Without nerfing the trait in a major way, i suggest the random condition is removed or changed. The 33% chance to get blinded isn’t very skillful, and besides, even without cripple/chill/blind the trait is still amazingly strong!

And this guy plays mesmer too, 33% chance is super low what are you talking about, considering the random nature of interrupts.
