With the patch today. The patch notes say you’ll get the reward either on login or visiting the affected map, so if you haven’t had the reward yet, trying taking the character that has 100% to the Silverwastes.
Did they fix the map completion rewards in HoT? Has anyone confirmed this?
I can’t confirm HoT, but I got Silverwastes, Southsun, & Dry Top completion rewards after the patch, so looks promising.
See this thread, you need to make contact with Anet because they thought they’d fixed it, both in-game and fixed accounts previously affected.

It hasn’t been fixed yet, you’re confusing this issue with people getting their HoT progress reset to zero, which was fixed last week. The lack of rewards for completing a HoT map is expected to be fixed in the patch later today.
So the impression I’m getting is “not for years” not because of hero points but because it’s a lot of work to do 9 specs at once but they can’t do one at a time because people cry if their main isn’t first.
I’m not saying we should expect them so soon after HoT, I was just curious if new specs are even something reasonable to speculate about yet.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they can make new elite specs much faster than the first ones. Since January, they’ve not just been creating the new skills and traits for the elites, they also had to revamp the core ones for the new system – in some cases (i.e. Engineer) this involved some significant changes. Any new elite specs should just be able to slot into the new system without needing any revamps.
I’m not trying to suggest it’d be trivial, just saying that the time taken for the elites for HoT is probably the worst case for how long it’d take.

Well… let’s see. We have..what? 214 in the core world? Another 200 in HoT? It takes 250 per spec, we’re setting at 414 right now of 500 (total) we’d need to support 2.
It’s 400 in HoT, so we’re currently at 614 – enough for 2 and nearly half way to a third.
heirloom bag? you mean heirloom seed pouch champion bag?
Different champions drop different champion bags…doesnt SW drop embroided coin purses?
You get both from Silverwastes. The coin purses drop from the buried chests, while heirloom seed pouches drop from the champions and labyrinth.
There should be two markers on the world map – one at the exit of your current zone (which is often best ignored as it can take you via some very odd routes) and one on the world map at the actual location of the story step. I’m still seeing both, just that the latter is less obvious as it doesn’t show up on the mini-map until you’re in the right map.
It’s a known bug, if you have 100% in the core maps, you get no reward for completing any of the living story or HoT maps. There’s a fix incoming, most likely on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, it is the consumable that is account bound, not the recipes that you learn from it – all recipes are only available on the character that learned them. You may be able to get CS to help you with a replacement, or alternatively, the legendary crafting NPC will sell duplicates of the recipe consumable for karma.
There is a fix incoming though, most likely in the patch on Tuesday. See these red posts:

It sounds like you may have accidentally turned off auto-attack – do you have arrows around your skill 1? If not, shift + right click on the skill will enable auto-attack again.
Do you have the dust in an invisible bag slot? That might affect it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/HoT-maps-reset-on-me/page/4#post5745754
It’ll be in the next release, i.e. 17th.
Are you using the third (bottom) spec slot? That’s the only one in which you can select the elite spec.
You need to complete the first heart of thorns story to enable masteries.
You don’t need to do any PvP or WvW – shards of glory and memories of battle are tradeable.
Possible Legendary Quest Issue - The Minstrel
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

For the event in Malchor’s Leap, you need to fail the event you linked, not complete it.
It doesn’t drop any recipes into your inventory, it immediately unlocks all 4 recipes for that character (the experimental weapon, the two experimental weapon components, and the legendary inscription).
Evan,
I’ve been struggling to work out how to unlock this for the last couple of weeks, and I think it really isn’t clear. I think there’s a three-fold problem with the in-game messaging:
1. At a glance, it’s not clear that bonus tracks for the minis aren’t the main tracks for unlocking the champions, because they appear higher up the list. I have a few locked tracks, and as a result, without scrolling down, I could only see the mini tracks, and thought they were the ones for unlocking the champion. It gets even more confusing with the pop-up on mousing over the locked icon, which makes it look as if completing the track is a prerequisite for unlocking itself – I’ve come across a few people who’ve misread this and thought it was a bug.
2. Mousing over the locked icon on the champion tracks doesn’t pop up a message indicating how to unlock it. It needs a message adding to point people to the PvP UI.
3. I’ve tried looking in the PvP UI before and couldn’t see anything there to unlock. After reading this post, I’ve looked again, and finally spotted the pop-up on mousing over the image on the left telling me to right-click, but it isn’t as intuitive as it could be.
My guess would be Tuesday 17th, assuming we’re dropping back into the usual bi-weekly updates.
That sounds very much like a bug – when they were announced, you were only supposed to be able to access the reward tracks for the ranks you’ve reached (see quote below).
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-reward-tracks/
In addition to Mist Champion rewards tracks, Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns will bring a new series of reward tracks that unlock based on your rank in PvP. These reward tracks give you an alternate version of your rank finisher, themed for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Every player who owns the expansion will start with the new Jungle Rabbit reward track. As you finish each rank reward track, the subsequent tracks will unlock until you reach your current rank, all the way up to Dragon. And speaking of dragons, the Jungle Dragon Finisher is an entirely new finisher made especially for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns!
That’s where I have mine parked and I’ve noticed that also. At that jp it will average one silver doubloons per week per char. It’s not an efficient way to gain gold unless they are mules that won’t be going anywhere anyway, so they might as well open a chest to get the gear from the chest and the occasional doubloon.
I had a character parked there for months, reserving my Revenant’s name. Typically, though, I do a key farm every couple of weeks using a birthday scroll, then leave the key farm character at the JP until I reroll him.
make level 21 characters , park them at a chest of JP puzzle .. open chest every day
im getting 10-15 silver doubloon per week
Go with Weyandt’s Revenge, it has two drops with the potential to be a doubloon compared to one anywhere else. The drop rate seems to be about 1 in 15, so each character parked there will get about 1 a week.
I’ve made it all the way to the final chapter of the story and through all 4 maps solo. You’re unlikely to be able to solo absolutely everything (a number of the hero challenges are group events, for example) but for most of the expansion, solo is certainly viable.
Is the collection complete? If not it’ll show what you’re missing.
You need more than just the story rewards to upgrade it, there’s a few items you need to buy with the currencies in each map as well.
I think it’s a question of how you approach the game.
I’m enjoying hte expansion, exploring maps and working my way through the story. As I go along, the masteries and elite spec are ticking along nicely without me having to focus on them.
However, if your focus is ‘must unlock all the masteries, must unlock the elite specs’ I can see how you’d find it a frustrating grind, because neither is a small task.
Have a look at your achievements – any with a red icon give tyria mastery points, and any with green give Maguuma mastery points. There’s more than enough, I think there’s 60-odd Tyrian ones available.
Have you gone into the UI and clicked on the mastery to complete it? They don’t auto complete when you fill the bar.
You should have some unspent points already, a number of core ones from achievements, and at least 1 HoT point from the story instance that takes you into the new maps. However, they do tend to drop from reward chests – if they’re causing you to crash, have you tried repairing the game client?
if he was kicked for lacking masteries.
This right here is an issue, and it’s a player mindset issue at that. You should not get kicked because you don’t have masteries, given that fractals are core game content. Yes, they got upgraded with the expansion, but they are not expansion content.
It’s pretty stupid given all you can see is the number of mastery points spent, and not where they’ve been spent. Someone with 50 points could have them all in Maguuma and precursor crafting masteries, and so be no better off in fractals than someone with 0.
Not that I’m counting down or anything.
Midnight pacific time, which is 7am GMT/UTC – i.e. in 6 hours 25 minutes.
Although it’s 400 hero points, the new hero challenges are worth 10 points each, so it’s only 40 challenges (or only 20 if you already have map completion from the core game ). Potentially, that’s only a couple of hours. The big unknown is how accessible the new hero challenges are, and how many will require masteries to be completed before they can be reached.
Considering there was a dev post a few minutes ago discussing timing of events Thursday night / Friday morning, I doubt it’s changed. I’d put it down to the retailer making a mistake. Hopefully you can still get your copy on Friday.
From a post in another thread, there’s a potential fix coming on Friday.
It depends on how it’s unlocked. The first elite spec is locked until you complete all of the core specs, so it’s always possible that a second elite spec could be locked until you complete the first.
Personally, I don’t think it’s good idea to save the points for a couple of years on the off chance it might let you unlock the next elite spec instantly, when there’s enough spare points to get halfway there anyway.
But, I do not think it is required, as Colin stated some time ago that it was not necessary to finish the PS or LS to advance in HoT.
Indeed – the quote I posted above also talked about mastery points from acheivements in open world, so it sounds like there will be multiple sources of Tyrian points, just like there are for Maguuma (challenges, adventures, etc).
Found the source, it’s the POI episode on the pact commander masteries: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pact-commander-masteries-on-points-of-interest-a-summary/
The design team is planning to grandfather in players who have already done most of the activities in the open world, and each of the story instances from Season 2 of the Living World story will grant a Mastery point, rewarded retroactively.
No. You can skip the Personal Story, the synopsis of LS Season One, and LS Season Two, if you so desire.
They have nothing to do with Mastery Tracks or Points.
Good luck.
I’m not sure that’s true – I believe some of the Tyria mastery points come from completing LS season two instances. Not got a source to hand, but I’ll see if I can find one. But certainly, core personal story and living story won’t be rewarding Maguuma mastery points.
Also, HoT personal story rewarded Maguuma points in the beta. That might just have been for the beta to give us easy access for testing out masteries, it could also be how it is intended to work after launch.
Implied: Maguuma has its own type of HP, so we all start at 0. Old HP can’t be used to unlock elite epecs.
Nothing they’ve said so far implies that to me. There are currently ~200 core game hero points that aren’t required for core specs, and 250 has been datamined as the likely cost to unlock an elite spec & its skins. That implies to me that there will be ~50 hero points in Maguuma to make up the difference.
One thing to bear in mind – the veteran slot is listed as a pre-purchase bonus, so may not be available after the launch on friday.
If you qualify as a veteran, you will get one slot with standard, or two with deluxe / ultimate.
If not a veteran, you’ll get no slots with standard, or one with deluxe / ultimate.
The deluxe / ultimate slot should get applied more or less straight away. The veteran slot will take longer, and typically get applied the friday after you purchase.
HoT will provide a new way to get new pre-cursors, all previous precursors will only be acquired by the same methods they always have been
That’s not true, we will also be able to craft one of each of the original precursors.
The key difference is the original precursors will still be tradable, whereas the new ones are account bound and can only be obtained by crafting.
As I understand it, yes. The recipes for the original legendaries are not changing in any way, we are just gaining an extra way to aquire the precursor.
The original mini Rytlock is still available through the digital deluxe core game upgrade in the gem store. While no-one can say for sure, that suggests to me that the new mini would continue to be available after launch in the same way.
There will be no WvW active during HoT launch. The are ending present matches on Thursday morning and not beginning the next week’s reset till Saturday night.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-and-the-Heart-of-Thorns-Release/first
That’s not quite right, read the dev post I linked above. A new match will start with the new borderlands map at launch on Friday morning, and complete at the new reset time (which a different post has stated will be saturday lunchtime, not saturday night).
Edit: And a more recent post again confirming the new reset time is back to Saturday evening, 24 hours later than the current reset. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-and-the-Heart-of-Thorns-Release/page/13#post5617694

It’ll be 7am UTC but, due to daylight savings, we in the UK are currently UTC+1 which maintains the 8 hour time difference between our time and PST. At some point in the near future I assume PST will go back to being UTC-8 just as the UK goes back to being regular old UTC.
Yep, that’ll be the weekend after HoT release, specifically the morning after Halloween.
In the UK it’ll be the weekend HoT launches – it’s always the last Sunday in October, which this year is the 25th.
Yes it does, according to this dev post: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-and-the-Heart-of-Thorns-Release/5609875:
Here’s what the Heart of Thorns release will look like for WvW:
- On the morning of Thursday, October 22nd, WvW will be terminating without completing or updating Glicko ratings as normal. This will be the end of the classic (“Alpine”) Borderlands maps for the foreseeable future.
- On entering the build with the new Heart of Thorns content, all of your spent WvW Ability points will be refunded. Recall these can be spent differently per character, and spending them on one character doesn’t spend them on any others.
- WvW’s reset time will be changed to be 24 hours later in NA and EU. It will now occur on Saturdays instead of Fridays.
- At the moment Heart of Thorns content becomes available, WvW will prepare its maps. Including the new Desert Borderlands map. There’s no guarantee the matchups from earlier in the week will be the same as the new ones (or that they’ll be different).
- The new round will run until the new reset times on Saturday, then end and update Glicko ratings. After it comes up again, WvW will be running as “normal” except for the changed reset times and the new Desert Borderlands.
