Capturing a tower to be able to access it via gliding has absolutely zero to do with redoing hearts in PvE. zero…

Because you shouldn’t be able to fly into the enemy’s tower or keep. Plain and simple. It would eliminate siege.
I know there would be some people happy with no siege, but what you are describing is exactly what many of us that were concerned with adding gliding feared, but it is working like we hoped.

Get rid of territories, it’s annoying having to capture an area in order to glide in it.
And in instances where one owns red keep on EB and someone else owns Orgres, an invisible wall appears, like all those you added to PvE maps, to prevent people from red keep flying in.
And if you own both, the wall is disabled and you can fly in.

Lots of people probably don’t see it yet, but gliding is causing more problems than it solves. Actually, it really doesn’t solve anything to begin with. Not having gliding wasn’t even hindering anything. After they add it, then the problems start happening.
You usually have good suggestions re:WvW. I also know you understand the gameplay as well.

Gliding makes Windfall from Air Keep Shrines obsolete
If you can glide you don’t need windfall which is one of the major bonuses of capping the air keep shrines when owning the keep.
If gliding is staying then windfall needs changing to something usefull.
I disagree. The damage from windfall is still good. I think it could add a dimension with gliding bring a group over a Zerg, and dropping on them for damage.
no more Ticket cap , i just got 14 tickets on the first Diamond Chest after finishing diamond tier.

you needed under 1 week and you had maxed out your stats, from here it was simply just enjoy yourself with the gameplay you like.
returning to the game all i see is “Grind this, then GRind This, then GRInd this, now GRINd this, GRIIIIIND or you will be suboptimal stats wise”…it is truly a horrific change imho :/
edit: not only that, after you done all, or some, of the grinding you now need to run through DPS meters, and use addon tools etc. BS to maximize the numbers so you can perform at the efficiency needed to be “allowed” to join all the content…
which is only made worse by how horrificly badly the different builds are balanced up against each other (some are a complete joke and don’t stand a chance in hell vs. others which are ridiculessly strong and running anything else is a joke)
So… this is required for good gameplay? The back piece is a skin. It’s faster and easier within WvW to get multiple ascended back pieces, and the legendary is a skin.
The legendary armor is a lot more money than the ascended armor.
This is only Grindy if you choose it.
You still are choosing to play it or not. So… to get the skin, grind it. It isn’t needed so… no grind required.
Hi just want to say that I understand why its 1095 tickets for the legendary war insight because there should be a time gate. However the choice of time gate is wrong it should be 100 tickets than 2k badges and 500 heroics for 1 insight. In PVE raids legendary insight were available early and raiders could stack them to the point when the legendary armor became available to craft they did. If the WvW version happened then legendary insights would have started dropping from bosses after the armor became available.
True, but WvW’ers were able to ‘stack ranks’ which helped us also. I wouldn’t mind getting them faster, but is NA perfectly OK with the time gate. I know I will play the mode long enough to get them.

But people new to the mode will still need to spend over 40 hours a week to max tickets. If those of us who are higher rank need a couple of days off for family/school/vacation/work, then we can still max them.

So, real talk, not being contrary for contrarys sake. I feel that wvw has their own version being the t3 armor which looks awesome (same quality as raid imho just different). I think it’s very cool that each game mode has their own unique look to legendary armor (sadly not 100% unique for PvP but it probably should have it’s own as well). Recycling skins seems lazy, I think differentiating the skins by game mode is an awesome idea and will lead to more people wanting to engage in that gameplay. I am very happy that everyone has access to the qol that legendary armor gives. Especially in wvw, I know I’ve used it a lot. That’s my honest answer as to why I hold the opinion I have.

Higher ranks get a discount in terms of time. No, it’s not ideal, but it is something.
I have to admit that last night in WvW chat I never saw anyone criticising the gliding – everyone seemed to be having fun. Seemed I was the only misery guts.
I died half a dozen times or more in the mass fights near NWT – yet it seemed a drunken shambles to me – I was sober – perhaps a drink might have helped me.
Just a culture shock for me – WvW so very different to a few days ago when I knew the distances to places, shortcuts, how long to get there, and whether I might make it in time.
It never occurred to me that a lot of PvE’rs would come – not sure how that will affect the queues but hope they have lots and lots of fun, and they come to stay.
Think I’ll give it a few days rest, see how things settle down then go in again – try to readjust – try to figure out new tactics, try to have fun
Really good insights actually. I agree, I am not sure if in two weeks I will like it or not, but yeah, it’s different.
They need to tweak the exploits, to Prevent captures that shouldn’t be able to happen.
The change in tactics needed is the most interesting part to me. Routes of escape change which makes both attackers and defenders consider different tactics.
I think if they make the exploit tweaks, we will be able to evaluate it over the next couple of weeks.
with these costs WvW should get the same skin as PVE

Oh.. full disclosure? I was on the first chest in diamond when the patch hit, so I ‘lost out’ on over 100 tickets.
Please don’t lump us all together. I care about rewards. Every day I do the Auric Basin event cuz I get 6 gold out of it. Do you know what I did yesterday, I did extra events to get the gold back that I missed due to not being able to play on Tuesday. I might be a WvW player but I care about rewards, not all of us don’t care about rewards.
And as for the “QQ’ing” I feel the right to do so. For the first time I try to get Diamond (I always get Platinum) and instead of getting 175 tickets I got 155 tickets. I don’t give a crap about the other 190 tickets what I want is my missing 20 tickets. They made a mistake and not me. They fixed the missing ticket cap that hardly anyone wanted to get fixed because it was “unintended” but giving us our missing tickets heeeeeelllllll nooooo. Why? Because losing tickets is “intended”? So yeah I’ll QQ all I want. They need to fix that cuz I’m pretty sure it was “unintended” just like missing the ticket cap which they did fix as fast as possible.

The part I didn’t detail here is that there was/is no good time for EVERYONE to make this change. Match change time would infuriate reset players, mid week would/did cost people tickets.

In some ways, one tweak might include catas being able to damage Friendly kitteno, if a Catania placed against the wall, it’s own splash damage would damage the cats itself..

If the ques bother you, transfer to a smaller server. Go tier 4.
Many people wanted increased activity. If you don’t, then try transferring down.
And btw: I understand EOTM has no ques, no pips, and no gliding. Of course, there is also likely little activity but you never know.
Gliding needs to get disabled the moment players enter combat. Period. There is no way around it if it’s to stay in WvW.
Here is an example how bad it currently is. Our group of 20 people fights a similarly large group north of SM in EB. We manage to push them towards that cliff near the red keep sentry and instead of actually being rewarded for playing smart the whole enemy group just… glides away o.O They receive no damage because of that glide evade trait and guess how many people aside from braindead pew-pew longbow rangers have access to a decent ranged CC that also works against targets in the air? We also can’t glide after them cause, you know, enemy territory…
As the OP already said I have nothing against gliding while being out of combat but entering combat should automatically disable it. ANet could add an additional (rank 6) ability to the War gliding line which would for example cost 35 ability points and work similarly like regular fall reduction traits (Death from above, Decent into Maddness etc.)
Now, that other group would say they played you smartly into that cliff as an available escape. Maybe flanking them and cutting off their obvious retreat is another way to view it. Tactics need to change. Just because a tactic wasn’t available before, doesn’t mean you can’t adapt to it.
Or maybe add a couple brain dead pew pew rangers and allow them in squad?
Either way, this needs time to evaluate pros and cons.
First of all I think you are an outlier as far as how fast you can get GoB. But regardless, you are still talking a component of a legendary weapon for a home instance cat. That’s way too much. Think of the gold value of that gift of battle.
So, I get the time investment angle as time is money etc.. but I have absolutely no problem with some items in game being harder to get that others.
Claws, fangs, bones, etc etc are also components of legendaries as well.
If it is too much, don’t get it.

Agreed. I imagine that is why they listed it as a test. Hopefully they tweak it to limit the abuse potential.

No. But the fear of them attracting Dogmander is real..
If you have to keep the cap why not at least raise it some? 500 a week is fairly reasonable, allows dedicated players to earn their rewards significantly quicker while still mainly rewarding veteran players (since you’ll need those bonus pips to have a chance at reaching anything close to 500 tickets in reasonable playtimes), and it also doesn’t trivialize it and allow you to earn it in just a few weeks. Its less than twice as fast as currently, but still rewards people who put extra time into WvW
They have raised it from 175 to 360 ish. I think that is more that fair. It’s more than double what it was. And 500 would be three times as much as previous. (Or close)

Whose bright idea was it to implement the chest change in the middle of the week instead of at reset night? And how will this be “fixed”? Just let it remain unfair all across the board?

It’s still an extra week+ of tickets for some… and nothing for others.
It’s a terrible decision to implement a change like this mid week and that needs to be called out, if nothing else with the hopes that NEXT time they will THINK before doing something like this again.
And that would be great, but patches are always on tuesdays. Everyone knows this. And when they got fixed an issue on a Friday, people RAGED.
My point is, there IS no good time.
I just don’t think this is worth the vitriol some are dishing out. I was into diamond chest when this hit, so yeah, I am potentially missing out on upwards of 150 tickets. But it’s not worth my frustration.

The zones make the maps look U*G*L*E*E. If you want to inhibit gliding in zones not ‘owned’ by your map, then a warning message similar to PvE areas is sufficient (for those ignoring them, well …. crashing is always an option). At least there’s no ‘death from above’ in the form of enemy players dropping in on you.
It’s a map. I don’t get where people are complaining about the ‘look’ of the mini map when it just provides information. And quite frankly, the territory lines make it faster and more concise to see who owns what.

Actually, they seem to have gotten gliding right. Now, there are a couple of points that are trouble, and they likely will be fixed soon.
Not saying that gliding SHOULD be in WvW or not, as that is something that will likely need a few days/ a week or two to truly see its effect, but the actual addition seems to have been fairly well integrated.
Tickets have been buffed, and I agree with the time gate. If you attain the new max of 365 within the week and choose to do something else, then so be it. I personally attain the max mid week, and still play as I enjoy WvW.
Also, the second part of the ticket buff is that you get them with each chest, so partial tier accomplishment gives tickets.
Truly, two positive changes, and one’dont know yet’ change.
Revive and resurrect (downs vs dead) are both core mechanics of GW2.
They both need to stay.
Now…. making them slower would not be a bad thing either.
Each class has tools to use, and yes, the advantage goes to the larger groups.
But honestly, it’s easier today when rally only works on a one to one basis instead of 5 to 1 like it did originally.

Yeah, I can’t see where these would be abused necessarily, but the traps one, really wouldn’t be felt much either.
Siege refreshing will get two opposite reactions on here, one by people who see the value of siege, and the other that feel siege is borderline cancer..
IF siege refreshing was used as a participation addition, then something like you suggested would be good. It doesn’t seem like it’s too much.
And just before that answer pops again : no, you can’t wait in obsidian sanctum, there’s no participation in OS.

You cannot see your participation in obsidian Sanctum and you cannot EARN New participation in the Sanctum.
But you absolutely CAN tick it down and gain the remaining rewards while waiting there. I do it every night. Usually, if you have just taken a camp, and you have tier 6 you can get an additional 3 ticks AT LEAST while waiting.
Now, you need to auto run into a wall and auto cast a skill (heal works great) so that you aren’t auto kicked too quickly.
This way you don’t take up a slot.
It’s clunky, but it is effective.
So I’m skimming through the Patch Notes and come across this change;
WvW Skirmish Claim Tickets have been reduced in the last chest of each division but have been added to every chest.
My immediate thought is “Yay! Nice change!” but then I start thinking about it;
How and, probably more importantly, when, will this be implemented?
I am hoping it will be on Friday during the weekly matchup changes and the anticipated reset of the chests, since otherwise this could be problematic for some players and unfairly beneficial for others.
What happens if I already finished Diamond? Does the chests reset to Wood and allow me to obtain them all again? 350 tickets for those that “nolifed” the first days and didn’t have jobs to go to in the morning? Less tickets to those that were counting on having until Friday as usual and therefore didn’t go “all in” the first few days?
If the chests do not reset, what if I finished 5/6 Mithril? Does that mean I now “forfeit” the tickets from the first 5 Mithril chests and only get the “reduced” ammount from the 6th Mithril chest?
Hopefully you already thought about all this and either set a cap so people still can’t gain more than 175 tickets this week, or delay the changes to the chests until next reset.
I hear you, as I am on the first diamond chest..
But really.. I am not going to begrudge people who happen to be starting this out in.. let’s say bronze… I am pleased that with the change, it will not take 2 years to get both the back pack and a set of legendary armor.

Not sure that it is good getting buffed to 355 for the track, but I really like the ‘each box’ feature, and I am not really against more tickets.
This was much needed. I was seriously getting burned out getting enough pips to get through Diamond each week.
I wasn’t, but am gold rank, so that helped.
I am glad they didn’t drop the other levels as some buff for experience is good.
And if it helps newer people to the mode play somewhat more, than it’s good.
Of course, there will be people on both sides that complain….. Like everything.
It would appear that Pip acquisition has received a buff: base for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each tick upped to 5, 4, and 3 respectively. (from 3,2,1 before)
So, helps out new and old players some.
Or, make OS guestable so that any guild, regardless of server, or tier, could join and participate. The size of its arena is good.
Of course, controlling the trolls is another problem… but there are ways to do that with the groups there.
It doesn’t take away from the WvW experience of others, draws back in a solid group of veterans that won’t JUST GvG, and it gives others something to choose to work towards.
Unless they change the currency unlock for the expansion. Could be something new, or delay the use of heroics for a month or two.
Or… as we just had a memory of battle gobbler released, use memories of battle!!
But yeah, the threshold likely will be the same and use heroics.
I would think moving to a server matched against a large SEA or OCX guild pop would be preferable. That way there is someone to fight.
