Nice. Yeah, some people will find a way to game any system. I think sometimes they spend more time dreaming up a way around the system, that if they put that time into actual play time, they would do better.

As far as the pop cap, I think they changed the threshold drastically, which is why worlds haven’t opened up even after the exudes of the PvE peeps who tried it out. I dont think we’ll see BG open for months. And some of the others, like TV and other low pop servers are just on that edge.

I think they are trying to force people to spread out.

Don’t fret, if it is as bad you you say, you will likely become a linked server. And on of the guest servers will unlink. Then you get the pleasure of being liked to random worlds.

And… speaking of anti Zerg play: if 10 people had stayed in the t-3 tower, and the rest of their players had spread out among the other tiered towers/keeps, then the offensive Zerg would have struggled to take the tower. 1vzerg is never supposed to win.

But people won’t protect their towers that way, because either they have a Zerg k-training or people don’t want to be left out from fights.

New players can only pick open servers. With the upcoming expansion, it would likely lead to new players. Those will go to the servers who are not full, likely starting with the very high, then high until they fill. Of course that stinks for the servers who sit in the ‘just full’ category which from the OP would include a server like HoD, but like MaS did before, they could moVe again.

And run the risk of missing guildies.

Which they would run the risk of with blowing it up.

Like others will say, forced repopulation will split up guilds and friends. I offer an alternative idea. for those servers with highly active wvw populations, force them to contend with more than one match at a time. This could be accomplished by intelligently reviewing players’ normal wvw active periods as well as guild memberships, then selecting which match each player will be assigned to for that week. It could also be done at semi-randomly, while still working to keep guilds intact. It could also be left up to players to choose which match to participate in (or which they would prefer) for that week, but as we’ve seen, players tend to be selfish and that may not work very well. At any rate, I would like for the devs to attempt something other what has been tried recently.

By blowing all up, you don’t have to force them on any servers. You are just simply forcing them to choose a new server. They can still liaise with each others on the new servers to join. The guilds can do that. The pugs not in any wvw guild can choose random servers. It will balance out if put in the proper systems.

you are correct, it wouldn’t force them to a server, but if your guild isn’t all on when it happens, likely they won’t be together.

Populations weren’t meant to be balanced.

I think that is the obvious fact that no one wants to admit from this whole system.

We have heard it from people in smaller pop servers that do not like to be held in que.

I don’t want a crapshoot to get into the same server as my guild. And if you tell me that guilds would get priority to go together, that is inappropriate also.

They have likely established a new population cap, which is why a T4 server is locked.

It will gradually start to even out.

But blowing them up, with no ties to the people you have played with for years is not a solution.. It’s a creator of more problems.

We receive bullying from big servers on a daily basis, they come, they cata, they take, today its getting ridiculous.

We have a T3 langor tower, fully sieged with tactivators, the tower melted from at least 8 guild catapults and several shield generators. (could have been 10, I couldn’t get the exact numbers but there were way more than what they usually drop)

How can this be a balanced and fair fight when the richest server that can buy an obscene amout of sieges and use it to bully smaller server everyday.

I suggest there to have some kind of Zerg to Siege ratio control, big zerg can only drop x number of siege etc*, just come up with a good solution, arenanet, its ridiculous that you allow players on small servers to get bully until they dont even feel like going to play in WvW anymore. I stood in a fully sieged up tower and are unable to do anything. I jumped into the mob to deploy a siege disabler, PRACTICALLY STANDING INSIDE the sheild bubble next to the catapult , deploy it, and didn’t work, because they have shiled. HOW CAN THEY SHIELD IT WHEN I AM STANDING INSIDE THE SHIELD? Unless if I am standing on top of the wall to deply the disabler, then I have no complain, but I am there, next to the catapult, how do you explain the shiled …. its my only defence to slow down the attack until help arrive, you just take away all enjoyment from me who have been playing guild wars for more than10 years. At the end the enemy were all laughing too, because I stupidly jumped into a mob to deploy a siege disabler and failed, thinking it would work, all because you don’t balance your game.

This is the next suggestion, if someone jumps into the shield bubble and are standing next to the siege to drop the disabler, no matter what type of shield they have, it should be activated if they dont die first.

But a small Zerg can drop more siege? Find the ideal balance between supply and siege… 10 people can have 5 catas.. and actually a sixth. All guilds. Would that have changed the outcome?

Should only 2 catas be the cap?

Or two golems?
Where is the line?

There are siege caps, which are rarely met by attacking forces. So you had no shield gens? And no one to assist?

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to just keep going on the way we’ve been for years now. You know that definition of ‘insanity’, right? Well, that’s where we get to every time. Oh no… don’t change anything. Don’t try for something dramatically different, cause… why? Because we are afraid it might be too different? We’re afraid it might get implemented with some problems?

Look around you…. what is so worth saving at this point that it doesn’t make sense to just toss it all up in the air and try for some radical, earth shaking change?

Just look at the amount of excitement that was generated by adding some new rewards and a backpiece. Now, imagine if we could re-invent our worlds, or how our worlds interact, just as Yuffi has done above?

And, what if we just threw out all the server names and created all new worlds. No ‘history’, no ‘baggage’, no clinging to the tired, dead corpses of our original servers.

If we’re going to go a different path, let’s just get started on it. Just the idea of charting some new direction is exciting in itself. But this slow death by a thousand drips of tiny, incremental change is boring me to tears.

So, you are willing to have your guild split between 12 servers? I mean, then what keeps you from moving them back together thus creating the bandwagon again?

You are mentioning a change, but no significant solution for keeping the same problem from happening again?

Because not splitting everyone from each server equally over all of the new servers, or giving ‘guilds’ preference to being together (which has not been suggested by you but has been suggested before) would be unfair to those unaffiliated players that enjoy working with certain guilds.

Honestly server mergers would be more effective, combining servers with some degree of benefit to each other using Blackgate as the ‘true full’ level.

Either way, linking is a bad mix. Too many volatile situations exist.

So… forced moves, with a good chance people will be forced into servers that split up guilds?

Your signature states you are the leader of MaS. You recently (within 6 months) left BG and I applaud you for seeking out other options. But you did it by choice, and the guild mates you took went willingly.

I would not be in favor of blowing up servers and forcing moves.

Locking the hosts doesn’t say each of the locked servers have the same Population. It likely means they have reset what full means. And it will slowly push people to the linked servers. It will slowly spread out populations.

Likely, HoD sits on that fence. It doesn’t mean that Anet views them the same. Just that they want new players to go to other servers.

We have yelled for population balance. It will come slowly this way. Blowing it up will lead to more bandwagonning.

It is significantly harder to keep participation (especially on guarded map). If you don’t have enough time to solo camp before group that protects it nukes you, you don’t have enough time to go to another camp, period. Getting to the tower barely possible (and mostly not possible on the desert map).

I guess “true roamers” don’t care — they are there to stomp noobs and cut off individuals from the tail of the zerg, not to get some pips and whatnot.

Was able to two man a tower with a superior Cata yesterday, which means a return to the camp, and time to kill the lord. Didn’t see participation drop. No, we didn’t get zerged down which was a risk, but that was in the desert BL. Distances wasn’t an issue then.

And as you noted ‘true roamers’ stomping ‘noobs’ gives them significant participation. So, they are getting PiPs too.

The biggest issue to me are scouts that aren’t flipping anything.

I think picking a corner in any map and tagging things is their best option, unless there was a way to give participation for some of their tasks. Which would be hard to do without it being abused heavily.

Commanders will need to help the good ones out by sharing for now. So, as a scout, try to be vocal and helpful. Hopefully people will get you shared Participation

Followed a commander all night, today, a single brawl put me at tier 4, after that, roaming with a zerg, with many pauses, building siege, etc, never had the decay timer starting. Inthink people are still overreacting, as long as you normally run from target to target without dinner breaks you wont see the timer at all, let alone jts decay

So you’re saying try it before you judge it???? Heresy!

But seriously, maybe there is a bug. If you think there is one, put it in an email to A-net.

If it’s a bug, then maybe it can be fixed for you.

And if not, maybe it will help people understand the actual workings of the change.

All I can see this doing is encouraging bad behavior and discouraging WvW play. It certainly will drive away any casual players and discourage new players.

Anet encouraged bad behavior when they set up ridiculous weekly expectations. Of course people were going to “afk” for it.

Nerfing eotm, nerfing wxp merchants (can’t buy xp anymore), penalizing new players, now this. They came after the symptoms once again.

I don’t get how they encouraged people to AFK. Sorry, but those people were looking for the easy way.

When you are out manned no there is no way around it.

The surrounding towers can make it Swiss cheese.. That’s when you send in a couple of small groups. They can be extremely effective.

Removing siege is not hard. Even when you are the little guy.

the first problem can be solved giving the bonus in a stack form: every minute outnumbered you get one stack when points are awarded you get one point per stack
2ond can be reduced giving a form to cash out your participation, most players afk before leaving to get credited(pips and reward route) for their acumulated participation before decay

There is ALREADY a mechanic in place for afk’ing your participation. It’s called Obsidian Sanctum. You get pips, and your participation counts down. We don’t need another.

No one uses the Sanctum.

All of them are either standing at spawns of any keep or they are hiding in the map in places where they ‘most likely’ won’t be found.

I know. Announce it is team chat. Many don’t know it. The ones that do, and choose otherwise, aren’t just letting their participation tic down.

(ignoring the fact the OP is talking about warrior and thief, two of the strongest 1v1 classes)

Builds in WvW are not balanced for 1 vs 1. They are balanced only with groups. Even THAT is loose.

WvW is not designed for solo roaming as a while. Some classes are better at it than others.

If you are with three friendlies then… we’ll I won’t say it.

Bug: Unusable Guild Catapults [&AgJ/UgAA]

A friend sent me 2 guild catapult blueprints which looked odd because the blueprint icon is blue instead of gold. These blueprints are cursed! When I tried to deploy one, it went back into my inventory and I got returned to my weapon skills.

My friend said he bought them from a guild trader though IIRC and the in-game text says they take 40 supply to build, not 25 like the wiki says. Regardless of where he obtained them from, I guess these never got whatever the changes were to siege deployment.

I think they have some of those on the TP as well?

Obsidian Sanctum: Help your server

Currently we have people running their participation down by afk’ing in Spawn. (Others afk there too, but this isn’t about them)

When your run in WvW is done, or you get wife/spouse/parent/kid Aggro and need to leave the game, go to Obsidian Sanctum. You get pips and you don’t take up a spot on the map, clearing room for more active players. Only drawback is you don’t see your current participation level, but if you watch the skirmish track, you will see tick prediction.

When it shows zero, you’ve gone long enough. Or you power AFK and don’t worry about it.

Everyone wins.

Spies tactivator pullers 2nd account

Another way is block activators from free pull to only guild members pull. Then people will care more about what guild has claim over some objetive.

Then, there would be less cross guild tactics placed. I won’t put a tactic in, if some other guild is the one who controls it. Wouldn’t have a problem with several guilds, but some? Not so much.

Bail out option

Hello !

We’ve all seen people AFK-ing at spawn or elsewhere, gently waiting for their participation to go down to zero. Out of prime time, they’re mostly no harm, but when servers are queued, it can be troublesome. Even for them, having to wait 15-20 mn isn’t really enjoyable.

That’s why I’m suggesting a bail out option, allowing a player to instantly gain participation and pips he’d get, should he stay at spawn till it drops to 0, at the expense of an unability to go back to WvW for an equivalent amount of time.

It could be a button next to the “leave the mists” option in the UI. When clicked :

  • the sytem calculates the time needed to reach 0. It’s easy, considering the decay rates.
  • then it evaluates the number of ticks that’d happen in that time interval
  • then it checks the forseen participation at each of those ticks
  • it eventually adds all the appropriate pips and participation.

Once the player is out of the Mists, he can’t get back in for the same amount of time, with the “buttons not available”, just like the way it works when you’re in combat.

It’s been said before: go to obsidian sanctum. OS allows you to afk your participation down without taking up a space. No other fix is needed.

Changes to how the outnumbered bonus is acquired is coming in the next release.

Yaaay! Finally no more reasons not to bandwagon onto the instant-win servers for maximum pip farming! Let the gem cashflow roll in once again!

I’m sorry for being so cynical, but unless this change means increasing the outnumbered pip-bonus, this is probably a Bad Thing™. I mean, we already have massive bandwagoning to the winning servers because for one, winning is kinda enjoyable more than being spawncamped 90% of the time, and two, it makes pip-farming worlds easier, nevermind increasing your XP to farm pips even faster.

And since it is very easy to think of a commercial reason to not touch this bandwagoning problem since your company inherently wants people to transfer around, it’s difficult not to see this is yet another move to enable this imbalance.

Again, sorry for being cynical about this, but this seems… foreboding.

I see your frustration, but being in one of those ‘stacked servers’ we get the outnumbered buff often. Roaming with it is actually fun, as the more you can pull the enemies Zerg, the better you are doing. 3-4 person havocs can truly make another server miserable. On an outnumbered map.

Skirmish Tickets is a fulltime job

Couple of things

No one is being asked to complete the tracks or get the skins. People are choosing to do them. Their motivation is their own, but none the less, it is their choice.

No one is being penalized. You are losing nothing, nor having anything taken away from you by working on this at from any rank.

It takes two years of maxing the diamond chest to get ALL of the skins. But the skins offer you no advantage over not having the skins except to say: I have the skins.

Any grind, any frustration, any feeling of ‘penalty’ is self driven.

You grind it if you want it. Or don’t. No one is forcing you.

Skirmish Tickets is a fulltime job

If you want end game skins, and the new WvW Legendary is something you want, it becomes a fulltime job. Not saying I’m forced to do it against my will. But Anet set the bar high, and the tickets needed take a long time to farm.

I’ve been sober for a couple of months now, so I have more control over my in-game impulses. I’m just greedy and want more for less effort to get the skin.

fair enough if it was ONLY for the skins, which could also be done by ranking which you need rank 1800+ to be able to get the new statsed gear as well.

but this will for the majority of hardcore pvpers not be for the skins, wvw skins imho are quite ugly so doubt many do it for skin, but for the Ascended stats, which makes a big difference.
some one gave me a number of a 4% difference, but just from looking at the stats increase we are talking a 5,021% increase in all stats which effectively becomes a 10.042% difference in damage taken/given. that’s equal to an extra Top Trait slot, which can be pretty big, so you will want this.

If you play WvW for the enjoyment, the skins will come.

If the ascended stats move you, there are faster and (because of the time investment) cheaper ways to get ascended armor.

Neither argument justifies increasing the speed of acquisition.

I’ll state it for a second time: people need to give it 6 months. Let things die down, and then have Anet look at tickets and how they are acquired.

WvW is bugged

There’s possibility for as much as one more instance of this problem to happen per non-Obsidian Sanctum Mist War map, per tier in NA, if it happens before this Friday’s reset. If this Friday’s reset happens first, we should be in the clear until a permanent solution can be found.

Why is anet making OS multi instance? Is there a server with OS queued often?

It may be because people are going there to count down their pips? Without taking up map space. Maybe it’s creating more usage of OS?

PiP speed doesn't matter

Has anyone considered that people with low pips were not meant to max out every week? The system is clearly setup to retroactively reward players for the past several years of supporting wvw. If those veterans had just started when rewards came out like the people who are complaining of low pips, then they would be in the same boat.

The “hard to reach” hard-cap isn’t meant to be reached every week through casual play. But for those who supported the game mode through thick and thin, gg here is a bonus to pip acquisition.

I’m sorry if people cannot comprehend/accept this now, but in 2-5 years I’m sure you can appreciate what I just said.

While I mostly agree, most vets are arguing they are not in WvW for the rewards, but are quick to prevent anyone else from obtaining them, too. Kind of a double standard, no? Also, 2-5 years seems to be an unrealistic timeline. By then, we will either not be playing GW2 because GW3 is out, or the power creep in gear stats will have moved beyond Ascended, making the current rewards like getting a set of Exotic in today’s economy. I feel that some adjustment is in order to smooth out the graph I presented above to make it more linear. Should a new player have to struggle so much just t get the final wood chest? Should a committed Silver ranked player on BG be able to always easily get the last Diamond chest each week the same as a Mithril ranked player? See my chart above for how things go from exponentially difficult to very little difference beyond a certain point.

Lolwhat? Vets are not holding new players down… all the new players need to do is put some time into the game mode to get bronze in a month or 2 and silver in 6 months to a year.

We have been using ascended gear as max stat for 3-4 years, far longer than exotics were top stat.

The things to smooth out the gap already exist, win the skirmishes, get outnumbered buff, command and be “loyal” to a server. Charts with the difference between 1 and 7 pips are hilarious because they change radically when the other pips enter the picture.

Well, people have to have the skins to play the mode so it’s not fair and cruel…

laugh all you want, but Mag would be crying if this happened to them. It’s honestly not funny – a 5 year old MMO should not be having this issue, let alone still live with a bug like this.

We’d all rage. But it’s funny because it CAN happen. People are laughing about having an EBG all to themselves. Think about that…. it’s quite hilarious actually.

A five year old MMO is actually the exact thing to finally have a bug like this. With the steady and consistent updates, it’s surprising something worse hasn’t happened.

I mean… it’s score……

It’s PPT. And it’s giving the supposed only sever that states it hates PPT MORE PPT. It’s really funny in that context.

Please Fix Participation For Outnumbered Maps

Another terrible idea, that this forum is now full of. If you are on an outnumbered map then that will very likely mean that there is plenty of things you could cap, there is also multiple ways to leave spawn to go and do that, perhaps play a class that can get around more easily. The outnumbered buff is a reward for doing that, not for being terrible at the game.

It also means your enemies can afford to post a sentry or two at each objective and call for reinforcements to prevent you from taking said objective…being outnumbered makes things exponentially more difficult.

If you are alone on that map, and you can’t get a couple of people to run with you, then move maps. Most times the furthest place from your spawn is the most vulnerable. And if you ave three of you, it’s faster and quicker to take camps. But even if you don’t take the camp, killing an NPC gives you participation. Also allows you credit for the camp capture if someone caps it later.

Sentrys also give points, and yaks…

Look, I know I’ve been antagonistic in the past, but if you filter through, you will actually see helpful tips in here. Yes people are salty towards you. I don’t think you are surprised. But if you read through, there are no fewer than 4 tips that would help you if you choose to use them.

No problem, I’m used to this. Sadly I’m actually already fully aware of literary every helpful bit of advice that’s been posted on here. I already know you can wp instantly, I already know staying dead isn’t helping, I already know to play tanker builds or stay on the tag. Most of the post I make are because I am aware of most variables surrounding something, and I simply want a net to change it. I tend to not post on subjects I am not familiar with.

Either way, thx for being nice and not calling me a pve noob or whatever other random insult that’s out there.

But they shouldn’t fix this. Your dead. Release and get bags dropping around you.

Yes, when you are on the other side of the map it stinks which is why most suggest finding a WvW guild to run with. They help with more than you think. Including dying to Rez you if needed…

Reality is there was an expectation that new players would NOT max tickets. As they gain ranks, the pop acquisition becomes easier. THAT is how it was designed. Gain ranks. Pips go up.

And roll this into the other thread.

More posts about the same topic do not make them more correct.

This is being monitored and investigated.

There’s possibility for as much as one more instance of this problem to happen per non-Obsidian Sanctum Mist War map, per tier in NA, if it happens before this Friday’s reset. If this Friday’s reset happens first, we should be in the clear until a permanent solution can be found.

it does not matter at all how fast or slow you gain PiPs. you don’t even need to afk farm or hunt outnumbered maps.

whether i blow through to cap in a day or if it takes me a week to do it. i’ll still never get more than 175 tickets.

That is the diamond level, yes you got your tickets. Congrats. If that is all you are here for, then you are done ’till next week. If not, then continue to enjoy all of the diamond chest perks minus the tickets.

It’s kind of a genius system. Still get better rewards than we did, and you can gain ranks to make it faster in the future.

This can already be done informally.. and to me makes total sense. Why the 2 lower servers don’t team up against the bigger server is beyond me: More WxP, more Pips, more loot, more even fights.

In the case of the OP’s example of Mag, FA, and CD, why CD and FA don’t team up against Mag is beyond me. They are only shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t.

A(greed). Both words match this well. It’s a great idea, and it won’t happen because greed for bags. The jam is real. Of course, if they jammed the bigger server, they would help themselves both ways.
