Its too complex for viewers. That is the point everyone is making. And sadly I have to agree.
PVP is a great, fast paced game that forces you to make quick decisions and process a lot of information.
But spectators can’t digest all of that info.

Totally agree with the Pet suggestions.
But about the longbow…speaking from a PvP perspective, I don’t trait into Marks or Skirmishing.
I can’t, because I’ll die.
Traiting x/x/6/6/0 with zerk amulet gives way more damage and survivability than any sort of 6/6/x/x/x amulet combo.
My problem with the bow traits is I can’t find a reason to use them…

I thought the maths said that Power is better than Ferocity, and Ferocity is better than precision once your crit chance is above 50%.
So in this case, zerker > assassins.

Escaping is probably the only other thing I have been using it for, and it is definitely good for that.
I think the confusion aspect that fluffball mentions is probably something I have not considered. I know how annoying it is when someone does it to you (well) so I probably just have to remind myself that a well timed stealth is going to make them start to panic.

Keen to hear how other people use LB#3 in their rotation.
I am running glassbow in hotjoin and yoloq to what I feel is a fairly decent standard. However the one skill that I feel I am under-utilising is LB#3.
Where I have had limited success with it these two areas:
1. open with RF then stealth, use that time to get into melee range, switch to sword and pop qz
2. use LB#3 to get into position to drop a LB#5.
So how do other people use it?

Agree, I would take the dagger any day.
The poison+evade is so crucial against warriors. I also find the Axe 4 and 5 animations are both too slow to use effectively.
I also think if you’re using mainhand sword the damage will come from your aa, so save the offhand skills for staying alive.

The unparalleled archer bit is true, as a longbow ranger will crush a longbow warrior AT RANGE. But the pet class mechanic is completely useless. The pet really does not feature at all in high end builds.
I would say the defining characteristics of rangers are highest ranged DPS, and evade spamming. So in that respect they quite different.

The amulets aren’t the problem, its the lack of effective builds with said amulets.
Each class only has 1-2 viable builds, and those builds are obviously going to be optimal with 1 type of amulet.
This won’t change unless the devs can magically make 2/3/4 viable builds for every class.

IMO the burst skills should have at most a 15 second GLOBAL (across all burst abilities) cooldown on them. It’s enough time to where a miss is punishing, but not long enough for it to be completely unfair to them.
that would be acceptable if you make all burst skills instant cast, like steal. otherwise warriors would be the only class without a class mechanic.
Argument doesn’t fly because Rangers can be without their class mechanic for 40 seconds at a time, Thieves for 30 seconds, etc.
you misunderstood, i meant that unlike steal, which you can’t actively dodge, everyone would be able to dodge a warrior burst skill, since they are all extremely easy to dodge.
Except that eviscerate is not that easy to dodge when the a/sh war has either stunned you with sh#4 or bated out your dodges with their extremely had hitting auto.

well i said warrior has veiscerate wich is beeing used frequently, and even if it misses , adrenaline should be spent but it is not, then there still are killshots, 100 b, and few other stuff.
That is my biggest prob with war. They don’t get penalised for missing unlike every other class. It is extremely unfair.

I run very similar but with longbow.
Only difference is I run 2/0/6/6 with spider and malicious training. I also run hydromancy over geomancy on the weapon swap.
The damage really comes from the air+fire sigs so I can see how shortbow would be a better option. Will give it a go.

Hi there, new to guard.
Is something like this viable in pvp?
Idea is for celestial might stacking guard. You use staff first to stack might, switch to sword/torch for combat and pop a meditation for fury.
Might on crit for additional might stacks during the fight.
Any advice welcome.

I would have agreed with ragnar a few weeks ago but I have been playing zerk longbow exclusively since then and I now feel that it can more than hold its own. Longbow is a great weapon in the right hands.
I do think that fire+air sigil is a must though. The damage is not quite there without it.

The main things I would say is if you are going to fight in melee range then you need to make use of your evades, rangers have tonnes of them. Wait for the telegraphed moves and don’t waste them. It took me a while to get out of the habit of just spamming my skills (I still do it sometimes).
If you are using longbow then stay at range and make use of your stealth and knockback. Don’t feel like you have to fight on point if there is an engi and a bunch of turrets on there either. No point just jumping on and dying straight away. Clear it first.

Agree with FrouFrou, I would drop the horn for dagger since you’ll get your fury from SOTF anyway. That extra evade for a melee build is crucial.
I’ve tried a similar regen build with dolyak runes but I’ve since decided it doesn’t help much against the burst classes. In PvP I can dominate warriors/thieves with zerk longbow but I just can’t get it to work in pvp.
Power rangers just cant seem to get the same damage/survivability ratio in WvW.

The problem rangers are having is they ignore their pet and think that’s going to work out well for them.
Oidmetala you sound like someone who is so mad at the devs that you aren’t thinking clearly about your class.
What does a Ranger have that other classes do not?
- Evades on every melee weapon
- Steady or Spike Pet Damage
- 1500 Range DPS Weapon
- Variety of different tactics from pet choice
- Water field that can be blasted and leaped through easily on your own
- Passive extra stun break and condi removal
- The only active access to revealed debuff in the game
However you slice it, Ranger has plenty of tools to help their teammates win matches and if they build traits that improve their pet, they can have an easy damage source that can punish the hell out of people.
Also, people are wondering how you beat Warrior on side node. Lately I’ve been playing Zerker LB/GS Ranger with a lot of emphasis on the pet and I don’t see any way for a Hambow or even Axe/Sword Longbow to be able to keep a node and survive against you in a 1v1.
It’s similar to a Mesmer using GS/S – blow them up from range, make them waste cooldowns, or tempt them to fight off node and then decap it using CC like Illusionary Wave/Point Blank Shot to prevent them from stopping you.
Again, ignoring your pet in traits while playing Ranger is pretty self-defeating. Can’t blame Anet if you don’t play the class the way that it very obviously was designed to do.
I’ve been wrecking warriors too with zerk lb/sw/d and its a really good feeling.
I used to be too scared to go zerk but rangers have the utilities to survive.

I think the spinal blade pack is a nice touch. It hides the Koda skin as well.
I’m not convinced on the Koda shoulders as they clip too much so I might go with the Dark Templar ones.
The Air Filtration Device makes a good headpiece as well.
Now to find 60g for a chain sword skin :P

With regards to people leaving, if you are playing hotjoin(play now) then that will always happen. 1 because people just quickly jump in to try a build. 2 because they are waiting in the solo or team queue and their match has just started. And 3 because they don’t want to lose.
Tip, if you are out numbered 3 to 4 or 4 to 5 then just switch to spectator mode. This will force the auto balance and then you can just rejoin your old team after, and now you will have the greater numbers. Keeps the match balanced.

And all you have done is list the most efficient builds. Of course ppl are going to play what works best. That’s what a meta is.

And once more it all boils down to needing too much trait investment. We have decent stunbreakers.. Protect Me is awesome, LR is obviously awesome, QZ is questionable at times but other times is awesome…
The problem is to make traps, or signets, or sprits work we need to go 6 deep into traits, and once you committed nearly half your traits to making some utilities work then you really have to take at least 2 of those utilties to make that investment worth your while.. which is how we end up in a situation where builds dont have enough stunbreakers.. because we cant mix and match utilities like other classes can.
For example.. my mesmer runs 1 glamour, 1 manipulation and 1 clone utility. My thief have 1 deception, 1 signet and 1 trick. I’m not locked into certain utilities.. if I feel I need more stunbreakers I can make it happen.
When I am on my ranger on my sweet sweet trap builds (or spirit, or signet) and I have to have 2+ of those utilities.. well I am pretty much kittened if I want another stunbreaker. The wiggle room isnt there.
That is my point entirely.
@Fluffball – s/d ranger maybe, but they’re not likely to be traps or spirits…its traps and spirit builds that are suffering.

I honestly hope they go back to GW1 lore. The game’s lore has really not been very strong ever since their strong departures from the original lore. Scarlet and her alliances (with rather simplistic motives) aren’t nearly as menacing as the fanatical White Mantle, the evil Mursaat (who kill by simply looking at you), or the unstoppable hordes of titans (especially those creepy jungle titans). They’ve oversimplified a lot of the races. Norn are all now drunks that boast a lot for comic relief. Asura are all crazy inventors who have talking golems, and can solve any plot point with their techno-magic. And the role of the gods has completely been eliminated because the game is no longer human-focused. It’s also a shame how they’ve basically red-conned the importance of the Blood Stones, which may be one of the most important details about the Maguuma Jungle.
I want them to go back to basics. White Mantle, Mursaat, Blood Stones, in any order.
Maybe they’ll find the time to make Mordremoth feel like a real threat in the middle of that all.

My personal opinion, July 1 LS split into 2 parts, we are moving to maguuma and we gonna help Zephyrites in an unknown location.
- Zephyrites are on their way somewhere else “are attacked while traveling” unknown place, they are attacked by helping rebuild Lion Arch.
- Inquest and white mantle “new alliance”
No good english sorry.
My bet is that we will get the area west of Brisban Wildlands to start off with, then move south west into Maguuma.

Rangers have 5 utility lines and 4 stun breaks. 2 of those are in survival which seems overkill to me. Having one of them moved to spirits or traps would be great.

I feel like we need a stun break on F2, particularly for trap and spirit builds.
Spirits and traps are the only utility lines that don’t have a stun break. Meaning that if you want to go all in on these lines your only option is to used Shared Anguish which is unreliable, and on a long CD.
Or for spirits in particular, how about a stun break on Water Spirit? Make that thing actually worth taking. Crazy I know!
