hold on so people are whining because people can pay 10 REAL LIFE dollars for something they bought in game for make believe money?

LOL

Please don’t bait people. Your comment implies you think yourself above others and that we are complaining or whining about issue with no merit. I can assure you, it has plenty of merit.

Pretty sure that was the point of his troll post.

Do you think Scarlet killed the Spirit of Owl!?!

No, she killed the Elder Dragons and absorbed them. Because she’s actually the Dragonborn from Skyrim, and so awesome that she cannot be contained in a single game.

Waiting to see her do Fus Ro Dah :P

I think that’s when she says “Die” like 10 times in a row because it makes me want to not be anywhere near her in a flash.

This entire thread is proof positive that people want to be raging mad about anything and everything…
Must be the cool thing to be on the internet these days…

It’s an armor skin. One that if you don’t like you don’t have to buy. It doesn’t magically devalue the original at all.
Sure, anyone on any race can wear it (as long as they are light armor) so long as you don’t mind looking like a walking torch.
If a fire motif isn’t your thing though, and you want that armor, then guess what? You still have to be a female human light armor wearer and have the gold to spend.

The differences are obvious and nobody is going to mistake someone who bought their t3 human cultural light armor with someone who bought the skin off of the gem store.

Let’s take this to the extreme. Would it be totally okay if Anet decided to put a version of Twilight with a fiery hilt and put it in the gemstone for 1000gems? Because if I thought that the fiery hilt is silly, by your reasoning, even though they look similar, if I don’t like it and prefer the original twilight, I should shell out 3000g on the TP.

The point is that it undermines the hardwork of people have put into getting these armor (And I think it was even harder back at launch). Some people will just shrug it off, but a lot of here cares about that.

Using your example (which doesn’t really fit, and I’ll explain why in a moment) no of course that wouldn’t be okay. Because as someone else pointed out, that would be P2W. They would be selling an actual weapon with stats and everything.

This does not do that (and is why your example does not work.) This is not true armor with stats, it’s just a skin. One that you can put on anything. If they sold this in the gem store with Exotic level stats and attributes, then I would be as much up in arms as anyone else here, because then the game just became P2W.

Again, this devalues nothing. The /only/ thing the Flamekissed armor skins have over the t3 cultural armor is that anyone can wear it. And only then, after they put it on a real set of armor.
No one can pretend they got a real set of t3 cultural armor because of the differences are plainly obvious.

I highly doubt most people in T3 anything are running around with the default rare stats still on the skin.

If anything it’s a plus since you don’t have to shell out 40g to buy the 10 transmute stones.

Actually that’s exactly what it does. Devalue the time and effort people put into getting their t3 armor.

And breaks the lore behind cultural armor into tiny little pieces, stomps it into fine dust, and then finally sweeps it up and throws away in the trash, as well.

what lore is there really behind the armor? quite frankly no armors in the game have any real lore they are sort of just there………….

Have you even seen the sylvari armor? Most of it is either morphed plantlife or grows directly out of their bodies. Charr armor is designed perfectly to fit a charr and is covered in cultural motifs. Same for asura. They got away with this because every non cultural armor is just human armor stretched to fit the other races.

ive seen it but lets get real for a second, what story or LORE is there behind any of those pieces? by your logic a glowing grass skirt is passable as slyvari cultural armor. to me lore based armor is a set or pieces directly tied to a certain character or story item like brhams armor or roxxes quiver.

Lore isn’t just specific stories. It’s things that define in game cultures as well. It’s why the sylvari all use plants as clothing, tools and architecture and why you hardly ever see any charr spellcasters.

i see plenty of random charr npcs doing all manner of odd things, hell the flame legion has plenty of spell casters.

If you don’t know why that is then you don’t understand the lore enough to be arguing about it.

Would you be happy, if after 6 years of schooling you finally get your degree and then all of a sudden people can pay $10 to say they got the same level of education as you without putting in any effort or time?

Not sure if the analogy holds up since people could always wave their credit card at the armor in question.

even if you did buy it previously, it would have cost 4x the amount of gems it now costs. so now it’s “hey, you can get it instantly at 1/4 the price and we’ve update the look.”

So a year after its release the price went down ? Thats a pretty common phenomenon.

I personally do not think that cultural armor should have been put in the gemstore for use by other races, but the complaints about people being able to buy the armor rather than earn it in game for human characters doesn’t really have much merit IMO.

Just because the armor has been in game since launch doesn’t mean most people have had it since launch.

Suppose two days ago you just finished earning the gold to buy the T3 human set. You spend the 160 gold to buy it and transmute all 6 pieces and then two days later you log in to find the armor you just spent all that money, money that took a lot of effort to earn, suddenly became a waste as you can now just buy the same armor for about 60g with flame effects on top of it or just throw $10 at your screen.

It’s also doubly silly to expect stuff to get cheaper with time in an MMO since inflation does the exact opposite.

You guys are being quite childish here, If you have your cultural armor and you like it, be happy, you should not care if someone else is getting it for 1 silver a piece, good for them, I have my stuff, I enjoy it, that’s all that matters

Suppose you are in line to get coffee and your bill is $5 for a large. You pay and then the next guy pays $2.50 for the same large amount of coffee in a cup with a red lip. No rational human being is going to go “Welp, as long as I got my coffee I don’t care that he got the same thing at half the price for no reason.”

more like:

>I buy my coffee at 8am
>suddenly 12pm all coffee 50% off!
>oh man that totally devalues my morning coffee

you got your cultural armor 1st, and it was exclusive for a while and it still is to a certain degree, cause the difference between cultural and gem store is quite notorious

should there be a limit on what skins they should and shouldn’t re-use? of course!, but I think cultural armor is not hard enough to get to be so mad

You do realize that people could have bought their T3 this time yesterday right? We didn’t all get it months and months ago nor do we all live online to the point that we can just fart away 160gold on something that’s suddenly 60gold as hard as that might be to understand.

T3 should have been a Prereq

Substance E.4852

T3 armor has always been available with a swipe of a card. The main problem that people have is that it is no longer exclusive to just humans.

Considering it would be a very difficult proposition to make asura and charr armor work for other races and the fact that many sylvari armors grow out of your body none of these will likely be a omni skin any time soon. So, yes it sucks because humans don’t have an exclusive armor anymore but it sucks even more so because the other races will still have theirs for a good long time.

So in other words, good by GW2 come Q1 2014. Oh well, had a good run and some potential.

Guess you haven’t played any of the other betas. The grass isn’t always greener. You think this forum is dark, you should see the stuff being said about ESO.

I find it rather interesting that you say that. I’ve been in several of their betas, including the most recent one and it appears to me that the vast majority are saying good things about it. That is including in game and forums. It definitely isn’t my cup of tea, but can see why people like it.

I’d look at the reddit thread. It’s literally being torn apart. And I’m not the only one saying this. But believe what you like. .

The ESO reddit page appears to be greatly positive. I don’t even see a single negative post on the entire first page. People are talking about withdrawals and fiending for more. Completely off topic, I just wanted to point out that I don’t agree with the " You think this forum is dark, you should see the stuff being said about ESO."

If you want to see a really healthy forum, check Wildstar, i havent see a single bad comment for that game, and im pretty sure there are some out there but the fact that i havent see any it means that they are not many!

Have they even done a beta yet? I checked out the site and they still have 2 classes to unveil.

What would have been acceptable is if anet offered a firey aurora that you could purchase and add to your existing t3 armor.

essentially making the t3 armor a prereq to the upgraded look. Why they don’t consult me on these things, I’ll never know.

They hate money and awesome ideas.

Aura slot next to trinket slots? Aura we can craft for, and buy, and some that are redonk effects but have legendary level’s of crafting to make? Sounds like an awesome horizontal progression idea to me.

The Great MMO Migration?

Lol The next great MMO migration is going to be everyone leaving GW2 for the next new MMO that hits the market.

  • Elder Scrolls Online — Spring 2014
  • Wildstar — Spring 2014
  • Diablo 3 Expansion — Spring 2014
  • WoW Expansion — Winter 2014
  • EverQuest Next — release date unannounced

At this point they really need an expansion because the living story has not been good enough to draw people to the game based on word of mouth.

At this point I’m trying to find reasons to not just go back to EvE. Missile boats are probably still near useless in pvp but at least CCP respects their player base. That used to be something I thought I could say with certainty about anet…

Ugh god, is it bad that I was thinking exactly the same thing? I swore id never go back to eve strictly because im a pve player not a pvper, and CCP caters to PVP play. I lost a 1.5 billion dollar ship last year in a .9 system to griefers and swore id never play again.

I left after their whole “ya so we suddenly decided the Drake is super OP if you blob with 30+ of them so we’re gonna redo everything that makes it good. Hope that’s cool guys…”

Kid. It’s not whining, it’s proper understanding if what is being done incorrectly.

Sir, it is whining… what is so bad about having slightly reworked cultural armor available for all races? I mainly play Norn and let me tell you, I’d love to have those mid and heavy armor available for my human char… most cultural armor have really beautiful designs, it would be a shame to not use them more

Because people paid 160gold to buy and transmute their T3 armor and now you can just get it for ~60gold or $10.

If they are promoting because we aren’t convincing enough of our friends to play then that’s a very bad thing. You hardly ever see big promos for mmos unless they are putting out a big expansion or just came out.

If they put out better content I’d invite both my brothers to play. But as it is right now I’m not sure I’m even going to stick around.

Half my mmo playing friend stopped playing long ago for various reasons and the rest probably couldn’t be swayed by me because I really don’t know how much I can talk about the game before my criticism starts to leak in.

Arenanet made many statements/promises that never made it into the game. Remember when they said dyes would be account wide?

This qoute doesn’t mean anything. A level increase would be absolutely catastrophic. I would have to buy everything all over again and buy tons of transmutation stones to keep my skins (I have a lot of alts).

I know they need to make money, but there is such a thing as overkill.

That would keep you busy and logging in every day and more likely to spend gem’s…it’s a win win for them.

it’s all about the money, money, money…

I think NCSoft is pushing for higher sales, WildStar ditching b2p and going sub makes me think it isn’t as successful as it’s made out to be

If it’s all about money they should have added a sub fee to gw2. The level cap should NEVER be increased, it will be an absolute nightmare for people who have lots of alts.

There is nowhere near enough to do to justify a sub fee. Most games get away with it by taking a long time to reach max level and max stats/gear. In gw2 it takes a month to do all of that and then it’s grind for legendary, spvp, or WvW. None of the legendaries interest me enough to pay a fee to grind for and WvW queues would never justify a fee for me. That just leaves spvp when I could play capture point in TF2 for free with balanced classes…

[q]gotta get people to play the game somehow, right?[/q]

One does that by creating/maintaining a quality product. No amount of hype will change the product being hyped, it’s still as good/bad as it was when created.

I wouldn’t be too sure of that….

Just take a look at the supermarket. Kellog’s cornflakes is more expensive than Tescos cornflakes, it still sells. Are they different? Nope. If you put Tescos’ in a Kellog’s box, no one would notice.

Marketing can do wonders for your product.

Yes, proper marketing. Making your game into a walking joke is not proper marketing unless you are a fp2 browser game created for kids.

Not sayin what they did was good but, I don’t even know what is proper marketing these days.

A bit offtopic, ‘proper’ marketing in general seems to be putting a woman as naked as politically possible as a central part of your advert, then slapping as many gimmicks and slogans as you can in there for the sake of making people remember your advert.

Proper marketing is getting your target market to buy your product/service by appealing to them the best you can. A game like GW2 lives and dies by it’s item mall and adults with disposable income are the ones who drive it.

They have two targets with a thing like this people who play MMO’s but not GW2 and people who don’t play them at all. The mmo players aren’t interested in lame PR stunts. They are mmo players and know what’s out there already. They only care about whether GW2 is a better game than the one they are playing currently.

The other market is harder because you have to convince them to try something new. Making it seem corny isn’t exactly the best approach to get someone to try something new especially when the general public still has a negative image of people who play MMO’s as is. Want your game to appeal to non-gamers? Don’t make it look like something for dorky gamer nerds. It’s why game adverts always show attractive 20 somthings playing their FPS’s ect instead of the more likely profanity shouting 12 year old or Cheeto dust covered, underwear-clad gamer.

Increasing the level cap implies stat inflation. Which means that there will be tiers beyond ascended. Which also means GW2 isn’t any different than the others.

Not necessarily.
An increased level must not mean new tiers. It is fully possible to stay with the same tiers but with higher levels.

With what? Level 90 ascended/exo gear? Increasing level cap with no practical way to actually get stronger is pointless and the kind of appeal to the lowest common denominator stuff that Anet is supposed to be above.

So, drake has 25 might stacks, guaranteed crit, + 65% dmg? from SoW and sic em, + 30% dmg from 10 in skirmishing trait for the guaranteed crit, and the first skill it should use is tail swipe so you get like a 13kish tail swipe or something. Been awhile since i’ve done this build, did it like twice cause it leaves you as the ranger with nothing to survive.

How can’t you understand a couple of things?

Because the topic at hand, to which I was a part of, had nothing to do with these skins but with buying Legendaries, which, has always been possible.

Well, when they put legendary skins in the gem store for a fraction of the TP gold cost to gems conversion then your point will be valid to the overall tone of the actual thread.

If they made it a 1:1 ratio the current Eternity price would mean the skin would cost 74,468 Gems to purchase.

People have been able to gem a set of T3 since launch. They just haven’t been able to do it for 800gems/~60g since ever. That’s why people are kitten ed.

Why Scarlet again?

So what’s next?

Scarlet being responsible for the Searing of Ascalon? Or the Cataclysm of Orr? What about the Jade Wind?

OMG! Scarlet is Abbadon!

I believe that is the next LS after Wintersday.

lol ya everyone has the, what 1000+ dollars just lying around to gem themselves up a Legendary.

And again, that doesn’t matter?

How can’t you understand a couple of things? :
- Those that bought the t3 with “gems to gold” don’t give a kitten about this new armor and are not here complaining.
- Those that complain like me mostly do because now everyone, of every race, can have the human t3, for cheaper and with cooler (arguably) effects. Human t3 has become a second rate too expensive non exclusive skin and all the effort WE put into gettign it has gone to waste.

Oh I suspect any who gemed them selves a set of T3 are also rather kitten ed since it would have cost a significantly larger amount of money to get T3 than the flame armor with money bought gems.

Bro do you even math?

Gems cost 7.63 per 100 making an entire set of flame armor ~61.04G

A set of T3 cultural costs 119G + 400gems or 30.52G for the crystals to transmute it to armor that doesn’t have trash stats.

149.52 > 61.04

What does math have to do with what I said? I said you could buy a legendary already… math has nothing to do with a statement of fact.

Next up: Legendary weapon skins on the Gem Store for 2000 gems each. You know it’ll happen. And I’ll be waiting with my $25. Thank you for my Twilight, I’m so glad I didn’t waste all that time farming those mats/money when they were obviously just going to offer it for real money sometime.

Only half joking

Its already offered for real money…

  • Open TP
  • Buy gems
  • Convert gems to gold
  • Buy legendary

GvG will be implemented, just pay 1500 gems for a battle ticket and declaration of war with another guild. Also, don’t expect it to take place in open world because we wouldn’t want to get in the way of the LS.

Guild halls to follow sometime in early 2015, maybe…

Why Scarlet again?

Scarlet is a class of villain who once glimpsed perfection and thinks she can achieve it, even if it means undoing the universe destroying everything in the process. She’s basically became a tiny god where we can’t quite defeat her permanently but she enjoys the game too much to put us down permanently either.

Ya know who else are tiny god’s who love throwing minions at us and actually feel like a threat rather than an annoying relative who shows up and ruins everyone’s time by being an kitten ? The dragons…

If they do it for the human cultural armour then it should be for all cultural armours. Either open them up for everyone or not at all….

I am sorta with you on this. What they should do is remove the T3 armor vendors and just stick the SKINS into the store for 500 gems. No transmute stones needed.

No special particle effects, they can do that later for the 800 gems versions.

lol no. The whole set costs 120 gold. They should cost at least 1000+ for the set and if they do that those of us with the armor should get a set of it for free.

Signet of the Hunt active

in Ranger

Posted by: Substance E.4852

Substance E.4852

Am I really the only one that wants it to be a stun breaker? I mean, regardless of what the active is, if it were a stun breaker, it would be infinitely more useful to every single build because now it has a function outside of being just an increased movement speed passive.

It would help tremendously with skill bar compression to the point were it would even open up another utility slot that at this point is otherwise being used for Lightning Reflexes or Signet of Renewal. Especially on Trap/Spirit builds which generally need 2 utilities of their category to even be useful, often sacrificing the last slot for either a stun breaker or Signet of the Hunt, which now with a stun breaker added to SotH wouldn’t be necessary.

I’d rather they change our minor BM trait to “Break stun on pet swap” and get rid of the kitten one they gave us currently when they decided quickness on swap was all of a sudden “super leet!”.

And it will be that way till we get some proper AoE on our weapons.

A/A with dual fire sigils and a high crit chance is about the most fun you can have killing trash mobs on the ranger.
