If the devs are reading.

For the umpteeth time, it needs to cleanse all snares before rolling back, stun the target, and have the damage removed.

What’s wrong with the damage? I don’t see the reason of removing it.

Because it’s pointless. I’ve ran LR since beta and I’ve never ever killed anyone with it. No one in their right mind would use it as a source of damage nor is it a deterrent to the attacker.

It’s a defensive utility and I’d take a stun on target over damage any day.

The other problem is the devs take into account things like the (insignificant) damage packet when adding effects and tweaking timers for skills. Dropping it makes it more likely to get a good bonus effect that matters without having to suffer a longer cool down to get it.

Axe main and off hand

in Ranger

Substance E.4852

I like how the axe functions on ranger honestly. The damage it does is still meh though.
And i don’t see axe as a condition weapon at all. Shortbow covers it. Actually, Splitblade is pretty decent as a condition skill. 5 stacks of bleed is pretty good on a 6 sec cd.

If I had to, all I would do is add this to the Honed Axes trait: You deal more critical damage when wielding an axe in your main hand. (+10% critical damage) Ricochet has an additional 2 bounces and damage increases after every bounce. (resets after 5th bounce or when you kill a foe) All axe projectiles become guaranteed projectile finishers

When the axe bounces it does very good total damage and can even out damage the Sb (sure feels like it at least) if you are hitting two targets causing the axe to hit the first guy twice per throw.

It’s problem is that split blade does poor damage on a ranged skill that requires you to be in melee range to make maximum use of it and the main attack does nothing against a single target but incredibly weak damage making it a very poor weapon for 1on1 fights.

I only ever use it in pvp on a dire/settler setup for the snare and 5 bleeds. I’m pretty sure the offhand torch still does more damage though which is pretty sad.

New healing skill

in Ranger

Posted by: Substance E.4852

Substance E.4852

For those of you thinking this spirit has no burst, you are wrong. You are thinking about using this heal like other heals versus like a spirit. On the other hand, this heal works when you can set the spirit early in a fight and have your “oh kitten I need a heal” moment later. If you need your “oh kitten” heal without setting up, you are in trouble.

Most spirit rangers will keep the pet up almost all the time (those who trait unbounded) or will enter a fight by laying down all the spirits first. When you see the enemy you start getting the spirits ready.

Let me explain.

Provided you have laid down the spirit, the burst is pretty quick for the ranger and reasonable for the rest of the group.

Let me explain. The active ability has 2 heals.
1. The self heal for base 3800ish is extremely quick. 1 sec it seems.
2. The group heal of 2k (which can also heal the ranger and pet) is a separate animation which takes another second.
You activate the effect and both go off 1 after the other.

Remember, you still get the benefits of the passive as you activate the big heal.

The regen is more or less going to be 4050 over 60 seconds it just depends on how quickly you get it to retrigger after the 10 second icd. Totally passive and you really don’t have to worry about staying in a field etc. It is like a group signet of the wild. So I suspect that high heal rangers will get this to about 140/second effective healing.

That is pretty solid considering you still have the big heal which is about 75% of the initial heal value of HS and 80% of the same for the group regen. The DIFFERENCE is no one has to stay in the water field outside the activation. HS pulses so you need to stay in it longer. If you combo heals out of the water field, unquestionably HS does more healing.

WS is better when a group is spread out. You get regen even if pretty far away from the spirit. Allies can run to the spirit for a heal burst or run in with the spirit to give a heal burst versus having to sit in the spring for pulses.

So the ranger gets healed for 6k base roughly. Allies 2k. This can occur once every 25 seconds. The spirit lasts 60 seconds. So what a good ranger tends to do is lay it down, apply the heal upon the group taking initial pressure (e.g. “fill the tank”) and then just before it dies.

In the 45-60 second range of a fight (when most group fights get really hairy) you can have a huge burst of healing with nature’s vengeance.

Assume you first activated at second 20. At second kitten you can again activate the heal. 5-15 seconds later (at second 60) the spirit dies and you get another heal.

So within 15 seconds or so you can heal allies 4k and yourself 8k base.

It is only if you then have to cast another spirit while taking pressure that your burst is lost. You never ever ever want to play this heal as:

1. Cast
2. Immediately Heal.

It should always be.
1. Cast
2. Get regen only for a bit
3. Heal
4. Get one more heal in before spirit dies

You are not removing conditions so this spirit probably will be more of a back line type play.

What the ranger community want and how the devs see the ranger are two different things. I see you managed to do the math in HS and WS, i agree with what youre saying. The majority of rangers who want to/is playing rangers they see the class as a burst class that should do damage in a small amount of time like warrior or thief, how devs see the rangers is long term dps with on hit on skills. and AI control Which most of these Rangers hate.

I for one is ok with WS, I like the dps heal and its consistency given that the spirit lives in its full duration and its the most mobile heal so far in game, I also understand its downside as well for no condition and combo field. Its a matter of choice now on how you see the Ranger, Devs are pushing it as consistent dps with on hit, I think if you don’t see that it really is time to reroll a class or quit the game.

“Constant DPS” Isn’t a class role. The only build in the game that even remotely revolves around burst attacks to get anything done is the D/D thief and thieves regen initiative fast enough that a failed back stab attempt isn’t going to kill them or force them to kite for 20 or 30 seconds for another go around.

The only reason the Ranger feels like a “constant/sustained dps” class is because we have no real burst skills outside of Maul and have tons of kiting skills forcing us to chip away at an enemy rather than overwhelm them with damage like most other non-condition classes can.

It’s a boring way to play and forces us to adopt cheese bunker builds to even win at all.

It says a lot about the game that you can find bras, underboob and bikini armor for female characters but not simple pants. No, not the harem pants. Not the stocking “pants” with the frilly skirt. Just regular pants.

No frills, regular cut pants. Can’t get those. Though you can get a bizarre ballroom gown/bikini top armor “set” if you so choose.

You can in medium armor.

WVW DUELING

in Ranger

Posted by: Substance E.4852

Substance E.4852

Condition/regen is probably the strongest dueling build in the game.

BM/Regen With apothecary or Dire will not have enough regen nor condi removal to beat either a engi or necro in 1v1.

They also will not have the damage to take down a guardian within a reasonable timeframe.

Thieves are a hit and miss with this spec depending on their crits if they cnd/backstab and the overall skill level of them.

Thats half the classes isnt it? I dont see where this is one of the ‘strongest’.

A: Its the obvious choice for strongest Ranger dueling build. It may not be the strongest in the game but it’s the best we have.
B: A good regen/condition build player will eat a D/D thief alive and the dec 10th update means they can’t perma stealth anymore to cleanse conditions as easily as they used to.

WHAT doesn’t fit in the game ? Boobs ? Underboobs ? Revealing clothes ? A tiny bit of nudity ? What doesn’t fit in the game ?

Up to a certain level it is acceptable, sure.

The point being that this is offensive to certain people because it is too tacky is why it doesn’t fit in the game.

Objective opinion =/= fact and one person’s distaste for an armor design isn’t enough reason to alter it. Sorry you feel breasts (or 1/3ish of one) are distasteful but obviously the majority of the game doesn’t agree or isn’t bothered enough by it to demand a change.

Is it silly and impractical for combat? Yes, but it’s hardly “immoral” in a game where we literally kill people for sport and the regular map chat content already makes this an inappropriate game for children.

Heal is looking much better than originally thought, though I’m very concerned with things like the necro heal. I’m also in agreement with the above… that this whole patch, including this heal, is just an enormous push to drive us all into spirit builds. Done absolutely nothing to help with any other build.

Honestly, I found GW1 much more new player friendly than this game and a lot of it does stem from ambiguous or flat wrong tool tips. GW1 took a lot of design elements from MtG, or felt like it at least, and one of those was very clear, detailed skill descriptions that left no room for misunderstanding.

It sounds good on paper but how useful is this really going to be? You have to sacrifice all the armor, condition damage, and traits that come with wilderness to get this to work which means you are effectively pigeonholed into a power build with much less armor than necessary and no off hand or martial training to make our weapons work at peak efficiency.

Well its not a condi build,
And its by NO means a dueling build, it was made for wvw
And I’m using great sword
And my toughness comes from my gear
So I see no problem,

I just wanted to know if enlargement is going to be a stun breaker of if they will bring along some sort of cast time.

I don’t think traits usually have cast times. Most of the effects just trigger once the conditions are met.

If you really think healing spring is an acceptable counter to condition spam then you have never faced a good necro or engi before.

Only since you call me out on it.
http://gwshack.info/

Unfortunately, I don’t see you on either leader board.

Also:
Heal As One (Suggested Change*)
2 condi / 20s CD = .1 condi removed per second.
Healspring (Current)
6 condi / 30s CD = .2 condi removed per second.

AFAIK .2 > .1 so I don’t know where you pulled out the info that your “proposed” change would be better than the current healing spring.

Maybe you should try to learn what you are talking about before you go on calling other people out.

I suppose your enemy will just allow you to stand in it the whole duration. In those 30s for spring to recharge you have actually cleansed 4 conditions and are 10s away from 5 and 6 because Heal takes 20s to recharge.

And you’re quite right, wvw doesn’t have individual rank system. What it does have though is dire gear and food/crystals making people hit harder and survive longer.

They really never should have removed it in the first place. People will either buy it because they want it then or not at all. All it does is punish people who weren’t playing during the short window of time it was in the store.

Why anet hates money is a mystery we shall never fully solve.

Its called impulse buying or shopping. They release something for a limited time so you have to buy it RIGHT NOW or miss out. That way you get people who wouldn’t typically spend the money on the product buying it.

Things are in the store for more than long enough to allow people to decide if they really want it or not. Impulse buying comes from things like their black Friday deals going on right now that are for 24hours only, not from items in the store for 2 weeks or more.

This toon’s primary purpose is spirits and soon 2 spirits and nature’s voice.

That kinda precludes Beastmaster’s Might then – 3 stacks of might to self for 15 sec when activating a signet.

If you have decent crit chance, Sigil of Strength (30% chance of 10 sec might on crit) is not bad.

When you fire Rampage as One, each of your pet’s attacks give you a stack of might for 8 sec (12 sec with concentration training). I haven’t really looked into optimizing this, but the cats and moas seem to have the fastest attack rate.

Use marsh or river drake. If you hit more than 1 target with the breath attack you can get nearly 25might just from that.

If you really think healing spring is an acceptable counter to condition spam then you have never faced a good necro or engi before.

It’s not… but neither would any condition cleansed tied to a heal. We need a separate skill or trait to remove conditions. In another thread someone suggested attaching some condi cleanse to lightning reflexes and zephyr’s speed. Both of which would be good candidates. They could give Rangers a trait to reduce the duration of cripple and immobilize since you’d expect a master tracker to not be impeded in such a way.

Tons of options and the worst possible method would be another heal with more condi cleanse or transferring more condis to a pet.

Oh, no doubt. I’d forgive anet for all kinds of things if they gave us a trait that let us remove a condition on crit in the skirmishing line. The only reason I mentioned heal is because it hardly sees any use and seems far more likely that anet would buff something simply because it sees little use than for any other reason.

We also need at least 1 weapon skill that removes a condition, like the thief’s sword 2.
Hornet sting would be a good option since the stupid bee cloud animation delays the dodge by so much.

Heal as One should remove (not transfer) 2 conditions by default, and it should be turned into a shout so the shout reduction trait affects it, making it a 16 second cooldown with the trait.

Unless I’m mistaken, at this point, Heal as One is one of the most basic functioning heal skills in the game. No additional effects, long cast time, and not even that strong of a heal.

I believe it has the highest increase of health out of all the heals in the game but because it has an absurdly long cast time (just long enough for the enemy to do enough damage to negate any addition) and no effect means it really has no use when Trolls heals for a couple thousand health more over it’s duration and spring cleanses and creates a field.

I’ve tried messing with it recently but it just takes too long to cast to help in pvp but it does work pretty well in pve when you can kite before using it.

But what did you do with that build… you’re just there to soak AE. You didn’t spam AE stuns and knockdowns like a Warrior did. You didn’t spam heals like the Guardian. You didn’t spread condis like the Necro. You were just there doing nothing but soaking up some AE damage. This is what other people see and that is why the class has the reptuation that it does. The class doesn’t ‘do’ anything.

Very true, and this is that attitude that makes us seem “useless”. We are not “useless” we are “less useful then…” but that’s the attitude problem that we face to the extent that some people even believe that if your going to turn up as a ranger then don’t bother at all.

But numbers do matter, know your own class matters getting on voice comms and following instruction matters. On top that we can soft CC, Aoe Regen, Water field cleanse conditions, provide 150 precision (not so useful). But the problem is that wider WvW community (game in general) does not see any value in this.

Because many servers have queues during prime time. Every person that is in game is 1 or more that can’t play yet. If you are on a class that doesn’t do anything better than another you are effectively holding the zerg back by keeping another guardian, warrior, mesmer, necro, or ele from getting in.

I just choose to not give a kitten for the most part but this is where a big part of the “don’t you have another class you can play?” mentality comes from, at least on the higher pop servers.

A big part of this could be helped by anet actually trying to fix pets in wvw so things like stalker might or wolf fear could be seen as a positive instead of something that rarely works as intended.

December 10th Ranger changes

There’s one thing which I feel needs to be addressed. Spirits. Specifically, our elite spirit.

The radius of its passive ability is so small, you have to be practically standing on top of the spirit to receive any benefit from it. Its active ability takes far too long to cast to save someone in a pinch. And unless you’ve taken the Spirits Unbound trait, your nature spirit isn’t going to revive anyone unless they happen to get downed right on top of it.

The spirit does have some merits. 500 health per second for all affected allies is extremely powerful. The slow cast time of the active ability allows the ranger to revive him/herself with some savvy timing.

However, in comparison to the warrior’s battle standard, the spirit of nature falls short. The battle standard is ground targeted, and revives allies on summoning. The battle standard’s passive effect has an extremely wide radius, providing might, fury, and swiftness to nearby allies. The banner can be moved without traits, and cannot be killed by enemies.

I feel as though spirits should be made more in line with banners. All spirits should be ground targeted, and spirit passive effects should match the radius of banner passive effects, including the nature spirit. In addition, the nature spirit’s active effect should either be made instant, or have its cast time significantly reduced.

lol you must have missed their little stealth nerf. Now it has an automatic 1 second cool down on summon so you have to wait even longer to res downed allies now.

1500 range piercing Longbow Ranger is one of the few class that can go full berserker in a zerg battle and survive. However, it needs those Guardians and Warrior and other classes to keep the enemy zerg away from them. It also requires clever positioning and to not be over-confident.

It’s a bit like long range assassination. Pick a weak target and put it into downed state.

I think a small organised group of 3-5 Rangers that always focus on the same target would be very useful. They would down and kill any enemy they focused on together. It often takes downed/kills to tip the scales in a zerg vs zerg battle. It’s also bad for morale to see people in your zerg get downed. Killing the commander could be a complete disaster to the enemy zerg as well.

This presumes there are no thieves in the zerg because the second they see you on your LB they are going to know exactly what you build is and 2shot you without you even realizing it.

I get thieves going for me and bouncing right off my pvt/knights at the start of a clash all the time because foolish zerk rangers are so common they just assume we all run it.

This thread is mainly pointless for anything else than causing more hate.

Why not have a “List of Buffs” while at it? That way, we would actually be able to see the quantity of both.

Quantity doesn’t matter. What matters is the quality/impact. Have we gotten buffs? Sure, but almost none of them has had any real impact on build diversity or strength.

Our only strong pvp build is condition bunker and power builds still have next to no sustain making them nearly useless in small combat settings. They increased the strength of LB and Maul and the 1h sword is still our strongest weapon. We are going to get a huge buff to Bark skin but it will still hardly ever see play because 30wild means you take EB because Anet still hasn’t given us a viable alternative.

The Sb range and pet damage nerfs alone weakened the class by a lot and neither ever received any kind of compensation. Same with quickness on pet swap moved to gradmaster level for no real reason and replaced by a useless trait.

Now if only SoH was buffed to “Your next ability does 150% damage”

That would be so insanely op. Pop SoH, pop quickness, and then watch as rapid does a 24k feed…

You are never, ever going to rapid fire someone for 16k damage unless they are a single digit up lvl theif and you’re full glass.

These were in GW1. Arenanet made them – they know about them.
How many times must we ask for them?

Wow – can’t believe it’s been 2 pages and no heavy armor suggested – so much light and medium

OMG, obligatory DBZ Abridged quote

But yes, I realize that. The point I was raising is that the gear we currently have would be obsoleted, at least in theory, if they did raise the level cap.

Worst case scenario we would get more powerful infusions which I believe they hinted at when they announced ascended gear for the first time.

However, the backlash over pink gear has been so massive, any more tread milling is highly unlikely and the most we could hope for is new traits/skills.

We won’t even get more trait points because they can’t even handle the system as is. Letting people equip more traits would be a nightmare to deal with which is why they went from a game that had way too many skills to a game that has way too few.

If we ever get a lvl increase it will be mostly a cosmetic number to make people feel good but I can’t see us ever getting stronger stats. Not until the game really starts dying and they throw a Hail Mary and try to draw in the classic MMO folks to stay afloat.

In another direction: I read earlier in this mahoosive thread that when the new armor is up on the store again, it will be for a lower gem price. My question is, will the people who bought the armor for 800 gems and like it enough to keep it get reimbursed the gem difference?

Unless it had a red tag next to it don’t believe it.

Substance E, what is your point? The only reason levels are arbitrary in Guild Wars 2 is because of the scaling system that says “Level 80 characters are automatically rendered as helpless as level 4 to 15 characters the instant they step foot in any of the starter zones.” If it weren’t for that then if a Level 80 Character were to duel a level 4 character (assuming a Dueling system were installed into the game that didn’t utilize scaling), then the level 4 character would die in 1 hit just like in every other game.

EDIT: And actually, yes, there is an NPC that says “You aren’t high enough level for this area yet.” Caledon Forest, if you try to go into the Ogham Wilds section of the Forest before you hit level 6ish, you will hear an NPC yelling at you telling you that it is too dangerous.

Uh, my point was that we could be lvl 9000 and we wouldn’t curb stomp anything because all our enemies would also lvl 9000 and would take the time to kill as when we were lvl 9 which was your point in the post I quoted.

They are under no legal obligation to do so.

I am not sure that this is the case.

Consider that at the time some people bought gems specifically to get the armor ANet advertised that the gems could be used to acquire that armor.

If a company removes an advertised utility of a purchased product, gems in this case, then I think one could potentially make a solid legal case for a refund. Not that this would be likely to go to court of course.

Once more I am not a lawyer but
I bet the moment you tried taking them to court over 10 dollars they just ban your entire account. Why because at that point they have no interest in keeping you as a customer. They have ZERO obligation to continue to provide you the rental service you currently receive. At the end of the day it still won’t matter because you be out of your account so that 10 dollars would be gone your account would be gone and you have thousand’s of dollars worth of legal fee’s assuming you even got it to a court.

$10 gets you sent to small claims court where Anet will show up with a lawyer/s, show the judge a copy of the agreed upon EULA with documentation showing they refunded the gems bought with $10, and the whole thing will be over by lunch.

My only complaint is that at our current level cap (80) the PC and a group of friends (mostly Destinies Edge) are capable of taking down one of the Elder Dragons.

Add in an additional 20 to 40 levels, and I would argue that the Elder Dragons would be child’s play to us at that point. Whatever we fight once we hit level 100 to 120 would have to be so much more epic than the Elder Dragons, as to make it seem like Robin Hood and his Merry Men or Richard the Lion Heart and the Crusaders actually would have stood a chance if they went up against the strongest member of the Cthulu Mythos (Azathoth by my reckoning as far as raw power goes).

Levels are arbitrary though. It takes a lvl5 just as long to kill a lvl5 bandit as a lvl80 takes to kill a lvl80 undead warlock or w/e.

Levels are just in the game to say “you can’t go over there yet until you go over here and do A, B, and C first.”

To be honest I raged about the healing spring nerf but as I have used it since, often as my only cleanse, I definitely appreciate the faster pulses. It sucks to be less useful in a zerg, but they hardly ever acknowledged a ranger’s water field anyway.

They call water, I throw down spring at the commanders feet, and get “Thanks Ele’s, that was a well timed water field.”

There is a reason my Sylvari Ranger is going to be wearing Cultural Armor for it’s entire career. Almost all the other Medium Armor in the game looks like a bad attempt to make the Ranger into some kind of Punk or Goth type character.

Ranger’s aren’t supposed to look like this

They’re supposed to look like THIS

And the closest I can get to the latter in this game is the Sylvari Cultural Armor… and even that is a stretch.

By the way, the second image is from Robin Hood (2010). While perhaps not one of the most historically accurate portrayals of the Robin Hood Mythology, it does appear to at least get the costuming right. That is what Robin of Langley would have worn while in the wilderness in order to blend in with his surroundings.

And as any fan of history would know, Robin of Langley is the Trope Codifier of the Ranger Class.

Not enough buckles and/or zippers.

lol you are boycotting the store because they gave you an optional product you didn’t like? Be an adult and just don’t buy it. No need to act like a spoiled child who didn’t get their ideal toy for Christmas when they never even told their parents what it was in the first place.

lol you are responding to this post because they gave an opinion that is of no concern to you? Be an adult and just ignore it.

Might want to try that yourself first.
