Guardian is currently one of the toughest class to kill. High survivability. In the pvp forums, they already rated the Guardian as the third best class in the game.
Third best class because they are tough to kill. Let’s see what they give up for that toughness… oh it’s everything including the ability to kill any enemies. Great stuff!
I dunno, what’s the point of warrior burst damage if a guardian can block most all of it with almost no effort?
The point is that the Guardian stuff that is being destroyed is inherent to the class itself, whereas warriors aren’t forced to spec burst. The very concept of Guardians is being gutted so that other classes can spec certain ways – there’s no way to counter them whatsoever and that’s not right.
Worst patch ever. Massive, unnecessary guardian nerfs and they even had the cheek to say, “we’re happy with where the guardian is”. kittenters.
IMO, organising GvG is an indicator of awfulness. I prefer organic open world battles where allies and mobs from either side can swing the fight. That’s why we like three-way battles in the first place, right?
Also I would like to see any GH guild wipe us on their own, only CHvc have done so. We are always open to GvG.
Believe me when I say that we enjoyed it as much as you seem to have. This isn’t just a wipe, it’s a S&M wipe.
I’m looking forward to trying to squeeze some fun out of this now rotten lemon of a matchup. Either that or I’ll just not bother WvWing. Probably the latter. Enjoy your PvD, RoS bandwagoners.
LOL. i just read another thread, where they say boons will make you get hit harder…
And thieves will simply steal them.So, you can not play active defender (too long cds).
And all you have is Boons.. permanent.And now they want to make boons into a big Disadvantage.
As i said.. Why do they even call this class: Guardian.
Warriors are getting a grand master trait that grants them 3% extra damage per boon on you.
Thieves are getting an add on to flanking strike to steal one boon for one initiative and since flanking strike already costs 4 initiative it seems like the will be spending 5 initiative just to remove 2 of your boons. That’s assuming you get hit with both boon removing moves.
It’s only on on the sword dagger weapon set, how often do you die to a s/d thief? A s/d thief removing your boons will also struggle to have enough init to CnD and daze you often.It’s hardly the end of the world.
I actually HOPE they make this nerf happen.
Maybe they fix Sword skills for thieves also at the same time, to realy get it to work.as you said. how often do you die to a sword thief… buff it to give more viable weapon options for the thief.

I propose that the guardian be removed from the role of “boon heavy” melee class and reworked into another mechanic.
They said they wanted us to feel strong when we had boons up. Now I will just feel like an IDIOT when I have boons up.
Having other classes who can specifically destroy us is just fine, but we need a way to be a literal “guardian”. When we die so easily, the class becomes a joke:
“I’ll defend you! Ugh… Oh, I died faster than you would have anyway. GG”.
The guardian is going to require major rework after this Tuesday and I hope the developers have it down as a priority.
Why have a class that relies on boons then make it so other classes can completely destroy them? It seems rather strong.
Why put blocks in the game if they can be bypassed? Doesn’t it seem like, “Here, use this block but, haha not really!”?

There is an even simpler solution.
Place Vizunah in an empty tier all on its own – they won’t mind, they’d love an empty tier with just endless doors to beat on and no mean players to chase them back to their keeps and 3000 arrow carts.

I’m more than a little annoyed by this nerf-by-default. It’s what the community always asks for “don’t nerf us, buff everybody else”, but it’s still absolutely infuriating, particularly as we’ve been specifically victimised by the devs.
I will see how it plays out, but I already struggle in combat because I have to spec PVT due to;
- ridiculously low base HPs, and,
- not wanting to force my allies to waste time rezzing me constantly in WvW.
I expect to get facerolled constantly rather than being able to escape sometimes.
What’s the point in AEGIS if everything can bypass it?

I accept that you’re critical, but could you please give an explanation as to why you don’t like my proposed solution to the issue?
We have witnessed the ladder system even out to some degree since the end of free transfers. Ignoring the problems in the top and bottom tiers, the ladder started to work as intended, but a problem has occurred.
Now that the economy has given rise to the phenomenon of people feeling wealthier, whole-guild transfers are MUCH more viable and as we have seen recently, many guilds are moving to bandwagon servers, surfing them up the tiers and then transfering to another bandwagon server. This is a problem because when guilds move wholesale from one server to another the bias swings way out of whack on both the tier they leave and the tier they join – they then disrupt all the tiers they run through on their way up.
To address the bandwagon problem, Arenanet need to take action. It seems quite clear that financial disincentives are not enough and that Arenanet need to impose a limit to the number of transfers a player may make. I would suggest something like one transfer per six months.
TL;DR
- people are richer,
- transfers are effectively cheaper,
- bandwagoners are riding low-ranking servers up the ladder then repeating the feat,
- financial disincentive doesn’t work as intended,
- there should be a limit to transfers per year.

Get rid of downed state in WvW, period.
This will allow smaller mans to fight large groups.
If everything is equal, a larger group should take down a smaller group. Everyone complaining wants everything to be equal and balanced so that no advantage can be acquired whatsoever, but small groups should be able to defeat large groups given the same skill?

When defending, you need to spend a fortune on siege weapons to beat huge numbers of attackers. This is a flaw because
- if there are fewer people defending then the cost-of-siege-per-attendee is much higher for the defenders than for the attackers,
- the attackers can simply move to another gate/wall to avoid the siege-fire and then the defenders have to pay a fortune again,
- siege disappears after 30 minutes, so the whole “pay-to-defend” thing is really off-putting because there’s no point building siege on the off-chance that the enemy attack that specific gate/wall within that timespan.

Of all the tactics in WvW, the golem rush fails the most. It’s the last thing we should complain about.

Here you go. The devs made a special point of stating that they believed that (in a sPvP context) burning is viable. Whether this means torch or not, I am uncertain.

Bottom line is that you can’t get enough burning damage/duration AND bunkering in the same build to support the claim that you can do significant and constant burning on an opponent to kill them without significant risk to yourself, provided your opponent isn’t completely devoid of any PVP skills or PVP focused build. Even if you can (or your opponent is stupid enough) to burn constantly, the 320 DPS you get is not much when you consider other damage-specific builds make up for that with crits and higher power and STILL get some amount of burning as well.

They gave us a quickie because they’re too busy developing the next piece of one-off PvE content that will take 3 months to develop and everyone will be bored of after 3 weeks.
- I agree about feeling left behind to some degree, but look at the content they’ve added for PvE: it’s hardly as if stuff gets added all the time.
- The Culling fix wasn’t a quickie at all. They had to rewrite the way it worked from the ground up – a mammoth task.
- I concur with the idea of that replayable/persistent content is the best stuff to put in the game. Having said this, I did quite enjoy the Karka event, and it does stand as a landmark in the game’s evolving history. You have to bear in mind that the one-off content was planned and budgetted for during development and that the success of WvW is all a big surprise to Arenanet, which means the budget probably has to be changed especially for it.

I believe inflation is hitting hard at the moment. Anet seem to be desperately pumping out stuff through the gem market to get gold out of the system, but I know that I, for one, have hundreds of gold just sitting in my bank. I know, I know I should invest it, but I tried that before and failed, so now I don’t.
Bottom tier woes. It’s always going to be a one-way story down there. There are two servers that the system throws into the trash. I feel sorry for you guys, but I think you should definitely move if you want WvW.
Ironically if the top server on the list becomes way too powerful and dominates, there is nothing in the system to stop it from stomping every week. That’s just the way it is. Some things will never change.

Well, there’s the big blue paintjob we were expecting. I’m certainly looking forward to RoS flying up, up and away.
After 4:30 gmt +2 we ran with about 10man group. Met couple of ~20 men groups and many ~10 men groups. Don’t blame it on the numbers

Tl;dr – Some (not all) tPvP teams need to get off their high horse and play WvW as a server, not to glorify themselves with “lol 4v30” videos. Treat your allies with respect.
I suppose this is another endorsement of having powers work differently in the different types of game.

Imho it should be free to leave the bottom two servers. No insult intended, but they seem to be total wastelands in terms of WvW.

(As a massive pedant I laughed when Devon said countless then produced a small list, but I’m trying not to mention it !).
When doing the balance segment, instead of going through every class without specific questions, perhaps it’s better to ask specific class balance questions.
Because I noticed last SotG went like this:
Q: Rangers?
Devs: Oh, blah blah…blah.
Q: Necros?
Devs: Yup, blah blah..
Q: Eles?
Devs: Mmmhm, blah.
This went on for what, 30 minutes? The devs’ responses were not very informative because there were no specific class balance questions. And also, you can make this segment much shorter by going to the core of things and asking specific questions for specific classes.
Also, try to phrase your questions so that it’s not susceptible to “Yes/No” easy-out answers. For example, instead of asking, “Are we going to see changes to Warriors next patch?” (Devs will respond with “Yup” or “Nah”), you could rephrase it like “What do you think needs to be changed for Warriors? What problems does the class have?”
A good indication of whether or not the devs know what they’re doing is to make them state the problem in their own words. Have them tell us what the problem is, and what their solutions are. Also remember to challenge the devs with thought-provoking questions. Don’t let them off the hook easily. They are being paid by the hour, so really exercise their brains with challenging questions.

As primarily a WvW player it feels strange to have to tune in to this sPvP chat to discover what lies in store for our classes.
From what I’ve seen, I like approximately two of the hammers in the game:
Ghastly Hammer (from Ascalonian Catacombs) and
Kodan Hammer (from HotW)
… on my asura guardian they are all way too small anyway.
