Are T6 dust prices going to drop again?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

I think that now John Smith has announced that saying anything about plans for precursors will “shock the market”, I think the price of t6 mats should be shooting through the roof.

Here’s why:

Implications of the phrase, “shock the market”.

  • If, after months of complaints that precursors are too difficult to acquire, Arenanet were to announce that precursors were to become even more difficult to acquire, there would be a public outrage.
  • If Arenanet were to announce that the precursor system were not to change, then there would be no shock.
  • It therefore seems much more likely that the shock will come due to precursors becoming easier to acquire.

In addition, we have this from Colin yesterday (though I haven’t seen the original in any official capacity yet, so this may not be true), “There will be other legendaries in the future. Priority is resolving ways to get precursors, including the scavenger hunt 1/2” — this adds fuel to the fire, if genuine.

Repurcussions
If precursors are easier to acquire, then t6 mats should increase in price due to everybody buying them for the completion of their legendaries.

Any official reply to this would shock the precursor market. All I can say is we’re watching.

You need to do more than watch here, Mr. Smith.

You need to intervene.

I think Smith is from the Chicago School, and believes in the “free market”, rather than being an interventionalist.

Buying "The End Game."

in Black Lion Trading Co

Svarty.8019

I think the problem people really have with buying and selling legendaries is that they have some premeditated opinion on what a legendary item should be, and the realization that ANet’s definition of a legendary item doesn’t match that person’s definition bothers them. I think if you come to terms with what a legendary is, rather than what you think it ought to be, you’ll find it all makes sense within the framework of the game. (Note: This isn’t advocating complacency, rather that you shouldn’t be trying to imprint your personal vision of the game onto ANet)

Hopefully that has helped.

Well, Arenanet made it perfectly clear what they think Legendaries should be:

Legendaries are supposed to (sic);

  • “show off your accomplishments and symbolise all of the things that you’ve been doing” (Lead Designer Isiah Cartwright – in this video) and,
  • “show everyone that you are a true master of Guild Wars 2” (quoted from this page entitled “Forging Your First Legendary Weapon” as though they should be available to everybody).

Legendary weapons became a mockery because the people who acquired them didn’t necessarily have to do any of these things.

You shouldn’t be trying to imprint your personal vision of the game onto ANet

…and neither should you.

Hopefully that has helped.

I think 25 is a little too high, as 25 players can quickly take down a gate. 15 is a better number.

I agree, 15 would be a decent number. 15 people is hardly a zerg.

…but 15 doesn’t do what they want, which is to split up big zergs.

Eh, I could see it split up a 50 man into 3 15-20 mans. I’m okay with this.

…but it’s more likely to be split into 35 (10 of whom don’t cull) and 15.

Does the economy need more gold sinks?

3) Armor repair and waypoint costs, though I feel those are trivial…

This one sinks the most of all. It is not trivial in volume.

Here’s why I say trivial:

  1. You only pay armor repair when you die…. on average, I pay armor repair once every few days.

Outrageous claims like “I never die” are unrealistic and make me think that you never play!

  1. If you pay 3s to WP to a faucet that grants 50s, is the WP sink significant? It slows your gain from the faucets, but not significantly. Best example: I WP from Orr to HotW, costs me 4s, and the dungeon grants 65s+ in pure coin rewards (boss kills + dungeon reward.) The 4s is not significant

Simply wrong.

The place that I feel we need more sinks is at the higher end of the economy, because Luxury goods are moving further in price away from the ‘average man’ income / wealth level…. and a lack of sinks at the high end allows that gap to widen, creating a barrier to market entry.

Make sense?

Just a quick note—I said the odds of it dropping was closer to .005 than the 1 in a million or so that was tossed out. Those aren’t the exact odds, but if my math is correct, 10 players running the event every day might expect one staff to drop after about 7 months. (And we haven’t been out that long.)

This is an odd way of saying “one drop every 5.83333 years”.

I made a previous thread about that, but i couldn’t get a dev response on how two precursors of the same type were handled. But knowing how bad the rates can be i assume there is a coin toss to decide what is the precursor(if there are two greatswords).

I doubt they would put extra code in, they are probably just items on a table.

Just a video by WoodenPotatoes giving insight on this great game as a whole. I thought it would be a good idea to put this out there. Developers can always use positive feedback, whether they implement anything or not.

Thanks to WP for the video.

I think BogOtter nails it in the comments section for me. Traditional quests aren’t the answer, but extra bits and bobs, things to interact with, secret codes, clues, mysteries, puzzles etc. would give some extra zest, zip, vim and/or vigour to the game-world.

One of my friends found a secret cave in Lion’s Arch with a candle, shovel, a coin and a suitcase (with impossible-to-read text on it -too low resolution to make out the letters). This was something special and we spent an afternoon trying to decypher the text on the suitcase. Things like this are great!

because of the DR system this is causing a huge imbalance and a huge gap upon earning money by playing the market sim, and for those who are trying to put their work in in farming. There is no DR on the Trading post.

Whose to say you putting in your power trading work is worth more than us trying to work equally as hard farming? How is your time worth more than ours? ANET has clearly shown their side that they value traders more than others as the DR speaks for itself. Which is frustrating to all of those players that don’t want to power trade.

I agree with this. People who want to work hard and “travel all over, collecting items and amassing materials to build your Legendary Weapon” as sanctioned by Isaiah Cartwright, are being forced to NOT travel all over and instead being encouraged, because of Diminishing Returns on drops, to attempt to manipulate the trading post.

Sadly, the ingredients used in most crafted items sell for more then the finished product because resources are so scarce. Crafting in GW2 was not developed to be what most players love about crafting.

Combined, it means that the majority of foods are impossible to sell at profit. Eventually enough people will realize it is cheaper to buy the item off the TP than make it themselves and the demand for the finished good will rise while supply drops.

This will probably take a year or two is my guess, and honestly, that’s being optimistic.

Obviously, this all comes down to;

  • supply: how prevalent the nodes are in the game-world and
  • demand: how many pies are eaten.

I think there is a 250-unit buffer where people aren’t selling the components they collect because when they hit “deposit all collectibles” all of them disappear from their bags. When people fill those 250-units, they will dump a lot more stuff on the TP (either the few in their bags in excess of the 250 or the 250 whole from their collection-banks to renew the buffer). When these components hit the market, the crafting cost will drop, but by the same logic so will the price of the finished product (due to competition).

Mythical Weapons should be what the now-tainted and debased “Legendary” Weapons failed to be:
i.e. Difficult to acquire and related to Achievements, not luck or grind.

Why Achievements and not drops?
The previous Legendary system was flawed in that it did not achieve the desired outcomes of;

Legendary weapons became a mockery because the people who acquired them didn’t necessarily have to have done ANYTHING in the game.

Instead, Legendaries came to symbolise fortune.
Fortune in the sense of luck;

  • Precursors could only be gained via luck (from The Mystic Forge or a drop)
  • Gift of Luck was supposed to mean lots of lucky drops
  • Other expensive drops such as Lodestones were also based on luck

AND in the sense of money;

  • Completed Legendaries were traded on the market
  • Precursors were traded on the market
  • Much of the Gift of Luck, Lodestones and other expensive components could be bought from the trading post

New Mythicals can be the revered aspirational status symbols that Legendaries failed to be!

This makes no sense.

The real answer is to make them expensive in karma and coin.

No, this makes perfect sense. What is expensive one day, is less expensive the next.

Coin is expensive one day and inexpensive the next?

Over time, more coin enters the market, and the value of coin diminishes. Perfect example is the precursor market. Near launch, a precursor would trade for less than 100g because no one had that much coin. Now, they trade upwards of 700g, and _people do have that much coin.

Does not compute. John Smith is always saying that there is no inflation etc. The thing is… if I look at non-precursor items, they really aren’t inflating. The fact is, you picked an extraordinary market as your example.

+1 can we make the icey’s more expensive and require less quantity?

who decided to make us click buy and then OK 100 times?

If you did it so the people can do it slowly, can u make it 10g each and have us buy 10x?

100x clicking is no joke…. i have done it… i wouldn’t want anyone else to sit there like i did.

(well i lie, i would want all of u guys to really suffer but thats my S side speaking out.)

NO! Clicking is part of the legendary process and not as much of a chore as accumulating the 100g.

Can you tone down the butter and chocolate?

We can’t have any recipes that are karma/coin only due to the ease in earning karma and coin.

This makes no sense.

The real answer is to make them expensive in karma and coin.

No, this makes perfect sense. What is expensive one day, is less expensive the next.

Coin is expensive one day and inexpensive the next?
