This matchup was much better than the crap we have now they implemented a diabolical new system that panders to the tier 1 crybabies.
It needs to offer full invulnerability to even come close to arrow cart mastery (same number of points).
Can’t we change them to 24 hour matchups like last time Arenanet were calibrating the ladder?
Frankly though, don’t hold back this week. Show ArenaNet just how badly they got it wrong.
Reminds me of the Dirty Harry scene where the bad guy pays to be beaten up.
The Deer Hunter on GUNnar’s right now.
problem is for the T3 servers if they DONT crush the T7 server they will lose rating.
The old rating system is irrelevant now though, right?
It is the exact same system with a bit more randomness in it.
BIT? A BIT? It’s T O T A L L Y random. Insane!
I would love to take the credit but it was really the work of many other folks to get this live.
It’s hell, Devon. Thanks for working hard to push it out on time, but it’s awful. You matched our t7 server against two from t3. This will get guilds transferring all over the place and ruining the ladder system all over again. Bad Arenanet! BAD!
Lol… if the guilds transfer after one bad match up you’re probably better off without them… also, it’ll take a while to stabilize so just enjoy the week and learn from the larger server’s tactics like we will if we get paired against a larger server. It’s not a big deal or the end of the world… at least it’s diversity instead of the same stale match ups.
This is a ridiculous statement. How can we learn from their One-Big-Zerg tactics with fewer players?
Don’t feel sorry, it will just be boring, because I am not inclined to even bother spending time in WvW when we are so thoroughly mismatched. Both Piken Square and Riverside can field mor people on 1 map than we can on all 4 combined. I will be PvEing this week. Maybe A-Net can get it right next week.
This says it all. I liked the small fights we had the last 2 weeks. Now its just big blobs against a few of us. If you already check the maps, u can already see the outcome of this match-up.
Thanks Anet, well done on this mess.
For this reason, I’m out.

Anybody want to farm CoF1 all week?
Is it fixed though? I just salvaged a bunch of rare armours and got just 1 ecto. From a weapon I just salvaged, I got 3. Is it fixed for weapons but not armour, or did I just get yet a-(!&$!*@-nother run of bad luck?
This thread… it’s just so… H E A V Y!
Very Very dissappointed that Cryhavoc, PRXM and MARA needed to blob to wipe RiOT! No respect for you guys now :/
Ultimately, RiOT wiped. Who cares how?
We spent around an hour capturing keeps, towers, supply camps etc. We killed quite a few enemy players and I got drops as well…but just 2 badges for the entire one hour. I made sure to tag as many of them as I could, and used a fair bit of AoE.
You’re doing the right things. Try it again. You have to run into big groups of enemies time and again. ZvZ it!
Advice to budding developers (because Anet’s won’t learn): NEVER put stealth classes in a mulitplayer game.
Thanks for fixing it!
How is this not fixed yet? How can not being able to place siege be such a huge issue that it has not been fixed?
I didn’t want to complain, but wvw is very unstable right now and this match-up is pretty much invalid since anyone can form a map zerg and golem rush whatever they want.
This chap appears to have a valid concern.
How will Ruins of Surmia fare against Gandara? Your guess is as good as mine is.
RoS will be mulched. No guessing is required.
Votf were awesome, so was xxx. Riot and Vcy are at their level also.
Apart from the tactics, let’s not forget that they each brought 30+ guys onto the field.
This only started happening to me tonight, but other people have had issues in the past.
16k ectos are sold in a blink of an eye.
It’s not 16 really, though, as the OP points out. The 16k is refreshed all the time as new people match that price or try to undercut it for quick sales. So in effect it is always 16k, though it’s a “new” 16k all the time.
In my experience, it takes me about an evening of WvW to get a WXP level. You could do a lot of world events, instead, in that time (especially with the amazing new API!). If the WXP chests are the same size, it’ll still be more profitable to port around doing events.
Do you think that if they made the Item Promotion system result in a few more T6 materials it would;
- become worthwhile, or
- do you think T6 materials would change in value to make it equally prohibitive?
As John Smith will doubtless tell you, there is a huge % of playerbase for whom money is no object. They are “comfortably off” in RL. You know, the guys who don’t give a crap that the RL economy is in the pan – the ones we all aspire to be!
I always recommend to people when getting into investing of any kind to define your outs before you invest. Pick numbers for profit and loss and time early and stick to them.
Funny story. I once bought a bunch of Consortium Clipper skins because they were never going to drop anymore. Then I was happy that the price didn’t deflate and I kept hold of them as a long-term investment/hedge.
Then Arenanet made them drop from new content and my investment was ruined. Great job guys.
My advice is to never invest in anything ever. Someone will change the rules and leave you with nothing.
Anyone get a advise for using guardian vs mesmer?
I believe there are three ways to combat a mesmer;
- Run away,
- Make some wacky spec especially for this fight,
- Bring friends.
I think the “Precursor Scavenger Hunt” has been abandoned.
You have to be careful with companies. They often end projects prematurely with no warning or explanation. It would be wise to bring this topic up at each and every interview, to make sure they still have it on their agenda.
Vcy are doing very well, it only took their 50 man zerg an hour to get a wooden wall down on bay.
Glad to see the Faren love. Sorry he’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but he’s one of our favorites to write (and a fave of the voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, who supplies Faren’s dulcet tones).
I didn’t know it was him (I guess that’s why he’s an actor).
We are not planning on adding a new currency to handle Ascended items in WvW.
Bring on the purples with badges, thanks, I got 9k I didnt spend yet just waiting! 1k each would be a good price IMO.
someone who has more than me!
I got a full bank line.
I’m sure there are plenty of us with this happening.
Well better than nothing, I assume. I still believe the incredible damage + poison is going overboard and incentivizing people to make the somewhat stale turtle situations even staler.
Stale eh? How do you perceive a victory for defenders? Of course, you perceive it as the defenders wiping the attackers. So… not defending at all, just more attacking.
Furthermore after only two weeks, people saying everybody having adapted to the arrowcart changes is just silly.
I can see this point, I think. It’s my belief that the siege weapons need their costs rebalancing. Since it is now necessary to take at least a catapult to any defended tower, catapults should be cheaper (supply and demand, surely? – or allow players to make them/sell them and let the market decide! Because that never results in things going down to the vendor price +1 copper. Ever! Yay crapitalism!).
Mesmer has too much power and it should be nerfed.
Or something.
But seriously, the most powerful ability the mesmer has is to drop enemy auto-target.
Yeah we moved yesterday, had good fights so far blobs are less numbers. Looking forward to fighting Dzag and RoS!
Gah! Not RoS again Aren’t they supposed to be in tier 5 by now?
What I don’t understand is – why have Arenanet implemented a system which isn’t financially viable?
The simplest answer would be that they basically forgot about these formulas or lost sight of the big picture when they made these changes.
Thanks for the responses everybody. More food for thought.
I get this when doing jumping puzzles. Sometimes I randomly fall to where I just came from. It’s very disturbing and really puts me out of my jumping rhythm. It is particularly noticable in the borderlands JP where you fall through the hole.
No offense to the Vabbi WvW community, but I suspect their performance today will simply end up as more evidence for the case against transfers.
I agree that it became about using a lot more ranged siege and that rams are now as useful as golems – i.e. only useful if the enemy has not spotted you.
I think;
- arrow carts should be more expensive,
- cats should be cheaper and,
- trebs should be cheaper.
That spot to cata on hills is pretty cool. Learn something new every day.
I would not have thought the splash was that big, but we’ll give it a whirl. Thanks Issy.
@Firegoth how did you get the shiny armor without juggernaut? i must know!!!!
I believe you switch weapon once it’s out.
My question is where did he get all the money to buy the parts? Cash > Gems > Gold?
While I respect the fact that you’re trying to do some damage and move away from the old clichéd 0, 0, 30, 30, 10 AH build, I would advise you to stick with it. There’s a reason it’s so popular.
It is, essentially, another WvW map. You can still fight each other, it will behave exactly like the JP used to, except you will be removed from EB so someone who wants to come in to fight for objectives will not be kept from playing by someone running the JP.
Will you be able to send messages into the EB map channel to inform people that you can mesmer portal them to the end? I thought not.
What I don’t understand is – why have Arenanet implemented a system which isn’t financially viable?
As a member of a small guild who does 99.9% wvw activites, we would like to thank Arena Net for giving us a reason to try and defend towers/keeps/forts. As previous DaoC players we appreciate what Epic wvw battles can be, and watching zergballs take keeps in under a minute is NOT it. Im sure there will be a vocal minority desperate for wvw exp who can only think of how they are inconvenienced by having to think, or use counter siege. But on behalf of the silent majority, I would like to say…. suck it up princess.
I would like to see the carts damage become immune on a keep door however as it seems silly that AC’s should take place of rams.I’m very disappointed that a guild who claims to do so much WvW had trouble defending before as most guilds find it easy. It was very easy and if you really need these new arrowcarts to do it, I suggest you take a look at your tactics.
Is it just me, or have VoTF complained more vocally than anybody else about this change? I believe the OP has a very strong point, and to see a quality guild (effectively) telling him to L2P seems to tarnish their image somewhat in my mind.
I think with this idea well balanced, a Keep or a Tower would be so hard to take down when there’s a zerg of 40+ people in front of it that it wouldn’t be fast enough. Players would think about the time wasted in only one point and would try to separate in teams to take/defend other objectives in the map at the same time.
Arenanet have stated that they have to be careful about producing gameplay that makes people tell others to go away. This is a social game and is about inclusivity. If the game were changed to have scaling difficulty, there would be incentive to send other players away in order to reduce this difficulty. Thus scaling difficulty in WvW would be very very bad indeed.
As an alternative, Isiah Cartwright stated that they want small groups to do things such as attacking zergs, splitting up and initiating attacks (somehow -probably some simultaneous capping thing).

I love how AS say they get focused 90% of the time and they prove it with current numbers of points. What I see, myself, is that, unlike AS, WSR actually cares about defending its borderland. I kill hundreds and hundreds of opponents, I get killed dozens of times, yet I play only in my BL. So how is this possible if we don’t defend what’s ours?
AS, stop using the flawed system of Anet to say that GH, Dzagonur and RoF all focus on you when all you do is attack and not defend. Because yes, attacking grants you point on the short term, but you seem to forget that defending grants you points on the long term. While you don’t learn that, please avoid the “they all focus us” complains.
This is a good post. I feel that WSR do defend with great force and that in comparison, Arbor towers go down with less effort. I find that WSR do like their mega-zergs, but that’s been proven to work on all tiers of the game. I feel that GH need to counter them with our own mega-zergs like we didn’t do enough against RoS (and hence one reason why we’re in this tier now).
I get the impression that WSR could explore the other borderlands a little more, but seem to be (perhaps with some justification) somewhat reserved about doing so.
1) It is a PvP area
2) There is no way to walk into WvW from other zones. You must use an Asura Gate.
3) All PvE exploration can be completed solo while WvW requires groups to take points.
4) If one team remains first for weeks, other teams will have a hard time taking their points to get the exploration.
5) WvW is separated from PvE just like PvP is but we are not required to get PoI in PvPThis is in no way me crying that it is to hard to get these points. I just think that having WvW required for a PvE achievement seems flawed.
This is like saying you shouldn’t have to do PvE to get components for a Legendary weapon.
Hmm… maybe they should make the legendary weapons per-zone-type, so if you do a long list of things in PvE, PvP or WvW you can make a legendary that can only be used in the relevant zone.

Yestersay I spent 700k karma and got 1 lodestone, just saying.
Yep. Boxes are a joke.
The RNG is BS is GW2.
Hmmm I think I’ll post it in this thread:
How am I supposed to enter the Molten facility?
I used an entrance in Wayfarer Foothills near Fusenfell Creek, but the wiki page says it’s somewhere else on the map. I believe I heard that there are several entrances and depending on which you use, you get a different map layout.

This game does have way too much basis on RNG. It’s ridiculous how much is involved. I honestly thought MMOs had moved past this, but every time I log into GW2 I suddenly have flashbacks of dungeon runs in Vanilla WoW trying to get that last piece of t1 for my priest by running over… and over… and over… and those aren’t good memories :-P
This person brings up a point which I believe to be very poignant.
