please support chinese font input in eu/us clients ( both simplified and traditional), since there is no “asian servers” , there are many players from taiwan, Hongkong and mainland of china even Chinese students aboard play at eu/us server, but gw2 dosen’t support chinese input (both simplified and traditional) quite well.
it is not a difficult issue, please support chinese language input so more player will benefit from the change.

And so it is with a heavy heart we say goodbye forever to players stopping to help each other out. Just like in the Nightmare tower, we see downed players being left behind just so people can “FARM, FARM, FARM those bags”.
Today I was quietly going around LA collecting Heirlooms. I was doing ok until a random pack respawned and I was downed. Ok I can handle this. It happens. Furstrating it may be, but not as frustrating as seeing the zerg run straight past me. No one helping me up. I tried to rally but I couldn’t.
So I waypoint and try again. I see someone in the same predicament. I stop to help only to have a group of mobs spawn again. down I go. 5 people completely ignore the player I was helping and myself.
So we both mention this in map chat. The responses show just how pathetic the GW2 community is becoming due to the idiotic zerg mentality. I only managed to screenshot one of the responses, but it does show how self centered and ignorant the community is becoming.
this game is about all about zerg farming so don’t blame the players for developer decisions. as you experienced, trying to rez someone around upscaled mobs made for zergs gets you killed so use a wp next time and don’t go solo in content designed for zergs.

Would you like them to add an option to auto kill your targets for you too? So you can just get free loot without doing anything at all.
Seriously, are people that lazy they don’t even want to press one button to pick up their loot?

All I know is that I would have rather the entire 1st year have been about adding customization, housing, guild halls, mounts (or some other major collectable/customizable personal progression) customizable skills, new races, expanding Dynamic Events, how they work, how the branch, adding dynamic enemy AI troop movements point captures across all maps, new dungeons, new earn-able armor sets….
…rather than this idiotic story about Scarlet. The story sucks & it permanently ruins what was once cool about the lore of GW. it is now permanently broken unless they retcon it. Which is ironic because that is how they started breaking it in the first place, but they don’t want to retcon things now that they have added a storyline that is worthy of retconning.
I agree. Hopefully anet gets on a better development track soon.

I love the game, but I have many of the same complaints as any of the other players on the forum. I was getting trolled pretty hard by Hugh the other day… hambow is pretty OP, has nothing to do with him being better than me.
You playing warrior? or sin?
I play lock-down mesmer and a Teldo engineer build, in that order.

I think it would be innovative and great for pr if you aneters had a dev team vs dev team tournament and showed it on twitch. I’m sure y’all can muster up 10 teams and do best out of 3 elimination matches. Also, you could have a 1v1 against Hugh (not on hambow) so you can prove that it has nothing to do with him being better than you.

that’s just lazy and stupid.
the same could be said for not having an auto loot option, non customizable ui, poor in-game reporting features, ascended gating and crafting vs credit card legendaries, plethora of other poor decisions…
I guarantee that if there were an option you would use it, particularly in wvw.
The UI is minimal and non-invasive. The in game reporting features function just fine. There is no ascended gating because the entire game was created with Exotics and legendaries in mind – ascended and legendary are by no means necessary. If someone wants to buy gems with money and convert it to gold then go ahead – it doesn’t give them any major advantage over anyone else.
UI is minimal, non-invasive and not customizable. I, and many, would beg to differ, the reporting function is not thorough. Ascended is gated behind rng and crafting, and necessity or desire is irrelevant. Legendaries are the end game loot with swappable ascended stats that can be purchased with a credit card, while pure ascended gear is gated and not purchasable through the bltc. A small advantage is still an advantage, even more so when it comes to being able to customize stats for various encounters.
also, way to dodge my last comment…

Why do I have to keep constantly pressing F when im trying to focus on staying alive in large battles? It is very distracting always watching for when you get that xp pop on screen then press F for the loot, when really all I want to be looking at is where the enemy is or dodging red circles on the floor.
I have read that it is illegal to make a macro to collect this loot so could you please add the option for loot to automatically be collected into my inventory, as1) spamming F is distracting
2) spamming F is annoying
3) spamming F is clunkythat is all.
I agree. hopefully we get a qol option for auto looting soon.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.
No one needs to log into the game and play either, but that’s not the point. Also, ascended gear was supposed to be a “minimal stat increase with a focus on zero grind” and here we are dealing with issues like these.

It’s not that rangers are spammy, but the game is spammy. It’s spammy because there’s limited usable skills with excessive cool downs and broken mechanics like weapon swap cool down which completely limits counter play and actually discourages people from using skills properly.
Why should I save my skills for use at the “proper” time when I’ll lose access to them for 8 seconds when I swap weapons? You’re always better to blow through your skills asap and what you have left is spam 1. And if you were saving your skills for proper counter play, what will you be doing in the mean time? Oh right, spam 1. Because I’m saving it for when the enemy does something.
Get rid of weapon swap cool down, double the amount of usable skills on the weapons and let people slot more utilities instead. That’ll do this game a world of good more than any redesign.
Bingo!
See swag, this is someone who understands macro issues with the profession designs in this game. All you are doing is the same junk number balancing act the devs have done on top of an extremely limited system with huge meta issues.
I’d like to remind you that your threads are breaking the posting etiquette laid out by the developers and the forum rules by continuously bumping your own threads with “updates”. Also, with the way you are spamming this forum, I’m seriously inclined to think you are intentionally trying to annoy a community that is already frustrated enough.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
swag, you’re way out of reality with the majority of your “suggestions” for this game. for example, you are trying to make a case against the profession wide design and use of auto attack, but seem to target the ranger profession as the only one that is “spammy”.
Looking at all of the Ranger’s offensive weapon skills in a line up, we see that only one sixth of them (6/36) have a cast-time at or above 1 second (I’m not counting [Counterattack] because it’s a block skill); and most of the skills at that below that threshold have cast-times of 1/2 second or less (especially the ones that activate from range). Having the vast majority of your skills activate very fast drastically reduces the amount of viable clutch counter-play options and it also takes a lot of the thinking out of when or where to use a skill because the vast majority of them pose no risk to the user for activating them. A 1/2 or 1/4 second cast-time is pittance. Anyone can get away with that. By making all of one’s attacks skills with such short cast-times, it sets the the weapon-set on a path to skill spam. Then, with the addition of passive, RNG, instant-activation procs, the entire system turns into a stream of poorly defined attacks that provides little clutch counter-play opportunities for an opponent. In a game without a dedicated healer, this is not an ideal design.
You want to increase cool downs to 15+ seconds on most other attacks, but that only serves to make players even more reliant on using auto attack.
This is actually where I may have gone a little overboard. I’m actually looking at addressing a few key skill changes that do in fact go too far on the recharge.
Might as well remove auto attack completely, make all attacks have a 5 second charge up with a 15 second cool down that forces the player to stand still and cast, and a floating text above the enemies head with the name of the attack that is being cast…
Now you’re the one going overboard. One of this game’s most defining features is its cast-on-the-go design for most of its skills. I would never dream of taking that away.
Even so, this game would indeed be a lot better if auto-attacks weren’t actual 1 skills; but rather universal, low-damage attacks made with the weapon. However, it’s far too late for that.
while you may identify with a couple of real issues plaguing the meta, you have 0% clue as to what would be healthy changes for professions and combat in this game. At this point, I’m starting to think that these threads are just to annoy players by spamming the profession balancing forums with this stuff.
I’ve said it before, but due to the nature of GW2 (primarily stemming from its lack of a dedicated healer class), there is a very simple set of rules that govern how combat is balanced. It’s actually a much simpler design than a game that would have a dedicated healer. All of my changes are based around those simple ideas. If you want, I could repost them for you, but until then I’ll continue to take this site’s feedback in order to craft and recraft my suggestions.
I wasn’t going overboard, it was a parody on your suggestions and the route you want to take professions and combat.
thanks, but I don’t need you to repost your poorly thought out vision, concepts, assumptions and ideas that do nothing to make any meaningful improvements.

What’s wrong with the auto-attack? IMHO it’s in a reasonable place and gives the weapon a role, but I’m not really a ranger, so I can’t really tell.
Having a “role” based on auto-attacking is a terrible design that promotes spammy, throwaway skill game-play that doesn’t provide opponents a clear sense of when to attempt counter-play maneuvers.
Except that LB 1’s core mechanic offers clear incentives for when and where to use it, how to neuter its output, and is complemented by the other skills on the weapon. It’s probably the most legible and most interesting Ranger weapon with this in mind.
That doesn’t change the fact that its damage is very high for an auto-attack. The function of an auto-attack should be as a lull in combat or maybe possibly as a means to prime another skill’s attack (although we really see none of that in GW2 unfortunately); the auto-attack should not be the primary source of a weapon-set’s damage. Due to the auto-attack’s nature as a skill that can constantly be spammed, making it into the apex source of DPS on a weapon-set drastically narrows the window for clutch counter-play on part of the opponent. In the case of a ranged auto-attack—since the auto-attack doesn’t stop—it pretty much limits the counter-play options to CC chaining the user, projectile reflection, line of sight, or an extended block/invulnerability. None of those types of responses are particularly engaging for either the auto-attacker or the opponent nor do such defensive responses (outside of line of sight) have short enough cool-downs that can compete against the auto-attack’s pressure.
The best option would be to just readjust the damage and funnel the subtracted damage into other skills. I’ve been thinking of making a chain skill for [Rapid Fire] in order to fill the void left by a [Long Range Shot] damage nerf.

I pvped for a long time in a game where combat was 10x faster and everyone had access to stealth/invisibility and I’ve gotta say, the stealth and counter stealth mechanics here are worst I’ve ever seen in my history of mmos.

It’s disappointing to see anet/ncsoft put so little resources and effort into their class and combat systems when there is so much more potential here.

This is my opinion on why thief should not be nerfed further, and why it should not change. I have thought about this for very long time and I think these are the points everyone seems to miss when they call for a nerf, or start a QQ thread about Thief.
1. One of the main Thief mechanics is to excel at 1v1, it even says so during character creation. Therefore the difference in ability required between say a ele and thief to win in a 1v1 should be different. That is precisely the point.
2. Because of this prowess in 1v1 thief is inherently crippled in terms of all other roles. All other classes fit the other roles better than thief. Thief is at the point right now where anymore significant nerf to the class will push this inherent lack of other playstyles to the point where thief will not even be able to attempt said other roles. Since gw2 is about playing it your way that is unacceptable.
3. People vary on skill level, reaction time, ping.
4. Thief dps is a counter to some builds, all builds need counters.
5. Thief gameplay attracts a different type of gamer to GW2. No I don’t mean trolls (IMO the trolls all moved to Warrior/Guard a while ago anyway), but gamers that are interested in resource management, rather than timed management. If you wanted to sell something why would you exclude a certain type of person? I for one would not be playing this game if not for the thief class.
6. A lot of times people complain about Thief and only use one or a few examples of the problem. People will not take this seriously because you present it as an outlier. Or an issue that rarely happens, and therefore should not be balanced around as it is not representative of everyday play. If you want the issue to be taken seriously you must present proof that this is the regular occurrence; meaning not just you presenting the issue coming from multiple occurrences and multiple different Thief players of varying skill levels, but players of all skill levels analyzing the problem and saying the same thing. Do that and people will take the issue seriously, and atm you really can’t with Thief. All the other issues (how the builds work, defense, available useful builds, effective countering) have been beaten to death on these forums pertaining to the Thief, and why nerfing this class further is unnecessary. So I hope you can kinda see the problems that Thief faces, thanks for reading.
wrong thread btw.
all professions need a lot work and adjustment, precious thieves included.

Stuff like this only serves to alienate more people and I see it as another bad move considering the quarterly numbers keep dropping.
Where do you see these quarterly numbers?
Anyway, I find this change mostly unnecessary. It’s no big deal. I honestly don’t care if it’s there or not. Getting to rank 30 is easy and something you will hit naturally if you just map out WvW. Anyone who isn’t cheating the system somehow will hit rank 30 naturally.
The change is easy, easy, easy to do. Hitting rank 30 is practically effortless as long as your playing WvW.
If you hate WvW, tough luck. You don’t deserve a Legendary if you can’t even play to a minimum acceptable level in WvW.
Ncsoft has all the financial and stock info on their site.
The “tough luck” attitude is a great way to build a healthy game and community…

On the contrary, it should be a healthy, light hearted way to try and reverse all the misconceptions and unwarranted hate that keeps coming our way, if it were buried in the ranger forums it wouldn’t really serve its purpose.
this thread is in the wrong section btw…
so our terribly thought out and placed traits, pathetic damage, near useless pets that are not getting fixed, lots of other stuff that needs attention, …, … is all a misconception and not deserving of unwarranted hate?
players have been begging for real change and improvement since beta (when they mashed 2 professions together to make rangers), and over a year into live it gets announced that one of our useless traps is becoming a combo field… yeah, let’s rejoice at the “amazing things” coming for ranger in 2014 that won’t make any difference!
quarterly sales and numbers keep dropping and professions and combat are one of the major reasons why. profession development as a whole is in desperate need of attention, yet surprisingly the most neglected so don’t go blaming players for developer issues and bad decisions.

My guild is 160 strong. We have a blast together.
But the truth is, game mechanics don’t make you social. Game mechanics might force you to play together. That’s why so many guilds in places like WoW implode. People aren’t there for people, they’re there to win.
And as long as that’s the case…you can’t call it social.
great for you and your guild!
you’re right, nothing can make anyone social, but game mechanics can help encourage more socialization and improve player retention. also, there were a lot of messages in the op that you glossed over just to spin doctor 1 point.

You need a different guild, mate. An awesome group of folks and an active GM that likes to run events makes a lot of this crap more… temporarily forgettable. I mean, its still there, but you feel less inclined to think about it being against you.
Not saying you should leave your friends, but a more active guild with lots more people doing the things you want to makes the game better for those who need this sort of interaction. Find a new home and bring them over too!
that does not resolve the core issues the op brought up.

As stated, my friends and I came to Guildwars 2 with a small and tightly knit guild. Since our 1 year+ of playing, our group has not really expanded. In fact, many of us have lost interest in Guildwars 2 and have been doing other things to kill the time.
We all agree that there is a strong lack of social activities in Guildwars 2 due to the following:
LACK OF DEFINED ROLES AND TOO MUCH INDEPENDENT CLASS POWER
Roles are not defined in Guildwars 2 and the zerker meta continues to hurt the community. In other games, players are forced to become dependent on other players in order to survive. In Guildwars 2 certain classes are so independently powerful and are able to do so many overlapping roles by themselves that the need for other players is extinguished.
Rather than promoting group dynamics, players instead group up with independently powerful classes that are easy to play (heavies) and steamroll content before simply disbanding.
In other games, where roles are defined, you added tanks and healers to your friends list because you needed them. Forced group cooperation helped to foster player relationships because players HAD to work together to succeed. People in your group offered things that you could never do on your own. In Guildwars 2, you don’t need the other players but instead they are there to simply bolster your own independent power. When classes under perform independently, they are unwanted (ex: ranger).
While Guildwars 2 does many cooperative things right (combo fields, rally system), it does too much more wrong (single classes able to do all the roles of the party [warrior: damage/heal/boon/tank/control]). Players are not promoted to make strong relationships or depend on other players because other players bring very little to the table that they can’t do themselves.
Guildwars 2 does very little to capitalized on its teamwork systems (i.e. some of the most powerful combo field attacks being able to be done just by one person [engineer turret aoe healing], Guardian hammer spam on self-dropped fields).
Extending into WvW and PvP. The mesmer and thief are so independently powerful because of how stupid the stealth mechanic is that they just abandon players that attempt to fight along side them due to their access to an infinite number of escapes. The extreme 1v1 capabilities of these classes leads to them to be superior due to power creep and only encourages them to align with other thieves or mesmers to troll.
Other players attempting to roam with these classes in WvW just end up being deadweight.
LACK OF GUILD ACTIVITIES:
Aside from the limited Guild dailies, there are no raids, no GvG, and no content that focuses on guild cooperation. Instead we have large zerg events where the scale is so huge that the independent contribution of a smaller player party matters very little. There is no way to isolate the rewards to the players who promoted the most teamwork when there are 200+ people participating in a giant lagfest that usually encompasses pressing 1 for 30 mins.
Havoc squads are the closest thing to organized small group combat, but they get crushed by large zergs that do little to promote team skill. Certain escape classes simple abandon allies when this happens to lone wolf.
ENTIRE GAME REVOLVES AROUND MELEE:
All the group buffs in the game are 600m or less on average. There are very few targeted area heals. Players are encouraged simply to stand next to each other and stack heavy boon classes (warrior/guardian) to achieve near godlike status. The gameplay does not promote any kind of strategic positioning. In fact, positioning barely matters at all in Guildwars 2 unless your ranged and out of the “god” temple of your companions. Then you are told you are playing wrong.
This just leads to a boring dynamic that encourages stacking and button mashing with very little strategy or teamplay.
OVERALL SHALLOWNESS AND TL;DR:
Overall the failing of the above systems (too much independent class power, lack of roles, melee focused gameplay with no teamwork, very little guild support/content) makes the game feel like a very shallow cooperative experience. As a result, most of us in at least my group, have lost interest and just check back every now and then to see if things ever got better (only to find more Scarlet Briar while larger issues are ignored or not being solved in a reasonable time table [1 year, same problems or empty promises in the shunned classes forums]).
Ultimately the current systems of Guildwars 2 promote very little cooperation and instead result in selfish gameplay. Large zerg events do not promote teamwork and are too large and chaotic to reward team synergy.
great post!
it’s sad to see all the posts in this thread that don’t get the clearly laid out messages and concerns you brought up. oh well.

Have you ever tried to die in real life (it can be temporary for the sake of the experiment) and then pick up an object that was near your dead body?
a big picture flew right over your head…

You might miss some loot even with this trick, but try binding aoe loot to a key you use for nothing else. Then tap that key as often as you can in a fight without compromising your and your teammates’ survival. You needn’t even see the bags on the ground, the sparkles will flow to you.
thank you, I understand. the point is not having to manually pick up loot when I should be worrying about other things. options are needed in this loot getting department.

Stop dying.
It was like me vs 50 and I managed to kill 46 of them, but even the mighty ranger has limits. Don’t worry, I came back and single handedly took sm but forgot to take a screen.

So, long range’s always been my job in games. Therefore, I’d really like to enjoy the Ranger class, but the Slot Skills seems to suck so much that I can’t..
I’m willing to get over the fact that I don’t enjoy the pet feature, and I assume I only dislike it due to it being different from other classes, and kinda forced, but the Slot Skills are..Urk!
So there’re:
Shouts: I don’t like pets.
Survival: I don’t plan to get into a situation where I need to survive; my teammates will tanks most of the damage and if the enemy’s at a point where it can attack me then we’ve probably already lost.
Spirits: I don’t think too much of the bonuses they give. All over the forums I see posts about how Hunters need buffs; I assume this is one reason why?
Traps: Once again, at long-range I don’t see how I’d incorporate these fluidly into combat. Similar to the Survival skill’s issues.
Signets: Looks like these are what I’m gonna primarily use, but Signets have always been only 1/3 slots, never the whole build’s revolvement.I’ve looked at the traits, and they actually look pretty solid, I definitely look forward to increasing my longbow range to 1500.
But yeah, has anyone came up with an effective and fun long-range Ranger playstyle?
rangers need a lot of work, roll warrior and pretend.

I like the idea of the following:
- Include a topic primer (The CDI thread owner will do this)
- Create a template for proposal ideas starting with a ‘User Story’ and then formatted in a similar way to Nike and other’s suggestions I will create this)
- No word limit as the hope is that the new format will help with more concise communication.
- Topics for the next round will be chosen by the Devs and will run concurrently where possible.
- Following the next round of topics we will discuss whether or not we like Devs choosing the topics.
- The CDI will not have its own sub forum currently as the concern is there won’t be enough exposure.
- We will do more to expose new CDI threads to the community when the go live.I think we need to continue to discuss:
- Tech improvements for the CDI forum.
- Anymore ideas or thoughts?Chris
Updated ^^
In-game email cdi topic check box voting/survey so the exposure and input is more than the same 100 forum people? Then create forum threads based on votes and send reminder in-game emails that encourage participation?

Because automated looting actually makes it really difficult to keep track of what is coming in and out.
Bind AoE loot to shift+F or something and then every time you finish a battle you press that. It’s not difficult. They’re asking you to do one single button press? Is that really such a problem?
Your first comment does not make any sense.
Is it really a problem to have an option for auto-looting without having to press a button?

Didn’t find any topic about this. But just curious. Can we have an option to autoloot ?
Considering ‘F’ is multi-purpose key sometimes it’s frustrating to pick somebodies banner instead of loot in the middle of the fight. For WvW this would also serve well – you don’t need to worry about getting loot bugs before you get downed or die.
Would be a great feature/option for a aaa mmo

Hi All,
Thanks for your collaboration in both the Vertical and Horizontal progression threads. We had some great conversation, ideation and commentary in both of the threads.
This Process Evolution topic is all about how we can improve our best working practices and processes for the CDI. The results of our last one were as follows:
1: More Focused Topics! (Done!)
2: Build out more time for Devs to engage (This is already in progress)
3: Thread owner to post a summary every three pages (The community did awesome here, but I want to build out more time to do this)
4: Post writers should aim to be concise and to the point using examples where necessary. (We need to improve here)The focus of the conversation of this topic is therefore on how to improve the CDI and is not about specific areas of the game or features.
The two areas I think we need to work out or improve on are:
1: We need to keep thread and post sizes more manageable. Should we put a limit on the word length of posts?
2: How are we going to chose topics moving forward, for example, by votes or by Anet choosing them etc?Chris
Post size limits would be a great idea.
Have you considered doing in game email surveys, voting on cdi topics and feedback? The forum can still be the go to place for providing in depth feedback, but it would be nice to at least get a majority vote on important topics. I don’t know about your tech capabilities, but would it be possible to have a simple click box voting survey?
