At very least the game should still show damage splashes on opponents which have been struck.
(this, of course would not apply to projectiles or ranged attacks)
I agree here. It makes no sense that stealth is more than simple invisibility. If I strike an invisible opponent with a melee weapon then I should know that I hit them, instantly.
My L2P advise: equip a superior sigil of fire.
Edit: And there are in fact 17562481756234 indicators of where a thief is: best indicator is that thief is a melee class. So where can the thief be?can you explain exactly how having a sigil of fire equipped is beneficial?
ok so the indicator is this???… assume that the thief is in melee range and hope that your melee weapon is equipped so you can spam #1 and pray to hit said invisible player?
Sigil of fire triggers a fireblast when you hit the opponent (with a critical hit).
Any yeah, fighting melee classes with melee weapons is a good choice – you can always go ranged but that won’t do much good against thieves.ok so you hit the thief while they were visible and your sigil proc but they reapply stealth, now what?
ok having a ranged weapon is useless so you are sol if you don’t have a melee weapon. gotcha. playing ranged is an insta loss scenario.
stand there swinging a melee weapon around is the best anti-stealth method. so “swing and pray” is your l2p advice. seems to be a great and well thought out combat mechanic…
You can also spam aoe you will hit the thief 100%.
Edit: And they have no blocks or anything.
can you tell me all the spammable aoes per profession and build?
also, you didn’t answer my question.

some players don’t want to craft, yet have 0 choice when it comes to gear progressing with their character.
There’s your problem.
You do have a choice, and that choice is either:
1. Work hard to get the ascended gear you want
2. Settle for exotic gear, which puts you out a meager 5-10% stat increase that you absolutely don’t needYou are not being forced to do anything.
the principal of the matter is that you don’t have to “work hard” for legendary gear with enough gem exchanges, but you do have to “work hard” for (lesser in function and not immune to being obsolete) ascended.
settling has nothing to do with anything, again, it’s the principal of the matter.
why are we allowed to buy and sell precursors and legendaries but not ascended gear?
Because legendaries were added since the begining of the game and the dev didn’t even had the ascended gear in mind, then they created a gear tier where you need to actually play the game to acquire it.
why are there only ascended trinkets for sale from laurel vendors but not ascended armor and weapons?
Who knows? Probably because the devs actually wanted you to work to get the armors?
why are players forced to craft if they want a reliable way to acquire ascended weapons and armor?
Wait … craft isn’t a reliable way?
I think you meant “.. if they want a fast way to acquire …”, but still with gold enough you can make an ascended set every day if you want.any plans of adding additional methods to obtaining ascended armor and weapons besides crafting and rng in this new xpac?
Again, who knows? Maybe by some collections?
here are the problems…
“work to get” ascended weapons and armor, but precursors and legendaries (superior in function to ascended and will remain top gear when more is added down the road) can be “swipe cc to get” which bypasses all the “work”. If I were so inclined, I could simply buy legendaries through gem exchanges, but that is not possible with lesser in function ascended gear.
I had said that crafting is the only reliable method. “with gold enough you can make an ascended set every day if you want” means that we are still forced to level up crafting and craft (something I could completely bypass by purchasing legendaries through gem exchanges). some players don’t want to craft, yet have 0 choice when it comes to gear progressing with their character.
edit- I’m also pretty sure there are some time gated materials that you can’t purchase for ascended weapons and armor.

With no grind, they mean no mandatory grind. There is no gear threadmill.
You don’t have to grind in order to keep up. All the grind in this game is just for cosmetics. Sure there is ascended, but that’s only like 5% better than exotic so you don’t really need it.
optional or not, there are gear and (forced) crafting (for ascended and legendary) treadmills, and those grinds are not “just for cosmetics”. also, a 5% increase is still an increase, and legendaries are the best in slot gear with their stat versatility.
i understand the devs want character progression, and time and gold sinks, but ascended and legendary armor and weapons could have been handled much differently (see ascended trinkets) that were more akin to the “cosmetic only” grind statements. all they had to do was follow the laurel route and add a hefty gold value per desired weapon and armor piece. instead, if players want to progress their characters, they are forced to grind and forced to craft to acquire these gears (or simply use their credit card to purchase bis legendaries from the bltc).
hopefully they will change these gearing up systems with the xpac to be more inline with the “cosmetic only” statements and philosophy.

Here we have a full transcript of yesterday’s presentation (thanks to the guy who wrote all that down).
Interestingly, twice Colin mentions “our no-grind philosophy for Guild Wars 2”.
It appears ArenaNet really believes their own Manifesto, when the same Colin said, “We don’t want players to grind”.
We just need to let them know that, between Ascended items and slow dungeon rewards and Legendaries and the new level-based unlocks and the new trait system unlock and etc etc, well… Their “no-grind philosophy” has been extremely grindy.
yes, I find it all very disappointing and misleading. also, it very unfortunate to still see the best in slot legendary gear available via credit card.

“This is not meant to be a rant, but at the same time I won’t force myself to sound overly excited. You might think that this is an unfair comparison, that GW1: Prophecies wasn’t as big a game as GW2 is, that it wasn’t persistent and that it didn’t have semi-regular updates. Or you might think this is an unfair comparison because GW1’s development team was much smaller, because the game was significantly less well known and because it had guild halls and GvG battles to begin with. Or you might be somewhere in the middle and think the comparison is just fine.
Either way, it’s currently 855 days since Guild Wars 2’s launch that just sounds like a jubilee, doesn’kitten, so let’s try to review how Guild Wars evolved in that period of time. Most importantly, it launched 3 boxed expansions, 2 of which were stand-alone campaigns, in total adding:
•4 playable professions
•863 learnable skills, bringing the total to 1319
•161 armor sets per gender
•Hundreds of weapon skins (I’m not going to count those…), and the unique weapons
•~110 overworld maps, almost tripling the original explorable landmass
•18 dungeons
•3 storylines with 44 story missions
•11 challenge missions, titan quests and 5–6 elite missions
•2 PvP game types (Alliance Battles and the competitive missions Fort Aspenwood and The Jade Quarry )
•Heroes
•Hard mode and vanquishing
•Annual Halloween, Wintersday, Canthan New Year and Dragon Festival special events, along with several smaller annual events
•Hall of Monuments
•Miniatures, mostly from birthday gifts
•Titles
•Alliances
•Many minigames, including Polymock, The Norn Fighting Tournament, Dwarven brawling and Rollerbeetle Racing
And to top it off, a sequel was announced by then…
Guild Wars 2 is a great game, there’s no doubt about that; after all, if I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t be here 2 years and 4 months after the game’s release. But I am genuinely surprised by how little it has evolved since then compared to its predecessor. Sure, we got many quality of life changes, 3 new maps, guild missions, EotM, 2 healing skills per profession and a bit of a new story, but it still doesn’t feel like that much.
I don’t want to be that guy who starts talking about the tengu, Cantha and expansions, but, you know, maybe, just maybe, it’s about time something huge happened to the game, bigger than an expansion, and this time for real."
(edited by Swagger.1459)
1. Too much clicking: Salvageable item, within a bag, within a box, within a chest. I spend too much time sorting and organizing and selling and destroying items in my inventory. Why is there so much crap that has no value, no use and no relevance to the game, other than to be thrown away, or sold to merchant for a miniscule amount of coin?
2. Content that requires being online at a specific time. (I know I probably have to suck this one up and take it) Accomplishment is based on being on the right map, with the right people at the right time, not on skill or ability. World bosses like Tequatl, Silverwastes legendries. I would love the challenge of this content, but I cannot change my work/school schedule around the games schedule. I know the game is designed to have us play 24 hours a day, but I just can’t do that anymore. What would this game be without Dulfy, or TTS? These two entities should be replaced by something created by the developers of the game.
3. Zergs – sometimes it’s nice to turn off my brain, hit 1 and collect loot, but there are times I wish I could use my skill to take down an objective. Bosses that require a zerg to defeat them should involve some sort of coordination by the zerg, not just hitting skill 1 repeatedly. Why don’t world bosses move? Zergs in WvW are annoying also. There has got to be a way to make WvW more tactical based and less swarm based.
4. Nothing in open PVE can kill you. Where is the challenging individual content? Killing a foe on my own takes no more effort that hitting 1, and allowing auto attack to finish the objective off. Are there any challenging enemies other than those that are so overpowered as to ‘one shot’ me, and usually have a zerg attacking them? Unless you stand there with your thumb up your butt, a foe doesn’t do enough damage to hurt you, they may as well be ambient (Go outside LA in GW1 and stand for 3 seconds next to a Titan in normal mode. You’ll see what I mean.)
5. Pre-cursors Hey I won the lottery! So now I can sell it and have more coin than I need to buy what? Another precursor? I’ve gotten a few, which is why I have more coin than I know what to do with, which is why I would love something to do in this game that is challenging and takes skill, not zerg or ‘auto attack’. (RNG I’ve gotten 10, you’ve gotten none – sux to be you. Maybe not, at least you still have something to desire)
6. Traits We need 2 or 3 times the number of traits we currently have, and a way to easily switch between setups depending on the battle we are facing. More traits equal more fun. I wouldn’t mind working through content to acquire traits that are different than the ones I have already gotten multiple times on various characters. Any new characters I make are just going to have to live with limited traits. I am not buying or replaying every kitten thing in this game again just to play an Engineer, or Mesmer.
7. Underwater fighting WTB depth perception , more useful skills, more interesting fights, more reason to go in the water in the first place.
8. Too much dialog in living/personal story: If I wanted to read, I would buy a book – cut scenes needs to be able to be skipped at least after the first time thru.
9. The new daily system: Why am I doing these again? What am I achieving? View a vista and gain some XP, I’m level 80, I got experience from doing this the first time through. If you want me to do them again, why not just make them repeatable? Do 3 tasks get 10 achievement points, okie dokie that’s less time consuming then before, even less of an achievement, for the same amount of points. Why bother doing any after completing 3? There is no reward from them that I can’t get from doing something more fun. Where is the variety? The dailies seem to be on a 2 day rotation of the same things.
10. No Guild Halls, nor sense of guild unity. Guild Missions were a step in the right direction, but we need more. We need more stuff allowing us to play together, not just stand next to each other soloing a target. Stupid megaservers destroyed our culture. You removed our borders, and left us as a nationality without a nation. There are times before a guild event we gather together for announcements and acclamations’, and after a major undertaking we need a place to call our own. I would love a centralized place to organize the crap in my inventory (see point #1)
good post and thanks for sharing your thoughts!
the legends are true!
this program is only going to work if you do the following…
1. start being transparent.
2. open a public testing realm.
3. actually start pumping out aaa quality content, updates, fixes, changes… on a regular basis.anything short of the above three will be seen as another stalling tactic (cdi) while the game remains substantial development starved and we are constantly given the “umm, we can’t talk about it again”.
1. Up to personal interpretation.
2. Highly debatable benefit, keeping the costs in mind.
3. Up to personal interpretation. What you’re asking for sounds good on paper but is not achievable.
there are other game companies (that earn more yearly) who communicate better and are way more transparent.
there is already a testing realm in existence.
there are other game companies (that earn less yearly) that are more aggressive with development and pump out more meaningful content and qol features.
not only do my comments sound good on paper, they would be really good if implemented.
Hardly any new content?!!!!!!!!! look at what other Sub based MMO’s (looking at you WoW) put out in their first 2 years and GW2 is either on par with them or blows them out of the water. All for free!!
And if you think GW2 is exceptionally buggy then you must be new to the MMO genre. It’s about the same with any other MMO I have played. Especially with new patches.
In 2 yrs wow had an expansion not some gimmick LS
Every game is buggy, but anet takes forever to fix them.“The game was released on November 23, 2004, on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise. The first expansion set of the game, The Burning Crusade, was released on January 16, 2007.” – Wikipedia
So about 2 years and 2 months and they were charging you about $180 a year for 2 years ($360) with no updates what-so-ever.
Yes, I think most of us want an expansion and if by this time next year we still have no news of one I might grab a pitchfork and join you. But for now they have been doing a good job pushing out content free of charge.
The great thing about no sub fee is if you want to take a break from the game you are not burning any money! Play something else and come back to unlock your LS. It’s a win-win. All my games are B2P and I love them that way.
b2p and free of charge while not burning money players do not feed the development machine as can be clearly seen with this game. sorry, but the gem store alone won’t help move this game forward and has not in 2 years so something has to change.
-hardly any new content
-too slow to solve issues
-buggy
etc
Its obvious they cant afford a quality game with the current direction.
an optional sub would probably be the best thing for this game and the players in the long run.
As you will see in the News and Announcements Sub-Forum, we are introducing a new program for the forums. Please review the announcement and post any question you may have here.
Thank you.

edit-additionally, i don’t know why a program like this would be necessary considering we have been told that the developers read the forums despite lack of comments.

Stuff. What is stuff? Stuff is a broad concept, and may include, among other stuff, such stuff as:
- creating Days of Our Lives Online! Which would be the coolest stuff ever.
- daily Elvis lookalike contests
- playing Golvellius on Sega Master System emulators
- mounted precursor dueling
- bunny juggling
- turtle races
- redesigning more perfectly fine existing systems not in need of redesigning
So until we know precisely what ‘stuff’ they are working on, I recommend we maintain an elevated degree of non-assumptive behavior, because, given previous deliveries of stuff, the stuff being worked on may not be quite the stuff we’d hoped for.
It doesn’t actually matter. Not when people on these forums are saying Anet is saying nothing because they’re not working on anything.
Now we don’t know what this stuff is. But since you have any number of people saying Anet is only doing the living story and working on nothing else and you have a guy that’s there saying there’s more being worked on, I’ll think I believe him.
Your post would be relevant if multiple people haven’t already said in different threads that Anet isn’t talking because Anet has nothing to talk about.
But people have said that. This is the answer to that.
Anet is not talking because Anet is not talking. Having nothing to do with what they may or may not be working on.
Tachenon’s post was just as relevant as yours.
@vayne
question that you ignored… why do you think anet is so tight lipped about development while other games are more transparent through public testing realms and communicate openly about potential or in the works development?
also…
Vayne to Tachenon “Your post would be relevant”…
Swagger to Vayne “Tachenon’s post was just as relevant as yours.”
Vayne to Swagger “In your opinion”
Kaiyanwan to Vayne (too big to quote but basically saying that unknowns are irrelevant)
Vayne to Kaiyanwan “It’s not irrelevant to me, it may be irrelevant to you and that’s okay. You don’t get to judge what’s irrelevant to other people.”…
this is not a personal attack, just wanted to say that you are not superior to anyone here on the forums. if you want to make a thread then be prepared to have different views that are related to the topic. I understand if there is a comment that is off topic and completely unrelated, but you cannot sit there in your chair and be a hypocritical relevancy judge and jury to suit your needs.
yes, my question is related to your op.
I made a thread about one thing. People are bringing up other things. Those things may be relevant to them. They have nothing to do with what I’m saying. It really is that simple.
Many of those people have a dislike for me from many other threads and no matter what I post, they’ll jump on it. It almost doesn’t matter.
So forgive me for not taking what each of them says at face value. I don’t, and neither should you.
then you have to think about what you are doing to generate such responses from the community at large here on the forums.
my question still remains unanswered…

The point of this topic, simply put, is to stop people from saying that Anet isn’t announcing anything because they’re not working on anything.
If you want to say Anet doesn’t listen to you that’s perfectly fine. I don’t listen to people all the time either, because I have my own ideas. I listen to people who give me suggestions that fit the ideas I already had, but not people who don’t really understand where I’m coming from (of which there are many).
Anet listens to some people and not to others, because some people have better ideas than others, some people are more attuned to what the game was designed to be than others and some people suggest things that are too hard to program or too expensive to implement.
I think whether or not Anet listens to or doesn’t listen to people is off topic here.
But if people are saying that Anet really isn’t working on anything, and there are only a few people working there, well, this is their answer.
I don’t know why any new information would be pointless, unless of course you’re scared of what that information suggests.
your post will not stop players from communicating their thoughts and feelings. anet leaves most players no choice but to speculate because of the lack of transparency. your op and the quote do nothing except create more speculation and controversy.
question time… why do you think anet is so tight lipped about development while other games are more transparent through public testing realms and communicate openly about potential or in the works development?
I’m sure people will keep saying anything, but there are reasonable people out there reading this post who can now more easily dismiss those claims. Obviously something is being worked on, unless this journalist is lying.
So people might see people say that and shrug and move on…because now there’s something to show as a counterpoint (as opposed to just logic which worked before for some). This should help others make more educated decisions about posts that pretty much make stuff up.
well thank you for making an attempt to help with community relations.
so about that question I asked…

In your opinion. However since I made the first post, and I say his post pretty much ignores my point, we’ll have to agree to disagree.
My post doesn’t have the problems he’s pointing out because the issues with it he has have nothing to do with my intention.
we are all entitled to our opinions…
you are entitled to disagree, but his/her post was relevant and interrelated to the topic at hand and didn’t warrant a “relevancy” tag.

well, i suppose i am talking about gold, the most basic currency in guild wars 2.
because, with gold, one can buy gems, and then purchase lots of shinies off the gem store. also helping with the gem price inflation, helping anet profit in the process.
first, rewards do not make for a good pvp experience. they can throw all the rewards they want, but it will not fix the roots of the problems.
second, converting gold to gems does not help anet in any way.
you want pvers coming to pvp? you need to improve professions. add new game modes. work on stuff like conditions, stealth and over the top burst abilities. raise the ttk so players are not getting decimated in seconds. all professions need to have a similar feel and controls without the gimmicky and awkward mechanics. bunch of other stuff…
(edited by Swagger.1459)
2 ways to do it and both options would be welcome…
lvl 80 played character passes off portions of xp to designated offline character under 80.
I would like an option to disable the voice and pop up text box. Both are annoying and distracting.
So I just got around to watching this weeks Points of Interest (the supposedly PvE ‘show’) and they add a segment basically trying to entice players into pvp.
Is the pvp population hurting so badly that they need that transfusion of warm bodies?
If this isn’t the case are we going to see PvE related balance in Ready Up? I doubt it, but what do you all think of this?Watch for yourselves http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/c/5452233
have not watched it yet, but if so, I am extremely disappointed that they would be pushing pvp under these current profession and combat designs instead of improving these two main areas first.
I have been playing for about a year.
The opinions of vets are ofcourse valued, but I think there needs to be more good news stories about this game. I wanted the wider community and Anet to know that theres plenty of us that really love GW2 and appreciate the work behind it.
There will always be haters and those who are bitter, but the other side of the coin needs to see the light of day sometimes too
This.
Sometimes I am bitter about changes that are made to content I am comfortable with to my detriment, but GW2 is enjoyable, the combat system is innovative, the world is beautiful, the lore is engaging and I have fun playing.
Plus the dev team listens on big issues rather quickly.
The only caveats I have are the content pace and the approach to balancing the devs take. But seeing as how no game can be perfect, I can easily deal as they do their best.
Ps: psst. Violin > Gramaphone.
How is the “combat system innovative”?
What “big issues were handled rather quickly” by anet?
How does anet “do their best” despite your “caveats”?

- For the Beastmaster; Remove the ability to weaponswap for the ranger. Give that ranger more pets to tame (and skills with it). Make those pets compensate for the lack of weaponswapping. BM traitline is avaliable for this ranger.
- For the true “Archer”; Keep the ability to swap weapons. This removes the pet compleatly. The lack of pets could be compensated with a slight overall boost (except for to the LB wich is good enough since the last patch). This ranger has no BM traitline. (maybe another traitline for “dual wielders” or something)
The desicion on what kind of ranger u want to run could be decided in character Creation (a permanent on-time-choice), or in any major Town. Swapping between the two modes on the field (in OOC mode) would give too much diversity to the ranger compared to other classes I think.
Thoughts?
Interesting, but how about we improve both pets and rangers and provide an option to stow pets instead?
I appreciate the value of constructive feedback but the online GW2 community just seems so ungrateful and unappreciative
Just think of the negative image you are portraying for new/potential players. I think more people should know how great this game really is.
If I was Anet and I read all the crap people complain about I would find it a little disheartening. So I’m posting for the first and only time to say the following:
Anet, I love this game and I think you guys have done a fantastic job. Thank you for all your hard work! Dont forget there are people that really appreciate this game and work thats gone in to it.
New & Potential players, come and give this game a shot and decide for yourself if you like it
Don’t get caught up in the negativity of some people . The complainers are the loudest voices but there is a great community in this game if you give it a try.
-happy GW2 player
so what makes this such a great game?
how has anet done a fantastic job with this game over the past 2 years?
Your computer is possessed. Spray the insides with holy water.
Works every time!
Dating is confusing to new players.
I knew there was something missing from the npe patch notes!
I
Guild Wars 2 on the other hand does really poor job at selling useful things:And yet Guild Wars 2 does make enough money in order for ArenaNet to avoid a rather massive layoff involving all other studios owned by NCSoft.
Not sure this is a fun commend or not.
At least you can’t be serious.
The only reason why A-Net is still alive is that they let almost everyone go and
outsource as much as they can.
That also explains why GW2 as a product looks so disconnected from the customers
or their former glory.Let me quote from employees NOT MADE UP BY ME
QUOTE:
- Severe reliance on contract/outsourced positions completely tanks morale across virtually every department.
- Resources are spread too thin. Nothing seems like a real priority
- Most of the upper management seems disconnected from their employees and the customers
- Compensation: ArenaNet has always paid below the industry standard for most, if not all, of its positions.
- Salaries have not only lagged behind, but opportunities to advance have also been greatly reduced.
END QUOTEOn top we have the income report that clearly shows that they had a little peak in 2013 but in general lose about 3 million to the former quarter.
Like we all read GW2 is not under the top revenue games any longer. How do you read out of these informations that A-Net makes enough to keep the employees and deliver a descent product is far beyond me and totally delusional.
Fact is that they did bet on odd horses and lost.
LS was more than a foreseeable failure and the fact that they stick to it instead deliver expansions has more to do with the financial situation.
They simply can’t switch anymore even if they wanted.I know most people “dream” of a hidden secret expansion project that will pop out of nowhere.
But sadly all of the relevant numbers speak against that.
A-Net isn’t announcing something epic because there is nothing to announce.Simple plain and very sad
Very—informative—post—Kurrilino.2706.
any plans to improve on profession designs and combat systems besides more
trait changes and emphasis on gear?
Here are my issues with rewards…
•Game releases and we got the “cosmetic only grind” spiel which became a statistic grind.
•You can purchase bis legendary gear off the bltc, but you can’t purchase lesser in function ascended gear.
•Ascended weapons and armor were introduced and we were told prior to release that it’s going to be "a small stat increase with the focus on zero grind. I don’t think anyone with half a brain equates “focus on zero grind” with forced crafting and massive gold sink.
•New rewards coming out are nothing more than grinding out bits and pieces so you can buy or spend more gold on crafting said item(s).
Here are my issues with the development team that provides the rewards…
•Overall, and in every area of the game, there appears to be what I would call dartboard development or intentional experimenting all at the cost of customer good will. Random and unfinished things are tossed into the game and remain incomplete while you (anet) move on to the next big random and unfinished “thing”.
•The developers come out and make a pr statement about rewards (among other things) that completely contradict what is actually under development or being implemented.
•The real issue now is that anet can’t or won’t come up with other forms of rewarding gold sinks so they tie it in with gear acquisition (aka forced gear crafting), mystic forge gambling or dangling the precursors and legendaries carrots on the bltc as an option to bypass the annoying grind. As long as these remain without other options, players will always be given an unrewarding “reward” experience and rewards.
*typed this from my phone with distractions, but I hope my points came across.
(edited by Swagger.1459)
Top level “rewards” (that all require crafting) are designed for players to buy gems to convert and for gold sinks. “Rewards” are never going to change under the f2p model.
I would like to see less discussion and more action from anet.
@Orpheal.
Would you please stream some videos on twitch of you in spvp, tpvp and wvw on your ranger and show us exactly how they are overpowered?
i would like to see less communication and more quality patches…
What is not fine in the other hand, is the signet of stone and of the wild. Giving 6 sec to a class that can go brainless and down you in those 6 sec is the real culprit. Also the signet of the wild should be “shave” to a lesser amount than 25% like 5-10%.
This is my sight of the current ranger and i’m also maining LB ranger and have 900h in it. Any class that can down people in 6 sec should be down in 6 sec if overplayed. So either tone down defensive (aka invincibility) or tone down dmg.
In that particular case, toning down dmg of the longbow would cripple any non-full glass longbow builds. And nerfing survivability of the ranger would effectively require much more skills to achieve the same result.
Thats what I think folks! Let me know if I’m wrong!
why nerf signets when “the ranger class has little to no use in high competitive tpvp. Why ranger have little to no use in WvW? Why is the ranger outscaled by thief in roaming when it supposed to be the ranger strenght? Why high lvl PVE dislike ranger because their small contribution to the party?”
And dont say ranger is a jack of all trades… Engi is. Ranger is subpar in every gw2 mode except maybe solo pve (which a class should not be design for…)."
also, if anyone dies to a ranger in six seconds then that’s their problem…
(edited by Swagger.1459)
How to make a better wvw (pve and spvp too) experience…
Step 1- Take a few lessons from gw1 and city of heroes profession designs.
Step 2- Design interesting and rewarding objectives for small “strike force” teams to complete so we have something fun and meaningful to do instead of zerg stacking and door bashing while breaking #1 and F our keyboards.
Sorry, not trying to sound negative, but after 2 years I’m a bit disappointed that we are still in the info gathering stage. I’m sure many players would rather see patch notes with meaningful changes and additions made instead of this.
Best of luck.

GW2 is not an MMORPG. It is, maybe a MMOFPS. There is no RPG in GW2 because there is no freedom to create anything other than cookie cutter toons. And at that there is a desire to make all classes the same. Take away the holy-trinity and every toon just becomes same old same old.
GW1 had WAY more RPG to it, way more Co-op and WAY more community.
GW1 had a ton of cookie cutter toons, you load a build from a template code and you were ready to go. GW2 has more flexiblity because any class can be any part of the (former) holy trinity. Guardians can be tanks, healers, or dps; Same with other classes, there are even new combinations people are coming up with. GW1 was more restricted IMO following the holy trinity model.
Gw2 has the the least meaningful and impactful build diversity, flexibility and customization I’ve ever experienced. It’s a shame that a aaa game company like nc and anet has such a poor profession system. If I were a modern day developer or company, I would be embarrassed to release (and not improve on) such a terrible character system for customers.
Also, it’s pretty sad that I can play most of the game with autoattacks, dodge rolls and a self heal. Wvw is more complex because I have to press f to pick up my loot while trying to stick with a zerg. I’m not even going to bother mentioning the bad joke that is spvp encounters. The only redeeming and interesting quality to combat is that we can move and attack.
Overall, this game belongs on a console because it’s not worthy for a PC.
Anet should run an adopt-a-dev for gw1 program so the team can experience all the things that players loved and give them a better development direction.
Thank you for these thoughts. If these ideas have already been brought up before I did not seem them and so I am replying in this thread instead of the possible past threads.
(1) If we want the camera to point down at a sleeping character we would need the camera to know about the emote happening. On top of this right now, from my understanding, most players who do screenshots use /sleep in order to get their character out of the frame. If we were to change this functionality we would want to give players another alternative to hide their character.
(2) I personally like this idea.
(3) How close is closer?
(5) Camera orientation changing seems like it would be very jaring when in combat. I would be curious to hear your ideas for a control scheme for this.
(5b) Would this be like a ‘lock on target’ look-at?
Can we get the option to zoom out the camera a lot more (see shadow behemoth) so we can reduce the seizure causing effects, headaches and eye strain?
1. Less talk and more action.
2. When you do say something, make sure you mean it.
On ascended gear… “We do intend to focus on horizontal but we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve.”
The above quote can be considered as flat out lie which makes your team lose even more trust with players.
3. Be flexible. If something isn’t working out then acknowledge it to the community and adjust/fix it.
4. My personal impression is that the management here needs to be improved because there seems to be a huge disconnect. True leaders keep their fingers on the pulse, but I don’t see that here judging by patch notes.
Thanks for reading
CDI threads are/were a waste of time. Things are going to be done according to anets plan regardless of input. I strongly suggest you all stop providing profession feedback to save yourself a lot of frustration.
Please this is a game, not real life. Keep this drama out of Guildwars.
The drama has already begun.
I’m sure they will add in marriage right after Kas and Maj get hitched.
General breakdown of gw2 “balance” based off of past and current experiences..
Claim to have a really great and supermegaawesome profession and combat system.
Do nothing substantial to improve professions and combat for 2 years.
Make CDI threads and ready up videos as pr stunts to quell the masses carrying torches and pitchforks.
Slip in forum posts basically saying that the devs had/have a plan of action already in the works and are glad that some player ideas coincide with what little was going to happen regardless of feedback.
Send emails basically telling players to l2p the professions and combat because this is as good as things are going to get.
Keep pumping out living story while making lots of tool tip and minimal changes that won’t make much of a difference.
Intentionally squander a potentially very good profession and combat system because upper management only cares about maximizing profits by reinvesting very little. also, you can’t itemize and sell profession and combat improvements on the bltc so this area is at the bottom of the post it note pile.
even though this team still does not handle profession development well, at least we got something.
hopefully by next year we will get some major improvements across all professions, include those “awesome things for rangers” we have been waiting for.
As an active rper, I have only a vague idea what you are complaining about. In fact, referencing rp is of little help here as personal styles and preferences may vary along several axes, for example story railroading and sandbox play.
Since you sound like you like your railroad train hootin’ and tootin’ tight, I kinda can see from where you’re coming, seeing how we got provided with an (actual) sandbox so far.
But on the other hand: What urgency is there? So Modremoth might be up to something. The what, the how, and the where to strike aren’t known yet, and research takes time. Meanwhile the other dragons continue their siege of Tyria.
Most events in Dry Top are aimed at rescuing Zephyrites and preserving their secrets from the natural causes and the grasping hands of the Inquest. Which is – no, has to be – a higher priority than constantly prodding Taimi to quicken her research so you can have a go at Modremoth, because without Glint’s legacy all may be lost, regardless.
i’m going to explain my stance like this…
a dragon is awake. there are dead bodies scattered all over dry top. the story elements and events continue to be subpar. we are fighting recycled giants and chasing after tornadoes carrying chickens for bits of rocks and sand to up the level of rewards so we can (yet again) craft more loot. that’s pretty meh for a aaa game with a talented team of developers and a great budget.
i don’t know about you, but the content and storytelling has been less than stellar. sorry, but engaging storytelling is not one of anets strong suits and that can clearly be seen from the onset with the personal story and the battle against the dreaded zhaitan. if you were to remove loot and achievements from ps and ls, hardly anyone would participate in the content or story for content and story sake.
i’m glad you like it enough to be aware of what’s going on, but i’m not alone in saying that i still feel completely disengaged at this point. ultimately, i’m asking for more meaningful and engaging content and story if they have 3/4 teams of people working on pumping it out every 2 weeks. that’s it. not much more to figure out or niggle about.
Despite the snark and thinly-veiled insults, I’m sure anyone will listen to you.
Whatever criticism you may have included in your posts, it’s well-disguised as a spit in the face.
sorry that you read it that way, but you’re wrong. i provided a fair and honest assessment of things without the sugar coating.
as a former rper, i feel zero sense of urgency from this zone content besides getting to the event on time for a chest and am (and have been) completely disengaged from anything story related so far. we have a mighty and dangerous dragon (who can slay gods mind you) that is waking up and we are playing around in a glorified jumping puzzle with a bunch of silly mini events that are mostly focused on earning pieces of stuff for loot we have to craft. i know this is just the start of ls2, but i personally feel that anet needs to get their heads out of the sand and start producing more meaningful zone and story content if they plan on continuing to invest more labor and resources into ls while professions and combat remain stale and stagnant.
As a former RPer, I’d laugh at your attempts to RP if you thought that, given the stage of the story we’re at, you’d be able to rush ahead to your goal.
Do your characters when you RP tend to know everything about what you’re fighting, where you’re going, and how to win?
Because the stage the story is at, that’s what we’re trying to find out. There’s no sense of urgency because we can’t really do anything until we find out more about what we’re supposed to do it to. The most we can do right now is react, not act.
It’d be a terrible story if we just knew exactly what to do and where to go and didn’t need to find anything out first.
i’m sure you were an amazing rper who could put me in my rping place with your superior rp skills, but i don’t think you get what I’m talking about. the point of my post was to say that the ls content continues to be subpar and needs to be improved. anet has generated more sense of urgency and care for loot related things and finishing timed events as opposed to ls zone and story content. if you were to remove loot and achievements from the equation, the ls updates would be dead on arrival.
also, If anet plans to neglect and underfund other important areas of the game in lieu of the ls, the least they could do is create quality zone and storytelling updates.
You mean you’re annoyed that they’re spending time on giving people things to do in between story chapters instead of attempting to shove the entire story at us immediately?
I have an idea if you want to get your point across. How about some specifics instead of a general “it sucks, make it better”? I’m sure a former RPer like you can eloquently state your specific concerns and suggestions for improvement.
no, i’m saying that the “things to do” are not good enough from a purely content and storytelling point of view and should be improved.
i never mentioned or hinted at wanting them to “shove the entire story at us immediately”.
thanks, but i’m content with my general statements.
