I know that this is about a month old, and that this post has already gotten Dev attention — but I feel the need to chime in anyways. I had to even re-set my password to say this.

I don’t play Guild Wars 2 anymore, and it’s for every single reason that is highlighted in the OP

I also don’t plan on playing regularly again until these things are addressed.

I log on and peruse the forums every now and then because I want guild wars to be what I thought it would be SO BADLY. I have great memories from this game and I remember the feeling of grandeur it filled me with because of all of the possibilities. Instead, I was left frustrated and disappointed for the reasons highlighted in the OP. The feedback was so on point without being condescending or insulting — it spoke directly of the facts, and that’s why I was drawn in.

Thanks a lot for being a voice of the community of sorts MonMalthias. At least I know you were speaking for me when you made this post.

Here’s to hoping it is taken very seriously by the management (and then subsequently bleeds down to the devs). If it’s not, I will likely never play again, and I fear other players may start to follow suit.

I thought that is precisely what they were doing by ignoring all of the irrational complaining about condition damage. They see almost every poster here makes some unfounded general complaint without offering a shred of evidence or reasonable argument for their opinion. As well they read all of the rude comments making implications as Anet employees, after they specifically stated that they ignore feedback from those who make such comments.

Thus, by ignoring your comments based on those perimeters, they are very specifically doing their jobs.

It’s not the players job to reevaluate, fix, maintain and improve this game. Those responsibilities fall on the shoulders of the ones who get paid to do it.

I also don’t get why they can’t make balance changes more often. If it’s broken, if players give accurate feedback regarding balance, why not fix it and release it in at least a week?

The problem is, players don’t give accurate feedback. I mean take this forum as an example. Many players show, that they do not correctly understand mechanics. And ANet is supposed to listen to this?

No, they have to do their own tests. And this takes time. Condition damage is prevalent these days, because many players don’t know how to counter them and/or run selfish builds (Not all of them, but many).

Or how about, ya know, the developers do the job that they are paid to do…

Theives can indeed be counter played

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls
Today were going to discuss thief in a way that is educated and respectful. So please keep the Q.Q and rage to a minimum.

I understand the hot topic it seems is that because a class has absurd acsess to stealth that it makes them invincible, this is true but at the same time false. The extremely high stealth uptime build usually involve a dagger or sword main hand (all do). You say how there is no counter play to backstab, when I ASSURE YOU there is. Let’s go down the list for a moment.
THIEVES HAVE LOW TO NO STABILITY ACSESS
Which means if you have a fearline, warding line, or anything that knocks you down you will make them unable to backstab you in stealth until that line disapates or they will blow a stun break in order to reach you, either shadowstep, roll for initiative or infiltraitors signet. Which is a win for you every time a thief blows a utility is a small victory. Because despite common beleif, theives do not have unlimited amounts of shadowsteps. Another good counter play is using ambients or animals in wvw as a way to block the stab. In spvp the best way to counter thief hanks is by trying to take unpredictable motions, theives are a lot less likely to gank you in areas with not a lot if room to maneuver. If you simply position yourself in such a way where you are less of a threat, they will seek a better target. Also in spvp and wvw, the best tip I can give is first of all is Follow these 3 steps theives don’t want you to know

1. For the love of God we hate stun breaks.
Seriously, if you have good stun breaks basi venom will suck a lot less. Theives have one stun, 3 dazes, lots of immobilize, 1 pull, and one knockdown. Theives get good SOFT CC but not a lot of hard CC. If you run maybe 1 or two stun breaks for that basi venom which by the way you can see if a thief has it on them you can avoid it using anti-stealth methods.
2. We hate AOE so utilize our Kitten me Here" circle.
Shadow Refuge is absurd awesome and strong, but it has a weakness, if you get knocked out if it you are revealed, it also means that we are confined to a circle for you to blast away in with all of your conditions and meteors and anything that hits hard. If you get us low enough we will reset the fight and that counts as a victory for you.
Or if you don’t it means we are about to move in after healing up a tad in order to probably backstab or basi backstab you. In which case get your active damage medigation ready and the second you see a block or an evaded on your screen, you know EXCACTLY where the thief is. He is behind you. Or if he doesn’t attack you for awhile and you go out of combat, look for a white circle on the ground. It means that he has shadow stepped away and you can predict where he will reappear as soon as that circle reappears you know where he is.

3. Learn to predict and know our utilities and traites. Just go on the wiki and take a cruise around. Look at the SA trait line and what else we have. I assure you your class has a way to best theives, just get creative

I hope I helped everyone learn a little more why thieves why yes are annoying but we aren’t invincible and are indeed killable. We can be outdone if you are smart. And perma stealth build are low dps especially now that this patch has destroyed most backstab builds.

Regardless, stealth play and counter play have been poorly implemented. Among other things like conditions and extreme burst in spvp and wvw, stealth needs an overhaul for the long term health of this game and player retention. I know some of you may not agree, but I came from a game where combat was 10x faster and everyone had access to toggle abilities like stealth, invisibility and a 60 second emergency “oh crap” untouchable state power called phase. Phase was changed later in the games life cycle to where those under the same state could attack each other which balanced it out better. With that experience in mind, and years of pvping with and against those types of mechanics, I can safely say that anet needs to make some serious changes to these major issues plaguing the spvp and wvw meta.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback but bearbow is still OP. Today a ranger had 2 bows and 2 bears on fast weapon and animal swap. This is just broken and needs a Nerf.

I think I was wearing a cleric amulet, with 13k hp. I’m amazed Anet allows that type of skill to stay as it is.

For the longest time I also was amazed that Anet has ignored this. I’m not surprised anymore after watching a few twitch episodes. Being trolled by a player is one thing. Being trolled by the developer is another.

WHY ANET? My only source of income is gone. Life is not worth living anymore. But seriously, this was not even clear in the patch notes. This patch went ahead without the approval of the community. I’m sure this is devastating to everyone! How can anet change something so drastic and not ask the community how they would feel about the train being removed. This change is so drastic, it needs democracy and opinions of others.

I haven’t played GW2 for nearly a year now.

I thoroughly enjoyed most of the game; I have a couple 80’s and some fairly high PvP-rank characters. Very close to world completion, high level crafting skills, etc.

I decided to see how the game has come in the past months and fired it up again; after a large amount of patching, a good bit of nostalgia, and a couple of hours, I found myself in a state of déjà vu; I got that same feeling of “there’s really nothing to do” again.

How could this be? Months of content and patches being added but still there’s seemingly nothing to do.

Well, it got me thinking. I really like the structure of the game; it’s got a ton of potential and the ANet team seems very proactive when it comes to their game. It’s just a matter of direction, if you ask me.

Here’s some of my concerns, take them for what they are; I’m sure many people agree as well as disagree and think I’m an idiot.

• The loot isn’t fun. There’s very little variation when it comes to items, besides aesthetics. While leveling up this isn’t too much of an issue, it kind of dulls the experience at max level. Sure, I don’t have full Ascended gear, but I’m also not very compelled to put a ridiculous amount of time and effort into getting them due to one, these items don’t really have a meaningful impact on gameplay, and two, there’s no gameplay that really merits them.

• Nobody really does dungeons; they skip them. If people are going out of their way to skip content, don’t you think there might be something wrong with the content? Most dungeons contain too much filler and lack real “loot” for your efforts; that doesn’t create a challenging, rewarding, nor immersing dungeon experience.

• Build diversity and overall balance could be much better. Nowadays, it seems like nobody likes you unless you’re full Berserker, using your classes “best” weapon. Doesn’t that seem a little strange to anyone? If balancing between PvE and PvP is difficult, why not just balance them separately?

• World events should be more… worldly. Off the top of my head, one of my favorite world events is when that huge Giant runs over that low-level Charr town in one of their zones. I like that event because there’s repercussions for not dealing with him; your town is pretty much useless. What good are world events that really don’t have any weight within the world around them? Would be pretty fun if towns getting attacked was more of a regular thing; it makes the world seem more dangerous.

Living story content is great and all, but shouldn’t the focus be on content that’s fun and repayable? I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather see:

? Added a new zone where players fight the native clans for control over rare, natural resources!
- Rare and bountiful resources that appear randomly throughout the map are guarded by powerful monsters!
- Monsters periodically assault player hubs; the attacks never stop!

Than…

? Some kitten with a giant robot spawned in the middle of the mountains somewhere; go kill it if you’re bored and looking for somthing to do.

I can agree in reference to PvE only.

I cannot agree in sPvP or WvW though. I find it hard to justify making players skills and functions diminish or be negated by immunity as a over all game mechanic.

It is much more reasonable to stop immobilize from stacking. You should not be able to be immobilized until the one on you currently wears off or is broken. The same would be acceptable for knock backs and other similar stuns too. So you cannot be shot around like a football. You could simply be unaffected until you either stun break and are back on your feet or the one currently effecting you wears off.

The other suggestion for diminishing returns and immunity doesn’t do anything other then cause more problems by making skills lose their value or negate their value on a passive basis. The passive basis is a horrible game mechanic in my eyes. Just like stone skin and Automated response (and that is saying a lot as engineer is my preferred profession and ele is my 3rd in line)……….This is a game designed to be about movement and reaction in battle, and as I see it, anything that is passive and not reactive is counter intuitive to game design and promoted lazy game play.

Players have been down this road before with other games. Being a fan of “stun lock” in a pvp environment shows your overall pvp inexperience and/or immaturity. Players like you are not interested in creating a positive pvp environment that is inviting and encouraging for more people to get involved and stick around.

There are a number of issues plaguing the meta and conditions/crowd control are one of them. To think otherwise is foolish. If you think I’m wrong, or if you need your often requested facts, then all you need to do is look at the extremely low participation level in spvp and the lack of veteran and high level teams playing.

I never mentioned such a thing and I won’t get into any personal attacks. It would be a healthy change in the already overwhelming condition meta.

in any case immobilize should either break on certain dmg threshold or number of hits or max out at 5 seconds (enough to burst down anyone).

Then explain how it is out of control. Why are you unable to handle a single players immobilize that you feel the need to complain about it?

In PvE I agree that it shouldn’t really be stacking to 15s but in WvW for example I am okay with it as it would be from different sources. Immobilize is easy to break, and it would take multiple targets to stack it to high.

As far as all this other talk, I do not understand why everyone is attempting to drag this thread off topic. Other cc is irrelevant to this discussion. The title and the OP are about immobilize.

Is it really necessary to have things continuously over explained to you?

I agree, immobilize should not stack in pve where players are forced to face off against highly adaptable and deadly AI.

Immobilize is part of the condition/control meta, so it’s ok to bring up overarching issues because they are all related.

Considering that anet wants to utilize open world for zerg content, a mega server makes sense. Also, having a mega server saves them some headaches (face too) of having to close, merge or maintain multiple individual servers. There will definitely be benefits to mega servers, but I foresee profession growth and development suffering greatly because there will not be a need to evolve the most important aspect of the game when the majority of playtime will be running in a zerg using your auto attack with a few gimmicks tossed in to beat mega bosses. All in all, mega servers will give a whole new meaning to the phrase “zerg wars 2” so I think we should start using “mega zerg wars 2” instead.

what is the reasoning behind gear only affecting 3 of 7 stats (besides celestial)?

my suggestion…
I’d like to see an increase in the number of affected attributes by rarity. example below.

*basic- 3 attributes
*fine- 3 attributes
*masterwork- 4 attributes
*rare- 4 attributes
*exotic- 5 attributes
*ascended- 5 attributes
*legendary- 5 ascended level attributes that are interchangeable

Its insane how few builds some classes have like elementalists have…

Guardians (my main) i just don’t even know what to do with, (wvw mostly, i dont like that pvp makes me earn my armor looks over and they could have ballenced pvp armor stats around pve armor stats (yes and up-graded the ones that werent max level) (and keep some skills ballenced for pvp/pve)

They are hopefully going to have this fixed on the 15th of April. I am waiting for this to happen as well. =)

Psychology: Dislike for Long Term PvP Goals?

Long term goals aren’t a bad thing. Even after the re-balance, it will take the average player a very long time to reach 80 and will still be the long term goal for most people.

It’s important to have goals for different time commitments. Short term goal could be reward tracks or some skins. Medium term goals could be season rewards and a ladder. Long terms goals could be a legendary, rank 80 (for most people) or possibly multi-season rewards and yearly tournaments.

What kind of long-term rewards would people like to see? Maybe a rank 80 ‘prestige’ system is something to explore.

Fwiw…

Having awesome professions and combat systems (see city of heroes for archetype designs, customization, diversity, build options and flexibility, play and counter play, …, … for reference) with a development team devoted to continuously improving these aspects are the most valuable rewards. Y’all can give away all the virtual rewards, titles and finishers in the game world, but it’s not going to make the current subpar professions and combat systems better.

I DO NOT want the borderlands and EB to end up like Eotm. EotM isn’t WvW, it is just a 95% karma train. eotm is a PVE map. I still want to fight for my server. I would not want to be a “green” or “overgrowth” and fight against “blue” “red”. if this happens. then wvw will most likely be ruined…

Whats the quickest way to lvl up? I will create a warrior for pve and farming and another character for pvp. So which places give the best loot and xp?

Ride the champ train with your warrior. Go wvw and/or spvp with another character if you really want, but I would take your warrior (anet’s golden child). Then go unlock your waypoints at 80 when you get bored of farming and pvp.

No – classes need specific weapons. A Bow and Sorcerer I thought would be neat until I tried it in ESO. (although ESO is a basic mistake MMO).

That is the thing about this game, if you don’t like it, leave. Then come back – burn out in any game is possible.

Ummm they are working on giving professions access to most if not all weapons. Some may not make sense if you look at things by tradition, but I’m sure they will cross a bunch of imaginary lines. Mesmer with a great sword and dual swords are a good example of breaking the old rules.

Just wait until you grind out your entire set of legendary armor and they play musical chairs with stats again. That’ll be fun.

Legendaries are being redesigned so that players can choose and change to different sets of ascended level stats when they are out of combat.

After all, abusing the mechanics of the game this way… it’s practically – dare I say it? – an exploit. And oh how they exploit. Can you imagine how new players feel when they come across these elitists? Oh! The shouting, the gnashing of teeth. Saying what to kill and what not to kill? What ever happened to playing how you want? Yes, these exploiters have had their heyday. And now it’s time to move on. Now we can get back to playing the game as intended. For fun. Just how I know you want it to be played, ANet. Killing everything in our path and not just leapfrogging from one prizebag of HPs to the next. Thank you for fixing these Champ Train exploits.

I don’t care either way, but using the the word exploit is pretty lol worthy.

It’s pretty lol worthy when that word is used to describe the use of berserker gear in dungeons but that happens all the time too.

Easy now, zerker gear is an exploit!!!

I feel like they WILL have an official response, but it will be more in lines with “Well, balancing is HAAAAAARD and it take a SUUUUUPER long time” lot’s of whining and excuse making instead of actions

Basically this ^^

I highly doubt anything meaningful will be done to improve professions and combat in this game. Sure, we will get more trait related stuff (again and again), a few new weapons for professions to use, but that’s probably about it. Aside from the die hards, most players will look back at this beautiful game with some interesting mechanics and say it was a waste of potential, playtime and $.

Anet should give cash refunds considering the locker feature was probably talked about a long time ago and work started on it after the wallet was implemented in August of last year.

Personally, I’d stop playing if I was in your position and didn’t get a refund.

First off, thank you for providing some stats behind the other day!

I should have been clearer in my original post as to why I brought it up and why I was upset. I did mention this later on in the thread, but one of my main concerns were players taking advantage of time sensitive loopholes to make a profit. Your post is great and clearly lays out what happened on the average over a 10 hour period of time, but were there any “lotto winners” so to speak from the buy and dump?

Offtopic: It would be pretty simple to code something like frost trap and vipers nest not overlapping with boon removal. The trait would act as a stipulation gateway so that when a trap is triggered, the trap acts normally, and then the trait that applies to it would activate during the pulse and remove 1 boon, then go on cooldown and become inactive for a second so that only one boon would be removed, and this would be done per pulse. It would essentially work like overlapping sigils with internal cooldowns currently works, like air and fire. Only one would activate, and then the sigils share a cooldown. So in this way, the traps would be sharing a common cooldown for the boon removal through the trap.

Back on topic: I like the idea flow, and can see that we definitely come to a common agreement about traps doing more direct damage and being able to trait to give them additional effectiveness beyond just potency.

Calling All Elite Players!

If you happen to be an elite player, Guild Wars 2 needs your help. As we all know, class balance is a very delicate and touchy subject. I read the class forums for every profession and it seem to me that every class feels like they are underpowered or missing some sort of necessary skill/utility. That’s where you come in. Now I know most people have a specific class that they like to stick to and that’s fine, but we need you to play other classes as well. The more good players we have playing more classes, the better. I feel like this will give more unbiased perspective for everyone playing a particular class and I’m sure the devs would appreciate this. As a person who plays his main only fractionally more than his alts, I wish I could be a part of this, but a shame I’m not anywhere close to being elite. So my challenge to you is to take a moment to stop destroying nubs in WvW or whatever it is that you do and roll a class that you haven’t played with yet. If you have played all the classes and you got 8 level 80s, then great! Tell us what you think! Do you have more trouble in one aspect of the game with a particular class than with another class? Not only am I curious about the results, but I’m sure other people are as well.

oh another I want anet to spoon feed me everything that will make me money thread. If people posted the dyes and didn’t get to pull them, then they got what they posted them for. They made money off of them. If people weren’t smart enough to look ahead and think for a few a bit they should wait to see what is up with dye. That is on them and them alone.
It sure gets old seeing all the QQ about tp, people don’t play the market smart, so they need a scapegoat. (ANET) Heaven forbid someone actually be responsible for THEIR own decisions.

That’s not what I’m saying, go read all of my posts. Also, I was at the computer yesterday morning when the news dropped and the window of opportunity for mass gain was at my fingertips. I chose not to do it out of principal.

I complain and bring up issues in hopes to see the game improve, but talk about toxic. I don’t know what’s worse, issues like this being treated lightly by development or players who carry your attitude. I’m likely not going to change either so I guess the only options are to not purchase gems, skip reporting gold sellers and exploiters like I have and not recommend any friends to play. I’ll use my entertainment dollars somewhere else while milking the free2play model that does not generate revenue because apparently nothing else works or makes a better statement.

for the record, I have no problem with John Smith and the team doing their job, I do have an issue with loopholes like this morning. additionally, I don’t like the 3rd party tp monitoring programs that encourage these behaviors either. these two things on the economic side add more reasons to not fork over real cash to support the game.

also, js and the crew are not reporting to their superiors on how finely tuned and balanced the game economy is or how many copper ores sold, they are reporting how gems sales went and what creative things are being done to generate more cash sales.

additionally, js is also a paid employee to generate gem sales for his company so naturally he would be in favor of higher prices that drain more gold out of the players hands to encourage more gem sales.

I have 0 problem funding a company, but I do take issues with loopholes that can be and are taken advantage of.

Because as you said, the market will find it’s equilibrium.
The value of those items is going to change as the methods for acquiring them change, that is as it should be. So if the market is going to find a new equilibrium on them then it’s working as intended.

yes, but the initial buy and sell manipulation still occurred. that is not fair or balanced for all customers/clients of this game. would my concern be different if say… at some point between the hours of 12pm-2pm on a particular random day there was a sale on gems that gave players who had an opportunity to log in at that specific time to gain 10x the amount of gems for the same price? no, I’d feel the same way.

from my perspective, anet takes the hands off to blame approach for the economy, but they are the ones who coded and maintain every aspect of the game so things like these become questioned. this is not a real world economy, its a fantasy game economy created and designed by a group of people who ultimately have the monopoly and gain the most.

what I’m speaking of is about treating your customers and clients the same and cutting out loopholes that make things unfair and unbalanced. personally to me, things add up and make me less likely to financially support a company who is more of an enabler to activities like these as opposed to one who tries to resolve them better.

from my current consumer prospective…

it was a lesson learned in how efficiently those who had the opportunity to log in at a particular time can manipulate the market for personal gain. occurrences like these can make players question whether or not to continue feeding the gem store with real currency to continue funding a company and their employees. so far there are no buying and reselling restrictions on the bltc besides how much gold you currently have and/or how many gems you have to convert.
