Mesmers are thinking Chronomancer brings about GW1 style builds like fast casting and lockdown.

No reason to think that GW1 Necro builds aren’t coming back also. (other than the fact that minion builds don’t dominate GW2 like GW1 and lifesteal is ummm terribad)

Now I got to go back to GW1 to look at all the different Necro builds to see which ones I’d like to see in GW2.

I’m looking at Mesmer wells mainly as a way for them to be added in the WvW zerg other than a veilbot. For PvP and PvE it’s just adds to what they already bring.

Since Mesmers are getting Alacrity, which is the opposite of chill, I feel that this is a chance for Anet to bring back one of the top Necro builds from GW1, the BiP Necro.

A BiP Necro was a support build that gave energy regeneration boosts to the party. This meant that the party could use skills faster, which Alacrity will do for Mesmers.

I can see a trait that says Necro wells provide Alacrity to allies or
whenever you use a spectral skill you give Alacrity to allies in an area…..

While I still think this is all one big collective waste of effort because the devs don’t give a kitten about this class, I’ll offer one small suggestion that would somewhat unkitten what is happening to us now.

Just the volume of replies and views should put this thread top on the devs’ “to read” list.

You might mention that fact and also compare the Necro forum specialization threads to those of the other classes.

I think that there was a thread the said that matchfixing, even in EotM was a bannable offense, but kill trading in OS for UD was fine, because OS doesn’t affect scores. EotM does give supply, which could affect WvW.

And we all know how hard it is for hackers, spies and siege griefers to operate in WvW.

I’m with several others here that Necro needs to be fixed BEFORE HoT.

Necro should have builds that are taken for stronghold, conquest and courtyard.
Necro meta shouldn’t be FOCUS THE NECROMANCER.
What changes prevent this?

Necro should have builds for fractals and dungeons.
Necros shouldn’t be kicked for being a Necro.
What changes provide party utility needed in dungeons?

How will the GS work with dagger, scepter and axe?

I’d like to have huge pectoral muscles, a refrigerator with a padlock on it and a meeellion dollars but I don’t cry about not having it.

I must be one of the rarest EotM players.

As a fearmancer, I really enjoy going 1vzerg. I don’t look at the map where our commander tag is, I look to see what just flipped so I can position myself in the path of the enemy zerg.

I don’t care if it’s a ktrain zerg or a guild group zerg. I’ll even build mortars and oil, use the supercannon or even use up supply just to slow trains down.

Just to clarify the thread, OP is talking about spammer, Sagat is talking about spamee.

OP is talking about war, ele and engi spamming large AoE.

Sagat is asking about which class does OP play that he can’t get out of AoE or clear conditions caused by AoE/Focus.

Way back in the days of arcade machines my initials were used by others so I ended up using AMY, DEB, JAN. I settled on AMY and the other players eventually connected me with the initials.

Later on I wanted to have “Swami” as my game name but everybody and their brother was called Swami, so I combined it with Hammurabi because I played a lot of Civilization and bacame Swamurabi. Instant uniqueness.

In GW1 I had a different name for each character, sometimes the class of the character was given away by the name. Two things I wanted to avoid in GW2. All my GW2 toons have the same first name so everyone can easily connect me with my alts. Secondly I’ve managed to assign last names (based on a series of books) to the toons that are a link to their class, but it’s not obvious like having a ranger named archer.

Are there any boss fights in HoT beta where the boss has immunity to direct damage but still takes condition damage?

A long long time ago, I entered WvW. I followed a few tags around, deciding which commander/guild I wanted to join. I was as noob as you could be. I thought that the goal was to take objectives and that’s how the game should be played. I followed one guild and thought to myself “why are these guys farming a single camp or tower instead of taking back everything they could.” I joined a different guild, one that was “defender of my server”

After a month or two I realized that no matter what I did my server was going to finish third. Every day when I logged on we had little coverage/population and just after we flipped our corner of the map, the number one server would roll through and flip everything back. We never even got a single upgrade finished. It got boring knowing that no matter what you did you knew you were going to finish last.

Then something happened. A server above mine collapsed and all of a sudden we didn’t finish third. We were second. While we didn’t win we had more fun because we had someone to kick around. While it was interesting for a while it eventually got boring because no matter what you did you knew you were going to finish second.

And then something else happened, we got transfers and we were no longer second. We were first! We did what we wanted, rolling over the other two servers. Life was good. Until you realized that it was boring winning all the time, having no one else on the map to stop you because they didn’t want to go 20v50.

Somewhere you realize that PPT isn’t the objective of WvW.

Now you all can argue that PPT increases moral which brings more players which increases PPT…….. but the fact is that if you have nobody to replace you when you log off then you will lose to the servers that have replacements. So for anyone not in NA T1, playing for PPT is a way to burn yourself out quickly.

But what is great about WvW is the fact that on any given night, you can if you want to:

Play for PPT in a zerg
Play for PPT in a small group
Play for PPT as a solo
Play for PPK in a zerg
Play for PPK in a small group
Play for PPK as a solo

Will I be playing their a revenant ignoring fearmancers whenever I can keep my boon up, yes. Otherwise it will be a 5 man necro fearmancer team throwing entire zergs off cliffs with timed fears and boon stripping (bye bye stability).

So entire zergs will be countered by a strategy that can be rendered useless by stopping for 5 seconds?

Maybe that should be a hint…

Yes usually 100 man EotM train lose like 5 players when necro come fear. Maybe wvw player is just worse player than karma trainer.

Not when you know when to drop the wall. Let a few pass where you’ll drop the wall. the ones following can’t see the wall. It even helps when you have smart players that pop stability. This makes the unaware think that nothing’s wroooooooooooooong.

But as for the new map….

EotM was played differently in beta than it is now as well as if it was added as a new BL map.

I just don’t know if adding choke points protected by towers will be the answer.

I do agree that a problem with the current maps is unused areas as well as towers are strategically irrelevent to take keeps. The SE tower doesn’t help in taking Hills. The SW tower is 1 of 10 spots to take bay and NE/NW towers are only 2 of 9 spots to take gari.

My concerns will be that unless there are bypass routes, a small, well sieged group could prevent a larger group from advancing. This would be like the AC buff. Remember treb wars? Two groups standing around lobbing treb shots at each other while the rest of the players not on siege waited.

I also don’t expect the beta testers to play on the new map like it will eventually be played. I also doubt this is the death of open field fights, because what really brought about the open field fights is players and guilds adapting to the game. The open field fights is what’s been keeping a lot of players coming back to WvW every week for 2 years, even though they already know that they will lose the match.

Shouldn’t killing a lvl 80 player, regardless of how long since their last death, have a better reward than killing a lvl 80 mob in Orr?

How many precursor drops in WvW went unclaimed becuase the player died before they could collect their loot?

I’ve been on one balanced EotM map before. It was the most boring experience I ever had. A certain guild had all three commanders and were K-training the map. Take your area, go to the right and take the next area, port back and repeat. It took an hour before somone capped the last tower. I left to find a better instance, one where I was outmanned.

The greatest myth of the server merger is that you cannot merge servers to achieve balance. Because of the 24/7 game mode, the earth’s distribution of population is not equal amongst all time zones. So when you take the highest pop time zone and fill every map, there will be low pop time zones where some maps will be empty.

Either change the 24/7 game mode or balance map cap per time zone.

Since EotM can’t even be balanced within a 3 hour game mode I don’t see variable map caps working.

I don’t really care who the specialist is, it’s not my call to make, or yours. After all, how many hours/kills/forum posts does one need in WvW before they know what’s needed. It’s not like the WvW meta has changed with any balance patch.

Let’s review NA seasons:

Season 1 was buy guilds to win and also boring matches.
Season 2 was matchfix to win and the HoD bandwagon (free transfers) which imploded right after the season was over.
Season 3 was a shorter version of season 1.

Each season had transfers before the start that left some servers in tiers they shouldn’t have been in.

And you want Season 4???

Superior Sigil of Malice for condi duration
36% Super Veggie Pizza for condi duration

There was an interview where Colin said that a Druid could mix Ranger and Druid skills but a Ranger couldn’t use Druid skills.

I expect the Necro specialization to be some kind of great sword weilding, lifestealing shade so powerful in HoT beta testing it gets nerfed into the lowest tier right before release.

The boss could go through earth.

Maybe Sylvari Firstborn are Ascended and Caithe wants to protect the other Sylvari, and PC’s, from Mordremoth’s influence by using the magic of Glint’s egg to grant Ascension. Then we all can see the Mursaat from the cutscene.

1. You could argue that Anet has a problem balancing matches in all PvP modes.

2. Rewards in EotM are better then WvW, which is an incentive for players to play, especially if they are uplevelled. The only reward for me in WvW is playing WvW.

3. Also take out points per capture to reduce the “let them take it, we’ll flip it later” EotM attitude

4. Maybe add bonus PPK when you kill an enemy player on your territory, but offer better loot when you capture points not in your territory.

5. Several map flaws in EotM. FR keep could be made almost impossible to take. BL keep always vulnerable from scorps plus many ways into inner. OG keep is easy to defend even though OG oil on inner almost unusable. You have to be exposed to use it. Also OG has easier access to middle of the map. BL and FR tend to get funneled to the sides of the map or to each other. Bridges take too little supply to rebuild. Why does Perch NPC’s build cannons but not mortars and why do the other towers don’t even build cannons.

Supercannon is too much of an advantage for OG then it is for BL or FR. Sentry towers need timers and rework to not be able to be placed in unreachable areas. Altar bonus little used because of all the sentry towers on the maps Observatory too close to OG immunity. Upper part of OG keep rarely used. FR sentry near spawn rarely flips.

Airport offers nice item at the cost of waiting around doing nothing. Wurm tunnels nice, but FR rarely gets to use them. OG uses them as a way to bypass BL outer wall. Scorps overused. At least make BL keep walls/gates immune to scorp damage. BL sentry near spawn also rarely flipped.

Forge buff nice, but Kodan transform rarely used. Bell shouldn’t have mapwide indicator of where your zerg is. Shrine should have something too offset the fact that it’s often skipped because it’s too out of the way and if you are FR, capping Shrine steers you to Tytone Perch. Was there a bridge from FR keep to shrine taken out? There’s something from keep to shrine on minimap, maybe as a way to get out shrine gate from keep faster but was removed? Wish the movement penalty was instead a visibility penalty.

Precursors in the gem store = Pay to win. Period. There really is no other way to look at it. Crafting a legendary is the end game, but now you put it behind a pay wall. A move like this would be a terible, terrible, terrible, most horrible and Grenth blasted idea ever.

Not really “Pay to Win” (in that owning a legendary does not give you any form of combat advantage over someone who has an ascended weapon of the same type), but pretty detestable all the same.

Oh I understand that completely. However, Pay to Win in this game has come to be defined as getting all the skins. Which is one of the main reasons for people pursuing a Legendary weapon in the first place. Thats the same argument given about gem store exclusive armor sets, and skins, and why so many people feel that GW2 is pay to win.

Pay to win is NOT defined as having all the skins and never has been for GW1 or GW2.

Pay to win IS defined as paying for best in slot, which skins aren’t, but Legendaries are.

Necro or Mesmer (Boon Removal)

I don’t know about PvE or sPvP, but in WvW hitting Corrupt Boon at the right time in a zerg fight will cause the target to go down rather quickly. It’s not an insta kill but it’s really close.

For the PvE experts out there, are there any boss fights where boon strip is useful?
Is there anywhere in dungeons where a boon strip build is better than the meta build for mesmer or necro?

Same question for the sPvP experts out there, could a boon strip mesmer or necro be more useful than their current meta builds?

Philosophy Shift to Less Choice

Is getting rewarded for a daily achievement without knowing you were doing it in the first place an achievement?

The dailies used to be a “do stuff” achievement. You didn’t even have to be aware what the requirements were and all of a sudden a chest popped up on screen. I look at the new login bonus as a combination of the old monthy achievement and the old “play how I want” daily achievement, minus the AP.

The new daily is the AP part of the old daily, with more balance how you can get the reward.

As for PvE, I understand the megaserver, it had to happen. It sucks for very high and full pop servers, also for WvW calls for help. But it was necessary for lower pop servers.

As for the NPE, I get the thought but it’s swung too far. My first toon did 100% map completion, the second helped a friend but only got 80% completion. The third and fourth got to 80 mainly in WvW. Fifth through eight were EotM. So you can see I played less and less GW2 for each toon. While Anet wants you to play how you want, I can see that if a lot of players tend to follow the same path it could lead to parts of the GW2 universe underplayed.

This is why I think the dailies and NPE were changed. Anet wants players to play more parts of the game. They also want players to play together. They know that in GW1, certain towns were rarely used while others were packed. I’m sure the same thing is happening in GW2. How much time has does anyone spend in Fireheart Rise, Iron Marches or Timberline Falls. There’s no world boss to lure players for 15 minutes every 2 hours.

What if Anet’s considers their game design philosophy of having groups of players playing together in underpopulated maps more important than your game playing philosophy of getting rewards for doing anything you want?

This is exactly what is happening. Since I (and other players) am not happy with their new and enforced game design philosophy, we make this kind of threads to alert them about possible consequences of the shift and to give them a hint on how to get the best of the both worlds and retain both types of (potentially paying) customers.

GW1 turned into a large number of players congregating into a very small number of places, with a large number of places having very minimal number of players.

As the game ages, there’s a huge difference between new and old players. Something that could discourage new players from continued play. By having dailies that temporarily move older players on maps with newer players, you won’t get the toxicity that was the Queensdale champ train. Plus some of those older players might decide to stay and help some of the newer players advance.

I think if there’s a choice between do what Anet wants for rewards or do whatever you want and get the same rewards, most players would choose the easier method. But what is easiest for the player is not necessarily what is best for the game in the long run.

Last night I was in Iron Marches for the 4 event achievement and there were players pointing out events that were active in chat. Other than World Bosses or champ trains, that’s something I haven’t seen since launch.

Also I was in Queensdale and was working on farming resources and saw another player who was on their way to an event. They were struggling with some wasps. I changed my route, helped them with the wasps and escorted them to the event. After the event I went on my farming ways. Didn’t take more than a couple minutes of my time. If I was playing how I wanted to play I’d have never been there.

I think Anet gets satisfaction from players playing how they want, but they get more from players helping and teaming up with other players.

New mini-game - Inventory Manager

Of course you could buy some more inventory space in the Gem Store …. although I’m sure that ANet wouldn’t deliberately push you in that direction …..

I’m at full 8 bag slots with 20 slot bags on 2 characters, main and second main. These are already more than half full with dungeon potions, food, alternate gear, overflowing mithril/wood/ore/dust/fragments, consumables, tonics, toys, geodes/crests/flavour of the month currencies… And that’s with 2 Copper- and 2 Silver-o-matics and a set of infinite gathering tools!

When I open Halloween and Wintersday bags, it’s overflowing with all the trashy skins, tonics and bags-of-bags-of-bags.

I kinda would buy more bags if I could. But I can’t.

I created my own personal guild and researched the extra storage. I’ve got 8 toons with only one acting as a mule. The stuff that can’t go into my guild bank either ends up in my personal bank or on the mule.

Now it starts with players……then to forum specialists…..to forum communication team…..to devs. Maybe there’s a level or two before devs I’ve missed like program coordinators and program leads.

Sounds like another way to get things to NOT be heard.

Spectral Wall

I love it when the lead players counter my spectral wall, it just means that the tail doesn’t realize that something bad is going to happen. Sometimes I’ll let the first few pass before dropping the wall for the rest. It’s too funny to see five or six turn around and realize everyone else is not there.

One day it will be fixed so it has a red border around it but until then if you’re OG you better have a way to counter it.

There was a time in WvW when a boss had RI, the only ways to do damage was through retaliation OR by dropping a dark field and getting life steal combo. Life steal combo damaged more than retal did and necros were much in need then.

And to think if one of those 80 man blob separated into four 20 man groups and hit other targets on the map…..

Anet needs to find a way to increase the AoE limit so that the max blob 80 isn’t 16 times the max AoE targets of 5.
