Norn Spirits (OWL)

Fun idea for a weekend but several ideas are flawed based off of lore.

That lore being that: when the Norn fled the northern shiver peaks, the spirits of the wild held Jormag at bay as long as they could, this resulted in the Spirit of the Owl being killed and completely destroyed.

No spirit animal = no power to call upon = no power to call upon = no transformations = no shamans = no spirit guide

far as we know there is no way to replace or bring back a guardian of the mists such as the Spirit Animals.

Seems we are only focusing on the “what is a zerg” portion and ignoring the rest here. Yes some guilds are coordinated but most servers T3 and under don’t and most likely wont ever pick up on this or establish this so a nudge in the right direction via game design would be useful to create tougher match ups for everyone and thus more fun (unless you only have fun by owning every map and trolling spawn).

If having events that directly effect towers/keeps/supply seems off then perhaps just randomly spawing bosses (dragons dropping in maybe) for the servers to fight over for a few extra bonus points?

While not entirely on topic, grats for thinking outside the box and finally someone is using sigils and traits to do something other than Shatter Cat.

On the note of using Sigils to change a fight and fill in holes.
Mesmers should Check into Sup Sigil Of Generosity for condition removals if your build is lacking there or you want to bring a few different utilities.

Firstly I loved the idea of WvW, it’s good fun to go have chaotic PvP capping towers and keeps but as the months have gone by its begun to show its flaws. So coming from a BWE participant here are a few thoughts that might aid WvW as an outstanding and long lasting feature to Gw2.

Maps. While i understand servers and limits of tech are against this one, large maps would help to flesh out and draw out battle over a greater time, putting a more crucial aspect on keeping a team of players on their feet if needing to run back is the difference between taking or losing something.

Map Diversity would also be very welcome, perhaps Borderlands more reminiscent of their Eternal Battle grounds brother states (Hills/Mountains, Ruined plains, Bog/Swamp). This would force different tactics on different lands and add some more spice to the match ups.

Incentive to Cap/Lose/Recap. As it stands, there is more incentive to capture towers near enemy spawns for a quick gain of silver and karma and then allow them to be recapped to repeat this than there is to Capture and hold them. A Diminishing return on Capturing outposts or perhaps Greater/lesser rewards based on the upgrades upon capture would maybe turn to focus more towards server score.

Orange swords on the map. They need to go, seriously, its a beacon for zergs and doesn’t inspire any thought or planning to rush to where the crossed swords are in hope of some easy kills.

Anti Zerg. While effective WvW has begun to boil down to who has the biggest, meanest, richest zergs. I cannot for the life of me see an effective way to discourage this type of play (collecting 90-140 players in a long mass capping train) with things in their current state, perhaps some of the listed suggestions combined would help to force split efforts and smarter more competitive play.

Incentive to Hold/ Server Score. Applying boosts to WvW and PvE based on overall score throughout the week is all fine and dandy but I think there are some aspects which need to be removed (Increased health for one) or changed. Score should also not be auto-increased by 5-10-20-50 upon taking a location. Slow incremental point build up over time would ensure that keeps and camps and towers would be held not only for an advantage on the field, but so that maximum points can be gained.

Waypoints. While grand feel almost too cluttered (4 possible on each BL and 5 in SM) Again this is something that might improve from having larger playing fields.

A side thought I had early this week from watching videos of zergs camping in-front of spawns. Perhaps turn these locations into Capture points rather than complete safe zones outside of the Eternal battle grounds (Home spawns excluded in each BL). Capturing said Spawn (includes wading through a mass amount of legendary NPC’s And constantly re spawning Invaders) would close the Waypoint for a small window of time. measures to prevent quick recapturing would be needed but it may add an interesting reward/punishment factor.

Large Scale Events. Another Side thought that would give greater incentive is having the Environment put up a fight alongside the 3 servers. Events such as a Mass Dredge assault on towers or a keep attempting to win it over and rend if from All servers (not for another server) requiring immediate attention would add a sense of stress and panic to WvW. never knowing if what you hold, even as you push on the last few towers and keeps, is going to come under sudden attack, or if the Keep lord you’re about to finish off is suddenly going to have destroyers bubble up from under his feet you’ll need to take out as well. This would aid and hinder some of the natural balance servers find as well; Perhaps a winning server suddenly finds two of its keeps and towers being destroyed and or captured by an army of Giants leaving them vulnerable to a quick cap from the other servers and forcing the winning server to pull back. On the flip side a server about to be reduced to only two keeps left in their BL might have one suddenly be overwhelmed by centaurs as they defend the other from invaders.

TL;DR
Bigger more divers maps, no orange swords, stop zerging from being effective, give outlaying mobs a larger role in the push and flow, lessen WPs, change incentives on capping and holding as well as server buffs based on points.

I love being double teamed by yak and mag, it just shows how much of a threat we are. I mean again, I understand you guys need the handicap because your servers skill average is below average, but you would think attacking each other would grant u more points at this point.

Someone is upset. Get over it. Let me explain something to you and move on, since you are unable to comprehend it yourself.

YAKS will attack you because you are in SECOND place and they want to hold onto first place. Maguuma will attack you because your server is in second place and THEY want to take second place. But keep talking about how ‘skillful’ you server is vs the others, it never gets old.

If you can’t understand or deal with that fact, perhaps its time for you to find a game that is better suited to your comprehension.

I seem to recall our last WvW match when Ehmry was stuck in third and Yaks and Maguuma were all too happy to both try and target us as a priority. Sooo i’m inclined to believe that placement has absolutely nothing to do with this.

Seems all well and good if it’s how you want to use your clones in PvE and dungeons but i just don’t see the application or viability of this kind of build in WvW or sPvP at all.

This also seems to be vastly inferior to shatter spamming or outright dps for the following reasons.

Cones do not chase or run unless a target is out of range, meaning that even when said clone gets replaced, it wont apply conditions on anything it isnt close to.

Conditions are very underwhelming on a Mesmer aside from confusion, unless stacked very high. the amount of clone replacement needing to take place in order to keep a large and substantial amount of conditions on a target this way would require some extreme micro management as well as constant vigor. even then, it may still be impossible to do outside of PvE.

Scepters Auto Attack deals very low dmg and clones apply no conditions outside of traited bleeding on a crit.

Players move around a lot, people have finally begun to learn that they need to be moving constantly to be most effective. This means counting on clones dieing close to your target is very very risky.

The Scepter is built to surpress burst classes with a few stacks of confusion as well as generating a slow flow of clones to send in for a shatter, it also comes with a block/blind just in case you need it. This isn’t a condition based weapon, that would be the staff, and honestly the traits based on clone death are more to give your enemies a “ kitten if I do, kitten if I dont” approach to fighting off a phantasm or trying to locate a Mesmer in a cluster of clones.

More power to you for the idea, but it’s not something i would recommend for the majority of Mesmers to use.

Mass Invisibility in Urgent Need of Buff

in Mesmer

Swish.2463

After giving things a bit more thought, and looking at all the mesmer elites..

Both Timewarp and MI could benefit greatly from an AoE cap removal or increase, or a secondary negative effect for foes within range such as a knock down, stun, cripple, knock back, or chilled, etc..

As is, 5 seconds of invisibility is a very small frame and not enough to sneak out of a fight or into one effectively, it is also easily broken by any sort of skill use often meaning allies will remove the effect immediately after its been applied. something needs tweaking here because this feels more like what veil should have been and it just got thrown into the elite slot when nothing else could be thought up and veil got kittened to make it less preferable (in theory).

Personally i find the Torch invis bombing to be far more effective 3s Invis with blind burst to start and burning upon end with less than half the CD of MI or Veil.

What are "good" mesmers weaknesses?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Skill and trait wise, the largest hole any Mesmer faces is a complete and utter lack of Condition removal and “survival” buffs (protection, regen, swiftness, etc)

The mesmer class has a Mantra which can be used twice in rapid succession to remove up to 4 conditions, this skill is then on a 20 second recharge. Note 70-90% of mesmers NEVER carry a single Mantra skill.

The Mesmer has Arcane Theivery which can transfer up to 3 conditions while also stealing 3 boons from a single foe. this has a very limited range and a 36-45(?) second cool down if its been traited or not. again good for a quick bust or a small turn in the middle of a fight but not substantial.

The mesmer has a single trait in the Vit line which allows for condition removal on a heal (6 skill only) This means they have the ability to remove 1 condition and use up a heal at these intervals : 1 second x2 from the healing mantra (x3 if traited most are not) followed by a 20 second cd. one every 15 seconds with the Mirror skill (the one that reflects projectiles) or every 20 seconds with Ether Feast.

While the 3rd option seems wonderful note that no one wants to use a heal they dont need just to stop bleeding early in a fight and its not potent enough to remove a cluster of conditions later in a fight.

Other issues.

The class struggles without shatters or clones. A mesmer who cannot keep clones up will easily be destroyed.

Illusions, specificly Phantasms are now LoS and can be avoided with a dodge or blind or wall at the right moment.

Very few skills that apply boons. Mesmers typically will only recieve Regen in a smattering from a few traits, retaliation is also common but requires yet another trait, protection is now less common and short lived, might from shatters. these are the most likely boons and you will not often see any others on a mesmer.

Lack of sustained conditions. Honestly the only conditions you really need to worry or care about from a mesmer and its clones are Bleeding and Confusion, no other condition applied even by staff mesmers will last for more than 1, possibly 2, seconds.

Stagnated build pool: i hate to say it but after playing as a mesmer and watching other mesmers, just a quick glance at what they charge into battle with as their first weapon choice (staff, GS, Sword/pistol) Will give away exactly what they are about to do in about 95% of all cases as well as how they will choose to fight and what they will do if pressured and they begin to feel like they may lose.

Players: Maybe its just me but many mesmers find one weapon (applys mostly to WvW) they like (also mostly GS) and often forget they can weapon swap at all as they have grown so used to relying and using only a single weapon, forcing a close quaters battle is often the easiest way to befuddle and confuse a mesmer as much as they do you… we dont always know exactly where a teleport is about to take us and it can backfire very quickly (mostly thanks to the wonderful camera in closed area’s or rooms) on us.

While this may or may not be helpful it’s the honest answer outside of the typical “OMG LERN TEW PLAY” responses.

Fractals dungeon players restricting others.

Swish.2463

I see a lot of annoyingly thoughtless replys on here so I just feel the need to point out at how much turmoil there is for many servers still.

Guilds: Some of them disband, some of them get destroyed, some move servers right after you join them.

Population: Not every server consistently has enough people in LA to cause players to go into Overflow, and not all those people will be doing Fractals on different toons.

This dungeon does become a problem when faced with the fact that there are indeed selfish and elitist Groups that quickly form and gate or bar their time from anyone attempting to catch up or join them at the top. Coupled with the Res greifing, DC’s, and several bugs that are pretty nasty.. this Dungeon is lovely but it needs some tweaks to stay consistent with the rest of the Gw2 game design of “Skill over numbers every time”

Gw2 Future Professions and Skills

in Suggestions

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Sorry not gonna be a thread about my half baked idea’s for OP god-like classes that Anet should make. More of a collection of thoughts about maintaining Balance whilst these things are added.

Lets face it, Gw2 is an MMO and it is susceptible to teh zombie crawl of releasing New Skills, Weapons, and Classes to up the stakes and get more players and make established players happy. But how can Anet keep a steady balance and avoid adding so much that keeping a general balance is even possible?

My thoughts on the matter.

Limit new Classes. Personally, with so much of the game alreayd about looks over numbers, The fewer classes that end up overlapping or becoming OP the better. I would prefer perhaps 1, maaaaaaybe 2 in the case of medium armor, new class per armor tier. I’d rather see more Races than classes before the game runs its course and dies out in the far flung future.

New Weapons. Again i feel limiting these is paramount, sure its only 5 skills for a smattering of professions but adding a whole new skill set for each of the 8 classes can very easily lead to one sitting ontop of the others. Just enough weapons to give a bit more play style choice without making older options useless.

New Skills. I see the idea of modifiers for weapon skills being thrown around, customizing each skill to your exact liking with some take and give and while Thats wonderful I dont feel its taken quiet far enough. To limit the introduction of needed Utility skills and Elite skills I’d much rather see Slotable alternate skills for the weapons. For example X weapon #2 currently has an attack that casts a ground targeted AoE, in the future this could be interchangeable with a second option that fires a projectile. Using the second option ofcourse removes the first until switched back. Keeping balance here would be a matter of perhaps limiting how many Weapon skills can be interchanged (Example 1 3 5 are default and 2 and 4 are secondary, you need a different skill for 3 to be more effective but need to trade 4 or 2 back to default for it).

Lemme know your guys thoughts on the above or anything else you may have considered.

TL;DR Keeping less and making it count for More is better than having 5 pages of utilities to scroll through or 15 professions to pick from.

Best class for keep away/conditions?

in Players Helping Players

Necro will probably have the easiest time in PvE as a caster. Mesmer is very difficult to play until you reach about 70 and can fully unlock most of the traits you’ll be using (they’re virtually worthless without some key traits) Ele is much harder to play at close range but with a staff you can deal a lot of damage fairly quickly to multiple targets.

Number wise:
Necro – Highest health and toughness of the 3 casters + Death Shroud for a whole nother life bar

Mesmer – Medium sized health pool and toughness highly movement based and effective in most situations but also the most difficult class to learn and play, requires a lot of micro management and don’t have many self buffs or long lasting conditions.

Ele – Lowest health pool in game and lowest toughness in game but the highest damage sitting just below the Warrior. Mostly for ranged play only unless you can learn to use daggers extremely well. also cannot weapon swap so you will be relying on only one weapon and your attunements.

So Eredon Terrace is in a very nasty down spiral in WvW and PvE (thanks to WvW ironically) and after exhausting all my supplies and options and myself farming..

I come now to this forum in search of the following without expecting much at all..

Donations To attain a Commander icon: Our server is very lacking in commanders to help organize and herd small guild and Pugs around in both PvE and PvP. So far I’ve managed to gather 11 Gold for this over the past few days all on my own But any kind aid would be greatly appreciated.

WvW Players: I currently am leader of a very small guild on ET that is looking for anyone who loves WvW and a challenge. If you’d like to move ship and help us rebuild our numbers and gain some momentum that’d be wonderful..

PvE Players: Those that love Dungeons, know the event chains and maps in and out and can help us retake and hold onto places like Temple of balth, Arah, CoE, etc… I’m also in search of these people for my guild, as you are a crucial part of the community as well.

Power Traders : Our server is very lacking in these kind of players, so if you’re tired of being the poorest rich guy on another server drop on in.. we could use you and your know how for our WvW or maybe some server wide events.

Guilds: If you’ve got a moderately sized and active guild and are looking for a spot with very few trolls and a more warm atmosphere give ET a try! We’re a lot less dramatic since TL and RuiN left the server for greener pastures.

I would like to state that I don’t wish to beg or be seen as a beggar, and while I am no Money factory or hardcore farmer I will eventually manage to build up the gold needed for these kinds of things I thought there would be no harm in simply asking other players across the game to Help me, Help Eredon Terrace put up a better fight for you.

Message me in Game if you’d like on Sola Solstice, I’m sporadically online throughout the day and night. Have a happy Halloween guys!

Bloastering PvE! This means groups for dungeons to ensure anyone who wants a run can go at any given time, keeping Orr open and passable as well as runs on Balth for those seeking legendary materials. Group map clears to help out newer and older players who might just need that final push to achieve this, group events and parties in LA and other various maps, server wide contests for prizes!

Rebuilding PvP! with our main focus on WvW we will focus on grabbing up Commander icons for those special leaders who can get the job done smartly and efficiently, Funding siege weaponry and reinforcements on keeps and towers. Being the driving force to help ET climb the WvW ladder once again (and maybe even hit #1). Organizing and aiding other guilds to encourage a stronger community and alliance that is server wide! We also wouldn’t say no to SPvP teams to support.

Yes its a jumping puzzle, yes they are supposed to be difficult, but making one Timed? thats rubbish. Specifically a Puzzle that is available only once a year and needed for achievements across a board.

So anet, with your terrible design choice here that alienates anyone who: Owns a sub par computer, lacks focus, lacks honed reflexes, cannot spend several hours learning every jump, has sub par internet, gets motion sickness, or is simply a casual player… what’s it gonna be?

Perhaps its just me, maybe its not but Tyria seems to have lost much of its vastness and scale between Gw1 and Gw2. Part of this may be do to limits on the technological side but In all my years of waiting I never really could picture the Brand being only (what feels like) 100 yards across.. Things just don’t seems as epic as they could have been.

Part of this might be Movement speed and Character sizes, etc… But Its my biggest qualm with the overall experience and Lore. I love the rest of the game guys, but can we look forward to seeing truly vast playing fields that feel like the old Guildwars again, in the future?

Proposed Overhaul of Mesmer Class.

Weapons: Mesmer weapons carry very little AoE potential and often bouncing is not enough to catch attention or be viewed as a threat by multiple enemies. Other weapons lack heavily in damage and condition potential and come with no extra incentive to use them in many cases.

Thoughts for the weapons I am most familiar with (Please ad your own below).
Staff:
Skill 1, Removal of Bounce and reformat to splash aoe upon contact. 1 condition randomly applied to target and nearby (10 or less feet) foes. Damage applied only to target.
Skill 4, perhaps an added boon such as retaliation for the player or nearby allies, or condition for nearby foes. very short duration but still adding incentive to use this skill more often. Sever target distance requirement for use.

Sword:
Skill 3, Allow for multiple swaps with clone to allow for greater mobility. (In, out.. you get the idea, and don’t make it dirty your pervs…)

Utilities: As stated above there’s is but one of these skills that will deal direct damage to a foe. This needs to change.. many other classes, in fact I believe all other classes, Carry party buff and support abilities while the Mesmer does not. In general we need to see Damage applied to several more skills, Boons with significant durations for yourself and others that inspire a more substantial and meaty pay off for using skills with longer cool downs (Null Field for Example can easily turn a battle for a few moments but often the stripped conditions and boons are reapplied within moments rendering it a dead skill for 36-45 seconds that was, in such cases, a waste.)

Traits: Following the above changes this would allow for a bit more room to allocate traits to have a more wide spread effect upon multiple builds. Taking focus away from relying solely on Illusions to make a build around and allowing players to use them as a tool for a build and style. Perhaps You are a back line DPS with a GreatSword and the advancing mob is coming in too fast to stay inside one of your skills that you need them to.. You could then call upon your phantasm to cripple them with its shatter (rather than hoping it will spin into them before you or your target dies as your main source of damage and cripple, or accidentally calling it too late only to be forced to shred it for a quick retreat).

I appreciate everyone’s time that actually read through all of that. And perhaps with enough proper educate and intelligent discussion we can get this class to where it needs to be.

TL;DR – There isn’t a short version, go read it. ^

Proposed Overhaul of Mesmer Class.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Not gonna rage here about how broken or silly things are or look to start a flame war, I just feel the Mesmer needs an overhaul to truly feel like a Mesmer again. Please note I do not have a degree or experience in game design either, but as a sensible gamer these are my thoughts. With the disclaimer out of the way (btw feel free to reply and add your own suggestions or thoughts) Lets get down to the meat of it..

The Mesmer is great fun but something really feels off about the class. Specifically the need to focus on Shatters and illusions with ever single build. These are impossible to ignore and play without as nearly all of our traits directly or indirectly influence them. The Mesmer can currently play Support, DPS and in rare cases even be a bit meaty and tankish, however all of these play styles are focused on how we use Illusions. This is a Problem in PvE and PvP alike in various aspects and respects.

Current Build:
Mesmer is Highly situational and can spec for very specific types of encounters but is often at a loss if such a circumstance is not met (Much like the original Gw1 Mesmer pre-buff). There is a lack of party buff, aoe, and direct damage on the majority of weapons and across utilities and elites (depending on race). This causes the Mesmer, more often than not, to rely on enemy stupidity and panic to generate indirect damage (Example, Confusion condition).

Future Build:
Mesmer is more well rounded and effective in multiple situations, relying less upon Illusions for damage and self sustenance and is able to rely on other forms of play to cause havoc and mayhem for the enemy. A larger variety of play styles can be adapted and the Mesmer can fill nearly any roll successfully in at least 2 ways (two different styles).

So how do we get to the future Build? here are my thoughts on various aspects of the profession and how they might be tweaked or shifted to make the class more robust and less niche filler (not to say that filling a specific niche is bad but.. anyway).

Illusions.
Clones: Clones should be generated with the same health as the creator and potentially Armor as well. Upon being generated in combat, clones should inherit current health, conditions, and buffs. Clones should retain their complete lack of damage and still remain Attached to a target until death of either party (Player or attached target).
Why: This creates a much more solid decoy that can be ignored also has the potential to reach its target if commanded to charge and shatter. Still easily recognizable to the veteran eye by the lack of movement, skill use, and reaction when beaten like a wet rug.
Potential issues and Solutions: Condition and buff abuse from clones. Players might potentially find a way to draw these buffs or conditions or spread them to the rest of the party, causing 5-20 seconds of pure terror for the opposing side.
Solution: Clones cannot be affected by shouts or skills of this manner and do not count towards any bonuses from such skills.

Phantasms: These should be untied from the Targets death as well as the standard F1-4 shredding commands. These are meant to be physical representations of hexes and thus should stay in the world for a period of time similar to the Ranger and Guardian summon skills. Phantasm’s should, once brought into the world, be tied to a replacement shatter (Example, Illusionary Beserker -> Cast -> Replaced with Shred which applies cripple to all foes nearby its location -> Shred use -> Cool Down begins) Phantasm’s should remain tied to the 3 illusion limit.
Abuse Potential: very small, by keeping Phantasm’s tied to the 3 illusion limit this still only allows for 3 at any given time preventing any small armies from appearing on the map.

The Guardian Staff heal, Empower, often heals anywhere between 5 to 18 people (by my highest count) and merely stats on the skill it heal’s ally’s within range.

The mesmer skills state that they have a given effect (Time warp and Mass Invisibility) on either Allies, or “All Allies” within range however this is the case with neither. With the massive recharge and very limited duration I can’t help but feel this is not working as intended.

What exactly ARE the Elder Dragons?

in Lore

Swish.2463

Now for my speculative point, I put it last so you can just skip to it…

If the first races on tyria to harness magic began to consume everything around them, internally they build a greater amount of force and magic. If this magic began to act as a drug or bottomless hole begging to be filled, a normal hunger to simply survive becomes a greedy need to consume any, and everything. This focuses and twists the magic into a single purpose, and the more that is consumed, the larger the hole becomes, creating a hatred for never being satiated. This hatred becomes the corruption of the Elder Dragons, twisting and warping their forms, minds, and essence until they become what they are today. A by product of Tyria itself, and nothing more than a lesson in caution and greed, and perhaps A closing for the guild wars universe as a revelation that magic must die to prevent a new batch of Dragons from arising.

have a good one guys. sorry it had to use two posts.

What exactly ARE the Elder Dragons?

in Lore

Swish.2463

So much oversight and misinformation in here.. Its hard to sort out what is and isnt accurate and what needs correcting…

What are the Elder Dragons:
As far as we know and from their descriptions, they are primordial beasts older than currently known history. They care nothing for the world and seek only to burn it and feast upon the ashes that remain. They are Hunger and Hatred personified and magnified to colossal scales. magical and non magical at the same time.

Power:
Their Power comes from the corruption of magic adding it into their already expansive pool. They’re servants are gifted with portions of what becomes a Massive ocean, however their corruption can be reversed or cleansed in some cases and appears that the death of minions also weakens this power.

History:
Not much is known about the Elder Dragons last awakening, aside from a few smattered accounts from Arah. many races have not survived these periods of time, the only ones known being: The Jotun, Forgotten, Murrsaat and Seer’s.

The Jotun:
Described as the oldest race in tyria in lore, these once great beasts have warred themselves backwards to a primitive state. One masters of magic, even before the human gods split the blood stones and released magic and gifted it to the world once more. They now struggle with even simple magic and their great history is all but lost.

The Forgotten: This ancient race predates humanity and all other races currently in tyria today. Described as the over seer’s to the birth of Humanity and the world, aside Glint (whom’ they freed and were later hidden by) the cared for Tyria when there were no others. Upon Humanity’s expansion this race was pushed back into the Crystal desert where they may still reside. This race was saved from the Elder dragons by Glint as she hid them away until her master returned to his slumber.

The Seer’s and Murrsat:
These tow races seem to have a similar time line to the Forgotten and according to lost Lore kept in Arah, were responsible for the creation of the Blood stone’s. The Blood Stones sealed away all the Uncorrupted magic remaining in tyria, saving it from the dragons. These two races worked closely together for this purpose, then later hid away. afterwards they began to War upon one another, ultimately leading to the events of Guildwars 1 and the Flame Seeker Prof’s.

The exodus of the Human Gods:
While it’s not unthinkable that the human gods learned of and knew about the Elder Dragons from their studies of the older races, their exodus was caused by civil war. When Abaddon, the God of Secrects, took pity upon man and the mergonites and all the races of tyria as they struggled and gifted them with Magic. This sparked A great war amongst not only the races of tyria but the gods and their followers. The end of this war came when Abaddon was struck down and sealed away with his followers and secrets in the Realm of Torment by the other 5 gods. (this happened in the crystal Desert). After ensuring all memory of this 6th god and betrayer was erased or locked away, the human gods departed from Tyria but not before splitting the Blood stones created by the Murrsat and Seer’s, ensuring that magic was divided and shared equally through out all of tyria in all races..

Elder Dragons Exude pure, raw, magical energy. primodus while still in slumber was the solitary source of energy for the asuran portal hub in Gw1.

The dragons left guardians to guard them as they slumbered, obviously fearing the surviving races if there were any, while also ensuring they might have an easy meal when they time for them to awaken again came.

The death of the Great Destroyer (Gw1) Set Primordus’s awakening back by a full generation, implying the dragons are extremely weak and starved to the point where they cannot wake under their own power, outside sources of magic must be corrupted and added to the collective in order to awaken the primary source of the corruption. (this is not seen with the other dragons aside from Jormag thus far).

I can’t think of much more to write down at this time that might be helpful but it seems to me that These creatures might be the oldest surviving race Tyria has ever known. If magic were to flow naturaly from the Planet itself, it would infuse itself with all manners of life that flourish upon it. If evolutionary standards were to take place with this added element, the first primitive beasts to harness Magic for survival and gain would quickly begin to decimate the surround populations.

A Small Key for those debating lore.

Swish.2463

Nothing too phenomenal but i often see this little snip-it of information overlooked greatly.

its said in game quiet often as well.

“History never lies, Historians however….”

Before Gw2 we had Gw1 lore. Much of which was based around history recorded that stated many things that were untrue. Whether the information was forgotten, lost, or actually destroyed on purpose, that told the honest truth and provided the missing pieces , we didn’t know any better until much later in the series. (See Abaddon for an example).

Now that Gw2 has arrived, a few generations have passed, the land scape has changed, races have died or lost their cities and homes were much of the history forged in Gw1 was kept. Anet has taken a very semi-realistic stance on this and thus not all in-game lore can be counted on to be factual or absolute law. This isn’t Marvel or DC comics.. Historians can get it wrong in real life, and they can get it wrong in Gw2 as well.

That’s all I’ve got guys. Chill out and wait for the ride to finish before flying off the handle about plot holes and inconsistencies.

P.S. Where da eff did all the kitten mountains between the zones come from?

Goemm's Lab

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Alright, so this is an actual bug (not a complaint that its too hard).

So usually what happens here is you fall off (for the hundredth time) and are teleported back to the beginning portal with no cost or damage to armor. In this instance, this happened…

Area: Final Section of the Puzzle (Goemm’s Lab)
Location: First and second jump from starting platform (This means the jump off of the platform and the first floating stone)
Action: Jumping and failing (Aka falling off)
Result: Extended fall through a “hole” in the “insta-death wall”.

Honestly I couldn’t pinpoint the exact location of it nor the size but it happened twice where-in My mesmer when plummeting like a rock through this barrier, past the rest of the jumping puzzle, through the clouds, through more clouds, and finally face planting on top of a mountain (unreachable any other way) outside of the normal playing zone. This fall did not result in death upon contact with the ground, and only once did a slight step result in insta-death. The second time, after deciding to find out just how badly i could continue to break the game, I was stuck and forced to teleport via waypoint back after finding my way clear off the map and falling once more to a point underneath the normal playing zone.

Severity: Low. I cant see this being very exploitable for anyone’s gain, its just annoying to loose 1 silver to a waypoint due to a bug.

Charrzooka Bug.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Pretty basic and simple to repro:

Charrzooka – obtain a Charrzooka for a span of time and blow up everything around you.

Ammo limit: 15 (this should mean 15 skill uses of the weapon?)

Currently when using this elite (unsure if this applys to any other elites at this time) using Any skill (includes F1-4) removes 1 from the remaining uses counter. Thus if you need to stop and heal, that’s one less shot you can take.

Is this By Design or something unintentional that got overlooked.

Terribly sorry i didnt have the exact numbers.

These no longer apply after last nights update but..

1 Run 13-20 minutes = End chest Reward of 20+ silver (+any items found – armor repairs) = Average 2-4 gold drops per 10 runs at 50% magic find = Average 1-3 Exotic Rewards per 10 runs at 50% magic find.

Added up to at a minimum of 1g an hour off of end chest alone. Additional Drops generated another 50silver to 5g depending on TP value. (after just one hour of runs)

CoF Polluting Economy?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

Not sure how the rest of you view the speedy CoF run at this point in time but currently I believe the silver and chest drop rewards either need a nerf for consecutive runs or the dungeon path needs a considerable buff. (not talking about tokens)

With high enough magic find its possible to generate about 1 rare drop per run maybe 2.

4 Rare level 80 items has a 10% chance to generate an exotic item at the Mystic forge.

Exotics can then be sold to create gold revenue or salvaged for pricey materials for crafting. Even level 80 rares can generate these items.

at this time about 6 or 7 runs = 1gold. (Armor repair fee’s included, merched items not)

This is quickly driving up prices on the TP and creating a substantial gap between those below 75 and those able to farm Cathedral of Flames.

{Example: Abyss Dye (the most expensive dye) has risen from 2gold (near launch day) to 3 gold (last week) and is now sitting pretty around 5 to 6 gold and the price is still climbing.}

Currently GW2 does not have enough gold sinks to counter this proverbial Gold Pump.

Disabling Shot (Shortbow slot 3) Can be fired directly bakwards.

Pull any enemy, turn and run (generally works best with some distance so you can watch without worrying about death or dmg). Use Disabling shot.

Toon will evade backwards (towards the enemy) and an arrow will fly through your back and strike the foe.

Why is Warriors HP > Guardian HP

in Guardian

Posted by: Swish.2463

Swish.2463

ok i see a lot of regen and numbers being thrown around in here.. so as a guardian i feel that i need to add in my opinion on the matter…

Do guardians need some more health at base? Yes
Do guardians need some more power? Yes

Do we regen health in battle? Yes but if not traited and stacked for it its very low and easily negated by conditions.

Are we hard to kill if played correctly? Yes, but all classes are that way.

Other Classes cant regen health and lack our healing skills, so we need less of everything else? Wrong, If a Warrior can mow down his opponent in 10 seconds and avoid another battle for 4 or 8, he’s right back to full health. A guardian may take 2 to 6 times longer to win the same battle, and the longer a fight goes on the more likely either side is to lose.

Guardians still need some serious work and tweaks before we find our absolute correct slot in Gw2. PvE, sPvP, and WvW.

Difference between Rare and Exotic stats:
7-15 more armor
2 to 7 more points in any given ability

Grand total on overall stats: 10-50 points

Overall Player skill > Bestest gear gold can buy. (100% of the time)

It should be noted that dungeon armor is harder to gain due to its rarer skins. you can buy or craft exotic armor in 4 hours or less if you have the materials and level for it..

Armor teirs are there partly to uphold tradition but also to allow players to have some clue what they’re about to go up against in a fight.

If you ran into a group of mixed classes all wearing the same light armor skin you’d probably be a bit upset when half of them turned out to be warriors you hit for 50% less dmg and were promptly beaten to a pulp by.

Not to be a dream crusher here.. Skritt are out (they get stupider in lesser numbers) Quaggan while cute just don’t carry a heroic feel or any real relatablity. Centaurs would look awkward trying to jump around the map and fit oddly into the same hit boxes all the playable races currently reside in (which are all identical). Dwarves are now extinct in Tyria (the Slaver faction had been killed and snuffed out near the end of EoTN in Gw1 and the remainder of the Deldrimor Dwarves were all turned to stone to fight the destroyers around the same time.)

I can really only see the Tengu, Kodan, and perhaps that odd fish/butterfly race making it onto the scene at this time.. Tho knowing A-net they probably have a lot of surprises left up their sleeves for us.
