No, I am dealing solely with vertical progression and claiming that it is a forced treadmill that you must ride in order to maintain a power level necessary to play the game. Let me give you a hint in arguing against my position. Describe vertical progression in a way that shows it is not a forced grind that must be performed in order to continue playing the game. In the post above you have made an assertion saying my position is wrong. You haven’t shown me where my position is wrong. Worse yet, you’ve resorted to ad hominem by calling me a “bomb thrower”. What you haven’t done is provide a reasoned argument showing that vertical progression is not a gear grind treadmill.

Let’s see…
Forced grind: You have to farm dungeon Xxx at least once a day(if possible 2), you do not enjoy running dungeon Xxx all the time, but it’s the only way to obtain Xxx gear(aka, the next progression step) thus you feel forced.
GW2: You have 3 distinct ways of obtaining gear. WvWvW for karma, dungeons for tokens, open world farming for crafted(and an additional gold making for bought). You can do any of those 3 things to reach your goal. They also happen to be 90% of the content outside spvp. If every single one of those options feels like “forced grind” to you, you are clearly playing the wrong game.
At this very moment we have no reason to believe ascended gear will be locked into one aspect. Actually, the devs specifically said that there will be multiple ways to obtain it and that they will take it out of fotm when they have the whole thing good to go.

Spell caster legendaries are sad

They should make more legendaries for every class theme. For example the shield. That’s a Guardian shield. Only Guardians can look good wielding one (of course, they have that oversized Aegis effect ruining the whole thing, but that’s another issue). I can’t see a warrior dressed all in spikes with a rusty axe in one hand and a gleaming book-shield in another.

Bifrost is great for elementalists – really not so much for necromancers. They need their own themed legendary.

And so on and so forth. Personally, I will be going for some non-legendaries which look way better on my character for half the time/money/effort invested. Incinerator is a good example… it’s too technical. It’s a gadget, something a thief maybe would use (only problem, a thief with a frikkin’ torch, not very subtle), or engineer, if they could use daggers.

Necros have no right to complain about staff skins. Seriously, every single good looking staff in this game has a dead look. BOTH Halloween skins, the pact weapon, the mythical Final Rest. And what does my ele get? A blue ball on a stick and a pink shiney, again, on a stick. Oh, right, and the oversized torch. I’m going for The Bifrost because that’s the one pretty staff that would work(also, my dream is to be a leprechaun, but I can’t equip The Dreamer).

That aside, I do agree there needs to be more variety when it comes to skins, especially with legendaries and event items(I’m still choking on the toy staff vs princess wand thing)…or at least more general themes(because I just can’t see my mesmer shooting butterflies out of the Halloween legendary…I just can’t make it work)

- With a few dozens of gold, you can easily use speed-leveling via crafting, getting a level 80 character in only a few hours.

That’s not directly related to gems though, it’s gold. And a lvl 80 char made through crafting is not better than a lvl 80 char made through exploring or wvw(one can argue, it’s worse, because you lack the experience with the class), it’s just faster.

- With a few thousands of gold, you can buy a Legendary Weapon via TP, and therefore you can easily get one without achieving anything else than being rich in real life.

The current exchange rate puts 1g=$1. If smb is willing to spend $2800 on a skin, more power to them xD Legendaries are still a cosmetic item(and will always be) thus if smb were to spend gems for it, it doesn’t contradict the cosmetic statement. It also, again, doe snot make the buyer better, just lets him/her achieve smth faster.

- Ascended Gears, which are not fully released yet, will be required to spend a lot of gold (and therefore possibly, let’s remind it, dollars) to stuff your character to maximum power, and therefore isn’t that like selling “power”, although we still have to play somehow fractals to get the account bound ingredient?

How exactly do you know the future requirements for ascended gear? I can totally see ascended gear as karma items.

Would any of you happen to be on a European server? Or anybody else willing to take first timers(note: I did successfully get through the wolf guy…it just happened to be on path 4….)… I pwomise to follow like a puppy and do tricks for tokens…

Minimum requirements basically means…you can start the game. Lower than that it’ll like not be able to load. The recommended requirements are the ones that actually allow you to play the game. The better your system(and graphic card in particular), the smoother the game. And, ammm, no you can’t have negative fps. But you can have 0.2 fps(basically, 1 frame/5s).

Wanted to make this post more relevant as I still wait for a fix.

I play rune of the pack which grants 5% chance when hit to buff up yourself and allies.
The thing is when it triggers during a harvest, following mats will be ruined. I experience this quite often.

Repro steps :
- Pull some mobs to the node
- Press your action button (default F)
- Rune triggers
- Enjoy your harvest

I used to play with rune of the citadel, same bug. Dunno which bonus is involved though (#4 or #6).

Addtionally I believe that the Guardian trait : Zeal 5 (Zealot’s Speed) will also ruin your mats the same way.

I get ruined on my mesmer sometimes and I dun use runes there(just some random crests and stuff). So, getting hit by certain skills(or possibly taking a critical hit) definitely has smth to do with it. It’s annoying, but whether it’s a bug or intended…we’d need smb from ANet to tell us…

33% chance of getting a clover per try — according to the wiki…

Saw in the other clover topic that the 33% chance was based on 159 tries, a remarkably low sample size. Wiki is pretty much fan-made, only the devs have the real value. Without that, your calculations are pure guesswork. Also, probability is just that, probable. There is nothing even remotely guaranteed about it.

and how long did you need to get it? i needed about 4 hours if i do the maths on euros into gold. so thats my edge. also i could have had the full exotic set on the moment i hit 80, without farming a copper. thats an edge because you didnt have it back then. i could by the ascended mats or legendary mats without farming a month but farming 3 hours at work. i could buy chests for buffs, the best buff food all the time – without ever farming a minute. i dont see what exactly is hard to see about the fact that 1 person can do in 1 minute IRL what another needs 100 hours for ingame and you dont see the “edge”.. its just acting stupid, its not like the logic doesnt apply to your mind.

I had full exotics the moment I hit 80 without spending a dime on gems. And if you think spending money on a game you aren’t playing gives you an “edge”, well, that’s just stupid. It might be strange to you, but some of us actually like being logged in and doing stuff in GW2. It’s our hobby. Yes, I can buy a lamp for the desk, but I had a great time making one myself from random parts. When people make ship in a bottle or plane models, you think its because they can’t afford to buy one ready? The fun in a hobby is the journey, not the destination.

This is where you’re completely wrong. ‘Fun’ is subjective, and for a lot of people, working towards an imaginary goal is what they consider to be fun. Consider gaming as a hobby, such as building a model ship. You put time, money, and skill into building a replica of the S.S. Booty and all you have to show for it in the end is a pretty trophy. Games are similar to such hobbies in that, at the end of the day, you’ll have a stronger, more personalised avatar with which to show off your dilligence to people who will appreciate your dilligence. People put model ships in bottles and pop them on shelves where they will be entirely useless, garner no further income, and take up space. Yet the person had fun building that model ship, and enjoys showing it off to friends who also enjoy and build model ships of their own.

Saying ’it’s just a game and you shouldn’t have to work for anything because it’s just a game is just a game is just a game" doesn’t work anymore in this day and age. Gaming is a hobby and a passtime as much as anything else, and like any hobby, there are competitive, passionate types who enjoy putting time and effort into things they love and enjoy engrossing themselves in everything the game has to offer, right down to the min-max.

I’m starting to think it’s a language thing. In my mother tongue(a Slavic language), I’d never say I’m working towards smth in a game. I’d use a phrase closer to “to keep oneself busy/entertained”. And from what I’ve encountered in Austria, they don’t say “work” either. Have a friend who builds model air planes as a hobby(native German speaker), he also never said he has to “work” on it, used words like “build”, “create”, “finish”, but never just “work”. Also asked my Dutch fiancé about it…he also said he wouldn’t use “work” when talking about anything he does in a game. I guess in most languages “work” has a negative connotation(smth you feel forced to do and don’t enjoy) and thus people feel that talking about “work” in a game is wrong.

Ok. You can legit buy gold and anything else you want on the gemstore . And you didn’t get your first level 80 in 5 hours. Enough for you, winner?

rarest rewards that have absolutely no impact on your gameplay (how much damage you dish out/can take) probably with the teeny exception of ascended backpiece, and even then its just 1 armor piece.

And when you think about it, you can’t even buy ascended items, because they and their rarest components tend to account bound xD But apparently people see GW2 as Civilisations -w/e number they got to-. A game you can “win”, “finish”. Not as a long term source of entertainment where the journey counts more than the end reward. They actually believe there is a predetermined end to it(as in, the game doesn’t end when you have played for so long, it became boring, but when you have xxx items). It’s just a very messed up perspective.

I wouldn’t call it pay2win as such, but the OP does have a point that a lot of achievements in game can be bought. I also find that disappointing, because it does invalidate a lot of content this way.

Good call, that is the first argument against RMT that has some real merit. I guess there are people that are really serious about achievements, those would certainly be somehow affected by this.

And here I thought the whole point of an achievement was to…achieve it. Not just to have it…

So, my wife and I have played GW2 since beta, and we have had a lot of fun. But now we are starting to see the game for what it actually is : Pay-to-win. A friend of ours started to play and was level 80 in 5 days, because he used $ to buy trade-skill mats to level up. This really made our level 80s seem pretty pointless, because it was then obvious that you can basically “buy” a level 80.

Now there are legendary weapons showing up on the trading post. We are very unhappy with this development. It seems most modern MMOs are all pay to win these day, with their cash-shops and the ability to buy coin. We long for the good old days of an even play field, no matter your standing in real life. I am now starting to look elsewhere for another MMO, even sub-based, with NO real life influence on your character. I worry that those days are over, and my enjoyment of MMO gaming is coming to an end.

My fiancé and I have been playing GW2 for 3 months now. Our first set of lvl 80s took…5 days. 2nd set of lvl 80s took…5h(a bit longer for him, he just doesn’t “get” crafting). It’s certainly the most dramatic distinction between Anet’s business model and a subscription based MMO. I can’t imagine any subscription based MMO being this stingy with a holiday event.

Then you obviously didn’t see Tera EU’s event. You get decorations(as in, trees around the world) and to kill Santas for, guess what, rng boxes. Oh, and a photoshop-based event for 3 players out of…dunno how many Tera still has, but I’m pretty sure it’s more than 3.

Let’s see…

- Grind: If this is the grindiest MMO you ever played, I envy you. 9Dragons featured awesome 5% exp/hour(and that’s with exp event and cash shop account bound exp booster) for the last…50 or so lvls to cap. 2Moons featured 50 000-coin wings, which were so impossible to get on your own, the game was literally infested with gold sellers and nobody thought it was wrong to rmt your wings. But those are pretty old games. let’s look at the other big AAA title of the year: Tera. I got to 60 fairly easy. Then I grinded to get rebirth set. Then I grinded to +9 it. Then I grinded to get a Temple Guardian set. Then I grinded to masterwork it. Then I grinded to +12 it. Just as I was half-done, bam, new patch with a new dungeon to grind for a new set that also had to be masterworked and +12’d(oh, and you needed some special drop that 1 person of 5 got once every 10 runs…you needed a bunch of those to craft the set). That’d be when I got over myself and bought GW2. Which has more than lived up to my casual non-grindy expectations.

- Money: They nerf it so you don’t grind it. Not so you grind it more. I make 5-10g/day. By doing stuff I like doing: gathering, a dungeon run here and there. If you are not making money, it’s because you are trying to grind you rmoney and ANet is trying to stay true to the word of no grind.

- Suitable rewards: Might be wrong, but isn’t AC the lowest lvl dungeon in the game? And isn;t that the dungeon people run the most for money? Theory disproved?

- Magic find: It doesn’t promote anything but a choice. If you want to be underperforming for the chance to get a few extra shineys, well, that’s your choice. I have a mf set, but never use it in dungeons. Strangely enough, I seem to be doing fairly good(better than most forum posters) when it comes to drops/gold.

- Dungeons: Meet karma. Meet crafting. Meet different dungeons. If you are a dungeon grinder, you go for a full set of that dungeon. If you aren’t…you get 1 piece from there, 1 piece from some other dungeon, some pieces with karma etc. Problem solved.

- Crafting: Well, maybe you should craft lvl appropriate items. Then 1 item will get you a few points. That aside, crafting would’ve been useful if people did it on the level. But now it’s a way to plvl alts to 80 with gold. We did this, not ANet.

- The Mystic Forge: Eh, every game has an RNG element. At least this RNG element is purely cosmetic and you won’t get your behind handed to you in pvp for not having a legendary or a named or a w/e.

- Lottery: You seem to be forgetting smth…GW2 is b2p, not p2p. In that sense, it’s closer to a f2p game and it’s been proven over and over again that gambling is a great way to get money. You don’t know what their income is, maybe they need this to keep working on expansions? every time I see players going on and on about greedy companies…I wonder if those players ever had a budget to manage.

What do you view as “normal players”? 1h/week in spvp?! Seriously, if you have 3-10g, you either play extremely little, only spvp or are just doing it wrong. I got pretty much all I wanted from it(mostly extra karma) and so did my fiancé(quagan mini). No real money was spent, at least not our real money. Overall, a fairly good event made with a large audience in mind. Enjoy what you can, let go of the rest.

PS: I just wish I could gift the minis….

I would simply like to state that this post goes against everything GW2 was suppose to be about. GW2 was suppose to be for evvery type of player, the spvp shut in, the 1h/week busy body, the no life 24/7s, even the the hourly casual. By saying that they are doing it wrong is in no way supporting Anet, in fact, in a backwards way, you are insulting them as well.

You do realise there is a difference between “something for everybody” and “everything for everybody”, right? Let’s look at this event:
- the spvp shut-in gets the Snowball Mayhem
- the 1h/week guy gets, I’d say, the gem minis(because if you work so much you only have 1h/week for games, you should be making enough money) or the jumping puzzle or Tixx-related events
- the hourly casual gets the…random stuff they feel like doing
But I guess you are right. I’ll go make a topic now about how I feel lied to, because I’m not lvl 150 in spvp and they promised it’s for everybody. I mean, I’m not doing any spvp, but I deserve to be rank 150 because I say so… Wait, that doesn’t exactly make sense to me. How about you?

I’ve never seen a more uncompassionate person in a MMO forum.

Apparently you’ve never had a disabled or dying person to take care of by yourself.

Meanness will never make this game better – you’d better grow up and learn some compassion soon.

Oh, I don’t want to be compassionate. It’s such an empty word. It’s the “get out of helping free”-card. When I was 9 and my mom was sick, I heard it so often after the hospital said the ambulance will take 4h: “I’m really sorry for you and your mom, trust me, I feel for you, but I’m just too busy right now to drive you to the hospiatl, but I’m really really sorry”. And you obviously pride yourself on being compassionate…which further proves that compassion is just an excuse. Because if you truly cared, you wouldn;t be sitting here and typing on a game forum. You’d be building houses in Africa or feeding children in Asia. But you aren’t. Because you are so “compassionate”. On paper.

um wait the golden rule applies only to certain circumstances?
last time i checked being decent to other ppl is something you should always be doing

That being the point. Just because you should doesn’t mean you do or want to. If you read this golden rule, you’ll notice it connects the way you treat others to the way they treat you. It’s not just “be nice”. And that is the other part of the point. The whole rule is based on “actions have consequences”. If you mistreat others, they will mistreat you in return. But that simply can’t happen in a pug in a game with thousands of players. You can’t retaliate in GW2.

As a solo gamer: Holidays are a pain.

It’s called the Golden Rule, and I don’t mean ‘he who has the gold makes the rules’. It’s ‘do unto others as you would have done unto you’. While I have my days, I try to be a nice person. I hope that I succeed. I hope that others try as well. Admittedly more often than not, I am disappointed in others, which is sad. When people take the time to follow the Golden Rule, it makes things better all around. Even for strangers on the internet.

You see, your rule only applies to actions that can have repercussions. Which is pretty much my point. In a game with thousands of people, you’ll rarely run into the same pug guy twice thus there is no crime and punishment aspect(you can also roll a new char or change server if you really are deep in). That’s also why you find more tolerance and understanding in a guild. Those people know they have to face you again. And, well, most people are not nice by nature but by necessity. There are a lot of factors that determine our behaviour, but on the internet…there is no fear of consequences…no shame(because you are anonymous)…no real dependence on others(as opposed to a boss or teacher)…no caring(because you don’t know these people). And that makes it the perfect venting place. When your boss screws up, you can’t call him an idiot(no matter how much you want to). But that random guy in GW2?

As a solo gamer: Holidays are a pain.

That’s just it. I -never know exactly- when he will call.

I meant knowing as opposed to an emergency/unforeseeable event. Like, you know your husband is sick and might need you. I don’t know that the dikes will break and I’ll find myself swimming(I live in -that- part of NL…and I can’t swim….this can’t be good…)

Yet I, and others like me, are still shown abuse for choosing a solo path. Like I said. Kittened if I do, kittened if I don’t. It would still be nice if strangers showed some compassion, even if it was just refraining from making nasty comments about the choice to solo in a MMO.

What kind of abuse?!

Who made nasty comments about the choice to solo in an MMO? Such comments come when soloers try to demand more and from people who knows what happens. You solo by choice and like every choice, it has consequences. Whether your choice is a great one that deserves respect(and it does, not many people could do what you are doing) is, after all, irrelevant. Because it’s an MMO and as such, should be oriented towards group play and not solo play. GW2 already has plenty aspects that a solo player can enjoy, dungeons are the only activity that’s mostly out of reach for smb in your situation. And that’s where the whole social thing comes in.

That doesn’t mean I have to accept being looked down upon for being between a rock and a hard place.

Who’s looking down upon you?

I’d love to be able to solo dungeons(because I’m terrified of going in Arah with a pug and always end up in wvwvw guilds -.-‘’), but knowing how it’d affect GW2, a game that already promotes solo play and antisocial behaviour…I don’t want that. Because even thought it’d be great for me, I don’t think it’d be great for the game.

Lastly, in general, I also don’t understand people who expect strangers on the internet to show them courtesy or have common decency or anything. It’s the world of Anonymous.

As a solo gamer: Holidays are a pain.

For those of you who heap scorn on those, like myself, who choose the solo path for reasons relating to real life issues, I challenge you: Take on one of us. Be understanding when we need to go AFK at inconvenient times. Don’t accuse us of leeching XP/rewards/whatever if we are AFK for extended periods.

-snip-

I’d like to team to do these. I really would. But nothing in this forum, and nothing I’ve experienced in the past, shows me that, outside of my tiny crew, I’ll find anything but frustration and discourtesy. I have every sympathy for those who are in the same boat as me.

Here are the issues I have with your post:
- This is your situation and you have to deal with it. Not some random people you met today.
- You expect courtesy from strangers, yet can’t show them the same? I could never understand how smb can go in a dungeon with a pug group knowing that they might not be available for the run(emergencies happen, bio breaks happen, can’t see it coming, but when you know…). I’ve had issues that put me in such situation. And if I knew there is a chance I might have to leave(from pc/net issues through sick cat to on-call at work), I simply didn’t pug. Because I feel bad when I’m leeching(being afk while the rest are doing stuff and you get a reward for it is the definition of leeching) or making people wait on me)in case they can’t keep going without me).
- You say you are in it for the social aspect, right? Well, be social. Join a big guild, talk to people. Strangers don’t care. And you can’t expect them to, because they are, well, strangers. Guildies are somewhere between friends and strangers. Even if you never said a word to them, they are far more likely to accept and tolerate you(unless it’s impossible to progress without u), at least for a while.

In GW2 you have to get out of dodge fast when an enemy is coming at you, dodging attacks and running like a madman. All of this while managing combo fields (unless you are a crap player) and still maintaining a decent rotation?

I raided for 5 years in WoW and 1.5 in Rift, switching between tank, healer and dps, and I can say dungeoning in this game is an entirely different beast. But my favorite part is watching self proclaimed “skilled” raiders from other games come here, get roflstomped in a dungeon, and go home saying GW2 sucks.

I never played WoW(or Rift), so can’t talk bout carrying or skill req there, but…
You think dodging is hard and requires skill? That’s laughable. The only “skill” needed is because, well, I actually don’t know what the problem is(maybe it doesn’t work with inv frames?), but it’s extremely random. I have been killed in the middle of a dodge animation. Example: ice worm balls can(and should) be dodged just as they are about to hit you, while the push-pull mobs in Orr you have to dodge when they start the animation and not when the axe is about to hit you(then you get dragged middodge) which is weird, because I dodge and 1s later “evade”(i’m already out of the animation and running when i somehow “evade” the hit). The only skill is to know when to dodge the particular skill. Now compare it to other games. Like, 9Dragons. Where good pvp healers had to see the nuke coming before it was even casted so we could move out of range and, ya know, not die. Red circles have been a part of MMOs ever since I started gaming, so that’s not special either.

Yeah, as opposed to keeping buffs on your party, debuffs on the enemy, making sure everybody’s hp is good, avoiding attacks, dpsing yourself, refilling mana every-so-often, being familiar with every single debuff icon in the game(and since those are often reused, knowing what enemy does what debuff), not having the luxury of “rotation”, because the situation and your priorities change every second, even knowing the sounds skills make(to heal a raid in Aika successfully I had to know that…because…stealthers and all). That’d be what I, as a haler, do most of the time(at least when I’m at the top of my game and not being lazy in a corner) in pretty much every game I played. Compared to that…GW2 is half-asleep mode.

33/100 is straight-up 33%, only slightly less.

What do you mean, slightly less?!

Anyway, accept it as completely random. The % chance is absolutely irrelevant to the players, because it’s independent for each try. Having in mind the drop table of the recipe, I’d say it’s less than 33%. My first 8 clovers took…dunnno…40-50 tries at least(got the very first clover after 20 >.<). Couple days ago, 76 tries -> 30 clovers. Next batch will be of 39 xD

Forgot to include this, but if I’m wrong you should totally call me out. If you don’t think MF was a total wiff on GW2s part and you actually PREFER this method as a means to acquire new gear (than a traditional vendor) feel free to state your case.

I have yet to try and acquire gear from MF. That’s what crafting, karma, dungeon tokens, drops/chest etc are for. MF is for fluff and upgrades.

if it was not a bug they wouldn’t have disabled it. don’t you think ?
and bug exploiters are bannable.
You could have written: “each time someone exploit a bug everyone will call him an exploiter”

And if they disabled it, how did anybody exploit it? Oh, right, they did so before it was declared a bug. That’s why I’m generally against banning for exploits(except in some really obvious cases*). Whether smth is an exploit or feature depends on the intention of the developers which we, as mere players, have no way of knowing/verifying.

*If smth requires you to jump through hoops to achieve(like, jump on this exact spot to get through/over a wall, place a boss on a certain place to disable an attack) it’s most likely an exploit. But crafting and salvaging items for ectos? That’s been a part of the game since I started playing it 3 months ago. I wonder…how many of you “ban the exploiters” have used a mesmer portal to get to a chest in a JP…or did you think devs intended you to do that?

Actually they need to implement a system that guild wars 1 used to great success….. Collectors!!! It gave otherwise useless items meaning and let players collect items and trade them for good things….. That’s kinda what the karma vendors were supposed to be but there’s many trophy items and grey trash items that could easily be converted over to be used….

I mean really collecting golen ren relics from gw1 to get the blindfold…. Anyone else remember that….. Or the diessa chalice for the dread mask…. They just need to put that system in place and make it so we have to collect spacific items to trade to the collectors to get another item that we can put into the forge to create the precurser or other items that we want…..

That’s just a dream though they won’t do that…

Because a legendary doesn’t require any item collecting, right? Oh, wait, the gifts would like to disagree.

There was a Twilight listed for 9500 gold. No i did not add an extra zero. The listing price alone on it before selling, is 475 gold, not to mention the cost to make such a weapon is huge.

That weapon was relisted at least 4 times, price varying between 800 and 9500g. Anyway… They promised a scavenger hunt some time in the future. Why they make it so complicated is beyond me when there is already a system in place that can work for it just by adding an npc that trades acc bound precursors for achievement points…

How to safely spot a bot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TWMagimay.9057

TWMagimay.9057

So at what point is it safe to say that a character is being controlled by a bot and not by a player?
I have seen player characters who run around naked, attacking the same mobs over and over again, when they die they respawn at the nearest waypoint and repeat.

I’d give this one a 50% chance of being a bot. It could also by smb who really doesn’t like repairs xD

I have seen characters run around in the same paths over and over again.

10%. For it to be a bot, it’d have to run the exact same path, to the pixel. More likely smb gathering or looking for ori(I know I run around in circles like a chicken when I’m missing the last node >.<)

I have seen characters basically teleport from one mob to another, and the same with gathering nodes such as veins and lumber.

If they are teleporting without a skill animation…that’s fishy. If they burst into butterflies, it’s a mesmer.

So, when is it safe to report a character for botting?

The safest bet is when you see a group of chars, some of them lvl 10-40, in a lvl 70-80 area who stand on top of each other, keep attacking mobs and ressing each other from downed without reacting to anything that happens around them.

PS: Why do EU servers have more bots than US servers?

What’s to say, that by the end of event, they won’t all be available for sale? You’re jumping to conclusions before the end of the event.

Because everybody wants to spend thousands of gems on boxes just to see the pets in the store for 300-400 gem each, right? Makes total sense, nothing to be angry about. The minipet part of the event is beyond recover. Spare for some heavy roll backs, there is absolutely nothing ANet can do to fix it.

It seems that way. People like to rage and complain, why wait and see if Arena Net changes anything before the end of the event? By buying now, they garuntee that they have something else to rage about later if Arena Net makes them easier to get. People love to rage.

PS: Stop exaggerating, there are plenty of changes ArenaNet could make, but no matter what they do, people will find something to rage about, because that’s just what some people have to do.

Name one way they could change the minis that won’t screw players over. Just one. Note: current system is:
- 3 minis in RNG box, 4th crafted with those 3
- 2/5 minis from dungeon, 5/5 minis in gem store for 350 gems

TWMagimay.9057

How in the world does giving them an OPTION to solo possibly ruin your gaming experience so much to inspire such contempt and sarcasm?

That’d be basic human nature. Most people when given the choice between looking for a group or running the dungeon solo will opt for soloing. Which in turn reduces the amount of player available for a party. Take it to the extreme. Let’s say at any given time there are 5 people who want to run dungeon A. Right now, those 5 people will come together and do it. With dungeon scaling, at least 1 of them(from my experience with MMOs who had that feature, it’d be more like 3-4 of them) would rather do it solo than bother looking for group. As a result there are 4 people sitting somewhere shouting “lf1m dungeon A”. Until another one decides to run it solo, cause it’d be faster. And them another one. Until there are 5 people soloing dungeon A and nobody is running it in a party. And that’d be how the option to solo affects those who’d rather go with a party.

PS: You want the minis without having to group up? Here’s a wacky idea: go farm gold solo, buy gems and then buy the pets. If you set your mind to it, you can buy 1 pet/day. Or 1 pet/2 days without trying too hard.

I think the comment, “all five days.” imply’s that we won’t be able to repeat the quests after Tixx has arrived in Lion’s Arch. Can you do the quest on alternate characters?

It implies nothing, because the event is not 5 days long and they said we’ll be able to rerun the paths(somewhere, i know i read it, LA part and all). The dev answer is misleading at best, horribly depressing at worst….

In my view, people will join WvW to farm nodes

in Wintersday

Posted by: TWMagimay.9057

TWMagimay.9057

Yet people are, and they are using up queue slots to do it. Think about it, you might goto a lower level zone and get yourself a few presents. If you do it in wvw though you can always leech off others hard work, and money spent, and gain that too.

As others have said, add them as rewards for keeping/taking objectives. Remove the pve crap.

Oh, and yes it is a resource node. You guys just kind of lied about not adding it to wvw.

Well, TC hasn’t had any special queue times(except the usual after-reset-all-get-in moment). Also, -jaw drop- at the hard work of opening presents.

Is it really causing that much of a problem?

Not “that much”, but to some extent, yes, it does.

For instance, I am pretty annoyed by the following design faux-pas: In Stonemist Castle, Mysterious Present boxes drop right on the mortars on the top level of the castle. Some kitten player will inevitably click on the boxes to let them explode, which a) sets a number of mobs free in the castle to which distracts the defenders and b) launches the player operating the mortar and, thus, interrupts the defense. In fact, I have been launched to my death twice (SM top floor to courtyard in less than 2 seconds) by those kitten boxes.

I understand that it is well meant to provide WvW players the same access to the festivities as any other player in the game, However, I would really appreciate if the event changes to WvW would be purely cosmetical (decorative snowmen, Wintersday trees, candycane poles, you name it) with no influence to the gameplay mechanic whatsoever. Keep the game mechanic changes in PvE. I am under the impression that this would be also appreciated by the majority of the WvW community.

~MRA

Wouldn’t it be better to just tweak the spawn locations(like, not inside structures or near edges) instead of removing them altogether? Not that I care much about them staying in wvw, i’m not stupid enough to go farm presents there when I have perfectly good pve maps for that….was just wondering…since your issue seems to be with where they are…

As a solo gamer: Holidays are a pain.

TWMagimay.9057

What I’m asking for is not for new content to be single-player – it’s for it to offer a single-player option, or to scale with the number of people. Currently, Holiday events seem to emphasize group play more than anything, to the point where it’s borderline impossible to do them alone – and a slog through hordes to find out that the boss is just too much.

Think about it. The current "instance’ is so ridiculously easy(and that comes from smb who’s afraid to run TA), that if they were to make it scale…they’d either have to make the already sort of soloable content even easier thus everybody will be roflstomping it(and then people will complain that xxx is dead, nobody to do this or that). Or they’ll have to increase the 5men difficulty making what should be a fun holiday activity into a pain in the…kitten(and then we’ll have the fotm fiasco again). I find the current arrangement pretty good. You can solo it if you really really want. You can do just fine with 2 people and you can roll over it with 3-5.

Yup, every time you complete it there will be a chest at the end waiting for you to open. The loot from the chests (presents) doesn’t change I don’t think but what’s inside the presents is random chance.

But does the loot from the chest itself change? First run got 3 different things, 2nd and 3rd time only presents. Was I just unlucky there or is the “good stuff” only once(a day?)?

Signet of Air

in Elementalist

Posted by: TWMagimay.9057

TWMagimay.9057

You can get near-perma swiftness with just Windborne Speed and Glyph of Elemental Harmony. No need to jump through hoops.

With the +boon duration rune build however, using the earth/air combo, windborne speed and the glyph, one can get nearly a minute of swiftness.

So all in all, is Signet of Air a good skill now? Well, it’s ok. It’s redundant in most builds though, but there may be a few builds that can make use of it now. At least it’s somewhat usable compared to the other 3 signets. All in all, an ok change. Nothing great but not bad enough to complain about it either.

But when running around Orr there is a need to cleanse stuff. Often. Which makes ER a better skill(+lower cd). And you need certain runes to pull it off without static field. Anyway, I was just reminding D/D eles that just because their perma swiftness is “passive” thus making SoA useless, other weapons don’t have that luxury making SoA a pretty ok skill.

PS: Which of the 4 other signets would be the “usable” one?

Idle talk, as always, “there are plenty other mmorpgs”. Name a couple, then, where
- you can level without killing, just by helping NPCs,
- you have a nice, detailed, liverly world with NPC-chats worth to listen to,
- you can craft as good equipment as you can get by other means.

Forsaken World and Tera come to mind…

It’s not. But when people have nothing real to whine about, they tend to pull stuff out of their…kittens? Nobody in their right mind would go to WvWvW to farm presents when lvl 1-15 maps have an abundance of those….
