11-12k is just plain too low for just about anything, though.

Really? Cause I have ~12k hp and do just fine. Must be doing smth wrong….

Anyway…@OP… Sounds very close to my build. I would suggest Glyph of Storms instead of one of the signets. Using it in earth helps a lot with surviving. From there on, it’s all about kiting the mobs. All it really takes is practice. Ofc, you will still die sometimes, but not nearly often enough to be a problem. Actually, when you get used to the playstyle, you’ll be one of the toughest players in any party. Until then, take thieves, most of them go down so fast and often, nobody would even notice you getting downed xD

Can you plz answer a question?

Seems to be pretty obvious to me. “Rare” means the next tier crafting material. So for example all the light gear you loot from Orr or any 80 are “made of” silk, which means that when salvaging them, u normally get silk. If you use better salvage kits, then it gives you a slightly better chance to get gossamer scrap instead. (Same for wood log, and mithril – orichalcum imo.) But if you ask me, it is not worth the difference in the price of those salvage kits, use simple ones.

That doesn’t seem obvious at all. For one, getting T6 seems to depend more on the item type than on anything else(axes almost always get salvaged into ori ore even with basic kit while I never got an ori from a dagger). For two, that’d suggest that using basic kit on an exotic would give the same results as using a BL one and it’ll always be ori/ancient/etc(I salvaged 2 lvl 80 exotic daggers into mithril despite me personally making them with ori).

Lost Shores: Creating Winners vs. Losers

I don’t like the notion that everyone should be a winner. This attitude is a real issue with people these days because in the real world, not everyone is a winner.

But I didn’t buy Real World 2, did I?

Anyway…I can generally get over a lot of things…poor loot…bad lag…and all the frustration that comes with it….but the one thing that bugs me about this event and I just don’t understand is…GW2 was oversold at release(as in, they sold copies to more peopel than the servers could accommodate). Nothing wrong with that as long as you don’t design an event that tries to get everybody online at the same time when you know very well that your severs simply can’t deal with it. My fiancé logged in from the start, I was a bit late. By the time I could get online…the log in server was apparently down. A few mins later he dced and we were both locked out of the game for 10-15min. After that we simply stopped trying and called it a day….then we found out what we missed due to no fault of our own…and we both hated it….

I couldn’t get through on the geysers, so I used Dulfy’s shortcut and then walked across the few geyser towers between me and the 1st ship. It was tricky and I got burned off the edge quite a bit, but way better than trying to go through the geysers.

I hope ANet starts doing a timed/non-timed way up in future jumping puzzles instead of just timed.

And didn;t you get the exploiter achievement for it? I’m starting to understand why those chests have such bad loot…

As for OP’s issue…get One With Air and all your problems will be solved. That trait alone makes all jumping puzzles so much easier(also because random speed buffs don’t screw you over).

switching a crafting skill

in Crafting

Posted by: TWMagimay.9057

TWMagimay.9057

Yes, you can switch to another crafting skill. You need a master crafter to do this.

There’s a cost, and it depends on your character’s skill in the craft you’re switching to. 10c per level in the craft.

EX: Switch to Jewelery Crafting and have 0 in the skill, pay 0. Switch to Armorsmithing and have 100 in the skill, pay 1s. Costs 40s to activate a crafting level if you have max in that skill.

You misunderstood the question, I think…Op wants to transfer a crafting skill from 1 char to another, not switch crafting skills on the same char…which, afaik, isn’t possible.

These issues have a lot less priority than an increase in CD by double, and are probably 20 times harder to implement changes for that will not result in something else being bugged.

You mean, like the 60s extra cd on Glyph of Elementals? Yeah, ammm, when do you think the fix on that one is coming?

sigh Wouldn’t it be nice if we had more players who just enjoy helping others doing something for the first time, enjoying the content, instead of always going for the most profitable activity? (I just spent the last 2 hours accompanying a friend I invited, running around Metrica province…and I had so much fun )

You had that fun helping a friend. That’s the difference. Have you ever tried helping a complete stranger? There is a reason people avoid it. For one, communication is worse(you wouldn’t have voice com with smb you never met before). For two, a lot of people fail at following basic instructions. For three, people do help others. It’s just that people are more prone to help those they know and not strangers. Because strangers tend to take your help for granted and become abusive if you can’t help them right away. I learned how bad being nice and helpful is in my previous MMO when my block list got full 2 days after the server found out my party was helping people finish the hardest dungeon in the game for story Q. The tank, the ranger and me(healer) were getting publicly insulted and harassed every time we refused to run smb through that dungeon. Even though we’d already helped over 100 people with it. And this topic proves that the GW2 community isn’t much better. Everybody acts like others owe you help and starts insulting when that help isn;t given. Tell me, what reason would anybody have to be the nice guy?

Have you been paying attention to the rest of the game? Mobs? Loot? XP? They’re shared (heck, in the first couple weeks there were people who gave high end loot to random people in the same zone with them if they couldn’t use it). Quests? Done dynamically with others to achieve a common goal. Healing and rezzing? They give you xp to give you a benefit for helping someone out.

Fractal levels? I’ve got mine, go find someone to run at whatever arbitrary level I’m not at. Do you see the disconnect here? There needs to be a system to encourage people working together beyond thinking how can I get the most loot for myself as fast as possible?

So? Did you see some random lvl 80 go to CF because you need help with it? No? Weird, huh. In every aspect of the game people help each other to achieve common goals. Not your goals or my goals. Our goals. But since you are so nice, how would you like to help me get a -insert dungeon here- set? I mean, you don’t need anything from -insert same dungeon here-, but I do. So, leave your server name in your next post, I’ll find you and you have to run any dungeon I feel like, because otherwise you are just being mean for not wanting to help me progress my char. And I’ll also tell my guildies about your nice offer, so you can keep running dungeons you don’t need anything from. That’s what GW2 is all about, right?

Putting gems/runes/whatever into something soulbinds it for whatever reason (not counted if it comes with that inside it, like a ring does).

And then you have to soulbind it again when you try to equip it(which totally makes sense, right?). But at least that warns you about soulbinding, unlike transmuting items, where it’s part of the deal and you don’t even have to accept it.

No, you don’t.

You don’t what?

Soulbind it again when you want to equip it.

How about you go check it? If you upgrade an item and then try to equip it, it asks you if you want to soulbind it. I’m about 80% sure that upgrading actually makes items accountbound and the soulbound part is just a mistake. I’ll just have to check it better when I make my next exotic(the rare focus I got myself ended up accountbound after upgrading, but I can’t be sure about exotics since I never actually tried).

What the puppy gave you the idea that GW2 should promote pug play? Was it the lack of LFG system? Or maybe the lack of a match-maker? Or could it have been the lack of inter-channel/map communication? Obviously this dungeon was supposed to promote social play. As in, talking to others, being part of a group and, well, knowing people. You choose to rely on a system that’s not even in the game and then complain about players being selfish, because they’d rather do what they want to do instead of doing what you want to do. How does that even remotely make sense?! Seriously, I’m as anti-social as it gets and still had no problem getting 3 lvl 7 guildies to run lvl1-5 with me. And the guild I’m in only has 20-ish members total….

In pve…1 mob I’d stick to air…a bunch of easy mobs – fire…a bunch of holy puppy…earth5→water→whirlpool then keep rotating mostly 5-2 combinations till everything is dead. But generally, I put cc > dmg cause… kitten it I hate playing in 3d when the game is 2d….

Fine some people have equipment and skills do do it – What is with normal players? Should this become an elite-dungeon only for a selected elite of players?

Normal players can play with other normal players. How hard is it to understand? Or would you like to be a “normal” player who gets carried through dungeons by elite players? I guess that is, after all, the real issue. Not finding a group, but finding a group that is too good for you. Works in other dungeons, but this one doesn’t let you…tough luck.

Stationary target because you need to prepare your heal with eruption for it to be worth anything, and with cast times that´s good 2-3 second process. on top of that with recuded finisher amount, you´ll need to make sure people stay in your heals.

As opposed to before when you could see people on low health (usualy running franticly), throw a field towards them and cap off with dual finisher(dodge+arcane wave). Kept you both mobile, didn´t require recipient to set up a camp inside your heal and rewarded skillful play and observation.

Oh, I see. Because, obviously, team play is for noobs and not the skillful gameplay of 1 person doing everything. I always lay my fields on those who need them, they finish them themselves and magic happens. Guess I’m just not as good as you are. Point being, you created a playstyle that wasn;t supposed to exist based on a trait that was clearly bugged. And now it’s “harder”. -pause for a duhhhh-

Well, staff support is still odable, but now it reuires stationary target for heals to work…which means someone tanking a mob.

So now we have tanks and healers….

Screw dungeons. Im more worried about sPVP. Theres no such thing as teamwork in sPVP. I barely get ressed most of the time when I get downed. I MF and wander off to a corner where I hope enemies wont notice me so I can spend a minute healing my own kittening self.

Did you actually try sPvP? I did today(for the new daily) for the first time as ele…had quite the blast without blasting anything. Got downed 2 times total in 3 matches, rallied once because 2 of the enemy went down same time I did and died the other time. And, no, I didn’t spent the time hiding around since I literally didn’t care about score or anything. Ofc, my build never depended on 1 bugged trait to be effective to begin with…

Anyway…what else would work for staff? Signet build works fine for me. Glyph-build can also be effective. Cantrips? Each of those is an option that can go with staff, combos isn;t the the only way.

Lastly, the game wasn’t meant for 1 person to carry everybody else. If your dungeon party is a PUG that can’t support themselves…tough luck. I run dungeons with people who spent 90% of their time in WvWvW and we still don’t wipe on every corner. Because they have a faint idea of how their skills work. Since the -curses quietly- devs decided the game doesn;t need a healer, why would you expect to be one?

I’m kind of at a loss too. I used staff heavily in dungeons as support and buffing with fields and Evasive Arcana to combo blast.

Same with me. Please share any alternative build for dungeon support ele.

Here’s a build. Take 4 other people in that dungeon and make sure they know what a “blast finisher” is. Problem solved. Seriously, stop looking at dungeons as if you have to solo them. The selling point of the whole puppy game was team work and stuff. You are not supposed to support everybody all the time, you provide the field, they finish it. It’s THAT simple. It’s also how I’ve been playing the whole time and, strange enough, it works!

Right, I forget about Phantasmal Mage as it’s so underwhelming, I hardly use it. The Prestige is the only reason to use Torch, IMO, and mainly for stealth because you have to do nothing (no damage) while using it.

Well, that is your issue. I use it to give chaos armour to everybody and that useless retaliation from the mage has saved my party in dungeons often enough. But your preference or mine doesn’t matter, rally, it’s still a buff.

As for the person you’re referring to that ’yay’ed stuff, it’s the same person you’re replying to (me). I indeed read the patch notes as I was reading the OP. The reason I ’yay’ed first was because people ‘boo hoo’ed first before actually researching too. Yeah it’s a bummer that Mist Form still doesn’t work…maybe it will work with the trait eventually…and maybe Tornado will be considered a cantrip or something. It really is an awful ability…

Oh, sorry bout that, didn’t feel like checking names and went with the more general approach.
The 6th reply in this very topic mentions that the fix didn’t work. Which is what I meant with not reading. You know that picture of the black guy shouting “Read the * topic before you ** post”? That just came to mind when I saw the YAY. And the “eventually” is what bothers most people. It’s mostly the disappointment, I think. People read the notes and expected 60s cd, they logged in and tooltip said 60s cd. And then…75s cd….

Still, it’s far and away removing the ONLY viable means of playing elementalist, this patch that is.

Oh, that I completely agree with. As I said, none of the changes actually affect my gameplay in any way. I do just fine and will continue doing so(unless Written in Stone gets some weird “fix” in which case…hello, mesmer!). I also dun understand why staff should be useless now…but, meh, that’s an argument one can’t win….

Lawl Prestige…Might actually care if Torch wasn’t generally garbage since it summons no illusions.

But yeah, the only real buff to them was to Moa. Phantasm redux did work, just not across the board and uniformly. Now it might actually be worth using on a Phantasm build.

Wait, what? Torch is off-hand… It has it’s Phantasm)confusion/retaliation) just like every other offhand weapon and no clones, just like every other off-hand weapon. What it does have is a blast finisher and is a nice support weapon. Mesmers from my guild reported 2k+ with Prestige without counting the conditions…

Well, that is a fix, and a good one at that.

Also, the guy QQed about the mesmer changes…I see nothing to QQ about(and, yes, I have mesmer also). The only thing you can call a nerf if the LOS on phantasms(no more phantasms on wvw walls, I guess). And when you think about how they fixed the EA)since that poster was claiming mesmer to be worse off)….yeah, that’d have been like completely obliterating phantasms until the next patch xD

It’s the thought that counts, IMO. Mist Form is suppose to cool down faster with the trait rather than it being changed from a Cantrip to a Transformation which has no trait to decrease cooldown. It will get fixed and this is one step closer.

That wasn’t my point though. The guy YAY’d for the fix without even knowing it hasn;t occurred. As for the thought counting….They have those test servers, don’t they? Didn;t anybody bother checking?! You choose to think they meant well. I choose to think they didn;t care and hoped nobody will notice(because a number in the tooltip is much easier to change than an actual skill).

It will remove conditions quicker, AFAIK. It has the same amount of pulses, just faster. If anything, because it casts faster, that means it will start recharging faster and therefore = more available healing.

Well, that does sound nice, I guess. Like I said, I don’t use it(felt too locked in the animation and conditions don’t always come at the speed required)…+ I have Written in Stone which makes SoR sparkle…. It was just curiosity, guess we’ll see the reactions when people actually put it to the test…

Lol well can’t please everyone.

The way I see it, the game is a continual work-in-progress and changes that are meant to come will come. Just be glad you’re not a Mesmer (like me) and nearly all your good skills got nerfed (need LoS, the ‘attack’ must connect and the target must be harmable or else your illusion will fail)…except Moa Morph which now can turn people into Tuna underwater…

My opinion:
crosses fingers with Magnetic Grasp/RtL It feels like those skills have gotten worse since I started playing, that is more and more buggier…

Evasive Arcana…lol, it felt a bit pointless on Dagger/Dagger anyway and just made Staff broken. Needed to be done, IMO.

YaY for Ether Renewal! It is probably the best heal now while Signet of Restoration is still #*!@.

Yay for my cantrips. Now I can use Mist Form more.

Yay for my Scepter/Focus! Now I can buff team might with Fire Wall + Dragon’s Tooth + Phoenix! And I can finally tell when Magnetic Wave stops reflecting stuff!

They’re trying to make the conjures more attractive…let’s see if it works…

Everything else is probably meh…the worst that could come of this is 30 in Arcane isn’t such a no-brainer…although I didn’t keep 30 in Arcane for very long.

Awww, poor mesmers.
- 100% dmg increase on presitge
- Moa usable under water and pulls necors out of DS
- Phantasm cd reduction trait works
Let’s sit in a circle and cry about how horrible it is that mesmers can’t cast phantasms through walls any more and have longer cd on portal.

And YAY for you not only not checking, but also not reading. Enough people confimred that MF cd still isn;t fixed.

Btw, bout ER…doesn;t less duration = less pulses = less condition removal? I can’t really place myself in a situation where I can reliably check it….and I use SoR as main heal anyway, but was just wondering…

Overall, the patch notes don’t affect me, but it still looks pretty bad for those who used most of it….

Very constructive. Apparently I hit a nerve with people. Kudos to me. I already moved on so like, keep posting or whatever, but I won’t be checking this topic. My work’s done.

“Hey, I just realised that everybody is making fun of me and my careful calculations were wasted, so I’m gonna pretend I don’t care and try to move on with dignity while secretly watching the topic hoping smb will agree with me”.

You made pointless test of an issue that doesn’t exist. Your test actually proves how unimportant the whole thing is. Then when people told you that you are doing it wrong(ele was my first char, I left CF with all weapon skills unlocked by just doing all hearts and a few events I ran into), you got all butthurt and decided to use the most unbelievable forum excuse ever(“I didn’t actually mean that, I was just trolling, yay me”). Lastly, unlocking ele skills is not an issue for anybody with a working computer(which I assume is the entire playerbase of GW2, exceptions exist as proven by OP).

You act like every single class in every game are balanced equally. They’re not. They never will be, the best you can do is get them relatively close.

We can go round and round with this. Some classes will always have a higher skill cap than others. Druids were horrible at the beginning of WoW. Hardly anyone played them, but I liked it because it required more attention than other classes. Later on druids got a bunch of bug fixes and some buffs, but the fact remains that the people who were terrible at the class before were still terrible and struggled. (This is before everything became easy mode)

I’m not against some small buffs / small bug fixes. Mostly bug fixes. But if you think getting buffs is going to change your ability to play the class. You’re in for a surprise……

It’s funny how with every post you make, you prove me right. Obviously druids being horrible wasn’t fine(even though you enjoyed it) and, surprise, the class got changed(I’d like to point out I never played WoW so I’m basing it on the proof you give). Ofc, there will never be perfect balance, but there has to be some. It’s one of the things I liked in 2Moons. Every few months they did a complete class revamp, nerfing and buffing skills all the time to get a better balance(or at least give you the hope that, yeah, class A is OP/UP, but that will change soon enough).

I actually do just fine on my ele. But it bothers me that…I see eles talking about 14k hp with vit based gear and stuff. My mesmer has 18k hp in random puppies(while an ele in the same gear would have less than 11k). And she also has clones to protect her hp. What gives?! It’s that basic stuff that makes no sense at all. Or why can’t I choose to wear heavy armour? They take out tanks and healers and then create classes that mimic the playstyle, while calling it “equal”. Well, it’s not. Some classes are tankier by design, others can support better also by design…. It feel fake…

Fair enough, but unlike Art, which is boundless, a Video Game has boundaries. Learning these, combined with practice, can allow anyone to excel at any profession in any area of the game. Art, on the other hand, will always leave room to expand, giving someone with talent a head start that someone without talent may never catch up to. Assuming they both work equally hard at it, the one without talent can reach the level that the one with was at, but the one with talent will have long left that level. In more time, he could again reach the level of the one with talent, but the one with talent has once again gone farther.

I don’t believe that one can be naturally superior at one profession than another. He may go into one with a mindset that is more applicable within that profession’s utilities, giving what could appear as natural talent, but learning another profession’s strengths and adjusting one’s mindset to compliment it, will allow success at another. He could potentially reach the skill cap for multiple professions.

Perhaps I’m just being biased though, personally being able to pick any role of any game, and with time, excelling within it.

Let me put it a bit different. Guy A can draw real good. Guy B can sing real good. Sure, guy B can go and put a lot of effort into drawing, but if guy B would put the same effort into singing, guy B could be the next insert famous singer here.

And, yes, there are some people who are simply good at games, they can take any class, any game and play it like a pro. There are also people who are mediocre at everything but think they are pro. But most people excel at one thing only while performing mediocre at another. It might also have smth to do with what people actually enjoy doing. But I have seen enough people playing their mains and their alts… My best example… In my last game my gaming partner started off as a warrior. He was good at it, but not really exceptional. Then he decided to roll a lancer, to see how it goes. By lvl 20 it was already obvious that he’ll be an exceptional tank. He’d never played a tank before(mostly healers and rangers), yet that class just clicked for him. Without putting in any effort whatsoever, he became the single best tank on the server in 1 month. While our awesome archer…he tried to tank…. I healed both of them. The difference in performance was huge. Just like I’m a decent dps, good tank and awesome healer. I always do the research, put in effort. Healing is what I do best. And the more effort I put into it, the better I get. As a dps I eventually hit a wall than I just can’t progress past.

Short version: Working hard at smth can make you better, but it’d never make you as good as you could be if you worked at smth you are already good at. Obviously, OP is not a good ele. In which case rerolling is the logic step. Because once you realise you aren’t good at smth, you stop enjoying it….

And i believe the problem lays in GW2 combat system. I am a hardcore warrior player no matter what MMO my main always a warrior. But i was suck in every MMO warrior because the combat system is based on STAT only, you control is only focused on skill bar, you barely need movement, positioning and reflexes. The ideal warrior in my mind is in medium armor, high mobility, high damage and able to gap closing, swing the big weapon and back off without being seriously hit. But all MMO based on STAT once you being targeted, no matter how you run and jump, the hit still connect. Every trinity MMO made warrior into a tank or offtank where you need high def high HP to survive, and they killed all “Dodge tank” build in order to class balance, this is my hate upon trinity MMO.

Here in GW2, my dreams come true, i don’t need to stack defense, i can stack high power and high vit in order to take some hit but survive. I made couple alt: mesmer, guardian, elementalist, ranger to mid – high lv, i’ve got 0 problem on every toon. Every toon died fewer than my warrior and all my alt play style is similar to how i play my warrior: reflexes + movement + positioning

This is the biggest differences GW2 to traditional MMO, and i’ve seen so many mages players they refuse to move and button smash their skill bar hoping to kill the foes before getting hit, this is not a viable option in GW2 imho. Therefore a player’s play style is critical in mix and match with GW2 combat system, this is where L2P issue is.

I don’t know what MMOs you played…or exactly how lame warriors are in other games…but as a healer, I always had to be aware of skills going off around me, my position, that of my team. You don’t need a big button with “dodge” tag on it to actively avoid dmg(most MMOs feature point-and-click aoes that won’t hit you unless you stand in them and also aoes around the char).

Trinity has nothing to do with how classes work. My last MMO had exactly the class you are describing only called slayer and not warrior. And it is a trinity MMO.

Lastly, GW2 is not really special in class matching. You are either good at smth or you aren’t. How the combat works has nothing to do with it. A bad ranger in any game will still be a bad ranger in GW2.

Is that one hour even enough to level a whole craft from 0 to 400? Or can I do more than one?

If you have all mats ready and an idea of how crafting works(aka, know the patterns so you don’t have to keep checking every 10s)…I did 2 crafts/hour 1-375 each, because the items most guides(except cooking maybe) recommend for 375-400 are just over the top, you’ll usually hit 400 before you are even half-crafted. Thus no need to waste the boost on it.

This essentially means L2P, as in, L2P Elementalist. I actually find that your post supports Calle, rather than the opposite. Though you believe each person has a specific playstyle and can’t surpass good outside of it, I, on the other hand, believe that players can adapt to any class, if they take the time to understand it.

Adapting to smth and being natural are 2 different things. If you don’t have a talent to draw, working hard might improve your skill enough for you to be able to study architecture. But you’ll never be an artist. Unlike that guy(and we all know one) who can just take a pencil and draw a masterpiece in 5 mins without even thinking about it. I can put as much effort and time as I want in a dps class, but I will always be a better healer. Because that’s what I’m good at.And if you put the effort into smth you already have a talent for, you’ll become exceptional at it. If you focus your effort on smth you suck at to begin with, you’ll be decent at best.

Indeed, I can see that now

Kind’ve takes the wind out my sails a lot, because the economic “minigame” of GW2 is a big deal for me, but if Arenanet can at any time without warning change the rules of the game it puts me off playing it.

The hint here was when the forum was swarmed with “QQ precursor RNG QQ”-topics.

In fairness, the forums have been one long QQ from BWE3 til now.

“QQ warriors are ruining everything”, “QQ dungeons are too hard”, “QQ mesmers are ruining everything”, “QQ I don’t have a legendary after 1 week”, “QQ thieves are ruining everything”, “QQ 3 months and I still don’t have a legend”… you get my point

Ironic really because there are MMO’s out there that have succeeded solely BECAUSE they allowed the game’s economy to grow and drive itself forward (ie. EVE)

I have to say, you probably aren’t very good at the economy game to begin with. For one, you don’t seem to understand that it’s not about random QQ. It’s about noticing the QQ that’s important to your plan. If you were trying to resell precursors(which would be the only way the announcement could lead to lost investment), random mesmer-OP or w/e QQ is completely irrelevant. But QQ that’s about the items you are betting on should’ve registered. Gaming experience(aka, knowing that if there’s enough QQ, devs cave in and give the public what it wants) would’ve told you the rest.

The EVE part was already explained. The game is economy simulator by design. And it has to be left alone to fulfil the entire purpose of playing EVE…. GW2 is a completely different type of MMO where economy is just a hobby.

If the game was to continued business as usual then the strategy would pay off (At least there’s a 95% chance of it paying off according to my calculations and strategy – could end up in the unlucky 5% still but as you say business is a gamble, you place your money and win or lose – a strong knowledge of mathematics and a degree in physics though go a long way to ensuring the numbers are on your side)

My gripe is that the developers intervened in the economy. This riding on the back of another huge mess caused by the market inflation the last week which is also a direct result of Arenanet intervention. I wonder where John Smith stands on all this economic shenanigans; this thread might’ve been better placed in the BLTP forum. I can’t figure out what arenanet is trying to do with their trading post; it’s complexity goes far beyond any mere auctionhouse, yet they’re being too hands on for the economy to properly establish itself.

I’m just getting a little fed up of arenanet moving all my business and class goalposts and kicking me in the kitten patch after patch after patch – if this next patch doesn’t work out I’m done.

The problem is, your plan didn’t count in a factor. Namely, game development. That is, actually, the most common reason why gambles backfire in games. People hold onto items expecting them to rise in price and then suddenly those become obsolete or easier to get. That is actually the only variable in most calculations. Without dev intervention, you can expect prices of certain items(like, precursors) to keep rising indefinitely as the demand increases over time. There is no statistic, math or w/e needed to see that. And buying precursors, waiting for the price to rise would be a sure thing, not a bet. The real challenge is to know when to sell(like with stocks). The hint here was when the forum was swarmed with “QQ precursor RNG QQ”-topics. That’s actually when you made your bet. You bet that the devs won’t do anything about it. And you lost. Those who bet on a change won. It’s that simple. You can’t expect to have sure win when you are gambling xD

I know plenty of elementalists who are mediocre players who enjoy the game. Yeah they die a lot more than me but they dont come to the forums crying about everything thing they ask questions and get better or they just shrug it off and keep playing. If you spent as much time learning your class as posting on the forums you might do a little better. So elementalist is a little harder? Big deal? You can still enjoy the game just fine. Or by “enjoy the game” did you mean “faceroll it”.

Some people accept the situation and roll with it, others blame themselves and try to improve and then there are people who try to change it. There is nothing wrong with being either.

You described ele as a class that requires more skill to play. Thus by default those lacking the needed skill would be at a disadvantage. I also don;t see how die all the time can be seen as enjoyable in a game. Most people find it frustrating, especially when it’s not their fault. But I guess there are also people who enjoy paying repairs, right?

But, what about those of us who’ve fallen down the gap? – have sunk lots of money into getting a precursor/legend, but never obtained one. Are we meant to cheer that we’ll never see a return on that investment, nor reap the so called benefits of being early adopters? (The precursor/legend materials market has already begun to devalue ahead of speculation)

You are looking at it all wrong. Game are like a horse race. You speculate about the winning strategy, sometimes it pays off, other times it backfires in your face. But it’s not the dev’s fault that you put your money on the wrong horse,it’s just a bad choice. And it’s not your fault either unless you can see in the future. You just have to swallow the loss and move on. Although I’m not quite sure what your problem is right now? That you kept gambling with precursors? Or that you gathered the other mats? either way, I don’t see any of those as a lost investment… You lost on the precursor when you pressed “forge” and didn’t get the desired item(which has nothing to do with the changes). The rest of mats are still just as useful…

I didn’t make the game. Anet chose to make elementalists more complex than the other classes. In every game, there’s always a class which takes more effort and research to make it work than others. In this game, well it’s elementalist. If you don’t like it play something else.

Truly. And people usually call those classes “unbalanced” or “underpowered”. Which in turn results in class adjustments to bring in on par with the rest. Or, what, a mediocre player isn’t allowed to enjoy the game? If I’m not uberpro, I have to settle for a class I don’t like, because the one I like is reserved for the best only? How does that even make sense?!

Aww, somebody is mad. I’ve read the whole post and disagree with almost everything you and OP have said. I’m not going to apologize for letting the conversation zone in on something.

It is Anet’s decision that crafting isn’t meant to be profitable, and is mainly a source of XP along with an additional source for exotics.

Seems the majority of players like it that way

Awww, somebody can’t read. How sad. And you disagree with what I said? So, you disagree that:
- the price difference is because of the exp gain
- if the price difference didn’t exist, vendoring ingots wouldn’t generate more gold than vendoring the raw materials.

You must know the game very good and have a degree in economics to reach such conclusion.

You’re using the ore to combine into an ingot and GAIN EXPERIENCE from it. In your example, you are paying 5c for a set amount of xp. If vendor prices were to follow in your example, you’re saying that the xp you gain from crafting is free.

This is why on the TP sometimes the ingot sells for around 2xOre-10%. People know that there is inherit value in the ore by way of extra XP.

And, again, read the beep topic before you beep post. Not just 1 post, the whole thing.

You want to run new dungeon with friend once and then wait half a year for new content. – You find it fun.

No, he’s not. You might be though. Gear grind =/= content. Or at least that’s not the only content. From what I see, most players fancy WvWvW. Which is where the fun is. And I agree with the guy. If it turns out that I’m forced into a dungeon(and I hate GW2 dungeons so much…just thinking about the ridiculous design makes me violent and prone to murder)…GW2 will just be another game I’m not playing. Because I also don’t like feeling “behind”. And it’d be rather…disappointing. In most MMOs I suck it up and do my grind. But most MMOs don’t promise me that I won’t have to grind unless I want to and that I won’t be at a disadvantage for not grinding. GW2 promised me that. Thus the moment I’m forced to choose between having bos and that sorry excuse for a dungeon this game has….I’ll be a little foxy priest faster than you can say “liars”.

I just recieved an infraction for posting a thread about not recieving email replies from forums@arena.net, no PM’s and no reasoning behind being banned on the forums……..

Complete and utter joke.

They want feed back about the game, but ban/infraction those they do not like the tone off.

Anet needs to get on top of this. Sack the company currently doing it and employ people who understand english.

Holy puppy! I saw this post 5 min after making a topic just like that one…glad I managed to delete it(phew, no infraction)

Since we are complaining and this has been driving me crazy… I tend to get infractions and forum bans often enough, comes with the personality. But when I get infraction for no reason at all… Actually this is the first time I got to look at the mod PM and wondered what the heaven?! And here goes. 3 days ago I made this post:

Or another solution would be to gasp start gathering. Why Vanilla beans are considered rare is beyond me(you can get ~60/hour easily and how many beans does one need a day?!). Chilli peppers can be found in charr low lvl maps(Plains, Diessa give a decent amount, Fields of Ruin are a bit poor but still ok if you are desperate). Also…gathering is fun <3

(Disclaimer: I’m not providing any information with that quote, false or not)

In a topic about Chilli Peppers and other low level ingredients. The reason for the infraction was false or misleading information. Now, I really really need to know what that false or misleading information might be. I sent a mail to ask about that, but no reply yet and I rly rly need to know. Sooo, any ideas…maybe? Oh, and while I’m here…how do I see the state of my forum account? How many infractions, when they expire, how close I am to a band…that kind of stuff….

TWMagimay.9057

Ok, so i want to clear out something, 90% of the post in this section are about the elementalist being less ’’powerfull’’ then the other class.

So many people say: I get kill in 2 hit ! Elementalist are too weak !

-Personnaly, i never had problem with survability.

Other people say: Elementalist are unbalanced.

-I have 500 hours on my ele, i’ve done 100% on my own, done almost all of the exploration archievement and never saw anything unbalanced in my ele.

So what i think is the problem is that people that complain about the ele have either not played it long enough, didn’t play it at all or just don’t know how to play it properly. Arena net said the elementalist would be a complicated class since it has to use all the element and deal with 20 skill at once. Elementalist is a class where you need to use some skill at certain moment and other in certain situation. I always run a 80 exotic magic find armor and my ele is based on dealing a lot of damage, i have only 5 point in water (trait) and i never… NEVER had problem surviving.

So i think that the problem is that people who complain aren’t meant for this class and should just play another less complicated one.

~I hope you guys understand my point and what im trying to say.

Here’s the thing. I solo’d on my ele and my mesmer. While I do like ele more(and play it while my mesmer crafts cookies and carries stuff), the difference in pve is big. My ele has 2 exotic sets, explorer and knight(with corresponding weapons and jewellery). My mesmer has mostly greenies and some rare weapons(all just drops with random stats), jewels are left-overs from crafting(think some are lvl 30 or so). A lot of though went into my ele traits…my mesmer build is based on “oh, this sounds good”. What happens in Orr…
- Ele: I carefully kite mobs, time skills and combos and the result is very good.
- Mesmer: I stand in 1 place, press random buttons and the result is, again, very good as long as I can keep a couple clones up, mobs dun even look at me.
And this is what happens when I get downed by mobs and all are above 50% hp:
- Ele: Thanks for playing, try again next time.
- Mesmer: Oh, I get 50% hp when I rally.
Somewhere smb said that a downed mesmer does more dmg than a standing ele. And I got the rallies to prove it…
That’s why people see ele as unbalanced. Not because the class is UP, but because it takes more effort and skill to play it at the same level as offer classes. Does that make ele bad? Not at all. Is it unfair? Definitely.

And that part is exactly the problem. You assume the probability is the same(or similar), but haven’t proven that as true. Once you take that assumption out, you go absolutely nothing. Which is what I believe the previous poster meant.

Chili Peppers - Any more reliable place to get them?

in Crafting

Posted by: TWMagimay.9057

TWMagimay.9057

I get plenty of Vanilla from Herb Seedlings in Caledon Forest and Metrica Province, but this is post-patch that removed Thyme/Parsley from the Herb Seedling nodes in those areas. They were rarer before, but I still managed to stockpile about 30 or so prior to the patch. I’m honestly not sure how many I’ve got now!

Chili peppers are rarer, and they only seem to drop from Herb Seedlings in Plains of Ashford and maybe the 15-25 zone (still haven’t been there, so I can’t confirm it). Trouble is, Herb Seedlings there share their drop table with Garlic and Peppercorns, with Chili being the rarest of the three.

Chilli Peppers are “rarer”, because Vanilla Beans come in 3-5 stacks while peppers are 1-2. That alone creates a difference. Then the Vanilla Bean nodes only drop Peppercorn and Garlic, which Chilli pepper nodes also drop some other random leaves. My research on expensive ingredients and where to get them is still ongoing though, but I think I got those 2 covered(just gotta get the time to check out Queensdale and the other 1-15 maps…see what drops there…).

Oh, and, yes, you can get a decent ammount of chilli peppers in Ashford and Diessa, Fields of Ruin are too poor to be worth the time(although they do drop other good items, but if you are after chilli peppers…dun bother). Steppes is still ongoing for me, but doesn’t look too good.
