I’m not really certain. I’d have to test it on thieves specifically, as the stone applied by Basilisk Venom is stun-breakable (Specifically changed way back in October, I think), while stone applied by basilisks in PvE is not.

I do have a suspicion though: there’s a trait that gives the thief an extra use of any given venom, including basilisk venom. In PvE, if they’re using Basilisk Venom as their elite, it’s probable they had Residual Venoms as well. So you may have stun-broke the first hit, only to get hit immediately after and take another 1.5 second stone.

Well, the usual Thief combo is preload CnD > Steal (traited with Mug, III) > Backstab. Between CnD and Mug, this would hit almost simultaneously, so the residual venom trait would have already applied the 2nd effect, as Steal would have done damage being traited (Mug) and then CnD would hit.

I know Basilisk is bugged where if you are stone colored you cannot dodge roll, but I couldnt move at all, so kinda curious.

were you below 50% so thief trait kicked in a 4sec immobilize? Dunno, but the stun-breaker part of walk works fine from my experience. Just follow with consume conditions for anything else.

Yeah, you’ll have to forgive me, I took note of the +healing amount and estimated the total heal which was 58xx. This was not intended as a base number, just what I was getting with current build between 15 spite and 15 blood magic vs. 10 spite and 20 blood magic. I just didnt feel +healing power was/is effective to build around on necro.

My old build used 15 spite. I figured because I wanted 15 in blood magic for the life siphon, why not, having 5% of your power in a power-hybrid build go to healing; sounded great.

I actually had the brilliant idea of testing that tonight. I received a whopping +42 HP on my consume conditions. Yes that is 5882 vs. 5840…

Needless to say I run 10 Spite now… what a waste.

On behalf of KnT, I would like to express my deepest condolences to JQ for the troll and any negative effects that you feel that he had on this match. You are an outstanding server and a pleasure to fight against in victory and defeat.

Please, however, realize that this is our first victory in Tier 1, ever. Every single guild on Blackgate worked incredibly hard to pull this off. I would greatly appreciate it if the smear campaign of using the troll as a scapegoat or making other excuses/accusations would stop as there is no need to cheapen this victory for us. Please be gracious in victory or defeat.

I view gear as a grocery store… I’m not gonna buy pizza for glass cannon regardless of the cost and I’m not gonna buy milk for bunker regardless for the cost. I’m gonna buy what’s on-sale to give me a well-rounded char.

Regardless, that’s some damage. Necromancer has the only Transform(s) worth using.

While I won’t argue with the Lich tranform being powerful, the reason it and cloud are used so much are because we don’t have any other options outside of racials. If you don’t like pets you avoid fleshy.

I am pretty sure it we had a signet that gave us 5 might, fury, and swiftness for 30 seconds, most people would take that hands down. Lich would still be good, but as has been mentioned dozens of times, being big/green/ugly and getting a massive dragon-size target on your face isn’t fun in any sort of group play. Auto attacks for 3-5k are nice, though it does feel like more of an “I WIN” button, seeing as how just spamming the 1 ability doesn’t feel skillful. Sort of reminds me of “222222222” thieves.

Critique is dead on… I like to blow up some of my utilities before using lich form because getting my jagged horrors up and spamming #1 is kinda boring.

I think many of us could handle the Gremlin, as I call it. What’s disheartening is the non reaction from Arenanet. That this part of the game we so enjoy is now broken. It really depends how you play WvW. If you play for PPT, wow this is broken. If you play for badges, then it’s business as usual.

I dont know anyone that plays for badges… they are collecting dust in my bank. Winning is nice, but I dont find a reward good enough to cheat for it… lol. At least Lance Armstrong got a cool kitten and stuff for a while.

I got to say though you were lucky and didn’t get caught in the open by 2 or 3 guys at once. If you did it would be very hard to escape. That’s the only reason why I personally don’t like roaming in wvw. It is hard to disengage as a necro.

There is one fight where the adds come as you warn, but fortunately two were uplevels and wanted nothing to do with me and then one of the chasers backed off allowing me to engage. You saw how spectral walk is vital to escape at one point as well.

With that said… you still get zerged down a bit. Maybe my next video should be almost 1v1s lol.

Very interesting build and pretty sure I’ve mixed up my build with of your advice. But as others have said I’de like to see how you fight against some good burst mesmers and thieves, it would help me greatly.

Could you also break down your use for well of darkness over spectral grasp (other than it sort of sucking). I have a few ideas of where it would excel, but I’de like to hear anyways.

I use well of darkness because I have my Curses trait to chill upon blind. Since I need 20Curses for my spectral attunement, the chill when blind trait is better than terror when you’re not using staff as main or backup.

The well of darkness is also key to killing burst thieves. Shatter Mesmers are my weakpoint when not playing with a staff handy. That said, removal of stealth/culling will make my most difficult opponent far easier.

Yeah lets just say if you aren’t burst, you might as well be. The difference is minimal when you use them. Oh you specced into something else? Well besides the fact that you didn’t show that, its pretty obvious its the same intention in the end. Burst them down with power/crit, apply vulnerability if they are stupid enough to run into your wall.

Again, wvw with crit dmg being as-is, you could just show a burst build ending the fight within 5 seconds lol.

His build is designed to mitigate as much damage as possible and wear his opponent out over time. So, no, he shouldn’t be able to destroy people more convincingly. He’s dominating people by severely reducing their damage output and winning the cooldown war. I found it entertaining to watch, and wasn’t surprised that those guys didn’t really know how to fight back. He’s playing in a rather unusual way. Most people just try to outburst the other guy rather than outlive him.

1. w/ trait is 1200 range and used on inc so that the application is done at 1200 – begin out of range. I left out the thief 1v1 because I didnt get to stomp him before a JQ zerg strolled by. I have more thieves try to run from me than kill me. That is not an elitist comment. My “video” was just fights from one night… I am not a forum warrior saving clips over months to make myself look amazing… I have posted ways in which I kill thieves (not all of them are baddies, but most are), and if you dont like it, oh well… keep dying then.

Oh man it’s realy funny how some guys here think they are so good. As I said: backstab 8k and heartseaker 8k on full PVT necro, that’s full health on your rabidgear my friend. You can’t cast a slow spinal shivers (1,2 seconds) on a jumping thief. If you’re lucky and you cast it inbetween his dodges and manage to get a couple of feet away from him, he will close the gap SOOO fast, and you’ll die on his second burst for sure.

Thieves can steal fear from you and burst you down in that time period alone, much less a bunch of other annoying stuns/immobiles that will eventually kill you.

Your options versus a theif are this:
Try and prolong the point as long as possible and hope he doesn’t notice. and just burst you because your conditions can’t do any reasonable amount of damage fast enough.

Or

Try and counter burst him.

Either way, you probably lose.

WvW and spvp are completely different. WvW is more about staying alive, positioning and movement. Spvp you know where everyone is and builds would have to be completely different. Knocking one at the expense of the other is rather ignorant.

Don’t be too impressed with this if you watch carefully in his videos hes fully stacked 25 bloodlust sigil, power food / w/e oil hes using. His opponents for all parts of the video I watched were not even stacked with 25 stacks of bloodlust sure they had some had food boons. This might work on amateurs in wvw but the only way to impress people in 1v1s as a necro is in tpvp against pro’s. Where real pvpers are at.

Not sure If I personally would put 15 into Spite since im not sure how much the minor trait really helps.. or if your just trying to gain the extra power and condi duration, maybe put 10 for Talisman and bring Blood Magic to 20 for either Dagger Mastery or Vampiric Precision. Then again im a total noob Necro so I could be totally off. Either way that video makes Necros.. or that spec in general look totally killer.

I went out to WvW this afternoon to record how a necro playstyle should be with my build. Not an kitten contest, and the fights/video aren’t special or “l33t”…. purpose is to emphasis how one should play this class to kill and escape.

If you’re using plague for anything other than spamming blindness, you should play another class cause you dont get it.

If the scores were the same as last week the Elo rating would not change. You would have beat SoR by 200k and Kain would have to beat TC and FA by 200k each in the same week. It’s not even possible for Kain to make T1 unless a major server shakeup happens.

There’s a sticky called “Necromancer Tutorials” by Nemesis (A very awesome necromancer), you’ll see a link on a Glass Cannon Necromancer Tutorial using Axe/Focus and Dagger. Axe is amazing for PvE.

I run with Axe/Focus and Dagger/Warhorn in WvW with Full Knights (Toughness, Power, Precision) gear and I really enjoy it.

I personally don’t suggest replacing dagger for axe in wvw roaming since you already have a staff, maybe if you have other people running with you then the vulnerability you apply might help. Eh I don’t know, just try it out and see if you like it.
