Fractals Support build?

in Guardian

Talyn.3295

Won’t comment on the Gear choice, as I can tell that’s kinda what you are aiming for here.

As far as the build choices.

1. The bow is a wasted skill slot something useful.

2. The heal on Shield 5 is to small really help all that much, if you pop it you are going to be knocking mobs of melee range. You would be better off with torch or focus.

3. Force of Will pales in comparison with Writ of Persistence. It also works better with Symbolic Avenger.

4. Invigorated Bulwark would be better then Protected Reviver.

You might want to read through this: It can help with some skill choices for certain fights.

Look, what I am trying to tell you is that some people really enjoy playing a support specialist character that sacrifices their ability to deal lots of damage for the ability to provide substantial bonuses to a group.

You are absolutely correct in saying that at this point there is no need to sacrifice damage to provide maximum support. However, that is exactly the issue people have. They want to be a support specialist. They want the option to sacrifice DPS to provide more powerful benefits to their group, not a game where if you sacrifice 80% of your DPS your support ability stays exactly the same.

You are playing the wrong game. Might be time to move on.

Legendary stats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Talyn.3295

Talyn.3295

Absolutely not. They are intentionally on par with the highest stats, they are purely for skins, animations and changeable stats on the fly. That makes them a luxury, not an essential gain, which they would be if stats increased.

To give them increased stats would go against their design and upset an enormous number of people who came to GW2 to avoid stat treadmills. After the uproar caused by Ascended, the game does not need more treadmills

I would hardly call Ascended a treadmill, its one tier gear. I really hate when people use the term “treadmill” out of context.

But on topic, as someone who has crafted more then 4 legendaries, no, the stats do not need to be any higher then ascended gear.

I only use the one exotic wintersday breather.

Now you made me think …
The wintersday breather has that nice frost aura effect, but that effect is tied to the item, not the skin, so if I get an ascended breather I’ll lose the effect from the wintersday breather.

There is a spot in the wardrobe for aqua breathers. Oddly the Winters day one doesn’t appear in that section

But honestly I spend so little time underwater that I only use the one exotic wintersday breather. Even if I decide to go swimming in WvW, which doesn’t happen very often. No sense dealing with the rest of it for the fraction of a time I go swimming.

Decided to Duo SE Story the other night. Been ages since I wandered through that place. I don’t know. I mean yeah, sure anet isn’t likely to change anything about dungeons. But I had the same feeling after re-doing CoE story.

There are some interesting fights and mechanics in some of the story dungeons. Yet most people avoid them cause the rewards suck. Why didn’t story modes get the same treatment as the explorable paths?

Full beserker gear on a guardian is not a difficult thing to master. Been running this for some time. In open world PvE outside of trying to do the world bosses I don’t think you will really notice an issue.

While you can use any weapon in open world staff is mostly just useful for tagging during large events. Our highest Damage weapons are greatsword mace and torch. Hammer works well in certain situations, but only if larger amounts of group support are needed.

I would read through Obals guild, he makes things pretty simple by explaining builds and basics of how to play a DPS guardian. Zui did a great right up about dungeons if you ever decide you want to do those.

I would comment on your build, but sadly my internet here sucks atm and I can’t get it to load.

Because its rare. Because its not Gemstore. Because its not handed to everyone who comes serves themselves through leeching and AFKing like they do in open world.

I wont like when I see every casual around with Fractal Skins that were supposedly for a different player type.

The system is not perfect but lets take into consideration what Devs said yesterday:

  • you can buy skins if you reach lvl 50 fractals GOOD

They established a numerical limit and you think it is quite good. But then the next comment by Anet happens:

  • they said they would be reducing difficulty from 0-50 BAD

Kind of ruins the old 50 difficulty that we thought it was an acceptable barrier of entry to get skin access.

  • price is merely 20 pristine, meaning ultra casuals and not very skilled can, after reaching the to-be-nerfed FOTM 50, farm twenty level 1 island and get them.

Possible solution: Since you get 1 pristine no matter what tier you complete, skins should cost Pristine + Regular Fractal tokens. To ensure higher level players get an easier access to them, while making lower levels actually want to farm higher level fractals and not easy low levels.

I could keep going but I think you got my point.

We had fractals for a long while. Which was good I guess.

I would also venture that even after the changes, once the casual players get their shinies they will disappear from FoTM and leave us in peace again.

Sure that means we lose what used to be an exclusive skin for those who had ran and mastered fractals, (at least after a fashion). But will it really be a big deal?

We all kinda knew that this was coming at some point. Anet has been trying to get their casual players into fractals with dailies and such despite many post on the general discussion form about how “awful” it is to have two fractal dailies on the same day. I mean two! the horror

/sigh

I was kinda upset to start with, but after talking to a friend of mine I got over it. If it means I might get her to run fractals with me along with our normal dungeons, I am ok with it. I lose what used to be a prestigious skin to the hoards of causals.

But I have one of my best friends playing fractals with me. And that is Priceless.

Talk with NPCs while in-combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Talyn.3295

Talyn.3295

Its not just looting when it comes to talking to them. I have noticed that during some dungeon runs that the priority of actions is kinda iffy.

Example, running HoTW path 1 NPC runs into the bossroom and gets his kitten shot off, and dies in 10 seconds. One of my party members makes the mistake of going down near npc, I rush to res them and find myself resing the NPC instead of the party member.

Anet Logic: Res an NPC who is just gonna die again in 4 seconds over an actual player.

/sigh

Also trying to pick up badly placed Ice bows and such can be a pain while in combat if an an NPC is dead or standing near them.

Stickies

in Guardian

Posted by: Talyn.3295

Talyn.3295

Personally speaking, as much as I like those types of threads, the Fashion “post your screenshot” threads just don’t seem like sticky threads to me. But, I could see how some disagree, I just think stickies are best left for things that someone new coming here for help should check out before posting… that doesn’t fall into that category.

There is the FAQ which I think has a TON of great info, but it’s a little outdated in spots. No clue if Tarsius is still around, but for example it has a not on merciful intervention that’s incorrect as you now choose who you teleport it just has to be an ally nearby. I wouldn’t say I’d remove that but I would say maybe use your magical powers and add a “Some outdated” or something /shrug, or leave it alone, just felt worth noting as I was looking through.

The hammer one also seemed like it’d be worth taking off, but the OP of it says he plans on updating it once the expansion launches but doesn’t want to do all the work then have to do it all again, which I think is fair and worth leaving. AH Hammer builds are great for new players, a great place to start as you work your way to Obal’s builds.

The Post your Build one to me is like the Post your Screenshot, It’s cool, it’s nice to share, but it’s not the “Hey new players read this!” type thing that I believe stickies should be.

I do think we have a lot of stickies here, it’s kinda awesome, but when I look closely most are worthwhile and really all have a place at least as a starting point for people.

I would agree with you. As long as the original poster intends to update them. Although with all the work that is going into those updates it might be better to remove the current ones, and re-sticky with a fresh thread when those guides are ready, as alot of the comments and things on those threads will be irrelevant, when the original information is updated. . Just my thoughts on it though.

And in regards to the post your build or post your Guardian pic, I don’t think there is really any danger of those threads sinking to far down on the list, they shouldn’t really be taking up spots in the sticky section. If they do sink though, its a good indication that they shouldn’t have been in the stickies really.

Prestige? Plz.

You can theoretically get all fractal skins in less than a month with godly RNG, and there is no prestige in RNG. The items do not reflect that you have played the game the longest at all. I know people who have done way more FotM than me and have never seen a fractal sword before, yet I have gotten 3 of them before, with 2 of them being within the same week. How is that prestigious? That’s just lucky (or rather, unlucky in my case since they were duplicates).

What is prestige then?

I mean gear/skins can only come in one of three ways.

1) It’s Crafted. Is this prestige?

2) It’s bought. Is this prestige?

3) It’s a drop. Is this prestige?

If we look at it as a drop then we have to weigh this as a guaranteed drop vs a random drop. And honestly I don’t know if this makes a difference. Because both amount to pretty much the same thing. Tokens? Having ran X content X amount of times equals the skin or weapon of your choice?

I will be honest at first I was pretty upset that something I had grinded hours and hours, run on top of run for was going to be able to be purchased. Even if the specifics are unclear.

Then oddly enough a good friend of mine who I run almost all my dungeons with messaged me about fractals having seeing the changes. She had never really show interest in fractals before, but now was considering it. And I thought about it a little bit as we talked.

Sure its gonna suck that every Tom, kitten and Harry has the ability to farm skins that many of us tried for years to get but haven’t been able to get.

Prestige is pretty much irritant, what one person finds awesome the next probably won’t. For example Sunrise, Twilight and Eternity, are very popular or prestigious skins, depending on who you talk to. I however don’t find them visually appealing, and even though I have the money to purchase them I won’t because I am hoping that when HoT comes out there will be a legendary greatsword skin I like better.

So in a sense I agree with you. But I think that saying RnG doesn’t equal Prestige is kinda funny, because in that sense is anything we get Prestigious?

All it really says is “Hey I did this content x amount of times.”

Nothing more.

Kinda feels like all my work to this point is going to be invalidated in a few days of this going live. Which is really annoying, I liked that fractals was one of the few places were the bads, the casuals and the PHIWs stayed out of. But for a while at least its gonna be a flood of them to get the new “shines” its like holding a carrot in front of them, they won’t be able to help themselves.

Which will bring back the threads like how doing fractals to get those 5 pristine relics that were needed for the back piece was such an inconvenience.

Ok, so I was ask to join two guildies in fractals 40 today. We 3 maned the swamp and then opened LFG to pick up two pugs, an ele and another guardian.

Got the char fractal, not to bad. Although we did wipe once.

The real fun started at the third when we got the fire shaman. I noticed the other guard had been pretty much staff camping during the Char fractal, with a few greatswordswaps but didn’t really pay to much attention to it, as I had the skills we needed covered.

During the the 1st fight with the the fire shaman i noticed a spirit sword and a hammer appear. Then instantly die. My guild mates start laughing, and i am like No. Those are not mine. So we beat the shaman, then pick our pug guardian up off the floor and head down for phase 2.

I am thinking She has to remove the staff for this part. She has too..

Well She starts out with Scepter focus, so I am thinking good. Then Suddenly swaps to staff for an empower. She had taken off her Greatsword, during the fire shaman to keep her staff on…
I face palm as we had stacked might before we hopped down. I then notice the Sword and hammer make an appearance again, but no Shield.

We managed to wipe again, and one of my guild mates was like Wall? So she adds that but keeps the hammer and sword. This time I am on my a game though, pulling in the elemental with my gs and cleaving them down etc, from inside my wall and shield etc. With no help from the other guard who had swapped back to her staff.

Final Fractal we get the Moltan Duo. And when we run in for the pres-tack might I kid you no. She summoned the Sword, the Hammer and the bow. We melted them down rather quickly though, but I haven’t laughed that hard and wanted to cry a the same time for a while.

lets say it different my English is not that great but i try my best

problem what i see is stacking all together that there can be a mistake in your team
with that all can die in just 1 blow

that’s why i play more in the back row if something go wrong i can mabye get them up again its a 50% change but its worth the shot ??

also am a ranger and always have 1 tank pet with me i can send him to to get them up fast or use his taunt skill if it works on bosses ?? never try it but ok if i can get my tank pet to argo the boss i can get my team up

i wanna play it on the save side then try all stand together and hoping we kill the mops or boss or they kill us all -.-

so for me i think for a party 3 close range and 2 long range for back up ??
and if those spirit mops i can use have a very long range i can help my party to with buffs and keep my spirits save

This thread has gotten way off topic. But since we are already down this rabbit hole we might as well see where it goes.

I have been running dungeons for almost three years. When I was first learning them at the start it was kinda rough. But I have never, in all the time I have been playing see an entire team “die in just 1 blow”. Sometimes one player or anther will. But I will repeat, I have never seen an entire team go down to one hit. Maybe I am just lucky, or I have a pretty great team of friends to call upon, but still, never seen this happen, Even during Alpha fights, or Lupi fights, or Mai Trin, I never seen an entire party go down to one attack.

You realize that the reason rangers had such a hard time getting into groups for the longest time was because they were using Tank pets, and camping range. This is where the joke about Bearbows come from. It has taken rangers along time to overcome that stereo type.

Odds are using taunt is going to do one of two things, Nothing, due to defiance, or your going to reset the defiance stack preventing another Deep Freeze or a similar useful CC skill.

In your example if someone goes down, you have a much better chance of rezing them if you are in melee range beside them, and not running out of range to get to them.

As for you not getting boons, if you don’t want to stand near the boon givers that is the price you pay for camping range. I am sure there are plenty of groups that don’t mind what skills you use or how far back you stand. You just need to find one of those.

I was looking around and noticed that the Forgeman Mantle is 300 tokens as a light armor skin, while the Medium and heavy are both still 210 am I crazy? I don’t recall this bug from before. But I haven’t really been spending my tokens for a while…

I hate the fact you need to equp a specialisation line to have access to a weapon. Just give warhorns to every ele who bought HoT and keep utils/traits in the specialisation line.

If I am not mistaken its the same with all the elite specializations.

If devs want to change it and make it a trinity game, there isn’t really a way to protest.
… but they didn’t say they will, it’s mostly in their heads.

Of course Devs can do whatever they want to. Not that I think they would.

For me I just don’t understand the mentality. Why do players feel that we have the right to have a game completely redone for free because we decide we didn’t like the old game?

Would I be with in my rights to demand a game completely redone because it isn’t what i wanted it to be?

I think its kinda crazy.

Eww, I really hope there’s more to that story than meets the eye. Hopefully Chris will pop on and share the other side of it.

Oh and…

Tank Revenant won’t be possible if things don’t change.

Good thing that things can change.

Trinity confirmed!

Never understood why people want the game to change so much. I mean How many other games do we buy and expect it to be completely redone after purchase? Oh I bought GTA 5, it needs to be remade into Fable, or Final Fantasy needs to be remade into Saints Row.

I remember when the Mesmer Specialization dropped there was lots of speculation, to a lesser extent with the Guardian. The Reaper got a little attention while we debated if it would be enough to get the Necro in the meta.

Yet today they dropped the Ele info and there isn’t a thread on it. Did we wear ourselves out or did it just get to the point were we normally are when we just go “Meh, whatever.”

Maybe there will be more interest in it when the live stream hits, anyway

Thoughts?

I myself was hoping for a sword, but War horn, and 8 new skills.

Harness the Elements!
Each attunement will obtain its own overload ability, and here’s how they’ll work:

Overload Fire: Allow flames to leak out from your essence, building an infernal tornado over time that continuously damages and burns enemies while granting allies might. Successfully completing the ability leaves the tornado at your current location for a period of time.

Overload Water: Pull water into an aquatic bubble around you as you regenerate and cleanse conditions from yourself and nearby allies. At the end of the ability, your water bubble pops to give a larger heal to nearby allies.

Overload Air: Become a conduit of electricity, creating a nimbus cloud above you that repeatedly strikes nearby enemies, rending their armor. Successfully completing this ability leaves a lightning field at your location that strikes enemies in its vicinity.

Overload Earth: Rend the earth, bend it to your will, and take a ride on it, granting protection to nearby allies and crippling enemies. When you return to earth, deliver a tremendous immobilizing blast.

This portion sounded kinda interesting, although not really to useful. What they mean by rending armor, unless its a vun thing.

Now casuals back on Reddit want to nerf Fire field + Blast combo. Hilarious the things they come up with.

Seems to me that they want to nerf anything that makes for efficient game play. They won’t be happy until we have nothing but nomads armor sticks and waterfields.

Engi is awesome! It may not have the raw power of an Ele, or the specialized skill set of a thief, but you’re diverse and the rotations are fun if you’re in to that kind of mad play style. And, if you ever get bored with the normal power rotation, you can move on to an IMO more complicated though less finger intensive Condi build that still performs well enough to not feel bad about it The only negative I have to say about Engi is that once you play it, the rest of the professions feel a little dull though it gives your fingers a rest.

I got all 8 of my toons leveled and geared, at least to exotic armor with Ascended trinkets level. So jumping in with any of them wouldn’t be very difficult. They were all leveled back during the 1st six months of play before crafting or instant level tombs, so I have at least a basic idea of how to play them.

After the feedback I got today on the guardian forms I am just ready for something new. Maybe I will look more into my Engi or the Ele, I am wanting something with a little more active play. Not that I didn’t feel the need to move on my guard, but I know there is alot more work evolved with those two classes to reach their maximum potential. One of my good friends already plays an Ele so perhaps Engi would be a good place to direct my attention. He will look pretty sick decked out with fractal skins and legendaries.
