I am suddenly aware of supply camps!
(jk… good guide Alsonia!)
Arg… and I just respecced as a healing shout warrior. -_-
Also @Godfather: Thanks for keeping the garrison warm for us! I really enjoyed the rooftop battle at the end.
I’m just glad GoM isn’t crushing our two humble servers like bugs as every other server that visits us tends to do.
We’ll, we’re TRYING to… but you jerks keep taking everything back. :P
I just want to comment and say that your character names are awesome!
Thanks! It definitely helps keep me entertained during story mode cut-scenes.

You can keybind a “look behind you” button. It’s unassigned by default, I think.
I wish the mods would be a little more lenient about the so-called “trashtalking”, at least on the wuvwuv forums. Rivalry is good and keeps things from getting stale.
We’ve played the same matchup 3 weeks in a row now. I’ve gone from a respectful, sportsmanlike mentality to downright hatred at AR and BP because I’m so sick of seeing those kittens all up in GoM’s lawn. In actuality, though, I wouldn’t trade those servers for any others because each week of fighting against them has been an absolute blast AND a good challenge. I just love to hate them… that’s all
Yeah, I forgot to mention that. All Rifle skills are 1200 range. Longbow skills are 900 unless traited for Stronger Bowstrings. Thief pistol/shortbow skills are all 900 except for Cluster Bomb.
I main a Rifle Warrior (with axe/shield on the switch). Your damage and range will be very nice. You also have access to a cripple with a quick cooldown. And if you trait for Crack Shot, the piercing makes Rifle an absolute beast in skirmishes (pierced shots will apply their conditions to all affected players). But you’ll lack a true AoE for sieges unless you swap to Longbow.
I really wanted to like Longbow. It’s got a great AoE (coincidentally, the only combo field a Warrior can produce), and the skills look great on paper. But I just feel the damage is kinda blah for what it’s worth, and you have to trait 10 points into the Tactics (vitality) tree just to give it good range. In my opinion, those 10 points would be better spent in a different tree, or at the very least on taking Leg Specialist instead.
Mobility is top notch, though. Signet of Rage on its own will grant you 30 seconds of swiftness every minute. And you have tons of weapon skills to supplement that if you dont mind doing lots of weapon swaps. With the right skill rotation, you can out-run just about anyone.
My highest alt is a shortbow Thief (with p+d on switch), so I’m probably on the same page as you style-wise. I think the Thief is more fun to play, but the Warrior is more well-rounded. For sieges, the Thief has a slight edge for hitting targets on walls. But Warrior can spec for shouts and keep his entire team boosted while still throwing out great damage. Like everything else in GW2, it’s all about tradeoffs and preferences.
I haven’t tried Rangers (don’t like pets) and my Eng is only like level 6, so I can’t really offer any insight on those classes.
Some hot PvDoor action from last week’s matchup as I level an alt:

Shoutouts to my fellow GoMs who work late, play late, and have to miss out on all the good prime-time fights. AR and BP are both fun opponents when they’ve got people online. Much respect.
lol Hakato… I was part of that GoM assault on SM. I remember we had a fairly easy time breeching both walls, then we just got SLAMMED in that hallway.
Good defensive stand.
Screw it. It’s a Batman costume from now on.
Not really in that regard. There’s some minor circus themes involved (masks, performers, etc), but the basis of the holiday is rooted in religion… Catholicism, specifically. Carnival was meant as one last chance to enjoy all of the indulgences of life before the fasting season begins.
Of course, in modern context, you can easily remove the religious connotations and just enjoy the celebration. Some cultures celebrate it on one official day, but others start celebrating it pretty much the week after New Year’s. I’m in the latter group.
Cajun here. I’d love to see a Carnival/Mardi Gras themed event as well.
“Sleep is a sign of caffeine deprivation!”
I’m so stealing this. :P
Switch to scepter as Guardian. One of my guildmates plays a ranged scepter/focus condition damage + spirit weapons build and it does extremely well. The #2 skill is aoe and has 1200 range. Mix that with Virtue of Justice and you’ll smash kitten against groups, even if the enemy is on top of their tower wall.
Even if you’re not specced for condition damage, you can still tag from very far away.
You’re the hero GW2 deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
I finally got around to giving the puzzle a try. Very tense, very addictive, very FUN. After three or four attempts, we were already making comparisons to Battletoads and how nerve-wracking the tower sequence in that game was.
So far, no one in my guild has conquered the tower yet. Tonight, we’re all running it together with a 1g reward to the first person up.
Thanks ANet for a great puzzle!
- HOLY KITTEN was able to actually log into the forums…
2 I hope we get some good games to play. Been out of commission vs Ehmry last week due to familial issues. But now I’m doubly raring for a fight. You don’t have to come at me bro… I’m bringing the fight to you.
Bro, do you even lift?
jk… Best of luck to you, BP and AR. I was out of town the past two weekends, so unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately) I had to miss out on getting steamrolled. Should be back at it this weekend and ready to get some revenge.
To my knowledge, it does still work in WvW, but not in sPvP. (source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Strength_Bonus_)
It’s definitely an advantage, but easily off-set by guild buffs or orbs. Or you can just hit them with siege instead. :P
I don’t take any server for granted. Especially not while free transfers are in effect.
Looking forward to the matchup with AR and BP!
Count [BB] in for this. I’ll send you an in-game message later.
We’re a bunch of locals and are heavily invested in guild upgrades, so we’ve got no interest in switching servers.

This is what you get for invading my server.

2) Taking advantage of no queue times to get free teleports to Lion’s Arch all week. Saving that extra 3s at the end of each farming run really adds up.
Do you really not know that you can get a free port to LA anytime by going to the SPvP lobby?
This forum really does need /satire tags.
Two things I really enjoyed about this matchup:
1) Killing SoR invaders while naked. Seriously, though. For all the chest-thumping you guys did on the forum about how skilled you are pvp-wise, it would be a good idea to have your folks invest some extra time into learning their characters. If one guy with roughly 1/3rd of your stat bonuses can take on 2 or 3 fully-geared invaders, you’re going to have a rough time against servers with equal populations.
2) Taking advantage of no queue times to get free teleports to Lion’s Arch all week. Saving that extra 3s at the end of each farming run really adds up.
Sign me up for uneasy alliances.
I like the voting idea that the OP proposed, but I don’t think it would work in the context of this game. Automated neutrality toggles are the way to go. However, I feel that 90% coverage is way too high as a trigger point. Something around 75% would give the whole game a much better tug-of-war feel. Even going as low as 50% for a trigger would be fun. Imagine ransacking a keep with a group of yellow “allies”, and the moment you capture, they turn red and all hell breaks loose.
Only real problem I see with it is that it’ll be tough to prevent people from “accidentally” AOE’ing yellow allies during sieges. But an easy counter-fix to that is to make it so yellows don’t drop badges.
Stay classy, SoR.
I’m a fan of Orrian Steak Frittes. +100 power +70 vit.
It’d be nice if they were server-locked, too (aka you can’t access unless your account is tied to that server). Once free transfers are done, those forums would be even more useful.
Warrior. It’s not the best at anything, but it does EVERYTHING.
I run a rifle build that pierces and hits like a truck. Anytime the enemy clumps up, I’m throwing down 2-pieces/3-pieces like it’s Popeyes. If someone gets close, I’ve got a greatsword waiting, either for hb or to haul kitten out of there.
But by far, my favorite part about playing Warrior is to keep an open inventory screen (minimized so it doesn’t take up too much real estate) and switch weapons constantly out of combat. Obviously, there’s sword/warhorn for extreme mobility. If we’re attacking something with pesky eles/archers/siege defense, I get the longbow for some pretty ridiculous burn damage. For ganking a small group, there’s axe/shield (or mace/mace). For ground defense and choke points, there’s hammer. And so on.
There’s just so many fun combos, this class never gets old. The only real con is that we have to craft/buy so many more exotics than everyone else if we want to max out our effectiveness. Definitely, DEFINITELY invest in a safe box or invisible bag so that you don’t accidentally sell your weapon stash to a vendor.
Why not have the best of both worlds? Divide the future two-week WvW format into chunks. Please bear with me while I type this out. It makes sense in my head, but I’m going to try to explain it clearly.
Per matchup, there would be 3 three-day rounds and 1 five-day round. Each round would have one defending server and two attacking servers. The defenders would start with 100% ownership across all maps and the attackers would try to steal and hold objectives from the defenders (or each other… backstabbing/cut-throat is totally fair play). Score is only tallied at the END of the third day based on what you own at that final buzzer.
Then, a new three-day round would begin with one of the attacking servers becoming the new defending server and starting with 100% control. Again, the score will only count at the end. Then, one final round after that so the last server can have their chance to defend.
Once all three rounds have been completed, it’s a 5-day brawl with 15-minute interval scoring as it is now. Each server will be reset back to 0 points and begin with equal ownership of the maps, but would also be granted an arsenal of free siege/upgrades/supply/etc depending on how many total points they accumulated during each of the first three rounds. So, even though all three servers will start the final round on equal footing (hopefully keeping interest up on losing servers), the servers that performed well will be rewarded with a bit of a tactical head-start. Of course, that might all backfire if the other two servers decide you look like you have TOO much of an advantage…
A sample two-week period could go something like:
Mon/Tue/Wed – Red borderlands
Thu/Fri/Sat – Green borderlands
Sun/Mon/Tues – Blue borderlands
Wed/Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun – The epic finale
That’s the basic idea. I’d like to see it eventually go one step further and make it possible for an entire server to be eliminated for the remainder of the matchup if they lose all their territory in the FINAL round, but I don’t think the player base would go for that. It’d be incredibly intense, though.
Let’s do this. I’m looking forward to settling the score with YB.
Good luck, everyone!
They haven’t rendered yet. :X
Sorry, SF. You guys had us outnumbered and we were fighting our last stand protecting the orb in DB. Then, just as you breach the gate, we all get booted back to Lion’s Arch because there’s a new WvW build available.
I know we’re enemies this week, but I feel for ya. That keep was yours fair and square. :/
At this point server transfers are starting to look pretty enticing since it seems that we have a good number of babies representing Ehmry Bay (not all of course, but there is WAAAAAY too much QQ).
Come join us over on GoM. Every new recruit get their own free orb!
Those ledges on castle walls are kind of buggy. Sometimes while walking along the ledge, my character will start screaming and get stuck in a falling animation until I jump off.
Never had the planking thing happen, though. Looks like it’d be awesome for getting rid of those pesky “obstructed” messages when I try to rifle people from the roof.
Obviously, that worker is a traitor and must be put to death.
We get some great fights in but I wish our world had more people so we could actually compete and have a sense of tension. Right now it feels like we fell out of the match.
Keep fighting. There’s still time to bounce back. We (GoM) had a strong weekend, but it’s way too early to claim victory or count anyone out.
Nah, you’re good. As long as you’re not singling out that one guy with the fragile feelings, your post shouldn’t be in violation. Just don’t blame all of EB/SF for the handful that are mouthing off with their heads clearly up their kitten The matchup has been really fun and respectful, for the most part, and I would love to fight against these servers again in the future. Here’s to hoping all three servers finish the week strong.
Except for Furiousbeard. Kitten that guy.
Late Monday night score update:

Warriors also make good scouts. I don’t know if they’d beat a Thief or Elementalist in a foot race, but you can cover lots of ground quickly by rotating skills between Sword/Warhorn (Savage Leap/Charge) and Greatsword (Whirlwind Attack/Rush). Plus you have Signet of Rage and Bull’s Charge.
Also, I love that camouflage idea. Maybe that’s something the devs can figure out how to work in without being game-breaking.
Sorry you don’t like my opinion. Don’t care.
I know what I saw. I was there.
I trust you took screenshots and reported it to ANet. If not, then you’re part of the problem.
+1 to that, gosu. Everyone was helping with the boring, but necessary, stuff. There were no shortage of blueprints being offered, folks running supply back and forth, and there were even two small groups running protection on dolys. Offense is more fun, but good defense is crucial.
Good stuff all around.
Got proof? Please send screens and video to anet. They issued some permabans recently and I’ve not seen any sign of hacking on our server since. We had all orbs yesterday and the ones I was a part of were legit. If we still have a hacker problem, WE WANT THEM GONE.
This matchup so far has been great. Don’t ruin it by being a kitten.
Some really great battles tonight, folks. I’m enjoying this matchup very much.
Big ups to the [BBF] team of commanders and James Games for actually getting GoM pretty well coordinated. We’re starting to look like a real team out there.
Best of luck, EB and SF!
Hopefully, the new week brings renewed interest and one hell of a fight.
To be honest, I’ve never noticed the damage on Throw Rock. I’ve yet to actually have it save my life or kill anything outside of PvE. For WvW, I’m usually just trying to stall until Vengeance pops up and I can attempt to take a couple of you kittens down with me.
Could be I’m just terrible at playing from a downed state :P
Scissors is an overpowered jerk. Everyone should be as well-balanced as Rock is.
Love,
Paper
