Thread going according to plan.
Time to nerf forums!
Come on, dayside GoM crew. Put down the snowballs and ugly wool sweaters and get your kittens over to WvW.
Sincerely,
The late-night crewLate night crew you say..
You ever see a really spiky Guardian Commander throwing himself into the middle of your zerg.
If so.
Hello. But I do doubt it though.
GoM leave the map when we get on, or so it seems.
NSP is noticeably absent at the times I play (usually sometime between midnight to 4 am CST). You guys are usually holding at around +150 while we’re trading the lead back and forth with AR.
But if you ever run into a spiky sylvari warrior swinging around a giant pirate anchor, do say hello.

Yeah, I saw that happen on Friday night, except it was you guys with the zerg in our borderlands. Three of us were trying to defend a tower against the breakout commander + 2 guys while the rest of our team was fighting your zerg elsewhere. We eventually had to ditch the tower because our keep was being threatened.
I like the idea behind the breakout event, but it’s just not practical. I’d rather see something like an outmanned toughness buff, or free supply from your border spawn if you control no towers or keeps.
Thanks for clarifying. See you guys on the battlefield!
Gl to all playing this week! lets have a good clean match
Thought you guys went to Maguuma or something?
Good luck! We’ll try to keep some people in WvW this time. But Wintersday starts today, and we all know how much GoM loves their holiday events. :P
That’s what candy corn puking is for.
I’m not usually one for show-boating, but that was kitten hilarious.
It’s Audiomachine, “Guardians at the Gate.” The initial portion is the original, and then it switches to the dubstep version after the “nucking futs” quote. I love this tune, was glad I found some footage (that I think) worked with it.

Thanks for the info! I think it works very well with the video. As a fellow hammer stomp warrior from another server, I was entertained.
What song is that?
Hey guys, Ferrum Blacktide here, a commander from GoM. You guys losing is not a result of outnumbering, cheating, or hacking. The commanders of GoM have been planning our comeback for the past two weeks, so thank you all for being a part of it. It really means a lot to me that so many of you guys are still being good sports about it.
PS: GoM finally learned to defend.
Look, I know that you’re happy your efforts are finally paying off. As a fellow GoM player, I’m grateful for your hard work and planning that lead up to this point. But your post comes across as arrogant whether you intended it that way or not.
As part of the team that hit all three borderlands, I definitely felt we had the numbers advantage. There were a few excellent skirmishes here and there against enemy zergs, but we were left mostly unchecked for the much of the night even when pushing multiple objectives. Perhaps this is the result of good strategy and execution, but it’s still no reason to chest-thump. We still have a long way to go.
At any rate, our primary focus while we have control of the scoreboard should be to convert our fair-weather server-mates. Let’s teach them how to properly set up and use siege, show them when to defend or push, tell them the importance of WHY we’re taking certain objectives, etc. If we’re going to be the zerg server this week, let’s do it gracefully and re-invest our efforts into strengthening our server for future matchups.
I love WvW, but I’m a little worried that the changes are going to be something like this:
“Get ready for a one time WvWvW event that will change the borderlands FOREVER!!!
BEHOLD, orbs are back, guarded by a new terror in a previously unseen underwater objective point! Explore these new realms, and you might even find hidden treasures! We’ve added more, stronger monsters to the war lands where agony will kill all but the strongest of hero’s!
You spoke, we listened! One time events. More underwater combat. More jumping puzzles. More exciting dungeon combat. Coming FEBRUARY 15th!"
This was priceless… All of it.
Even better, have a duel. Losing guild has to transfer to BP.
I would welcome EOH to our server. We have had great fights against them and they use great strats.
You hear that, ktith? Hadan thinks your guild would lose the duel!
This guy here, this Mr. BattleAxe, he’s a troublemaker.
It’s never too early to start playing the meta for a possible future match-up.
Best of luck, folks! I think we’re all looking forward to some action after last week’s lop-sided match-ups.

I miss the AR/BP rivalry, but I’m definitely looking forward to starting up a new rivalry with ET/HoD. All three servers have been hit hard by free server transfers and those of us who remain are fighting our kitten off week after week of uphill battles just because we didn’t want to take the easy way out. Three scrappy servers in one tier. This should make for a good matchup.
As for AR, I’m rooting for you guys. Go take BP down a notch.
As for BP well did you ever actually watch them in action ? If they didn’t have numbers the server would have been deleted due to stupidity.
I wish I could +2 this.
I haven’t seen too much GoM this time around as I have in the past match-ups. I think they have been spending more time on their Borderlands and EB; however, definitely lots of AR members to go around.
Yeah, for the most part we’ve been pretty much leaving you guys alone. AR is a big target and we enjoy wrecking their house. We just don’t have the numbers to hang on to anything we take, so it’s been a big smash’n’grab all week.
Looking forward to seeing some GoM vs ET on Friday!
I love watching these. Keep ‘em coming! The Quip sound effects are a nice touch… so friggin’ obnoxious.
Last night went quite well. Let’s keep things rolling.
Everyone always jumps in with “other classes have abilities that help you stomp too.” This is absolutely true, but these abilities have long cool downs, and you are generally sacrificing important “Oh crap” or burst damage abilities. Invulnerability, Haste, and Stability are all hard boons to come by. You can’t just pop them all the time.
On the other hand, a thief can stealth stomp, and still have several additional stealths available. He sacrifices much less for the stomp.
I’m not necessarily saying that stealth stomping has to go, but in the interest of a useful discussion, lets at least admit that stealth stomping is very powerful for how inexpensive it is.
Most of the abilities I listed are regular skills (pets and aoe/conditions). Perhaps I should have just said, “Stealth stomping for thieves is ok because several other classes don’t even NEED to stomp to finish people off effectively.”
When I’m playing my thief alt, I usually just shortbow people to death. I save the stealth stomps for if I’m deep into the enemy lines and need to assassinate someone and get the hell out.
Every class has some kind of mechanic to assist in finishing opponents. Thieves stealth. Rangers, Mesmers, Engineers, and Guardians use pets/illusions/turrets/spirit weapons to attack you in downed state while they focus their attention elsewhere. Eles and Necros throw down some aoes with conditions and can pretty much take a nap while you bleed out. Warriors just brute force through your downed abilities with Balanced Stance or sheer hp.
And then Anvil Rock took the world.
And not a single kitten was given.Which isn’t a good thing, but with them just sorta sitting there, waiting outside spawn, we don’t exactly have a strong position to fight back from.
If you gave GoM back the overlook we could have a good old fashioned fight rather than a picnic outside spawn.
Kitten the police.
The matchup is just starting for some of us. Don’t get comfortable.
Late-night player here. My guild are all local friends and don’t tend to WvW much, so I can usually be found running with whatever objectives LoR and RH are working on.
If I can ever spark WvW within my own guild, we’d be able to field enough for flip-squads on two maps.
If there’s ever a server merge, I’d happily welcome AR to our ranks. Them Anvil Rock folks are a-ok in my book.
And WHERE should we be watching and prepared to shoot some video? o_O
the few original GoM players that are left(if there are more of you out there, you’re probably feeling this way) are so demoralized after seeing our population diminish constantly, every week we seem to have less GoMs and more of whatever enemy team.
I’m primarily a late-night player and couldn’t be happier with GoM right now. Maybe it’s different for you day-siders and prime-timers, but our overnight crew has been out in force the last couple of weeks, even on weeknights. Pretty much every night this week, I’d have to finally force myself to log off around 5:30 am CST even though multiple commanders were still online and major battles were still happening. AR and BP’s late-nighters weren’t too shabby, either.
You really should post more often. That was an enjoyable read.
I wish there were a mechanic in place to prevent that. Such as if your scoring falls below +50, your server’s Lion’s Arch waypoints become contested in PvE land. Those PvErs already reap the benefit of the WvW bonuses we provide, so might as well give ’em a penalty to make sure they defend their land.
If http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA holds true, AR = Green, ET = Blue, GoM = Red.
The aftermath of my encounter with the BP ele from hell:
http://youtu.be/k3T8UlkSpW8
I was going to try to have some fun with the situation and creep into enemy territory as a corpse, but the bug fixed itself right after. :/
You do realize that it’s the music that makes him do that much damage, right?
I’m only 2 minutes into watching, and I’m already giving you guys a +1 for music selection.
Cheers!
The ele solo’d for a good bit against like 6 of us and was kitten unkillable. Human female with black hair and had [OFF] as the guild tag. Later on, they were joined by another d/d ele (sylvari male with white hair I think) and an asuran mesmer with [EDGE] tag. The sylvari ele appeared to be using the same build, but was no where near as effective as the human female.
Edit: I’m gonna upload a video later on, too. I got killed so hard by that kitten ele that I got stuck “planking” after respawning at a waypoint. Couldn’t stop laughing.
Heeey!
Special Shout out to the D/D Elementalist from BP that prolly use the hybrid build from the NOM guild. I think your char is a female human and you have the title of berry eater or don’t remember what. You are a pain in the kitten to fight and it was a pleasure. This elementalist! My guild knows this elementalist well. Pain in the kitten
Does that ele have any videos up? I was part of a small group who got absolutely smashed by that ele last night. Granted, I was playing an under-leveled alt and will hit downed state if someone so much as even glares at me, but I really liked their play-style. Beyond the build they were using, they dodged like a boss.
I always love seeing videos like this. Nicely done!
Any word on if there will be another free trial weekend during the Wintersday event?
I’ve got a couple of former guildies from other games who bought/upgraded their computers during Black Friday/Cyber Monday and they’re interested in trying out GW2.
Quick addendum on the Vengeance skill: I’m pretty sure downing players does not count as a kill and does not trigger a rally. There’s simply not enough time to reliably down AND finish a player before you either die again or vengeance wears off. I mostly use Vengeance to rez downed allies instead.
The 100% rally trait is only useful in PvE. And it’s INCREDIBLY useful at that.
Sign me up for Yaks of Madness. Although, I’d be just as happy on Gates of Rock.
If I’m missing anything lemme know, I’m not a master at each class, but I have a basic understanding of what happens during WvW.
The amusing part, and you’re spot-on with the clear omission, is that warriors are clearly a waste of time at WvW in this game, second only to necromancers.
Ironic, given that the very name, ‘warrior’, implies ‘one who wages war’ – should’ve named us ‘fodder’ or ‘siege engine operator’ or something, as we’re regularly outclassed in melee and ranged combat, especially in groups. If you want to WvW, apparently, playing a ranger or elementalist is where it’s at for combat & support, playing a mesmer is great if you want to feel needed for that one useful ability. If you want to be a jerk during WvW, play a thief (at least while permastealth allows capping.) Guardians are OK for combat, and are nice for support. Warriors? Feh. Don’t bother.
If you’re not interested in WvW, play a warrior or necromancer.
Sounds like you’ve encountered a very serious L2P issue. Don’t panic, though. There are many forum posts and videos on this topic that can help you resolve the situation on your own without having to return your game disc.
Good luck!
The downed states in general need to be reevaluated. These two are definitely the most powerful because they allow classes to get back into the fight immediately rather than forcing a 5 minute walk from spawn that every other class faces upon defeat outside tower walls.
Finding this thought really funny. Warriors and Elementalists have the most powerful downed skills in the game? I’m sure some of the more experienced ele’s on this thread have already made their point on this and will have to remake it again. But as for a warrior, I would consider them to have the 2nd worst downed abilities of all classes. Only an engineer can beat them in this department. But here’s the warrior…
1. You can throw rocks at people.
2. You can throw a hammer at someone for a knockdown. This hammer can be stopped like any attack by blind where it goes on it’s cooldown and you’re going to be dead before it’s available again. Also, it can be body blocked by someone standing directly on top of the warrior.
3. You can Vengeance. As has been stated, unlike mist form this is not immediately available. Provided your hammer actually worked and gave you some time you might still be around for this to work. Vengeance is buggy and killing 1 guy does not guarantee a rally. The worst I’ve seen is 16 kills in PvE and no rally. For this reason of course most of them are going to run into the tower for a rezz. While other classes may not have the ability to enter a tower while downed, they do possess skills that allow them an easier time getting to the door. Thieves stealth: Mesmer clones+stealth, Guardian auto aegis and activatable protective buffs, Engineers have an evade elixir, Necromancer death shroud. Can’t think of one for rangers =/ but this would be why I don’t see it as a problem that 2 classes have a way through that door if downed. If you’re really desperate for that warrior to die on your side of the gate then can I suggest killing him? You have plenty of time.
How dare you use logic on these forums! Begone!
Speaking about scouting, EQ2 did a couple of things right. I believe a class like rangers should have an ability to “track” enemy players. Tracking will give a tactical advantage to whoever is paying attention.
I wanted to focus on this point because I think you’ve hit upon something really brilliant. Not long-distance tracking like you’re suggesting. Instead, I’m thinking more in terms of seeing stealthed enemies.
There’s a legendary weapon I saw some guy running around with that caused him to leave behind glowing footprints. Imagine if the Ranger could see glowing footprints any time someone activated stealth. Hell, even extend that effect to Mesmers and their clones (the real Mesmer would leave glowing footprints but clones wouldn’t). The Ranger would suddenly become very powerful in terms of neutralizing two of the most complained-about professions in the game. And, as a built-in counter to this ability, Thieves and Mesmers choosing to stand still wouldn’t generate any footprints.
I think the skill would work best as a passive signet so that only the footprints are only visible to the Ranger, and can be activated to give the Ranger their own few seconds of stealth (think camouflage).
Thoughts?
If we could somehow load siege golems INTO a catapult…
Mostly electronic/rock/industrial crossover stuff. Pendulum, Prodigy, Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Asian Dub Foundation, Sleepy Eyes of Death, etc.
Gates of Madness
We’d pioneered flight on GW2.
Currently WvW uses the same skills as PvE, so PvP balance changes do not have an impact on WvW.
Thanks for the clarification!
I’d like to see the 5-cap get removed completely, for healing AND damage skills. No limit. If everyone wants to stand in a red circle, they should all get hit.
I want to launch a whole kitten zerg with my warrior stomp!
