This is my first post after lurking for a while. Before the i actually start the thread, i want to state that yes im a bad thief but im hoping people who are legitimately interested in giving actual feedback and tips for me to help me out or any of the other P/P enthusiasts out there. Thanks for helping me!

I run a high-mobility kiting dps build that uses no stealth. It’s meant for solo and small group play. Here is the build I use, and here is a playlist of videos that show how I use it. It’s by no means the only way to make an effective P/P build, but it’s the one that fits my playstyle the best.

If you’ve got any specific questions on traits/skills, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help answer them!

Well, for me, I used to go to WvW on GoM and try it….AND could never find many people to play with. Hard to learn that way. So I’d stay for a little while and then log off.

I thought about transferring to another server before the league began, but I really like the GoM community, so I decided to be loyal even if looked like WvW wasn’t going to be a big thing on GoM. Wow—was I and lots of other people ever wrong.

SO…for me, I can now log on and play with lots of people and finally learn WvW. It’s fun and I like it and I hope GoM can keep up the enthusiasm!

Awesome! If you haven’t already done so, ask around in /map chat for info about the GoM website and community-wide Teamspeak server. It’s not just restrictive to WvW players. We’ve got forums and chat channels set up for other things like dungeon raids and guilds.

We haven’t gotten transfers. GoM has always had a HUGE PvE population. When most of our WvW guilds left, we couldn’t really attract any outside interest because our server carried max transfer cost 24/7 even while in T8 (as opposed to much larger WvW servers like Mag/DB/FA that would occasionally dip into “high” population during off-peak hours).

What you’re seeing are the achievement hunters finally dipping their toes into WvW content for the first time. Tons upon tons of fresh commanders and full armies that are on the field, learning how to use siege, how camp buffs work, why you shouldn’t chase enemies into their spawn, why charging face-first into a full line of AR ballistas on the lord room bridge at Mendon’s is a terrible idea, etc…

Hopefully, we’ll be able to convert some of those numbers. Several of our core guilds have been working with the new players to train them on how to fight and how to modify their builds for WvW survivability. So far the response has been very positive.

Hopefully, AR/DR can retain some of their new players as well.

Its been at least 1 hour 30 minutes since GoM flipped anything of DR’s except camps…

GoM may have numbers during weekends and primetime, but nights and days we suffer bbbbbbbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddd. I hope we don’t lose our lead during the week, but it’s possible. GoM is a server full of 9-5ers it seems. We used to have RISE, but they bailed a while back, and I think they were our only real nighttime presence as an Australian guild.

All that said, yeah, this weekend has been insane. GoM hasn’t had these numbers since release that I’ve seen, it’s unreal. I just hope it lasts.

Just remember your playing against the 2 lowest population/coverage servers on na. So I would just be getting prepared for whoever is your next opponent. We had the outmanned buff in eb almost the entire weekend and I don’t expect it to change during the week.

It’s never wise to look past an opponent. AR/DR are capable of pulling off some big things if we drop our guard.

I like to /sit spam on dead allies, if that makes you feel any better.

I ran rifle/greatsword on my warrior for reset. Killshots and Bull’s Charge → Hundred Blades all night long. It’s just like launch all over again!

Just curious, but MOS has Kaineng at rank 16 after this matchup. That leaves them in silver league as the 8th spot there I believe. 1-8 is Gold, 9-16 is Silver, and 17-24 Bronze, correct?

I know MOS is not official, but thought it was as close as it can get.

Bronze league is supposed to be the place for outcasts and outlaws, exiles and rejects, and players otherwise too stubborn to join the ranks of the 1-spamming masses in seeking silly reward chests. By nature, we’re filled with enough kitten and vinegar necessary to survive on wasteland servers, and I expect nothing short of glorious spite and vitriol in every matchup going forward.

As you have yet to fully master playing thief without using stealth, I suggest you try out Loki. He can go invisible, backstab, and even has a teleport to pick people off or escape. Then you can spam [VEL] after killing someone because that is Smite’s version of /laugh.

I mainly play carries and tanks (usually Apollo because pew-pew and Ymir because he’s kitten Ymir). I can make a new lowbie account this weekend if you want to party up, that way you won’t have to go up against a team full of level 30’s while you’re still learning.

It’s interesting to note that the gap in rating between NSP and IoJ — the bottom two servers in Silver — is greater than the gap between Kaineng and AR — the top and bottom servers in Bronze.

For those people on GoM and AR: what do you think would be the state of your servers after fighting two (non-tanking) NSPs every week for 7 weeks?

It’s actually going to be worse than that for NSP: NSP will be facing servers with 250 – 500 more ratings points for 7 weeks. That’s like GoM or AR facing servers like: NSP, IoJ, CD, YB, BP, Ebay, DB for 7 straight weeks.

The difference is that both GoM and AR would nut up and keep playing.

The sad reality is that this tanking fiasco between KN/NSP/HoD is actually the most competitive thing that’s happened in WvW in a very long time.

As creator of the patented Honeybun’s super awesome Treb loacation strategy, I, Starlight Honeybuns thoroughly approve of such placements.

On a side note, Me and the Missus were discussing and we came to the conclusion that The Gate of Madness keeps were lacking in the treb decoration department, we are willing to pay gold for who ever decks out these keeps in proper accord. Please provide screen shots.

For every day you stand on that sinking ship of a server I am impressed. It is just a ghost town there. No idea how you do it.

Well, transferring off would further perpetuate the problem and let ArenaNet know that the WvW model they designed is working as intended. I can’t speak for Styx, but the reason I’m still around is that I love the guild I’m in and what’s left of the GoM community. While there’s a couple of other servers out there that I’d really enjoy playing on if I had to transfer, I don’t see any sense of long-term stability anywhere in this entire game mode. I’d rather spend what’s left of my GW2 time playing on GoM and gradually shift my competitive interests to other games.

So I noticed some GoM laughing when they wiped the 10 man Os group with 50 GoM. I guess they had an achievement unlocked from killing us. Was funny having 50 ppl chase us halfway across EB just to try to kill us

Vice versa in GoM BL & NSP Bl; I honestly thought i’d be getting more out of this matchup from NSP.

Personally, I only do laughs when someone from the other side does it first but anyway what I mean is that GoM seems to really want Os dead, not NSP in general. Plus whenever our zergs seem to have equal/close to equal numbers, GoM seems to run away and never engage Os at all which makes it boring for us

PVT gear with zerker trinkets is good enough for a WvW P/P build without sacrificing too much damage. You’ll still be fairly squishy, but at least you won’t get insta-gibbed by another thief’s backstab combo.

Also, I’d recommend ditching the Sigil of Purity because of this one line on the wiki:
“This sigil can trigger and enter cooldown even when the wearer is free of conditions.”

You can find far better ways to spend a universal sigil cooldown than on a condi-cleanse that procs even if you have no conditions.

Yes! and thank you for a well done video. I don’t ever see guesting as being a viable wvw option, but the first part of the video illustrates much of what I was thinking when developing this idea. Teams to mix it up some, reduce the stacking, and keep things interesting.

Doh, to the point about 15 -18 not having teamates. I never made a full team league flow chart, but this video shows how it could work fairly well.

Well, the idea behind guesting is to give the player base the power to be able to smooth out population gaps on their own. Right now, the server populations are so varied that not even an 8-tier system works.

Guesting essentially simplifies the game into 3 HUGE-population teams and 32 maps to play on that are all scored equally. It also gives players the freedom to play the type of WvW they want to play, whether it be epic large-scale fights or small-scale roaming, whenever they want, while still contributing to a unified goal. And the current guesting limit of 2 servers per day seems like it would be sufficient enough to deter abuse.

that was me you run meta builds you get spammed laughed at or seige on the corpse, get used to it. on another note i have 750 ballistas, i won’t be running out of seige any time soon.

All these people talking about meta builds… I’ve been running the same thing for a year now and just because someone else made something similar and made it a public guide it’s “meta”.
Like someone else said, when a build works and it becomes public knowledge it gets copied into a “meta”. With the maturity of the game just about anything worth running is pretty darn meta.
I’m going to assume you’re from RH since that’s who Vioh was complaining about and who chased us across the map (which was kind of funny I’ll admit), if this is the case I feel the need to point out the irony of your group having 1 or 2 condition warriors, which are quite meta as well.

This probably wont go over well , but i will say it. For every Nsp person that pops into a map saying “you realize if you continue to get points , we will get put into silver” (not aimed at anyone in particular as it happened about 6 times today pvdooring Ar). YES I GET IT.

I realize fully the situation we are in. I am probably in the minority when i say this but. I want to play in silver league. As it stands now , the lower tiers have nothing to offer more then lots of pvdoor. Sure there are a strong server or 2 that will give fights. but the thought of running around in Ar on a Saturday morning with 3 people flipping the map saddens me.

So yes i will pvdoor and do whatever. I dont want to sink into the basement and fight nothing for 7 weeks.

You are probably saying, THEN XFER OFF kitten!!.. well i happen to like Nsp. I like fighting people. NOT PVE. So i will ride this storm into where ever it takes the server.

If we get stuck in the bronze league , ill try it out. if its what i think it will be. Then i will look into other options. Like xfer to a server in silver that is getting pounded.

I am speaking for just me. as i have no idea what my guild wants to do. I haven’t really mentioned it yet aside from a few people.

I am sorry to any and all who hate the way I think. I am sorry for wanting the hard path. I also am sorry in advance if we make the silver league. Knowing fully i will pvdoor all week to try and get there.

I managed to get my ranger up to level 12 before I deleted him. I know I didn’t really give it a proper chance to develop with traits and all that, but even the basic mechanics of the class were so frustrating to use. Good luck with yours!

Dear XOXO, I am playing a level 20 mesmer this week in an attempt to balance the matchup. Please instruct me on how to properly kill my opponents so I can stop being Worst Mesmer NA. I only ask that you don’t kill me because the walk back to anywhere on the map is approximately 45 minutes long. :/

Disagree completely. Thief needs MORE condition cleanse options that don’t depend on stealth, not less… especially with the current meta’s incredible emphasis on condi-spam builds.

Maybe it got ignored, maybe Devon watched it and couldn’t comment on it without discussing it with his team first. Who knows… I’m just glad we finally got a sliver of communication going between the WvW team and the playerbase. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities like this in the future.

This is no laughing matter, sir.

Even though I use them, I am OUTRAGED that fireworks somehow made it past the balancing team and into live gameplay. Fireworks are single-handedly powerful enough to be its own build regardless of profession and can easily lock down just about any other build in the game, besides another fireworks build, of course. I highly suggest you get your own fireworks and try them out so you can see for yourself how broken they really are.

I love that article. It’s a must read.
I remember like 8? years ago when I first read it and played FFXI, and it motivated me to be the best I could possibly be, and learn the game mechanics, learn the math, learn how stuff interacts, etc. That desire to not be a scrub has continued with me to this day and Im very thankful for this article as I had never even thought about it before then.

Yup, that article and Seth Killian’s angsty Domination 101 series are pretty much gospel for the fighting game community, but translate so well outside of the genre as well.
