Probably go the route of GW1. Add a fancy new medal on the log-in screen to account for the new region and add a new title and progression altogether for the new region.

3/10. I played 100% of the event and got all of the achievements and even a few weapon skins from some of my buddies. I had a lot more fun in the GW1 events than I did in the GW2 equivalent so far.

I’m hoping Christmas isn’t this much of a flop. If it wasn’t for the event being about who has the most gold and being about making money instead of having fun I’d be inclined to rate it higher, but as it stands the only people who enjoyed the event the most were the ones who made hundreds of gold off of it.

All of my human characters are female. Norn characters are male, Charr male, Asura Male, and I don’t have any plants.

The reason I chose female over male is because if I’m going to look at an underwear model while I play I want it to be a female one.

I can say I have experienced this in the couple times I tried to complete the battlegrounds puzzle. Most people just ignored me though on my last time through.

But it took me having wait until a odd time of day when the population in WvW is low. Like really late at night/early morning. And if that doesn’t help then it helps to have the upper hand in WvW for that week; now I know that that isn’t so easy to come by as my server is losing about 70% of the time. If all that fails, just transfer to the winning server that is doing it and try again. :/

That said, personally I feel this behavior is scumbag. But I think ANet encouraged it by making it exist in the first place. So I’m not sure if it would entirely be considered griefing as terribly annoying as it is.

I agree with you. It’s a very scummy thing to do and the fact that people get enjoyment out of it and play for the sole purpose of ruining other player’s experience is really unfortunate.

While it is a PvP zone, there are groups of 3-10 people who do nothing but grief the jumping puzzle in EB the entire time they log on. I know this because I know people that do it.

They think it’s a blast constantly screwing with people in that last room and ensuring that nobody gets the chest. They litereally log in, go to EB, and camp the jumping puzzle for up to 10 hours at a time.

Once again, we realize it is an open PvP zone, but the act of messing with people for the sole purpose of “It’s fun to do this” is just wrong and completely 100% griefing. I’m not going to harp on this or even comment on it much because it’s frustrating enough dealing with it – let alone talking about it.

I’ve said my 2 cents.

50$ and 10g on gems for keys day 1 of the event. Out of all the chests I opened – no loot. Opened tons of Mad King chests – no loot. Really I feel more kitten off about that because now my 10g and 50$ worth of boosters is gone. Sweet.

Sigh. Saved the killstreak boosters for this because they’re worthless. Only to find I can’t use them? FML.

Agreed. I’m more kitten off now than I was when I accepted wasting 50$ on keys. Now I get to waste the items I got from the 50$ worth of chests opened. So before I at least had boosters. Now I have nothing.

It was a cool idea but I mean… the chances are the same as the freakin Black Lion Chests – which is to be expected but seriously lol

Hey SMART GUY – how do they get there in the first place if nobody gets them from CHESTS?

So these perma skins are ~500 gold on the trading post currently. They are level 80 exotics. 500 gold for a holiday item. Nice. Glad to see that this holiday is about having fun, not about who has the biggest wallet.

The only thing I’d have interest in is the Shield from the black lion chests, but we’re getting off topic. I think my view on this has changed since I made the thread considering all you really need to do is save up some Candy Corn and then you can craft these at any time.

Yeah I honestly do. Its a bit ridiculous to expect anyone but the supremely dedicated or the very very rich to be able to craft this. And only the very rich could do it during the event. Its awesome to have things like this for those people to craft, but the skins for the three craftable Halloween weapons don’t seem worth it. These skins should have just been a couple hundred candy corn a piece from a vendor and some darker more exotic skins should have been able to be crafted, with one for every weapon type.

I guess I never really looked at it that way. So technically I could just save enough of the Candy Corns and get the rest of the materials later to be able to craft this?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like crafting the permanent skins are nearly half of what it takes to acquire a legendary in the game?

For me, all I really wanted was the shield (from crafting). To craft said shield, there are 2 different ways of doing so currently. One with a profession and one with Mystic Forge (reason being if you don’t have the max profession you can still craft it).

Here are the materials required:

So all of the boosters, salvage kits and tools can be converted into Halloween items? That’s good to hear. Maybe not the 50$ I spent on keys won’t be for nothing. Glad to see them taking steps like this.

Yeah the expectation of generosity from GW1 was my biggest mistake. I keep telling people this isn’t WoW, this is a sequel to GW1. I’m wrong. I’m not sure what this is. It’s a mix of a few things, but someone on the inside definitely works for Nexon.

I think the drop rate on these skins is far too low. Especially because they made no mention of how rare they would be. I really don’t like the idea of having to spend so much money (gold or otherwise) to get a holiday item. They should be the rewards for doing the new jumping puzzles or the scavenger hunt. Agreed. I still can’t believe how cheated I feel over this. I defend Anet so much for not being another Nexon company but here I am eating my words. I really hope they don’t _ up the Christmas event. That was my favorite GW1 event and if they make candy cane weapons a CHANCE from the chests or a store item I will be gone.

Holiday events are for fun and relaxing, not spending tons of money and ripping off other players.

On topic: I do agree though. In GW1 the skins from the store were all account-bound and had a nifty NPC to get them from once you’ve unlocked them.

Same with me. Played GW1 since day 1 and invested TONS of cash into the shop in that game. It was never a “chance” or anything. You paid for account-wide items that made the game that much more involved.

I also feel betrayed and I guess it’s my own fault for thinking that the design philosophies they had in GW1 would remain in tact. I’m ashamed to have defended this so much these last few months.

Here is the real problem…

People who spent $50+ on keys and got nothing are not likely to spend that muckittens again. This is a trick that only works once. Even hardcore gamblers stop taking chances if they don’t feel they will ever win.

Also if you ever watch people buying scratch tickets, they usually keep buying scratch tickets on a regular basis. This is because scratch tickets usually have a ~1:5 chance of paying back $1. So if they drop $20 on tickets, they win back a few $$$ and go “Aww shucks, at least I got $4 back! I will keep trying”. If those same people kept spending $20 and winning nothing, they would stop wasting $20.

Yep. I went from being somebody totally happy to pay money, to somebody who will only grudgingly pay for an expansion. That isn’t good business.

You are not guaranteed to receive a rare item after opening a Black Lion Chest. You have a chance to get a unique/rare item. Some people are luckier than others. The Halloween skins are tradeable, so if you aren’t able to get them in a Black Lion Chest, you can obtain them on the Trading Post.

Reading this at work knowing that I’ll be patching overnight. By tomorrow morning gem to gold ratio will probably have gone back to normalish so it wouldn’t be worth it to convert gems to gold to buy the skins I want. Really disappointed. I quit Nexon games because of this kind of ‘pay for a 1% chance’ to get something approach to their cash shop and this feels no different.

I had thought about buying gems to get keys for this event, and I’d have been happy to pay for it if the chance of getting skins was actually decent, but that’s not going to happen after reading all these posts. We don’t do Halloween here but I was under the impression it was supposed to be about lots of candy and lots of fun. This just seems like a whole lot of frustration and misery.

I’m sure the skins aren’t the only thing in the event but it was definitely a big one. Knowing that a lot of players might only want to play around with the skin for the Halloween period – I don’t predict to see everyone running around with scythes and chainsaws a few months from now when the event gets old or when there’s new stuff for Christmas – why make it so difficult to obtain?

Exactly. Hollidays are supposed to be fun and relaxing. In GW1 everyone was running around with Halloween stuff during Halloween. Christmas stuff during Christmas. It’s just because it’s a fun, festive thing to do.

I gladly paid for every costume in GW1 and had every Christmas weapon from Gw1 as well and it was a blast seeing tons of people dressed up and having fun. When this stuff happens, whoever has the most money wins. And that is complete bull___.

I was so excited for something different from other games and similar to GW1 and am sadly ashamed and disappointed. This whole experience ruined this Holliday event for me already. Tons of my buddies and guildies in vent having fun doing the event but I’m already too kitten off to even be logged into the game.

Good on you. I am doing the GW1 one now and having fun not spending the price of a brand new Xbox or PC game in the process. And I am going to get less of a reward for the 50$ I just spent in GW1 than the 0.00 I will spend in GW1.

The choices here are simple: try to get skins yourself through BLCs, or buy from those who were lucky.

Unfortunately the players who got lucky enough are selling them for ungodly amounts of gold.

Unfortunately people spent ungodly amounts of money on keys instead of gold.

Besides that, it would be horrible if they were affordable for everyone because everyone would be running around with the same skins.

The actual problem here is the variety of the skins: there is only one per weapon type. Because there are so few skins available, the rarity for these has to be high enough for them to be even unique and enjoyable in the first place.

In the future, ANet should attempt to add more of a variety of items for those willing to spend money on these events. This way, the chance of getting any specific item will be very low, but there will be plenty of other items to get.

If taken into enough consideration, they could add tiers to the rarity, so everyone could have their generic holiday items, and the lucky/rich ones will have valuable items worth something to the community.

Hey guy. Not sure if you played GW1 but everyone was able to come by the Holiday items in GW1. So yes, everyone was running around with the free festive items during the holidays. What a shock. It’s about fun, not being special elitist snowflakes.

I’d be fine with tiers of rarity, that way you can figure if you spend the real cash on it you would get something better than free. Which is what I expected.

If you want this skins you can always buy them from the BLC. They are expensive? Of course, considering how rare they are. But you could get them guaranteed if you were a bit smarter and didn’t spend all money on the lottery.
About point that they are not like legendaries cause they can be done only during Halloween event: think of it like of the limited edition of some… stock. It makes them even more expensive. Why I know that they are so expensive? Because you desire them, they are pricey to you.

Thanks for the lecture. Unfortunately some of us spent the cash right away to support Anet and get a chance at some goodies from the get-go. We learned from that mistake.

Exactly my point, it’s pretty sad that some people who have paid to get keys aren’t getting the skins, but usually I would say that’s just bad luck. However, when we’re getting absolute junk, and none of it even related to the event that they hyped up so much, it really leaves a bitter feeling.

That’s my biggest problem. 12 candy corn. That’s what I got from 50$ and 10g worth of keys. 12 candy corn and the regular junk that comes in them. I guess I had it coming. I defended Anet for years and here I am getting bit in the butt for it.

Oh also, GG on gems being almost 1g for 100 gems. I bet by tomorrow they will be over 1g for 100 gems.

Yep. First couple hours of the events and already I’m kitten off and upset at the whole thing. I loved the GW1 events and I was giddy like a school girl waiting for the first GW2 event and here I am now kitten off not even looking forward to the remainder of this event.

This is my biggest complaint is that these events are supposed to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. Right now all it is is people getting lucky and being greedy to the rest of everyone else. People are selling some of the items for over 30 gold in map chat on my server.

Does anybody know if these are going to be the same items every year? As far as weapon skins go, I mean.

Yep, the joy of randomized festivities in a “fun” event. The only people having fun here are the people who are going to buy out all of the skins and own the market themselves.

Made my own thread about this as well. I spent 50$ and 10g and got not 1 skin. People I know have usekitteny (from personal story or luck) and gotten a skin. I’m a little kitten off.

When I spend almost the price of a brand new copy of the game and get NOTHING from it, there is a problem. I am advising all of my friends and guildies not to waste their money on this or future events because of this. I am hoping that Anet does right and makes amends for this because I am not the only one that got ripped off.
