Not everything can be completed by everyone. I never finished the Mad King Clock Tower after hours upon hours of trying. I take it in good spirit, was blinking fun trying!

This is exactly what I think every time I see a thread like this.

It was pretty awesome to get one for the first time. I was like “wait, what?” lol “It’s not Christmas unless you get an awful fruitcake or an ugly sweater!” hahaha

I beat it 2 tries. And the one time I failed was because my guildies were “OMG THIS EVENT!” in Ventrilo and distracted me lol.

Just be patient, watch a walk-through if you need to, but it is significantly easier than the Halloween one.

There seems to be an element of entitlement from some people in this thread, as if not having the skill and patience should give the same rewards to someone that does not. Computer games don’t work that way.

In fact, the risk should match the reward. And in the case of the clocktower, it was defiantly appropriate as you got an 80 exotic for completion for a few hours work.

Personally, I found it fun and I’m really looking forward to the next challenge. And I’m quite happy to see that they’re addressing the problems which are unrelated to personal skill (other players blocking the view) which should make the whole thing more enjoyable.

Minis do not make your character stronger or contribute to your success in the game. It’s also the first day of the event.

You don’t seem to have learned the fundamental lesson from the Clock Tower, though:

Make the jumping puzzle solo, make other players invisible, or at least render them with a different (small) model so they don’t block our view of our own character or the platforms we’re aiming for.

Or does someone at Arena Net enjoy the notion of having everyone shout “fat norn, stop blocking my view” for two more weeks?

They split the puzzle up so you’re running with significantly less people. I find the public puzzles fun. This is nothing like the Halloween clock tower so don’t even try to compare. That was outrageously challenging and fun (and rewarding to finish).

If you can’t complete it, try harder or just avoid them at all. Really – they are not crucial components for success in the game so if you can’t complete them move on or try harder.

Not to mention this puzzle has no tight areas where the other people actually block your screen anyway.

The Winter Wonderland is even worse than the Clocktower. I didn’t think it could be done, but somehow you did it. You made a jumping puzzle that is even more impossible (yes, I know that it’s impossible to be more than impossible, but this is indeed even more impossible). Those of us who have trouble with the existing jumping puzzles (whether because of the movement engine’s fiddly hitboxes, the myopic field of view and lack of depth cues, poor reflexes or disabilities, or any other reason) are completely screwed for this one; there is no hope whatsoever of getting its achievement.

I thought you were going to be inclusive to all players with your content, but apparently there is in fact some content that’s locked away from a section of the playerbase by design.

Do not repeat this performance in subsequent events.

It’s so much easier.

Here’s a tip that can apply to a lot of jumping puzzles to make them easier:

Click and hold down the right mouse button as you run the puzzle

Yeah, thanks for the hot tip, genius. I already do that. I’m not an idiot. The game has no depth cues at all and I still have to pause after every jump to realign myself and hit the next platform. This is why I couldn’t do the Clocktower, there wasn’t time to do that. There isn’t time to do that on this one, either. I’m glad all you twitch-masters can pull it off but I’ve given it twelve tries already and it’s still damned impossible for someone like me.

The guy tries to help and you just flame him. Move along folks, nothing to see here. Another bitter player who doesn’t know how to play so he rages on other people for it. I’d feel sympathy and offer assistance if I didn’t think you were such a bitter, ungrateful person.

Agreed. I was worried that the feel, fun and overall qualities that made GW1 Wintersday Memorable would be omitted or changed to the point I wouldn’t like it. I’m happy to say that I’m satisfied with the event so far and I love that they included the winter music from GW1 as well as new GW2 stuff.

All of the events are really fun and exciting and I can’t wait to see the rest of the event

I don’t know about you guys, but I finished this JP on my third try. It took me at least 20 tries, a rage-quit, and a whole lotta swearing before I finished the clocktower JP.

IMO this is a much easier JP. However, it sucks that we have to rush through it and not take the time to check out the surroundings. ANet did an awesome job with the details.

When you finish the puzzle you can look back at everyone else doing it and check out the “hidden vista(?)”

I’m assuming that the completion area IS the “hidden vista,” not that there is an actual vista point?

Well yeah but there is an area in the completion zone (beyond a mini jumping puzzle) to get to a high point with a giant red star. Not a vista per se, but it is one nice view.

So in other words a waste to spend on it seeing as it’s two thirds of what it costs of a weapon skin? Not sure what the benefit of getting it is.

I was a hardcore GW2 fanboy, but Wintersday has seriously got me rethinking my games.

Yeah unfortunately I’ve seen a good number of people going around with 100% swiftness uptime running around collecting as many gifts as possible and just dashing out once mobs spawn. Kind of lame… but it’s an MMO – there will always be this kind of player.

Same here.. I didn’t even know they disappeared. I knew the gifts on the “mountain-o-presents” disappeared after a while, but not the snowflakes.

I find it far from conceivable to be able to knowingly blame this player’s opinion on a presumed lack of skill at jumping.

This latest puzzle isn’t all that hard I think (that’s my opinion), but I can’t do it because the particle effects from the snow slow me down too much and making jumping precisely and quickly too difficult of a task. If I had the time to do the puzzle? Yeah, I’d get it done, with patience. But as it’s designed, I can’t do it regardless of my personal skill level or amount of discipline.

But here you are saying reasons why you can’t or won’t. He just doesn’t like jumping puzzles for the simple fact of he thinks that ArenaNet is trying too hard and going overboard with the jump feature that was absent from GW1. He’s doing nothing but flaming – offering no constructive feedback or alternative. Just whining.

They don’t NEED to put in Jumping puzzles, but they are fun little additions and give you something to do so honestly I’m all for them and actually really like them.

Agreed. I would rather the festive minis be farmable and sellable (a la mini polar bear from GW1) or just purchased directly (account-bound) from the gem store or other in game vendor.

They really are doing a lot to improve player experience this time around. I think they learned some valuable lessons from the Karka event and the Halloween fiasco.

…….. This puzzle was a lot easier than the Halloween one. Especially because there were 2 separate puzzles so less people were crowding just 1 puzzle.

Eh, you knew that buying the boxes was a lottery. I spent well over 60$ and ~20g in gems during Halloween on keys – not a single Halloween item. Then used all that junk to make Mad King Chests. Nothing from those either. Yeah I was kitten but life moves on.

Exactly this. I was lucky enough to get a mini polar bear in GW1. It had less than a 0.02% drop rate and some people farmed year after year to no avail. Just saying, this game is not a “Here everyone, have everything!” Event. Everyone should have fun, but nobody should have 100% everything from an event or else there’s no value or rarity anymore.

I’m not talking about getting rich at all but you seem to have misunderstood something here. Really the thread is about at least giving account bound minis their own item. If you thought differently just because of the title then I’m sorry.

No worries. I did get a different impression from the title. I do think that having them account-bound and random is kind of bad. But you know what? They’re common. And Anet is learning and trying to find a good middleground. Just think – all the future events once they do their guinea pigging on us will be much better.

Also just to Clarify I bought 4 sets of 10 boxes (40 boxes total) and got 5 mini pets.. 1 of each and 2 duplicates. You guys need to not worry. It’s the first day of an over 2 week long event. These boxes drop in the world too and the majority of the event isn’t even in the game yet.

Is amazing. ArenaNet did well to improve on what was wrong with the last one. Split the puzzles up so less people are using the same puzzle, made it very wide open, gorgeous, and very fun to do.
