Suggestion, Rant, Discussion: Spirit Shards

Sounds like a good idea. Plus non-HoT accounts don’t have masteries and thus their XP beyond 80 is all wasted.

Yeah I’ve noticed that on my alt account. Very annoying – not sure why they did this.

When will you stop this obnoxious crap. Stop making separate rules for armor. You either stick with revealing for both or covered for both.

This is getting really tiresome. I expect this out of some Korean grindfest.

Not you, a western company.

Really have nothing better to complain about eh? Here’s an idea. If you don’t like skimy armor don’t use it. Simple.

Suggestion, Rant, Discussion: Spirit Shards

Before masteries when you’d level up after 80 you’d get an extra skill point (which were later turned into spirit shards). I’m very tired right now so I’ll keep this very short and to the point and see what you all think about this.

Getting spirit shards right now is a matter of grinding and RNG and it’s complete nonsense when it doesn’t have to be.

My suggestion is to allow us to gain spirit shards at level-ups beyond 80 once again. This can be done in two different ways. Once all masteries are unlocked, rather than getting no EXP you can go back to earning levels (and thus earning spirit shards) as you would have before the mastery system.

I also suggest that at any time you can disable masteries while leveling them up in order to enable the above scenario.

Legendary weapons

So let me get this straight – you can afford new gem store updates every week and pump out a new weapon set, outfit and glider every 4 weeks but you can’t afford to make actual content? Content that was a main selling point of the expansion?

Mike I’ve been with you guys since Guild Wars 1 beta but honestly I am done. You guys have had too many chances and you are losing loyal long time fans. I hope it’s worth the gem sales though.

Funny how your cash shop in GW1 was actually fair and not gouging but GW2 is now actively being affected by the imbalance of cash shop vs in-game content and you will lose loyal players and fans in droves over stuff like this.

Again – I really hope you think it’s worth it. But hey, it’s cool, looking forward to the next black lion weapon set or outfit package. I’m sure that’s better for the game’s playerbase than actual content or long-term goals, right?

Not sure what else to say.

Instead of being able to buy the new nodes

It’s just horse how they sold all the original, crappy nodes for 10$ a piece and then make the actual desirable nodes RNG bullkitten. So now if I ever want to complete the home instance I have to pay the price of a legendary to do so? That rings acceptable to you, Krall?

I would saying that being able to directly buy high-end materials (that otherwise would require you to go to a high-level zone with strong mobs guarding them) would be a much bigger issue than the current situation.

The low-level nodes are available more or less at the start, and thus being able to add them to the home instances doesn’t really change anything at all.

I have also never seen a legendary go for under 1000g. You should also keep in mind that they are still rather new and as such they will drop in price, just like the first batch that were released the same way.

I suppose you’re right and I’m probably just mad because of what I mentioned in my previous comment.

Maybe I’m a different player but these nodes do not make or break the game. They are convenience. Is it going to hamper your gameplay by not having these nodes?

No and that’s not why I’m upset. I bought the originals (800 gems a pop) because I thought it’s cool to have things actually inside my home instance. Had I known they’d pull this bull on future node releases I wouldn’t have bothered in the first place.

So now instead of having just an empty home instance I’ll have an incomplete one. And that is extremely frustrating considering I spent over 3000 gems for the original nodes they sold.

We have to deal with this.

I’m so glad I wasn’t able to just buy these and instead have to rely on (what I assume is) a less than 1% chance to get these out of an RNG box.

I’m glad I paid a couple thousand gems for the cloth stand and all of the basic nodes for my home instance only to be met with an RNG paywall for the rest of them, pretty much ensuring that I’ll never have a full collection in the home instance.

Classy move. Awesome stuff.

Honestly if they were the exact same as GW1 I would be happy.

My hopes:
-Give us multiple layouts to choose from like GW1
-Allow us to upgrade it to include more vendors, guild/personal storage, etc.
-Allow us to bring guests into it
-Maybe have gathering nodes that reset daily?
-Allow us to explore it and make it an actual guild hall. Something large and wondrous.

And finally, think of the small guilds.. Before you go adding 100k+ influence costs or 1k+ gold costs, remember not every guild has hundreds of people.

Thanks for your time and I’m glad to see guild halls finally being discussed!

As I recall the main changes were some quests and instances regarding the Mad King’s son, the Bloody Prince, hence the title. The previous content (labyrinth, jumping puzzle, PvP game) were still there and pretty much the same. So, I have no reason to think previous rewards will not become available again.

Well the original skins were from the “Halloween lock boxes” that required keys. That’s why I ask about them.

At the moment I’m still a little bit shocked. I cannot believe you actually did this fuc*ing kitten you dumb fuc*ing c*nt Anet. I simply do not want to run around for several levels with a crippled character. I really, really liked the freedom you had with your character in the past. I don’t think I want to play any new character anytime soon. And only future (and you, A-net) will tell, if I really want to continue to play GW2 under this circumstances!

You, me, and several others brother…

This is clearly an improvement. Obviously characters with so much freedom and playstyle diversity low leveled characters had was too overwhelming and confusing for new players to understand.

That way we wont have 15 threads about the same thing, and can keep it in one spot that is easier for the devs to see and reference. Thanks!

(Now just to get a moderator to merge them )

Easier for the devs to wait until it gets buried, you mean.

RIP Cantha thread.
RIP Suggestion forum.

iirc the cantha thread never really died, and was active again recently…
I was not really a part of the suggestion forums, so i can’t comment on that.

But the trait thread is still going strong, as well as most other feedback threads that were merged. Yes the devs read them but dont always respond. If we are trying to get our opinions heard, having 37 threads about the same thing popping up, isnt going to help, as it means more time to try to monitor everything.

Because having 1 massive thread is doing wonders for the trait system right?

So do they test these patches before implementing them?

It’s been painfully obvious for over a year that Anet has no quality control testers. Most of these bugs were found within minutes of the patch going live. I feel bad for the Chinese players who’ve had the same patch and probably the same bugs still (since, you know, it was a copy paste).

On topic – to those talking about the bugs and and QA – just let me remind you that they promised we’d never see overflow from the Chinese client. Obviously a lie since we have the copy/paste from the CHINESE CLIENT now. With the same bugs that still probably plague the CN version.

You can do almsot ALL of that stuff without ever leaving your home city, FYI. They TEACH you if you havent’ already known of those functions (You knwo for NEW people). If you already know how to do it, jsut do it. There are only a few things you can’t do.

You can do at level 1:
Dodge
Dye Armor
Harvest Materials (go into the city when you get outta the first story and buy some form a crafting master)
Craft Items (just talk to the guy like before and learn the discipline)
You can Visit Vistas AND PoIs you just aren’t directed to them.
WvW or PvP (Use Hot Keys to open the panels or go to LA from Home City to access the Asura Gates)
Can Use Wardrobe just open it up
Can use Minis
Can Access your Bank/Guild Bank
Can Access the Guild Panel Hit G
Can do Jumping Puzzles (I did Morgans Spiral at level 3 and the secret troll one at level 2 just to see)
Can Map Complete and get rewards for it.

The Combat stuff is true and locked behind a leveling curve that is significantly increased (It only took me 30 minutes to get to level 10 where all my weapon skills for ALL weapons were unlocked)

At level 13 about 45 min into a new character I unlocked my first Utility skill and as such unlocked Skill Point Challenges. Also, you can use Knowledge Scrolls at any level to learn new healing skills if you don’t like the first one.

EDIT: you also unlock the 1-10 Personal Story at ten and can do the whole arc at once. I did that at level 13 and it got me to level 17 and have a LOT of nice goodies and included the Black Lion Key.

Nah, dont spoil the fun of watching these supposed “vets” and “pros” embarass themselves like OP.

You’re hilarious, bub. I’m sitting here looking at a new account now and they seem to have fixed some of the bugs for accounts who had max level characters already, but everything I mentioned in OP still stands for new accounts.

Nice flame bait.

Personally, I would have also said they are pulling a Star Wars Galaxies. There is a great link to the death of that game here…

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setview/features/loadFeature/714/gameID/6

Some great quotes from that article. Do they seem familiar to GW2?

“The problem is summed up nicely: Antagonizing your existing playerbase in the hopes of attracting a mythical “audience who doesn’t play, but will once we make these changes” almost never works. The “silent majority” never materializes, and your current base is alienated due to changes that they did not want.”

“While marketing campaigns no doubt contribute some assistance, true marketing comes from word of mouth. The veterans of a game are the ones who bring their friends and family to these games, and in turn they recruit more. You need to retain veterans in order to get them to bring in new customers. The veterans are also those who help out the new players to achieve veteran status themselves. We gamers all have our stories of starting an MMO, being completely lost and clueless, until a veteran came along and provided their insight and wisdom on how to progress in the game. A marketing campaign cannot achieve this, no matter how slick. With substantially fewer veterans to help out new players, their chances of sticking around are reduced, and fewer subscriptions are retained.”

I can easily picture a bunch of suits, who have never played a video game in their life, sitting around a large office table trying to come up with idea’s on how to boost sales. And if you’re not a Yes Man, you loose your job.

We’re already riding the death spiral.

Well said. That’s exactly what’s going on here.

this will definitely make its way here sooner than later (within a year). the game is being set up to go to a true F2P model. the consolidation of server resources and extreme systems lvl-gating is already here. all we need now is the cash shop to include gem-gated content, gem-bought permanent stat enhancements (thing uber sigils that have a chance to fail at crafting…..unless you buy the item that increases success rate).

this is on the way.

I wish I could disagree with you.

If they include more Chinese release elements like the VIP system then it’ll be over right then and there.

They promised they wouldn’t integrate the Chinese restrictions into the NA and EU versions. Instead they clearly lied.

The moment I see a “VIP” announcement I am uninstalling this game. I’m already on the verge of just giving up with what ArenaNet has become and I can’t stand seeing it go down the tube any longer.

And yes they clearly lied, that seems to be the recurring trend here lately. They said they’d keep the versions separate but aside from a few things this is literally a port of the Chinese systems into our game.

The kicker? Even the Chinese players hate these systems and wanted them gone. It’s still there, and it will remain here as well I fear.

Edit: ArenaNet, you can’t seriously think the changes to the leveling system were good, can you? The players in China hated it – why did you force it on us after saying you’d keep the Western and Chinese versions of the game seperate?

Dyes are too confusing. We can dye our armor at character creation but until level 6, we shouldn’t be able to do any more of that.

Dodging is too challenging for new players to pick up.

So are weapon skills.
Skill points.
Vistas.
Gathering.
The wardrobe system.
Minipets.
Guilds.
PvP.
Underwater combat.
Downed state.
Idle animations.
F1 and other abilities.
Weapon swapping.
Elite skills

I’m so glad that new players and experienced players alike (on alts) don’t have to experience these confusing features until later levels without any introduction whatsoever. I’m also ecstatic that the new GPS system shows us where to go.

I put myself into the mindset of a new player and was able to successfully take my Charr straight from Black Citadel to Diessa Plateau. After that I was directed to Wayfarer Foothills. It was a tough journey but the game told me that’s where I should be heading at level 2.

After an hour of dying and running I finally got to Wayfarer Foothills. What an awesome area! I still died a lot because I didn’t have many weapon skills but that must be part of the challenge new players must overcome.

What a relief when my GPS told me to go to Frostgorge Sound next! That area sounds AWESOME! That area was much harder than the previous and even yellow mobs were destroying me in a single hit, but I think I just need to learn the game a bit more and must not be good at it yet.

I left the new player mindset and set off to make a new character. Now after having multiple level 80s, Dungeon Master, Fractal level 40, and full ascended gear, I’m glad to say that I am forced to undergo those “features” on new characters that I make – which is super convenient because I might not know how to dodge on that particular character yet, or use my HoM armor or other cool features that plague higher levels.

I can’t believe any of this crap actually got past QA. These forums and Reddit are lighting up right now over how terrible these “features” are. Want to talk to a class trainer in Queensdale as a level 80? Too bad. Learn to play.

…Sarcasm over. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad. Please tell me these “features” from the Chinese release (which even the Chinese players hated by the way) are on their way out. We didn’t ask for this and we don’t want it. This is MUCH MORE CONFUSING AND OVERWHELMING for the GW2 playerbase (which as Anet thinks is a bunch of window lickers).

But hey, at least we can level some characters until November 4th hits.

Right guys?

Bows have never been viable for condition builds and now rifles aren’t either. The new ability is once again something that only zerker and power builds would look for…

Why are you devs so set on destroying condition builds?

No gathering, dodging, trading posts, downed state, conditions, and much more for new players. All this feature pack did is make previously available things level-locked. Lol

Yep, seems like Anet is going in the right direction…. /s

I agree. Let me hide these stupid things so I don’t need to see them. They are useless to me unless I am in WvW or doing guild missions. I don’t need to see 200 commanders running around Queensdale or Southsun Cove.
