Temp content is a great test for what works and what doesn’t. Those things can be applied to the core game.
That’s great and all except all of the great new content they’ve added in the last couple of months has been temporary. I’m all for adding new great things and testing the waters, but if nothing ever comes from it, what’s the point?
SAB, this new dungeon, the new weapon skins. All gone after a week and a half from now. Why? That is so counter productive and they just go “here’s this awesome stuff but yeah it’s gone in 2 weeks”.
People are leaving the game in droves because of everything only being available from Black Lion chests and all of the content being removed after a week.
This temporary stuff and stuff only available from gambling doesn’t create compelling gameplay or interest in the game – quite the opposite.
I was sympathetic with you, until you said people are leaving the game in droves. Don’t make up stuff to try to prove a point, because it doesn’t work. The traffic today is mad busy. That doesn’t equate to people leaving the game in droves.
If you have no evidence to back up a statement, why make the statement.
I do have evidence. Around 50 people I know, family and friends, have quit and gone to other games. And I’m not the only one who knows so many people are leaving the game. And yeah people may come back for events but I was in Vent tonight with people who once they did the dungeon said “Welp, seeya when the new update comes around.”

Lol really Darkace.. you must be a fanboy if you do not see the amount of money Anet brings in off the gem store. So they throw you a bone with the gauntlets and maybe a slime chance at a back piece… That’s to just keep you quite. MAYBE if you take a look at all the CRAP that still needs fixed you would wounder where the hell your money is going from the gem store.. guess where.. BACK into the gem store.. and for the record if you don’t see that then no one can help you.
I’ll say it again for you, TheZeus…some of you people need to grow up.
So because people don’t share your point of view they need to grow up. Ironic.

I’ve seen quite a few dumb people post on this forum. Mkalafut is like, top 10 level dumb.
Very well thought out post. Funny how voicing my concerns (being a day 1 vet of GW1) gets me trolled so hard. And makes me somehow dumb.
But looking through your messages in your profile I’m not surprised you’d come here to say nothing constructive.
Day 1 GW1 vet coming through guys!
And there it is again. yawn. Anyway, pointing out that I’ve played Gw1 since launch is just to show where my basis is and where my pov comes from as to how GW2 is being handled. Not to flex an kitten.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
The boss fights had some nice design wherein patterns slowly ramped up and started combining. In terms of evasive gameplay certainly a big step up.
But those were the two bosses, the rest dragged a bit I’d say. Just filler material in between. A lot of action games get criticized when they have endless thrashmob encounters in successive arena battles. (DMC says hello).
End chest rewards being linked to RNG again, not much to say what hasn’t been said a million times. Except maybe GW2 is starting to be a bit all over the place. The Living Story team advancing bosses in dungeons, the dungeon teams starting to create new teamplay in fractals, the SAB being a totally different creature, all three together having entirely different reward schemes depending on the day of the week they were released. It looks like everything is up for being tossed against the wall to see what sticks.
Agreed. My guildies all say the same thing. None of us think Anet knows what they want GW2 to be. It’s all over the place.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I was just thinking about this, and you know, I hardly ever run a dungeon WITH a warrior. Almost never. Oh, ocassionally here and there, but they’re the real exception to the rule. And then I thought about it….
Why not make dungeon groups and exclude warriors from them. Just post something on gw2lfg.com that looks like this.
Want to run SE Path 1…warriors need not apply!
First it would be funny to see how they like it, particularly if lots of people start doing it, but more, it would give everyone else a chance to get in their dungeon runs, without kowtowing to the efficiency slaves.
I think it’s a good move.
My main is a warrior.
I don’t play a berserker warrior (Full Soldier set). I don’t play a full dps build (0/0/25/30/15). I don’t ever use GS (Hammer/Axe+Shield).
And I wouldn’t want to group with you.
Amen to that. I’m a dual sword warrior with rifle off-set. Condition damage build. I stomp face and never use a GS and it’s fun as hell to play.
12 Characters (1 being a low level farmer for certain items), 3 of them are warriors, 2 of them are 80. I don’t CoF 1 farm and I don’t use a GS in PvP.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I already see people running around with 3-5 legendaries. They can easily be bought from 3rd party websites, in-game with gold (xfer gems to gold or just buy gold). It’s not hard if you have deep pockets IRL. But what do I know, I have 0 of em.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Yea I hear u man…. I got twilight myself and was kind of disapointed to with no legendary badge… does all other legendary weapond do the same thing or just sunrise and twilight?
Just these two.
I’m not sure why… I would think it’s because combining the two will give you a third legendary : Eternity, for which the achievement isnt broken. If that’s the reason, it’s not fair.
I think it’s bugged. Either way, it’s just another reason why I’m not getting either of those as my first legendary. Everyone and their mom has one and the badge is bugged. No point IMO.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Hate speech is just verbal abuse, no need to have a specific category for it.
This. It’s basically a catch all. I still want to make sure Anet gets my reports so I always screenshot / take video of things that need to be reported, bots, offensive names, offensive speech etc. and just send it to them directly.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
So you want a wow style never ending gear grind?
Uhhh, what? That’s not what he said at all. We could definitely use some new gear stats as well as some new appearances.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Its funny huh?? How things have changed so much from the “promises” they made during the development cycle in all their videos.
This has to be one of the grindiest MMO’s I have played in a long time…its been promoted to “Eastern (I don’t want to offend anyone with the other word) MMO” in my opinion…
Agreed. I also find it funny how legendaries can be bought and sold on the trading post.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Best thing to do is screenshot it and send it to Anet. Their automated support options in game aren’t great atm.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
We just finished up an event that gave out tons of free and stylish weapon skins….
Care to elaborate and be a bit more specific?
Did you miss out on Super Adventure Box? The month long event that basically gave out skins hand over foot? You could spend one day doing SAB runs for a skin, with a chance to get a tradable version of the same skin in the chests. The tradable skins are worth like 20-60 gold right now.
Yeah I ended the month with 49 bubble baulbes left over. Kinda upset about that, but I did manage to get every skin I wanted as well as some I’ll be selling later. That’s not what this thread is about though.

“People are leaving the game in droves because of everything only being available from Black Lion chests and all of the content being removed after a week.”
There are obviously other reasons but I can tell you straight up a ton of my friends quit and went back to other games because of the money grubbing and not having enough to do in this game.
I can understand that, but not everyone feels either way. People will stay/leave for different reasons. The game as a whole is still great and has time to improve. For those who can’t wait, you already own the game, its not going anywhere. I know I will personally be playing FFXIV (drools and the graphics and im an ff fan ^^;), some others like TESO, Destiny, and plenty of others coming. I believe a lot of the trouble with the game is based on the players attitudes towards it and the problem with rushing through the game. So taking a break won’t hurt anything especially not your wallet, and if you want to come back it is still here. But I don’t think all the doom and gloom people hang over GW2 is deserved, I just see peoples playstyles being a huge factor when it comes to issues about the game. And playstyles is not something you can design to fit everyone. But that is why there is other MMO’s out there ^^
I agree 100% with your entire post and I’m not saying I’m threatening to quit or anything because I’m not. I’m just disappointed seeing where Anet is going as a company and focusing more on making a few bucks on the gem store than producing compelling, lasting content for us.
I know people hate when I say “wait and see what happens”, but now that this arc of story has come to an end perhaps we will see more core focus. And using the information gathered from temp content they can make the core better. Thats my thoughts anyway.
I hear ya. I’m thinking the same thing and really hoping for something like that to happen. Just for me it seems that they’re doing everything they were so against in their manifesto and early stages of development.
It’s all about the cash shop, it’s all about being lucky. Player skill or time invested has nothing to do with what you can earn in this game. I use the term “earn” lightly because you can just buy legendaries anyway.
Having a fused weapon should mean you participated in the living story event. Having things event-related shouldn’t be about cash shops and RNG. You should be rewarded for participating in events, not winning the lottery.
But remember nothing on the cash shop is necessary. Players only hold it to such a high level solely because “fashion” and “prestige” is valued above everything else to (players), but the same isn’t true for devs. Yes they profit from the shop, but it has little to nothing to do with the core of the game. Nothing gives you functional advantage over players in game to anywhere near the point of being P2W.
Items in game are only worth the price we put on them, things in game only hold ANY value to those who attach value to them.
They are not necessary no. But why keep awesome event related items limited to RNG lottery boxes that you need to pay for? Why not make it something like War in Kryta or just for completing the event getting a token or something?
In GW1 (you know, that game that funded GW2 development), you didn’t need to dump money into the game for cool items. There were no mini pets, item skins, or RNG to speak of in the GW1 cash shop. Event items were awarded from time and effort invested into playing the actual event, not spending money or gold on the lottery boxes and getting lucky.
That’s the point I’m trying to make here – vanity items or not, that’s not ok.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Would it be so bad to allow more players to see these weapon skins rather than wasting 100s of dollars or more on keys and never seeing one?
Would it be bad? No. Would it be less profitable? That’s the question that matter.
Can we stop with the communist attitude in a F2P game already ? Ofc Anet wants profit, geniuses. You get to play the game everyday 24/7 if you want to for free, and you can take a break and not have your CC charged every month.
It’s purely cosmetic, you dont NEED it to play the game.I take my statement back if you prove you get up and go to work every morning to be paid in candies -if at all- and actually make a living out of it.
Gosh… Kids nowadays want everything for nothing.I will agree with 1 thing : the random chance to get them is not cool. But you still dont need it to play.
Take it down a notch nobody wants to see you go into a rage induced coma there, guy. And I’m not even gonna waste time responding to you since apparently I’m a child and a communist.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Any time anyone brings up a concern it’s always people flaming, trolling, and saying “stop complaining”. The forums are for discussion if you have nothing constructive to add to a certain discussion don’t even post.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
And hey if you get lucky enough you can get a mini or a jetpack skin that will instantly make you rich. Isn’t RNG amazing? Apparently GW2 isn’t about fun – it’s about being able to monopolize on events as much as you can.

That is so counter productive and they just go “here’s this awesome stuff but yeah it’s gone in 2 weeks”.
It’s very counter-productive to play a video game when I could be doing something like teaching myself physics, or complex mathematics, or how to fix cars . . . I mean, when you get right down to it, all this entertainment doesn’t produce anything.
But that doesn’t mean it’s worthless, or useless.
Again, it’s gone in two weeks. Not “gone forever”. The SAB in particular is said to have a decent chance of coming back when the team which worked on it feels it’s time to bring it back. (It’s hinted at having different skins, and a World 2, when it does…)
And it’s not like this sort of thing is new to MMO players. “GM run events” have been a part of things ever since the MUD days, and they were usually one-time things. The one which looms quite large in my memory would be “Bloody Kithicor” on EverQuest. (Also a contender for worst zone revamp ever.)
Teach yourself physics or mathematics? What the hell does that have to do with what I’ve been talking about. If you’re just gonna play that game why even reply? That does nothing for this discussion.

I find these topics very interesting. It would be great if you could provide some official links to ArenaNet employees.
It’d likewise be great if we knew for a fact the opposite side was 100% factual that “almost everyone hates this stuff” or “the game is dying” or half a dozen other topics. I mean, baseless assertions are made on both sides.
It’s also hard to gauge how many people are happy or unhappy because every negative post gets removed for “complaining”.

Yeah but you can’t tell me with all the crap in the gem store that they aren’t swimming in money. I’m a game dev myself I know how expensive games are to create and maintain, but seriously. If they made 1 thing available and made more FUN for the gamers and more stuff to do and work towards, that should be a priority to tricking people into playing the lottery with weapon skins that can easily be implemented into a dungeon token system.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Why does the dungeon need to be temporary?
Why are the Fused Weapons only from the BLC?
Why can’t they make this (and add to it) a permanent dungeon with tokens much like the others and add the fused weapons as dungeon rewards to spend tokens on…?
Would it be so bad to allow more players to see these weapon skins rather than wasting 100s of dollars or more on keys and never seeing one? The dungeon on its own was awesome. Imagine it being its own explorable.. New content is what’s going to keep this game going, not temporary content and then the same old stuff afterwards.
What are your thoughts on this?

Remember in GW1 when they’d balance skills for PvE and PvP separately and nerfs / buffs in PvP wouldn’t affect PvE and vise-versa? The good old days.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Went to go mine a rich copper vein the other day and saw a guy appear, mine the node (only 3x, not the full 9-10 that a rich provides) and then disappear and reappear at the node directly east of it. Same thing. Appeared, mined 3x, then disappeared again.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Yeah it is awesome. Really glad that it’s gonna be gone soon because cool, permanent content is too mainstream apparently.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Something to be remembered. GW1 was NOT an MMO. It did not have open world. There is going to be a learning curve on AN’s part, with dealing with more players in one area at one time. They have sever load and population load issues, etc already. In my opinion if they let these events run, they would have server issues, plus the game loses the “Live” feel. Things happen in a linear fashion. To keep things flowing they must begin and end. It’s no fun to miss them, but it simply must be as it is.
I still play GW1 more than I play GW2 these days because of the way they are treating GW2. People don’t want nickel and diming from the gem store. They want stuff to do and earn things.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Personally, I really like one-time skins. They are just cosmetic and it’s a good way to show prestige for vets of the game in a few years.
I definitely agree with this. Early adopters should get some sort of bonus, and stat-less skins are perfect. No one is freaking out because they can’t get Halloween skins, same will happen with these, except these are much more common. Having limited series’ within the game gives players more opportunity for unique looks. And that’s kind of a big thing in this game where most rewards are visual.
Because buying skins from the TP shows prestige somehow? FYI the Chainsaw Greatsword is now almost 300g at the time of this posting and it only seems to be going up. That’s not cool especially considering these items are bound to characters after use (As opposed to GW1 where weapons can be endlessly traded around – which was a much better system).
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Thanks for pointing this out. Yes, the HoM site is not working correctly at the moment. In the meantime, you may try the extended HoM.
Hey thanks a lot. Does Anet know that the site is doing this and is there an ETA to when it’ll be fixed? I used the search before I posted this and found nothing.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Hey there. Recently I’ve offered my assistance to several people for Hall of Monument help in GW1. The best way I’ve found to do this and sort of make a list of the easiest things to get and in what order is by checking their HoM page and going from there.
Only problem is, when I type in a character name in the HoM calc, this shows up:

I tried this on Chrome, Firefox (default browser), and IE9 on two different computers. I also tried several character names – all of this shows up. All of my browsers are up to date and I’ve tried disabling AdBlock Plus to see if that solves the problem and it doesn’t.
Any ideas on how to fix this? It never used to do this but for some reason lately it’s doing this and I have no idea how to fix it.
Edit: I guess the image code doesn’t work??

My guild does this kinda stuff all the time. We have several GWAMM members and tons of 50/50 members that often still play GW1 – myself included. Feel free to hit me up in-game or send me a message here if ever you need assistance, advice, or even see if I have anything that may be of use to you. I was in a Speed Clear alliance so I did dungeons nearly every hour of the day as well as AFK farming for hero armor.
I have a few characters made day 1 on the game so I have the latest bday presents and such so feel free to contact me directly or head to my guild’s website in the link in my signature. We have a thread dedicated to GW1 and HoM stuff check regularly.
I frequently give money, ectos, minipets, and other stuff away because I actually farmed a mini Polar Bear in Wintersday 2011 so I was able to get myself, my brother and my gf 30+ / 50 and most of the GWAMM titles.
Don’t be shy! :-) Guild is recruiting too if you’re ever interested in a guild that does GW1, GW2 and other games as well. Good luck to everyone with their HoM goals!

We must save the Princess! (she’s a Princess, right? lol).
In the mean time you can kind of keeps tabs on her via Twitter:
Hahaha! Awesome! Well I suppose it’ll have to do Just hope everyone over at Anet knows that most of the people love the SAB and are looking forward to more. I’m sure we’re having as much fun playing it as you had building it. So please don’t forget about this!
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
The SAB is listed on http://guildwars2.com as being available from April 1st to 30th.
World 2 has not been built yet, and won’t be started for another little while. But not a long while.
World 2 won’t be available within the next month
Not this month. At an unspecified time. Certainly not in the next month.
… and may return before next April.
I certainly hope so. All signs currently point to yes. But of course, no promises.
Yeah that’s the thread I saw. So it’s 100% not going to be permanent. That’s a shame. It “may” return before next April. Oh well, so long as we can see it again in the future I’ll be happy. There is so much potential with this thing it’d be a definite shame if they didn’t continue with it. I mean just look at all the map we haven’t discovered in there yet! We must save the Princess! (she’s a Princess, right? lol).
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Some people have said that the SAB will be removed April 30th. I’ve also seen people say that there will be no new content added to it during April and that it will not be staying in the game while it’s updated (if it’s ever updated). Then finally I see a whole thread dedicated to the idea of it remaining permanent and updated every now and then.
Is there any official response as to what is happening to SAB? I’d love to see it remain in the game and updated every couple of months or so. I recall a Dev saying that World 2 isn’t even started yet so it seems to me that they’ll be removing it after April is done – but I’d love to know for sure if anyone does in fact know if it’ll be removed or staying.
I do really love this and if any Anet member stumbles on this thread, I definitely think it was a successful experiment and my entire guild absolutely loves this event so very great job! We’ll all be sad to see it go.

Surprised this thread doesn’t have more attention. I 100% support this. I’d even say leave Moto and the weapons available year around. Having it as just another dungeon to be ran all year for weapons and such? Count me in.
No event so far in GW2 has given me so much joy and nothing about it being in the game year round would really detract from the game so why not?
You have my support on this and I do hope Anet decides to leave it in and just build on it every April or something.

I agree. This event had me so excited when I saw it. The pixel animation & graphics are done so well, the 8 bit music is great too. Just everything about it is amazing and I kind of don’t want it to go away lol

We are also accomidating to smaller guilds that lack the means to do guild missions. We have 2 guilds right now that we do missions with on a weekly basis and we’re more than happy to do this so if your guild is struggling with guild missions don’t hesitate to whisper us and find out about what we can do for you!

Oh I hope this isn’t April Fools… these are some of the coolest skins I’ve seen! Plus the achievements look awesome.
I know tell me about it.. lol it’d be quite the April Fools joke, but I think more people would be upset than be “loling” about it.

^ Don’t give it away!!! At least put that in a spoiler tag, geez…
I removed it ^^; As soon as I posted it I was like wait a sec… But I mean, are those weapons only available to be acquired for 1 day only? That would kinda suck. Also I notice they’re in PvP too. Hopefully, again, not for just 1 day.

I bet it’s related to April 1st yeah. The super weapons on the other hand you see in the pvp-locker are for the new super JP in rata sum that is not up yet.
Yeah I am actually standing in front of that right now. Do we know anything about those yet or how to acquire them? They are amazing!

What is it, and how do I get one?

(apparently image code isn’t working?)
Also I noticed the whole 8-bit box dude in Rata Sum. Word on the street this is all related to April 1st? Anyone have any more info on this or know what direction to point me in?

its not a weapon skin, its a actual weapon. They are releasing more skins. These are separate entirely, following a broken sword theme
Ah gotcha. Thanks.
