Rurik was just an idiot. Leeroy with less brains basically. I laughed when the avalanche hit him. There was little build up for him, so it was difficult to sympathise as well.

Logan was likable in the Edge of Destiny book. I wouldn’t say he was cool, but he wasn’t whiney, pathetic and annoying. The author at least tried to make him feel like a hero. The dialogue the voice actor was given just wasn’t strong enough to make him heroic.

Trahearne. Well I think he overshadows the part too much. If he was a bit part charcter I doubt the same hatred would apply. But the fact is, you feel like it is his story and you are playing as his follower. If it was you as the Pact General and him advsing you, probably people would have liked him more.

Never had an issue with Kormir

You pretty much summed it up for me. I especially loved your synapses of Trahearne. As soon as he was introduced he basically took over and it DID in fact seem like you were a follower in his story rather than him being a supportive role in yours.

“GW 2 takes everything you love about GW 1.”
Where? Maybe I missed it.
/thread

Yeah I remember hearing that and thinking “Oh my God! insert fanboying here
Then when I got the game, it was very apparent from the get-go that it was going to be nothing like GW1. Games change, they need to change, but all in all I still prefer GW1 to GW2. Refer to my last post though because I still love GW2 as well, it just could have been made so much better if it stuck to its GW1 roots (gameplay, build customization, cash shop, mob packs, etc etc).

I definitely agree. A LOT of what this game does is great, don’t get me wrong. But the hyped up large-scale events (Specifically The Shatterer) aren’t cracked up what they were made to look like. “This is one of our smaller dragon lieutenants that you’ll fight! He’s a pesky little weakling compared to Zhaitan or any other Elder Dragon!”

Right. People stand at his armpit and shoot at his foot for ~3 minutes. What an epic engagement. I understand the players learning about exploitative things like places to stand to minimize damage, effort, etc. isn’t Anet’s fault, but it’s still a problem.

And Zhaitan.. the boss we were hyped up to kill for 5 or so years, is seen only once in a story mode dungeon where he hangs on to a tower for 5 minutes while you spam 1 key. Not only that, he's certainly not as large as Collin and the rest of them said he was gonna be.

Oh well, what can you do right? Aliens: Colonial Marines was supposed to be an amazing shooter and look what hype did to that game once it was released. GW2 as far as I’m concerned is a great game, adding a LOT to the genre and making a lot of things more convenient than most MMOS as well as providing great gameplay options. But yes, some of the hyped stuff wasn’t as great as they made it out to be.

Man you mentioned the dual healer packs outside of Sorrow’s Furnace and just took me back a few years. Yeah I miss the multi-profession mob packs from GW1. Doubt we’ll ever see them in GW2, unfortunately.

It seems to be more typical MMO fashion where there’s a random mob every few feet and all the mobs in the area are the same thing.

The RNG chests/lock boxes are in every free to play mmo under the sun now, better get used to it. Do I like it? Hell no. I refuse to buy them even though I’ll never get the cool looking items. If there is one thing I really despise about this game it is the RNG.

Yes they’re in every free game. But the difference is those other games likely have new content added to them in addition to the RNG boxes. All we get from month to month in terms of new weapon or armor skins is from the RNG cash boxes. That’s a problem.

anet have no other way to generate income beside box sales and cashshop, and most people who wanted the game already bought it.

Last time I’m going to bring this up, then I’ll leave you guys to acknowledge or ignore it to your heart’s content.

In Guild Wars, players lined up to purchase items from the cash shop. Because the items weren’t hidden behind RNGs chest, the players got exactly the items they wanted. And ArenaNet got the money they needed. It was a win/win. It was both customer friendly and profitable at once. This method may be profitable, but only a fool would argue it’s customer friendly.

I’ve been saying the same thing to people since they started with this RNG bullkitten. In GW1 I was happy to drop money on the latest addition to the cash shop. Why? Because I knew what I was buying, and additions happened every few months – not weeks.

I will not pay another cent to Anet until this stops, which is unfortunate because I really love Guild Wars and loved ArenaNet in Guild Wars 1 times.

Missing the point. It’s not that they’re adding things to the cash shop. Myself included, TONS of people love to support games they enjoy playing and have no problem investing real cash into game items. The problem is that it’s all behind the gimmick of the lottery. Which is bullkitten.

You should be there defending me during beta when I told people how the cashshop will turn out to be.

Everyone bash me and now people act surprise the cashshop function the way it is now.

Well I’m right there with you. I defended this game up and down all day to nay-sayers because I was confident that the people who did GW1 could do no wrong. Apparently I was greatly mistaken.

Firstly I don’t buy anything, only things I’ve “bought” are trading gold for gems. Second there is no problem, only what you make of one yourself. Third, Guild wars 1 was respectively a completely different game, why does everyone expect GW2 to be a complete remake of the first? Where would be the originality in that and how do you expect them to make as much money as they have creating a whole new game, using exactly the same model as a game that already exists? Last I checked, GW1 is still running and you can still go play it if you so wish.

Wow so you must have a lot of gold then. To even get enough gems to purchase 10 of the new boxes (you’d only buy 10 because of the discounted price) you’d be spending around 50g give or take. Wish I had that kinda cash to throw away on RNG boxes….

…On second thought…

50g isn’t that much, personally though I’m not too fussed about skins because that’s all they are. They’re great novelty items but they are definitely not needed and I’m happy with the way my character looks. If I have 1 thing to complain about it’s that the skins aren’t available forever, but to be honest, they can do what they like. It definitely seems to be working for them, so who can blame them.

You can slate their way of doing things because that’s the nature of any MMO, but really it wont change anything, never has. Common sense would dictate that it’s pointless crying over something such as this, but obviously people don’t learn. It amazes me that every single mmo community has people like this, but then just shows how spoilt people have become when it comes to gaming.

You claim to be the all-knowing prophet of gaming with a master’s degree in MMO community knowledge, yet you condemn people for speaking their mind about obvious, unnecessary cash grabs in lieu of actual content.

Honestly, at this point, I’m really not surprised.

A.Net seems to be almost purposefully dragging their feet when it comes to the implementation of equal access to equipment across formats. WvW players are still waiting for something to use their badges on, and for the longest time only had access to one set of armor (P/v/t). The fact that some combinations of stats are still plain missing doesn’t help either…

Implementing a few extra pieces of gear and some badge merchants (which I would think is really just a matter of copy/paste once you figure out the cost of items) should have never taken this long.

- Mana

But you’re missing a very important thing: not dragging their feet on important issues that they’ve been “aware of” for months would take time away from designing neat new things to stuff into the lottery boxes in the gem store.

Yes this whole RNG situation is getting old. Each patch its the same story : minimal content added as reward for in-game activities – maximizing the grind of said activities to get the meager reward, and lots of cool stuff (i.e the “reward content” that most MMOs add as goals for doing their new game activities or increasing interest in underutilized ones) just crapped onto the store. And not directly obtainable but walled behind gambling mechanics. Don’t get me started on the “limited time” bullkitten. ANET is skating on some thin ice here.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Not sure how much more of this I’m going to allow myself to watch before I just go to another game. Limited time only stuff is fine by me. Generally if something is around a limited time I’m all about that and do nothing but that until I get the end reward. But in GW2 it’s not just limited time. It’s limited time and only available if you spend gems.

1200 gems? Thats 15 dollars >.> Is it just me or are the prices going up?

Everything about GW2 is turning into a cash grab…I am rapidly approaching the “uninstall” point.

Everything? really? Or do you mean random “skins” that do absolutely nothing game-wise? A chance to get one can be purchased with cash, gold or looted from mobs… I see no difference then any other MMO I have played other than they offer more ways to get them and they are not needed in the least.

You people crack me up IT’S A SKIN! lol

OHNOES RandomPlayer01 has a different looking sword and I wants it! /quit /forumwhine /threatenuninstall

It becomes a problem when nothing is added to the game except for cash shop RNG boxes. There have been no new skins added to the game with the exception of Fractal related items that were not somehow related to RNG AND the gem store.

So yes, when all new skins are added to the game and require you to spend gems to have a chance to getting one, it’s a problem. You know, in a game that basically revolves around skins as a form of progression since there’s no “versicle progression”.

Best part of all the complaints is that you can still get these items without spending a dime, via drops from mobs or exchanging your gold.

Yeah bro so funny. That’s the best part of all the complaints. Keep a tally of how many boxes you get from “rare drops” during the event. I’d love to follow up with you later and get a number.

My guess is a whopping 0 will be the tally count at the end. That is, if their BLC Key “rare drop” is any indication of their new boxes to “rarely drop” from mobs in Southsun.

It’s funny how they put certain stuff in new chests (which are way more expensive than BLC by the way) so that not only do they get more money and dish out less available stuff (Really? Karka shells and Passion fruit for 150 gems each?) they also don’t allow people to use BLC Keys they farm through personal story for free.

Getting tired of these posts.

Anet is a business. They’re in this business to make money and profit. Clearly this business model is WAY more profitable than just selling the skins directly on the store. Considering they don’t charge a monthly fee, they need to make money somehow.

The skins in no way affect how you play at all. They give no advantage. If you have that many issues with envy problems because you are unwilling to take the chance, maybe you should see a psychologist. Plus how you can get these crates from mobs in Southshore, which the karka are a popular farming spot ANYWAY thanks to shells and powerful bloods.

All I’m reading right now is putting an image in my head of a baby in a highchair, screaming and slamming their little fists on the tray. Get over it.

You say that as if Anet isn’t making a crap load of money off the game. They funded GW2 by nothing more than GW1 box sales and micro-transaction sales from GW1. They didn’t have RNG gamble boxes to milk wallets in that game.

The company needs to make money obviously – but maybe if they wanted to stop throwing money down the drain they shouldn’t keep investing valuable time, effort, and money into making temporary content every few weeks.

Umm first off you should definitely change your PW on both your account and email address. Because regardless of how super secret your password was, it isn’t anymore.

Second of all, you should google AVG Free or Avast Virus Protection Free and download 1 or the other. Download Malware Bytes as well because you may have a breach in security or something that lead to your acc info being stolen.

And yes, you should absolutely tell ArenaNet about it with a support ticket. They can see what IP logged on to your account and basically see all your account activity to try their best to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

Well said, this is a great thread full of many opinions, maybe we can get them to respond or lay off the RNG some

I think the only way they’ll lay off of the RNG is if they notice enough players laying off of the RNG. As long as it remains profitable (more so then just selling the items), I think it might stick around.

It will stick around. I’ve seen more than a few people on the forums (which is a vocal minority of the players) that say they dump anywhere from 100 – 4000 dollars in any given event on event items.

I fear this is going to stick around since people either like the RNG element and gladly gamble, or the ones who scream on the forums after spending 100s of dollars without getting anything are making the problem worse.

Back in the days of GW1 if you worked towards the end goal of a major event, you were rewarded for time and effort invested. Once the event was over you were SOL (As even annual rewards were usually different than the previous years).

Now it’s not even that. Now you can spend hours a day on an event, grinding endlessly for a “rare drop” or you can spend 100s of dollars for a CHANCE at a “rare drop” to show you worked in the event.

It’s funny too how they add newer chests for the items too. That way the people farming BLC Keys can’t use their keys they WORK FOR (by doing personal story) and be rewarded with the new items.

Stay classy, ArenaNet.

Though you gotta give Anet props for wising up and making separate chests for item rewards. Can’t farm personal story for those, I guess so hey they’re thinking!

Legitimate question for anyone at ArenaNet: why do you guys invest so much time and effort into making weapon assets that 99% of the players will never use?

Yeah. How dare Anet try to make a profit with their game in a completely optional cosmetic way?

Nice straw man. I never said anything about Anet making money but you can’t tell me that they aren’t making enough and NEED to make things both limited and RNG from BLC. That’s ridiculous. That means that no matter how hard anybody tries they may never see a reward simply because of horrible RNG luck.

So I was standing by a Rich Platinum vein in Fireheart Rise (finally got to it and was just sitting there watching Netflix after I mined it / in between CoF runs) and within 5 minutes of me climbing to this mountain top to get the vein, I noticed someone teleport to it, mine it, and teleport away after mining only 3×.

What baffled me is that there’s no report option for this sort of thing, and as far as I know, naming and shaming isn’t allowed on these forums (I have their usernames / character names). I also didn’t have my livestream going at the time because I was just sitting there watching Netflix so I have no video proof.

How does one go about reporting these teleporting node hackers which are becoming more and more common each day? I sat there for well over 2 hours catching up on a show and chatting with guildies and saw at least 20 people (that’s when I stopped counting) teleport to the node, each only mining 3x, then teleporting away.

In the time of me writing this up, 3 more came and went as well. Make that 4.

So I really would love to know how to report these scumbag botters, but there’s no in-game option to so… What should I do when I see these bots?

GW2 Birthdays!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TehPwnerer.7215

TehPwnerer.7215

I’ve been wondering about this since just before launch. But if I remember correctly no one knew there were going to be birthday gifts in GW1 until the first few people discovered them in their inventory.

My guess is the first we’ll know about it is on 25th August when people who pre-purchased and got the 3 day headstart log in and find gifts.

GW Birthdays could be shared with others less wealthy when you got a good gift that would help a less hands on get their HoM. I seriously doubt this will continue in GW2 Cashshopbound is there for a reason.

I love that you make it sound like everyone wanted to be altruistic and helpful and it’s only mean old Anet who force us to pay for things. If that was true my mini pet collecting would have been far less expensive.

Truth is when minis first appeared on the first birthday even the most common white ones were selling for at least 10k each, golds and greens were easily over 100k each. And those prices were set entirely by players, Anet gave them away free and you couldn’t sell them to NPC merchants.

And at the time they had absolutely no practical purpose – that didn’t come until EOTN was launch a few years later (and even then many people didn’t bother with minis until the calculator came out because it was assumed rewards would match what you put in – that you’d get armor for filling up the armor monument, weapons for weapons etc. so adding minis would only get you more “useless” minis.)

People only started giving them away when they got to be so common that supply far exceeded demand and you couldn’t sell them if you tried. And that ended as soon as the calculator came out and increased demand again. Some of the rarer and more popular minis like the panda and Visu are among the most expensive items in game (I’ve heard 500 ambraces for Visu) and those prices are set entirely by players.

I don’t agree with some of Anet’s approach to minis in GW2 (mainly the festival golem, airship, snowman and festive quaggan – cash shop RNG and account bound is too much risk for too little reward to be worth trying) but I think it’s massively inaccurate to pretend that what they’re preventing by making them account bound is helpful and generous players giving away their treasured minis to unfortunate friends. If they weren’t account bound they’d be on the TP competing with legendaries for the top of the price list.

This, basically. I got a mini polar bear and from that was able to pay for 3 45+/50 HoM (myself, my brother, and my girlfriend) as well as all of the consumable titles, elite armor sets, weapons that I’d never use, and literally everything else with money leftover to spare.

I agree that having crap be RNG and account-bound is dumb and I hope to never see that again because I’m without a Snowman mini because RNG hates me. But hey at least I have 3 extra Christmas light golems that I could have given to friends/guildies that needed them (if they weren’t account-bound that is).

Will give these a try in a sec. Running the new dungeon. I just got my new computer all up and running so sorry I’ve been absent from my own "I need help!’ thread.

don’t expect me to take a single word you posted seriously.

Sounds good. I’ll continue to disregard everything you say as well. Thanks for posting.

Cool. Like I said, nitpick all you want and play your little game while avoiding my valid points because I chose a poor word to describe the situation.

LOL I’m not nitpicking. I think posts like yours are fun. Everyone should learn to laugh at themselves once in a while, and when I see someone who can’t do that, I laugh at him because he can’t. You’re welcome.

I am more than able to laugh at myself when I’ve said something kitten But using a word that then becomes fuel for people that don’t have any other basis to discuss their views with, it gets a bit old.

In this case I used the word droves to describe how many people I know / have known who have left this game without any intent on returning. Does that mean they will never load the game back up? Who knows. Most of my friends used to “quit WoW” and come back within 3 months. But when I quit the game a few years ago I said I was going to quit and haven’t played it since.

It’s obviously a different scenario but I think you can -hopefully- see what I mean.

I think it’s great that this game allows you to convert in-game currency into the RMT currency. I’m not saying the system as a whole is flawed, I’m saying that RNG and lottery boxes are wrong.

I’m perfectly fine with them adding crap to the gem store so long as it’s able to be purchased by itself. Look at the threads where people are complaining about the Fused Weapon skins being from BLC. I bet you find more of those than people going “I love buying gems and hoping to get something for my ca$h!”

They put in directly purchasable skins during the Wintersday event and while I was playing other games during that time, I hear they were not very popular.

They put stuff in RNG boxes during the Halloween event and in the last couple of months and sold so many keys that Anet could buy a mountain of kittens.

A business does not exist to follow the whims of a single individual. When a million or so people say in very distinct ways “this is what we want!” then the business had better give it to them. People WANT the lottery boxes. People want them here, they want them in SWTOR, they want them in other games.

Anet knows they want them because they know exactly how many keys they’ve sold over a certain period if time, and how much that goes up when there’s a pink backpack or fiery sword to look for.

Within the last 24 hours Anet has also put several skins into the gem store for direct purchase. If everyone hates the RNG boxes, as people keep claiming, then they will abandon the search for fused weapon tickets and buy these skins in order to send a clear message to Anet that they want to buy the skins directly and are extremely upset that they are being forced to play RNG instead.

You know, like they did with the weapon skins during Wintersday.

Tell that to the threads of dozens of people on here saying they spend 300-400$ on gems per month and get kittenon by the RNG boxes demanding their money back.

Why... Just why?

I do have evidence. Around 50 people I know, family and friends, have quit and gone to other games. And I’m not the only one who knows so many people are leaving the game. And yeah people may come back for events but I was in Vent tonight with people who once they did the dungeon said “Welp, seeya when the new update comes around.”

I’m pretty sure 50 people is only about 1/3 of a drove.

Every time I kill a zone boss, I see at least half a drove of toons there, so my experience directly contradicts your experience.

Cool. Like I said, nitpick all you want and play your little game while avoiding my valid points because I chose a poor word to describe the situation.

I agree with you OP but guess what.. Anet just wants to line there pockets with as much money as they can. I did over 150 BL chests not one skin. That is when i said F this no more money to anet ever. Myabe if NCSoft gets away from them they will come back into the light. ATM Anet is moving to the dark side. Also watch how they will say something about how they have to make money somehow.. BUT have you noticed everything that is new has been put into the gem market lately…. o except fused gaunts.. OPS other than that the new skins/fused weps/backpacks everything is on the stupid gem store. IT is as if this game was Korean based or some crap..

The new guild skins and the new SAB skins weren’t in the market. And skins were ALWAYS fair game for the marketplace, because they’re just skins. They don’t make you more powerful. They don’t destroy the balance of the game.

Have you seen the threads that have asked for more choice of weapon skins in the gem store? What those people don’t count?

People are asking for stuff, Anet is delivering stuff and some people still complain.

And if you really want, you can go farm gold and get the stuff in the gem store with gold, something you can’t do in most games.

I think it’s great that this game allows you to convert in-game currency into the RMT currency. I’m not saying the system as a whole is flawed, I’m saying that RNG and lottery boxes are wrong.
